Leibniz called the first article “New method max- imums and minimums”. Instead of considering the realisation of the method for maximums and minimums, it should have been considered from symbolic side as the Universal characteristic. The extremums as symbols of universal language covers all infinity of the certain subjects sense of which it is. Creation of a block matrix (by means of the left tensor square) allowed to reveal macrolevel and circular arrangement of charts. And in philosophy of a science there is no other way to follow the Nature except to follow to genetics. The logic reduction of a non-classical multi-valuedness to classical binarity of the designated and anti-designated values forms overlaps from right to left and from left to right, forming a hysteresis loop arranging the circular order. The complementarity of levels generates fractality of the main table structure.

The conception of universal combinatorial coding is proposed. Relations exist more or less in many coding methods. It means that a kind of universal coding method is objectively existent. It can be a bridge connecting many coding methods. Universal combinatorial coding is lossless and it is based on the combinatorics theory. The combinational and exhaustive property make it closely related with the existing code methods. Universal combinatorial coding does not depend on the probability statistic characteristic of information source, and it has the characteristics across three coding branches. It has analyzed the relationship between the universal combinatorial coding and the variety of coding method and has researched many applications technologies of this coding method. In addition, the efficiency of universal combinatorial coding is analyzed theoretically. The multicharacteristic and multiapplication of universal combinatorial coding are unique in the existing coding methods. Universal combinatorial coding has theoretical research and practical application value.

Statistical characteristics of surface meteorology are examined in terms of frequency spectra. According to a recent work using hourly data over 50 yr in the Antarctic, the frequency spectra have a characteristic shape proportional to two different powers of the frequency in the frequency ranges lower and higher than a transition frequency of (several days)−1. To confirm the universality of the characteristic spectra, hourly data—including surface temperature, sea level pressure, and zonal and meridional winds—collected over 45 yr at 138 stations in Japan were analyzed. Similar spectral shapes are obtained for any physical quantities at all stations. The spectral slopes clearly depend on the latitude, particularly for sea level pressure, which in the high-frequency range are steeper at higher latitudes. Next, the analysis was extended using realistic simulation data over one month with a nonhydrostatic model to examine the global characteristics of the spectra in the high-frequency range. The model spectra accord well with the observations in Japan. The spectral slopes are largely dependent on the latitude—that is, shallow in the low latitudes, and steep in the middle and high latitudes for all the physical quantities. The latitudinal change of the spectral slope is severe around 30°, which may be due to the dynamical transition from nongeostrophy to geostrophy. The longitudinal variations are also observed according to the geography. The variance is large in the storm-track region for surface pressure, on the continents for temperature and over the ocean for winds.

The method is a reduction to the known case of one-dimensional groups by a deformation argument based on properties of the stratification by Newton polygons.

AbstractThe structure of the Universe is determined primarily by the interplay of gravity which is dominant in condensed objects, and the magnetic force which is dominant in the rarefied medium between condensed objects. Each of these forces orders the matter into a set of characteristic structures each with the ability to store and release energy in response to changes in the external environment. For the most part, the storage and release of energy proceeds through a number of Universal Processes. The coordinated study of these processes in different settings provides a deeper understanding of the underlying physics governing Universal Processes in astrophysics.

Abstract In [3], a universal linear algebraic model was proposed for describing homogeneous conformal geometries, such as the spherical, Euclidean, hyperbolic, Minkowski, anti-de Sitter and Galilei planes ([6]). This formalism was independent from the underlying field, providing an extension and general approach to other fields, such as finite fields. Some steps were taken even for the characteristic 2 case. In this article, we undertake the study of the characteristic 2 case in more detail. In particular, the concept of virtual quadratic spaces is used ([4]), and a similar result is achieved for finite fields of characteristic 2 as for other fields. Some differences from the non-characteristic 2 case are also pointed out.

AbstractWe present a new derivation of the polynomial identities satisfied by certain matrices A with entries Aij (i, j = 1,…, n) from the universal enveloping algebra of a semi-simple Lie algebra. These polynomial identities are exhibited in a representation-independent way as p(A) = 0 where p(x) (herein called the characteristic polynomial of A) is a polynomial with coefficients from the centre Z of the universal enveloping algebra. The minimum polynomial identity m(A) = 0 of the matrix A over Z is also obtained and it is shown that p(x) and m(x) possess properties analogous to the characteristic and minimum polynomials respectively of a matrix with numerical entries. Acting on a representation (finite or infinite dimensional) admitting an infinitesimal character these polynomial identities may be expressed in a useful factored form. Our results include the characteristic identities of Bracken and Green [1] as a special case and show that these latter identities hold also in infinite dimensional representations.

ABSTRACT It has been established for decades that rotation curves deviate from the Newtonian gravity expectation given baryons alone below a characteristic acceleration scale $g_{\dagger }\sim 10^{-8}\, \rm {cm\, s^{-2}}$, a scale promoted to a new fundamental constant in MOND. In recent years, theoretical and observational studies have shown that the star formation efficiency (SFE) of dense gas scales with surface density, SFE ∼ Σ/Σcrit with $\Sigma _{\rm crit} \sim \langle \dot{p}/m_{\ast }\rangle /(\pi \, G)\sim 1000\, \rm {M_{\odot }\, pc^{-2}}$ (where $\langle \dot{p}/m_{\ast }\rangle$ is the momentum flux output by stellar feedback per unit stellar mass in a young stellar population). We argue that the SFE, more generally, should scale with the local gravitational acceleration, i.e. that SFE ${\sim}g_{\rm tot}/g_{\rm crit}\equiv (G\, M_{\rm tot}/R^{2}) / \langle \dot{p}/m_{\ast }\rangle$, where Mtot is the total gravitating mass and $g_{\rm crit}=\langle \dot{p}/m_{\ast }\rangle = \pi \, G\, \Sigma _{\rm crit} \approx 10^{-8}\, \rm {cm\, s^{-2}} \approx \mathit{ g}_{\dagger }$. Hence, the observed g† may correspond to the characteristic acceleration scale above which stellar feedback cannot prevent efficient star formation, and baryons will eventually come to dominate. We further show how this may give rise to the observed acceleration scaling $g_{\rm obs}\sim (g_{\rm baryon}\, g_{\dagger })^{1/2}$ (where gbaryon is the acceleration due to baryons alone) and flat rotation curves. The derived characteristic acceleration g† can be expressed in terms of fundamental constants (gravitational constant, proton mass, and Thomson cross-section): $g_{\dagger }\sim 0.1\, G\, m_{\mathrm{ p}}/\sigma _{\rm T}$.

High quality means good fitness for the intended use. Research activity regarding quality measures for platelet transfusions has focused on platelet storage and platelet storage lesion. Thus, platelet quality is judged from the manufacturer’s point of view and regulated to ensure consistency and stability of the manufacturing process. Assuming that fresh product is always superior to aged product, maintaining in vitro characteristics should preserve high quality. However, despite the highest in vitro quality standards, platelets often fail in vivo. This suggests we may need different quality measures to predict platelet performance after transfusion. Adding to this complexity, platelets are used clinically for very different purposes: platelets need to circulate when given as prophylaxis to cancer patients and to stop bleeding when given to surgery or trauma patients. In addition, the emerging application of platelet-rich plasma injections exploits the immunological functions of platelets. Requirements for quality of platelets intended to prevent bleeding, stop bleeding, or promote wound healing are potentially very different. Can a single measurable characteristic describe platelet quality for all uses? Here we present microparticle measurement in platelet samples, and its potential to become the universal quality characteristic for platelet production, storage, viability, function, and compatibility.

In the 1970's it was found that; for low frequencies (<10 Hz), speech is scaling: it has no characteristic time scale. Now such scale invariance is associated with multiscaling statistics, and multifractal structures. Just as Gaussian noises frequently arise because they are generically produced by sums of many independent noise processes, scaling noises have an analogous universal behavior arising from nonlinear mixing of processes. We show that low frequency speech is consistent with these ideas, and use the measured parameters to produce stochastic speech simulations which are strikingly similar to real speech.

In the practice of centrifugal compressor designing, different engineering techniques are widely used because flow motion differential equations cannot be integrated, and Computational fluid dynamics cannot resolve the problem as a whole. By the earlier versions of the UMM, dozens of process compressors were designed. Several sets of empirical coefficients for stages of different specific speeds were applied. The paper presents the current state of the universal modeling method that was recently improved. The models of the centrifugal compressor characteristic calculation are described. A new model of the loading factor characteristic, an improved version of the compressor efficiency, and being based on a CFD-calculation vaneless diffuser model are samples of the improvements. Careful identification and verification demonstrate effective characteristic simulation with a single set of empirical coefficients. Centrifugal compressor new design examples of a turbo expander unit and a turbocharger are presented. The calculated characteristics are compared with the test results. For both objects, the experiments confirmed the calculated gas-dynamic characteristics with sufficient accuracy for engineering methods.

We report on a comprehensive examination of the exotic superconductors (the materials so-labelled by Uemura and co-workers), to determine as far as possible the true systematics among their many anomalous features. In the crystal-chemistry aspects as well as in the electronic properties, we find features which appear to be universal for these materials, and also features which are clearly not universal but which are common enough to be considered typical for these materials. A number of implications are presented. There is strong evidence that all of these materials are sharing some "new" pairing mechanism, usually in addition to the conventional phonon mechanism.

Researchers examined the concurrent and predictive validity of a brief (12-item) teacher-rated school readiness screener, the Kindergarten Student Entrance Profile (KSEP), using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to examine associations between ( N = 78) children’s social-emotional (SE) and cognitive (COG) readiness with measures of behavioral/emotional risk and early literacy skills throughout kindergarten. Results indicated statistically significant associations between both subscales of the KSEP (SE and COG) with all outcome variables. Findings provide validity evidence in support of the KSEP as an initial gate in the universal screening process to inform educators on the readiness of incoming kindergarteners.

The structure and characteristic of the twin tripod sliding universal joint were studied in this paper. The degree of freedom was calculated theoretically and then the structure of this joint was improved to obtain single degree of freedom. At the same time, the degree of freedom of improved mechanisms was checked by using the CAD software Pro/E. This work offers the base for further research and development of this universal joint.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of six commercially available universal dental adhesives: Adhese Universal (ADU), All-Bond Universal (ABU), Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CBQ), G-Premio Bond (GPB), Prelude One (PRO) and Scotchbond Universal (SBU). The properties tested were: (a) degree of C=C conversion (DC%); (b) Vickers micro-hardness (VHN); (c) extent of oxygen inhibition (OI/μm), all related with the adhesive film properties; (d) extent of dentin demineralisation (DM%), insoluble salt formation (AS%); and (e) shear bond strength (SBS, self-etch mode) related to the adhesive-dentin interactions. Statistical analysis (α = 0.05) was performed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (DC%, VHN, OI, DM% AS%) and Weibull analysis (SBS, σ0-β). The DC ranged from 67.2–82.5% (all >GPB), OI from 5.6–18.6 μm (SBU > ADU, GPB, ABU > CBQ > PRO), microhardness from 1.1–6.6 VHN (SBU > ADU > ABU > CBQ > PRO > GPB: not measurable), DM from 69.3% (GPB) to 16–12.5% (CBQ, SBU, ADU) and 13.2–10.6% (ABU, ADU, PRO), in homogeneous groups and AS from 26–15.9% (ABU, CBQ > GPB, PRO, ADU, SBU). For SBS the σ0 (characteristic life) ranged from 29.3–16.6 MPa (CBQ, ADU, ABU, SBU > PRO > GPB), the β (reliability) from 5.1–9.7 (p > 0.05). All failure modes were of mixed type (adhesive and composite cohesive). Although all these adhesives were based on the 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) adhesive monomer, the different co-monomers, solvents and catalysts led to variations in their film properties, reactivity and bonding capacity with dentin.

We show that the universal associative envelope of the simple anti-Jordan triple system of all [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text] is even, [Formula: see text]) matrices over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 is finite-dimensional. The monomial basis and the center of the universal envelope are determined. The explicit decomposition of the universal envelope into matrix algebras is given. The classification of finite-dimensional irreducible representations of an anti-Jordan triple system is obtained. The semi-simplicity of the universal envelope is shown. We also show that the universal associative envelope of the simple polarized anti-Jordan triple system of [Formula: see text] matrices is infinite-dimensional.
