Full textThe purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between sleep quality and student development in a sample of 103 university students from the second semester onwards, in a private university in Lima. Beck Depression Index 2 (BDI-II) was used to exclude participants with scores corresponding to severe depression. Sleep quality was measured with the Pittsburgh Quality Sleep Index (PSQI); student development with QVA-r (Academic Experiences Questionnaire reduced version). Results showed that sleep quality is significantly correlated to student development in four dimensions: personal, interpersonal, study and institutional. In addition, 51.5% of students were poor sleepers. Also, mean comparison showed that students that migrated to Lima to start their studies were less adjusted in personal dimension than the ones that did not migrate. Moreover, sciences students were less adjusted in study dimension than their counterpart. There were also correlations between study and self-reported academic performance and previous semester average grade. Results shown that sleep quality is undermined in university students and is also correlated with most of student development dimensions.

Full textThis research aims to find the existing correlation between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Spirituality in university students of the city of Ayacucho. We opted for a quantitative method, of correlational type transactional design. To this end, we had a sample of 195 university students from two private Ayacucho universities, of which 41% are male and 59% are female, with an age range between 18 and 38 years (m = 20.43). The Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24 Questionnaire was applied, Scale of emotional intelligence, and the Spirituality Questionnaire; both adapted to the Peruvian population. We analyzed the correlations of the dimensions of both; obtaining positive correlations between all dimensions of IE with the dimensions of Spirituality; so it is concluded that both constructs are correlated. Likewise, the analyzes carried out show that there are significant differences in the explicit assessment of spirituality according to sex; specifically women score more in this regard. It can also be highlighted that the self-awareness dimension of the Spirituality questionnaire presents the strongest correlations with the Emotional Intelligence dimensions.

Full textCurrently university students should develop various academic activities that carry a great emotional effort, whereupon they need to regulate emotions to look after their well-being. The present research has as main objective to examine the relationship between the strategies of Emotional Regulation and the psychological well-being (global and its 6 dimensions) in university students. In addition, specifically to know the level of psychological well-being and what regulatory strategies predominantly use students (cognitive reevaluation and/or suppression). Finally, examine whether there is gender difference in the main variables. The sample consisted of 101 students, between 16 and 25 years old; two instruments were used: Emotional Self-Regulation Questionnaire (ERQP) and Ryff’s scale of Psychological Wellbeing; both instruments are adapted to the Peruvian context. Among the results, significant correlations between emotional control and psychological well-being were obtained. Also, significant correlations between the types of emotional regulation and Ryff’s subscales of Psychological Well-being were obtained; gender differences were found in the subscale of Autonomy. Students develop the same abilities in regulating emotions and well experienced.

Full textThe present research project, on the implementation of study rooms for university students, seeks to determine the viability in its realization through a market research conducted to university students in Metropolitan Lima. In this investigation it was possible to determine that there is a need for students to find an available space in order to carry out their academic activities, in addition to Student Club being accepted as a solution to the unmet need not met by the market, through the offer of modules individual and cubicles well implemented, in an ideal environment and strategic location. This opportunity to develop a new market, with nonexistent competitors, allowed to determine the location of the project in the district of Santiago de Surco. After that, a feasibility study of the operative, organizational and economic-financial part of the project was carried out, for which the work experience and the higher academic studies of the work team are used for its development. Finally, structuring the revenues, the fixed and variable costs and expenses, and the total initial investment, a positive NPV of S / 359,811.47 is determined, in the first three years of execution of the project, and an IRR of 127.30%. With this result and the feasibility study carried out of the various factors, it is concluded that there is economic-financial feasibility of the present project, since its realization is possible and profitable, and for which an initial investment of S / 172,956.57 will be required, and the contribution of S / 100,000.00 from an investor for its execution.

Full textSelf-regulation and Self-control have been defined separately and studied as concepts that have one dimension. New studies consider possible factors within each concept and propose they could both be processes that are related. Kuhl´s (2000) theoretical model of Volition clearly defines both concepts separately and delimits the scopes to which each one corresponds. This contributes to a better comprehension of these processes and the ambits to which they are associated. The present study explores the relationship between the factors of volition and the alcohol use patterns in a group of college students (N=89: 47 men, 42 women; M age= 18). The instruments used were the peruvian adaptation of the short version of the Volition Inventory (SSI-K3), the Alcohol consumption survey by Windle (EC) and the Alcohol Consumption Associated Problems Survey by Windle (PA). The results showed positive correlations for men, between self-regulation and prevalence of alcohol use in the last six months, between general stress and amount of alcohol ingested and between self-regulation and number of episodes of excessive consumption. Also, a negative relationship was found between self-control and episodes of excessive consumption for men and between self-control and behavioral problems, for the whole sample.

Alfaro, Bouroncle Mónica. "Mindfulness, flow y rendimiento académico en estudiantes universitarios." Bachelor's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2016. http://tesis.pucp.edu.pe/repositorio/handle/123456789/7467.
Full textThe aim of this study was to examine the relationship among mindfulness, flow and academic achievement in a sample of students from 17 to 31 years old (N=156), from a private university in Lima (Peru). The following scales were used: Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS, Brown & Ryan, 2003) and Flow State Scale (FSS, Jackson & Marsh, 1996). It was found that academic achievement had a direct and significant relationship with mindfulness (r=.27, p<.01; β=.29, p<.001) and with flow (r=.40, p<.01; β=.42, p<.001). Mindfulness and flow also related direct and significantly (r=.36, p<.01; β=.38, p<.001). Additionally, it was found that flow was a mediator between mindfulness and academic achievement. These results and their implications are discussed.

Full textThis research aims to investigate the Tolerance and Stress Control in a group of peruvian university students that report regular cannabis use. The characteristics of marihuana consumption were evaluated and, through the Rorschach inkblot test, user’s ability to cope with sources of tension, in contrast to a comparative group of non-users. Contrasts with the Mann Whitney U statistic revealed a higher D score in the study group, which, when linked to the elevation of less modulated affective expressions (CF + C), loses functionality. Marihuana use was associated with higher indicators of emotional distress, greater affective and interpersonal distance, and difficulty in handling complex situations, all of which was replicated in comparative analyzes within the study group. Difficulties with regard to affectivity and interpersonal relationships undermine the effectiveness of resources and point to a fragile psychological organization in which cannabis consumption functions as a way to cope with unpleasant affective states, feelings of social inadequacy and the perception of little self-agency. We discussed the importance of taking into account the subjective experience of users and the functions of consumption, while recognizing the high emotional cost of maintaining that lifestyle. These results are useful to structure prevention and intervention programs that contribute to empower the subject and provide regulatory and coping strategies to deal with sources of tension.

Fuentealba, Aguilera Claudio.
Full textThe objective of the development of this doctoral thesis was to analyze the derivative schema, in university students with prior instruction in differential calculus, through the identification and characterization of the sub-levels of development schema and their possible thematization. In order to identify and characterize the sub-levels of development, a questionnaire was provided to 103 university students. The questionnaire consisted of three tasks involving that involved the use of mathematical elements that shape the derivative concept in the of analytical and graphical representation modes. The resolution protocols of the questionnaire were discretized by means of a dichotomous scale in order to construct a vector associated with each resolution protocol. These vectors allowed the development of a Cluster Analysis whereby different development sub-levels of the derivative schema were identified. Also, the Cluster Analysis allowed to partition the data matrix into submatrices, one for each sub-level: Inter and Trans. From these submatrices the sub-levels of development of the derivative schema were characterized by Descriptive and Implicative Statistical Analysis interpreting the results of these analyzes with the framework of the APOS theory. From the identification and characterization of these sub-levels, the most advanced Trans sub-level development was selected, and five students were interviewed within it in order to characterize the possible thematization of the derivative schema. For the characterization of thematization of derivative schema, we observed the relationships that students establish when they face the treatment of extreme values, inflection points and conflictive points in successive derivatives of an order higher than two were observed. The results of this research helped to identify and characterize three sub-levels of the development derivative schema for each Inter and Trans level, some of these sub-levels have already been identified in previous research. Furthermore, the analysis of the thematization of schema identified two different manifestations that were designated as thematization as a totality and thematization as an object. Also, these two different manifestations of thematization have allowed for a genetic descomposition to be established that had been previously raised in another investigation.

Full textThe present investigation had the purpose of evaluating the level of happiness of the university students of Metropolitan Lima applying the instrument of measurement called Lima’s Happiness Scale, which was elaborated by the investigator Alarcón (2006). It should be noted that the instrument was selected considering three criterias: (a) the first because it is a tool that covers four dimensions, (b) second that is a validated tool in the Latin American context, and (c) third that has been validated in university students. The study carried out was quantitative of a descriptive nature and had a non-experimental design. The sample size was 384 students from public and private universities, of both sexes, without discrimination of career or study cycle. The results obtained in the research have shown that the level of happiness on average is medium, the dimension with the lowest level of happiness was that of Personal Achievement and that there is no significant difference between the sex, age, and type of university groups. These results allowed identifying opportunities to increase the level of happiness at a general level.

Full textThe aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between social support and sense of coherence in college students. A secondary objective was to identify the existence of significant differences in sense of coherence and social support (in terms of received social support and the degree of satisfaction with it) according to demographic variables. The participants were 185 university students, men and women, in their early years of study in a private university in Lima. Their ages ranged from 16 to 22 years (M = 17.9 years, SD = 1.16) and they belonged to two faculties, one associated with letters careers and the other one associated with science careers. The instruments used were Social Support Questionnaire for Transactions (SSQT; Suurmeijer et al., 1995), Social Support Questionnaire for Satisfaction with the Supportive Transaction (SSQS, Doeglas et al., 1996) and the Orientation of Life Questionnaire, reduced version (OLQ-13; Antonovsky, 1987). Results showed correlations between sense of coherence and social support, where a stronger relationship with social support satisfaction (r = .38; p < .01) than received social support (r = .20; p < .01) was found. Furthermore, significant differences were found in sense of coherence and their areas according to the demographic variable place of origin. Also, between sense of coherence and meaningfulness according to the residence time in Lima. Furthermore, significant differences were found in received social support and some of its areas according to the gender variable.

Full textThe goal of this research was to determine the relationship between self-concept and occupational motivations in university students from Barranca. The sample consisted of 343 students aged between 18 to 23 years (M= 20, SD = 1.21), of which 63.8% are women. The research is quantitative in nature and has a non-experimental descriptive-correlational methodological design. The instruments applied were the Form 5 Self-Concept by Ramos (2013). Among the main results, it was found that there is a statistically significant relationship between two dimensions of motivation: Development and gratification and Achievement and autonomy with the academic dimension of self-concept (rs=.21 y rs=.28). This led to conclude that a higher valuation of academic ability, there would be greater motivation to choose a career or occupation that gives the student personal satisfaction and that in turn allows him to contribute and serve his community.

This research work aims to determine how universities students address their learning and what influences their decision of what approach to study to about.
It uses the Learning Approaches paradigm which describes the way students address a learning content, considering the particular intention of the students and the relationship between them and the context in where they learn.
To this end, it used the questionnaire prepared by John Biggs called Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ). The result of this questionnaire allowed to know what approaches to learning, achievement, superficial or deep, students adopt to address the learning requirements in the classes they take.
In addition, we find that these approaches are closely related to some of the methods of teaching promoting or inhibiting them, such as learning assessments.

Full textIn educational context, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) usually associates with some learning strategies and forms of on-line or virtual instruction. In this context, the latent problem is to clarify and to analyze the way in that it influences or the technological utility is influenced by cognitive resources such as self-efficacy. The objective of this research is to identify the relationship between Computer self-efficacy and the use of ICT in activities at university. In order to do this, 148 students from a private university in Lima participated in this study, whose colleges (Education, Management and Industrial Engineering) have ICT and information analysis’ researching approaches. Statistical analysis was based on two media instruments: “Computer Self-efficacy Inventory” and “The survey on the use of technologies for academic activities”. The results demonstrate that, certainly, the correlation between self-efficacy and the use of ICT exists and is at medium rank (r=.36; p<.05) as well as, in many dimensions of the study’s concepts. Also, some aspects considered and relevant correlated to use and self-efficacy were satisfaction in the use of ICT, services and accounts, cycle and ICT resources management. It can be explained to the ICT use experiences and the developing skills in the use of these tools, which respond to the ability to use these to organize and do academic tasks.

Full textThe present study has the purpose to identify if intuitive eating and body appreciation can predict psychological well-being in a sample of 131 students between the ages of 18 and 27. In order to develop the study, the Intuitive Eating Scale (IES-2), the Body Appreciation Scale (BAS) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (SPWB) were used. Participants took the survey in groups. Three regression models were tested, the first model showed that body appreciation and intuitive eating predict psychological well-being. In the second, intuitive eating was replaced by its four areas and it was found that only one of them contributed significantly to the model. Thus, in the third one, body appreciation and "eating for physical reasons" were placed as independent variables and a significant model was obtained. Also, significant differences between men and women were found in the total score of the intuitive eating scale as well as the area “eating for physical reasons”. No differences were found for body appreciation, and significant differences were found for the area “autonomy” of psychological well-being.

Full textThis research aimed to analyze the relationship between emotional regulation (ER) and selfrated health (SRH) in college students. For this purpose, 289 students belonging to the careers of Law (36.3%), Management (34.3%) and Psychology (29.4%) of a private university in Lima were evaluated. Their ages ranged from 18 to 30 years, 67.5% were women and 32.5% men. To measure the variables, a single item of self-rated health and the Cognitive Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) were used. The results showed that most students rated their health as good, but with a slightly negative trend. SRH was related to sex and faculty, as well as the perception of academic performance, the satisfaction associated with it and the perception of motivation for studies. Regarding the ER, differences were found by sex and faculty, as well as correlations with the perception of academic performance and motivation perception for the studies. Finally, significant and direct small correlations were found between self-rated health and the strategies of Positive reappraisal and Positive refocusing, and negative correlations with Rumination, Catastrophizing and Self-blaming. The implications of the findings are discussed.

Full textThe purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between eating habits and academic stress in college students. This study evaluated 174 college students, 102 women (59%) and 72 men (41%), between 16 and 24 years old (M= 18.55; SD= 1.53). The instruments used were the Venezuelan version questionnaire “Adolescent Food Habits Checklist” (AFHC-V) (Morales, Montilva, Gómez & Cordero, 2012), which was linguistically adjusted to the Peruvian context; and the SISCO Inventory of Academic Stress (Barraza, 2007). Low relationships were found between the psychological relationships dimension and the AFHC-V (r=-.15, p<.05); as well as with the fruit and vegetable consumption factor (r=-.16, p<.05). Also, between the coping dimension and the AFHC-V (r=-.16, p<.05), as with the factor avoidance of specific energy-dense foods (r=.15, p<. 05). About the academic stress, there are differences according to sex in the stressor dimensions and psychological symptoms. Correlations were reported between the indicators of academic stress with the perception of academic performance and eating habits of college students. About the eating habits, differences were reported according to sex and faculty in the factors of consumption of low amounts of fats, avoidance of specific energy-dense foods and the AFHC-V. Associations were found between the perception of eating habits and the factor avoidance of specific energy-dense foods and the AFHC-V. Also, BMI was explored in college students, finding differences according sex. Finally, the results are discussed in relation to what the literature indicates, as well as the methodological difficulties of measuring eating habits.

Full textThe purpose of this research was to study the possible relationships between personality traits and health behaviors in a group of university students from a private university in Lima Metropolitan. The participants were 99 students of both sexes between 16 and 22 years old (M= 18.27; DE= 2.08). A secondary objective of the investigation was to describe whether relationships exist between the study variables and socio-demographic variables. The student´s personality traits were measured using the NEOFFI (Costa y McCrae, 1992) and health behaviors were evaluated using the CEVJU adaptation of Chau y Saravia (2014). In regard to the objectives of this research, the results showed that neuroticism correlates inversely and small with sleep organization (r = -. 27; p <0.01), as well as consciousness directly and small correlates with sleep organization (r = .28; p <0.01). In addition, significant differences were found between neuroticism and agreeableness in relation to sex. As well, that extraversion is inversely related to the student's age (r = -.30, p <0.01). Possible explanations of the results found are discussed, as well as their relevance, limitations of the investigation are reported and recommendations for future studies are given.

Full textThe principal aim of this study is to analyze the possible association between religiosity and spirituality, and academic stress in a sample of 78 students belonging to the faculties of Psychology, Social Sciences and Architecture from a private university in Lima. Likewise, in this research we want to identify the differences in academic stress and religiosity and spirituality according to the gender and faculty to which the participants belong. This aim will be achieved using the SISCO Academic Stress Inventory and the Systems of Beliefs Inventory (SBI – 15R). Subsequently, the corresponding analyzes were carried out, a direct and significant correlation was obtained between the frequency in which a stimulus is perceived as a stressor and the two subscales of the SBI-15R: religious beliefs and practices, on the one hand; and religious social support on the other. Afterwards, a direct and significant correlation was also obtained between the frequency in which coping strategies are used and the sub-scales of the SBI-15R: religious beliefs and practices; and religious social support. In conclusion, the students with higher level of religiosity perceive more the environment as stressful but, at the same time, use coping strategies such as religiosity in order to cope with it.

Full textThe purpose of this research was to study the relationship between healthy behaviors and psychological well-being in a group of 123 university students which are studying from the third year onwards. They filled the questionnaire about the lifestyles of young university students (CEVJU-r), the scale of psychological well-being of Carol Ryff adapted to spanish by Díaz (2006) and a sociodemographic questionnaire about themselves and personal details of their health. After that, the correlations about health behaviors and psychological well-being were analyzed. The results indicated that there were multiple correlations between the dimensions of both variables except for the eating habits area. Regarding the analysis of the sociodemographic variables and general health data, specific correlations were observed between healthy behaviors and reported alcohol consumption, sleep hours and the frequency of physical activity declared by the participants. On the other hand, comparisons were made according to sex and men were found to have better eating habits and better sleep organization than women while women reported better control over alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. And, in relation to the ailments reported in the year, the most repetitive were headache and back, neck and back tension, stress and depression. Finally, they were asked about what activities they did in their free time and the most prominent one was the use of technology. Last but not least, is necessary to remark the importance of continuing researching about university health issues in order to enhance programs aimed at increasing the welfare of students because a new dimension is now in our lives: technology, which is influencing not only our environment but also in our healthy behaviors and psychological wellbeing.
