Annotation:
Stephen J. Greenberg's recent article in these pages, “Dating Civil War Pamphlets, 1641–1644,” commendably calls attention to the two nearly identical manuscript catalogues that George Thomason had drawn up to catalogue his collection. Quite properly, Greenberg emphasizes the manuscript catalogues' difference from (and for some purposes, superiority to) the printed catalogue of the collection edited by G. K. Fortescue. A generation ago Lois Spencer did the same thing in two important articles on Thomason and his collection, but for lack of a follow-up, her insights have been largely ignored. Greenberg also attempted some statistical comparisons of dates of Fortescue's catalogue, Thomason's catalogue, and the Stationers' Registers.Greenberg's study of the Thomason collection grew out of his project of discovering the time lag between the occurrence of an event and its publication in the press. While Greenberg's interest in the collection is welcome, his efforts are misleading, and in some respects, seriously flawed. My purpose here is to clarify the nature of the Thomason collection, which is still surprisingly misunderstood, and to assist other researchers in its most profitable use.

I read with great interest Michael Mendle's critique of my work in dating pamphlets from the English Civil War. Obviously, this is an area where honest men may disagree, particularly since so many of our conclusions rest upon different interpretations of an ambiguous manuscript. Nevertheless, I find that I must begin by saying that Professor Mendle has entirely missed the main purpose of my research, and has therefore misconstrued my methodology. As I wrote in my original article, my chief concern was availability: For example, how soon after an event could a pamphlet be available? How many pamphlets were actually being printed (and when) as opposed to what was being entered in the registers of the Stationers' Company of London? In other words, what could a concerned citizen find for sale at the bookstalls on a given morning? The demands of these questions imposed their own limitations, and pointed to their own solutions. Only two day-by-day lists of publications exist: the Thomason manuscript and the registers of the Stationers' Company. The latter is clearly insufficiently complete for the task at hand. Moreover, it is well-known that entry in the Stationers' Registers is not a guarantee of actual publication. We are left with the Thomason manuscript as a difficult but unique source for the answers that I sought.Exactly when the two existing manuscripts were compiled is an unanswerable question. They may have been compiled, as Professor Mendle suggests, when the collection was nearly complete. They may represent a fair copy of notes that Thomason had been keeping all along. It is inescapable, however, that the manuscripts preserve the order in which Thomason obtained the tracts, and do so with far greater accuracy than either the printed British Museum catalogue or the present bound volumes.

This study addresses our understanding of English loanwords in the modern Japanese language. It aims to investigate the two types of English loanwords and made-in-Japan loanwords among Malaysian English speakers and native Japanese. The proposed study utilized a quantitative approach to determine the understanding of two groups of speakers; 60 Japanese speakers in Japan and 60 English speakers in Malaysia. The data collection of this research was completed using two questionnaires. The two questionnaires consist of 14 sentences with these two types of English loanwords selected from Japanese textbooks and other sources. The findings reflected correct responses to the meaning of English loanwords and made-in-Japan loanwords for Japanese speakers. The English speakers showed correct responses for English loanwords, however, they were discrepancies in responses when it comes to made-in-Japan loanwords. This research breaks ground on the issue of the comprehension of English loanwords and made-in-Japan among Native Japanese speakers and Malaysian English speakers. This study incorporates the theory of language contact by Thomason (2001). The contact occurs where the mutual influence of languages happens leading to code-switching, borrowing, and loanwords formed by the social setting and the contact environment. It also employs the theory of language awareness to support second language learning and develop the learner’s comprehension. The significance of the study emphasizes English language learning benefits and the importance of the learners’ understanding of the differences between English loanwords to utilize them in vocabulary building.

Of a total of twelve parables or similitudes appearing in Q, fully half are paralleled in the CopticGospel of Thomas. The two writings share approximately forty separate sayings. The similarity between these collections extends beyond considerable shared content, however, to embrace a common genre, a common predilection for aphoristic and proverbial forms, a common concern with both practical and speculative wisdom, and a surprising lack of interest in the death and resurrection of Jesus. As the similarities between Q and theGospel of Thomasare necessarily of a literary variety, attempts to explain them have naturally tended to favor documentary hypotheses. This is certainly true of the conservative claim that theGospel of Thomasis dependent for its traditions on the synoptic gospels. The trend toward denying any such dependence, however, has hardly diminished the tendency to explain the two writings' common content, formal features, and theological motifs in terms of essentially literary connections. Helmut Koester, who is largely responsible for the status theGospel of Thomasnow enjoys as an early and valuable document, has argued that, if theGospel of Thomasis not actually dependent on an earlier recension of Q, which it very well may be, it at least shares common sources with it.

The library of Sir Thomas Mostyn, second baronet (1651– 92) at Gloddaith Hall (Llandudno), is recognised as the most significant private collection of manuscripts made in Wales. Among Sir Thomas's medieval treasures were manuscripts of English provenance – some written in Middle English – one of which is Sir Thomas's copy of John Lydgate's devotional work, The Lyf of Our Lady. This article examines what the purchase of Lydgate's Lyf reveals about Sir Thomas's principles of acquisition of medieval English manuscripts. Sir Thomas's copy of the Lyf was not the only copy of this work of Marian devotion owned by the Mostyn family. Reading Lydgate's Lyf in conjunction with an early seventeenth-century recusant missal in circulation in the Holywell area suggests an unlooked-for afterlife for John Lydgate's Lyf and the post Reformation devotion of the Mostyn family in the environs of Holywell.

Among others, the Polish National Library possess a collection (MS 8098 IV) encompassing parchment fragments extracted from bookbindings, which contain German texts. This collection was acquired from the family of the deceased bibliophile from Lublin, Father Ludwik Zalewski. The collection consists of eleven parchment leaves, six of which form three bifolia, the other five being small fragments. The collection is known to historians, chiefly due to two of the bifolia, which contain fragments of an Old Saxon translation of the Psalms (Altsächsiche Psalmen). The rest of the fragments, dated chiefly by the author to the fourteenth century, are also of interest. J. Kaliszuk identifies them as belonging to: Der Welsche Gast by Thomasin von Zerklaere, the Christherre-Chronik and the Livländische Reimchronik. The author also demonstrates that this collection was put together by L. Zalewski, hence there is no possibility of tracing the provenance of individual fragments. The article is supplemented by two appendices, the first with codicological descriptions of the complete collection, and the second containing an edition of the letter from Stanisław Tomkowicz, an art historian from Cracow, to Ludwik Zalewski, written in 1916, concerning the fragments in question.

Kemp, Helen. „Collecting, communicating, and commemorating : the significance of Thomas Plume's manuscript collection, left to his Library in Maldon, est. 1704“. Thesis, University of Essex, 2017. http://repository.essex.ac.uk/20651/.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
This thesis is about networks in seventeenth-century England: the making and re-shaping of networks of people and texts, and the ways in which they evolved and transformed. It focuses on the manuscripts collected by Dr Thomas Plume (1630-1704), vicar of Greenwich and archdeacon of Rochester, who left them with a substantial body of books and pamphlets to the Library he endowed in Maldon. They take the form of notebooks and papers complied by a number of different clergymen, in particular Dr Robert Boreman (d.1675) and Dr Edward Hyde (1607-1659), in addition to Plume. The significance of the research lies in its reconstruction of the intellectual lives of the middle-status loyalist clergy through their handwritten texts. The research intervenes into debates about the nature and status of the manuscript form in an age of print and asks why these texts were left with the Library. The content and material form of these notebooks and papers evidence the reading and writing practices of the middle-status clergy, and the ways they were able to use their positions to influence and persuade on local and national levels. The main sections of the thesis encompass: a critical analysis of the manuscript collection; an examination of why the manuscripts were created and re-used; an appraisal of themes of identity, memorial, and legacy reflected within them; and the relationship between the handwritten items and printed books. This thesis argues that these seemingly-ephemeral texts were in fact the ‘heart’ of Plume’s library collection, representing a network of clergymen whose commitment to each other’s work extended as far as if they had been related by blood. Their working papers symbolised a memorial to their scholarship, saved for posterity under the shadow of destruction and loss during the Civil Wars.

The Raoul Rochebrune’s legacy (1849-1924) is a collection of 1024 pieces, representing a large period from prehistory to XIX° century. It is mainly focused on European cutting weapons and harnessing pieces, with historical or heraldry characteristics, assigned to medieval period. Developed around the nucleus transmitted by his father O. De Rochebrune (1824-1900), the collection of this aristocrat from Vendée and fortunate amateur is the picture of a life lead in harmony with : his time, participating to the rediscovery of chivalry times and emergence of national archaeology, the private collection phenomenon which appears in France during the XVIII th. Century, his social position as a provincial notable whose castle de la Court, at St-Cyr-en Talmondais (Vendée), contains the results of his various researches. Since 1930, this collection has never been globally studied. Belonging to a specific domain, this corpus is qualified as original because of : the inventor’s personality, investigating the historicity and publishing his discoveries, his capacity to ask for the best experts’ advices, the disparity of the collection, the origin of the pieces, the documentation coming with, the collection process oriented –since 1986- to transmission. This work prove today the interest for a precise analysis of the context in which that unique French amateur’s collection’s has been organised. The thesis integrate the reasoned catalogue of the collection, constituted by pieces which became rare and not very studied outside the art market

Clark, Sarah. „THE POPULAR IMAGES OF JOHN BROWN AND THOMAS "STONEWALL" JACKSON“. Master's thesis, University of Central Florida, 2007. http://digital.library.ucf.edu/cdm/ref/collection/ETD/id/3816.

Annotation:
This study examines the evolution of the popular images of John Brown and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. It begins by analyzing the historiography of each man. The second and third chapters are biographies of each man. The fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters examine the popular images of the two men in print media, visual media, and monuments. This thesis concludes with appendices which contain reproductions of songs, photographs, and paintings referred to in the chapters. This study finds that the myth of the Lost Cause has kept Thomas Jackson's popular image consistently positive and heroic since his death in 1863. At the same time, this myth has contributed to an ever-changing image of Brown, though other issues, such as race and terrorism, have played significant roles as well. Brown has at various times been considered a madman, a saint, and merely a product of his times. Because the Lost Cause continues to pervade popular memory of the Civil War, Jackson's image is unlikely to change quickly. Because race and the fear of terrorism continue to pervade American society, Brown's image is likely to remain controversial.

Abstract This extraordinary pamphlet, surviving only in The Thomason collection of ephemeral literature, appears to represent Mrs Elizabeth With’s explanation of The break-up of her marriage, presumably in answer to critics. While many women of her generation pamphleteered in support of religious or political positions, this is a unique survival of a woman’s personal polemic (though probably not The only one to be written). Small-scale, unbound pamphlet printing of texts of only a few pages was inexpensive, and could be entered on by very modestly situated people, as we can see from The evident poverty of some nonconformist pamphleteers. It is just a possibility that she was The relative that Anna Trapnel went to live with in 1647, The Mrs WyThe who dwelt on Fenchurch Street.

Annotation:
Abstract Book collecting is a challenge. If the challenge is too easy, for instance, assembling a complete collection of the works of Thomas Pynchon or Robert Lowell, there will be little excitement because these collections can be completed with no greater difficulty than the expenditure of a relatively small sum of money. In both cases, there are no great rarities to pursue. On the other hand, if the challenge is too hard, there is no incentive. Take, for instance, collecting the work of Vladimir Nabokov. His first book, a volume of poems issued in St Petersburg before the Russian Revolution of 1917, is known to exist in only two copies in the Western world, and both of these arc lodged permanently in institutional libraries. Thus a collection of Nabokov is unlikely ever to be complete, a fact which will frustrate the true collector. Furthermore, a long and satisfying chase can be made only in pursuit of a sufficiently large quantity of material. Thus, most twentieth-century authors and poets are not ideal targets for the spirited and devoted collector, although there are, of course, some exceptions. They arc by and large the giants of the century: Yeats, Pound, Lawrence, Joyce, Stein, and Eliot spring readily to mind. But these authors have been collected so avidly for the last two decades that prices have risen to staggering heights for the rarities and the supply even of middle-range items in fine condition has been virtually exhausted.

The article provides results of research protein content and collection in grain of 12 varieties of seed peas. The yield studied varieties of seed peas mostly did not exceed 4.0 t/ha. The exception was the varieties Salamanka (4.6 t/ha) and Thomas (4.1 t/ha). Moreover Altayskiy usaty showed a close result (3.9 t/ha). On the protein content be in the leads according to the research results, the varieties Altayskiy usaty, Varyag, Radomir, Yakhont, Svetozar (more 24,0%). At Altayskiy usaty and Yakhont in the 2021 given parameter reached 26.0%. And the varieties Altaiskiy usaty, Radomir, Varyag the protein content on all 3 years was 25.0% and more. On the protein harvesting at best results at the varieties Salamanka, Altayskiy usaty, Thomas, Nordman (more 7.0 h/ha). On 2020–2021 at the varieties Altayskiy usaty, Salamanka and Thomas given parameter exceed 10.0 h/ha. And in 2021 at Salamanka the protein harvesting was 9.9 h/ha. The influence a temperature factor, also moisture availability on the protein content the greatest in second-third decades of May, also — in first decades of June. The greatest dependence at head supply and moisture availability it was detected in varieties Kemchug, Annushka, Radomir, and Salamanka. Hydrothermal coefficient rendered analogous influence on the investigated of varieties. But as stated above the varieties Kemchug, Annushka, Radomir, Salamanka in list most hydrothermal coefficient dependented of the varieties to get Varyag. Impact of meteorological factors on the protein harvesting generally was less strong. Annushka, Radomir, Yamalskiy, Yakhont, at the same time, showed the greatest dependence from air temperature, precipitations and hydrothermal coefficient.

We discuss the possibility of exploiting the dynamic electron-nucleus interaction in order to form a nuclear population inversion in a short-lifetime excited state. We first review the situation in terms of dynamic hyperfine mixing between the nucleus and electron single-particle states. Then we treat the subject of nonlinear collective electron motion. We present results for the calculation of electron photoabsorption cross sections by the time-dependent Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Weizsacker method1 as well as for the coupling of the resulting electron excitations to the nucleus. We also discuss the problem of premature ionization of the atoms involved.

Conflict resolution styles and personality characteristics of high-level managers. A high-level manager holds a position that is demanding in terms of performance and professional skills, while it is also necessary to take into account the socio-psychological dimension of the profession. Objectives. The aim of the paper is to compare high-level female and male managers in the level of conflict resolution style and selected personality characteristics (Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy). Methods. The research sample consisted of 193 respondents (38.9% women) aged 24 to 62 (M= 41.86; SD= 9.42). Data collection took place by administering the methodology to highlevel managers, which was part of a complex test battery. Conflict resolution styles were measured by the Thomas-Kilmann conflict mode instrument (Thomas & Kilmann, 1974), which consists of 30 items, and personality characteristics were assessed by the Dark triad questionnaire (Jones & Paulhus, 2014), which assesses the level of Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. (Cronbach α = 0.816). Research data were processed in the JASP 0.14.1.0 program. We used descriptive statistics and t- tests for two independent samples. Results. We found that women showed a lower level of psychopathy. In the area of conflict resolution styles, men scored higher in the competing mode and women scored higher in the use of avoiding mode. Conclusion. The examined psychological constructs are a long-term interest of research, while in the future it would be stimulating to continue research aimed at assessing the personality traits of the Dark Triad on an extended sample of high-level managers and assessing the conflict resolution strategies of managers on the part of employees. Limits. The size of the research sample can be considered a limit of the contribution, while with a larger number of respondents it would be possible to capture the studied phenomena with higher statistical accuracy.

The southern limit of thePrato della Valle space in the southern part of Padua's historical centre, inItaly, was continuously delimited by the boundary wall of the Santa Maria dellaMisericordia convent until the early twentieth century. Its presence was one ofthe elements that more than a century ago inspired the enlightened proposal byDomenico Cerato, a design professor at the University of Padua who had beeninspired by Andrea Memmo, the Superintendent of the Serenissima Republic ofVenice. The straight and continuous limit was replaced by the discontinuousarchitecture of the Foro Boario entrance, built in 1913 according to a designby Alessandro Peretti; this weakened the overall solution based on anelliptical shape, as did the communicative power of the nearby basilica ofSanta Giustina. The examination carried out dwells on these limits, simulatingthe virtual introduction of architecture with a continuous front to thesouthern edge of the Prato della Valle. One example of this type ofarchitecture is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art built in Kansas City between1930 and 1933, based on a design by the brothers Thomas and William Wight, andexpanded in 1999 based on a design by Steven Hall. The study generallyconfirmed that the compactness of the building's front newly provides strengthto Cerato's design, which gave a sense of unity to the general emptiness thanksto the certainty of its borders, and gives again the Basilica of Santa Giustinaits monumental size. This paper investigates the composition ofheterogeneous fragments, excerpts from the inventory of collective memory, andthe resulting unpredictable architecture in an urban context.

Abanum, Andrew Monday, Ibidabo David Alebere und Chinemerem Patricks-E. „Determinants of IOGP Life-Saving Rules Compliance Among Nigerian Petroleum Industry Workers“. In SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition. SPE, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/208227-ms.

Annotation:
Abstract Life-saving rules (LSRs) are a set of defined rules that support and complement general site-specific safety rules and procedures (SRPs). LSRs are popular in the oil & gas (O&G) industry and are part of the safety management system framework designed to prevent incidents in the workplace. Complying with LSRs ensures its intent of incident prevention, drives the goal of creating decent work, economic growth and sustainable development. With the continuum of incidents in the industry, total compliance with LSRs and SRPs still remains a mirage. Even though the introduction of LSRs in the O&G caused a paradigm shift from fair to better safety performance, incident investigations continue to unveil cases of violations/non-compliance. In the space of continuous improvement, it becomes expedient to determine possible causes of these LSRs and SRPs non-compliance, with a view to nipping the causal factors in the bud. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the level of workers compliance with IOGP LSRs in selected O&G companies operating in Delta State, Nigeria. The research recruited 317 sharp end workers and selected leaders, through a multistage sampling technique. A semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The study in its findings was able to elicit numerous compliance determinants arising from socio-demography, occupational and organisational factors. These factors are barriers to strengthen if the goal of total compliance and zero incident must be achieved in the workplace. The study recommends that management should comply with Thomas Legge's aphorisms 1 & 4 on SRPs and design training programmes for employees to be imparted with requisite knowledge needed for compliance, commit to safety and lead a positive safety culture to drive continuous improvement. Furthermore, there is the need to pursue total compliance with LSRs, SRPs and any site-specific safety rules to achieve zero incidents in the O&G industry.

Brickner, Robert H. „Behind the Scenes: Historic Agreement to Develop U.S. Virgin Islands’ First Alternative Energy Facilities“. In 18th Annual North American Waste-to-Energy Conference. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/nawtec18-3516.

Annotation:
In the summer of 2009, Governor John P. DeJongh, Jr. announced that the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) had just signed two 20-year Power Purchase Agreements, and the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) had signed two 20-year Solid Waste Management Services Agreements with affiliates of Denver-based Alpine Energy Group, LLC (AEG) to build, own, and operate two alternative energy facilities that will serve the residents of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas. The alternative energy facilities, to be built on St. Croix and St. Thomas, have a projected cost of $440 million and will convert an estimated 146,000 tons per year of municipal solid waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) using WastAway Services® technology, which will be combined with petroleum coke as fuel in fluidized bed combustion facilities to generate steam and electric power. These sustainable projects will provide 33 MW of electric power to St. Thomas and St. John and 16 MW of electric power to St. Croix, and will help to provide long-term cost stability for electric power and solid waste management in the Territory. Construction is expected to start in spring 2010 with an anticipated completion date during the fourth quarter of 2012. This procurement is a significant achievement for the U.S. Virgin Islands. When the projects are fully implemented, they will allow the Territory to reduce its dependence on oil, recover the energy value and certain recyclable materials from its municipal solid waste, and divert this waste from landfill. Since VIWMA has the responsibility to collect and/or dispose of solid waste year-round, having a system incorporating multiple solid waste processing lines and an adequate supply of spare parts on hand at all times is crucial to meeting the daily demands of waste receiving and processing, and RDF production. Also, with the location of the US Virgin Islands in a hurricane zone, and with only one or two combustion units available in each Project, the ability to both stockpile waste pre-RDF processing and store the produced RDF is very important. Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB)’s work has included a due diligence review of the Projects and providing professional support in VIWMA’s negotiations with AEG. GBB’s initial primary assignment centered on reviewing the design and operations of the RDF processing systems that will be built and operated under the respective Service Contracts. VIWMA needed to undertake a detailed technical review of the proposed RDF processing system, since this was the integration point of the waste collection system and waste processing/disposal services. GBB, in association with Maguire, was requested to provide this review and present the findings and opinions to VIWMA. In the completion of this effort, which included both a technical review and participation in negotiations to advance the Service Contracts for the Projects, GBB made direct contact with the key equipment suppliers for the Projects proposed by AEG. This included Bouldin Corporation, the primary RDF processing system supplier, with its patented WastAway technology, and Energy Products of Idaho, the main thermal processing equipment supplier, with its fluidized bed combustion technology and air pollution control equipment. Additionally, since the combustion systems for both Projects will generate an ash product that will require marketing for use and/or disposal over the term of the Service Contracts, GBB made contact with LA Ash, one of the potential subcontractors identified by AEG for these ash management services. Due to the nature of the contract guarantees of VIWMA to provide 73,000 tons per year of Acceptable Waste to each Project for processing, VIWMA authorized GBB to perform a current waste stream characterization study. Part of this effort included waste sorts for one week each in February 2009 on St. Croix and March 2009 on St. Thomas, with the results shared with VIWMA and AEG, as compiled. The 2009 GBB waste stream characterization study incorporated historical monthly waste weigh data from both the Bovoni and Anguilla Landfills that were received from VIWMA staff. The study has formed a basis for continuing to augment the waste quantity information from the two landfills with the additional current monthly results compiled by VIWMA staff going forward following the waste sorts. The final GBB report was published in December 2009 and includes actual USVI landfill receipt data through August 31, 2009. The information contained in this document provides the underpinnings to allow for better tracking and analysis of daily, weekly and monthly waste quantities received for recycling, processing and disposal, which are important to the overall waste processing system operations, guarantees and cost projections. GBB’s annual projections are that the total waste on St. Croix is currently over 104,000 tons per year and over 76,000 tons per year on St. Thomas. The thermal processing technology selected for both Projects is a fluidized bed process, employing a heated bed of sand material “fluidized” in a column of air to burn the fuel — RDF and/or Pet Coke. As such, the solid waste to be used in these combustion units must be size-reduced from the myriad of sizes of waste set out at the curb or discharged into the large roll-off boxes or bins at the many drop-off sites in the US Virgin Islands. While traditional RDF would typically have several days of storage life, the characteristics of the pelletized RDF should allow several weeks of storage. This will be important to having a sound and realistic operating plan, given the unique circumstances associated with the climate, waste moisture content, island location, lack of back-up disposal options and downtime associated with the Power Generation Facility. During the negotiations between AEG and VIWMA, in which GBB staff participated, in addition to RDF and pelletized RDF as the waste fuel sources, other potential fuels have been discussed for use in the Projects and are included as “Opportunity Fuels” in the Service Contracts. These Opportunity Fuels include ground woody waste, dried sludges, and shredded tires, for example. Therefore, the flexibility of the EPI fluidized bed combustion boilers to handle multi-fuels is viewed as an asset over the long term, especially for an island location where disposal options are limited and shipping materials onto and off of each island is expensive. This presentation will provide a unique behind-the-scenes review of the process that led to this historic agreement, from the due diligence of the proposed technologies, to implementation planning, to the negotiations with the contractor. Also discussed will be the waste characterization and quantity analysis performed in 2009 and the fast-track procurement planning and procurement of construction and operating services for a new transfer station to be sited on St. Croix.

A strong mandate and need for socioeconomic monitoring are expressed in the NPS strategic goals for science, in statements by the NPS leadership, and the report of the Second Century Commission. This mandate resulted in a pilot socioeconomic monitoring study in 2015/2016 at a sample of park units across the U.S; the current study uses outcomes from the first stage of the pilot program and progresses into a second stage of the pilot process at 24 NPS units across the United States. Thomas Jefferson Memorial was selected as one of these units. This report informs core issues of visitor use management and develops a deeper, contemporary understanding of who visits Thomas Jefferson Memorial and what they do during their visit. It uses a two-phased survey methodology to capture a representative sample of visitor information, characteristics, and behavior: (1) an on-site intercept survey conducted via tablet, and (2) a follow up (mail-back and/or online survey) for full trip details. The results are organized by these two phases and are aimed to assist park managers in understanding current utilization and perception of park resources, operations and potential issues, as well as facilitating communication and decision-making processes within the park and between the park and its local partners and stakeholders.
