AbstractThe proposition that sheer labels or categories are important in people's reactions to the treatment of animals was supported by evidence from two sources. First, print archives showed that in the real world animals with a great deal in common such as (a) dolphins and tuna in the same nets; (b) cats and dogs, and pigs and goats in the same laboratories; and (c) native and feral species in the same parks are viewed or treated quite differently by humans. Second, original experiments were conducted wherein some hypothetical maltreatment of animals was held constant, but the animal label was varied over different respondents. Depending on the fictional maltreatment (hooking, shooting) and label (dog, cat, bird, fish, pig, goat) men and women respondents showed strong and systematic patterns of more or less tolerance for such treatment.

ObjectivesTo assess the prevalence of wheeze and factors associated with its severity among 3–6 years old children.MethodologyDesignA population-based, cross-sectional study using the WHO 30 cluster methodology with probability proportionate to size sampling.Setting36 preschools registered at the divisional secretariat offices of Anuradhapura district, Sri Lanka.ParticipantsWe recruited 1060 preschool children from 36 preschools aged 3–6 years.Main outcome measurementsWe used the International Study of Asthma and Allergy in Childhood questionnaire to assess the prevalence, symptomatology and associated factors of wheeze.ResultsThe study sample consisted of 548 (51.70%) male and 512 (48.30%) female children with a mean age of 4.41 (±0.66) years. At least one wheezing episode ever was reported in 323 (30.47%; 95% CI 27.71% to 33.34%) children and 247 (23.30%; 95% CI 20.79% to 25.97%) children had a wheezing attack in the preceding year. Severe episodes of wheezing were reported in 76 (7.17%; 95% CI 5.69% to 8.89%) participants. However, only 27 (35.53%; 95% CI 24.88% to 47.34%) children with severe wheezing had been diagnosed as asthmatics by a clinician. The identified independent risk factors for severe wheeze were allergic rhinitis (OR 6.90; 95% CI 3.84 to 12.40), domestic dog(s) (OR 2.34; 95% CI 1.01 to 5.40), frequent consumption of skipjack tuna (OR 1.94; 95% CI 1.11 to 3.39) and passive smoking (OR 1.70; 95% CI 0.93 to 3.11) while living in a house with a cement floor is a protective factor (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.21 to 0.80).ConclusionWheezing commonly affects one-fourth of preschool children in rural Sri Lanka. Severe wheezing is often not diagnosed as asthma despite frequent symptoms, probably due to hesitancy in labelling preschool children as asthmatics. Allergic rhinitis, domestic dogs, frequent consumption of Skipjack tuna fish and exposure to passive smoking were independent risk factors for severe wheeze.

The metabolic rates (V(dot)O2) of three tropical tunas [yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), kawakawa (Euthynnus affinis) and skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis)] were estimated using a large water-tunnel respirometer. Experiments lasting up to 31 h were used to determine the effects of velocity (U) on tuna V(dot)O2 over a range of U (17-150 cm s-1) and temperatures (18­30°C). Replicate tests were carried out on several fish. The swimming V(dot)O2 of yellowfin is temperature-dependent (Q10=1.67, determined over intervals of 3­5°C). For yellowfin and skipjack, it was also possible to partition metabolic costs between maintenance and locomotion. The standard metabolic rate (SV(dot)O2) was estimated by extrapolation of the U/V(dot)O2 function to U=0. Comparisons of SV(dot)O2 for different size groups of yellowfin show that the mass-specific scaling exponent for V(dot)O2 is -0.40. The SV(dot)O2 of tuna is comparable to values determined previously by stasis respirometry and is approximately three times higher than that of salmonids. Further comparisons with salmonids show that the slope of the U/V(dot)O2 function is less for tunas, which demonstrate a greater swimming efficiency.

Tunas (family Scombridae) maintain muscle temperatures (Tm) elevated significantly above ambient water temperature (Ta) by using vascular counter-current heat exchangers (retia mirabilia) to conserve metabolic heat generated by continuous contraction of red muscle fibers. Previous work has documented endothermy and both behavioral and physiological thermoregulation in tunas, but only individuals greater than approximately 1 kg body mass had been studied. The purpose of this study was to measure Tm and to examine heat exchanger morphology in smaller fish in order to determine the minimum size at which tunas can elevate Tm significantly above Ta. Measurements of Tm made immediately after capture in field-caught and laboratory-raised tunas (Euthynnus lineatus, Auxis thazard, A. rochei and Thunnus albacares) spanning a size range of 15.5­667 mm fork length (FL) show that tunas 207 mm FL (162.3 g) and larger can elevate red muscle temperature by at least 3.0°C above Ta. E. lineatus, A. thazard and A. rochei of this size possess blood vessels serving the red muscle that are arranged as both lateral and central heat exchangers; the smallest tuna with evidence of a rete was a 108.5 mm FL E. lineatus. In the ectothermic scombrid Scomberomorus sierra (108.7­132.0 mm FL), Tm was elevated 0.2­0.5°C above Ta, and the greatest Tm elevation reported in any ectothermic species is only 2.7°C. Taken together, these data provide evidence that tunas greater than 207 mm FL are endothermic.

The high cardiac output, arterial blood pressure and cardiac energy demand of tuna make it likely that blood viscosity has an important influence on cardiovascular function. Furthermore, tuna regularly subject themselves to ambient temperature changes of 10°C or more during their daily vertical migrations. They can also maintain muscle temperatures several degrees Celsius above ambient and reach maximum muscle temperatures of approximately 15°C above ambient. The blood of tuna is, therefore, subjected to more frequent and rapid temperature changes than those that occur in other teleosts. Nothing is known, however, about the effects of temperature, shear rate or hematocrit on the viscosity of tuna blood. Viscosity of yellowfin tuna blood (hematocrits of 0­55 %) was measured at 15, 25 and 35°C and at shear rates of 45, 90, 225 and 450 s-1 using a cone-plate viscometer. As found for the blood of other vertebrates, viscosity increased with increasing hematocrit. Viscosity also increased nonlinearly with decreasing shear rate, until a shear rate of 90 s-1 was reached. There was no significant increase in viscosity when shear rate was decreased further, to 45 s-1. Because of the relatively flat hematocrit­viscosity curves, predicted optimal hematocrit curves were nearly flat above a hematocrit of approximately 30 %.

Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) Yayasan Rehabilitasi Tuna Rungu Wicara (YRTRW) Surakarta adalah sebuah sekolah dasar untuk pendidikan anak dengan keterbatasan berupa tuna rungu wicara. Berdasarkan observasi serta wawancara yang telah dilakukan, terdapat permasalahan di Sekolah tersebut, yaitu mengenai media pembelajaran maupun alat bantu yang masih sangat minim, terutama khusus untuk siswa tuna rungu wicara pada pembelajaran sholat. Pada saat ini, pembelajaran hanya 1 arah dari guru ke murid dengan bahasa isyarat serta alat bantu berupa buku dan papan tulis. Solusi yang dapat diberikan adalah dengan sebuah aplikasi bernama ABAS (Ayo Belajar Sholat), yaitu aplikasi game pembelajaran untuk sholat khusus bagi anak-anak tuna rungu wicara. Aplikasi ini memberikan pengajaran mengenai tata cara sholat beserta dengan bacaan-bacaan doa dalam bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Arab serta bahasa isyarat. Metode yang digunakan terbagi menjadi beberapa tahap, yaitu analisis permasalahan, perancangan aplikasi, implementasi aplikasi, pemaparan, simulasi dan pengujian, serta maintenance dan follow up. Berdasarkan kuesioner yang diberikan, aplikasi ABAS dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran yang memudahkan siswa untuk belajar gerakan dan bacaan sholat.

Lipase hydrolysis is an effective method to develop different functional types of lipids. In this study, tuna oil was partially hydrolyzed at 30% and 60% by Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase (TL 100 L) and Candida Antarctica lipase A (ADL), respectively, to obtain lipid-modified acylglycerols. The lipidomic profiling of the acylglycerols was investigated by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and GC–MS to clarify the lipid modification effect of these two lipases on tuna oil. The results showed that 247 kinds of acylglycerols and 23 kinds of fatty acids were identified in the five samples. In the ADL group, the content of triacylglycerols (TAG) and diacylglycerols (DAG) increased by 4.93% and 114.38%, respectively, with an increase in the hydrolysis degree (HD), while there was a decreasing trend in the TL 100 L group. TL 100 L had a better enrichment effect on DHA, while ADL was more inclined to enrich EPA and hydrolyze saturated fatty acids. Cluster analysis showed that the lipids obtained by the hydrolysis of TL 100 L and ADL were significantly different in the cluster analysis of TAG, DAG, and monoacylglycerols (MAG). TL 100 L has strong TAG selectivity and a strong ability to hydrolyze acylglycerols, while ADL has the potential to synthesize functional lipids containing omega-3 PUFAs, especially DAG.

An eight-months-old male Golden Retriever was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospitalof IPB University with clinical signs of non-ambulatory paraplegia, tail paralysis, urinary and faecal incontinence, pale mucosa, and loss of sensory and motoric responses on both pelvic limbs. The hematology examination showed thrombocytopenia (125x103/µL), monocytopenia (0.09x103/µL),and no significant decreased of hematocrit (36.88%). Rapid diagnostic test and blood smears were positive for Ehrlichiacanis infection. Abdominalsonogram showed splenomegaly and hepatomegaly with hepatic vessels dilatation. An integrative therapy was done using medications (vitamin B-complex, cyproheptadine, methylprednisolone, doxycycline, and Fundamin E®), herbal (Gui Pi Tang® and Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang®), acupuncture, micro-radar, and Tuina massage. The dog was able to walk and run after 10th session of the intensivetreatment then discharged from the hospital after two months. One week after, the dog started dragging his toe. A customized shoe then made to prevent furtherinjury to the affected limb. The acupuncture was continued once a week for the following two months. The dog is still able to walk and run at his last visit 5 months later. This shows that an integrative therapycan give a good performance in recovering ambulation of paraplegia dog with ehrlichiosis

In this thesis we study the conjecture of Tuza, which relates covering of triangles (by edges) with packing of edge-disjoint triangles in graphs. In 1981, Tuza conjectured that for any graph, the maximum number of edge-disjoint triangles is at most twice the size of a minimum cover of triangles by edges. The general case of the conjecture remains open. However, several attempts to prove it appeared in the literature, which contain results for several classes of graphs. In this thesis, we present the main known results for the conjecture of Tuza. Currently, there are several versions of Tuza’s conjecture. Nevertheless, we emphasize that our focus is on conjecture applied to simple graphs. We also present a conjecture that, if verified, implies the validity of the conjecture of Tuza. We also show that if G is a mininum counterexample to the conjecture of Tuza, then G is 4-connected. We can deduce from this result that the conjecture of Tuza is valid for graphs with no K5 minor.
Neste trabalho estudamos a conjectura de Tuza, que relaciona cobertura mínima de triângulos por arestas com empacotamento máximo de triângulos aresta-disjuntos em grafos. Em 1981, Tuza conjecturou que para todo grafo, o número máximo de triângulos aresta-disjuntos é no máximo duas vezes o tamanho de uma cobertura mínima de triângulos por arestas. O caso geral da conjectura continua aberta. Contudo, diversas tentativas de prová-la surgiram na literatura, obtendo resultados para várias classes de grafos. Nesta dissertação¸ nós apresentamos os principais resultados obtidos da conjectura de Tuza. Atualmente, existem várias versões da conjectura. Contudo, ressaltamos que nosso foco está na conjectura aplicada a grafos simples. Apresentamos também uma conjectura que se verificada, implica na veracidade da conjectura de Tuza. Nowadays consumers have become more and more socially conscious because of the rising concern about social and environmental issues. In this context, large scale companies are one of the main actors which are required to increase their efforts. They have increased the amount of charity actions or philanthropic collaboration in the latest years but both have shown limited effects and benefits especially on the long-term. This research is treating a new kind of partnership between large scale companies and social enterprises which is based on a true business approach with a long-term strategy. This new type of partnership requires a higher effort for its sustainability on the long-term and there was a gap in the literature when it comes to that point and it is this gap that this research aims to fill. The research was conducted through the analysis of a case study about the partnership between IKEA and Doi Tung, a social enterprise based in Thailand. Through semi-structured interviews conducted with both parts, it was possible to point out the challenges faced by large scale companies and social enterprises during their partnership but also to highlight four keys aspects which ensure the sustainability of this type of partnership; partnership selection and preparation, partnership driver, partnership nature, and partnership adaptation. The research contributes to the knowledge in the area of entrepreneurship and practical knowledge on the corporate-social enterprise partnership.

As novas biotécnicas são ferramentas inovadoras no estudo da fisiologia da reprodução de cães, bem como na preservação do material genético de espécies ameaçadas de extinção. Tendo em vista, pois, a relevância de tais ferramentas, emprestou-se a este estudo o objetivo maior de avaliar os efeitos do 17-ß estradiol, progesterona e do co-cultivo em células da tuba uterina na maturação in vitro de oócitos de cães. Ovários de cadelas em anestro foram fatiados em PBS com 10% SFB. Os oócitos foram selecionados e divididos em 8 grupos: grupo 1 (sem suplementação hormonal), grupo 2 (20 µg/ml de 17-ß estradiol), grupo 3 (20 µg/ml de progesterona), grupo 4 (20 µg/ml de 17-ß estradiol e 20 µg/ml de progesterona), grupo 5 (co-cultivo em células da tuba uterina sem suplementação hormonal), grupo 6 (co-cultivo em células da tuba uterina + 20 mg/ml de 17-ß estradiol), grupo 7 (co-cultivo em células da tuba uterina + 20 µg/ml de progesterona) e grupo 8 (co-cultivo em células da tuba uterina + 20 µg/ml de 17-ß estradiol + 20 µg/ml de progesterona). O cultivo das células da tuba uterina foi realizado por no mínimo 48 horas previamente à adição dos oócitos. Para a maturação, utilizou-se TCM 199 suplementado com 2,5 µg/ml de FSH e 5 µg/ml de LH. Decorridas 48, 72 e 96 horas em estufa a 39ºC, 5% de CO2 em ar e alta umidade, os oócitos foram fixados em paraformaldeído a 4% com Triton 10X e corados com Hoescht 33342 (10 µg/ml) em glicerol. O estágio de maturação nuclear (vesícula germinativa - VG, quebra da vesícula germinativa – QVG, metáfase I – MI, metáfase II – MII, degenerados ou não passíveis de determinação) foi avaliado em microscópio invertido equipado com luz ultravioleta e filtro de 365-420 de excitação/emissão. Os dados foram analisados mediante o PROC NPAR1WAY de análise de variância não paramétrica, sendo o efeito dos tratamentos verificado por meio do teste de Kruskal-Wallis, e as comparações múltiplas do teste de Wilcoxon com os tratamentos comparados dois a dois, considerando as diferenças significativas quando p<0,05. Verificou-se influência positiva da suplementação hormonal no desenvolvimento oocitário in vitro, particularmente com referência à adição de progesterona, associada ou não ao estrógeno. Não houve influência significativa do co-cultivo de células da tuba uterina na maturação oocitária em comparação aos meios de cultivo, sem presença de células epiteliais da tuba uterina, suplementados com hormônios esteróides. Conquanto sem significância estatística, verificou-se tendência de os oócitos, obtidos de cadelas em anestro, desenvolverem-se ao estágio de metáfase II após o período de maturação de 96 horas. Demonstrou-se, portanto, ser plenamente exeqüível o estudo da maturação de oócitos de cães em sistemas de cultivo in vitro a partir de ovários obtidos por ovário-histerectomia, tal estudo propicia, ademais, a pesquisa de características reprodutivas fisiológicas da espécie.
Recent biotechniques are innovative tools for the canine reproductive physiology research, as well as for assisted reproduction of endangered species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of estradiol-17ß, progesterone and the co-culture with oviductal ephitelial cells on in vitro maturation. Ovaries from anestrous bitches were sliced in PBS with 10% FCS. Oocytes were selected and distributed in 8 groups: group 1 (no hormonal suplementation), group 2 (estradiol-17ß at 20 µg/ml), group 3 (progesterone at 20 µg/ml), group 4 (estradiol-17ß at 20 µg/ml + progesterone at 20 µg/ml), group 5 (co-culture in oviductal ephitelial cells without hormonal suplementation), group 6 (co-culture in oviductal ephitelial cells + estradiol-17ß at 20 µg/ml), group 7 (co-culture with oviductal ephitelial cells + progesterone at 20 µg/ml) and group 8 (co-culture with oviductal ephitelial cells + estradiol-17ß at 20 µg/ml + progesterone at 20 µg/ml). Oviductal ephitelial cells culture was performed at least 48 hours prior to oocyte co-culture. For in vitro maturation, TCM 199 supplemented with FSH (2.5 µg/ml) and LH (5 µg/ml) was utilized. After periods of 48, 72 and 96 hour at 39ºC in humidified atmosphere of 5% CO2 in air, oocytes were fixed with Triton-X10 in paraformaldehyde at 4% and and stained with Hoescht 33342 (10 µg/ml) in glycerol. Oocytes were examined through an inverted fluorescence microscope equipped with a 365-420 nm wavelength excitation/emisson filter. Nuclear maturation was classified according to chromatin configuration as: germinal vesicle stage (GV), germinal vesicle break down (GVBD), metaphase I (MI), metaphase II (MII) and degenerated and unidentifiable oocytes. Data was evaluated through PROC NPAR1WAY of non parametrical variance analysis and treatment was verified by the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Wilcoxon test for multiple comparisions. Differences were considered significant at p<0.05. Positive influence of hormonal supplementation for oocyte development rates was verified, particularly with respec to progesterone. No significant influence of oviductal cells co-culture was however verified. In addition, a tendency of the oocytes reaching metaphase II in the 96 hour period was observed. Therefore, the study of canine in vitro oocyte maturation is feasible and provides an important tool for reproductive physiology research.

As the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) collapsed, two outstanding novels were authored, Supplement to the Journey to the West (Hsi-yu Pu) and Prayer Mat of Flesh (Jou P'u T'uan). Although modern critics have studied these two works, important aspects of each novel have been overlooked. Therefore, this study explores three elements of Jou P'u T'uan: the novel as a picaresque novel, the hero's character consistency, and the book's morality. Also examined are the Ch'an Buddhist aspects present in Hsi-yu Pu. Information on the authors, editions, and controversies of these novels has also been presented. An initial chapter is provided discussing the historical and intellectual background. Finally, a comparative study of the two authors and their works has been undertaken to further understanding of both novels. Thus, it is hoped that this work has made a valuable contribution to the study of these two novels.

A diagrammatic approach offers a schematic vocabulary that can compress time and offer a spatial reading of information. Situated within the contemporary field of direct data visualisation, my practice-led research interprets Berger’s ‘Field’ essay as a guide to producing four field | studies within a suburban park in Canberra. My seasonal investigations demonstrate how applying the conventions of the pictorial list, dot-distribution map, routing diagram and colour-wheel reveals subtle ecological and biographical narratives.

Abstract A common view of the kung-an, implied in much of the literature on Ch’an available in English, is that its use is the special domain of the Lin-chi (J. Rinzai) tradition, in which kung-an were, and still are, used in the active pursuit of enlightenment. Along with this view is the depiction of the Ts’ao-tung (J. Soto) tradition as being rather passive while neglecting, or at least putting less emphasis on, the study of kung-an, instead pursuing a gradual approach enlightenment through long hours of meditation. These distinctions are furthermore understood to characterize the Lin-chi and Ts’ao-tung traditions from their very inceptions in China.

Varese explained that as the composer, his only control of the music would be choosing who was to play when, and for how long. He wanted us to improvise freely within the time parameters he would give us. He said he had chosen jazz musicians because he felt that classically trained musicians weren’ t “free enough.” Varese pulled out a stopwatch and a notepad that contained his composition. He announced something like this: “First, the string bass and the trombone will play together for eighteen seconds. Then the trumpet and the tuba play for fifteen seconds. Abstract There are perhaps 3000 species and subspecies of fleas, belonging to about 200 genera in 15 families, but fortunately very few are of medical or veterinary importance. Some 95 per cent of all species feed on mammals, the others attacking birds and even lizards. Fleas irritate the host when they take their blood feeds and they may stimulate serious hypersensitivity reactions, but their prime importance is in the transmission of various diseases to man and animals. Medically, the key species are Xenopsylla cheopis, which transmits plague and murine typhus, Ctenocephalides spp., the dog and cat fleas, which may transmit certain tapeworms to man, and the sand flea or chigoe, Tunga penetrans, which buries itself in the skin of the toe or foot, causing boil-like lesions.

The optical absorption spectrum of a nonuniform semiconductor quantum dot system is calculated. The effect of dot size deviation on the resolvability of the absorption peaks is estimated. The dots are assumed cubic with a size distribution described by a Gaussian function. The results show that the linewidth of each absorption peak is proportional to the ratio of the standard deviation of the dot size to the average dot size of the system ξ. As ξ increases, the line broadening causes overlap between nearby absorption peaks. The high-energy absorption peaks start overlapping first followed by the overlap of the low-energy absorption peaks. The calculated total absorption spectra, including both heavy hole transitions and light hole transitions, for GaAs quantum dot systems with ξ = 0.02, 0.05, and 0.10 are presented. It is shown that when ξ = 0.02 or less, the absorption peaks up to the fourth lowest level are separate; when ξ = 0.10 only the lowest heavy hole transition peak is resolvable.

Material e métodos: Revisão de literatura, utilizando bases de dados como Google Acadêmico e Scielo, além livros e atlas relacionados ao assunto abordado. Resultados: A bolsa gutural é um local com alta propensão para o desenvolvimento de doenças do trato respiratório superior, como timpanismo, empiema e micoses fúngicas. O empiema é caracterizado pelo acúmulo de material purulento emuma ou em ambas as bolsas; a micose é a infecção fúngica da parede da bolsa; e o timpanismo se refere à distensão gasosa da bolsa. As bolsas guturais encontram-se na parte caudal da cabeça do equino, margeando o colo, elas ficam ventrais ao crânio e dorsa is à faringe e ao esôfago. Outras relações anatômicas incluem diversos nervos e artérias craniais que se localizam diretamente contra a bolsa. As particularidades da bolsa gutural, assim como as afecções que a acometem, são diretamente ligadas às várias es truturas importantes que a cercam, incluindo faringe, laringe, esôfago, glândulas salivares parótidas e mandibulares e linfonodos retrofaríngeos. O timpanismo possivelmente ocorre no movimento de deglutição quando, durante a entrada e saída do ar, acontece uma disfunção do óstio-cartilaginoso que dá acesso às bolsas. O empiema pode ser desencadeado por processos de estruturas vizinhas, a exemplo de faringites, abscessos retrofaríngeos, sequela do garrotilho ou infecções crônicas no linfonodo retrofaríngeo. A micose da bolsa gutural, bastante comum em equinos, é consequência da erosão da artéria carótida interna, da artéria carótida externa ou das paredes das artérias maxilares, provocada por fungos. Conclusão: A fisiopatogenia das afecções do divertículo da tuba auditiva está diretamente relacionada às estruturas anatômicas que a circundam, devido a sua proximidade com elas. Por este motivo, os danos sofridos afetam com muita frequência a mastigação, deglutição e respiração dos equinos.

La economía de Nororiente continuó en el primer trimestre de 2023 con un incremento anual; no obstante, se observó un menor ritmo frente a trimestres previos dada la moderación en la demanda interna. La industria lideró el crecimiento asociado a mayor producción de refinados de petróleo y a otros productos de transcendencia regional. La actividad agrícola estuvo favorecida por un mejor inicio de cosechas, al tiempo que la pecuaria evidenció resultados heterogéneos por mayores costos de insumos y desaceleración en el consumo. En la construcción, crecieron el área causada y en proceso, mientras que indicadores adelantados, como por ejemplo metraje aprobado y vivienda nueva, mostraron un acentuado descenso. La tasa de desempleo disminuyó en Tunja, contrario a Bucaramanga y Cúcuta que registraron incrementos anuales. Finalmente, la inflación continuó en dos dígitos en las tres ciudades capitales de Nororiente.

While laboratory-scale studies of single-phase flow have resulted in good correlations for the design of large-diameter pipeline systems, similar approaches for two-phase flow have not been as useful. Although theoretical modeling and simulation of single-phase turbulent flow has not yet been accomplished, empirical observation of many small-scale examples has lead to effective correlations through dimensional analysis. These correlations for a single-phase often do scale-up adequately for design of pipelines. However, when an additional phase is present, this approach has not worked well. It is likely that a better understanding of the fundamental interaction of two-turbulent phases will be necessary if small-scale studies are to be used for the design of large, high-pressure pipeline systems. A more immediate way of gaining some knowledge of two-phase flow in large diameter pipes of the complexity present in the field is to over-design a pipeline system and construct it, field tune it to specifications, then observe its behavior. This is obviously a risky and expensive approach. However, many such systems have been constructed. It is on these successful two-phase pipeline systems that our attention should be focused in the immediate future if we are to improve two-phase pipeline design now of new but similar systems. Such is the focus of this study of the Hovenweep CO2 Gathering System. The Hovenweep CO2 Gathering System was selected for study as a pipeline system that could add to the knowledge of the nature of steady-state two-phase flow in large diameter high pressure pipeline systems with hilly terrain. Characterization includes measurement of the following variables: 1. gas and liquid flow rates; 2. typical gas and liquid compositions; 3. liquid volume fractions; 4. pressure drop across each test segment; 5. temperature.
