The aim of this study was to examine how students experience the transition from the classroom to the workplace. This research explored what factors students found problematic and which factors was helpful during the transition. This research was qualitative and this study focused on the experiences of the participants and all data was collected from their perception of work practice. I used Activity Theory as a theoretical framework to compile and organize relevant data. Data was gathered using video recordings, hand written journal entries and individual interviews. The research was conducted in an on-campus design studio that is situated within the Design Faculty at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The reason for choosing Design Logic as a site is the following; the studio sits neatly between the classroom and the workplace, although the studio is in a protected environment, most of the elements that are present in a real world setup is reflected within Design Logic i.e. the stresses of satisfying demanding clients, working with budgets, liaising with suppliers and the ever present looming deadlines all form part of the daily make-up of Design Logic. Although the starting point of the study was to search for the problem areas of the student’s transition into the work place, the analyzed data revealed the dissimilarities between the two systems and how the participants overcame the difference i.e. shifting identities and rules and norms to develop new skills suited for the work place. The workspace opened a Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and highlighted the value and importance of work practice in preparation of graduates for industry.

The main purpose of the study was to design, develop, deliver and evaluate a new distance web design course for the needs of students in a vocational higher education institution. Proactive action research was used as a framework during the research process. This research focused on the analysis of the existing face-to-face course to mitigate its problems in the new design. Then, accomplishments and insufficiencies of the new design in the new context were investigated. For this study, data were collected in two different semesters, in a vocational higher education institution. In the first semester, an existing course was investigated to see the problems and the needs. The results revealed that there were problems associated with &ldquo

In the second semester, data were collected to understand what the accomplishments of the new course, and what aspects of the new course needed to be modified. To triangulate qualitative findings, two questionnaire were conducted to see the students&rsquo
attitude towards web-based instruction and students&rsquo
perceptions about learning environment. With the findings of these data collection procedures, the accomplishments of the new design can be categorized in five main headings. These are &ldquo

Workplace training design has evolved from a task-based systems framework managed by the designer, to a collaborative process of problem-solving that includes stakeholders across the enterprise. Collaborative design models address persistent problems, such as cost efficiency, requirements that change late in development, and aggressive timetables, but perceptions of training effectiveness continue to be pessimistic. Given the substantial role of employees in making training effective, by transferring what they learn to their day-to-day responsibilities, this study proposed an emergent design model in which designers collaborate with employees as partners in solving training design problems. Previous efforts to include employees in training design have faltered, because of time and resource requirements which limit participation or greatly expand timelines. This study investigated the potential of broad employee participation, through the widely-used medium of organizational surveys, in which employees are invited to suggest ways to improve their work environment. The study applied a three-phase, mixed methods approach, to investigate whether survey text responses contain viable input into training design, and to explore the nature of that input in terms of major themes about workplace training, and detailed input reflecting employees' experience of online training. Nearly 90,000 text responses were accepted into the study, from industries that include pharmaceuticals, retail, manufacturing, telecommunications and financial services. Analysis exposed the inherent conflict between the designer's focus on training delivery, and the employees' focus on transferring what they learn to their jobs; and a widespread organizational conflict between leadership compensation tied to short-term financial metrics, and long-term strategies that drive infrastructure programs such as workplace training. Responses across all industry sectors in the study reported limited management support for training, which is nonetheless essential to employees' job performance. Responses described online training that makes only minimal use of the basic functions of computer technology. The study validates earlier research questioning workplace training effectiveness, with evidence suggesting that training programs are constrained by organizational challenges that cannot be solved by designers alone. The study suggests that organizations can involve their employees in addressing the conflicts that limit training effectiveness, through design partnership using survey responses.

One of the advantages of Augmented Reality (AR) in education is that AR increases student motivation. However, there is a lack of research on guidelines to inform the design and development of motivational AR learning experiences. In this doctoral thesis, we introduce a framework to inform the design and development of motivational AR learning experiences in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) level of education. The research process started with two exploratory studies that were conducted in the VET programme of car’s maintenance in which the Paint-cAR application was co-created with teachers. Then, a study on predictors of student motivation was conducted and framework was subsequently defined. The framework was validated in the VET programme of Laboratory Operations in the field of chemistry and we found that the learning experience positively impact the four dimensions of the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction) model of motivation
Una de las ventajas de la Realidad Aumentada (RA) en educación, es que la RA incrementa la motivación. Sin embargo, existen pocos estudios sobre lineamientos para orientar el diseño y desarrollo de experiencias de RA motivadoras. En esta tesis doctoral, se introduce un framework para orientar el diseño y desarrollo de experiencias de aprendizaje con RA motivadoras en el nivel educativo de formación profesional (FP). El proceso de investigación comenzó con dos estudios exploratorios que fueron desarrollados en el programa de FP en carrocería en el cual la aplicación Paint-cAR fue co-creada con profesores. Posteriormente, un estudio sobre predictores de la motivación fue desarrollado y el framework fue posteriormente definido. El framework fue validado en el programa de FP en Operaciones de Laboratorio en el área de química y concluimos que la experiencia de aprendizaje impactó positivamente las 4 dimensiones del modelo de motivación ARCS (Atención, Relevancia, Confianza y Satisfacción)

The aim of this thesis has been to describe and analyse the students'views on the effects of constructivistic indicators in a learning environment of vocational training. The indicators concerned here were activity, authenticity, holism, context and multiple perspectives. The thesis focuses futher on the differences between traditional and constructivistic vocational training in its practice-of-skills aspect. The work consists of two sections, of which the first is a theoretical survey of cognitive constructivistic learning in which the views of various researchers are presented, analysed and compared. By designing a learning method with the highest possible number of constructivistic indicators, it has been possible to record students opinions of these in three different ways, by using questionnaires, interviews and video recordings. The pupils' experiences of various learning situations have then been described and analysed. Data have also been gathered using a fourth method, by recording spontaneous comments from the teachers concerned. The information has then been collated, and the results compared with the views of those researchers already presented. The results indicate that the effects of cognitive constructivistic indicators are felt as favourable by the pupils, who make it clear that it is of great value to be able to "think for oneself' as they put it, in the course of acquiring professional skills. Among other things, what the pupils consider specially valuable for the learning process is the personal activity and authenticity involved in creating usable products. No noticeably unfavourable pupil experiences of the constructivistic learning have emerged, while the spontaneous comments of the teachers express both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include increased motivation on the part of pupils as a consequence of learning through creating usable products; pupils feel that what they do is more meaningful than would be the case in traditional vocational training. They also become independent learners more quickly: the teachers feel that the pupils learn more efficiently, and that the training period for some of them could be reduced by one-third. The major disadvantage is that the teacher has to learn to play a partly new role, since the teaching material does not consist of rigidly specific written instructions. Initially a greater amount of work is demanded of the teacher until pupils have become accustomed to the mainly constructivistic learning method. The learning environment that is presented in conclusion includes among other things features of business economics, product design and innovation, as well as certain conditions for the establishment of small-scale industry. Judging from the results, these components may be considered as further reinforcing the learning effect from a cognitive-constructivistic point of view. Vocational training thus acquires a new qualitative dimension when constructivistic indicators integrate instruction with the subsequent situation of working and earning a living, instead of concentrating simply on the content of the syllabus with no relation to the situation of pupils after completion of their training.

Research indicates that secondary students who are successful in online classes share common traits. However, many secondary career technical education (CTE) students taking online courses do not demonstrate the traits identified for success. CTE students may not benefit from online classes unless they are designed with their needs in mind. The purpose of this study was to investigate current CTE student experiences with online classes at a single career center. The research questions investigated CTE experiences with online classes, positive and negative online design features, and the hybrid classroom. The theoretical framework was constructivism. The purposive sample included 12 student participants (3 participants from each of 4 CTE career clusters) and 1 paraprofessional in charge of the classroom. Data included individual and small group interviews and observations. Participants reported that the current online course design, primarily text followed by a traditional assessment, was problematic. Instructional design features that assisted CTE students included individual pacing, instant feedback on assessments, and class organization. Features that did not assist students included content issues, technology issues, and limited testing options. Hybrid environment features that assisted CTE students included having a set time and place, access to technology, and the support of a paraprofessional. Career technical education in general may benefit from this research. Effective online education may provide greater opportunities for a larger audience of learners; their improved preparation helps students contribute more to the work force and gain more in terms of career success.

Design is a creative, projective and strategic activity aimed at offering the best adaptation and interaction of the human being with himself, with others and with the world. A interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary area of knowledge that integrates both theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as concrete and abstract concepts, by means of projects, which involve processes of observation, imagination, analysis, configuration and representation, intended to develop technical and formal solutions to enable its production, commercialization and use. Design teaching means the context in which the construction of this way of thinking is build up. From this premise comes the restlessness and central issue that moves and drives this scientific research within the program of postgraduate studies in communication and semiotics: "How does a design project interact with the student's actions in their creative strategies in network strategies in the domain of education?" Therefore, the empirical object that emerges from this dynamic between the variable and the invariable of the question are the interactions and connections between the design project and the student's projective activities in their creative networked strategies. In order to develop this research, we defined the case-exploratory and ethnographic study based on the observation and analysis of two undergraduate design courses located in the city of São Paulo: design course at the University of São Paulo / USP and design course of University Senac, through observation in the classroom, recording of the creation process documents and interviews with teachers of design and other correlated subject areas. The set objectives are to understand the paradigmatic, detonating, organizing, directional and communicational aspects of creation, which activate thought and act as lines of forces, establishing unstable connections and interconnections through dialogues and interlocutions that produce interactions, influences, mutual exchanges and shared, between elements and individuals, making arise and unleash the maneuvers and articulations of thought in the process of creation
Design é uma atividade de natureza criativa, projetual e estratégica, orientada para oferecer a melhor adequação e interação do ser humano consigo, com o outro e com o mundo. Um campo de conhecimento interdisciplinar e transdisciplinar que integra tanto conhecimentos teóricos e práticos, quanto conceitos concretos e abstratos, por meio do projeto, que envolve processos de observação, imaginação, análise, configuração e representação, com o propósito de desenvolver soluções técnicas e formais, a fim de viabilizar sua produção, comercialização e uso. O ensino do design, por sua vez, é o contexto onde se realiza a construção desse modo de pensar. Diante dessa premissa surge a inquietação e questão central que move e impulsiona essa pesquisa científica no âmbito do programa de estudos pós-graduados em comunicação e semiótica: “Como projeto de design interage com as ações do aluno em suas estratégias processuais criativas em rede no âmbito do ensino?”. Portanto, o objeto empírico que emerge dessa dinâmica entre a variável e invariável da questão, são as interações e conexões entre o projeto de design com as atividades projetuais do aluno em suas estratégias processuais criativas em rede. Para desenvolver essa pesquisa definimos pelo estudo de caso-exploratório e etnográfico a partir da observação e análise de dois cursos de graduação em design localizados na cidade de São Paulo: curso de design da Universidade de São Paulo/USP e curso de design industrial do Centro Universitário Senac, por meio da observação em sala de aula, do registro dos documentos de processo de criação e entrevista com os professores das disciplinas de projeto ou afins. As the Global View (2007) reports, there are about 5000 design-major students going to work annually in Taiwan; however, the business companies compliant of only few students well-qualified. It indicates that these design students don’t even meet the requirements of the business companies. Based on the claim that the cultivation of design professionals is rooted from design education, according to the new vocational school curriculum of 95-academic-year, this study is to plan subject group and unified core curriculum, and emphasizes the concept of real group and empty department. In addition, through literature review, the required design abilities are collected and used to conduct interviews with professionals and scholars. According to the interview result, the researcher summarizes the most required basic design ability indexes: knowledge, aesthetic, creativity, expression, technique, and practice. These six ability indexes are suggested and used to develop the common basic ability for vocational school design education. For the cultivation of design ability, students need to be provided with related programs to learn for the purpose of meeting the full requirement of design education. There are ten programs included, such as Introduction to Design, Color Theory, Art Appreciation, Design Basic, Shape Design, Design Drawing, Designing painting, General Design, Computer Drawing, Project Work, etc. Among them, five programs are technique domain, three are knowledge domain , and two are affection domain. They are planned to be the core subjects. At last, according to the suggestions and approval from professionals and scholars in terms of “Design Ability Need”and “Cultivation Curriculum Design”, the result has proven that six ability indexes and ten subjects mentioned in the preset study can be applied to vocational school basic design curriculum.

The purpose of this research is discussing about the vocational awareness of the industrial design students. This study aims to: 1) define the definition of the awareness of industrial design, 2) investigate the awareness of industrial design students, 3) analyze the influence, which is between the background and the awareness of students. At beginning, by the researching the literature, the 4 aspects had been defined: the work knowledge, the work value, the work preference, and the self-concept. Combining the explication of industrial design, which is collected from ICSID, IDSA, U.S. Department of Labor, and the contents of the 4 aspects had been done. And then, the research preceded the interviews of experts and students to let the contents more complete. In order to the investigation of vocational awareness, the researcher integrated the literatures and the contents of interviews to edit the questionnaires. Finally, the questionnaires were tested for 904 students who are chosen from all the industrial design students in Taiwan. The main conclusions of the questionnaire survey are: 1) students’ definition, content, and abilities of industrial design are the same with reference, 2) students have different opinions of work and life style in industrial design, 3) students have positive value for industrial design, 4) students think the career of industrial design is suitable for their preference, 5) the industrial design students have the good representation about the professional abilities, but the other knowledge which is about management, machine, material, and so on, is not enough, 6) the grade is the important fact to effect the students’ vocational awareness.

Processing innovative research and design by industrial design for providing product value to increase competitive power, cultivating high-quality designers is the key reinforcement. How to plan a curriculum for fulfilling vocational field demands is quietly urgent. Core curriculum is the most important and only continuous course of curriculum structure, which can cultivate necessary professional knowledge and abilities but not optional abilities. This study aims to propose a new curriculum model that can conform to the demands of industrial development in Taiwan. This study consists of 4 parts: 1) collecting teaching materials of core curriculum in Taiwan for further analysis and knowing applied states; 2) calculating pages and sorting by its contents, that helps sorting and interpreting contents for future planning; 3) generalizing the present curriculum directions and providing suggestions to fix the disadvantages of present curriculum. Finally, this processes a new core curriculum draft of industrial design according to the results of textbooks analysis. The Result shows that the most frequently used materials is「Product Design: A practical guide to systematic methods of new product development」. Design examples, forms summary and express methods are the most-pages 3 items. The final content of curriculum confirms to the vocational demands according to references and results from material analysis, includes chapters and sections, which plans more units for the disavantades of present materials. Besides, simplizeing curriculum units is also another method to make education purposes and core competencies more practiceable. This curriculum draft can be a discipline and a reference for future planning.

In recent years, because of the promotion of the living standard, lifestyle influences the interpersonal relationships. That makes people would like to invest more budget on shaping the overall image to show their characteristics. Due to the incressing popularity of beauty overall design and educating message, the related business of beauty and hairdressing develop rapidly. The hairdressing service has always been technology-oriented, so the industry needs manpower fully. In view of this, many technical and covational institutions have set up hairdressing related departments. Systematic and professional education by the school replaces the way of the traditional mentoring teaching to train the hairdressing professionals in response to the needs of the community. To avoid the big difference between trained personnel by school and requied personnel by workplace that makes graduates work frustratedly or unstably, understanding the trend of the hairdressing industry to hire various graduates and the requirement on professional ability becomes an important issue. Because of the trend of knowledge-based economy and globalization, demand of senior humen by companies increases. As the trend of high educated degree, the focus of the development of technical and vocational education has been changed gradually from vocational and specialized colleges to the Institute of Technology and University of Science and Technology as advanced technical and vocational education. This research takes the training education of beauty and hairdressing of Yamano College of Aesthetics in Japan and HungKuang University in Taiwan as examples to understand the similarities and differences of hairdressing professional education and personnel training between Japan and Taiwan. Through the literature of Japan and Taiwan, establish a theoretical basis,and according to the actual planned curriculums of school and questionnaires of professional designers, explore the effect of the technical and vocational education to the development of design ability. Expect by the research and depth of investigation, given the technical and vocational education system to develop design ability, to have more in-depth ideas and suggestions.

The cultivation of creativity has become the key ability that children should have, while creative teaching is an important way to cultivate students' creativity. In order to break through the traditional learning, this study applies Mandala thinking method (Mandala) and project-based learning method (Project-based Learning, PBL) to conduct design creativity teaching research in picture book creative courses of the design group in the vocational school. The teaching model of this study simulates the creation of the thinking-teaching model (ATDE) by Chen Longan (2006), and integrate the Mandala Thinking and the Project-based Learning Method, devising design and creativity teaching model “Questioning for Comment” which is based on the Mandala Thinking and is supported by project-style learning method. The findings of the study indicate that this creative teaching model is implementable. In the context of individual creative performance , this creative thinking method is helpful to students' creative performance. In the creative performance of the group's work, each group can stably progress in the performance of each unit .This creative teaching model is helpful to enhance the group's creative ability .In addition, the creative teaching model adopted in this study is a key factor influencing the creative performance and learning effectiveness of each unit of the picture creation work. The purpose of this paper was to design and implements a set of multipurpose motor controller for industrial vocational high schools. Based on the industrial vocational high schools' curriculum standard in Taiwan, and concerned about the forgoing new curriculum standard from the ministry of education, this thesis analyzed the operating procedures and specifications of ongoing motor controllers, then designed a new structure of motor controller on the aim of improvement of teaching and Learning. At the first step, this study was to analyze the control equipment's electric function to each type of motors. Then the second step was to involve personal computer as motor controlling console. This was because of personal computer's highly interactive function, and the convenience of flexible configuration of I/O bus (AT-BUS) was necessary in this study. The single chip INTEL 80196MC was added to the PC's AT-BUS, and it used only few personal computer's OS resources (such as interrupt and program timing) during controlling. So, The single chip 80196MC's assembly language made the real time control loop, and the personal computer's interface made the mode control system in this study. All these designs enabled the motor controller in personal computer with flexible ability and multipurpose usage, and made results as the following: 1. Using a set of multipurpose motor controller to replace DC shunt, DC series, 3phase induction, 2phase induction and brush-less synchronous motor controller was feasible and fairly when we concern to practicing and school budget. 2. Using a same set of motor controller to control several motor loads in school could make equipment supply more flexible in the same practice factory, and the maintenance could be reduced to a few sets. 3. Using personal computer as the motor controller's console and using single chip in real time loop as heart of multipurpose motor controller could reduce the steps of most wiring and the time of different controller's manual reading. Besides, involving Computer Aid Instruction (CAI) was more feasible than before. 4. By adaptation of the multipurpose system structure, it can make comparison between different control theorem as easily as in finger tips to students, and the control theorem and concept of motors could be both enhanced together.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss Neng-Ren Commercial Household Vocational High School’s history of identification promotion. Through a description of the school’s cultural background, we shall gain insight to the importance of promoting the school identification system. I will discuss the system’s influence on school affairs, and the attitudes of the school’s administrative staff, teachers, students, and parents. I shall summarize the research and offer recommendations and suggestions for those that are interested in promoting the school identification system. This research utilizes methods such as literature analysis, surveys, field observation and interviews as its main investigational strategies. School administrative personnel, teachers, students and parents were selected for the survey. The opinions of those interviewed were sorted for relevancy and compiled. To further discuss the process regarding the school’s promotion of the identification system, this research has drawn the following conclusions based on the compilation of relevant data: 1、 Understand the analysis on the importance of promotional strategies for private secondary schools. 2、The importance of introducing CIS into the development of SIS; it is certain that this would be greatly beneficial to promoting the image of school administration. 3、Instill CIS into SIS; extract its philosophy and essence. Make use of CIS’s system concept to map out a school image identification system. Effectively convey the school’s operational distinctiveness and cultural background to enhance the overall uniqueness of the entire school body. 4、To expand the application of SIS, use the school’s fundamental cultural uniqueness as a basis. In addition, aspects such as the school’s educational ideology, the points of distinction, and background culture must all be incorporated into a schematically planned image design system to achieve effective promotional results. Designed and created an SIS which encompasses the school’s distinguishing features. 5、Neng-Ren Commercial Household Vocational High School is advised to provide concrete marketing strategies as reference for developing schools. 6、As a result of the school’s constant push for SIS, positive influences were seen in areas such as curriculum, administration, school atmosphere, marketing and the students’ studies.

In the teaching of an accessory design course for the department of the vocat ional beaut ician high school , the generat ion of a design concept to learners is an abst ract concept. It is hard to put i t in words. In the process of construct ing the concept , by using the convent ional way of passing knowledge, learners usual ly feel at loss grabbing the abst ract idea as not being able to form an intel l igent representat ion to a design concept . Based on the observation, this study targets the senior students of the vocational beautician department, using "graphics" and "real works" as tools for the case study, through visualized training and leading students to develop "visual thinking" and "design thinking", through qualitative research to explore the development of the case studies betwiin teachers and students. Study shows using "graphics" and "real works" as case study resonates well with students. Through case study students learn "visual thinking" and through visual thinking design thinking, creativity and thought process form. At the operat ion stage, students cont inue the thinking process f rom case study discussions so they, through visual thinking, can observe and learn f rom the works of thei r peers whenever they get stuck and are will ing to help, trust and learn from each other. In addition, under-achieving students wil l no longer feel distant from the high-achieving students and, furthermore, they wi l l find a sense of belonging to the class. Besides discussing cases in the classroom of a vocat ional high school classroom has i ts dif ficulty. The key element to the case study teaching is the discussion on the cases so teachers have to respond to the progress of the teaching scenar io in order to conquer chal lenges and encourage the learners to ful ly express their thinking.

The ubiquitousness of the Internet and communication technologies is having a significant influence on teaching and learning practices both in terms of what is learnt and how it is learnt. Mathematics teaching and learning in vocational education is also facing new challenges due to the enormous influence of new technologies on workplace practices. This study makes an attempt to design and implement a web-based learning environment to facilitate and enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics in a TAFE setting. The design and development of the web-based learning environment aimed at providing opportunities for more engaging and authentic learning activities and promoting the use of new learning technologies in mathematics teaching and learning. The study included a practical orientation of action to bring about a change in the practice of teaching of mathematics in vocational education. Using a design-based research approach the study comprised two cycles. In the first cycle three mathematics teachers were involved in exploring Internet based mathematics resources and participated in the design of a website that consisted of twelve units of basic mathematical topics with facilities for both synchronous and asynchronous communication. This web-based learning environment known as Maths Concurrent Assistance (MCA) Online was then trialled with a number of mathematics teachers and students in mainly workshop mode. In the second cycle, the web-based learning environment was customised for a business mathematics module in a diploma course and trialled with a semester long course taught on campus in a blended learning format. Data obtained through classroom observation, WebCT logs, discussion board postings, test results and nterviews were used to explore and analyse issues concerned with students’ participation, access and use and the role of teacher in facilitating mathematics learning. The study also included a quasi-experimental research design to compare achievement and attitude of students who participated in this experiment with another group of students taught the same content by the same teacher in a traditional face-to-face mode with no Internet activities. Results from the study indicate that students’ successful participation in web-based mathematics learning in vocational education is contingent upon factors including learner readiness, interface design and course design. Students’ attitude towards mathematics appeared to influence their participation in web-based mathematical activities. Although computer skills and confidence are necessary for successful participation in web-based activities, students’ attitude towards mathematics played a more important role in determining their participation.

Abstract The technical and vocational education in Taiwan is the basis of our economic expansion. However, due to the increasing demand on the infrastructure, industrialization, socialization, and international competition, technical and vocational education is facing the turning point of reconcilement and adjustment. The objectives of this research are aiming at the reconstruction of the design faculties and the integration of the curriculums in response to the trend of current educational system, and as a contribution towards the future development of technical and vocational education. The research is categorized into three parts: (1) The necessity of reforming the design faculties to the new regulations; (2) The comparison of the curriculums, syllabus with the designated schedules of the Ministry of Education depicting from the random surveys among nine commercial design departments of technical and vocational senior high schools; (3) The variations and diversities between the technical and vocational senior high school and the comprehensive school in terms of their professional knowledge, technical trainings and capabilities. The following statements are the results from the data analysis, field studies and mathematical inductions of my case studies. 1. The recurrence scheme for technical and vocational education is the infrastructure for the educational reform program of the coming epoch. In order to increase the capacities and skills of the student to consolidate the circumference of the world, technical and vocational education should not be too diversified. Every school should concentrate on its specialty and focus on improving the competition of its elite. 2. In comparison with Professor Liu urriculum scheme of technical and vocational education? The Ministry of Education is re-adjusting the current system to improve the accessibility and acquisition of teachers. However, technical and vocational commercial design curricula was announced in December 1987, and executed in the following semester (SY76). After 11 years, the Ministry of Education conducted a declaration of technical and vocational education recurrence scheme following a reformed consolidation of school year and credit. Insomuch as the outcome has not yet revealed after this combinational system commenced in the school year of 89, another educational reform is merging. The Ministry of Education should be more thorough on making any educational promotion, after all education is designated to serve its people, society and the international communities. 3. In conclusion, the curriculum development of comprehensive school reveals a higher task in comparison with the current senior vocational high school. Would this be the final destination of the Ministry of Education? A future evaluation and analyses should be conducted amongst the design faculties of all senior vocational high schools and the comprehensive schools to regulate the educational reform agenda as well as the guidelines for the Ministry of Education continuing approach towards its globalization. Vocational school is a cradle for cultivating technological human power for basic units. The development of the design education of vocational school concerns the supply and connection of the design technological human power of a country. In a modern society where abundant knowledge and technology exist, it is an important theme for today''s educators how to judge, select and integrate them into a package for students. However, it is time to review the course contents pertaining to educational quality after being arranged and implemented for many years. Hence, to study the processes and problems of the development of Advertisement Design Department of Vocational School, the author have collected the course syllabuses of eight schools from the North, Central and South areas of Taiwan. Four provincial and four private schools were selected for comparison. Also, the required professional subjects relating to the Advertisement Design Department of Vocational School and some electives will be compared and discussed. In addition to review how the teachers master the goal of courses and explain the outline of courses, we will examine the situation that the content of Fine Arts course being taught in junior high school as well. This will be helpful to understand the cognizance of each subject in the teachers'' mind. With the comparison of the course syllabuses from many schools, it is easier to find out the similarities of many schools to become the general principle of course cognizance. Finally, through the syllabuses, it was found that there are some problems exactly existing in the course arrangement and teaching implementation of the Advertisement Design Department of Vocational School. The problems needed to be discussed and amended are stated as follows: 1. In the aspects of form and design basic courses, they contain similar teaching areas. In order to solve the confusion caused by the content overlaps and names of these two courses, it is depending on the teachers'' professional knowledge and experiences couple with the talent of the related organizations in coordination function to clear up both lateral and longitudinal connections and divisions among these two courses. 2. Besides, the teaching materials of the three courses are overlapping each other and some are even duplicated. Since the present of related advertisement theoretical planning and media practice as well as the teaching contents relating to governing regulations are supposed to prove each other theoretically and practically. Furthermore, they should executed synchronously, not separately. 3. The implementation of courses of Advertisement Design Department of Vocational School should avoid the attitude of thinking nothing but entering a higher school and graduation presentation of arts influencing regular teaching. This may lead the courses of the third grade to become only one course left or disagree with the subjects designated by the Ministry of Education. Consequently, the graduation and connection of teaching may be affected.

Practical training courses used in vocational education provide important services for students who are developing the knowledge, skills and professional ethics they will need. Through practical training, students learn to apply, verify and clarify different kinds of theories they learn in classes. The current advancements in information technology have gradually changed the forms of learning and application used with information technology. Assisting vocational students in gaining practical training has become an important vocational education issue and a hot topic for researchers.   In recent years, authentic situations have been adopted as learning tools in many disciplines and these situations allow students to undergo meaningful learning activities and to achieve the teaching targets of practical training courses while the course content remains consistent with the content of conventional teaching activities. However, the application of authentic learning experiences requires repeated evaluation and improvement to confirm its feasibility, to assure the learning activities undertaken by students provide meaningful experiences, and to make sure the results can be absorbed to become personal knowledge. As a result, students will be able to cultivate their creativity, practical skills, and the ability to solve problems they encounter in real life.   Based on the characteristics of both meaningful and authentic learning situations, this study proposes a set of measures used to evaluate meaningful and authentic learning. To make sure the criteria for the evaluation of meaningful and authentic learning are interrelated, the analytical hierarchy process was adopted in this study to develop a hierarchical framework evaluation model that was designed to improve the authentic learning system and learning situations as well as to upgrade learning results.   The outcome of the experiment shows that the information technology applied in the learning system and learning situations developed in this study will not create any unnecessary burden on students in their practical training activities. On the contrary, it can help them achieve the objectives related to authentic learning. For teachers, information technology can also reduce their workload in teaching and they only need to provide guidance, assistance, and feedback for students at the right time during learning activities to establish a teaching and learning environment that is consistent with meaningful and authentic learning.

ABSTRACT A proper textbook promotes teaching quality and learning effects. A textbook’s layout and illustration is the students’ impression on textbooks. The study intends to build up a set of principles of textbook’s layout so students will accept textbooks more willingly and pleased to learn. There are three major purposes in the study: to explore the importance of layout’s elements, the relationship between text’s layout and learning, and the relationship between illustration and learning. Questionnaire survey method is conducted in this study, in which vocational high school students in central Taiwan are participants. The data acquired are analyzed through descriptive statistics, multiple response analysis and one-way analysis of variance. The following are the conclusions induced: 1. As to the layout’s elements, most vocational high school students consider font size the most important , then followed by row spacing ,illustration and color. 2. As to the text’s layout, most vocational high school students are satisfied with the font size 16 and 1.5 lines. As to color collocation, most students prefer yellow matching blue3. As to the functions of the illustration, organizational illustrations assist students’ comprehension of the text contents best. The more satisfied students feel with the illustration, the more aspiration they have to English learning. With the study, the preferable layout’s elements are presented, which can serve as references for teachers and publishers. Key Words: textbook, layout, text, illustration

Interior Design in Vocational School began in Tainan’s Guang-Hua Senior school in 1974. In early time, it was named for Interior Decoration that belonged to Home Economics’ category. After the practice of New Curriculum Standards in 1990, it changed its name into Interior Design that belonged to Furniture Carpentry of industry. As the time changes, it changes its name into Interior Space Design and joins to the education of Interior Design. However, let’s take a look at the schools that open the courses that are related to Interior Design in Vocational School are changing year by year. There are lots of reasons to make this happen, such as the changing of educational policies, the way of entrance, arrangement of curricula and so on. All of these made the entry-level education of Interior Design can’t develop well skill certification test that is one of the goal of judging the skill and vocational education also lacks tests that are related to Interior Design. Even though Council of Labor Affairs had proclaimed the norm of technician’s certificate’s skill certification tests of Building Interior Design, however, it has the norm of class A and B certification only. The class C certification test that is suitable for Senior High School students is not included. Until now, the policy doesn’t put into practice yet. Under this circumstance, it makes the students of Interior Design who have no idea about the future and no way to follow. There are no related professional courses if they want to attend college, nor related skill certification tests if they want ask for a job. The education system of all Interior Design is becoming a form one. It is not fair for the students of Interior Design. Through the analysis of practical questionnaires, this research got the result that is from 161 professional teachers who teach the related Interior Design courses in 23 Senior High Schools in the whole country. As for Vocational Education, opening the class C skill certification test that is related to Interior Design is not only rebuilt the professional confidence of teachers, but also make the students of Interior Design learn the professional courses happily. In this case, it can help the students those who wants to continue their learning and those who gets employment with professional certification. The ideal in The Study in Policies and Regulations of Technical and Vocational Education which is announced by Department of Technological and Vocational Education in 2002 can be real put into practice-emphasize technical and vocational internship, and let vocational certification’s system can be realized.

Through the popularity of digital equipment and facilities and the development of information, Internet and communication technologies, the digital imaging functions have become unlimited. The design departments of higher vocational schools in Taiwan haven’t been able to systematically promoted digital imaging education. It is recommended that they establish a complete and interactive Internet platform with the integration of different fields, including photography, image processing, graphic design, media, etc., to add value to each other. Digital technology has demonstrated significant effects on the development of enterprises. In terms of its substantial influence on imaging education, it still needs to be developed. The objective of this study is to explore the supposed effects of digital imaging technology on imaging education to provide references for planning the content of imaging education that will meet industrial needs.

Advertising design is, in every way, closely related to creativity. Only by an excellent demonstration of creativity can one take hold of the golden opportunity in the keenly competitive environment. This study hopes, by way of realizing advertising design department students'''' creativity and the factors influencing it, to discover some potential problems and thus offer references in teaching and learning advertising design. The tools utilized in the study are Tests of Creative Thinking compiled by Wu Ching-chi and a questionnaire of influencing factors of students'''' creativity in advertising design department. The subjects are senior advertising design department students in both public and private vocational high schools. 347 questionnaires are distributed and 334 are returned. Analyses are then made through percentage, mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA. This study respectively states the influence of the four factors-- individuals, families, schools, and the society--on verbal creativity as well as graph creativity. The findings and conclusion are as follows: 1. Advertising design students show a higher level in verbal and graph creativity than ordinary students. 2. Among the factors that influence verbal creativity, creativity competition experience, professional training in art, recreational activities and what school they go to play the most distinctive roles. 3. Among the factors that affect graph creativity, academic performance, creativity experience and what school they belong to are most decisive. 4. As to graph creativity, originality, elaboration, and fluency reach a significance level but flexibility fail to reach the level. Is it because students do imitation more than creation? It is worth paying attention to.

The purpose of this study is to understand the user needs on electronic textbooks for vocational high schools from both teachers’ and students’ points of view, and the problems encountered during the development process of the e-textbook and how they were modified, so that the result can be referenced in the future for the design of e-textbooks. The research subjects were teachers and students in civil engineering of vocational high schools. Design research methodology was applied to understand the requirements of the research subjects on the topic “Wood” of in engineering materials, and iBooks Author was then employed to edit the initial version of the e-textbook. In view of the usage experience of teachers and students and the reflection of the researchers, improve the embryonic version through problem-based concept. The results show that: A. Teachers’ and students’ requirements for electronic textbooks were mostly based on their experiences in reading existing paper textbooks, the direction of the college entrance examination and the experiences of interactive media, which were more content-based. The requirements were as follows: 1. Contents: clear structure and easy to read; 2. Media: multimedia and interactive; 3. Learning strategies: primarily for studying and supplemented by assessment. B. If the design is content-based, then the selectin of the content and media is clearer, the development of electronic textbooks is easier to conduct, and it is more suitable for students’ self-study. However, the disadvantage is that the learning lacks in-depth understanding and knowledge linkage. C. Problem-based learning can lead students to integrate their knowledge and link between knowledge and practice. Therefore, students would have clear knowledge structure, and the retention of memory is enduring. To sum up, when editing electronic textbooks, it is recommended to analyze the curriculum structure first, then find out the linkage among related knowledge, and consider how to use the learning strategy to dismantle and integrate the problem, and then write the content and the media. By this way, the development cost can be reduced, and the textbook quality and student learning efficiency can be improved.

In the past, product/industrial design (ID) has been regarded as a masculine and male-dominated profession, and females have not been active in the field in Taiwan and an international context. To date, there are more female than male students in class for ID programs in Taiwan and the ratio of females studying ID has reached to 61%. It is significant to investigate female ID students’ career choices after being educated. This study aims to investigate vocational maturity and career choices of female ID students in Taiwan. The outcome could help to guide female ID talents for their employment and career planning. This study was divided into two phases: first, depth interviews with 25 female ID students/graduates were conducted to explore the content of vocational maturity and career choices; next, a questionnaire was developed to survey 417 female ID students in Taiwan distributed over 24 departments from 23 schools. The findings are summarized as follows: 1) The level of vocational maturity for female ID students is distributed between medium and high level tendency. 2) Those who were interested in ID when entered universities may maintain this tendency at graduation. 3) Three quarters of those who decide to enter the job market immediately after graduation tend to work in the non-ID jobs. 4) The level of vocational maturity for female ID students is not necessary increased with grades. 5) Female ID students with higher level of vocational maturity are inclined to make career choices at graduation, instead of being indecisive.

Face the influence that is globalized and international competition trend, various countries invest educational investment and reform , content and quality of promoting education actively, high-quality manpower needed by offering national economic construction and development to compete with globalization, this demand that because answer , sets up ' the ability standard ', and design for course by this in duty education system of the skill , really have its necessities. Because of being above-mentioned , aim at building and constructing and shifting to new management mechanisms with professional course of the standard orientation of professional ability in this research. Analyse through documents that understand the relevant theories transformed in professional ability development , course design and course, do it for the basis of studying. In developing in professional ability, the research approach takes focus group as the core, adopt the analytic approach of the function, regard ' the general attenbant's professional ability of chemical laboratory ' as the target of analysing, develop the functional diagram and ability standard. Transform the respect in course, rely mainly on the fact that the mental work is agitated , find out the main concept , make up the course content . This research obtains the following conclusion: First, in developing in professional ability 1. The development of the professional ability standard, can offer the basis that the course is designed of the educational field . 2. The analytic approach of the function carries on ability and analyses , suitable Fan's picture is quite extensive. 3. The function analyst is a person who analyses activity most important catalysis of the whole function. Second, transformation of the professional ability standard 1. The composition tool selects the computer software for use and carries on the concept concept, contribute to the forming of the concept picture. 2. The composition person is carrying on the concept composition, need to possess the professional accomplishment of this professional field. 3. The modification of the concept picture occupies the importance in the course of concept composition. 4. The composition way of the concept can be finished, or gone on by group's group alone by individual. 5. Vocational schools not only train the people basic skills, but also stimulate economical development and industrial-escalation. However, with the change of society, improvement of technology and human intelligence, advanced vocational education should continually be adapted. That is, the structure and the quality of the system need to be upgraded; and moreover, to acknowledge the students’ individual potentiality and the country’s needs. By doing so, we’ll be thus able to have consciously-made plans beforehand and improving schemes to train people of basic skills of different aspects, whom Taiwan needs for advanced economical development. Designing industry closely follows the steps of times. Therefore, designers are supposed to be fully aware of the change of technology and trends. With the trends of computerization, computer serves as one of the most significant designing facilities. Consequently, the application of computer graphic two-dimensional designing has been considered as an indispensable and required skill. Furthermore, as this industry been computerized, the essential body of computer graphic in advertisement designing department should synchronize itself with tide and trends to achieve the final goal of vocational education. This research will discusses the essential body of Computer Graphic Course in Advertisement Designing Department. It is to gather and compare the opinions from the designing industry, teachers in vocational senior high school, as well as teachers in technological and vocational college; then, to induce to an outline of Computer Graphic Course in Advertisement Designing Department. Apart from different opinions from these three aspects, this research also concludes that people from different areas conform to a central idea of the operation of systems software in Computer Graphic Course, considering this knowledge and skill as essential. As for the attitude towards the essential body of Computer Graphic Course, teachers in vocational senior high schools emphasizes more on the operation of basic software, while the designing business highlights the principles or theories behind practicing and the development of basic skills. Teachers in technological and vocational college, with no exception, hold strong expectation towards the Computer Graphic Course; they insist on both understanding of basic principles and application or manipulation of software. But in fact, there might not be sufficient time in class for Computer Graphic Course in Advertisement Designing Department of vocational senior high schools.

In present days, great proportion of vocational senior high school in Taiwan has been either under transitional period or started to establish Interior Design and Interior & Space Design department. By the end, of year 2009, over 20 high schools have been offering courses and trainings to foster students who have great interest and passions to be specializing in interior design; High-level standard training courses have been offered to allow students to develop upon professions to meet challenges in fast-changing market, and build on further of current visions; Raise up student level of competitiveness has been the ultimate goal of all course teachers. The aim of this research was to carry out in-depth analysis of student’s level of satisfaction towards course teaching of interior design training courses, therefore, understand needs and satisfaction of training courses of students who specialize in interior design profession. Analysis and survey result of this research may be use as reference source for further study and course teaching to students and teachers of interior design related course. This research has been carried out by conduct survey with students of interior design training courses been our target group. Purpose of this survey aims to explore student’s personal attributes, satisfaction of course teaching, differences on overall satisfaction and relevance. There were 380 sets of valid survey data been collected from the sample pool, the following are significant findings and data analysis obtained with the aid of SPSS statistical software: 1.Among 5 factors of teacher’s professional skills, “teacher’s level of knowledge and experience” was the significant factor that has been mostly satisfied by student. 2.Among 3 factors of self-feeling towards learning development after the course, “affective domain” was the significant factor that has been mostly satisfied by student. 3.In between overall satisfaction and all factors of teacher’s professional skills and self-feeling towards learning development after the course, the research data have shown a positive correlation. 4.Predicted variables of student’s level of satisfaction towards interior design course teaching are as follow: teaching attitude, teacher’s level of knowledge and experience, teaching assessment, cognitive domain, affective domain and skills. These 8 variables forecast 67.8% variance of overall satisfaction; Within 67.8% variance, the factor “cognitive domain” of self-feeling towards learning development after the course has accounted for 46.6% of the total predictable variance.

The main purposes of this study were 1) to explore the process of electronic teaching materials design on drafting practice in vocational high schools and also 2) to discuss teachers'' advices and their opinions after using them. A case study was adopted as the main research method, which includes interview and content analysis. At the beginning researcher designed and developed the electronic teaching materials by following the ADDIE model to combine 2D animation or 3D animation simulation and highly interactive functions into the electronic teaching materials. Five drafting department teachers were asked to use and test out the electronic teaching materials. Interviews were conducted to understand how the instructors felt about incorporating these electronic materials in drafting practice. The results were listed as follows: First, the teachers identified their needs when incorporating electronic teaching materials to include: The materials help (1) reduce their teaching preparation time; (2) easily motivates students; (3) and adjust teaching tempo. Second, the teachers indicate that the mostly used teaching components of electronic teaching materials were simulation and evaluation teaching components. Both components were combined with situational teaching method, lecture, and question and answer method and etc to assisted instruction through the process. Third, the teachers interact with student through the “electronic teaching materials” because (1) the simulation component allowed them to rehearse, and (2) the evaluation component attracted them. Fourth, the teachers thought that “electronic teaching materials” met the needs of their teaching. In addition, they suggest that “ppt teaching component” may be changed into 2D animation or lecture and attach a download area. Also change the UI into bright warm colors. Last but not least, the teachers held a positive attitude toward the “electronic teaching materials” and were willing to continue using them.

The purposes of this study were to understand personality traits and self-efficacy for vocational high school design group students, to analyze the differences of demographic factors on the personality traits and self-efficacy for vocational high school design group students, and to explore the correlations of the personality traits and self-efficacy for vocational high school design group students.   Survey research was adopted in this study, and vocational high school design group students in the school year of 2012 served as subjects in this study. 999 copies of questionnaires were sent, and 916 valid copies were collected by stratified cluster sampling. Descripted statistics, one- samples t- test, independent sampled t- test, one way ANOVA, as well as Pearson product movement correlation were conducted to analyze the result. The conclusions were as follows: 1. The personality traits for vocational high school design group students was found 「neuroticism」personality traits. 2. The perception of personality traits of vocational high school design group students was found different on the factors of parenting styles, characteristics of schools, group of schools. But no different was found on the factors of gender, birth order, grade. 3. The self-efficacy for vocational high school design group students was found ii acceptable. 4. The perception of self-efficacy of vocational high school design group students was found different on the factors of parenting styles, characteristics of schools, group of schools. But no different was found on the factors of gender, birth order, grade. 5. It shows the personality traits of conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness and extraversion has positive relationship with self-efficacy, and the personality traits of neuroticism has negative relationship with self-efficacy of the vocational high school students. Base on the results of this study, suggestions for teachers and vocational high school design group students, the design group of vocational high school, and future studies were proposed.

With the rise of economy in Taiwan, people have more demand on indoor living quality. And creating the interior decoration industry booming in recent years has become an important industry of building. Through the industry reaction, the errors in the process of construction were often due to the interior decoration and repair employees lack of professional engineering management competence and caused the construction schedule delay. Therefore, how to improve the interior designer&;apos;&;apos;s professional engineering management competence and cultivate professionals in engineering management, is the most in need of the problems faced the education in nowdays. For this reason, this study will focus on the students of interior design department in vocational high school should have the ability to study professional engineering management, in order to construct &;quot;the professional engineering management competence index for interior design department in vocational high school.&;quot; To improve the quality of Taiwan&;apos;&;apos;s overall technical and vocational education to train with an international outlook and meet the required student workplace, thereby reaching the goal of vocational education, results of the research will also provide relevant domestic departments as a reference for curriculum. In this study, through literature review and for the personnel in government agency competent and the professionals graduated from the interior design department of vocational high school in telephone interviews, designing Delphi questionnaire synthesizing after literature and expert opinion to aggregate into sixty evaluation factors. First phase will use Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM), twenty-nine evaluation factors deleted after through survey of reliability and validity formal questionnaire, to establish the consensus of the engineering management performance index assessed for interior design department in vocational high school. Second phase through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), to obtain the assessment framework of “ the engineering management competence index for interior design department in vocational high school “ divided into four levels, including four evaluation dimensions, twelve assessment items and thirty-one assessment factors. After validity testing and formal questionnaire statistics, achieved the engineering management performance index for interior design department in vocational high school its weights and sorting, and take this as education linked for vocational high school and technical and vocational education courses of reference to reduce the gap of the difference of the cognition between academia and industry about the professional engineering management competence index for interior design department in vocational high school. Through survey shows that in the second level of assessment for the &;quot;construction plan&;quot; and &;quot;public safety and health&;quot;, the third level of assessment to item &;quot;constructing - working procedure arranged &;quot; and &;quot; security control plan&;quot; and the fourth level of evaluation factor &;quot;deatil drawing drawed and interpreted &;quot;and&;quot; staff control &;quot;... and other projects, the expert groups do have significant differences of opinion. Expected of this study achieve industry and academia integrated, and communication and toleration of all walks of life can can promote exchanges between the industry and academia, and thus reached production and academia seamless integration to enable students to apply their knowledge in order to reach the spirit of technical and vocational education.

It is a trend of education among nations to train student’s creative thinking. Humor can ignite student’s creative abilities in various aspects to promote learning motivation. The purpose of this study was to introduce humor into the creative potential course of vocational commercial design curriculum and explored students’ learning effect. The results were as follows. 1.The introduction of humor into the creative potential course could enhance the comprehension of humor, humorous creativity, and the attitude to humor. 2.The introduction of humor into the creative potential course could not promote effectively the response to humor, humor in social situations, and the tendency of smile. Because of the limitation of teaching time, it will be better to train the ability in longer time or off the course for good effect. 3.The introduction of humor into the creative potential course could not bring obvious effect to creativity. The course focused on presentation techniques of humor by training on the use of humorous titles, texts and graphic design of posters, which had no effect to the promotion of creativity. 4.The introduction of humor into the creative potential course could promote students’ ability in designing posters. Teachers should consider students’ ability and condition in their classes to create a learning environment of creativity and humor. More humorous elements could be introduction to help students to develop more creative viewpoints and presentation techniques to stimulate more creative energy.

This thesis depends on some theories and provides the available schema on Remedial Instructions, in which Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) shows the basic points of teaching materials on scheduled lessons. As the principle of Machine Elements courses, in vocational high school, the use of Formative Evaluation in CAI courses schema through Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), will gain the weights of all points in this schema, and this will become the principle of how to design the teaching materials. After finishing these teaching materials, it’s necessary to use Summative Evaluation to ensure the quality of these teaching materials. These teaching materials include the method of the World Wide Web (WWW). It’s able to help tutees get knowledge through Internet. Through Behaviorism , Cognitive theory, Social learning theory and Game theory on CAI, this thesis will explain that schema of CAI teaching materials theory includes such teaching method as tests, tutorials, simulations and gaming. The method of making teaching materials is basic to these theories, and it is divided into 5 systems: teaching unit, learning on line, communication, help and system management. It’s found that it will improve the tutees’ abilities of memory, active learning and problem solving.

The macro social development in Taiwan poses a considerable challenge to school education. Under the influence of the declining birth rate and existent education systems, schools are faced with the threat of abolishment. Innovative value thus becomes important in contemporary education. Educational institutions endeavor to manifest their characteristics and advantages in order to demonstrate positive image of the school and enhance their competitiveness in the educational realm. This innovative study focuses on the design and promotion of school image and uses applications of international design thinking trends that successfully lead development in various fields as the emphasis and research methods of this study. The methods are integrated into design curricula, in which students are guided with group discussion and creation sessions based on innovative education approaches to develop feasible projects that promote school image. As a teacher of Taipei Municipal Neihu Vocational High School, the author conducts the current innovative study using the affiliated school as the subject. The research results are expected to achieve the goal of improving students’ thinking abilities , uncover the core spirits of the school, and attain sustainability. The objectives of this study are as follows: (a) understand the trends and applications of contemporary innovative design thinking that is internationally popular, as well as their relationship with education; (b) implement courses to guide students to use design thinking to discuss problems and determine solutions; (c) perform integrated creation to display a valuable, concrete, and systematic contextual design of creation; and (d) inspire more scholars using the research results to investigate related education topics. In this study, the literature regarding school image and design thinking is reviewed; subsequently, a benchmark case under the Ministry of Education Program of National Secondary and Elementary Characteristic Schools and cases relevant to the W orld Design Capital Taipei Grounding Program in Design Education are analyzed to plan a series of fine arts courses for hands-on practice. The students’ creative works regarding school image reform under design thinking guidance are compiled and organized to ultimately determine the crucial elements of design. The results reveal the focal characteristics of the case school that help formulate the school’s excellent and salient image to assist in achieving the school’s vision.

The main aim of this study was to compile a career interest inventory – the Career Preference Inventory (CPI) – that would succeed in identifying the career preferences or vocational interests of learners from Grades 9 to 12. The specific objectives of the study involved an empirical examination of the content validity, construct validity, as well as reliability of the inventory. A study was also made of the structure of vocational interests of the test groups that formed part of the study. The study entailed two empirical investigations. When the inventory was administered for the first time, additional items were added to the SAVII and the test group was made up of a representative sample of 1385 Grade 9 and 12 learners in the North West Province. As a result of the item analysis that was based on this sample, 54 of the items in the questionnaire were either changed or replaced. The reliability coefficients of the subfields of the SAVII for the population involved in the first administration were acceptable and ranged between 0,747 and 0,901. After an analysis of the items in the SAVII and the selection of the most suitable items, the questionnaire – by now known as the Career Preference Inventory (CPI) – was administered once again. The reason for the second administration was to establish whether the amended items met the statistical requirements that had been set. Convenience sampling was used in this part of the study, since it was not possible to draw a representative sample of the population. The sample consisted of 1271 Afrikaans first language speakers, 2699 English second language speakers and 306 English first language speakers. Item analysis revealed that all the items were acceptable. The reliability coefficients of the fields of the CPI were also acceptable and varied between 0,714 and 0,860 for the particular test group. Test-retest reliability coefficients could be calculated for a group of 197 English second language speakers only and varied between 0,689 and 0,863. A factor analysis was made to determine the constructs or factors that emerged with regard to the CPI. Initially six factors were specified, but since the fields for Clerical-Administrative, Business, and Management manifested within a single factor, seven factors were subsequently withdrawn to establish whether the two latter-mentioned components could indeed function independently. The following fields or dimensions eventually realised: 1) Human-Communication; 2) Medical and related; 3) Technical-Scientific; 4) Practical-Handcraft; 5) Artistic; 6) Business and Management; and 7) Clerical-Administrative. The final questionnaire contains 18 fields that are described individually and that are not categorised into 6 main fields. The questionnaire is also supposed to disclose the vocational information in Career Mentor in an ordered and structured manner. The 18 fields are therefore linked to more than 500 occupations and the CPI results serve as a search strategy that unlocks the mentioned occupational database according to specific vocational preferences.
