Over time, tourism has become an industry that has a visible impact on the overall development of the society. This study examines the impact of perceived risks on different types of tourists classified on the basis of travel motives and would help develop a variety of risk-reducing phenomena and paraphernalia to supply to the traveller. Based on a survey conducted among tourists visiting a tourist destination, the study explores the differences in risk perception among different tourist types. The study uses a self-designed scale on type of risks against the ITR scale that classifies travellers into three types based on their travel motives. Findings supported two types of tourist classification against the three types in the existing ITR scale. Findings further revealed that there is a significant difference in the risk perception of the two types of tourists based on their travel motives in case of satisfaction risk, exhaustion risk and psychological risk.

The article discusses the growth prospects of tourist flow in Krasnoyarsk, by means of the transformation of city´s transit destination into independent tourist site due to the holding there XXIX International winter Universiade 2019. Ensuring the growth of tourist flow by means of tourism conversion of the main participants in sports events, i.e. the transformation of a latent and potential consumers of tourism services into tourists, actualizes the problem of development of city tourist potential. Desk research has revealed the interest in sight-seeing tours in their free time. If the sportsmen will get the satisfaction from excursions and tours across Krasnoyarsk, they will desire to revisit the city as a tourist and recommend this city to friends and family as a tourist object. The technology of assessment of the city’s tourism potential and innovation of urban tourism are the subject of the study. Within the estimation of use of Krasnoyarsk‘s tourist potential a comparative analysis of the city image before and after the organized and unorganized trekking tourism has been conducted, which allowed to identify the problem of accurate positioning of Krasnoyarsk as a tourist destination. Comparative analysis of offers tourism products of Krasnoyarsk and demand in them revealed the problem of low level knowledge of tourism products, but also allowed to establish the fact that tourist resources exceed city’s touristic potential. The practical problem of the growth of Krasnoyarsk’s tourist potential through innovation caused the need for solution of theoretical problems, in particular, clarifying the classification of cultural tourism. Monitoring the development of new forms of cultural products, the cultural space in particular, has shown promise for their development as tourist attractions. Functional analysis of new types of cultural products in Krasnoyarsk such as cultural space "Kamenka" and the historic quarter are subject to urban cultural tourism, enhancing the city’s tourist potential. Thus the development of the innovation in cultural tourism will lead to the expansion of the offer of new tourist attractions of Krasnoyarsk and will make it an independent tourist destination.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to discuss prevalent socio-psychological models which examine how tourists’ needs and motivations affect their destination choices by collectively considering Plog’s (1974) psychographic profiles, Cohen’s (1979) tourist typology and Peace’s (1988) travel career ladder. The current study argues that no single model can adequately explain tourists’ destination selection process as well as travel behaviors and introduces a new integrated perspective of existing psychological models. Design/methodology/approach Examining responses from 202 Hong Kong residents who have travel experience, this study divides the respondents’ psychographics into three types. Findings Using multinomial logit model (MNL) analysis, the study finds that tourists’ travel motivations and destination settings can be varied by their psychographics types. The findings also reveal that tourist’s psychographic types can be varied by demographics, travel type, frequencies, duration, purpose and destination setting. Originality/value The study provides implications for tourism marketers as well as the tourism literature by suggesting an integrative approach for a better understanding of tourist motivations.

Abstract Tourist maps are one of the most common groups of cartographic documents. Their variety in terms of content, subject matter and publication titles is a result of growing popularity of diverse forms of tourism activity. The aim of the authors of this article is to demonstrate issues related to tourist maps, including their variety in relation to contemporary forms of tourism. As tourist maps are constantly developing, the authors decided to propose a classification of tourist maps which is adequate from the point of view of the types of maps we currently distinguish. Taking into consideration the aim and type of tourism, the maps were divided into the following sub-groups: maps for sightseeing tourism, qualified tourism, and other tourism, as well as tourist city maps, and maps prepared for promotion and advertising of tourism. The first there categories were further divided into more detailed sub-categories and each of them was described briefly in terms of its content. The classification of maps based on their scales and form of content presentation was also included. The authors attempted also to define the concept of “tourist map” itself. The authors defined it as a geographic representation of an area presented on a plane, in accordance with specific mathematical rules, which should include topographic contents, information about tourist attractions of a given area, its tourist and complementary infrastructure, presented with the help of conventional signs, in a matter appropriate for the scale of the map and its intended use. Contributing to the discussion on the place of tourist map in the general classification of maps, the article distinguishes not only general-geographic maps and thematic maps, but also orientation and navigation maps. This terms covered tourist maps, road maps, and navigation maps: sailing, sea, aerial and city maps. They consist a group of maps in which the functions they play determine their informational content and their form of cartographic presentation. However, unlike on thematic maps, where the general geographic content is merely a background for presentation of the theme-related phenomena, the geographic content is essential in case of tourist maps. It is precisely the general geographic content which is primarily responsible for communicating information which is meant to be used for orientation and navigation purposes.

Annotation:
Energy use associated with tourism has rarely been studied, despite a potentially considerable contribution to global or national energy demand and concomitant greenhouse gas emissions. In New Zealand, tourism constitutes an increasingly important economic sector that is supported by the Government to induce further economic growth. At the same time New Zealand is facing the challenge of reducing currently increasing fossil fuel combustion and carbon dioxide emissions. As a response, this study investigated the contribution tourism makes to energy use in New Zealand. In particular it has examined the role of the three main tourism subsectors (transport, accommodation, and attractions/activities), and different domestic and international 'tourist types'. Seven separate data analyses provided inputs for building a model based on 'tourist types' from which energy use in the New Zealand tourism sector could be estimated. Tourism was found to contribute at least 5.6% to national energy demand, which is larger than its 4.9% contribution to GDP in 2000. Transport, in particular domestic air and car travel, was identified as the dominant energy consumer. Within the accommodation sub-sector, hotels are the largest energy consumers, both in total and on a per visitor-night basis. Of the three sub-sectors, attractions and activities contribute least to energy use, however, activities such as scenic flights or boat cruises were recognised as being energy intensive. As a result of larger visitor volumes, domestic tourists contribute more to energy consumption than international tourists. Domestic and international tourists types differ in their energy consumption patterns, for example measured as energy use per travel day. Tourist types that rely on air travel are the most energy intensive ones, for example the domestic 'long air business' travellers or the international 'coach tourists'. The importance of international tourists' energy use will increase, given current growth rates. There are many options to decrease energy use of the tourism sector, with the most effective ones being within the energy intensive transport sub-sector. Increasing vehicle efficiencies and decreasing travel distances appear to be the most promising measures. This study argues that energy use depends largely on tourists' travel behaviour. Changing behaviour is possible but is postulated to be very difficult, and further research is needed to better understand tourists' motivations, expectations and decision-making. Only then, can strategies be developed and implemented to alter travel behaviours to better balance energy use, other environmental impacts and economic yield. Such a balance is a crucial consideration in the search for more sustainable forms of tourism.

Beginning from the townships foundation, we proceeded in search of understanding the relationships that configure history, spatial distribution and in which manner it emerges and is part of our current reality. We continued the investigation to view the possible paths of tourist activity and warn of potential predatory tourism. In order to reason about the possibilities and how the appropriation of space for tourism and tourism in the township itself, we learned to know and understand how this territory has developed. Both socioeconomic and environmental aspects were chosen to promote an understanding of how tourism elected Santo Antônio do Pinhal. From the analysis of selected variables and attributes, coupled with the chosen theoretical and methodological fundaments, we traced the goal in this study. We outlined a presentation of analytical and supportive maps for the research and cartographic treatment of the study area. This enabled us to draw up a map of synthesis, specifically of the types of landscape that could, through critical viewing, subsidize a preliminary proposal of tourist zoning for the township, based on an approach of thematic cartography. The present study allowed a connection capable of linking geography, cartography and tourism, permitting the formation of a structure of data and information that guided the research, to achieve our goal.

In 2000, Hong Kong had a major educational reform, which aimed to address the inadequacies of the previous education system in order to enable the majority of Hong Kong’s population to achieve lifelong learning and an all-round education. These are also the overall aims of education in Hong Kong for the 21st century. A new education structure and new curricula for primary and secondary schools were some of the focuses of the reform. The tourism and hotel industry is one of the four pillar industries in Hong Kong. As a growing service industry, it relies heavily on the quality of their employees and the stability of manpower. However, this industry has been facing difficulties in recruiting and retaining qualified employees. Many studies have been conducted to discover the ideal employability competency and to develop strategies to attract and retain the right employees. Through the study of employability theories and in-depth interviews with education practitioners in the tourism and hotel industry, this research study links-up two knowledge areas of employability competency for the tourism and hotel industry and the generic competency development in primary and secondary school education in Hong Kong. The results reveal that previous studies have not resolved human capital problems, because these problems are rooted in the incompetence in generic skills, values and attitudes of individuals. This study highlights the foundational role of generic competency in employability. It proposes that a generic competency, which has to be nurtured from a young age, is essential for employability. The findings inspired an extended concept of employability and contributed to a new generic competency structure. For primary and secondary school education, this study proposes the incorporation of a refined generic competency component in the school curriculum, along with strategies to mitigate possible barriers of implementation. The proposed employability structure can also be used by employment consultation services or serve as a recruitment, training, development and retention guide in the tourism and hotel industry. These proposals could nurture new generations with the required employability competency for the tourism and hotel industry, meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Cartography and tourism have in common the geographic space as an object of study. In summary, covering the elements and aspects existing in the natural and social landscapes. Developing tourism demands the social organization, provision in infrastructure and the use of financial resources to increment the tourism activity. To attend this requirement multiple methods and studies are applied, among them, the cartographic science. The information contained in the maps allow tourists and managers an overview of the geographical space consumed by tourism, since the process of research, projects, design, marketing, evaluation and even effecting a possible territorial reorganization. Especially in planning tasks, thematic mapping, observed by graphic representation, is a very useful instrument in many conceptions of tourism activities. Maps specific for tourism should apply the Graphic Semiology and avoid interference in communication. In this work, tourism was studied as a major point in the production of space in São Luiz do Paraitinga. Data, demographic, economic and infrastructure information were examined, focusing on cultural heritage. Also, the role of tourism in rural and natural areas development was analyzed. From this survey, coupled with the theoretical foundation attributed to thematic cartography and tourism, a set of relevant analytical maps of the study area was made. Overlapping and grouping these maps enabled the creation of a synthesis map, delimited and identified by the types of landscape. Thus, through critical viewing, was possible to identify the characteristics of areas appropriated for tourism and to underwrite a preliminary proposal for tourism zoning, with the aim of contributing to the enjoyment and tourism planning in the county.

Role play is commonly regarded as a useful activity for developing oral skills (Livingstone 1983; Maley 1987; Magos and Politi 2008) however, little research has been conducted on different types of role-play and on its use in EOP contexts, which is what the present study seeks to redress. This study reports on research investigating the effectiveness of two types of role-play, SSRP (Semi-scripted Role-play) and SSRP-NSRP (Semi-scripted Role-play followed by Nonscripted Role-play), in the teaching of Tourism English at a university in Korea. The study used an action research approach (Kemmis and McTaggart 1988) with the aim to improve Tourism English learners' oral skills.- Second -year students from different years participated in-Studies -I and II. In Study I students practised SSRP, while in Study II they engaged in SSRP-NSRP.

The abstract has been processed with OCR optical text recognition technology:The Danube basin in Vojvodina includes the stream of the Danube which flows through the territory of Vojvodina together with the wider area that spreads out immediately from the river bank. This part of Vojvodina is characterized by a high level of urbanization. The research has shown that the studied area contains natural and anthropogenic potentials which are very attractive from the touristic point of view.In terms of the natural values of the area, it is the Danube that stands out as a river of international importance with its hydrogeographic properties and specific river stream - the abundance of backwater channels and meanders - in the so-called Pannonian sector.Outstanding touristic values can also be attributed to the biogeographical properties of the area, which is full of particular species of flora and fauna. Considering the properties of natural attractions, we can talk about the possibilities for the development of diverse tourist migrations - from the nautical, recreational and ecotounsm to hunting, fishing and other forms of tourist activities.Within the anthropogenic potentials of the area, the greatest tounstic value should be ascribed to various events, many of which are internationally important. The folkloric heritage contained in the hallmarks typical of Vojvodina - national costume, music, and architecture - also represents another touristic value. The old city centres are characterized by specific architecture and usually have special ambience, therefore representing attractive touristic value of urban tourism. The Danube basin in Vojvodina can be comprised in contemporary touristic trends because of its diverse and numerous touristic values and with the proper development of the material base it will certainly find its place in domestic and international tourist markets.

Northern Albania, the "land of the pomegranates", is a region where culture and nature are intimately bound up. This hypertext is proposed as an innovative tool of scientific divulgation for the valorisation of this precious and little-known territory, while also lending itself to various types of exploitation for tourist purposes. The itineraries, which radiate outwards from the city of Scutari, are presented through synthetic factsheets, composed using a simple and immediate language, and deriving from direct observation. Precisely because of its multiple functions, the hypertext has been organised at a number of levels: from simple description to historic and literary references or the reports of travellers, through to the detailing of the tourist resources available.

AbstractIn the future, artificial intelligence (AI) is likely to substantially change both the tourism industry and tourist behavior. At present, research on artificial intelligence and tourism is receiving widespread attention, but most of them focus on a certain subject or a specific aspect of the tourism industry. For example, artificial intelligence influences the behavior of tourists and tourism enterprises. The analysis of the impact of artificial intelligence on the tourism industry as a system is still insufficient. Therefore, this research proposes a multi-dimensional framework from an industry perspective based on the existing definition of artificial intelligence. The framework involves three aspects: the level of intelligence, task types, and whether artificial intelligence is embedded in robots. The authors use a large number of Chinese practice cases to investigate how AI affects the tourism industry, then put forward a research agenda to analyze how destination government, tourism enterprises and tourist experience will change in the future. Finally, they highlight important issues related to privacy, prejudice and ethics.

Every tourist website employs images to attract potential tourists. In particular, destination tourism websites use environmental images, such as landscapes, to attract the attention of tourists and to address their purchase choice. Nowadays the effectiveness of these tools has been enhanced by the use of eye-tracking technology. That allows measuring the exact eye position during the visualization of images, texts, or other visual stimuli. Consequently, eye-tracking data can be processed to obtain quantitative measures of viewing behavior that can be analyzed for several purposes in many fields such as to cluster consumers, to improve the effectiveness of a website and for neuroscience studies. This work is aimed to use eye-tracking technology to investigate user behavior according to different types of images (e.g. natural landscapes, city landscapes). Specifically, we compare different statistical descriptive tools with supervised and unsupervised models. Furthermore, we discuss the effectiveness of their results and their capacity to provide satisfactory and interpretable solutions that can be used by decision-makers.

Abstract“What if, when they ask ‘Alexa, where can I do something here tonight?’, travellers no longer receive the answer ‘I don’t know’? And, could start-ups use all tourist data freely and without restriction to develop innovative applications for travellers at any time?” (“German National Tourist Board”, n.d.). These and similar questions are currently being asked by those responsible for tourism marketing and product development, such as destination management organisations (DMO: “Public or public–private entity whose aim is to foster, plan and coordinate the tourism development of a destination as a whole”.) (“IGI Global”, n.d.) in Germany. In particular, the travel destination Thuringia sees itself as a pioneer on topics such as AI, decentralised data structures and new types of interactions: “We were looking for a way to make the data of Thuringian tourism up-to-date, findable and freely usable and thus provide the path for open innovation and new technologies.” (Detlef Klinge, Thüringer Tourismus GmbH retrieved from “German National Tourist Board”, n.d.). To meet these challenges, the DMO relies on the processing of open data in a tourist content architecture and on entrepreneurial management methods such as the hackathon. This method, in turn, must be embedded in a holistic management approach; otherwise, creative results will be lost even before they come to the market. The question is how these technologies and management methods must be implemented in DMOs so that they generate sustainable competitive advantages and customer benefits for the respective travel destination.

AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has led the tourist industry to a standstill. It also creates the potential to change both the global tourism industry and the context in which innovation management takes place in the medium to long term. The web-based open innovation approach provides one of the possibilities to uncover technical opportunities in the context of rapidly changing environment. This article takes a qualitative approach to explore the benefits of open innovation approach for destination management organizations (DMOs). The analysis of 15 semi-structured interviews reveals nine specific benefits that arise from the three types of open innovation. The findings deepen an understanding of the potential that the open innovation approach offers for DMOs. The study further creates a background to collaborative tourist recovery COVID-19 pandemic through smart destination ecosystems.

Abstract This chapter explores how tourists 'gaze' at elephants at camps in Chiangmai, Thailand. Developing John Urry's (1990) concept of the tourist 'gaze', this chapter explores and explains different behaviours and perceptions of tourists who visit elephant camps in Chiangmai, and how elephant camps and surrounding communities as the hosts respond to such a gaze. The chapter first provides an overview of how 'traditional' elephant camps rapidly developed into alternative 'eco' or 'ethical' camps in the past decade. Then it tackles the issue of how tourists perceive and react to the available resources and services at these two types of elephant camps, based on statistical evidence and participant observations. The chapter also leads readers to an understanding of how the elephants and the hosts respond to the 'gaze' as reflected from the authors' experience during fieldwork in 2015-2017.

Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries nowadays and one of its specific features is its seasonality. This reflects in the unequable workflow of the tourist sites in the respective destinations. Bulgaria is a tourist destination which is characterized by a specific seasonal nature of the tourist product. In order to overcome the seasonality in tourism, it is necessary to achieve a more even distribution of visits to the tourist place over time by influencing the factors of seasonality - stimulating travel during the inactive and intermediate season, diversifying the types and forms of tourism in the destination and improving the quality and the range of services offered.

Tourism has become a mass phenomenon on a global level, it has long ceased to be associated only with summer and winter vacations. During the year, tourists are offered various services and opportunities, new destinations and new types of arrangements. With the progressive development of tourism, more and more attention is paid to the allotment contract (contract on the engagement of catering facilities) which enables the travel agency and the caterer (hotel) to perform tourist activity more efficiently and easily. For tourism service providers, the contract provides a higher and longer-lasting level of business security and stability, thus guaranteeing tourists a safer, better and more accessible service. The paper points out the importance and characteristics of the contract on allotment in tourism, the rights and obligations of the contracting parties and their role and position in tourism.

This paper explores how a certain country is described on official tourist sites whose main aim is to achieve more tourists (formal communication sources) and in informal tourists comments, who want to exchange their opinions. It shows that the difference in aims impacts the construction of country image as a set of different items reflecting real aspects of a certain country. The semantic and contextual analyses of Russian and German formal and informal tourism related sources shows the predominance of cognitive items (compared with affective ones) in both sources types, but cultural items colored positively prevail in formal sources (and thus an elaborated image is developed) whereas different cognitive and affective items are common for informal sources.

The next important branch that got affected is industry due to supply chain disruption. Economic activity has pretty much stalled in many sectors, and yet agriculture and food production are mentioned as saviors of national economies. The maxim is known as "there is no stable state without a consistent agrarian policy and a developed agricultural sector". Tourism is an important activity that is seriously counted on in the municipality of Kučevo. The festival of original folk art "Homoljski motivi" is organized in the municipality, moreover, at the territory of the municipality we can find the gold-bearing river Pek and the attractive caves Ceremošnja and Ravništarka. They are tourist content by which the municipality of Kučevo has long been recognizable. The absence of tourist activity on the territory of the municipality of Kučevo affected the reduction of the tourist offer, such as the preparation of traditional food using local products, which all has a negative impact on agricultural production, primarily livestock products.

Public investment in different types of tourism, from business to leisure tourism, has differentiated impacts on local economies, environment, people and government revenues. A fully integrated analytical approach such as the Integrated Economic-Environmental Modeling (IEEM) Platform is required to capture these multi-dimensional impacts. Applying IEEM to public investment in tourism in Costa Rica we find: investing in a higher skilled labor force particularly in traditional tourism-related activities will improve household welfare; similar increases in demand across all types of tourism show that Health tourism generates the greatest impact on household welfare, while Business tourism has the best prospects for reducing unemployment; Business tourism generates the largest increase in government revenues, but also has the largest greenhouse gas emission footprint, and; the whole of economy perspective of IEEM that captures direct, indirect and induced impacts results in a higher Net Present Value estimation of the investment.
