Cross-connection is a construction of regular semigroups using certain categories called normal categories which are abstractions of the partially ordered sets of principal left (right) ideals of a semigroup. We describe the cross-connections in the semigroup [Formula: see text] of all non-invertible transformations on a set [Formula: see text]. The categories involved are characterized as the powerset category [Formula: see text] and the category of partitions [Formula: see text]. We describe these categories and show how a permutation on [Formula: see text] gives rise to a cross-connection. Further, we prove that every cross-connection between them is induced by a permutation and construct the regular semigroups that arise from the cross-connections. We show that each of the cross-connection semigroups arising this way is isomorphic to [Formula: see text]. We also describe the right reductive subsemigroups of [Formula: see text] with the category of principal left ideals isomorphic to [Formula: see text]. This study sheds light into the more general theory of cross-connections and also provides an alternate way of studying the structure of [Formula: see text].

The present paper deals with an intrinsic generalization of the conformal change and energy β-change on a Finsler manifold (M.L.), namely the energy β-conformal change ([Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text]; [Formula: see text] being a concurrent π-vector field and σ(x) is a function on M). The relation between the two Barthel connections Γ and [Formula: see text], corresponding to this change, is found. This relation, together with the fact that the Cartan and the Barthel connections have the same horizontal and vertical projectors, enable us to study the energy β-conformal change of the fundamental linear connection in Finsler geometry: the Cartan connection, the Berwald connection, the Chern connection and the Hashiguchi connection. Moreover, the change of their curvature tensors is obtained. It should be pointed out that the present work is formulated in a prospective modern coordinate-free form.

A completely simple semigroup [Formula: see text] is a semigroup without zero which has no proper ideals and contains a primitive idempotent. It is known that [Formula: see text] is a regular semigroup and any completely simple semigroup is isomorphic to the Rees matrix semigroup [Formula: see text] (cf. D. Rees, On semigroups, Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 36 (1940) 387–400). In the study of structure theory of regular semigroups, Nambooripad introduced the concept of normal categories to construct the semigroup from its principal left (right) ideals using cross-connections. A normal category [Formula: see text] is a small category with subobjects wherein each object of the category has an associated idempotent normal cone and each morphism admits a normal factorization. A cross-connection between two normal categories [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is a local isomorphism [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is the normal dual of the category [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we identify the normal categories associated with a completely simple semigroup [Formula: see text] and show that the semigroup of normal cones [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to a semi-direct product [Formula: see text]. We characterize the cross-connections in this case and show that each sandwich matrix [Formula: see text] correspond to a cross-connection. Further we use each of these cross-connections to give a representation of the completely simple semigroup as a cross-connection semigroup.

Graded bundles are a particularly nice class of graded manifolds and represent a natural generalization of vector bundles. By exploiting the formalism of supermanifolds to describe Lie algebroids, we define the notion of a weighted[Formula: see text]-connection on a graded bundle. In a natural sense weighted [Formula: see text]-connections are adapted to the basic geometric structure of a graded bundle in the same way as linear [Formula: see text]-connections are adapted to the structure of a vector bundle. This notion generalizes directly to multi-graded bundles and in particular we present the notion of a bi-weighted[Formula: see text]-connection on a double vector bundle. We prove the existence of such adapted connections and use them to define (quasi-)actions of Lie algebroids on graded bundles.

Compatible linear connections are introduced as a natural extension of similar notions from Weyl geometry and such a connection is unique if a symmetry condition is imposed. In the foliated case the local expression of this unique connection is obtained. The notion of Vranceanu connection is introduced for a pair (Weyl structure, distribution) and it is computed for the tangent bundle of Finsler spaces, particularly Riemannian, choosing as distribution the vertical bundle of tangent bundle projection and as one-form the Cartan form.

The maximal dimension of the Lie algebra of [Formula: see text]-projective symmetries of a complex connection on an almost complex manifold of [Formula: see text]-dimension [Formula: see text] is classically known to be [Formula: see text]. We prove that the submaximal dimension is equal to [Formula: see text]. If the complex connection is minimal (encoded as a normal parabolic geometry), the harmonic curvature of the [Formula: see text]-projective structure has three components and we specify the submaximal symmetry dimensions and the corresponding geometric models for each of these three pure curvature types. If the connection is non-minimal, we introduce a modified normalization condition on the parabolic geometry and use this to resolve the symmetry gap problem. We prove that the submaximal symmetry dimension in the class of Levi-Civita connections for pseudo-Kähler metrics is [Formula: see text], and specializing to the Kähler case, we obtain [Formula: see text]. This resolves the symmetry gap problem for metrizable [Formula: see text]-projective structures.

We study the complexity of the following cell connection problems in segment arrangements. Given a set of straight-line segments in the plane and two points [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in different cells of the induced arrangement: [(i)] compute the minimum number of segments one needs to remove so that there is a path connecting [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] that does not intersect any of the remaining segments; [(ii)] compute the minimum number of segments one needs to remove so that the arrangement induced by the remaining segments has a single cell. Most notably, we provide a near-linear-time algorithm for a variant of problem (i) where the path connecting [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] must stay inside a given polygon [Formula: see text] with a constant number of holes, the segments are contained in [Formula: see text], and the endpoints of the segments are on the boundary of [Formula: see text]. The analytical method used in this article is based on a typology developed by Gerard Genette. Using this typology, an analysis of transtextual connections present in the text was conducted. The analysis of paratextual connections in the texts made it possible to make an assumption that all the novels are connected by a specular structure. A closer inspection of the intertextual connection and references presented in the text established a connection with certain works of Nabokov. These references to various works of Nabokov allow to view Pelevin’s collection of short stories not as thematically disconnected narratives but as one cohesive entity.

Our first goal is to prove that there are certain generalized frame and/or jet transforms and prolongations with [Formula: see text] into explicit classes of solutions of some generalized Einstein equations [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], encoding various types of (nonholonomic) Ricci soliton configurations and/or jet variables and symmetries. The second goal is to solve additional constraint equations for zero torsion, [Formula: see text], on generalized solutions constructed in explicit forms with jet variables and extract Levi-Civita configurations. This allows us to find generic off-diagonal exact solutions depending on all space time coordinates on [Formula: see text] via generating and integration functions and various classes of constant jet parameters and associated symmetries. Our third goal is to study how such generalized metrics and connections can be related by the so-called “half-conformal” and/or jet deformations of certain subclasses of solutions with one, or two, Killing symmetries. Finally, we present some examples of exact solutions constructed as nonholonomic jet prolongations of the Kerr metrics, with possible Ricci soliton deformations, and characterized by nonholonomic jet structures and generalized connections.

This paper presents a general framework for the study of the relations between hypergraphs and hypergroups based on approximation operators. Indeed, by a given hypergraph [Formula: see text], an equivalence relation [Formula: see text] on the set of vertices and using the notion of lower and upper approximations, we investigate two new hyperoperations on the set of vertices. In particular, by considering certain conditions on the equivalence relation [Formula: see text], we obtain two related [Formula: see text]-groups and we prove some results in this respect.

We investigate other aspects of this system such as non-uniquely representable numbers, an inherent semigroup structure, connections with Wythoff's game, related sequences of rational functions, and its connection with an iterative scheme reminiscent of paper folding analysis. Many details of the above-mentioned connections are conjectural.

A connection between linearized Gauss–Bonnet gravity and classical electrodynamics is found by developing a procedure which can be used to derive completely gauge-invariant models. The procedure involves building the most general Lagrangian for a particular order of derivatives ([Formula: see text]) and a rank of tensor potential ([Formula: see text]), then solving such that the model is completely gauge-invariant (the Lagrangian density, equation of motion and energy–momentum tensor are all gauge-invariant). In the case of [Formula: see text] order of derivatives and [Formula: see text] rank of tensor potential, electrodynamics is uniquely derived from the procedure. In the case of [Formula: see text] order of derivatives and [Formula: see text] rank of symmetric tensor potential, linearized Gauss–Bonnet gravity is uniquely derived from the procedure. The natural outcome of the models for classical electrodynamics and linearized Gauss–Bonnet gravity from a common set of rules provides an interesting connection between two well-explored physical models.

Furthermore, we mainly research the connection of these generalized conformal derivations. Finally, the conformal [Formula: see text]-derivations of Lie conformal algebras are studied. The concept of monochromatic connectivity was introduced by Caro and Yuster. A path in an edge-colored graph is called a monochromatic path if all the edges on the path are colored the same. An edge-coloring of [Formula: see text] is a monochromatic connection coloring ([Formula: see text]-coloring, for short) if there is a monochromatic path joining any two vertices in [Formula: see text]. The monochromatic connection number, denoted by [Formula: see text], is defined to be the maximum number of colors used in an [Formula: see text]-coloring of a graph [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we study the monochromatic connection number on the lexicographical, strong, Cartesian and direct products and present several upper and lower bounds for these products of graphs.

The American Institute of Steel Construction Proposed Load and Resistance Factor Design Specification recognizes the ability of connections that function as less than fully rigid to transmit limited moments and to provide some measure of end restraint to columns in its definition of partially restrained (PR) construction. An analytical procedure for determining the response up to collapse of subassemblages in which semirigid beam-to-column connections are present is derived. This employs a nonlinear finite element column analysis together with analytical representation of experimentally determined connection moment–rotation [Formula: see text] curves. To trace the full response under any load path produced by a combination of beam loads and direct column load, it is necessary to allow for possible reversal in the direction of rotation of any of the connections. The program is used to study the effect of different connection types (ranging from very flexible web cleats to almost rigid extended end plates) and different load paths on column behaviour in nonsway subassemblages. It is found that the degree of rotation required from each connection is an important parameter in determining column response. In the Jordan frame, we present the general analytic expression for [Formula: see text] models that have the same expansion history as the [Formula: see text]CDM model. This analytic form can provide further insights on how cosmology can be used to test the [Formula: see text] gravity at the largest scales. Moreover we present a systematic and self-consistent way to construct the viable [Formula: see text] model in Jordan frame using the mass dilation rate function from the Einstein frame through the conformal transformation. In addition, we extend our study to the linear perturbation theories and we further exhibit the equivalence of the [Formula: see text] gravity presented in the Jordan frame and Einstein frame in the perturbed space–time. We argue that this equivalence has solid physics root.
