Two new species, Abantiades concordia sp. nov. and Abantiades malleus sp. nov., are described from Australia. Both species were collected in the Eastern Goldfields subregion of the Coolgardie bioregion in Western Australia. Abantiades concordia sp. nov. is shown to be closely related to A. paradoxa (Tindale, 1932) by sequence similarity of the mtDNA (COI) gene. The female of A. paradoxa is also described here for the first time. Abantiades paradoxa and the new species A. concordia sp. nov. are morphologically similar with respect to the structure of their genitalia, sternite VIII, wing patterning and their antennae with bi-forked rami. Abantiades malleus sp. nov. is quite distinct by sequence similarity of the mtDNA (COI) gene, but related in a clade with A. marcidus Tindale,1932, A. albofasciatus (Swinhoe, 1892), and A. furva (Tindale,1932), the latter species once placed in the synonymised Bordaia Tindale, 1932. Discussion of similar species once grouped under the genus Bordaia and under the genus Trictena Meyrick, 1890 (both junior synonyms of Abantiades Herrich-Schäffer, 1855) is also included.

Recent phylogenetic analyses have recovered Lastreopsis sensu Tindale (1965) as paraphyletic with Coveniella Tindale, Megalastrum Holttum, Rumohra Raddi, and Oenotrichia tripinnata (F. Muell. ex Benth.) Copel. nested within it (Labiak et al. 2014a). Species of Lastreopsis sensu Tindale were resolved in two clades now recognized as Lastreopsis s.s. and Parapolystichum. Accordingly, Labiak et al. (2014b) made new combinations for Conveniella and Oenotrichia tripinnata in Lastreopsis, and for 27 species of Lastreopsis in Parapolystichum. Lastreopsis s.s. now comprises 16 species, placed into two subgenera, subg. Lastreopsis and subg. Rhopalotricha (Labiak et al. 2015). Lastreopsis and Parapolystichum cannot always be distinguished from each other morphologically, therefore Labiak et al. (2014) refrained from making combinations for nine species that had not been included in their phylogenetic analysis, treating them as Incertae Sedis. We address one of those species here, Lastreopsis novoguineensis Holttum, which was described posthumously along with other novelties for the Flora Malesiana (Holttum, 1991). Here, we place Lastreopsis novoguineensis within a phylogenetic framework based on Labiak et al. (2014a) and resolve its taxonomic status based on these findings.

Annotation:
When the Transforming Tindale exhibition opened at the State Library of Queensland in September 2012, there was much excitement and goodwill. This landmark exhibition was curated by Michael Aird and featured Ah Kee’s drawings and enlarged prints of anthropologist Norman Tindale’s photographs of 1938-1940, as well as extensive archival information and stories from the subjects themselves and their relatives. The transformations of the exhibition’s title refer to the way Tindale’s ‘data’ was given both new physical form, as well as engendering and renewing social meanings. Scholars such as Elizabeth Edwards have argued that we should explore the materiality of images and the diverse forms they assume, attending to the ways their form and vitality shape us as much as we imbue them with meaning. Digitisation constitutes a major transformation of photographs’ historical accumulation of materiality. It also enables the return of historical archives from European museums to Indigenous relatives in Australia. In this article I explore the relations and narratives that emerge from this process, focusing on their Indigenous significance, and using the example of an enigmatic cardboard panel held by the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford on which are mounted thirteen photographs from South Australia. For Indigenous descendants of the people recorded in these photographs, their physical form is less important than the way they embody missing relatives, lost through invasion and assimilation. This process is slow and often awkward, but the rewards are great, in challenging foundational national histories, re-connecting family networks, and telling the truth of Indigenous experience.

Digitate-leaved specimens of the genus Glycine from across southern Australia that have been determined as G. clandestina J.C.Wendl. encompass a wide range of morphological variation. Re-evaluation of this material has resulted in the conclusion that three species should be recognised. The original concept of G. clandestina (digitate-leaved plants with long, c. nine-seeded pods) can be applied only to plants from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Two new species, G. peratosa B.E.Pfeil & Tindale and G. rubiginosa Tindale & B.E.Pfeil, are described from Western Australia and South Australia, respectively. Variation in G. clandestina s.s. is discussed in relation to contact zones with three other closely related species.

In the issue, Michael Gilbert first considers the history and development of his theory before Leo Groarke helpfully clarifies the differences and affinities between multi-modal and multimodal argumentation. Then, each of Gilbert’s modes is explored in a separate critical study, with David Godden attending to the logical mode, Linda Carroza to the emotional, Claudio Duran the visceral, and Christopher Tindale the kisceral. A final paper by Marko Novak applies the theory (particularly the kisceral mode) to the field of law. Together, these papers offer readers an opportunity to review the range of ideas associated with Gilbert’s model, and set the grounds for continuing research on this important theory.

Annotation:
A cytotaxonomic survey of the ferns and fern allies of Australia (including Lord Howe Island) is presented. Five-hundred-and-twenty-six chromosome counts of 268 Australian species, subspecies, varieties, variants and hybrids are recorded, only a small number having been previously investigated by other botanists on Australian material. Diploids represent c. 62% of the counts on species and c. 38% on polyploids, the latter ranging principally from triploids to a single decaploid and dodecaploid (but no heptaploids). More than one ploidy level has been reported in 19 taxa (almost 8% of taxa). Counts of 10x for Asplenium aethiopicum and 12x for A.flabellifolium are the highest definite ploidy levels for the Australian pteridophyte flora. Chromosome counts for 29 families and 89 genera are cited. Only diploids were reported for Osmundaceae and Cyatheaceae, but only polyploids for the Psilotaceae, Vittariaceae and Ophioglossaceae. An analysis is given of the levels of ploidy in 248 taxa, excluding the Lycopodiaceae and Hymenophyllaceae. The percentages of diploids and polyploids in Australian species are compared with those of nearby countries. Many species reported on here have never been cytologically investigated before, while others have not been studied previously on Australian material. The following genera have been examined cytologically for the first time: Coveniella Tindale, n = 41; Paraceterach (F.Muell.) Copel., n = 29; 'Oenotrichia Copel.', 2n = 82 (2x); Revwattsia (Watts) D.L.Jones, 2n = c. 328 (8x); and Pteridoblechnum Hennipman (2n = 54). The phylogeny of the genera is discussed in the light of these findings. Certain families such as the Adiantaceae, Cyatheaceae, Hymenophyllaceae, Lindsaeaceae and Marsileaceae were given special attention by collecting as much living material as possible. A number of species-complexes has been found and further chromosome counts added to intercontinental species complexes. The Döpp-Manton and Braithwaite forms of reproductive apomixis have been reported amongst some genera. Endemism, hybridity and apogamy amongst Australian pteridophytes are discussed, as well as homosporous and heterosporous species. The new combination Phymatosorus membranifolius (R.Br.) Tindale is made.

Three new species of ghost moth, Oxycanus ephemerous sp. nov., O. flavoplumosus sp. nov., and O. petalous sp. nov. are described from South Australia, New South Wales, and south-west Western Australia, respectively. We illustrate these species and compare morphological and molecular (mtDNA COI gene) characters with similar Oxycanus Walker, 1856 species from Australia. Comparative images of Oxycanus subvaria (Walker, 1856), O. byrsa (Pfitzner, 1933), and O. determinata (Walker, 1856) are figured. The type material of the three new species are held in the Australian National Insect Collection, Canberra, the Western Australian Museum, Perth, and in the South Australian Museum, Adelaide. The type specimens of Oxycanus hildae Tindale, 1964 syn. n. were also examined and the taxon is here considered synonymous with O. subvaria. Concerns are raised about the conservation status of all three new species due to few or localised distribution records.

Annotation:
‘Godless’ was never a neutral term: in 1528 William Tindale talked of ‘godlesse ypocrites and infidels’ and a ‘godless generation’ is one that has turned its back on God and the paths of righteousness. An atheist, by contrast, a new and self-conscious atheist perhaps, might now wear the term as a badge of pride, to indicate their rejection both of belief and the implication of moral turpitude. Traditionally, though, those who declared themselves ‘atheist’ had a hardly better press than the ‘godlesse’, since ‘atheism’ was and in some cases still is considered a form of intellectual and moral shallowness: thus Sir Francis Bacon offers a bluff refinement of the Psalmist's verdict on the fool who says in his heart that there is no God: The Scripture saith, The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God; it is not said, The fool hath thought in his heart; so he rather saith it, by rote to himself, as that he would have, than that he can thoroughly believe it, or be persuaded of it.

The genus Magnificus Yan, 2000 was originally established to include M. jiuzhiensis Yan, 2000 and M. zhiduoensis Yan, 2000. Here we also include the species M. bouvieri (Oberthür, 1913) comb. n., M. dirschi (Bang-Haas, 1939) comb. n., M. miniatus (Chu & Wang, 1985a) comb. n., M. regius (Staudinger, 1896) comb. n., and M. roseus (Oberthür, 1911) comb. n. Monophyly of Magnificus is supported by the shared presence of a unique shape of the tergosternal sclerite in the anterio-abdominal region and pseudoteguminal arm in the male genitalia. We also provide evidence for the inclusion of Magnificus and the northern Eurasian genera Hepialus Fabricius, Pharmacis Hübner, Triodia Hübner and Zenophassus Tindale as members of a larger monophyletic group supported by the shared presence in the male genitalia of a deep U-shaped medial notch in the posterior margin of the saccus and an expanded triangular flange at the lateral corners of the notch. The reciprocally allopatric distribution of Magnificus and its probable sister group is consistent with each originating locally by vicariance over different parts of a widespread ancestral range. This divergence may be the result of tectonic uplift in central Asia.

DNA-sequence variation at the single-copy nuclear locus histone H3-D was surveyed in 35 accessions of diploid Glycine tomentella Hayata (2n = 38, 40) and samples of the closely related new species Glycine aphyonota B.Pfeil and Glycine pullenii B.Pfeil, Tindale & Craven. The objective was a thorough analysis of the infraspecific variation in this complex species as a prelude to the analysis of the evolutionary origin of its tetraploid races. The shortest trees found by a heuristic search employing parsimony all grouped the accessions into five wellsupported clades that related closely to infraspecific taxa previously recognised from cytogenetic, isozyme and ITSsequence studies. The most-differentiated race (isozyme label D4) is related to the so-called A-genome species G. clandestina Wendl., G. canescens F.J.Herm., G. latrobeana (Meissn.) Benth. and G. argyrea Tind. This race is restricted to the central uplands of Queensland. The two common races from Queensland are the aneuploid (2n = 38) race and the euploid form from north-east coastal regions (D3). Remarkably, an isolated population of this race was found in the northern wetter fringes of the Kimberley District, Western Australia. The remaining two races (D5A and D5B) are centred on the monsoonal tropics of Kimberley and Top End, Northern Territory. These two groups have distinctive isozyme and morphological features that support the recognition of such divergence, at least at subspecific level.

Cocoa is one of the plantation commodities which in the last decade has become a source of income for Balinese farmers. However, the current condition of farmers' income from cocoa cultivation has decreased due to several factors including weeds, pest and diseases. This study aims to determine the type and dominance of weeds on cocoa plantations, their impact on cocoa main pests and diseases. The research was carried out by the observation method, namely direct observation of the farmers' cocoa gardens. Weed samples were calculated using the quadratic method, observing the attack of pests was determined by diagonal methods before and after the maintenance of cocoa plants. The results of the study found that there were 10 species of weeds that disrupted cocoa plants in Tabanan regency namely, Cyperusrotundus L, Imperatacylindrica L, Arachniodesaristata (G. Forst) Tindale, Brachiariamutica, Colocasia esculenta L Schott, Crassocephalumcrepidioides, Axonopuscompressus (Swartz) Beauv , Mikania micrantha Kunt, Ageratum conyzoides L, Synedrellanodiflora L. The highest density was found in the S. nodiflora L. type which was 5.73 units / m2, followed by A. conyzoides L. 4.86 units / m2, and C. crepidioideswhich was 4.0 units / m2. The lowest density is found in I. cylindrica L which is 0.86 units / m2. The poorly maintained cocoa plantations, only 30.14% of the potential results that should have been obtained, 31.37% were damaged by Phytophthora palmivora, 21.16% damaged by Helopeltis sp. and 17.33% were damaged by Conophomorpacramerella. Technical improvement in cultivation canincrease potential the results by 62.86% of total cocoa production. Besides that, there was a decrease in the attack of P. palmivora to only 7.84%, Helopeltis sp. 5.70% and C. cramerella 12.5%.

ABSTRACTMatthew Tindal's Rights of the Christian church (1706), which elicited more than thirty contemporary replies, was a major interjection in the ongoing debates about the relationship between church and state in late seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century England. Historians have usually seen Tindal's work as an exemplar of the ‘republican civil religion’ that had its roots in Hobbes and Harrington, and putatively formed the essence of radical whig thought in the wake of the Glorious Revolution. But this is to misunderstand theRights. To comprehend what Tindal perceived himself as doing we need to move away from the history of putatively ‘political’ issues to the histories of ecclesiastical jurisprudence, patristic scholarship, and biblical exegesis. The contemporary significance of Tindal's work was twofold: methodologically, it challenged Anglican patristic scholarship as a means of reaching consensus on modern ecclesiological issues; positively, it offered a powerful argument for ecclesiastical supremacy lying in crown-in-parliament, drawing on a legal tradition stretching back to Christopher St Germain (1460–1540) and on Tindal's own legal background. Tindal's text provides a case study for the tentative proposition that ‘republicanism’, whether as a programme or a ‘language’, had far less impact on English anticlericalism and contemporary debates over the church–state relationship than the current historiography suggests.

The majority of Dusun Tindal tribe learners in Sabah failed to achieve competency as native Malay speakers due to the fossilization mechanism which is performance-related. Hence, this research aims to examine the fossilization mechanism in the interlanguage of the young generation from the Dusun Tindal tribe. The case study was conducted at Tenghilan Secondary School, Tuaran, Sabah which involved 69 students. Besides the students, 12 language teachers were interviewed to get detailed information on target language learning strategies that allowed students to cross the interlanguage. Two informants from the Dusun Tindal community have provided a missing link to the Dusun Tindal tribe in Sabah. The first important finding involved trends in existing native language domains within Dusun Tindal communities that show multilingual equivalence. Secondly, most essay writing scores in the Malay language itself was still having interlanguage. Thirdly, the highest factor of fossilization causation was cognitive. The mapping of lexical and syntax elements into the target language domain was affecting students' thoughts. It was obvious sentences accommodate the overgeneralization form in the student interlanguage depicts a temporary plateau and they most often use message omission strategy. Fifthly, the continuum of interlanguage was based on the knowledge of native and the Malay language of the students most at acrolect level, namely one level lower than the native speaker competency. Language teachers suggested a number of strategies to dissolve the fossilization in interlanguage, specifically taking the right attitude towards student language errors.

Annotation:
The article is dedicated to the general theoretic study of the instruments of legal arguing and legal argumentation. The author determines that the substantive instruments of legal arguing are the arguments, while the argument schemes and argumentation structures serve for the purpose of reconstruction and evaluation of legal argumentation. The lack of unified understanding of what is argument in foreign and national legal studies is stated, as well as the impossibility of exhaustive categorization of the arguments in law. The argument is the basic tool of legal arguing. According to C. Tindale, in European tradition the concept of argument encompasses both premises of the argument (argumentation) and its conclusion (standpoint, claim). The concept of argument is rather vague. The author highlights the correlation of the argument and explanation as well as the argument and proof. The reasons for the argument are rooted in the sources of law, that makes argumentation legal. In the argumentation theory, the notions of «argument scheme» and «argumentation structure» are used in addition to the concept of argument. Argument scheme is the internal argument structure. An argument scheme characterizes the type of justification or refutation provided for the standpoint in a single argument by the explicit premise for the standpoint. Argument structure is considered as an external structure of argumentation. It is defined as the way the reasons advanced hang together and jointly support the defended standpoint. There are singular and multiple argumentation structures. The singular argumentation consists of one argument for or against a standpoint. In case of multiple argumentation, few arguments are put forward for or against the same standpoint to predict and respond counterarguments of an opposite party of legal arguing. The procedural aspect of the instruments of legal arguing are the rules of legal arguing. The procedural means of legal arguing are its procedural rules which depend on an area of legal activity where the argumentation is provided as well as on the peculiarities of the argumentative situation. On the one hand, there are procedural rules of legal arguing in any legal system, for instance, legal rules governing the procedures of debates in a parliament, court system, hearing in the Constitutional Court. On the other hand, there are doctrinal rules of critical discussion, of general and legal discourses, elaborated within the argumentation theory and the legal argumentation theory.

Annotation:
In his Christianity as Old as the Creation Matthew Tindal has reduced Christian religion to the natural religion. His reduction was the last stage of purification of Protestant religion from its supernatural elements. This whole process was taking place in England between 1534 and 1730. The main conclusion of this English deist sounded: the revealed religion was the only repetition of the eternal natural religion, based on the law of nature and human reason. Simultaneously he claimed that any Christian proprium (specific Christian content) did not exist in relation to any other non Christian religion. In this article I put this problem through critical assesment, making analysis of Tindal’s argumentation and confronting it with (to some degree) Thomas Becconsall views, expressed in his The Grounds and Foundation of Natural Religion. In contrast to Becconsall Tindal understands the nature of man in another way. This latter rejects the opinion that human nature was burdened with certain moral ineffectuality. According to it human being is more prone to misdeeds than to good deeds. In Christian religion it was possible to explain by the original sin and its hereditary effects in the history of mankind. Matthew Tindal rejects this Christian dogma. In reality he understands man’s existence in the state of pure nature and with reason acting without limitations. It corresponds to the situation of man before the Fall into the original sin. But Tindal is not any atheist. He is convinced of God’s existence as the Creator of the world and people. The reason of human beings participates in the light of Divine Wisdom. Thus cognition of God and human moral duties are possible (in practice) by intellectual effort directed to the sensible creatures only. This kind of rational investigation is characteristic for methaphysical cognition. In fact, there is small step from deism to atheism. English Enlightenment, based on the enlightened reason, was initially deistic character, afterwards on the Continent (especially in France) it quickly assumed atheistic form. In considerable degree it was possible owing to English deists like Matthew Tindal. They draw the ultimate conclusion from the plurality of Protestant denominations.
