This research aims to better understand how organizational communication texts contribute to the setting of a strategic discourse and a textual agency by focusing on the process of elaboration of an in-house journal. Our main topics of interest are the personal strategies of those who contribute to the preparation of the in-house journal, the reasons for their day-to-day involvement and the change it brings to the working practice. Our approach is structured around participant observation within the Communication department of Préventika. Based on the data collected for a period of two years, we conduct a mixed methods analysis (thematic and longitudinal) of eleven editions of the in-house journal since its creation. This research contributes to the textual agency approach developed by The Montréal School of Organizational Communication in which the in-house journal texts are seen as agents able to act on and to make act on the organization and its members

While there has been substantial body of work in the field of journal bearing research, much of it is today theoretical or simulated due to today’s computing power. Scania produces experimental data from motor testing, but these are expensive and time consuming. Furthermore there is a difficulty in keeping a sufficiently controlled environment, which at times makes it hard to draw conclusions from testing results. They therefore wish to develop a test-rig which can evaluate friction and wear in journal bearings. This thesis is a continuation of a project in the course Advanced Machine Design given at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. During this thesis the test-rig has been manufactured, built, and evaluated. Furthermore software for the test-rig was developed. Information on journal bearings, risk assessment and signal noise handling were sought. Mechanical development was done with Autodesk Inventor, while Matlab was used for software development. Factorial design was utilised when designing tests and compared to a simple theoretical model. Test results showed promising results for Stribeck curve-producing tests, with good resemblance to known frictional values and trends. Furthermore the test-rig showed good repeatability for replicated tests and produced wear on the bearing shells used. During a prolonged test, the shaft and support-bearings were damaged and requires servicing to be in an operational state. The test-rig requires to be further verified, but the tests that were carried out showed valuable and reliable information on wear and frictional values. Även om en betydande mängd forskning inom glidlager och fullfilmslager har genomförts så är med dagens datorkapacitet en stor del av resultaten numera teoretiska eller simulerade. Medan Scania producerar experimentella resultat, så är dessa dyra och tidskrävande. Vidare är det ibland svårt att hålla en tillräckligt kontrollerad miljö för att dra slutsatser från proverna. Med en dedikerad testrigg som kan tillförlitliga resultat tas fram billigare och snabbare. Detta examensarbete är en fortsättning av kursen Avancerad Maskinkonstruktion som ges vid Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan. Under detta examensarbete har testriggen tillverkats, byggts och utvärderats. Vidare har programvara för testriggen utvecklats. Informationssökning gjordes på glidlager, fullfilmslager, riskbedömning och signalbrushantering. Mekanisk utveckling har gjorts i Autodesk Inventor, medan Matlab användes för mjukvaruutveckling. Faktorial design har nyttjats vid utformningen av tester. Resultaten jämfördes med en enkel teoretisk modell. Testresultaten visade lovade resultat för Stribeck kurva-producerande tester, med god likhet till kända friktionsvärden och trender. Testriggen visade god reproducerbarhet vid replikerade tester. Testriggen producerar slitage på samtliga testade lagerytor. Under ett längre test så har axel och stödlager skadats, varför service behövs för att testriggen skall vara i brukbart skick. Testriggen kräver ytterligare verifiering, men resultaten från de prov som genomförts visar att test-riggen ger värdefull och tillförlitlig information om slitage och friktion kunna utrönas. Hydrodynamic journal bearings are applied in a wide range of both old and new, advanced rotating machinery designs. To maintain existing machinery, as well as to design new, state of the art machines, validated analytical models for these bearings are needed. This work documents the development and evaluation of an automated test rig for the evaluation of hydrodynamic journal bearings to provide some of the needed experimental data. This work describes the test rig in detail, including the results of experimental characterization of many of the test rig subsystems. Experimental data for a two axial groove bearing and a pressure dam bearing under steady load conditions are presented for a range of loads at two different shaft speeds. Experimental data and analytical results for dynamic loading are also discussed. The work concludes with a summary of the state of the test rig and recommendations for further work.

If we consider a discipline as a historical product of the dynamics that exist between institutions, scientific communities and their practices (Danziger, 1995), scientific production, as a product of these dynamics, can be considered crucial to outline its history. Studying the history of a discipline starting from its scientific production means understanding how it is built around a specific community, since it contains its theories, methods and fields of application (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015, 2018). The aim of the present dissertation is to offer a representation of the history of social psychology in two communities or centres (cf. Danziger, 1996), European and North American, which are historically linked and at the core of debated issues in the field. Thus, we started from the study of the temporal evolution of contents in two central journals in their respective contexts: European Journal of Social Psychology and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. In particular, we intend: 1) to offer a reflection on the contribution of the methods used to portray a history of a discipline, 2) to identify the direction of publications by highlighting hegemonic or marginal perspectives and methods and 3) to contribute to a reflection on the discipline itself. Since these journals convey the contents of the articles through keywords, all the titles and the abstracts of the two journals have been collected from their foundation (1971 and 1965 respectively) until the last issue of 2016. By means of a (lexical) correspondence analysis (SPAD software), the existence of a latent temporal pattern in keywords' occurrences has been explored. An overview of the words that characterised each year in each corpus is presented to observe and compare debated themes, processes, and methods covered by the two journals throughout the years. Furthermore, the main debated topics (that are clusters of words with a common meaning) by the journals and their temporal trajectories have been identified and compared by means of Reinert's method (1986) (IRaMuTeQ and R software) and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (Blei, Ng, & Jordan, 2003) (implemented in the R environment). The individual trajectories of the keywords were then tracked and grouped together based on their temporal pattern (Functional Data Analysis and Curve Clustering) in order to identify their "life cycle" (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015; 2018). Finally, some interviews with social psychologists were carried out to discuss some of the outcomes of the analyses, they were also invited to highlight methods and perspectives that might remain marginal to the field and to discuss on the overall history and development of the discipline. The results from all the moments of data collection and analysis were discussed a) by making a comparison between the journals and the literature, b) with respect to the methods used and c) reflecting on some questions posed in the beginning of this project - or that have emerged during the course of the work -considered relevant to fully explore the influence the history of the discipline to the field of Social Psychology.
Se si considera una disciplina come un prodotto storico delle dinamiche che intercorrono tra istituzioni, comunità  scientifiche e le loro pratiche (Danziger, 1995), la produzione scientifica, quale prodotto di queste dinamiche, può essere considerata cruciale per delinearne la storia. Studiare la storia di una disciplina a partire dalla sua produzione scientifica significa cogliere come questa viene costruita attorno a una determinata comunità , dal momento che ne contiene teorie, metodi e ambiti applicativi (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015; 2018). L'obiettivo della presente dissertazione è offrire una rappresentazione della storia della psicologia sociale in due comunità  o centri (cfr. Danziger, 1996), europeo e nord-americano, storicamente legati e fulcro di questioni dibattute. Per farlo si è partiti dallo studio dell'evoluzione temporale dei contenuti di due riviste centrali nei rispettivi contesti: European Journal of Social Psychology e Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. In particolare si intende: 1) offrire una riflessione sul contributo dei metodi usati nel tracciare la storia di una disciplina, 2) individuare la direzione delle pubblicazioni tra prospettive e metodi egemoni e marginali e 3) contribuire a una riflessione sulla disciplina stessa. Dal momento che veicolano attraverso parole chiave i contenuti degli articoli, sono stati raccolti tutti i titoli e gli abstract delle due riviste dalla loro fondazione (rispettivamente 1971 e 1965) fino all'ultimo numero del 2016. Per mezzo dell'analisi delle corrispondenze lessicali (software SPAD), è stata esplorata la presenza di un andamento temporale latente nelle occorrenze delle parole chiave. È stata così proposta una panoramica dei contenuti principali che hanno caratterizzato ogni anno in ciascun corpus al fine di osservare e confrontare temi, processi e metodi discussi e trattati dalle due riviste. Inoltre, sono stati individuati e confrontati i principali argomenti (intesi come gruppi di parole a cui sottostà  un significato comune) trattati dalle riviste e le loro traiettorie temporali per mezzo del metodo Reinert (1986) (software IRaMuTeQ e R) e Latent Dirichlet Allocation (Blei, Ng, & Jordan, 2003) (implementata in ambiente R). In seguito sono state tracciate le singole traiettorie delle parole chiave e sono state accomunate in cluster in base al loro andamento temporale (Functional Data Analysis e Curve Clustering) al fine di individuarne il "ciclo di vita" (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015; 2018). Infine sono state svolte alcune interviste a psicologi sociali per discutere con loro alcuni dei risultati delle analisi delle riviste e mettere in luce metodi e prospettive che potrebbero rimanere marginali nel campo e discutere sulla storia e lo sviluppo della disciplina. I risultati, nel complesso, sono stati discussi a) ponendo in essere un confronto tra le riviste e con la letteratura, b) riflettendo sui metodi utilizzati e c) a partire da alcuni questioni poste in principio - o emerse in corso d'opera - come salienti.

The master’s thesis deals with a design of a radial journal bearing simulator, which is ready to implement a transparent sapphire journal bearing to an optical observation of the oil film. The first part of this thesis contains a short review of a few currently used journal bearing test rigs. The next part of the work deals with a discussion of concept variants and a definition of important parameters. The last part contains a detailed description of the designed radial journal bearing simulator. Limitations of the designed simulator and recommendations for future improvements are also discussed. The result of the presented work is the designed journal bearing simulator which will allow observing of the oil film. The work also consists a complete design documentation.

On championing the villain, there is a naïve quality that must be maintained even though the actor has rehearsed his tragic ending several times. There is a subtle difference between to charm and to seduce. The need for fame, glory, power, money, or other objects of affection drives antagonists so blindly that they ve no hope of regaining a consciousness about their actions. If and when they do become aware, they infrequently feel remorse. I captured the essence of the villain by exposing these lightless characters to the sun. On Monday, April 9th and Tuesday, April 17th, 2007, on the Gillespie stage in Daytona Beach, Florida, I performed a thirty-minute, one-act cabaret entitled The Dark Side of the Tune. By selecting pieces from the musical theatre genre to define and demonstrate the qualities of the stock character, the villain, I created a one-man show; a musical play, including an inciting incident, rising conflict, climax, and dénouement, with only a few moments of my own dialogue to help handle the unique transitions for my own particular story. By analyzing the arc of major historical villains and comparing them to some of the current dark characters, I will discuss the progression of the villain s role within a production and the change from the clearly defined villain to modern misfits who are frequently far less scheming or obvious. My research includes analysis of the dark references within each piece s originating production, and how it has been integrated into the script for The Dark Side of the Tune and a breakdown of my cabaret s script (Appendix A). I explore actors tools, specifically voice, movement, and characterization, and their use in creating villainous characters. I also discuss similarities in story progression for the deviant s beginning, middle, and final positions within the plot structure of a production.

Most tilting pad journal bearing dynamic characteristics estimation methodologies assume perfect shaft tracking by the pads. In other words, they neglect pivot friction. In case of pads having point or line contact that operate under most normal load conditions, the pad tilting is due to a rocking motion which is not greatly influenced by friction. Hence this simplifying assumption might be acceptable. Heavier loading conditions, such as those typically encountered in gearboxes, demand the use of spherical pivots to avoid pivot failure. The spherical pivot is very attractive for this reason, but the tilting motion is rather a sliding action that must occur in the precision ball socket. A valid concern exists for verifying the soundness of assumed shaft tracking by the pads of such bearings. A â fixed test bearing, floating shaftâ type of test rig previously built for determining the dynamic characteristics of bearings was accordingly modified to facilitate the testing of shaft tracking for a spherical pivot bearing. This thesis describes the modifications carried out on the rig. The special instrumentation and data acquisition systems implemented to observe the minute pad motion are also discussed. Some preliminary results of the tests are presented for various loading conditions. They show excellent shaft tracking by the pads. More detailed testing and analysis of data is required to fully understand the pad motion and tracking ability of the spherical pivot design.

This work addresses the need for an alternative to keyword-based search for sifting through large PDF medical journal article document collections for literature review purposes. Despite users' best efforts to form precise and accurate queries, it is often difficult to guess the right keywords to find all the related articles while finding a minimum number of unrelated ones. Failure during literature review to find relevant, related research results in wasted research time and effort in addition to missing significant work in the related area which could affect the quality of the research work being conducted. The purpose of this work is to explore the benefits of a retrieval system for professional journal articles in PDF format that supports hybrid queries composed of both text and images. PDF medical journal articles contain formatting and layout information that imply the structure and organization of the document. They also contain figures and tables rich with content and meaning. Stripping a PDF into “full-text” for indexing purposes disregards these important features. Specifically, this work investigated the following: (1) what effect the incorporation of a document's embedded figures into the query (in addition to its text) has on retrieval performance (precision) compared to plain keyword-based search; (2) how current text-based document-query similarity methods can be enhanced by using formatting and font-size information as a structure and organization model for a PDF document; (3) whether to use the standard Euclidean distance function or the matrix distance function for content-based image retrieval; (4) how to convert a PDF into a structured, formatted, reflowable XML representation given a pure-layout PDF document; (5) what document views (such as a term frequency cloud, a document outline, or a document's figures) would help users wade through search results to quickly select those that are worth a closer look. While the results of the experiments were unexpectedly worse than their baselines of comparison (see the conclusion for a summary), the experimental methods are very valuable in showing others what directions have already been pursued and why they did not work and what remaining problems need to be solved in order to achieve the goal of improving literature review through use of a hybrid text and image retrieval system.

In an attempt to identify motivating factors involved in decisions to publish in Open Access (OA) journals, individual interviews with biomedical faculty members at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a major research university, were conducted. The interviews focused on faculty identified as early adopters of OA/free full-text publishing. Searches conducted in PubMed and PubMed Central identified faculty from UNC-Chapel Hill who have published works in OA/free full-text journals. The searches targeted authors with multiple OA citations during a specified 18 month period. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the most prolific OA authors. Individual interviews attempted to determine whether the authors were aware they published in OA journals, why they chose to publish in OA journals, what factors influenced their publishing decisions, and their general attitude towards OA publishing models. Interview questions were based on a review of the literature and consultation with a scholarly communication working group. The interview results were analyzed to see whether these faculty members made conscious efforts to publish in OA/free full-text journals, and if so why.

This thesis studies the effectiveness of existing translation models in the context of everyday translation and proposes a new translation model. The thesis reviews a number of approaches to the process of translation from the Roman times to the present before focusing on contemporary translation theory and the representation of the translation process by means o f translation models. The thesis introduces - and comments on - a number of existing translation models and then proceeds to develop a new model of the process, which aims to present a more holistic view of the process than the models discussed. The second part of the thesis concentrates on the testing of the model. Two very practical tests are applied to the model in order to assess the accuracy of the representation and the usability of the model in the context o f everyday translation. The first test applied to the model has, however, another function. It aims to provide a contemporary readership with a readable English translation of a Renaissance Latin text, the first book of the Instructiones historico-theologicae de doctrina Christiana et vario rerum statua temporibus Apostolici, ad tempora usque seculi decimi septime prior a (1645) by John Forbes o f Corse. This enables a wide audience with very little or no knowledge o f Latin to gain access to the complex theological argument contained in the specimen text. The commentary on the English translation, and on extracts of the German and French translations of this work serves to test the applicability of the model in the context of translation into more than one language. The second test concentrates on the translation from English into German and German into English. For this test, two groups of students from the Universities of Trier and Rostock in Germany were asked to carry out the same translation exercise. The study o f the work received from these students allows me to assess the usability o f the model as a guideline for translators. The thesis concludes by saying that the model has proved successful on both occasions, and by offering suggestions for further study.

In the theoretical analysis of high speed rotor bearing systems, it is common to use four displacement and four velocity based coefficients, which characterise the behaviour of the lubricating fluid film. Although a great deal of work has been published establishing theoretical models of all types of hydrodynamic journal bearings, the large amount of experimental work has centred on relatively low speed conditions. This work presents a contribution to the experimental study of the static and dynamic characteristics of oil films in journal bearings used in high-speed rotating machinery. The main objectives of the work are: • To devise new experimental techniques for the measurement of dynamic coefficients suitable for use at high rotational speeds • To design, manufacture, assemble and commission a test facility to measure the static and dynamic characteristics of journal bearings at speeds up to 30000 rpm • To determine the static and dynamic characteristics of a 5 Pad Tilting Pad Journal Bearing Unit of 80 mm diameter at speeds up to 25 000 rpm using the said test facility. New techniques are particularly necessary for the measurement of velocity coefficients because these invoke the necessity of imposing a velocity on to the bearing housing and previous techniques have utilised synchronous motion of the bearing. Consequently a new experimental procedure for measuring the four velocity or damping coefficients of an oil film journal bearing from imposed dynamic "orbits" has been devised called the "double pulse" technique. All four velocity coefficients are derived from one imposed journal centre dynamic orbit and, therefore may be regarded as being obtained at the same time. The method requires the production of a "cross- over" point similar to that of a "figure of eight" shaped orbit and utilises the "cross-over" point therein. Coefficients are initially evaluated in a co-ordinate system, which is chosen to align with the designated parts of the measured orbit. Each coefficient is then evaluated from single values of instantaneous imposed force and resulting journal centre velocity. Coefficients are them converted into any other desired axes system. The result is a simpler experimental procedure, with reduced uncertainty compared to hitherto existing methods. The use of non-sinusoidal excitation of the oil film was explored, in the form of applying a step-pulse train load pattern to produce a cross-over pattern in the journal displacement ·orbit'. Experimental tests were completed on a tilting pad bearing at speeds up to 15 000 rpm inclusive. At speeds above this, the bearing exhibited a vibrational response, which precluded the accurate measurement of journal centre displacement.

Poor informational reading and writing skills in early grades and the need to provide students more experience with informational text have been identified by research as areas of concern. Wilkinson and Son (2011) support future research in dialogic approaches to investigate the impact dialogic teaching has on comprehension. This study (N = 39) examined the gains in reading comprehension, science achievement, and metacognitive functioning of individual second grade students interacting with instructors using dialogue journals alongside their textbook. The 38 week study consisted of two instructional phases, and three assessment points. After a period of oral metacognitive strategies, one class formed the treatment group (n=17), consisting of two teachers following the co-teaching method, and two classes formed the comparison group (n=22). The dialogue journal intervention for the treatment group embraced the transactional theory of instruction through the use of dialogic interaction between teachers and students. Students took notes on the assigned lesson after an oral discussion. Teachers responded to students’ entries with scaffolding using reading strategies (prior knowledge, skim, slow down, mental integration, and diagrams) modeled after Schraw’s (1998) strategy evaluation matrix, to enhance students’ comprehension. The comparison group utilized text-based, teacher-led whole group discussion. Data were collected using different measures: (a) Florida Assessments for Instruction in Reading (FAIR) Broad Diagnostic Inventory; (b) Scott Foresman end of chapter tests; (c) Metacomprehension Strategy Index (Schmitt, 1990); and (d) researcher-made metacognitive scaffolding rubric. Statistical analyses were performed using paired sample t-tests, regression analysis of covariance, and two way analysis of covariance. Findings from the study revealed that experimental participants performed significantly better on the linear combination of reading comprehension, science achievement, and metacognitive function, than their comparison group counterparts while controlling for pretest scores. Overall, results from the study established that teacher scaffolding using metacognitive strategies can potentially develop students’ reading comprehension, science achievement, and metacognitive awareness. This suggests that early childhood students gain from the integration of reading and writing when using authentic materials (science textbooks) in science classrooms. A replication of this study with more students across more schools, and different grade levels would improve the generalizability of these results.

Natural language, spoken and written, is the most important way for humans to communicate information to each other. In the last decades \emph{natural language processing} (NLP) researchers have studied methods aimed at making computers ``understand'' the information enclosed in human language. \emph{Information Extraction} (IE) is a field of NLP that studies methods aimed at extracting information from text so that it can be used to populate a structured information repository, such as a relational database. The main approaches by means of which the task of IE has been tackled rely on supervised machine learning, which needs human-labeled data examples in order to train the systems that extract information from yet unseen data. The best-performing supervised machine learning methods for IE are certainly probabilistic graphical models, and, specifically, Conditional Random Fields (CRFs). In this thesis we investigate two major aspects related to IE from text via CRFs: the creation of CRFs models that outperform the commonly adopted, state-of-the-art, linear-chain CRFs, and the impact of the quality of training data on the accuracy of CRFs system for IE. In the first part of the thesis we use the capabilities of the CRFs framework to create new kinds of CRFs, that unlike the commonly adopted linear-chain CRFs are customized to the structure of the task taken into consideration. We exemplify this approach on two different tasks, i.e., IE from medical documents and \emph{opinion mining} from product reviews. CRFs, like any machine learning-based approach, may suffer if the quality of training data is low. Therefore, the second part of the thesis is devoted to (1) the study of how the quality of training data affects the accuracy of a CRFs system for IE; and (2) the production of human-annotated training data via semi-supervised \emph{active learning} (AL). We start by facing the task of IE from medical documents written in the Italian language; this consists in extracting chunks of text that instantiate concepts of interest for medical practitioners, such as, drug dosages, pathologies, treatments, etc.. We propose two novel approaches: a cascaded, two-stage method composed by two layers of CRFs, and a confidence-weighted ensemble method that combines standard linear-chain CRFs and the proposed two-stage method. Both the proposed models are shown to outperform a standard linear-chain CRFs IE system. We then investigate the problem of aspect-oriented sentence-level opinion mining from product reviews, that consists in predicting, for all sentences in the review, whether the sentence expresses a positive, neutral, or negative opinion (or no opinion at all) about a specific aspect of the product. We propose a set of increasingly powerful models based on CRFs, including a hierarchical multi-label CRFs scheme that jointly models the overall opinion expressed in a product review and the set of aspect-specific opinions expressed in each of its sentences. Also in this task the proposed CRF models obtain better results than linear-chain CRFs. We then study the impact that the quality of training data has on the learning process and thus on the accuracy of a classifier. Low quality in training data sometimes derives from the fact that the person who has annotated the data is not an expert of the data domain. We test the impact of training data quality on the accuracy of IE systems oriented to the clinical domain. We finally investigate the process of AL in order to obtain good-quality training data with minimum human annotation effort. We propose several AL strategies for a type of semi-supervised CRFs specifically devised for partially labeled sequences. We show that, with respect to the proposed strategies, margin-based strategies always obtain the best results on the four tasks we have tested them on.

The aim of the thesis is to investigate the feasibility of using text mining methods to reconstruct patient journeys from unstructured clinical narratives. A novel method to extract and represent patient journeys is proposed and evaluated in this thesis. A composition of methods were designed, developed and evaluated to this end; which included health-related concept extraction, temporal information extraction, and concept clustering and automated work-flow generation. A suite of methods to extract clinical information from healthcare narratives were proposed and evaluated in order to enable chronological ordering of clinical concepts. Specifically, we proposed and evaluated a data-driven method to identify key clinical events (i.e., medical problems, treatments, and tests) using a sequence labelling algorithm, CRF, with a combination of lexical and syntactic features, and a rule-based post-processing method including label correction, boundary adjustment and false positive filter. The method was evaluated as part of the 2012 i2b2 challengeand achieved a state-of-the-art performance with a strict and lenient micro F1-measure of 83.45% and 91.13% respectively. A method to extract temporal expressions using a hybrid knowledge- (dictionary and rules) and data-driven (CRF) has been proposed and evaluated. The method demonstrated the state-of-the-art performance at the 2012 i2b2 challenge: F1-measure of 90.48% and accuracy of 70.44% for identification and normalisation respectively. For temporal ordering of events we proposed and evaluated a knowledge-driven method, with a F1-measure of 62.96% (considering the reduced temporal graph) or 70.22% for extraction of temporal links. The method developed consisted of initial rule-based identification and classification components which utilised contextual lexico-syntactic cues for inter-sentence links, string similarity for co-reference links, and subsequently a temporal closure component to calculate transitive relations of the extracted links. In a case study of survivors of childhood central nervous system tumours (medulloblastoma), qualitative evaluation showed that we were able to capture specific trends part of patient journeys. An overall quantitative evaluation score (average precision and recall) of 94-100% for individual and 97% for aggregated patient journeys were also achieved. Hence, indicating that text mining methods can be used to identify, extract and temporally organise key clinical concepts that make up a patient’s journey. We also presented an analyses of healthcare narratives, specifically exploring the content of clinical and patient narratives by using methods developed to extract patient journeys. We found that health-related quality of life concepts are more common in patient narrative, while clinical concepts (e.g., medical problems, treatments, tests) are more prevalent in clinical narratives. In addition, while both aggregated sets of narratives contain all investigated concepts; clinical narratives contain, proportionally, more health-related quality of life concepts than clinical concepts found in patient narratives. These results demonstrate that automated concept extraction, in particular health-related quality of life, as part of standard clinical practice is feasible. The proposed method presented herein demonstrated that text mining methods can be efficiently used to identify, extract and temporally organise key clinical concepts that make up a patient’s journey in a healthcare system. Automated reconstruction of patient journeys can potentially be of value for clinical practitioners and researchers, to aid large scale analyses of implemented care pathways, and subsequently help monitor, compare, develop and adjust clinical guidelines both in the areas of chronic diseases where there is plenty of data and rare conditions where potentially there are no established guidelines.

The purpose of this degree project has been to examine the implications of the provision of certain methodological support mechanisms, what has often been referred to as "instructional scaffolding" in literary didactics, to assist students in the ESL/EFL classroom in their interaction with the various literary texts into which they come into contact during their English language education at the upper secondary level in Sweden. My primary interest has been to gauge the response of the students involved in this study to the particular types of literary didactic methods utilized, for example, regarding their effectiveness in aiding the learning process as well as their impact on the literary, or aesthetic, experience itself. An analysis of student responses to a literature instruction module based on a reading of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness will demonstrate that certain forms of literary didactic methods in general, and significantly, particular forms of what can be conceptualized as instructional scaffolding, play a crucial role for both the learning process and the student's aesthetic experience of literature.

Cette thèse propose un modèle intégrateur de relation à la Marque de Presse (MP), avec la personnalité de la marque et les émotions ressenties, comme antécédents de trois variables relationnelles à la marque, la confiance, l'attachement et l'engagement. Quatre apports principaux découlent de ce modèle intégrateur de la MP: Une route évaluative, trouvant sa source dans la personnalité de la marque, cette dernière influençant respectivement la confiance et l'engagement cognitif; Les émotions comme ancrage d'une route affective et leur incidence sur l'attachement et l'engagement affectif; Trois échelles de mesure ont été construites. La première est spécifique à la personnalité des MP. La seconde est propre à la mesure de la personnalité des MP et des autres marques qui pourraient s'associer à la MP. Enfin, la troisième concerne les émotions ressenties lors de la lecture d'une MP ou de la consommation d'une autre marque; Trois construits formatifs relationnels découlent de ce modèle intégrateur, la réponse affective, la réponse évaluative et le capital relationnel à la marque (CRMa). Le premier indice est construit avec l'attachement et l'engagement affectif, tandis que le deuxième émane de la confiance et de l'engagement cognitif. Tous deux donnent naissance à un indice de la relation à la marque, le CRMa. Les résultats soulignent que, sur l'ensemble des test, la part du cognitif est toujours plus forte que la part de l'affectif. Par ailleurs, ils valident l'existence d'un CRMa permettant de mesure, dans l'esprit du consommateur, l'association de deux marques conduisant à l'obtention d'une matrice d'intensité relationnelle (MIR)/
This doctoral dissertation proposes an integrative model of the relationship to press title brands with brand personality and felt emotions as antecedents of three relational variables, trust, attachment and commitment. Four contributions arise from this integrative model: An evaluation route, stemming from brand personality, witch in turn, respectively influences trust and cognitive commitment; Felt emotions as anchors of an affective route and their incidence on attachment and affective commitment; Three measurement scales have been proposed. The firs one is specific to the personality of press title brands. The second one is related to the personality of press title brands and others brands. Finally, the third scale concerns felt emotions while reading a press title or consuming an other brand; Three relational formative constructs come out from this integrative model, namely an affective response, an evaluative one and a brand relationship equity index (BRE). The first construct stems from attachment and affective commitment whereas the second one comes out from trust and cognitive commitment. Both give rise to an overall index of brand relationship, namely the BRE. All in all, results show that the cognitive part is always stronger than the affective one. In addition, they validate the existence of a BRE index allowing to measure, in the consumer's spirit, the fit between two brands that leads to the building up of a relational intensity matrix (RIM)

Australia is home to one of the oldest continuous living cultures in the world. Now, more so than ever before, government and educational bodies are recognising the importance of integrating Indigenous cultures in education as a means of promoting intercultural understanding and improving educational outcomes for Indigenous students. The Australian Curriculum has advocated that Indigenous histories and cultures be embedded into every subject rather than taught separately. Drama is a curriculum area that provides many opportunities to integrate learning about Indigenous perspectives by exploring historically and culturally rich Indigenous theatre texts. Research is showing that non-Indigenous teachers are avoiding this content due to questions surrounding permission and a fear of cultural misappropriation. Further, a pilot study indicated that pre-service drama teachers are entering their profession feeling ill equipped to achieve this curriculum directive due to a lack of specific training in this area. Therefore, this a/r/tographical research involved a creative project that included mounting an ensemble performance of Aliwa! by Dallas Winmar—a Nyoongar play—by pre-service drama teacher participants. The project was guided by findings from interviews with leading Indigenous theatre makers and collaboration with a Nyoongar artist. A culturally responsive and respectful framework for exploring Indigenous theatre in drama was established. The findings from this study attest to the important need for pre-service teachers to undergo transformational and experiential learning about Indigenous ways of knowing; learning that helps them teach at the cultural interface and provides the critical skills necessary to respectfully navigate contested knowledge spaces. This work makes a compelling case for initial teacher education to yield culturally connected teachers with the expertise to develop curricula that prioritise Indigenous perspectives and knowledge as a vital step towards decolonising education.

Face the deficit manifestations in literary reading associated with the narrowing and "erase" the place of the literary text in elementary school. Developed an action research through didactic sequence, favoring the use of daily reading as a tool with potential for intervention and data collection. The pilot application was with 9th grade students in a school of public municipal system (Banzaê-BA). Therefore, objective with this report to present and analyze the read daily paper in the literary text apprehension process (recording and sharing). It emphasizes that the practice diarist, adopted here, only materializes fully in their socialization, whose reading circle is an effective community of readers (the class). For the purpose of teaching literature, must not be confused with the daily reading the diary - Private genre in which the holder, individual space, records intimate revelations and personal feelings. Daily reading is part of the educational sphere. It is a public genre with diary elements. We can define it then as a text written in the first person singular, from pre-established by the teacher instructions. In it, the reader, as we read, reflectively dialogues with the text read, can evoke his repertoire readings and experiences. Primarily, the survey drew on theoretical assumptions Machado (1998), Buzzo (2010), Lejeune (2008) Cosson (2014b), Fish (1992), Compagnon (1999) Rouxel (2013) and Langlade (2013) . We analyzed four inputs of the students, after reading two short stories "The Head", Luiz Vilela (2006) and "To win the game," Rubem Fonseca (2002). These, according reread instrumentation for reinterpretation via crossing with other languages (music and film), presentation of data / images of the authors and contact with literary criticism. The productions of the students had as an analytical criterion the four items of pre-established teaching guidance for the preparation of records (first and third records), as well as criteria related to reinterpretation (second and fourth records). The results showed a more protagonist student-reader who is responsible for the construction of meanings of the texts read. They pointed out, along with the formal data and literary text content, the subjective intervention of readers linked to construction and / or identity-building (s). The students records also showed gaps, problems whose teaching intervention is imperative by proposing solutions and / or reflections on the understanding of the listed phenomena. Finally, we inferred that there was in the process of reading the students a combination of personal and social levels.
Face a manifestações deficitárias em leitura literária associadas ao estreitamento e apagamento do lugar do texto literário no ensino fundamental. Desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa-ação por meio de sequência didática, privilegiando-se a utilização do diário de leitura enquanto instrumento com potencialidades para intervenção e coleta de dados. A aplicação piloto ocorreu com alunos do 9ºano em uma escola da rede pública municipal (Banzaê-BA). Diante disso, objetiva-se com este relatório apresentar e analisar o papel do diário de leitura no processo de apreensão do texto literário (registro e compartilhamento). Enfatiza-se que a prática diarista, aqui adotada, só se concretiza plenamente na sua socialização, cujo círculo de leitura constitui uma efetiva comunidade de leitores (a classe). Para o propósito do ensino da literatura, não se pode confundir o diário de leitura com o diário íntimo - gênero privado em que o produtor, no espaço individual, registra revelações íntimas e sentimentos pessoais. O diário de leitura faz parte da esfera educacional. É um gênero público com elementos do diário íntimo. Podemos defini-lo, então, como um texto escrito em primeira pessoa do singular, a partir de instruções pré-estabelecidas pelo docente. Nele, o leitor, à medida em que lê, dialoga de forma reflexiva com o texto lido, podendo evocar seu repertório de leituras e vivências. Precipuamente, a pesquisa valeu-se de pressupostos teóricos de Machado (1998), Buzzo (2010), Lejeune (2008), Cosson (2014b), Fish (1992), Compagnon (1999), Rouxel (2013) e Langlade (2013). Analisou-se quatro entradas dos alunos, após leitura de dois contos A cabeça , de Luiz Vilela (2006) e Ganhar o jogo , de Rubem Fonseca (2002). Estes, relidos consoante instrumentalização para reinterpretação via cruzamento com outras linguagens (música e cinema), apresentação de dados/imagens dos autores e contato com textos de crítica literária. As produções dos alunos tiveram como critério analítico os quatro itens de orientação docente pré-estabelecidos para a elaboração dos registros (primeira e terceira entrada), assim como critérios vinculados à reinterpretação (segunda e quarta entradas). Os resultados evidenciaram um aluno-leitor mais protagonista que se responsabiliza pela construção dos sentidos dos textos lidos. Apontaram, junto aos dados formais e de conteúdo do texto literário, a intervenção subjetiva dos leitores vinculada à construção e/ou reforço de identidade (s). Os registros discentes, também, apresentaram lacunas, problemas, cuja intervenção docente se faz imperativo por meio da proposição de soluções e/ou reflexões na compreensão dos fenômenos arrolados. Por fim, depreendemos que houve no processo de leitura dos alunos a conjugação das instâncias pessoal e social.

Carnet de voyage, carnet de parcours, carnet de vie, carnet d’expériences où se mêlent et s'entremêlent des langages de différentes natures : écrit, graphique, collagiste, photographique… Je souhaite donner à cette production une dimension réflexive et spéculative qui permette de mieux en saisir les modalités plastiques et iconiques et d'en comprendre les enjeux. Pour ce, j’examinerai les travaux réalisés à la lumière des sciences humaines (sociologie, anthropologie, géographie, etc.) et des sciences de l’art (histoire de l’art, esthétique, poïétique ). De même je les confronterai à un corpus d’œuvres-références historiques, contemporaines et actuelles afin d’en dégager les affinités et spécificités. Qu'est ce que le carnet engage ? La perception du moment, la volonté de comprendre, les liens avec le patrimoine artistique et culturel, le rapport au monde contemporain jusque dans ses éléments les plus ténus ? D'autres choses plus complexes telles la construction de soi, le développement d'une identité graphique ou plastique ? Les tentatives de réponses à ces questions permettront d’envisager une ouverture de cette pratique de carnettiste vers l’univers scolaire. En tant qu'inspecteur pédagogique régional d'arts plastiques (antérieurement j’étais enseignante de collèges et lycées dans cette discipline), je m'interroge sur les modalités pédagogiques de mise en place d'un parcours artistique et culturel de l'élève par le biais du carnet ou du cahier devenu carnet. Ce dernier, dans les mains d'un public jeune, ne serait-il pas un moyen de s'approprier de manière constructive, ludique et imagée l'univers artistique à travers le prisme scolaire ? Au-delà de l'investissement artistique et théorique personnel, cette thèse pourrait avoir une portée pragmatique et connaître des applications expérimentales en milieu scolaire au sens large, c'est-à-dire de l'école à l'université
My subject of thesis in visual arts is based on a personal practice of the notebook that I have been carrying on since the end of my studies at the university of Rennes 2. These sketchbooks trace travel, career and life experiments by mixing and intermingling different languages: writing, graphics, collages and photography. I wish to infuse a reflexive and speculative dimension to this production in order to catch its plastic and iconic methods and to understand its challenges. To achieve this, I will study works in the light of social sciences (sociology, anthropology, geography, etc) and sciences of Arts (art history, aesthetics, poetics). In the same way I will confront them with a corpus of historical, contemporary and current work-references in order to reveal their affinities and specificities. What does the notebook imply? The perception of the present moment, the will to understand, the links with the artistic and cultural heritage, the relationship to the contemporary world down to its thinnest elements? Other more complex things such as self-construction, development of a graphic or plastic identity? The attempt to answer these questions enables a possible opening of this practice of carnettist towards the world of school. As a regional school Inspector for Visual Arts and a former teacher in lower and upper secondary school for that discipline, I wonder about teaching methods to provide pupils with a cultural and artistic background by using notebooks or workbook that became notebooks. Could it be the tool for young people to acquire in a constructive, playful and colourful way to enhance their approach to the artistic universe through the scholar prism? Beyond the artistic and theoretical personal involvement, this thesis could find a pragmatic application and an experimental implementation at school in a broad sense, i.e. from school to university

Empathy and cultural understanding of groups that are marginalized due to religious, ethnic or sexual background is essential for peace in schools, neighborhoods, and society at large. Literacy classrooms can be a safe environment in which students can develop their own understandings and empathies. Although worthwhile, much of the research lacks details of student reactions to the people and cultures read about in historical narratives, as well as a focus on pedagogical practices that could give students a deep understanding of the culture. This study analyzed the empathetic responses of 13 sixth grade students to themes presented in a Mexican American narrative text, The Circuit. The purpose of this study was to understand the nature of student empathy and how empathetic responses reflect a rich historical and visual context. Key data sources of this interpretive study included large group discussions, small group discussions, written journal responses, and interviews. The results of this study indicated that students' empathetic responses are varied and complex and seem to reflect familiarity with topics in the text and personal background. Minimizing the cognitive demand of cultural content seemed to be a key pedagogical factor in helping students reach deeper levels of empathy. Suggestions are given for educators looking to teach empathy through cultural texts. Possible areas of research are recommended.

La fouille de processus vise à analyser les traces d'exécution des systèmes d'information (SI), utilisés dans le cadre des activités métiers, pour découvrir des connaissances sur les processus métiers (PM). D'importants travaux de recherche ont été menés dans ce domaine. Cependant, ils supposent généralement que ces traces d'exécution ont un niveau de structuration élevé. Cela signifie que: (i) ils sont composés d'enregistrements structurés, chacun capturant l'exécution d'une activité, et (ii) une partie des attributs des événements d'exécution (comme le nom de l'activité, l'horodatage) sont explicitement inclus dans ces enregistrements, ce qui facilite leur inférence. Néanmoins, les PM peuvent être entièrement ou partiellement réalisés dans des SI moins structurés générant des traces d’exécution de faible niveau de structuration. Les systèmes de courriels sont largement utilisés pour réaliser de manière collaborative des activités de PM. Cependant, leurs traces d’exécution sont de nature non-structurée de point de vue découverte des PM, ce qui empêche l’application directe des techniques existantes. Pour celles qui découvrent les PM à partir des courriels, elles: (i) nécessitent généralement une intervention humaine, et (ii) se sont limitées à la découverte des PM selon la perspective comportementale. Dans cette thèse, nous proposons de découvrir des fragments de PM à partir des courriels selon leurs perspectives fonctionnelles, données, organisationnelles et comportementales. Nous formalisons d'abord ces perspectives en considérant les spécificités des systèmes de courriels. Nous introduisons la notion de contribution des acteurs à la réalisation des activités pour enrichir les perspectives organisationnelles et comportementales. Nous considérons en outre les entités informationnelles manipulées par les activités de PM pour décrire la perspective des données. Pour automatiser la découverte de l’ensemble des perspectives, nous introduisons une approche complètement non-supervisée. Cette approche transforme principalement les traces non structurées des courriels en un journal d'événements structuré avant de l'analyser pour découvrir les PM selon différentes perspectives. Nous introduisons dans ce contexte un ensemble de solutions algorithmiques pour: (i) l'apprentissage non supervisé des activités basé sur la découverte de motifs fréquents de mots dans les courriels, (ii) la découverte des occurrences des activités dans les emails pour capturer les attributs des événements, (iii) la découverte des actes de parole des expéditeurs pour reconnaître leurs intentions de mentionner les activités dans les emails afin de déduire leurs contributions dans leur réalisation, (iv) le regroupement par chevauchement des activités pour découvrir leurs artefacts manipulés (c.-à-d. les entités informationnelles), et (v) la découverte des contraintes séquentielles entre les types d'événements pour découvrir la perspective comportementale des PM. Notre approche est validée en utilisant des courriels publics d’Enron. Nos résultats sont en outre rendus publics pour assurer la reproductibilité dans le domaine étudié. Nous montrons enfin l'utilité de nos résultats pour améliorer la gestion des PM à travers deux applications: (i) un outil de découverte et de recommandation des connaissances de PM à intégrer dans un système de gestion de courriels, et (ii) l'analyse de données CRM pour l'exploration des raisons de la satisfaction/non-satisfaction des utilisateurs
Process discovery aims at analysing the execution logs of information systems (IS), used when performing business activities, for discovering business process (BP) knowledge. Significant research works has been conducted in such area. However, they generally assume that these execution logs are of high or of middle level of maturity w.r.t BP discovery. This means that (i) they are composed of structured records while each one captures evidence of one activity execution, and (ii) a part of events’ attributes (e.g. activity name, timestamp) are explicitly included in these records which facilitates their inference. Nevertheless, BP can be entirely or partially performed through less structured IS generating execution logs of low level of maturity. More precisely, emailing systems are widely used as an alternative tool to collaboratively perform BP tasks. Traditional BP discovery techniques could not be applied or at least not directly applied due to the unstructured nature of email logs data. Recently, there have been several initiatives to extend the scope of BP discovery to consider email logs. However, most of them: (i) mostly require human intervention, and (ii) were limited to BP discovery according to its behavioral perspective. In this thesis, we propose to discover BP fragments from email logs w.r.t their functional, data, organizational and behavioral perspectives. We first formalize these perspectives considering emailing systems specifities. We introduce the notion of actors’ contributions towards performing activities to enrich the organizational and the behavioral perspectives. We additionally consider the informational entities manipulated by BP activities to describe the data perspective. To automate their discovery, we introduce a completely unsupervised approach. This approach mainly transforms the unstructured email log into a structured event log before mining it for discovering BP w.r.t multiple perspectives. We introduce in this context several algorithmic solutions for: (i) unsupervised learning activities based on discovering frequent patterns of words from emails, (ii) discovering activity occurrences in emails for capturing event attributes, (iii) discovering speech acts of activity occurrences for recognizing the sender purposes of including activities in emails, (iv) overlapping clustering of activities to discover their manipulated artifacts (i.e. informational entities), and (v) mining sequencing constraints between event types to discover BP behavioral perspective. We validated our approach using emails from the public dataset Enron to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. We publically provide these results to ensure reproducibility in the studied area. We finally show the usefulness of our results for improving BPM through two potential applications: (i) a BP discovery & recommendation tool to be integrated in emailing systems, and (ii) CRM data analysis for mining reasons of users’ satisfaction/non-satisfaction

Fondée sur un corpus de 436 textes de recensions germanophones publiées dans cinq supports de presse généraliste lors du premier semestre 2012, cette étude porte sur le discours de la critique littéraire germanophone. Pour tenter d’identifier des traits constitutifs de la recension, trois axes de recherche sont envisagés : les perspectives textuelle, discursive et métatextuelle. Traditionnellement conçue à partir de la fonction, la notion de texte est considérée ici sous l’angle de la forme. En recourant aux notions de séquences et de périodes, élaborées dans le cadre de la linguistique textuelle, cette étude identifie un réservoir de formes à l’origine de la composition et de la configuration des recensions. Par ailleurs, la perspective discursive permet d’appréhender le sujet énonciateur des recensions comme un lieu de transition de la parole et du savoir. Le critique littéraire s’octroie, en effet, une position institutionnelle qui marque son rapport au savoir afin d’exercer une influence optimale sur le lecteur. L’enjeu est de repérer les marqueurs discursifs qui fondent cette visée argumentative. Enfin, la perspective métatextuelle oblige à concevoir la recension dans son rapport au texte source. Véritable dialogue avec l’œuvre critiquée, la critique exploite explicitement des stratégies empruntées aux discours littéraire et journalistique. Des procédés de reprise textuelle tels que la reformulation, la citation, l’allusion ou la contamination menacent de saper le métatexte pour en faire un hypertexte. Ces trois axes permettent d’aborder la recension en tant que genre, à l’interface entre texte et discours. Les résultats confirment l’idée que le genre doit être abordé non pas dans une perspective statique, comme une liste d’invariants, mais dans une perspective dynamique, comme le résultat de l’interférence de plusieurs genres discursifs. Based on a corpus of 436 texts of German book reviews published in five newspapers of non-specialized press during the first half of the year 2012, this study investigates the discourse of German literary criticism. To try and identify constituent characteristics of the review, three areas of research are envisaged: the textual, discursive and metatexual perspectives. Traditionally conceived with regards to function, the notion of text is considered here in terms of shape. By considering the notions of sequences and periods, developed within the text linguistics, this study identifies a reservoir of forms which underpin the composition and the configuration of the reviews. Besides, the discursive perspective allows us to get a sense the speaking subject of the reviews as a transition for speech and knowledge. The literary critic actually benefits from putting himself in an institutional position that marks his/her relation to knowledge in order to have the best influence on the reader. The challenge is to identify possible linguistic markers which serve this argumentative approach. Finally, the metatextual perspective obliges us to conceive the review in its relationship with the source text. The book review is a real dialogue with the criticized book, the criticism explicitly exploits strategies borrowed from the literary and journalistic speeches. Textual processes of repetition such as reformulation, quotation, allusion or contamination threat to undermine the metatext into a hypertext. These three axes allow to approach the review as a genre, in the interface between text and discourse. The results confirm the idea that the genre must be approached not in a static way, as a list of invariants, but in a dynamic way, as the product of the interference of several discursive genres. Finally, what is at stake is a better understanding of the production and of the reception of the reviews

This research use Sentiment Analysis (SA) technology to the medical community, where the text is patient-authored text, PAT. Analysis of patients in the medical community activities, we can get valuable information on the emotional condition. Sentiment analysis of the current research, mostly to social networking sites, movie reviews, product comments ... etc. In previous studies, some technologies can be applied to the domain of medical community, but still some different situations, such as referred to of drugs, symptoms or disease. Our data source selection famous foreign medical community website "www.patientslikeme.com".This study explores the past of Standards and Technology SA is available for patient-authored text, and the classification results with two labels (positive, negative) and three labels (positive, neutral, negative) rendering. In this study, the two methods sentiment: natural language model (pattern-based) and machine learning (support vector machine, SVM), Pattern-based approach uses Adv Verb Combine &; Adv Adj Combine (AVC &; AAC) and Adv Verb Adj Combine - SentiWordNet (AVAC-SWN) to classification texts by the rules. Machine learning algorithms: SVM has been frequently used in the SA. In this study, we proposed Semantic Weighting method to modify the text of semantic weightage, using the Pattern-based generating sentiment score to change weightage. Finally we compare with the baseline of SVM which is unigram as features and frequency as weightage. The results show that the results of two labels classification or three labels, AVC &; AAC is better than the AVAC-SWN. The reason is that, AVAC-SWN is more suitable for product reviews and not for PAT text. In SVM, we will be divided into three types of data, 1) all text, 2) medical-related text and 3) express simple sentiment text. The results showed that applying Semantic Weighting to classify all text and express simple sentiment text is better than baseline performance. The medical-related text overall result is ineffective, neutral and negative sentiment are raised but positive classification effect is reduced. This type of data comprising 50% negative label sentiment text, this situation illustrates the text discuss medical-related is more complex or obscure. In the future we will keep working on influence between medical-related text and sentiment behaves.

The age of big data has come. Nowadays, auditing work combined with emerging information technologies to analyze the volume of data that is gradually expanding. The summary content in the accounting entries can be used as a symptom to identify the anomaly. Because of the description of the entries, except for the account and the amount, the description of the transaction is recorded in the abstract and presented in short text, so it is not easy to use traditional data analysis to know The meaning of the entry and the risk of false representation of the financial report. Therefore, this study applies Text Mining Technology to sort out and analyze a large number of words to identify the potential risk of the abstract, and assist the auditor to find the accounting entries that are suspected to be abnormal. This study based on the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) and using Text Mining technology combined with REA analysis theory, and building the risk assessment prototypes structure. The purpose is to explore the feasibility of using Text Mining technology to analyze accounting voucher, and to analyze the summary of accounting entries in a single account by taking the accounting general ledger cycle as an example. The REA ontology method is used to classify, generalize and integrate the abstract content, establish the screening conditions for potential risk transactions, find the characteristics of high-risk events, and find suspected abnormal accounting entries to improve the audit effect and efficiency. Finally, experienced personnel assess the completed architecture to know the effectiveness and feasibility of building a risk assessment prototypes structure. After the interview assessment, the following conclusions were drawn: 1.A summary of accounting entries can be used to analyze the characteristics of fewer or unusual words, and to quickly and effectively detect voucher with risks. 2. The risk vocabulary related to each account can be established, and the audit can be used in the future, by eliminating low-risk words and screening out abnormal accounting voucher with potential risk words. 3. Through the established risk assessment model, high-risk voucher with unusual frequency or abnormal amounts can be found, and these are often abnormal data that the auditors cannot easily find out based on past audit sampling.

Journal papers provide professional domain knowledge. Nevertheless, emerging of information overloading causes considerable cost of time. Application of text categorization technology could help users to retrieve domain journal papers efficiently. Four phases of text categorization process are “text pre-processing”, “document feature construction”, “applying classification methods” and “evaluation”. This research probes for the effectiveness of: feature weighting, fields of articles and classifiers during the process of journal papers categorization, and also applied sampling distribution classifier within the process. The hypothesis test analysis shows that: 1st, feature ratio performs well significantly than feature frequency. 2nd, fields of abstract are more effective than titles and keywords of journal papers, and there are no difference between the latter two. 3rd, Support vector machines are most effective, then naïve-bayes, decision trees and sampling distribution classifier in order. And 4th, text categorization of journal papers is feasible. Additionally, analysis and recommendation of sampling distribution classifier are also proposed for the future study.

Many researchers have compared predicted stiffness and damping coefficients for tilting-pad journal bearings (TPJBs) to measurements. Most have found that direct damping is consistently overpredicted. The thrust of this research is to explain the difference between measured and predicted stiffness and damping coefficients for TPJBs, and to provide some confidence to designers that TPJB dynamic coefficients can be accurately predicted. Most analytical models for TPJBs are based on the assumption that explicit dependence on pad motion can be eliminated by assuming harmonic rotor motion such that the amplitude and phase of pad motions resulting from radial and transverse rotor motions are predicted by rotor-pad transfer functions. In short, these transfer functions specify the amplitude and phase of pad motion (angular, radial, translational, etc.) in response to an input rotor motion. A new pad perturbation model is developed including the effects of angular, radial, and circumferential pad motion and changes in pad clearance due to pad bending compliance. Though all of these pad variables have previously been included in different analyses, there are no publications containing perturbations of all four variables. In addition, previous researchers have only perturbed the journal, while both the bearing and journal motions are perturbed in the present analysis, and the applicability of comparing rotor-perturbed bearing impedance predictions to impedances measured on a bearing-perturbed test rig is discussed. This perturbation model was implemented in a Reynolds-based TPJB code to predict the frequency-dependent bearing impedances and rotor-pad transfer functions. Direct measurements of pad motion during test excitation were recorded to produce measured transfer functions between rotor and pad motion, and a comparison between these measurements and predictions is given. Motion probes were added to the loaded pad (having the static load vector directed through its pivot) of a 5-pad TPJB to obtain accurate measurement of pad radial and tangential motion, as well as tilt, yaw, and pitch. Strain gages were attached to the side of the loaded pad to measure static and dynamic bending strains, which were then used to determine static and dynamic changes in pad curvature (pad clearance). Good agreement was found between the amplitude of the measured and predicted transfer functions concerning radial and transverse pad motions throughout the range of speeds and loads tested, while pad tilt was moderately underpredicted. For the bearing investigated, radial pad motions resulting from pivot compliance were as large as 60% of the radial component of shaft motion when operating at 4400 rpm under heavily loaded conditions. Hence, if a dynamic load applied to the shaft resulted in a shaft displacement of 25 microns (1 mil), the pad would displace radially 15 microns (0.6 mils), and the fluid film height would only decrease by 10 microns (0.4 mils). The consequence of this pad motion is that fluid film stiffness and damping forces produced by relative rotor-pad motions are significantly reduced, resulting in a bearing having significantly less direct stiffness and damping than predicted. A similar effect occurs when shaft motions produce significant changes in pad clearance due to pad compliance. For the pad tested here, the measurements show that predicting TPJB stiffness and damping coefficients without accounting for pad and pivot compliance will produce large errors, and is not advised. Transverse pad motion was predicted and observed. Based on phase measurements, this motion is lightly damped, and appears to be caused by pivot deflection instead of slipping. Despite observing a lightly damped phase change, an increase in magnitude at this natural frequency was not observed. Predicted direct stiffness and damping for unit loads from 0-3200 kPa (0-450 psi) fit through 1.5× running speed are within 18% of measurements at 4400 rpm, while predictions at 10200 rpm are within 10% of measurements. This is a significant improvement on the accuracy of predictions cited in literature. Comparisons between predictions from the developed bearing model neglecting pad, pivot, and pad and pivot flexibility show that predicted direct stiffness and damping coefficients for a model having a rigid pad and pivot are overestimated, respectively, by 202% and 811% at low speeds and large loads, by 176% and 513% at high speeds and high loads, and by 51% and 182% at high speeds and light loads. While the reader is likely questioning the degree to which these predictions are overestimated in regard to previous comparisons, these predictions are based on measured operating bearing clearances, which are 20-30% smaller than the cold bearing clearances that previous comparisons were based on. The effect of employing a full bearing model (retaining all of the pad degrees of freedom) versus a reduced bearing model (where only journal degrees of freedom are retained) in a stability calculation for a realistic rotor-bearing system is assessed. For the bearing tested, the bearing coefficients reduced at the frequency of the unstable eigenvalue (subsynchronously reduced) predicted a destabilizing cross-coupled stiffness coefficient at the onset of instability within 1% of the full model, while synchronously reduced coefficients for the lightly loaded bearing required 25% more destabilizing cross-coupled stiffness than the full model to cause system instability. This overestimation of stability is due to an increase in predicted direct damping at the synchronous frequency over the subsynchronously reduced value. This increase in direct damping with excitation frequency was also seen in highly loaded test data at frequencies below approximately 2×running speed, after which direct damping decreased with increasing excitation frequency. This effect was more pronounced in predictions, occurring at all load and speed combinations. The same stability calculation was performed using measured stiffness and damping coefficients at synchronous and subsynchronous frequencies at 10200 rpm. It was found that both the synchronously measured stiffness and damping and predictions using the full bearing model were more conservative than the model using subsynchronously measured stiffness and damping. This outcome contrasts with the comparison between models using synchronously and subsynchronously reduced impedance predictions, which showed the subsynchronously reduced model to be the most conservative. This contrast results from a predicted increase in damping with increasing excitation frequency at all speeds and loads, while this increase in damping with increasing excitation frequency was only measured at the most heavily loaded conditions.

The hundred-chapter version of the Journey to the West is written by the novelist in the Ming dynasty with stories drawn from Da tang xiyu ji 大唐西域記 (The Western Regions of the Great Tang), a historical record of Tang Xuan-zang’s 唐玄奘 journey to the west, and Cien sanzang fashi zhuan 慈恩三藏法師傳 (The Legand of Sanzang Master from the Mercy Temple) written by Xuan-zang’s student Hui Li 慧立. Moreover, the hundred-chapter version of the Journey to the West is based on Da Tang Sanzang Qujing Shihua 大唐三藏取經詩話 (The Poetry of the Procurement of Scriptures by Tripitaka Master of the Great Tang). As to the form of the Journey to the West, the author adopts complex styles of both vernacular narrations and verses. In fact, one of the special features of the Journey to the West is the author’s skillful weaving of his religious thoughts into the verses in the hundred-chapter version of the Journey to the West. The issues related to the Xin jing 心經 (hereafter, Heart sutra) have been pointed out by Xia Zhi-qing 夏志清. However, the ideas related to “prajna” in the Journey to the West have not been discussed and analyzed systematically. Therefore, I will first identify the passages, especially those found in verses, related to ideas of “prajna” in the Journey to the West. The purpose of this study is to come up with a new method of textual analysis and reading the vernacular novels through which the Buddhist thoughts in the Journey to the West can be appreciated in a deeper level. I will discuss the history of the use of the verses in Chinese vernacular novels. In the third chapter, I will try to find the differences between contents of the Duo xin jing 多心經 (hereafter, The Sutra of Duo Heart) in the Journey to the West and the Heart Sutra in Buddhist canon. From Chapter Four to Chapter Six, I will classify the verses into three parts in order to analyze the expressions related to “prajna.” The first part is the contents, which reflects the thought of the author of the Journey to the West. The second part is the images of pilgrims, which are related to the Heart Sutra, and the third part is the images of Wukong 悟空, which are related to the main idea of Wukong 悟空 (awakening to emptiness). At the end of this research (Chapter Seven), I will draw the conclusion and explain the insufficient part of this research. The important discovery in this thesis is how the languages in the Journey to the West reflects the synthesis of the three teachings in Ming China. The in-depth religious thoughts and the unique ways in which these ideas became interwoven with other religious elements in the Journey to the West, can be found not only in the plots or characters as other researchers have suggested, but also in the verses which contain recurring themes such as “prajna.”

Electronic journals have become widely used dissemination mode since the rise. Recently, libraries are affected by the increasing price of electronic journals and the slow growth of purchases budget, they must rigorously select electronic journal resources to construct collections in line with the research needs. Open access (OA) is considered one of the solutions to the above problems. However, people need to pay attention and carefully assessed to the issues of OA. This study analyzes the usage of journals in different types of access through full-text availability and Citation analysis, to understand the distribution of types of access to journals, the citation comparison between OA and non-OA literatures, and the long-term preservation of journals. Completely explores the development of LIS electronic journals, and provides suggestion about the development and utilization of electronic journal to library. In this study, the journal lists provided by JCR, DOAJ, CiteScore metrics, Eigenfactor, Manzari and four university libraries are selection standard for object of study. There are 92 journals and 4,111 literatures in total, Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar are citations query tools of literatures. The results of this study showed that 57 journals are hybrid OA, 18 journals are direct OA, 11 journals are TA, 4 journals are delayed OA, and 2 journals are part OA. Furthermore, commercial publishers publish 48 hybrid OA journals, more than other publishers. In the full-text availability, 2,059 articles contain OA full-text, and 1,433 articles contain publishing edition full-text. In addition, websites of journals are the largest type of full-text archives where contain 1,012 OA full-texts. Moreover, people can access numerous articles at academic social network sites, and institutional repositories of college, associations, professional organizations and government organizations. It is worth noting that hybrid OA journals published the most literatures than the others, but only 41.87% of the literatures contain OA full-texts. In terms of the citation of articles, the data show that the proportion of citation to hybrid OA journals is higher than direct OA journals, and the gap is from 1.91% to 15.53%. However, the difference between the citation to OA and non-OA articles is less evident. It probably is one of the factors that may affect the times cited of articles because the proportion of citation to the non-OA articles having OA full-texts is higher than which having no full-text. Besides, the more OA full-texts articles have, the more times cited for article. In the long-term preservation of journals, the situation of journals published by commercial publishers and university publishers is better; learning and professional organizations are less involved in long-term preservation programs. At present, the main type of LIS journals is hybrid OA, and nearly half of the articles do not contain OA full-text. In addition to archive researchers’ articles into institutional repositories actively, colleges should also encourage researchers to make good use of academic social network sites. Libraries can integrate diffused OA journals resources with their collection, to enhance the integrity of the collection. Universities, associations and professional organizations should aim at maintaining permanent access to resources and participate in long-term preservation programs.

This composition portfolio and exegesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, contains original creative works supported by a comprehensive commentary. The submission consists of one volume in two parts containing primary materials of original libretti and musical scores, and the secondary component of an explanatory exegesis. Part A includes the major oratorio work, called Bushfire Oratorio, as well as two small oratorio studies or minor works, called Bright Star: Estelle and Lionheart: The Threshold. Part B is comprised of an exegesis, which provides a commentary on the genesis, libretti writing and composition approaches, limitations and elucidations of the original works in the portfolio. Appendices follow the exegesis and include a list of sources, compact discs of sound recordings, and several other compositions relevant to the research. The purpose of the research was to investigate composing both the text and the music for oratorios linked by the archetypal literary form of the hero’s journey. The research method combined the creative roles of librettist and composer and, in doing so, facilitated a deeper understanding of the genre today. The disciplines of creative writing and musical composition overlap in this work and it is the convergence of these distinct trajectories in oratorio that was the focus of the research.

There has been a huge increase in the costs of the journal collection at the University of Natal, Durban Libraries. This is due to the increased foreign exchange rate compounded by the frequent increase in the price of journal subscriptions. The library budget has not been able to keep pace with these increases in materials. The consequence is the cancellation of journal subscriptions together with the erosion of new book purchasing. To cope with this situation, libraries are coming to measure their collections and looking at alternative ways to overcome this journal crisis. The development of the technology of computers has greatly widened access to information but still at a cost in money and specialized skills much higher than is required for access to the traditional media. With the technology, the user can access the information or journal from anywhere not necessarily in the library but from home as well as the office. The patron can access various information sources from one point. For this study a multi-pronged method was employed. The methods employed were a literature review, a review of the documentary sources, an analysis of the journal data, surveys by self-administered questionnaires to the users – postgraduate students and academic staff in the Faculty of Science and an interview with the Acting University Librarian, Ms Nora Buchanan. One important element of the survey was to obtain in-depth information on journal usage patterns. The study was interested in determining whether the shift from print to electronic would affect journal usage patterns and dependence on the physical library. The findings of the survey demonstrated that usage patterns have changed and now favour the use of e-journals. There are, however, certain advantages to both formats and it is important to take advantage of both. The University Librarian interviewed recognized the popularity of e-journals and saw that over time the journal collections will shift from print to electronic. The archiving of online content remains a concern and print is still regarded as a short-term answer to the archive problem. The analysis of the journal data revealed that print and e-journal prices increased substantially each year, with the exception of 2004, for various reasons. But the print journals increased much more than the e-journals. The findings of this study could be drawn on to inform policy and practice regarding journal acquisition at the Howard College Libraries, University of KwaZulu-Natal and possibly other libraries as well.

The most popular paradigm for Jesus is 'Jesus as the Divine Saviour'. This image is inadequate for understanding the historical Jesus, because it is also inaccurate as an image for the Christian life. Marcus J Borg claims that the Christian life is about a relationship with God that involves us in a journey of transformation. In advocating the 'Third Quest', Borg develops an alternative image of 'Jesus as Jewish mystic ', contrary to the idea of 'Jesus as Jewish/Christian Messiah '. The image of Borg involves five universal religious personality types. The paradigm shift from 'Jesus as the Divine Saviour' to that of 'Jesus as Jewish mystic' is investigated as well as the relevance and consequences of this, for everyday religion and the conventional church. A plea for a positive assessment of the issue of the historical Jesus is presented. This could have existential implications for South African society as a whole.

The aim of this study was to investigate the role that humanistic techniques play in reducing feelings of language anxiety associated with oral communication in the TESOL classroom. Students in the experimental group attended classes which incorporated humanistic techniques such as journal writing and group work and where the affective needs of the students were taken into account. Students in the control group were provided with the normal course content along more traditional lines and their affective needs were not taken into account. Language anxiety was measured by means of questionnaires, journals and interviews. The results revealed that general feelings of anxiety about oral communication decreased in the experimental group. The experimental group achieved higher scores in the final written examination although there was no significant difference in the oral examination results between the two groups. The drop-out rate in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group.

L’ouverture au monde est de rigueur chez les jeunes d’aujourd’hui au Québec comme ailleurs. Membres d’office de la génération Y, les jeunes sont d’emblée familiers avec les « nouvelles technologies ». En effet, les moyens numériques et les réseaux sociaux n’ont plus de secrets pour eux et leur permettent de nouer contact à l’échelle de la planète. Il devient dès lors tentant de partir à l’aventure, sac au dos, afin de se conformer à l’ouverture au monde vue comme une qualité. Le présent mémoire de maîtrise envisage le backpacking, c’est-à-dire la façon de voyager qui a actuellement la cote chez les jeunes, en particulier les étudiants, en mettant un sac sur son dos et en partant à l’aventure afin de pouvoir enrichir les qualités qu’ils reconnaissent à leur propre personne. En effet, quitter son épicentre social, souvent seul, en « voyageant léger » dans des contrées étrangères contribue à la capacité d’agir de son propre chef et d’être soi-même, en acquérant des qualités susceptibles de mettre en exergue leur individualité. La tendance se conçoit en théorie à la lumière des thèses sur l’individualisation présentes en sociologie et qui, ici, seront considérées avec nuances. L’analyse mise en œuvre s’appuie sur des entrevues semi-directives recueillies de la bouche de backpackers jugés représentatifs de cette inclination à mettre sa routine quotidienne entre parenthèses afin de vouloir agir par soi-même. Or, l’étude produite dans les pages du mémoire révèle que, à leur niveau, ils voyagent librement, mais en ayant en main téléphone intelligent ou portable grâce auquel ils restent constamment connectés avec leur épicentre social, leurs parents et amis, qui ce faisant exerce un pouvoir d’inflexion sur leur périple et sur leurs agissements à l’étranger. Comment expliquer ce paradoxe? Voyager sac au dos dans l’intention d’agir par soi-même, mais être continuellement sujet au regard des autres, lesquels peuvent gouverner à certains égards la marge de manœuvre propice à l’individualisation qui a valeur de qualité. Voilà ce que cherche à expliquer ce mémoire.
Being open to the world is trending with today’s youth in Quebec and elsewhere. Members of the Generation Y, young people are already familiar with "new technologies". Indeed, the digital ways and the social media networks have no secret for them, and allow them to keep in touch on a worldwide scale. It then becomes tempting to leave on an adventure, a bag on their back, to conform to the view of being open to the world as a quality. The present Master’s thesis considers the notion of backpacking, namely a trending way of travelling by young people, in particular students, by putting a bag on their back and leaving on a journey to enrich their qualities as individuals. Indeed, leaving their social epicenter, often alone, while traveling "light" in foreign parts of the world contributes to their capacity to act on their own initiative and acquiring qualities susceptible to highlight their individuality. This trend is theoretically designed in the light of theses about individualization present in sociology and which, here, will be considered with nuances. The current analysis leans on semi-directive interviews from backpackers considered representative of this inclination to put their daily routine on hold in order to act by themselves. The study produced in the pages of this report reveals that, at their level, they travel freely, while keeping a smart phone or a portable device which they constantly remain connected to their social epicenter, their parents and friends. In doing so, the devices exercise a power of inflection on their trip and on their actions abroad. How do we explain this paradox? Backpacking with the intention to act on their own, but constantly be subjected to others opinions, which in turn can in some respects govern the control facilitating individualization at its quality value. That is what the Master’s thesis tries to explain.

A abordagem do empreendedorismo sobre diferentes perspetivas de investigação tem adquirido uma relevância crescente ao longo dos anos, dando origem a um vastíssimo campo de estudo que procura avaliar os seus determinantes e consequências. Assim sendo, o objetivo desta dissertação consubstancia-se, em termos gerais, no estudo das principais dimensões em que a análise académica do tema do empreendedorismo se desdobra ao longo das últimas décadas. No que concerne à metodologia, esta tem como suporte uma análise bibliométrica de dimensão elevada e com extrema importância uma vez que permite identificar pistas decisivas para o mapeamento do campo. Para tal, foram selecionadas 20 revistas internacionais, de acordo com o "ranking" da "Association of Business Schools" (ABS), que deram origem à base de dados utilizada, reunindo um número que ultrapassa largamente os 10 000 artigos, publicados ao longo de 30 anos. De seguida, foi realizada uma análise de "text mining", que visou identificar os temas mais proeminentes e respetivas interconexões. Deste modo, o estudo realizado permitiu reconhecer o forte dinamismo e abrangência de uma área de investigação tão desafiante quanto o empreendedorismo, comprovando a relevância de técnicas de síntese que evidenciem os seus aspetos mais relevantes. Por fim, o enfoque adotado neste estudo possui o detalhe possível acerca de cada aspeto particular, dado o seu distinto grau de cobertura e abrangência. Sugerem-se assim, uma análise mais detalhada de algumas revistas e respetivos conteúdos, a avaliação pormenorizada dos artigos gerados pelos autores de referência e o recurso a metodologias adicionais no que respeita às referências bibliográficas.
The approach of entrepreneurship by different perspectives of research has acquired an increasing importance over the years, giving rise to a vast field of study that seeks to evaluate its determinants and consequences. Thus, the objective of this dissertation is, in general, the study of the main dimensions that academic analysis of the entrepreneurship has developed over the last decades. Regarding the methodology, the study is supported by a bibliometric analysis of high dimension with extreme importance once it allows to identify decisive clues for field mapping. To this end, 20 international journals were selected, according to the Association of Business Schools (ABS) ranking, which gave rise to the database used, bringing together a total of more than 10,000 articles published over 30 years. Afterwards, a text mining analysis was carried out, aiming to identify the most prominent themes and their respective interconnections. Therefore, the study made it possible to recognize the strong dynamism and scope of a research area as challenging as entrepreneurship, proving the relevance of synthesis techniques that highlight its most relevant aspects. Finally, and given the approach in this study, the same has as much as detail as possible about each particular aspect, given its wide degree of coverage and comprehensiveness. We suggest a more detailed analysis of some journals and their contents, a detailed evaluation of the articles generated by the reference authors and the use of additional methodologies regarding bibliographic references.
