The 21th century has seen huge changes of corporations. While companies’ business grew rapidly, attention and recognition on corporate social responsibility has gradually been attracted and put on a vital strategy position. It has been proofed to be a crucial way that enterprises share their social responsibility actively in order to enhance their competitive advantage. With more and more enterprises knowing how important social responsibility is for their development, they released a new method which is called sustainability report to show them determine and confidence to take social responsibility. This thesis can be divided into six parts. The first part is about introduction and background. The second part is literature review. The third part is the development of hypotheses. The fourth part is research method and the fifth part is a conclusion. The last part is the reference.

Neoliberal theories share the idea of “the market” i.e. a “higher” instance or an autonomous process which commands people. But this concept includes a deep meaning, namely the picture of a world divided into two parts: a market and its contrary, like “the” state. This picture is similar to the way demagogues think – who hold true a form of thought in which the social world is stereotypically divided into two strictly separate parts: a homogenous in-group, “Us”, which is the target group of political propaganda, and a homogenous out-group. “The market” contra “the state”-view uses a binary code similarly, has a dynamic-actionistic momentum and is empirically unprovable. This can be shown in the writings of Mises and Hayek as in the neoclassical general equilibrium theory. My thesis is that this is the common element of the different theorists gathered in the Mont Pélerin society. The binary code of “the market” has an advantage in debates: it cannot be critized in principle, even in deep crises. Due to its quasi-demagogic deep structure, every mistake must be attributed to the “the” state, and the remedy for every crisis has to be a call for more “market”, as Tea Party representatives argue or the European austerity packages imply.

AbstractThe present thesis lies at the interface of logic and linguistics; its object of study are control sentences with overt pronouns in Romance languages (European and Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and Spanish). This is a topic that has received considerably more attention on the part of linguists, especially in recent years, than from logicians. Perhaps for this reason, much remains to be understood about these linguistic structures and their underlying logical properties. This thesis seeks to fill the lacunas in the literature or at least take steps in this direction by way of addressing a number of issues that have so far been under-explored. To this end, we put forward two key questions, one linguistic and the other logical. These are, respectively, (1) What is the syntactic status of the surface pronoun? and (2) What are the available mechanisms to reuse semantic resources in a contraction-free logical grammar? Accordingly, the thesis is divided into two parts: generative linguistics and categorial grammar. Part I starts by reviewing the recent discussion within the generative literature on infinitive clauses with overt subjects, paying detailed attention to the main accounts in the field. Part II does the same on the logical grammar front, addressing in particular the issues of control and of anaphoric pronouns. Ultimately, the leading accounts from both camps will be found wanting. The closing chapter of each of Part I and Part II will thus put forward alternative candidates, that we contend are more successful than their predecessors. More specifically, in Part I, we offer a linguistic account along the lines of Landau’s T/Agr theory of control. In Part II, we present two alternative categorial accounts: one based on Combinatory Categorial Grammar, the other on Type-Logical Grammar. Each of these accounts offers an improved, more fine-grained perspective on control infinitives featuring overt pronominal subjects. Finally, we include an Appendix in which our type-logical proposal is implemented in a categorial parser/theorem-prover.Abstract prepared by María Inés Corbalán.E-mail: inescorbalan@yahoo.com.arURL: http://repositorio.unicamp.br/jspui/handle/REPOSIP/331697

The major thesis of this paper is that some of the most dramatic gains in special education have been in the education of emotionally disturbed children. Unfortunately, the converse is equally true — some of the most pressing needs in special education are evident in this area. A minor, though significant, theme is that, while the field of emotional disturbance has perhaps the most shallow pedogogical roots of any category of exceptionality in special education, it has the deepest philosophical and psychological roots. This could be an asset in the present context of decline in support for professional schools of education. Other categorical areas of special education have had more primary affiliation with pedagogy, whereas the education of emotionally disturbed children has had more basic affiliation with psychology. I will first discuss the strengths of the area and selected accomplishments and changes during the past 20 years — the approximate total history — as a significant area of education. I will then focus on some of the challenges and opportunities for growth. My discussion of our strengths is divided into three parts: (a) maturing and change in our perspective, (b) areas in which we have been in the vanguard of special education, and (c) specific gains we have made.

In recent years, with further development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, the research on using news sentiments, and then predicting investor behavior has become more feasible. Based on the news information obtained from the Internet, this article analyzes the investor ‘s emotions about the news, further predicts the behavior of investors, and then the rise and fall of investment asset prices. We use news sentiment tendency and stock price of listed companies to analyze whether the news sentiment really affects the stock price and the degree of its influence. The research results of the thesis are divided into two parts: (1) A CNN neural network capable of analyzing news that may have an impact on stock prices in the near future is designed and trained to obtain a timely response and form a simulated investment decision for investors to adjust the investment strategy timely; (2) Combined with the economic indicators, this article uses the LSTM neural network to comprehensively investigate whether the emotional tendency of the news has a significant impact on the stock price. This article draws four kinds of images, which can test the accuracy of the model from different angles and guide consumers’ investment.

Schliesser, Eric. „Four Species of Reflexivity and History of Economics in Economic Policy Science“. Journal of the Philosophy of History 5, Nr. 3 (2011): 425–45. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/187226311x599899.

Abstract This paper argues that history of economics has a fruitful, underappreciated role to play in the development of economics, especially when understood as a policy science. This goes against the grain of the last half century during which economics, which has undergone a formal revolution, has distanced itself from its ‘literary’ past and practices precisely with the aim to be a more successful policy science. The paper motivates the thesis by identifying and distinguishing four kinds of reflexivity in economics. The main thesis of this paper is that because these forms of reflexivity are not eliminable, the history of economics must play a constitutive role in economics (and graduate education within economics). An assumption that I clarify in this paper is that the history of economics ought to be part of the subject matter studied by economics when they are interested in policy science. Even if one does not accept the conclusion, the fourfold classification of reflexivity might hold independent interest. The paper is divided in two parts. First, by reflecting on the writings of George Stigler, Paul Samuelson, George and Milton Friedman, I offer a stylized historical introduction to and conceptualization of the themes of this paper. In particular, I identify various historically influential arguments and strategies that reduced the role of history of economics within the economics discipline. In it I also canvass six arguments that try to capture the cost to economics (understood as a science) for sidelining the history of economics from within the discipline. A sub-text of the introduction is that for contingent reasons, post World War II economics evolved into a policy science. Second, by drawing on the work of Kenneth Boulding, in particular, George Soros, Thomas Merton, Gordon Tullock, I distinguish between four species of reflexivity. These are used to then strengthen the argument for the constitutive role of the history of economics within the economics profession. In particular, I argue that so-called Kuhn-losses are especially pernicious when faced with policy choices under so-called Knightian uncertainty.

Essay between writing and essay writing: contributions from Roland Barthes to Education” (2011). It explores the problematic and the conception that reading, if attached to writing, can be an output, fruit of initiation, an adventure with symbolic generality related to pleasure. In a theoretical essay mode, it’s divided into four parts: a) first gesture, the writing; b) 2nd gesture, the reading; c) 3rd gesture, the pleasure involved; d) 4th gesture, other readings. It develops the thesis according to the precepts of Roland Barthes (1915/1980), based on the degree of zero writing. It sustains the importance of the school to give time to fruition, to the future and creative idleness, in contrast to the exhaustive work on the development of reading/writing that seems to ignore the apparent link between reading, writing and life through a relationship in which the writer/reader doesn’t only have the authorship of the text giving up of being the author/user and starting to be used by the language (instead of just using it) bravely, considering the other that is necessarily interwoven in the speeches that form us daily. Keywords: Reading. Powers’ book, originally a doctoral dissertation submitted toPrinceton University, is a welcome addition to the already growing corpusof studies revising Joseph Schacht’s thesis that Islamic law did not exist duringthe lifetime of the Prophet. This is, however, not the central theme ofthe book. Powers contends that the Islamic law of inheritance is not identicalto the system of inheritance revealed to Prophet Muhammad and that theMuslim community is not in possession of the original reading and understandingof several Qur’anic verses and Prophetic hadith. The thesis presented in this book can be summarized as follows:Islamic law began to develop with Qur‘anic legislation which was moreclear and systematic on the subject of inheritance. In pre-Islamic Arabia theintergenemtional transmission of property was by seniority rather than by directdescent. The Qur’an introduced a new system of inheritance which reflecteda transition from tribalism to individualism, with more emphasis on the rightsof women to property. The author sees two systems of the law of inheritancein Islam:1) The proto-Islamic law of inheritance which existed only during2) Islamic law of inheritance, which exists as ‘ilm al-farii‘id.the lifetime of the Prophet; and,Powers contends that the proto-Islamic system was mainly testatory andthe property was distributed according to fixed shares only in the absenceof a will. This paper pays tribute to life and work of professor Dr. Slavko Stojković, a diplomat and state agent of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It is divided into five parts - introduction, short biography and three fields of his work - representation in international arbitral and judicial proceedings, where he made his principal achievements, diplomacy, and finally, legal writing, in which he also left a mark. The part on representation briefly mentions the cases Losinger (1935) and Pajzs, Csaky, Esterhazy (1935) before the Permanent Court of International Justice in which he acted as the state agent of Yugoslavia, the pathological arbitration S.E.E.E. v. Yugoslavia in which he was involved in various ways, and his role as the state agent of Yugoslavia before the German-Yugoslav and Hungaro-Yugoslav Mixed Arbitral Tribunals. Reference is made to sources that cover these cases in more detail. His diplomatic activity includes participation in the sessions of the League of Nations, and in particular his role in advocating the adoption of the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Terrorism (1937), as well as his participation in negotiating with the Halyard Mission (1944) and with the French Government (1950). Among his legal writings, the most remarkable are his doctoral thesis De l'autorité de la sentence arbitrale en droit international public obtained at the Sorbonne in 1924 under the presidency of Antoine Pillet, and often cited even in modern times, his article on Mixed Arbitral Tribunals (1931) published in French, and his article on the "Possibility of Existence of International Arbitration Independent of National Laws" (1966) anticipating the appearance of investment arbitration. The authors conclude that Dr. Slavko Stojković was one of the most eminent lawyers of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the forefather of arbitration law in Yugoslavia and Serbia.

Comics and cartoons from Japan, or manga and anime, are an increasingly common feature of visual and popular culture around the world. While it is often observed that these media forms appeal to broad and diverse demographics, including many adults, eroticism continues to unsettle critics and has even triggered legal action in some jurisdictions. It is more urgent than ever to engage in productive discussion, which begins with being informed about content that is still scarcely understood outside small industry and fan circles. Erotic Comics in Japan: An Introduction to Eromanga is the most comprehensive introduction in English to erotic comics in Japan, or eromanga. Divided into three parts, it provides a history of eroticism in Japanese comics and cartoons generally leading to the emergence of eromanga specifically, an overview of seven themes running across works with close analysis of outstanding examples and a window onto ongoing debates surrounding regulation and freedom of expression in Japan.

This is a collection of previously published essays that are all concerned, at some level, with the nature, scope, and limits of representation, where by representation is meant the act of representing, truly or falsely, how things are. The collection is divided into three parts. The essays in Part I deal with linguistic representation. One thesis that surfaces at various points in these essays is that some things are ineffable. The essays in Part II deal with representation more generally, and with the character of what is represented. They all touch more or less directly on the distinction between perspectival representation, that is representation from a point of view, and absolute representation, that is representation from no point of view. One thesis that surfaces at various points in these essays is that nothing is ineffable. The essays in Part III, deriving their inspiration from the early work of Wittgenstein, indicate how the resulting tension between Parts I and II is to be resolved. We can construe the first of these theses as a thesis about states of knowledge or understanding, and the second as a thesis about facts or truths.

Toward the „new normal” after Covid-19 – a post-transition economy perspective contains a collection of 21 papers addressing the societal, political, economic, and managerial challenges of the post-pandemic world. The book is divided into three parts. Part one touches on the supranational and national level aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Part two focuses on business sectors and industries, whereas part three provides the perspective of companies. Authors – researchers from the PUEB’s Institute of International Business and Economics – share their research results, voice concerns, and offer recommendations on creating today’s world more immune to shocks and ready for unknowns. The pandemic of Covid-19 revealed many weaknesses of the global economy, national economies and states, business sectors, and individual companies. It’s undoubtedly the turning point, but simultaneously it’s an opportunity and a spur to change toward the new and sustainable normal.

Over the last two hundred years, Buddhists have witnessed incredible transformations, and often they have participated in making them. Throughout history, religious systems have been intimately connected to economics, politics, and societies. These relationships were profoundly affected in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with the loss of monarchies and the advents of print technology, capitalism, socialism, and the nation-state. Such transformations had enormous impacts on Buddhism. The changes manifested both within Buddhist populated countries and beyond through Buddhist transnational organizations and Buddhist diasporas. The Oxford Handbook of Contemporary Buddhism tracks these changes to Buddhists, their rituals, and beliefs in the colonial and postcolonial world. Leading scholars in Buddhism have authored 41 chapters, divided into two parts. Part I contains chapters on the historical transformation of Buddhist traditions around the world and their interactions with globalization. Each chapter provides a background for the Buddhist tradition and then the ways in which it has changed with modernity. These chapters range from the more familiar traditions, such as Tibetan Buddhism, to the less familiar, such as Buddhism in Latin America and Africa. Part II contains chapters devoted to particular themes and their interactions with Buddhism, such as Buddhist approaches to gender, sexual orientation, and race. These chapters also examine the impacts of subjects such as technology, music, and architecture on Buddhism, as well as changes to the academic study of Buddhism itself.

This book provides a comprehensive account of the Transeurasian languages, and is the first major reference work in the field since 1965. The term ‘Transeurasian’ refers to a large group of geographically adjacent languages that includes five uncontroversial linguistic families: Japonic, Koreanic, Tungusic, Mongolic, and Turkic. The historical connection between these languages, however, constitutes one of the most debated issues in historical comparative linguistics. In the present book, a team of leading international scholars in the field take a balanced approach to this controversy, integrating different theoretical frameworks, combining both functional and formal linguistics, and showing that genealogical and areal approaches are in fact compatible with each other. The volume is divided into five parts. Part I deals with the historical sources and periodization of the Transeurasian languages and their classification and typology. In Part II, chapters provide individual structural overviews of the Transeurasian languages and the linguistic subgroups that they belong to, while Part III explores Transeurasian phonology, morphology, syntax, lexis, and semantics from a comparative perspective. Part IV offers a range of areal and genealogical explanations for the correlations observed in the preceding parts. Finally, Part V combines archaeological, genetic, and anthropological perspectives on the identity of speakers of Transeurasian languages. The Oxford Guide to the Transeurasian Languages will be an indispensable resource for specialists in Japonic, Koreanic, Tungusic, Mongolic, and Turkic languages and for anyone with an interest in Transeurasian and comparative linguistics more broadly.

Black. Queer. Southern. Women.: An Oral History reveals how identity is made through race, gender, sexuality, class, and region. In particular, it centers the life stories of more than seventy Black, queer women from the U.S. South. With their lives and experiences as the focus, E. Patrick Johnson recasts a singular narrative of the South and illustrates the plurality of Black queer women’s identities. He also puts the complexity of Black female sexuality on display, drawing out multiple themes—childhood and adolescence; mother-daughter relationships; gender performances; religion and spirituality; sexual desires; dating and intimacy; and creative and political work. The interdisciplinary work blends oral history and performance ethnography methods to emphasize the rich tapestry of these women’s lives and give texture to their narratives. The book is divided into two parts. Part one, “G.R.I.T.S.: Stories of Growing Up Black, Female, and Queer,” is comprised of seven chapters and organized thematically, pulling out portions of women’s narratives that speak to each subject. Part two, “My Soul Looks Back and Wonders: Stories of Perseverance and Hope,” is comprised of six chapters, each of which delves into an individual woman’s narrative. Taken together, the sections reflect Johnson’s careful attention to the tension between history and biography; the structural and the interpersonal; the collective and the individual.

Action and Interaction is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the nature of action, starting with questions about action individuation, context, the notion of ?basic action? and the temporal structure of action. The importance of circumstance for understanding action is stressed. These topics lead to questions about intention and the sense of agency and ultimately to the idea that we need to consider action in the social contexts of interaction. The second part looks at the role of interaction in discussions of social cognition, building a contrast between standard theory- of-mind approaches and embodied/enactive accounts. Gallagher defends an enactive-interactionist account drawing on evidence from both phenomenology and empirical studies of development, ecological psychology, and studies of communicative and narrative practices, especially in more complex social practices. The third part transitions from considerations that focus on social-cognitive issues to understanding their implications for concepts that are basic to the development of a critical theory that addresses social and political issues, especially with respect to basic concepts of autonomy, recognition and justice, and the effects of norms and social institutions on our actions and interactions

This collection provides a guide to the mystical element of Christianity as a theological phenomenon. It differs not only from psychological and anthropological studies of mysticism, but from other theological studies, such as more practical or pastorally oriented works that examine the patterns of spiritual progress and offer counsel for deeper understanding and spiritual development. It also differs from more explicitly historical studies tracing the theological and philosophical contexts and ideas of various key figures and schools, as well as from literary studies of the linguistic tropes and expressive forms in mystical texts. None of these perspectives is absent, but the method here is more deliberately theological, working from within the fundamental interests of Christian mystical writers to the articulation of those interests in distinctively theological forms, in order, finally, to permit a critical theological engagement with them for today. Divided into four parts, the first section introduces the approach to mystical theology and offers a historical overview. Part II attends to the concrete context of sources and practices of mystical theology. Part III moves to the fundamental conceptualities of mystical thought. The final section presents the central contributions of mystical teaching to theology and metaphysics. Students and scholars with a variety of interests will find different pathways through the Handbook.

This book aims to document and reflect on the learnings from intervention programmes at three African higher education councils. It is clear that university leaders face many leadership and management challenges. This is the starting point of the book. More specific questions that are addressed include: The book commences with an introduction that sets the historical context for this initiative. The remainder of the book is divided into three main parts:

Christianity has endured longer than the greatest empires and had more influence than the grandest cultural achievements. Its texts still shape lives and many of its institutions still function. The Conclusion shows that a major reason for this success is the religion’s variety and potential for adaptation. The confluences and divergences between Church, Biblical, and Mystical Christianity are one aspect of Christian history, their interrelations with varied social contexts the other. In our contemporary world, Christianity is as vibrant—and as deeply divided—as at any point in its history. Attempts to forge unity between its various parts have largely been abandoned. How will liberalism and popular participation develop Christianity in its third millennium?

Abstract In the last three decades, considerable progress in mortality forecasting has been achieved, with new and more sophisticated models being introduced. Most of these forecasting models are based on the extrapolation of past trends, often assuming linear (or log-linear) development of mortality indicators, such as death rates or life expectancy. However, this assumption can be problematic in countries where mortality development has not been linear, such as in Denmark. Life expectancy in Denmark experienced stagnation from the 1980s until the mid-1990s. To avoid including the effect of the stagnation, Denmark’s official forecasts are based on data from 1990 only. This chapter is divided into three parts. First, we highlight and discuss some of the key methodological issues for mortality forecasting in Denmark. How many years of data are needed to forecast? Should linear extrapolation be used? Second, we compare the forecast performance of 11 models for Danish females and males and for period and cohort data. Finally, we assess the implications of the various forecasts for Danish society, and, in particular, their implications for future lifespan variability and age at retirement.

The chapter is divided into 5 parts. The first part describes what the satellite data is and describes the levels of its processing. In the second part, attention is paid to sea surface temperature anomalies, the conditions for the appearance of the most significant anomalies and their influence on the behavior and survival of aquatic organisms are described. The third part is devoted to calculating linear trends in ocean surface temperature from a 20-year series of satellite data. It is shown that the heat content of the surface layer of Okhotsk Sea decreases, most significantly in its northern and western parts. This trend is especially pronounced in the spring, which may be due to a decrease in ice cover and a more significant cooling of the waters due to winter convection. In the fourth part, periodic fluctuations in the temperature of the surface of the ocean are considered. It is demonstrated how, using the calculated trend and several basic harmonics, one can try to predict the temperature next year. And the last part concludes the chapter.

In Anaxagoras’s ontology, the Opposites are primitively numerically and qualitatively the same, and exist extremely mixed with each other, according to his ‘Everything in Everything Principle’. Their extreme mixture is facilitated by their being gunky, that is, divided into (proper) parts that have (proper parts) ad infinitum. The chapter examines how objects ‘emerge’ out of gunk, in this system, and how they are qualitatively differentiated in their extreme mixture. Anaxagoras’s ontology is built on a mathematical principle—the unlimited division of the Opposites—whereby Anaxagoras implicitly endorses what we might call the normativity of mathematics on the physical world, which we will encounter again in Plato’s theory of Forms. The chapter examines in more detail the constitution of objects as bundles of properties, which Plato will also adopt, and the reification of structure as seeds, a stance from which Plato will depart.

Optimization is now a crucial element in industrial applications involving sustainable alternative energy systems. During the design of such systems, the engineer/decision maker would often encounter noise factors when their system interacts with the environment (e.g., solar insolation and ambient temperature fluctuations). In this chapter, the sizing and design optimization of the solar powered irrigation system is considered. This problem is multivariate, noisy, nonlinear, and multiobjective (MO). This chapter is divided into two parts where two situations are considered during the optimization of the solar powered irrigation system. Part 1 is the MO design optimization of the mentioned system under constant weather conditions. Part 2 involves optimizing a more general form of the design problem by accounting for varying weather conditions, insolation, and ambient temperature. The details of the optimization procedures of the two cases are presented and discussed in this chapter.

Although the full work is his, he gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the late Christopher Brooke and Richard Duncan-Edwards, the latter for assisting with the text and translation. Prichard's book is divided into two more or less equal parts. The first part contains texts with translations on the facing pages of the statutes of Edmund Gonville; both the 1353 and 1355 versions of the statutes of William Bateman with John Caius's exposition of them; and the 1573 statutes of John Caius, with the significant modifications added after Caius's death by his friend Matthew Parker, then Archbishop of Canterbury. The second part of the book, titled ‘Background and Aftermath’ is a set of extensive essays. The ‘background’ essays discuss the circumstances in which the statutes of the three founders came into being. The five ‘aftermath’ essays explore topics on which Caius had left clear instructions, but which were either the subject of fierce dispute, or else quietly ignored. They are respectively: the Fellows and the Governing Body, the Master's powers of veto, the supposed preference to candidates from Norfolk, the remuneration of the Fellows, and their dividends.

Global competition among today’s enterprises forces their business processes to evolve constantly, leading to changes in corresponding Web-based application systems. Most existing approaches that extend the traditional software engineering to develop Web-based application systems are based on object-oriented methods. Such methods emphasize modeling individual object behaviors instead of system behavior. This chapter proposes the Business Process-Based Methodology (BPBM) for developing such systems. It uses a business process as a unified conceptual framework for analyzing relationships between a business process and associated business objects and for identifying business activities and designing object-oriented components called business components. We propose measures for coupling and cohesion measurement in order to ensure that these business components enable the potential reusability. These business components can more clearly represent semantic system behaviors than linkages of individual object behaviors. A change made to one business process impacts some encapsulated atomic components within the respective business component without affecting other parts of the system. A business component is divided into parts suitable for implementation of multitier Web-based application systems.

It is rare, however, to encounter writings questioning what is ‘value’, enquiring into its provenance, or examining its distribution amongst organization’s stakeholders. This chapter asks these very questions, focusing on Marx’s (1976) formulation of value theory. Divided into four parts, it begins by giving a basic overview of the labour theory of value, as developed by Marx in mid 19th century, industrialised England. The second part examines Roy Jacques’ (2000) critique of Marx, his rejection of the adequacy of ‘labour’ as a concept for analysing contemporary value production, and his call for a ‘knowledge theory of value’. The third section focuses on labour process theorist Paul Thompson (2005) and his challenge to the idea that labour and knowledge are fundamentally different. The fourth part extends this concern with ‘other’ forms of contemporary labour to a more global level by examining De Angelis’ (2006) and Retort’s (2005) suggestion that the global economy today is driven by acts of enclosure and ‘primitive accumulation.’

In 2019, two new Zlín Z-242 aircraft equipped with the Garmin G500 TXi glass cockpit were added to the fleet of the Air Training and Education Centre (LVVC). Therefore in the second, practical part we conducted a survey among instructors and students of LVVC on the issue discussed and their experience of training on this aircraft. In addition, we looked at how to effectively train pilots when using training aircraft with advanced avionics systems. Completion of the practical part of the paper was the creation of multimedia learning material, which should help novice pilots prepare for the use of basic features of Garmin G500 TXi and acquaint them with knowledge that will help especially the first flight hours to be more efficient as they begin the training on new aircraft

Solid-state smart actuators are widely utilized in a variety of micro and nano-positioning applications. Most of today’s modeling frameworks adopt lumped-parameter representation for system dynamics due to its more straightforward analysis and control. In this article, a distributed-parameters rod-like configuration is considered for free and forced motion analysis of structure. To include the effects of widely-used flexural mechanisms, a mass-spring-damper boundary condition is considered for the system. Moreover, the effect of electromechanical actuation is included as a concentrated force at the boundary. The problem is then divided into two parts: first part deals with free motion analysis of system to obtain eigenvalues and eigenfunctions using the expansion theorem and a standard eigenvalue problem procedure. The effects of different boundary mass and spring values on the natural frequencies and mode shapes are demonstrated, which indicate their significant contribution to system dynamical properties. In the second part, forced motion analysis of system and its state-space conversion tools are presented. It is shown that distributed-parameters modeling is inevitable when precision high frequency motions are demanded. This can enhance control bandwidth and performance of rod-like solid-state actuators such as piezoelectric and magnetostrictive positioners with moving to next generation digital signal processing systems which enable ultrahigh-frequency sampling rates.

Abstract Assembly Sequence Planning (ASP) is the generation of the best or optimal sequence to assemble a certain product, given its design files. Although many planners were introduced in research to solve this problem automatically, it is still solved manually in many advanced assembly firms. The reason behind this is that most introduced planners are very sensitive to large increases in product parts. In fact, most of these planners seek the exact solution, while performing a part basis decision process. As a result, they are trapped in tedious and exhaustive search procedures, which make them inefficient and sometimes obsolete. To overcome these difficulties, Sebaaly and Fujimoto (1996) introduced a new concept of ASP based on Genetic Algorithms application, where the search procedure is performed on a sequence population basis rather than a part basis, and a best sequence is generated without searching the complete set of potential candidates. This paper addresses the problem of improving the GA performance for assembly application, by introducing a new crossover operator. The genetic material can be divided and classified as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. The new crossover insures the maximum transmission of ‘good’ features from one generation to another. This results in a faster GA convergence. The performance of the new algorithm is compared with that of the ordinary matrix crossover for a modified industrial example, where it proved to be faster and more efficient.

Due to their very high applicable forces, frequencies and their stiffness, piezoceramics are feasible to serve as integrated actuators in machines. The application of piezo based components in production engineering was subject of plenty of investigations in the past. That focuses primarily on systems for condition monitoring, structural vibration reduction or chatter prevention. However there are currently also few approaches that aim to use piezo actuators for directly induced vibrations for improved machining processes. In this paper we present an overview of such systems, their parameters and the technological background. Known approaches will be classified and divided into groups considering their working principles, actuator performance and application technology. Ultra sonic machining (USM) for example is a comparatively old approach which applies ultrasonic vibrations of a sonotrode to an abrasive slurry for machining hard, brittle and nonconductive material. Vibration assisted machining (VAM) systems are rather different. They are characterized by low stroke, uncontrolled but highly frequent resonant vibrations of the tool to achieve enhanced chipping behavior or generally enable to machine certain hard materials. Fast Tool servo (FTS) systems are even more complex. They apply an overlaid controlled movement of the cutting edge to manufacture microstructures or possess to manufacture complex geometries like non circular bores or turned parts. Selected systems will be presented in detail showing their design approach, actuator parameters, control considerations and measurement data of manufactured parts. These will be for instance an ultrasonic deep hole drilling tool, a form honing system, an active spindle mounting for micro contouring and a piezo based machine table for manufacturing non circular bores in small workpieces. Summarized the existing systems will be compared considering their advantages and eventual hindrances. Beyond that the outlook will show problems, which need to be solved in the future to enable piezo assisted machining systems a more comprehensive application in manufacturing.

Abstract An algorithm and a computer program is developed for off-line programming of industrial robots for spray painting of curved surfaces. The study is initiated to find a more productive and repeatable, and thus higher quality method for painting of car body components in car body repair shops, where only the deformed region or part is straightened or replaced, and then painted. Body components of a specific car are modeled, and painting strategies, parameters and paths are determined. CAD models of relatively simple surfaces are formed by using the surface generation tools of the software. For parts with more complex surfaces, point data related to the part is collected by using a laser scanner, and this data is used to form the CAD model of the part surface. For paint (coating) thickness distribution analysis, the surface is divided into small elements, and their centroid coordinates and unit normals are determined. These properties are then used together with the spray distance, painting velocity and the paint flow rate flux for paint thickness analysis. Paint flow rate flux through the spray gun is determined by using experimental paint thickness distributions obtained by using different spray gun settings and painting parameters. Besides the technical specifications of the spray gun, air and paint nozzles, and paint needle; basic settings like paint tank pressure and gun needle-valve position affect paint cone angle and paint flowrate, which finally characterize the spray painting process. After deciding on an acceptable paint thickness distribution, the robot program is generated in the robot’s programming language. While moving along the path, the Cartesian position, velocity and orientation of the gun are necessary. Since there is no Cartesian input function available in the controller of the industrial robot used in this study, an inverse kinematic solution algorithm is developed to obtain the generated data in the joint space of the manipulator.

Abstract The realization of sculptured shapes using CAD systems is still today a very complex and time consuming operation. For these reasons, design by physical modeling is still in use and remains in force in many industries (automotive, ski boots, sport articles). For the manufacturing of complex free-form surfaces, in situations in which it is more desirable to proceed from a physical model to a numerical definition rather than use mathematics to derive the physical part, copy milling techniques are widely used. This paper gives a brief overview about copy milling techniques for 3 axis copy milling machines, and proposes a feature based method to support an automatic tool path generation for the super-finishing phase. The proposed method is divided in two parts: super-finishing features recognition and tool path generation. Using copy milling techniques, the model of the object to be milled is obtained by digitizing. Therefore a global mathematical surface description of the model does not exist. In such a situation a model interpretation phase is required to recognize the super-finishing features and thus proceed to the tool path generation. A two step algorithm for super-finishing feature recognition on a digitized model is proposed: features arc recognized on the basis of the digitized point density and the normal vectors of the triangles generated by the surface reconstruction (based on Delaunay triangulation method). The tool path is then generated using a method based on the calculation of the Voronoi diagram on the area identified as super-finishing feature. The super-finishing feature recognition and tool path generation modules have been integrated as part of a more general CAM system for copy milling called HICAM. The architecture of such a system will be presented together with examples of solutions obtained by means of the use of the implemented prototype modules.

But we notice a rich urban planning and architecture in these cities which were adapted with this hard situation. We can survey this adaptation in many aspects of traditional urban planning and architecture in Iran. They could build some building with a good energy saving and prepared some spaces with suitable condition for living. Desert has a harsh climate with hot days and cold nights but Iranians build their houses in such a way to keep warm temperature during nights in their walls and then it had cold walls in days to reduce the temperature of the rooms. Besides they divided their homes to two parts, one part for winter and the second for summer. In summer part they used wind tower to catch and bring the wind into rooms. These houses had central yards which contained pool and plants to reduce the temperature of hot days as well. Briefly, there is a special climatic design in traditional houses of hot cities of Iran. Urban planning of these cities respected some features to reduce the effect hot climate as well. For example, there was a dense urban fabric in these cities with narrow lanes. Also, they could achieve the problem of limitation of water by some intellectual technology which called Qanat. Locating of most of the urban elements of cities obeyed from these Qanats. This Qanat provided drinkable water of city and citizens used water by some traditional hydraulic structures such as water reservoir or baths or ice house and so on. Nowadays sustainable design in architecture and urban planning is an important and essential paradigm. This paradigm emphasized on adapting with nature instead destroying it. Traditional architecture and urban planning of these Iranian cities of hot and dry climate contains a lot of features which can be useful for urban development of future hot cities which will be developed by sustainable urban planning paradigm. Present day Centrifugal Compressor (CC) technology trend is moving towards innovative designs for improved performance. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) plays an important role in the assessment and improvement of CC component design. Statoric parts like inlet plenum, diffuser, return channel, and exit scroll play a vital role in determining the overall performance of any compressor. Exit scrolls (volute) are an integral part of any CC. A volute is essentially a flow collecting duct with its cross-section area increasing around the circumference as more volume of fluid is added. There are different types of volutes used for CC based on the type of application, casing size and the site conditions. The performance of a volute is very important in terms of magnitude of losses, static pressure recovery as well as impact on the upstream impeller. It is essential that the volute is well matched with the impeller and diffuser at the best stage efficiency point. In addition to that, some obstructions needed for mechanical purposes (spacers, bolts, grooves) result in more losses, decreasing overall compressor efficiency affecting severely the upstream impeller. The purpose of this paper is to describe an extensive CFD analysis that was performed to understand and quantify the negative impact arising due to the presence of spacers, their shapes and circumferential location on the performance of the whole compressor. The paper is divided into two sections. First section describes the CFD studies to understand performance of a typical scroll with spacers (boat tail spacers) as obstacles and effect of tangential location of spacers. The second section describes the CFD studies to understand the impact of the shape of spacers in a comparative manner.

Airline crew rostering is a complicated planning-type problem, and its objective is to assemble pairings into schedules that maximise the satisfaction levels of crews. The rostering process focuses on achieving a more balanced workload distribution among the crewmembers that allows designing rosters in the interest of the crew. The main purpose of the paper was to explain the fundamental aspects of airline crew rostering and its impact on crewmembers’ fatigue. Additionally, the research identified mitigation measures that airlines should make to combat or mitigate crewmembers’ fatigue when designing their rosters. The paper also allowed readers to understand the effects of fatigue on crew’s alertness and performance. The qualitative research methods (such as literature review) was used to understand the complexity of the airline crew rostering, the flight and duty time limitations, crew’s rest requirement and crewmembers’ fatigue. The survey was used as the quantitative research method to identify crewmembers’ satisfaction with their rosters that would help to optimise the rostering process. An online survey (using Google Forms) was distributed to potential respondents (experienced crewmembers) via email addresses and online platforms. Respondents were asked 18 close ended questions divided into two parts (demographic and operational experience). One hundred eleven responses were gathered, which showed that age plays a crucial role in crewmembers’ fatigue. In addition, cargo pilots are usually more dissatisfied with their rosters due to exhausting flight duty periods at nights.

This document is part of a series of technical notes describing the compilation of a new companion database that complements the World Income Inequality Database. It aims at facilitating the analysis of inequality as well as progress in achieving the global goal of reducing inequality within and across countries. This new dataset also includes an annual series reporting the income distribution at the percentile level for all citizens in the world, regardless of where they live, since 1950 to present. A previous note described the selection of income distribution series. Since these series may differ across welfare concepts and other methods used, this technical note describes the second stage, constructing integrated and standardized country series. It discusses all the necessary adjustments conducted to construct the final series for each country, with consistent estimates of the distribution of net income per capita over the entire period for which information is available. This is mainly divided into two stages. First, integrating country series by interlinking series that overlap over time, then using a more general regression-based approach.

Syvash, Kateryna. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK AS AN ELEMENT OF PARASOCIAL COMMUNICATION WITH SCREEN MEDIA-PERSONS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Februar 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11062.

Parasocial communication is defined as an illusory and one-sided interaction between the viewer and the media person, which is analogous to interpersonal communication. Among the classic media, television has the greatest potential for such interaction through a combination of audio and visual series and a wide range of television content – from newscasts to talent shows. Viewers’ reaction to this product can be seen as a defining element of parasociality and directly affect the popularity of a media person and the ratings of the TV channel. In this article we will consider feedback as part of parasocial communication and describe ways to express it in times of media transformations. The psychological interaction «media person – viewer» had been the focus of research by both psychologists and media experts for over 60 years. During the study, scientists described the predictors, functions, manifestations and possible consequences of paracommunication. One of the key elements of the formed parasocial connections is the real audience reaction. Our goal is to conceptualize the concept of feedback in the paradigm of parasocial communication and describe the main types of reactions to the media person in long-term parasocial relationships. The research focuses on the ways in which the viewer’s feedback on the television media person is expressed, bypassing the issue of classifying the audience’s feedback as «positive» and «negative». For this purpose, more than 20 interdisciplinary scientific works on the issue of parasocial interaction were analyzed and their generalization was carried out. Based on previous research, the types and methods of feedback in the television context are separated. With successful parasocial interaction, the viewer can react in different ways to the media person. The type of feedback will directly depend on the strength of the already established communication with the media person. We distinguish seven types of feedback and divide them into those that occur during or after a television show; those that are spontaneous or planned; aimed directly at the media person or third parties. We offer the following types of feedback from TV viewers: «talking to the TV»; telling about the experience of parasocial communication to others; following on social networks; likes and comments; imitation of behavior and appearance; purchase of recommended brands; fanart.

Tweet, Justin S., Vincent L. Santucci, Kenneth Convery, Jonathan Hoffman und Laura Kirn. Channel Islands National Park: Paleontological resource inventory (public version). National Park Service, September 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2278664.

Channel Island National Park (CHIS), incorporating five islands off the coast of southern California (Anacapa Island, San Miguel Island, Santa Barbara Island, Santa Cruz Island, and Santa Rosa Island), has an outstanding paleontological record. The park has significant fossils dating from the Late Cretaceous to the Holocene, representing organisms of the sea, the land, and the air. Highlights include: the famous pygmy mammoths that inhabited the conjoined northern islands during the late Pleistocene; the best fossil avifauna of any National Park Service (NPS) unit; intertwined paleontological and cultural records extending into the latest Pleistocene, including Arlington Man, the oldest well-dated human known from North America; calichified “fossil forests”; records of Miocene desmostylians and sirenians, unusual sea mammals; abundant Pleistocene mollusks illustrating changes in sea level and ocean temperature; one of the most thoroughly studied records of microfossils in the NPS; and type specimens for 23 fossil taxa. Paleontological research on the islands of CHIS began in the second half of the 19th century. The first discovery of a mammoth specimen was reported in 1873. Research can be divided into four periods: 1) the few early reports from the 19th century; 2) a sustained burst of activity in the 1920s and 1930s; 3) a second burst from the 1950s into the 1970s; and 4) the modern period of activity, symbolically opened with the 1994 discovery of a nearly complete pygmy mammoth skeleton on Santa Rosa Island. The work associated with this paleontological resource inventory may be considered the beginning of a fifth period. Fossils were specifically mentioned in the 1938 proclamation establishing what was then Channel Islands National Monument, making CHIS one of 18 NPS areas for which paleontological resources are referenced in the enabling legislation. Each of the five islands of CHIS has distinct paleontological and geological records, each has some kind of fossil resources, and almost all of the sedimentary formations on the islands are fossiliferous within CHIS. Anacapa Island and Santa Barbara Island, the two smallest islands, are primarily composed of Miocene volcanic rocks interfingered with small quantities of sedimentary rock and covered with a veneer of Quaternary sediments. Santa Barbara stands apart from Anacapa because it was never part of Santarosae, the landmass that existed at times in the Pleistocene when sea level was low enough that the four northern islands were connected. San Miguel Island, Santa Cruz Island, and Santa Rosa Island have more complex geologic histories. Of these three islands, San Miguel Island has relatively simple geologic structure and few formations. Santa Cruz Island has the most varied geology of the islands, as well as the longest rock record exposed at the surface, beginning with Jurassic metamorphic and intrusive igneous rocks. The Channel Islands have been uplifted and faulted in a complex 20-million-year-long geologic episode tied to the collision of the North American and Pacific Places, the initiation of the San Andreas fault system, and the 90° clockwise rotation of the Transverse Ranges, of which the northern Channel Islands are the westernmost part. Widespread volcanic activity from about 19 to 14 million years ago is evidenced by the igneous rocks found on each island.

HEFNER, Robert. IHSAN ETHICS AND POLITICAL REVITALIZATION Appreciating Muqtedar Khan’s Islam and Good Governance. IIIT, Oktober 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.47816/01.001.20.

Annotation:
Ours is an age of pervasive political turbulence, and the scale of the challenge requires new thinking on politics as well as public ethics for our world. In Western countries, the specter of Islamophobia, alt-right populism, along with racialized violence has shaken public confidence in long-secure assumptions rooted in democracy, diversity, and citizenship. The tragic denouement of so many of the Arab uprisings together with the ascendance of apocalyptic extremists like Daesh and Boko Haram have caused an even greater sense of alarm in large parts of the Muslim-majority world. It is against this backdrop that M.A. Muqtedar Khan has written a book of breathtaking range and ethical beauty. The author explores the history and sociology of the Muslim world, both classic and contemporary. He does so, however, not merely to chronicle the phases of its development, but to explore just why the message of compassion, mercy, and ethical beauty so prominent in the Quran and Sunna of the Prophet came over time to be displaced by a narrow legalism that emphasized jurisprudence, punishment, and social control. In the modern era, Western Orientalists and Islamists alike have pushed the juridification and interpretive reification of Islamic ethical traditions even further. Each group has asserted that the essence of Islam lies in jurisprudence (fiqh), and both have tended to imagine this legal heritage on the model of Western positive law, according to which law is authorized, codified, and enforced by a leviathan state. “Reification of Shariah and equating of Islam and Shariah has a rather emaciating effect on Islam,” Khan rightly argues. It leads its proponents to overlook “the depth and heights of Islamic faith, mysticism, philosophy or even emotions such as divine love (Muhabba)” (13). As the sociologist of Islamic law, Sami Zubaida, has similarly observed, in all these developments one sees evidence, not of a traditionalist reassertion of Muslim values, but a “triumph of Western models” of religion and state (Zubaida 2003:135). To counteract these impoverishing trends, Khan presents a far-reaching analysis that “seeks to move away from the now failed vision of Islamic states without demanding radical secularization” (2). He does so by positioning himself squarely within the ethical and mystical legacy of the Qur’an and traditions of the Prophet. As the book’s title makes clear, the key to this effort of religious recovery is “the cosmology of Ihsan and the worldview of Al-Tasawwuf, the science of Islamic mysticism” (1-2). For Islamist activists whose models of Islam have more to do with contemporary identity politics than a deep reading of Islamic traditions, Khan’s foregrounding of Ihsan may seem unfamiliar or baffling. But one of the many achievements of this book is the skill with which it plumbs the depth of scripture, classical commentaries, and tasawwuf practices to recover and confirm the ethic that lies at their heart. “The Quran promises that God is with those who do beautiful things,” the author reminds us (Khan 2019:1). The concept of Ihsan appears 191 times in 175 verses in the Quran (110). The concept is given its richest elaboration, Khan explains, in the famous hadith of the Angel Gabriel. This tradition recounts that when Gabriel appeared before the Prophet he asked, “What is Ihsan?” Both Gabriel’s question and the Prophet’s response make clear that Ihsan is an ideal at the center of the Qur’an and Sunna of the Prophet, and that it enjoins “perfection, goodness, to better, to do beautiful things and to do righteous deeds” (3). It is this cosmological ethic that Khan argues must be restored and implemented “to develop a political philosophy … that emphasizes love over law” (2). In its expansive exploration of Islamic ethics and civilization, Khan’s Islam and Good Governance will remind some readers of the late Shahab Ahmed’s remarkable book, What is Islam? The Importance of Being Islamic (Ahmed 2016). Both are works of impressive range and spiritual depth. But whereas Ahmed stood in the humanities wing of Islamic studies, Khan is an intellectual polymath who moves easily across the Islamic sciences, social theory, and comparative politics. He brings the full weight of his effort to conclusion with policy recommendations for how “to combine Sufism with political theory” (6), and to do so in a way that recommends specific “Islamic principles that encourage good governance, and politics in pursuit of goodness” (8).
