System engineering methods are often used to design complex systems like airplanes. However, this method is also useful to propose solutions to redesign logistics systems such as warehouses and transport systems. This paper will apply system engineering in analyzing the late order problem at a pesticide company, thereby surveying stakeholders needs for warehouse re-designing. The functional analysis in the warehouse will be carried out in the concept analysis section to propose warehouse’s layout redesign alternatives that based on the demand of storage capacity and throughput. The authors also used the AHP method to select the final design layout. The detailed design section builds the operation process for the warehouse as well as the codification for commodity storage slots along with these tables forms that support for warehouse management. These solutions increase warehouse performance as well as the utilization in warehouses when applied in practice. Therefore, the system engineering method should be used in warehouse’s redesign

Introduction. This article discusses the essence of compositions. The concept of automated management system of material and information flows is described. The main components of «smart» composition are identified. Its technological and technical aspects are analyzed. The advantages of the introduction of «smart» warehouse systems in the field of warehousing logistics are investigated.Problem Statement. Every year in Ukraine more than 30 million tons of goods are sold, and if we take into account that on the way the goods undergo up to 15–20 transshipments ― this figure exceeds 300 million tons. The range of goods sold in the service sector reaches 400 thousand items, and taking into account the types and varieties ― more than 1 million. This huge mass of goods before entering the trading floor is accepted, unloaded, assembled, prepared for sale, and so on. Execution of these logistic operations, improvement of all logistic process is impossible without existence of the corresponding warehouse network. To date, warehousing can not remain in this state, it has exhausted the reserves of improving the efficiency of its work. It is necessary to solve the problem of further development of warehousing at a qualitatively new level of organization and technical equipment.Purpose.Analyze the feasibility of implementing systems of smart warehouses to improve the efficiency of the logistics system.Materials and Methods.Much attention is paid to the question of the effective functioning of warehouses by domestic and foreign scientists such as Stoke J. R., Lambert D. M., Oklander M. A., Krykavsky E. V., Nikolaychuk P. V. and others. The lack of research in the field of implementation of smart warehouses and the need to determine the impact of new factors on the logistics process in the warehouse determines the relevance of the article.Results.After analyzing the technological and technical aspects used in «smart» warehouses, their characteristics were given, the advantages and disadvantages were indicated. Active development of information systems, new communications allow to change conditions of interaction of the enterprise with consumers. The modern warehouse complex, which has advanced technologies, allows to solve many problems related to the circulation of inventory.Conclusions. Properly organized warehouse allows you to optimize the costs of the logistics system, and the processes associated with the operation of warehouses, ultimately a significant component of total costs. Therefore, the introduction of a system of «reasonable» composition is appropriate. Keywords:warehouse, smart warehouse, logistics, warehouse management system, internet of things, information service, pick-to-light system, stock.

The current problem for managers in logistic and trading companies is the task of improving the operational business performance and developing the logistics support of sales. The development of logistics sales supposes development and implementation of a set of works for the development of the existing warehouse facilities, including both a detailed description of the work performed, and the timing of their implementation. Logistics engineering of warehouse complex includes such tasks as: determining the number and the types of technological zones, calculation of the required number of loading-unloading places, development of storage structures, development and pre-sales preparation zones, development of specifications of storage types, selection of loading-unloading equipment, detailed planning of warehouse logistics system, creation of architectural-planning decisions, selection of information-processing equipment, etc. The currently used ERP and WMS systems did not allow us to solve the full list of logistics engineering problems. In this regard, the development of specialized software products, taking into account the specifics of warehouse logistics, and subsequent integration of these software with ERP and WMS systems seems to be a current task. In this paper we suggest a system of statistical analysis of logistics information, designed to meet the challenges of logistics engineering and planning. The system is based on the methods of statistical data processing. The proposed specialized software is designed to improve the efficiency of the operating business and the development of logistics support of sales. The system is based on the methods of statistical data processing, the methods of assessment and prediction of logistics performance, the methods for the determination and calculation of the data required for registration, storage and processing of metal products, as well as the methods for planning the reconstruction and development of the existing warehouses. The results of approbation of software for the logistics of designing large warehouses of metal trading companies are given.

Purpose Recent literature recognizes the role of warehouses in enhancing the overall logistics performance. Thus, lean thinking has recently found its way in supporting warehouse and distribution centre operations. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships among warehouse waste reduction practices, warehouse operational performance, distribution performance and business performance. Design/methodology/approach A two-stage study was conducted. First, a Delphi technique was adopted to develop a relevant questionnaire. Second, this questionnaire was used to measure the degree of waste reduction in the different warehouse activities and to test the developed research hypotheses. The authors test the hypotheses with a sample of Middle Eastern warehouse operators. Findings There exists a positive relationship between warehouse waste reduction level and both warehouse operational performance and distribution performance. There was no direct relationship between warehouse waste reduction level and business performance. However, results revealed that the relationship between warehouse waste reduction level and business performance was mediated by warehouse operational performance and distribution performance. Practical implications The developed instrument provides a guide for logistics managers as to understand how to reduce waste in each warehousing activity. The results also inform logistics managers of how distribution performance can be improved through lean warehousing. The resulting performance improvements in the distribution operations will ultimately be reflected in the logistics performance of downstream retailers. Originality/value The study develops an original instrument for measuring waste reduction in warehouses, and provides insights into the evolving lean warehousing research area. This is the first scholarly work to uncover the relationships among warehouse waste reduction practices, warehouse operational performance, distribution performance and business performance.

This paper presents a structural microeconomic model of the choice of warehouse location in urban logistics. The model is theoretical and analytical. It brings the focus on operational constraints, their diversity, and their influence on costs. The location decision is modeled as a trade-off between land rents (making it costly to locate close to the center of the urban area) and transport costs (which increase non-linearly when the warehouse moves away from the city center). The influence of various parameters on the optimal warehouse location is analyzed. The following conclusions are drawn. First, increased demand contributes to the explanation of logistic sprawl: when the density of operations (pick-ups and deliveries) increases in a given area, transport is more efficient, making it less necessary for warehouses to be close to the city center. Second, urban logistics is a heterogenous sector and, depending on the operational constraints, will not react homogenously to changes in economic parameters or the implementation of public policies. Third, economies of scale are identified: some implications are discussed. Fourth, the paper briefly discusses how land-use planning regarding, in particular, warehouses, can help internalize some of the externalities of urban logistics.

In modern conditions of integration of Ukraine’s economy into the world community effective functioning of enterprises is impossible without improving the organization of logistics processes. Dynamic development of economic relations leads to a significant increase in the needs of enterprises in warehouses. Warehousing problems arise and are solved at all stages of the movement of goods and material flow. Warehouses are one of the most important elements of the logistics system, however, the domestic food industry is not carefully studied, as well as issues of optimization of warehousing, which necessitates a more detailed study of this issue. The dynamic development of various sectors of the economy causes a number of problems associated with the formation of warehousing of an individual enterprise. It is expedient for small and medium-sized enterprises to organize their own warehousing facilities, and large ones to transfer warehousing functions to logistics companies. The largest Ukrainian logistics companies offer warehouses for rent, take goods for safekeeping without the right to manage goods flows, and also perform a full range of logistics services (purchase / storage / distribution with the right to manage). In the first and second case, the application of logistics principles significantly reduces the costs of the enterprise associated with the organization of warehousing processes. However, the specialized literature does not sufficiently reflect and describe the processes of warehouse formation and functioning as an element of logistics. In the Ukrainian economic literature at present there is no consensus on the development and formation of warehousing on the basis of logistical principles. Analysis of the organization of logistics processes in the warehouse enterprises. Research of the effective functioning of the logistics process and development of solutions to improve it.

We propose a multi-agent simulation environment for logistics warehouses. Simulation is a crucial part of designing industrial systems, such as logistics warehouses. A warehouse is a multi-agent system (MAS) that consists of various autonomous subsystems with robots, material-handling equipment, and human workers. It is generally difficult to analyze the performance of a MAS thus, it is important to model a warehouse and conduct simulations to design and evaluate the possible system configurations. However, the cost of modeling warehouses and modifying the models is high because there are various components and interactions compared to conventional multi-agent simulations. We proposed a self-contained agent architecture and message architecture of a multi-agent simulation environment for logistics warehouses to reduce the simulation-model development and modification costs. We quantitatively evaluated our environment in terms of development costs by comparing such costs of our environment and a widely used multi-agent simulation environment.

Perfect order rate (POR) is one of the superior measures of the logistics processes quality. POR is at the top of the hierarchy of key performance indicators (KPI) in supply chain and is considered as difficult to define and measure. Perfect order rate is composed of sub-measures touching technical, economic, quality and safety aspects of logistics processes. POR directly defines what the organization considers to be the perfect implementation of its tasks (and thus sets goals for the organization) and, secondly, measures the degree of achievement of these goals. The paper defines the concept of perfect order rate by including new elements to classic definition, so far rarely considered in the literature: possibility of order implementation according to standard procedures in organization and safety aspects. The concept of logistics chain and the impact of its functioning on the POR value have been defined. The picking and replenishment processes were discussed in detail as the basic elements affecting the quality of logistics processes and the value of POR. Next, the issues of logistic processes safety in warehouse facilities were discussed. The large intensity of warehouse operations along with their mechanization and automation very often leads to many hazards in warehouses and logistics chain. These hazard are usually related with warehouse workers safety. However, they can also lead to various delays or downtime in the material flows, as well as damage or reducing the quality of materials. So it was assumed that safety aspects can influencing the value of POR in the logistics chain. Due to conducted research and compiled reports indicate that many accidents in the warehouse are associated with the forklifts use as equipment for material handling. Therefore, in paper main attention was paid to hazards related with forklifts, warehouse safety speed, etc.

The paper presents issues related to design and organization of the warehouse process. Draws attention to problems of modelling logistics facilities and processes occurring in them. Paper also points out the essence of correct operation of warehouses and associated with this risks for supply chain. Warehouse processes have been properly defined and divided into smaller components, like: phases of process, activities, sets of procedures, procedures or working movements. Paper presents various possible configurations of warehouse processes, which were named as warehouse strategies. Warehouse process strategy is a part of warehousing. It determines the sequence of warehouse operations. These operations are related to internal transport, cargo form transformation and cargo buffering. In paper it is noted that the warehouse strategy depends on the several technical and organizational factors and is associated with a certain probability. This probability can be estimated based on data analysis concerning logistics processes in the specified warehouse facility. As shown in case study, appropriate selection of warehouse strategies determines possibility of fulfilling customer order in time and costs that are acceptable for him.

DETERMINATION OF DOLOG’S IDEAL WAREHOUSE BASED ON MINIMUM LOGISTICS COSTERIANA ASTUTYFaculty of Business and Management, Widyatama UniversityJalan Cikutra 204 A, Bandung, Jawa Barat 40125E-mail: eriana.astuty@widyatama.ac.idABSTRAKSebagian besar penduduk Indonesia mengkonsumsi beras sebagai makanan utama sehingga memerlukan jumlah beras yang mencukupi kebutuhan dalam waktu yang tak terbatas. Kata kunci: dolog, gudang beras, metoda cluster, ongkos logistikABSTRACTMost of indonesian societies consume rice as staple food and therefore need the amount of rice that meet the demand within the infinite time. Food warehouse is needed in order to maintain supplies. Rice warehouse should be located in the strategic location so that it is easy to reach and to avoid the stagnation of supply. In addition, that can also be useful for financing streamline because it can minimize the logistics costs. Dolog as a unit of the agency Bulog is responsible to maintain the stability and availability of basic foodstuffs in the region of Indonesia and to participate in the procurement and supply of basic foodstuffs especially rice. To carry out its duties, Dolog also must have an ideal rice warehouse which its capacity should meet the demand of the rice according to the market supplied. The result of cluster method used in this research suggests that there are three ideal warehouse locations to supply main markets in Bandung. If the three ideal warehouse locations are compared with the existing warehouse, proposed warehouse location donates saving about IDR 45,032,203 per year or approximately IDR 125,000 per day. So there are two solutions can be taken by Dolog that the first is open new warehouses and the second is using the old warehouse and adding the shortage storage capacity by opening additional warehouse at ± 6,000 tons.Key words: dolog, rice warehouse, cluster method, logistics cost

Warehouse performance measurement is needed to improve performance of logistics system. In order to improve warehouse performance, it is necessary to identify Key Performance Indicator (KPI). Different warehouses have different KPI, therefore this research aims to identify the most important KPI of warehouse so that warehouse manager can determine corrective actions in their warehouse efficiently and effectively. In this research, 25 KPI of warehouse are identified in five warehouse activities based on Frazelle model. The most important KPI are then determined in each warehouse activity using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Warehouse performance are measured and final score is determined using SNORM. Improvement steps are proposed base on benchmarking among warehouses. Warehouse performance measurement is conducted in 5 construction’s material warehouses located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. From this study, it is found that most important KPI for receiving is productivity (receive per man-hour), KPI for put away is cycle time (put away cycle time), KPI for storage is utilization (% location and cube occupied), KPI for order picking is cycle time (order picking cycle time) and KPI for shipping is productivity (order prepared for shipment per man-hour). Improving warehouse performance could be done by comparing warehouse performance with the best performance among peer group.

The formation of the digital economy and the information society requires a revision of traditional concepts of business management. The growth of the assortment and nomenclature of material values, a complication of their accounting reflection in the enterprises of logistics business necessitates the implementation of a new logistics system of chaotic storage. The article substantiates the expediency of the evolutionary replacement of the technology of automated identification of material values (bar code for radio frequency) in the conditions of organization of warehousing on the principles of chaotic storage, which requires improvement of accounting at modern enterprises. The purpose of the scientific research is to develop organizational and methodological provisions for the accounting of material values at the warehouses of enterprises in the conditions of implementation of a logistic system of chaotic storage and the use of radio frequency identification technology to optimize the automated warehouse management. The experience of the chaotic storage of material values by Amazon Corporation and the systematization of literature sources for the introduction of a new concept of logistics flow management showed the lack of scientifically reasoned proposals and practical developments in the automation of accounting of storage and movement of material values. The peculiarities of the organization of accounting and management of the movement of material values in the logistic system of chaotic storage are investigated in the article. The documentation procedure and documenting the logistical operations of the movement of material values using radio frequency identification technology have been developed. The technique of inventory control over the storage of inventory objects in the conditions of automation of warehouse management has been improved. The choice of the method of the identified estimation of receipt and disposal of material values for optimization of the warehouse stocks of the enterprises in the logistic system of chaotic storage is substantiated. The practical significance of the conducted research lies in the possibility of implementing a logistic system of chaotic storage with the use of technology of radio frequency identification of material values at enterprises, which will provide: automated without the direct participation of accounting personnel collecting accounting data on the movement and storage of material values; permanent automated inventory of objects to control their storage; optimization of management of logistic processes based on the use of robots-conveyors for the automated movement of inventory from warehouse positions to destinations; electronic documentation and documentation procedure in the warehouse accounting system of enterprises; reducing inventory levels with lost consumer value (shelf life) or low market demand, etc. The results of the study may be useful for enterprises that are focused on innovative management techniques, regardless of ownership, size of the business, or industry. Based on cross-correlation algorithm, we analyze the correlation property of warehouse-out quantity of different warehouses, respectively, and different products of each warehouse. Our study identifies that significant cross-correlation relationship for warehouse-out quantity exists among different warehouses and different products of a warehouse. Further, we take multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis for warehouse-out quantity among different warehouses and different products of a warehouse. The results show that for the warehouse-out behaviors of total amount, different warehouses and different products of a warehouse significantly follow multifractal property. Specifically for each warehouse, the coupling relationships of rebar and wire rod reveal long-term memory characteristics, no matter for large fluctuation or small one. The cross-correlation effect on long-range memory property among warehouses probably has less to do with product types, and the long-term memory of YZ warehouse is greater than others especially in total amount and wire rod product. Finally, we shuffle and surrogate data to explore the source of multifractal cross-correlation property in logistics system. Taking the total amount of warehouse-out quantity as example, we confirm that the fat-tail distribution of warehouse-out quantity sequences is the main factor for multifractal cross-correlation. Through comparing the performance of the multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MF-DCCA), centered multifractal detrending moving average cross-correlation analysis (MF-X-DMA) algorithms, the forward and backward MF-X-DMA algorithms, we find that the forward and backward MF-X-DMA algorithms exhibit a better performance than the other ones.

A brief overview of the development of warehouses, logistics and distribution centers in Germany and other foreign countries at the present stage is presented. Some general development trends associated with the implementation of the concept of the fourth industrial revolution are identified. The implementation of these requirements provides for deep digitalization and intellectualization of production processes, control systems and applied technologies. A key role in the new conditions belongs to the design of logistics facilities using modern modeling and virtual reality capabilities. The analysis of the latest projects of warehouses with varying degrees of automation up to automatic warehouses was carried out. Examples of projects are given and the features of the adopted technical solutions are noted. Recently, a number of new technologies and systems have been developed and implemented in warehouse logistics. Of particular interest are new technologies for picking orders in warehouses, because The requirements for this technology have changed significantly due to the intensive development of online electronic commerce. The number of orders is constantly growing, and the requirements for the duration of these operations are dictated downward. Robotization has recently taken an important place. Working in a pandemic with the requirements for the maximum possible reduction in the number of personnel has further increased the relevance and importance of using robots, in particular, collaborative ones, i.e. working together with the person. Considerable attention is paid to the use in industrial logistics of floor transport with vehicles that work without drivers.

Abstract Bulog is a state-owned public company engaged in food logistics. There are about 18 Bulog warehouses in East Java Province with an uneven distribution. Because the scope of Bulog’s business includes logistics or warehousing, surveys and pest eradication, provision of plastic bags, transportation business, food commodity trading and retail business, there must be good coordination between regional sub-divisions and warehouse complexes. In this study, the minimum regional sub-division recommendations in the East Java region were determined using the theory of connected domination number in graphs. The location of the warehouse complex is described as the vertex and adjacent warehouse complexes are connected by edges. In this research, we also determine the connected domination number of unicyclic graph and vertex amalgamation operations for several classes of graphs.

Problem definition: We bound the value of collaboration in a decentralized multisupplier multiretailer setting, where several suppliers ship to several retailers through a shared warehouse, and outbound trucks from the warehouse contain the products of multiple suppliers. Academic/practical relevance: In an emerging trend in the grocery industry, multiple suppliers and retailers share a warehouse to facilitate horizontal collaboration, lower transportation costs, and increase delivery frequencies. Thus far, these so-called mixing and consolidation centers are operated in a decentralized manner, with little effort to coordinate shipments from multiple suppliers with shipments to multiple retailers. Facilitating collaboration in this setting would be challenging (both technically and in terms of the level of trust that would be necessary), so it is useful to understand the potential gains of collaboration. Methodology: We extend the classic one-warehouse multiretailer analysis to incorporate multiple suppliers and per-truck outbound transportation cost from the warehouse and develop a cost lower bound on centralized operation as benchmark. We then analyze decentralized versions of the system, in which each retailer and each supplier maximizes his or her own utility in a variety of settings, and we analytically bound the ratio of the cost of decentralized to centralized operation to bound the loss resulting from decentralization. Results: We find analytical bounds on the performance of several decentralized policies. The best, a decentralized zero-inventory ordering policy, has a cost ratio when compared with a lower bound on the centralized policy of no more than 3/2. In computational studies, we find that costs of decentralized policies are even closer to those of centralized policies. Managerial implications: Easy-to-implement decentralized policies are efficient and effective in this setting, suggesting that centralization (and thus a potentially complex and expensive coordination effort) is unlikely to result in significant benefits.

This article examines the current state of warehouse logistics, which is characterized by the use of automated technologies and software for work performed in the warehouse to reduce logistics costs. Automation of all types of warehouses increases the cost of warehouse operations by automating small, repetitive tasks, allowing workers to focus on more complex tasks. The development of information technologies and the use of modern technology expand the possibilities of improving the efficiency of the warehouse. The warehouse robotics industry includes several types of warehouse robots that serve different purposes and functions, such as filling orders and moving inventory in a warehouse, etc. One of the types of warehouse robotics that we consider in this article are vehicles with automatic control technology AGV (Automatic guided vehicle). The AGV technology is based on an automatic trolley, an electric tool that transports goods from place to place. Since the trolley is controlled automatically, maintenance of the trolley does not require a separate operator-the trolleys move along a given trajectory in isolated conditions without the need for human labor. In addition to the need to maintain the required product quality, the use of AGV has the following advantages: reducing the number of personnel, especially high-quality and responsible transport operators, ensuring occupational safety, minimizing damage caused by product damage, since all movements of vehicles with automatic control can be precisely programmed.

Production lines form the backbone of a manufacturing plant while the warehouse is the heart that pumps the supplies through logistics veins. However, logistics issues among manufacturing industries are well known for causing downstream production problems. Non-transparent warehouse operation and inevitable human error in logistics activities seriously jeopardise the entire downstream manufacturing processes. Existing warehouse management solutions require many sensors spanning the warehouse for tracking logistics activities which are cost-ineffective and inflexible. One aspect of intelligent WMS that has not been explored is the integration of computer vision modeling with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a more flexible, transparent, and autonomous warehouse management system (WMS). This study aims to devise a Smart and Flexible WMS (SFlex-WMS) to improve logistics operations in terms of operation costs, process time, and space utilisation. The highlight of the proposed framework is the two major work packages (WP) which focus on flexible, autonomous sensing mechanisms for inventory, logistics tracking, and space mapping, as well as reconstructing the warehouse environment model that reflects all physical changes in the warehouse. SFlex-WMS intends to realize real-time transparent monitoring of warehouse operations. By exploiting the outputs from both WPs, SFlex-WMS is expected to achieve more effective and flexible warehouse operations.

AbstractThe introduction of the paper highlights best practice in the area of deploying autonomous trucks in warehouses and the automotive industry, including the current technical possibilities of selected autonomous trucks. The next chapter presents the selected outputs of the scientific project “Center of Excellence for Intelligent Transport Systems” focused on a proposal of the methodology for calculating the necessary number of autonomous trucks and trolleys deployed in logistics warehouses. The methodology is based on the requirement that autonomous trucks do not have downtime. This represents a model solution with possible application in warehouse logistics but also in the automotive industry. The follow-up chapter proposes a methodological procedure to evaluate the efficiency of introducing autonomous trucks to pull trolleys in a logistics warehouse compared to conventional trucks operated by trained personnel. Autonomous trucks can theoretically be operated 365 days and 24 hours depending on the technology of their operation, battery charging, etc. On the other hand, there is generally a shortage of logistics personnel in the European Union as well as reliability and performance have been declining in recent years. The conclusion of the paper includes a discussion of the research results obtained and possibilities for future research.

This article investigated the comprehensive risk management model practised at SWIFT Integrated Logistics chemical storage operations. The objective is to systematically illustrate the risk factors by identifying risks and mitigating them from the flow of the operation. By reducing or containing the risk factors, we are able to provide a conducive, safe, secure working environment with initiatives toward zero-incident reporting cases. A qualitative research method was applied in this study. Respondents selected for this study were at the managerial level at SWIFT Integrated Logistics with experience working in warehouse operations for more than five years. SWIFT Integrated Logistics management wanted to diversify its warehouse customer's portfolio and accepted new business opportunities in chemicals warehouse storage. The move contributed greatly to the business strategy and finance, but they faced serious risk management issues, which resulted in six (6) incidents and raised the level of anxiety and concern among the warehouse team on health & safety issues. Future studies may look into additional strategies to implement a better warehouse risk management model or plan for a chemical warehouse. This study suggested that regular or continuous training should be provided to the staff. Basic first aid kit training is an example of the mandatory training that should be part of the job standard operating procedure. This paper contributes to the limited existing study on chemical warehouse operations. Experience and measures taken by SWIFT management may provide some ideas to improve the management of chemical warehouse for other warehouse operators. Although chemical warehouse operation safety is important, there is scarce academic research that explores this issue.

Nowadays, logistics has become an important part in the supply chain due to the effects of globalization. A warehouse is a large building where goods are stored, and where they may be shipped, catalogued, or received. When considering the level of effort involved in warehouse operations, the greatest expenditure of effort is in the picking process. In warehouse, the major goal is to improve the efficiency, accurancy and safety of warehouse operations. Supply chain managers focus to gain maximum efficiency for minimum cost. Therefore, Warehouse Management Systemd (WMS) first appeared on the market in the 1980s and have been developed to handle warehouse resources and track and monitor warehouse real-time operations. There are many application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) that can be found embedded in items especially in supply chain management. Verification is one of the crucial issues of RFID technology. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of a location using the RFID as an active technology in warehouse management field. In this content, our objective is to combine multi-agent systems and optimization algorithms in order to localize the operator by integrating the indoor positioning system and then optimize operator roote during the picking mission. In this paper, we present an Optimizer Based Agent Communication of Operator Work plan in Warehouse (OBACO2W). Order pickers, using the pick by voice technique, receive and execute the orders sent by the WMS. The purpose of logistics is to establish efficient and satisfy customers requirement. So, we aim to enhance workers productivity by assigning to the order pickers the shortest path for the picking mission. We must first locate the picker adopting the RFID technology. Multi-agent modeling problem can be divided into skills and knowledge to autonomous entities called agents, to provide links and dialogue between these entities by means of communication and interaction. In a multi-agent system, the change of status of certain objects in the environment of change agents can affect their behavior and decisions. Thus, to optimize their choices and to guide their taken decisions, these agents can be equipped with optimization approaches suited to their skills and knowledge. Hence the alliance between the multi-agent systems and optimization methods; these two approaches are perfectly complementary.

Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) experiments were conducted with multiple mobile robots in an automated warehouse simulation environment, and it was confirmed that the proposed reward model method makes learning start earlier even there is a sparse reward problem and learning progress was maintained stably. We expect this study to help us understand the actual operation of mobile robots in an automated warehouse further.

The warehouse process, as one of many logistics processes, currently holds an irreplaceable position in logistics systems in companies and in the supply chain. The proper function of warehouse operations depends on, among other things, the type of the used technology and their utilization. The research in this article is focused on the design of a warehouse system. The selection of a suitable warehouse system is a current research topic as the warehouse system has an impact on warehouse capacity and utilization and on the speed of storage activities. The paper presents warehouse system design methodology that was designed applying the logistics principle-systematic (system) approach. The starting point for designing a warehouse system represents of the process of design logistics systems. The design process consists of several phases: project identification, design process paradigm selection, system analysis, synthesis, and project evaluation. This article’s contribution is the proposed methodology and design of the warehouse system for the specified conditions. The methodology was implemented for the design of a warehouse system in a cold box, which is a part of a distribution warehouse. The technology of pallet racking was chosen in the warehouse to store pallets. Pallets will be stored and removed by forklifts. For the specified conditions, the warehouse system was designed for two alternatives of racking assemblies, which are served by forklifts. Alternative 1—Standard pallet rack with wide aisles and Alternative 2—Pallet dynamic flow rack. The proposed systems were compared on the basis of selected indicators: Capacity—the number of pallet places in the system, Percentage ratio of storage area from the box area, Percentage ratio of handling aisles from the box area, Access to individual pallets by forklift, Investment costs for 1 pallet space in EUR. Based on the multicriteria evaluation, the Alternative 2 was chosen as the acceptable design of the warehouse system with storage capacity 720 pallet units. The system needs only two handling aisles. Loading and unloading processes are separate from each other, which means that there are no collisions with forklifts. The pallets with the goods are operated on the principle of FIFO (first in, first out), which will facilitate the control of the shelf life of batches or series of products. The methodology is a suitable tool for decision-making in selecting and designing a warehouse system.

Using SLP method obtains the comprehensive correlation through the analysis of the logistics relationship and non-logistics relationship between the various operating units of the warehouse. According to the current situation of the comprehensive related relationship and the warehouse problem, designers can formulate a feasible plan. However, owing to the SLP method is insufficient in solving the problem of facility layout, that is, it is easy to be influenced by the subjective factors of the designer, especially in analyzing the non-logistic relationship. In this paper, the non-logistics relationship determination process is quantified, and ultimately improved scheme.

The subject of the study is the theoretical and methodological aspects of the development strategy of warehouse logistics as a component of transport and logistics systems in the focus of economic transformation. Methodology. General scientific methods used in the study, in particular: theoretical generalization; methods of positive and normative analysis, statistical analysis. The purpose of the work is to substantiate the strategy of development of warehouse logistics as a component of transport and logistics systems in the focus of economic transformation. Results. The article substantiates the development strategy of warehouse logistics as a component of transport and logistics systems in the focus of economic transformation. The main components of the development strategy of logistics management at the macro-, meso- and micro-levels are revealed. The main directions of development of transport and logistics system of Ukraine in the context of European integration. It is emphasized that the multiplier effect of investment in transport and logistics does not work by itself, but requires effective management of the regional economy, a high level of business activity in the leading sectors of the regional economy and successful spatial planning. The identified multiplier indicators and their trends in the regions show that investment in the development of transport and, in particular, infrastructure is one of the important incentives for regional economic development. At the same time, the investment acceleration indicators in the dynamics show a downward trend in all regions, which indicates the insufficient level of funding for transport and logistics support against the background of the gradual growth of the regional economy. The article substantiates a system model for assessing the level of development of the transport and logistics system in the region. The structural model of the development strategy of regional warehousing logistics has been proposed. To clarify the nature, main tasks and role in the development of transport and logistics structures in the region, a structural model of the development strategy of warehouse logistics, which systematizes: the conditions necessary to build a warehouse infrastructure and organize logistics activities in the region; identified alternatives for the necessary scale, technology placement and communications of warehouse systems, as well as the types and forms of organizational links between market participants, which are directly or indirectly related to this activity.

Once the logistics revolution’s paradigmatic retail model, big box retail’s declining growth over the last 15 years has left retailers searching for new outlets of expansion. One solution to this problem has been to construct e-commerce markets in order sell delivery as much as the goods delivered. Similar to Walmart’s ascendance, warehousing is again at the vanguard of these new retail models. Significantly, e-commerce’s demands on warehousing dramatically increase the amount of labor warehouses employ and the quality requirements of warehouse work. This article investigates how warehouse labor is being reproduced and restructured in order to construct e-commerce markets. My research indicates an emerging management strategy to meet these demands by scaling back their reliance on labor market intermediaries. I demonstrate this trend through the examples of two different warehouses where management stopped using temp agencies in one case and reduced their reliance on agencies and third parties in a second case. While these changes moved workers closer to “standard” forms of employment, their disposability was reproduced through discourses of “unskilled” labor and logistical practices of retention. These insights develop our understanding of flexible labor’s production in logistics and challenge broader understandings of labor market intermediaries’ significance.

Abstract Supply chain executives are faced with the challenge of reducing labor costs. Travel time or picking efficiency can easily account for 50% or more of order picking time. If we omit human factor and the technical equipment of the warehouses, picking efficiency is mostly affected by two factors: correct combining orders into a single travel instance and picking orders in batch is the first factor; the second one is a goods placement – the more effective the goods are located, the shorter will be the picking distance for each order or batch of orders. It means that individual orders will be picked faster. Usually to determine the correct location for the goods 3PL’s are using ABC analysis that includes indicators like count of orders, goods turnover, picking rate, weight etc. There are also more complicated indicators like goods adjacency. Such indicators are harder to take into account using ABC analysis, as it requires sophisticated analysis of customer orders. In recent publication goods placing by results of ABC analysis was compared to the genetic algorithm approach. It was showed that genetic algorithm much more effective for goods placing. The goal of this paper is to improve developed genetic algorithm and include in calculations factors of the labor costs and warehouse topology. These factors will make algorithm usable in real warehouses and WMS (warehouse management system) information systems.
