In terms of fish dynamic population, reproduction is a process related with corporal size of each population member, which is tied with the spawning time and number of eggs produced. In order to relate the size of female little tuny (Euthynnus alletteratus), located in the southwest Gulf of Mexico, and its contribution in reproductive process, cycle and reproductive characteristics were analyzed by different size groups. Biological data were obtained by the artisanal fishing fleet of Antón Lizardo Veracruz community (Mexico). A total of 480 fish were caught from December 2009 to November 2012. Size structure, gonadosomatic index and duration and intensity spawning index were determined. The gonadosomatic index showed a decrease in the population after April and July. Nevertheless, this months and the fraction of spawning female may vary depending on size groups. According with the IDI, the individuals with the highest contribution in reproductive process belong to sizes from 44 to 56 cm. Therefore, in order to guarantee the conservation of this species, it is imperative to mainly direct the management measures towards the females from these sizes.

Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (ScYLV) causes severe leaf symptoms in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.). It is a single-stranded RNA virus assigned to the genus Polerovirus, family Luteoviridae (1). ScYLV is transmitted by two aphid species, Melanaphis sacchari and Rhopalosiphum maidis. Although barley (Hordeum vulgare), oats (Avena sativa), and wheat (Triticum spp.) are susceptible to ScYLV when experimentally inoculated (3), this virus, related serologically to Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV)-RPV (4), has never been detected naturally in these cereals. In this study, 240 barley leaves were randomly collected from six fields in Tunisia following a north-south trend during the high infestation periods (March/April) in the 2013 growing season. Samples were tested by DAS-ELISA, using three antibodies (Bioreba AG, Switzerland), two of them, BYDV-B and BYDV-F, specific to luteoviruses corresponding to BYDV-PAV and BYDV-MAV, respectively, and the third one, BYDV-RPV, specific to the polerovirus synonymous to Cereal yellow dwarf virus (CYDV)-RPV. Based on DAS-ELISA, 30 samples were found positive for B/CYDV infection; 17 out of the 30 infected samples contained a single serotype, BYDV-PAV, and 13 out of the 30 infected samples contained two serotypes, PAV and RPV. Total RNA was extracted from all positive samples, and RT-PCR of the viral CP gene was performed with Lu1/Lu4 primers (2). A product of 531 bp was cloned and sequenced. The identities among the sequences determined varied between 80 to 100%, and from the 17 samples containing BYDV-PAV, six distinct BYDV-PAV sequences were revealed and named PAV-TN1 to PAV-TN6 (GenBank Accession No. JX402453 to JX402457 and KF271792). Fortuitously, all 13 positive samples corresponding to the serotypes PAV-RPV exhibited 98.7 to 99.3% identity with ScYLV isolates. These 13 samples contained three distinct sequences that were named ScYLV-Tun1 to ScYLV-Tun3 (GenBank Accession No. KF836888 to KF836890). Of the 17 PAV-positive samples collected, six were infected with PAV-TN1, four with PAV-TN2, four with PAV-TN3, one with PAV-TN4, one with PAV-TN5, and the last one with PAV-TN6. Of the 13 ScYLV-positive samples, seven were infected with ScYLV-Tun1, four with ScYLV-Tun2, and two with ScYLV-Tun3. Phylogenetic analysis showed that PAV-TN sequences formed a very tight cluster (>98%) corresponding to BYDV subspecies PAV-II, whereas all three Tunisian ScYLV sequences were clustered together. This study provides the first report of ScYLV isolates infecting barley crops in Tunisia, and confirms serological cross-reactivity between ScYLV and BYDV-RPV when commercial antibodies against BYDV-RPV are used. Total mercury (Hg) concentration was determined in the tissues of 10 pelagic fishes in the northern Gulf of Mexico, and dietary tracers (stable isotopes and fatty acids) were used to evaluate the relationship between Hg and feeding history. Highest Hg levels were observed in blue marlin (Makaira nigricans), carcharhinid sharks (Carcha rhinus spp.), and little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus), ranging from 1.08 to 10.52 ppm. Moderate to low concentrations (<1.0 ppm) were observed in blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus), cobia (Rachycentron canadum), dolphinfish (Cory phaena hippurus), greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili), king mackerel (Scomberomorus cavalla), wahoo (Acantho cybium solandri), and yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares). For the majority of species examined, Hg concentrations did not vary significantly between location (Texas vs. Louisiana) or collection period (2002 and 2003). Significant positive relationships between Hg concentration and body size and (or) weight were detected for 6 of the 10 taxa examined. Hg concentration was also positively associated with trophic position. Three natural associations were identified using stable isotope and fatty acid signatures. Still, no connection between these natural trophic associations and Hg concentration was observed, suggesting that Hg concentration in pelagic fishes was more closely linked to trophic position and size than feeding history.

We studied music majors’ perception of intonation in accompanied solo performances of trumpet, violin, and voice. We were interested in whether listeners would judge pitch deviations of equal magnitude in the three solo performances as equivalent in intonation. Participants were 150 graduate and undergraduate music majors drawn from two large music schools and included 50 students representing each of the following areas of applied music study: voice, wind instruments, and string instruments. Listeners heard solo trumpet, violin, and soprano performances of Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) accompanied by piano. Pitch performances of the soloists were altered in four sections of the excerpt and deviated in either the sharp or flat direction within a section by 0, 10, 20, and 30 cents relative to the accompaniment. Listeners judged pitch deviations in the flat direction as more out of tune for the trumpet than equivalent alterations of violin and voice, especially for magnitudes of 20 and 30 cents. In sharp direction changes, violin and trumpet were heard similarly and as more out of tune than the vocal soloist. Additionally, differences in pitch judgments were found between listener groups representing different areas of applied study.

The following autoethnographic duet by faculty advisor and professor creates a dramatic and evocative account of the personal and cultural experience about a disabled student teacher. They blend storytelling and music which fuses a theoretical analysis about storytelling and life. Although sociocultural issues draw deep reflection about the emotional turmoil, cultural influences of language and social interaction provide details that critique social structures. As musician becoming teacher is a passionate yet complex endeavor, the faculty advisor shares first-hand a poetic but painful story about a disabled teacher being inducted into the teaching profession. By making explicit the personal-cultural connection, they use the life-changing epiphany to critique cultural issues about teaching and disability. As the faculty advisor approaches the professor for advice, his musicianship shifts her forward, backward, and sideways through feelings that evoke, invoke, and provoke a curriculum that does not transfer knowledge from educational method classes. Instead, it embeds musical language as a metaphorical conduit to interrogate the pros, cons and both sides of the complicated issue of disability that influences the completion of his teaching practicum for his undergraduate bachelor of education degree. An epiphany from music and story reveals the irony of living in a culture of both uniformity and diversity. They explore the constructs of ideology, abnormality, marginalization, and secrecy. Thus, by blending story and music, the authors resolve a transformative autoethnographic aspect about the personal and cultural influences that provoke new deeper ways of thinking about curriculum.

Namun, Indonesia juga patut mengembangkan perikanan dan perdagangan spesies ini bagi kepentingan nasional.Southern blue fin tuna is a high priced fish which tends to have declining its population due to extensive fishing. The Indian Ocean is the species only habitat. Its spawning area is confined to the waters of southern coast of Bali and Lombok. The management conservation of the southern blue fin tuna is done by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Blue Fin Tuna, where Indonesia as one of the members. The membership consequence is that Indonesia should undertake conservative actions and mechanisms for the species. Indonesia may develop fishery and trading of the species for its own benefit and interest.

Products canned tuna was originally derived from the receipt of raw materials tuna, then do the grouping size of each type of fish, included cold storage, wash or do thawing, cutting or cutting, then cooked or cooking, done showering or fish cooling, after that is done pre cleaning and cleaning, do metal detecting, and subsequent filling of meat, charging medium, closing cans or seaming, sterilization, incubated (stored in warehouses), performed labeling and packaging, and finally collected into containers or stuffing.

Jenis-jenis alat tangkap ikan yang digunakan nelayan Indonesia di perairan SamuderaHindia antara lain pancing rawai tuna (tuna longline), pancing tangan (hand line), jaring insang hanyut (drift gillnet), dan jaring lingkar (purse seine). Adapun jenis jenis ikan yang tertangkap terdiri atas jenis-jenis ikan pelagis besar, pelagis kecil, dan demersal.

The Rockefeller Foundation's campaign against yellow fever in Mexico sought to advance the economic and political interests of U.S. capitalism. The campaign was implemented at a time of strong anti-American sentiments on the part of the Mexican people. With no diplomatic relationships between Mexico and the United States, the Rockefeller Foundation presented its campaign as an international commitment. Thus, Foundation doctors became the most salient U.S. diplomats. At the same time they made sure that the Mexican yellow fever would not spread to the United States through the southern border. The by-products of the campaign went beyond the political arena. Special techniques to combat the vectors allowed the Rockefeller Foundation's brigades to change the anti-American sentiments of the people. When the campaign ended, the Foundation had already set in place the foundation for the modern Mexican health care system. Benefits from the campaign also accrued to President Obregón, who used the campaign to strengthen his position of power. Mexican doctors adopting a pro-American attitude also allied with the Rockefeller Foundation to gain reputation and power within the emerging Mexican State.

A grade six/seven class which constructed and explored 3D shapes worlds with the VREAM program was compared with a grade five/six/seven control group which constructed and examined shapes from card nets. Students were tested on visualizing appearance of shapes from alternative viewpoints, recognition of shapes in the environment, and writing shape names, before and after the learning phase. Ease of using Virtual Reality (VR), and student engagement with VR were observed informally. VR had little impact on shape visualization and name writing, but strongly enhanced recognition. Students had no major difficulty in using the VREAM program, and enthusiasm for VR was unanimous and sustained.

A new, rechargeable, thick-film, polymer electrolyte, lithium battery using a high-energy density cathode material (vanadium pentoxide aerogel, 350 mAh/g) has been tested in a pulse-discharge mode of operation. Three separate 12 volt batteries were pulse-discharged through a piezoelectric stack actuator. Since motion rectification devices such as linear motors operate at elevated frequencies, the batteries were pulse-discharged at 10, 100, and 500 Hz. Multiple cycle, charge/discharge data is presented for the three batteries tested in this study. Additionally, a 6 volt battery was fabricated and used to power a piezoelectric actuator patch (chirp source) that was part of a damage detection system.

Thirty-six mentation reports (24 dream reports and 12 simulated dream reports) were provided by six subjects during experimental sessions. Dream reports were collected upon REM and Sleep Onset experimental awakenings. Artificial reports were obtained by asking the subject: “Try to invent a dream and tell me it as you go along.” To detect differences between the two types of reports, comparisons along seven structural dimensions were carried out. These dimensions included self-involvement, continuity, temporal attributes, implausibility, and three types of bizarreness. None of the analyses performed yielded significant results. Moreover, three groups of thirty judges each were unable to distinguish real from artificial reports at a rate greater than chance. Results are interpreted as supporting the hypothesis that cognitive processing involved in dream production is not unique to the sleeping state.

The problem in this study is the price of tuna exports, the amount of tuna production in the country and the exchange rate of the rupiah (exchange rate) affect the export volume of Indonesian tuna. This study aims to determine the effect of tuna export prices, the amount of tuna production in the country, the rupiah exchange rate (exchange rate) on the volume of Indonesian tuna exports. The results of the study simultaneously tuna export prices, the exchange rate (exchange rate) and the amount of tuna production significantly affect the export volume of Indonesian tuna.
