Cross-connection is a construction of regular semigroups using certain categories called normal categories which are abstractions of the partially ordered sets of principal left (right) ideals of a semigroup. We describe the cross-connections in the semigroup [Formula: see text] of all non-invertible transformations on a set [Formula: see text]. The categories involved are characterized as the powerset category [Formula: see text] and the category of partitions [Formula: see text]. We describe these categories and show how a permutation on [Formula: see text] gives rise to a cross-connection. Further, we prove that every cross-connection between them is induced by a permutation and construct the regular semigroups that arise from the cross-connections. We show that each of the cross-connection semigroups arising this way is isomorphic to [Formula: see text]. We also describe the right reductive subsemigroups of [Formula: see text] with the category of principal left ideals isomorphic to [Formula: see text]. This study sheds light into the more general theory of cross-connections and also provides an alternate way of studying the structure of [Formula: see text].

The relation between the two Barthel connections Γ and [Formula: see text], corresponding to this change, is found. This relation, together with the fact that the Cartan and the Barthel connections have the same horizontal and vertical projectors, enable us to study the energy β-conformal change of the fundamental linear connection in Finsler geometry: the Cartan connection, the Berwald connection, the Chern connection and the Hashiguchi connection. Moreover, the change of their curvature tensors is obtained. It should be pointed out that the present work is formulated in a prospective modern coordinate-free form.

The invariant metrizability problem for affine connections on a manifold, formulated by Tanaka and Krupka for connected Lie groups actions, is considered in the particular cases of Lorentz and Poincaré (inhomogeneous Lorentz) groups. Conditions under which an affine connection on the open submanifold [Formula: see text] of the Euclidean space [Formula: see text] coincides with the Levi-Civita connection of some [Formula: see text], respectively [Formula: see text]-invariant metric field are studied. We give complete description of metrizable Lorentz-invariant connections. Explicit solutions (metric fields) of the invariant metrizability equations are found and their properties are discussed.

A completely simple semigroup [Formula: see text] is a semigroup without zero which has no proper ideals and contains a primitive idempotent. It is known that [Formula: see text] is a regular semigroup and any completely simple semigroup is isomorphic to the Rees matrix semigroup [Formula: see text] (cf. D. Rees, On semigroups, Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 36 (1940) 387–400). In the study of structure theory of regular semigroups, Nambooripad introduced the concept of normal categories to construct the semigroup from its principal left (right) ideals using cross-connections. A normal category [Formula: see text] is a small category with subobjects wherein each object of the category has an associated idempotent normal cone and each morphism admits a normal factorization. A cross-connection between two normal categories [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is a local isomorphism [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is the normal dual of the category [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we identify the normal categories associated with a completely simple semigroup [Formula: see text] and show that the semigroup of normal cones [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to a semi-direct product [Formula: see text]. We characterize the cross-connections in this case and show that each sandwich matrix [Formula: see text] correspond to a cross-connection. Further we use each of these cross-connections to give a representation of the completely simple semigroup as a cross-connection semigroup.

Graded bundles are a particularly nice class of graded manifolds and represent a natural generalization of vector bundles. By exploiting the formalism of supermanifolds to describe Lie algebroids, we define the notion of a weighted[Formula: see text]-connection on a graded bundle. In a natural sense weighted [Formula: see text]-connections are adapted to the basic geometric structure of a graded bundle in the same way as linear [Formula: see text]-connections are adapted to the structure of a vector bundle. This notion generalizes directly to multi-graded bundles and in particular we present the notion of a bi-weighted[Formula: see text]-connection on a double vector bundle. We prove the existence of such adapted connections and use them to define (quasi-)actions of Lie algebroids on graded bundles.

Compatible linear connections are introduced as a natural extension of similar notions from Weyl geometry and such a connection is unique if a symmetry condition is imposed. In the foliated case the local expression of this unique connection is obtained. The notion of Vranceanu connection is introduced for a pair (Weyl structure, distribution) and it is computed for the tangent bundle of Finsler spaces, particularly Riemannian, choosing as distribution the vertical bundle of tangent bundle projection and as one-form the Cartan form.

We recover the classical formulas of torsion and metric compatibility of a connection in the covariant derivative form. As a result, a Koszul formula for the Levi-Civita connection is also derived.

The impact of computer-mediated communication (CMC) on relational behavior is a topic of increasing interest to communication scholars (McQuillen, 2003; Tidwell & Walther, 2002). One of the most interesting issues that CMC raises concerns the impact of CMC on relational maintenance and development. Using dialectical theory, social exchange theory, social information processing theory, and the hyperpersonal perspective as theoretical frameworks, this study used quantitative and qualitative analyses to identity potential effects of CMC on relationships. Study 1 (n=317) examined the effects of CMC on relational closeness, satisfaction, and social support. Study 2 (n=196) explored the reasons individuals provide for privileging computer-mediated forms of communication, and the perceived effects of using CMC in relational communication. Results indicated that quality of CMC predicted increased perceptions of social support and relationship satisfaction. Results further suggested that CMC enabled participants to manage more effectively relational tensions of autonomy-connection and openness-closedness. Specifically, individuals used CMC to retain higher levels of conversational control, and to maintain greater numbers of relationships with decreased levels of investment. This paper concludes with a discussion of implications and directions for future research.

This study examined the relationship between adolescents' use of texting and their level of identity development, cognitive autonomy, and self-esteem. One hundred and nineteen Utah State University students participated in this study by filling out a questionnaire that included a section designed specifically to learn the texting habits of the participants, and also included sections derived from previously existing measures on identity, autonomy, and self-esteem. The results show statistical significance of age and texting. Participants who were 23 years+ sent significantly less than those participants who were 19-22 years. Areas of gender, identity, and self-esteem were also analyzed. Implications of these findings for future research were also discussed.

This commentary describes how my compositions in the last four years have been based upon models of human and animal vocal utterances, including both textual and paralinguistic elements, and how they strengthen the connection between text and music especially via synthetic relationships, based on the reproduction of the microscopic sound features of the voices which utter text. The textual elements are projected into the speech domain, thus acquiring uniqueness and including in the composition the aura of the being whose voice is analysed and later re-synthesised by the instruments involved. Varied repetition is used to feature text at multiple levels of enlargement, or filtering stages. All these occurrences of the same textual material have been regarded as nodes of a rhizome, since I conceived them as windows on to plateaux with different temporal scales or filtering processes, all intersecting a clearly defined socio-political plateau. The window form proved very useful for the inclusion of improvisation-based blocks and for the incorporation of elements from previously existing compositions into new ones. The Deleuzian concept of the rhizome created a suitable frame for the main aspects of my research and, since the change of analytical methodology in the course of the portfolio reflects my growing interest in perception, it is my intention to proceed along the path shown by Deleuze and Bergson to investigate the concepts of repetition and memory. Within the portfolio, the socio-political layer is at first determined by the content of the text, but later also by the identity of the person uttering the text and the techniques (s)he uses, so that in one of my compositions I successfully embedded music belonging to a non-Western culture. These trends show a future path for my research – namely, the identification of social differences among individuals and the detection of the traces of trauma through the analysis of their voices.

Electrical connectors are the blocks that connect solar panels together. Whenever a photovoltaic plant commences, the main discussion goes around on solar panels, inverters, charge controllers, etc. But the topic of connectors is usually hardly discussed. Connectors in a photovoltaic system can definitely contribute to improve the overall performance of the system, provided that importance is given while selecting the connectors. The electrical connectors used in photovoltaic systems can be connected in two possible ways. Connectors can be connected either in a pure-connection or in a cross-connection. Male and female connectors from the same brand results a pure-connection (P-C). Male and female connectors from two different brands results in a cross-connection (C-C). There have been discussions in photovoltaic, electrical connector markets and international solar events regarding the risks involved, losses and consequences due to a cross-connection. The main reason behind cross-connections is the unawareness of the installers in knowing the difference between a pure-connection and a cross-connection. Even though the installers are aware of this difference, they are not aware of the consequences of cross-connections. Multi-Contact, a leading electrical connector manufacturer of MC4 photovoltaic connectors affected by the counterfeit products of MC4, due to the sudden boom in the solar market during 2011-12. With the help of TÜV Rheinland, Multi-Contact conducted couple of tests namely temperature increase test and accelerated stress tests to understand the disadvantages of cross-connections. This thesis tried to replicate the tests performed by Multi-Contact in an attempt to understand the test results by using connectors that are used in the Swedish market. Performing temperature increase test and accelerated stress tests on most commonly used connectors in the Swedish market is the main aim of this thesis. The first test, gives an understanding of the temperature variations across various connector sets (four connector sets from various manufacturers used in this thesis) and the latter tests helps to understand the quality of the contact resistance of these connector sets. The four connector set manufacturers used in this test were Multi-Contact (MC), Weidmüller (WM), Blussun solar (BSS) and PBM. The quality of contact resistance of a connector is directly related to the quality of the connector set. During the 20 minutes of the temperature increase test, the connector set from WM performed better than its competitors in the P-C. Whereas, the MC-BSS connector set had performed well in the C-C. The connector type of male MC and female BSS showed its dominance throughout the test. Unfortunately, no conclusions were able to be drawn from this test results due to insufficient information about the test procedure. From the results of accelerated stress tests, the C-C set from MC outperformed its P-C counterpart. All ten connector sets used in this project passed the standard and qualified as connectors with good quality contact resistance. Therefore the best results out of only a P-C connector set does not seems to be completely true. With the standard used in this thesis, it is quite difficult to judge the quality of connectors. Rather than saying a P-C is superior and a C-C is inferior in terms of quality, there is a need to come up with a new method to evaluate the quality of connectors. Matching the connectors based on their tolerances could be a potential solution to the mismatching problem in connectors.

This thesis investigates the relationships between cohesion in texts and the meanings of the texts. I analyze hard news texts and the summaries written by competent readers for the texts in terms of nuclei (i.e. the combinations of Process and Medium) (Halliday, 1994), and examine the characteristics of the nuclei that recur in a text and are also considered as important to the meaning of the text. There are two main findings of my present study. The first is that when two or more recurrent nuclei in a text are considered as important to the meaning of the text, the relationship in the lead that holds between the nuclei are also thought of as important to the text's meaning. This finding provides evidence for the claim made by many linguists that the conjunctive relations that hold between the propositions in a passage are important to the meaning of the passage. The other main finding of my study is that when the nuclei that are considered as important to the meanings of the texts in which they occur are found in leads, they have a strong tendency to occur in primary or independent clauses; on the other hand, when the nuclei occurring in leads are however not considered as important to the meanings of the texts in which they occur, they tend to occur in secondary or embedded clauses. This finding indicates that the distribution of information in leads is not random. The propositions in a lead that are important to the meaning of the text in which they occur are often foregrounded in major types of clause, while those that are not thought of as important to the meaning of the text are often backgrounded in minor types of clause.

The purpose of this study is to describe from a didactic point of view how teachers work with reading aloud and reading comprehension strategies. This is based on the fact that if the teacher does not always involve reading strategies in reading that develop students' reading comprehension, it can lead to reading difficulties. At the end of third grade, a goal is also for pupils to have developed a basic reading comprehension. There is also a lack of research on Swedish reading education. In this study, the following questions are based: What reading comprehension strategies does the reading aim to develop among pupils and how do teachers reason about their teaching? Do teachers use a working material when they teach reading aloud, and how do teachers reflect on it? The survey is based on observations and an interview and teachers' speech documents. The theoretical framework of the study builds Barbro Westlund's teori on reading aloud and reading comprehension strategies. The results of the survey show that the reading is a working method and reading comprehension strategies are included. Teachers need to discuss new word meaning and let pupils predict what the text will be about by looking at the title and the book's illustrations. The teacher should allow pupils to summarize and discuss questions that the text may have raised with the pupil. The pupils should also be involved by connecting the text to their own experiences and answering thought-developing questions. This can make it easier for the teacher to start reading on the basis of a work material that has a clear connection to reading comprehension strategies in order to be able to conduct a teaching where more pupils develop a basic reading comprehension at the end of year three.

AbstractDesign needs language and text so that it can be negotiated intersubjectively and become capable of connection to other academic disciplines. Texts, however, do not objectively reflect realities but rather bring them forth through their own medium: academic, journalistic, essayistic, and literary texts afford very particular ways of viewing the world. Scientific truths are produced narratively as well—at least from the constructivist perspective. This is particularly the case for the texts of design ethnography, in which a story-telling quality is inherent and which may take on subjectivist perspectives. These aspects of design ethnography must be consciously reflected in the process.

Annotation:

The connection between messaging and action is fundamental both to web applications, such as web search and sentiment analysis, and to economics. However, while prominent online applications exploit messaging in natural (human) language in order to predict non-strategic action selection, the economics literature focuses on the connection between structured stylized messaging to strategic decisions in games and multi-agent encounters. This paper aims to connect these two strands of research, which we consider highly timely and important due to the vast online textual communication on the web. Particularly, we introduce the following question: can free text expressed in natural language serve for the prediction of action selection in an economic context, modeled as a game? We initiate research on this question by providing preliminary positive results.

Text classification is a fundamental task in many Natural Language Processing applications. While recurrent neural networks have achieved great success in performing text classification, they fail to capture the hierarchical structure and long-term semantics dependency which are common features of text data. Inspired by the advent of the dense connection pattern in advanced convolutional neural networks, we propose a simple yet effective recurrent architecture, named Hierarchical Mutiscale Densely Connected RNNs (HM-DenseRNNs), which: 1) enables direct access to the hidden states of all preceding recurrent units via dense connections, and 2) organizes multiple densely connected recurrent units into a hierarchical multi-scale structure, where the layers are updated at different scales. HM-DenseRNNs can effectively capture long-term dependencies among words in long text data, and a dense recurrent block is further introduced to reduce the number of parameters and enhance training efficiency. We evaluate the performance of our proposed architecture on three text datasets and the results verify the advantages of HM-DenseRNN over the baseline methods in terms of the classification accuracy.

Abstract Understanding the structural limits of subsea connectors used in offshore environments is critical to ensure safe operations. The latest industry standards establish the requirement for physical testing to validate analysis methodologies for connector designs. In this paper, an analysis methodology, compliant with the latest API 17G standard, is presented for calculating structural capacities of non-preloaded connectors. The methodology has been developed for complex combined loading scenarios and validated using full-scale physical testing for different connector families. Detailed 3-D, non-linear, finite element models were developed for three different non-preloaded connections, which consisted of threaded and load shoulder connectors. A comprehensive set of combined tension and bending moment structural capacities at normal, extreme and survival conditions were calculated for each connection. The calculated capacities were validated for each connection by performing a test sequence using full-scale structural testing. A final tension or bending to failure test was also completed for each test connection to validate the physical failure mode, exceeding the latest API 17G requirements. For all connections tested, capacities calculated using the methodology were validated from the successful completion of the test sequences. The physical failure modes of the test connections also matched the predicted failure modes from the FEA, and the tensile or bending moment loading at physical collapse exceeded that predicted by the global collapse of the FEA model. Using the validated approach described in this paper significantly reduces the requirement of physical testing for connector families, establishing confidence in the structural limits that are critical for safe operations.

Abstract For subsea well drilling, the drilling rig is connected to the subsea well by a marine riser and subsea BOP equipped with a remotely controlled wellhead connector latched onto the subsea wellhead profile. The level of cyclic loading on subsea wellheads is steadily increasing due to use of increasingly larger drilling rigs with larger BOPs, the drilling of wells in harsher environments characterized by strong high waves. The remotely controlled wellhead connector forces a series of locking dogs into an externally machined profile on the wellhead. This external profile is generally referred to as a wellhead profile. The fatigue resistance of this safety-critical connection is typically estimated by FE analysis. Due to the large size of the equipment, and high cost of testing, very limited fatigue testing, if any, has been carried out. A test method has therefore been developed, where a special test fixture is used to apply realistic boundary conditions and variable tensile loads to a small sector or segment of a wellhead connector. A primary objective is to generate fatigue-critical stress fields in the segments under tensile test load that closely replicates the stress fields in a full-scale connector subject to bending loads. A secondary objective is to support the introduction of the practice of testing several segments cut from a single wellhead connector. The testing of narrow sector segments allows the use of readily available test apparatus. It is thereby envisaged that the total cost of testing (specimens and test laboratory costs) can be substantially reduced in comparison with full-scale connector fatigue testing. This paper describes the text fixture, the connector locking dog, and wellhead segments designed to replicate the stress fields in a full-scale wellhead connector. The test fixture and test specimens are designed to match conditions and fatigue stress of the full-scale connector. The test specimens are instrumented with strain gauges at fatigue hotspots. Digital image correlation (DIC) is used to measure the relative motion between the wellhead segment and the locking dog. The measured strains are compared with corresponding values from finite element analysis of the test. The DIC results are also used for estimating the coefficient of friction between wellhead profile and locking dog. Very good agreement is found between measured hotspot strains and strains from the FE analyses for consistent load conditions. The test fixture is therefore considered suitable for segment fatigue testing, where the test results can be used to estimate the bending fatigue capacity of a full-scale wellhead connector. Results from fatigue testing by this test method are presented in a separate OMAE2020 paper.

The contact gasket stress distributions of a non-circular flange connection with a compressed asbestos sheet gasket subjected to internal pressure were analyzed taking account a hysteresis of the gasket by using finite element method (FEM). Leakage tests were also conducted using an actual non-circular flange connection with a compressed asbestos sheet gasket under internal pressure. By using the contact gasket stress distributions and the results of the leakage tests, the new gasket constants were calculated. A difference in the new gasket constants between the values obtained from the present study and those by the PVRC procedure was substantial. In addition, a method to determine the initial clamping bolt force (bolt preload) for a given tightness parameter was demonstrated. abstract text here.

The article is an overview of the journalism – PR – advertising relationship at the terminological, empirical-analytical and practical levels. It traces the state of the discussion of these correlations in the post-soviet media such as Ukraine. The study describes that domesticating the importance of the appropriate partnership between the three communication technologies. The thesis is that journalism, advertising and PR create a mutual connection that takes place in an atmosphere of PR and advertising permissiveness and deepens with the development of digitalization, Social network development. The present research is based on a comprehensive approach. The inductive and deductive methods are adopted to discuss theoretical materials, and the interdisciplinary research method is used to detect PR-specific features as a philosophy of a new journalism project. The interpretive approach, usually employed to analyze media text as a complex synthetic structure, was also taken into consideration. The analytical method application identified the modern means of substantiating the ideological, esthetical and informative value of brand journalism and spin doctor. The innovative character of modern media as a behavioral strategy in the advertising and PR industry consists in the fact that it is a form of creative production and behavior rather than adapting a specific communication situation. The article examines the main directions of contemporary interactions between PR, advertising and journalism as a media content creation. In this context, it is asserted that advertising, journalism and PR activities can contribute to the creation of media content. At some point, good media content is achieved not only as a result of this competition but also from the correlation between PR, advertising and journalism.

The article clarifies of gender identity stereotypes in modern media. The main gender stereotypes covered in modern mass media are analyzed and refuted. The model of gender relations in the media is reflected mainly in the stereotypical images of men and woman. The features of the use of gender concepts in modern periodicals for women and men were determined. The most frequently used derivatives of these macroconcepts were identified and analyzed in detail. It has been found that publications for women and men are full of various gender concepts that are used in different contexts. Ingeneral, theanalysisofthe concept-maximums and concept-minimum gender and their characteristics is carried out in the context of gender stereotypes that have been forme dand function in the society, system atizing the a ctual presentations. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. Taking into account the special features of gender-labeled periodicals in general and the practical absence of comprehensive scientific studies of the gender concept in particular, there is a need to supplement Ukrainian science with this topic. Gender psychology, which is served by methods of various sciences, primarily sociological, pedagogical, linguistic, psychological, socio-psychological. Let us pay attention to linguistic and psycholinguistic methods in gender studies. Linguistic methods complement intelligence research tasks, associated with speech, word and text. Psycholinguistic methods used in gender psychology (semantic differential, semantic integral, semantic analysis of words and texts), aimed at studying speech messages, specific mechanisms of origin and perception, functions of speech activity in society, studying the relationship between speech messages and gender properties participants in the communication, to analyze the linguistic development in connection with the general development of the individual. Nowhere in gender practice there is the whole arsenal of psychological methods that allow you to explore psychological peculiarities of a person like observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, testing, modeling, etc. The methods of psychological self-diagnostics include: the gender aspect of the own socio-psychological portrait, a gender biography as a variant of the biographical method, aimed at the reconstruction of individual social experience. In the process of writing a gender autobiography, a person can understand the characteristics of his gender identity, as well as ways and means of their formation. Socio-psychological methods of studying gender include the study of socially constructed women’s and men’s roles, relationships and identities, sexual characteristics, psychological characteristics, etc. The use of gender indicators and gender approaches as a means of socio-psychological and sociological analysis broadens the subject boundaries of these disciplines and makes them the subject of study within these disciplines. And also, in the article a combination of concrete-historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is implemented. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. Also used is a method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-stamped journals. It was he who allowed quantitatively to identify and explore the features of the gender concept in the pages of periodicals for women and men. A combination of historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is also implemented in the article. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. A method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-labeled journals is also used. It allowed to identify and explore the features of the gender concept quantitatively in the periodicals for women and men. The conceptual perception and interpretation of the gender concept «woman», which is highlighted in the modern gender-labeled press in Ukraine, requires the elaboration of the polyfunctionality of gender interpretations, the comprehension of the metaphorical perception of this image and its role and purpose in society. A gendered approach to researching the gender content of contemporary periodicals for women and men. Conceptual analysis of contemporary gender-stamped publications within the gender conceptual sphere allows to identify and correlate the meta-gender and gender concepts that appear in society.
