This research report presents the experience of Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios (UNIMINUTO, the head office and the headquarter of Cundinamarca) on designing and implementing a meteorological measurement network. Initially, the meteorological stations were installed in urban environments (some headquarters of the university) and open spaces (farms of the university) in order to monitor variables that allow to know and understand the atmosphere behavior at high temporal resolutions. This article highlights the participation of some Colombian universities in the creation of environmental monitoring networks that contribute to the risk management associated with extreme weather events, as well as to the local and regional meteorological research and the academic and scientific dissemination. It is also analyzed social, academic and investigative impacts generated by the creation of automatic meteorological measurement networks. Furthermore, it is studied how these individual efforts facilitate and contribute to strength agreements with government institutions for environmental management purposes. At the end of this report, it can be found UNIMINUTO’s own experience formulating projects and researches to facilitate students and teachers’ learning process and contribute to strength the institutional research using high-quality and high temporal resolution climatological data.

The present investigation analyzes the relationship between the self-regulation of learning and the personality characteristics of university students belonging to the Minuto de Dios University Corporation - UNIMINUTO of Bogotá - Colombia the sample consisted of 75 men and women between 18 and 45 years of age. From the application of the instruments: Gordon's personality profile and inventory (ancestry, responsibility, emotional stability, sociability, caution, originality, commitment, vitality, and self-esteem) and the self-report questionnaire - self-regulation of learning, the correlational analysis was carried out. Using Spearman's Rho (significance level p<0.05). The results suggest that students who know and apply learning self-regulation techniques tend to be dominant (ancestry) independent, so they take responsibility for their personal goals (commitment), emotionally stable, and friendly. On the other hand, students who are cautious, original, and oriented towards understanding others tend to give little importance or use, to a lesser extent, the use of self-regulated learning strategies.

The dynamics and demands of contemporary society require increasingly tight adjustments concerning time, space, and human relationships. Maintaining a healthy balance among work, education, and leisure is necessary and challenging. In this scenario, distance education and information and communication technologies offer university-level training opportunities for those working in various contexts. In addition to time management challenges, finding leisure spaces that promote well-being presents another challenge. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the implications of simultaneously working and studying in leisure spaces and times, particularly focusing on students pursuing education through a distance-learning modality at the Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios-UNIMINUTO at a national level in Colombia. Methodologically, the study adopted a mixed research approach, utilizing a sequential explanatory design. Data were collected through questionnaires and the focus group technique. The analysis was based on categories such as serious leisure, casual leisure, digital leisure, and satisfaction with leisure. The quantitative component constituted a sample size of 455 students. The results revealed the characteristics of the leisure spaces within this population and the level of satisfaction with the limited leisure times and spaces available, given the peculiarity of working and studying concurrently. This satisfaction, whether derived from serious, casual, or digital leisure activities, correlated with the achieved well-being on personal and familial dimensions. One of the most popular strategies to develop skills such as collaborative work, critical thinking, and problem-solving is the application of COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) through a Global Classroom in which Professors from at least two universities from different countries and cultures develop a period known as "Global Classroom" in which, through the Challenge Based Learning didactic technique, they solve a real-life challenge but from a distance, using digital communication tools. In this study, 4-week global courses were held between groups from the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico and groups from the UNIMINUTO University in Colombia. The challenges developed were related to two fundamental issues: 1) Management of natural resources and climate change and 2) Biomimetics. Students were able to develop skills to communicate effectively through online interaction with people from different cultures and disciplines and use technological tools that facilitate communication and distance learning in multicultural virtual environments. The use of Global Classroom in their respective areas of study is made available to those interested as a valuable tool to provide students with the opportunity to live sustainable international experiences and promote the Sustainable Development Goals. Current teaching models involve active and experiential learning and developing soft and hard skills. The Global Classroom experience is a tool that allowed continuity in the preparation of students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The studies, analysis, reflections and positions regarding the leisure-work relationship is not new and is current, although sometimes it is not tangible and visible at first glance, even more so when the young population in Colombia takes advantage of distance and virtual education to be able to work and generate income and thus pay for a study; Thus, it was sought to analyze the incidence of working and studying simultaneously in the leisure time and spaces of students in distance and virtual mode of the Minuto de Dios-Uniminuto University Corporation in Bogotá-Colombia. Methodologically, the study was executed from a non-experimental, cross-sectional-descriptive design, an on-line questionnaire-type information collection instrument was used with categories: serious leisure, casual leisure, digital leisure and satisfaction with leisure time. A representative sample of 486 students was used with a standard deviation of .5, a confidence level of 98% and an acceptable sample error limit of .05 for a population size of 12096 students. The incidence of students working and studying simultaneously in distance and virtual modes is reflected in a recurrence that tends to be medium to low in the development of activities of serious leisure, casual leisure and digital leisure; However, satisfaction with leisure time is high, with which it can be inferred that leisure manages to fulfill a restorative function in terms of well-being.

The paper reports on the activities of the RILEM technical committee Reinforcement of Timber Elements in Existing Structures. The main objective of the committee is to coordinate the efforts to improve the reinforcement practice of timber structural elements. Recent developments related to structural reinforcements can be grouped into three categories: (i) addition of new structural systems to support the existing structure; (ii) configuration of a composite system; and (iii) incorporation of elements to increase strength and stiffness. The paper specifically deals with research carried out at the Bern University of Applied Sciences Switzerland (BFH), the University of Minho Portugal (UniMinho), and the University of Trento Italy (UNITN). Research at BFH was devoted to improve the structural performance of rounded dovetail joints by means of different reinforcement methods: i) self-tapping screws, ii) adhesive layer, and iii) a combination of self-tapping screws and adhesive layer. Research at UNITN targeted the use of dry connections for timber-to-timber composites, specifically reversible reinforcement techniques aimed at increasing the load-bearing capacity and the bending stiffness of existing timber floors. At UniMinho, double span continuous glulam slabs were strengthened with fibre-reinforced-polymers. All three examples demonstrate the improved structural performance of timber elements after reinforcing them.
