Interpretacja stylistycznaArtykuł skupia się na ściśle stylistycznej analizie epizodu śmierci Kloryndy z Jerozolimywyzwolonej w tłumaczeniu Piotra Kochanowskiego.Riccardo Picchio w 1977 r. opublikował nowatorski artykuł z punktu widzenia metodologicznego,pozostawiając na boku rozpowszechnione aż dotąd podejście do interpretacji polskiejwersji tego poematu, a mianowicie podejście za mocno uwarunkowane stosunkiem pomiędzydwoma tekstami, Tassa i Kochanowskiego. Włoski badacz postarał się przedstawićw nowym świetle arcydzieło polskiego poety: zamiast podkreślić domniemane usterki jegotłumaczenia, Picchio udowodnił, że bardzo często Kochanowski nie przełożył Tassa wedługnaszych oczekiwań nie z tego powodu, że nie umiał dorównać Tassowskiemu mistrzostwu,a raczej dlatego, że miał inne zamiary co do ogólnej koncepcji swojego poematu.Także w przypadku epizodu śmierci Kloryndy okazuje się, że poeta unikał najwyraźniejszychcech stylistycznych tekstu Tassa (ciągła i prawie obsesyjna obecność krwi oraz seksualnośćbohaterki), aby przedstawić czytelnikom raczej grę Losu/Szczęścia z postaciami, przedewszystkim z Tankredem, który walczy, nie będąc tego świadom, ze swoją ukochaną i w końcują zabija.Słowa kluczowe: Piotr Kochanowski, Tasso, Gerusalemme Liberata, Goffred, Klorynda,Tankred, stylistyka "Goffred – Gerusalemme Liberata" XII 59–68. A stylistical interpretationand some methodological observationsAbstractThe article focuses on the strictly stylistic analysis of the episode of Clorinda’s death inGerusalemme Liberata translated by Piotr Kochanowski.In 1977 Riccardo Picchio published an article that was innovative from the methodologicalpoint of view, leaving behind the prevalent approach to interpretation of Polish version ofthe poem, i.e. an approach too strongly conditioned by the relationship between two texts –Tasso’s and Kochanowski’s. Italian researcher attempted at presenting the masterpiece of thePolish poet in a new light: instead of highlighting the alleged faults of the translation, Picchioproved that Kochanowski did not translate Tasso according to our expectations most oftennot because he could not achieve Tasso’s perfection, but rather because he had a differentplan for a general concept of his poem.In the case of the episode of Clorinda’s death it turns out that the poet avoided the mostdistinct stylistic features of Tasso’s text (constant and almost obsessive presence of blood and the sexuality of the character). Bulk cargo is being transported in large parcels to reduce transportation cost calculated per unit of cargo. Its main categories are: liquid cargo, dry bulk cargo and special bulk cargo. The deadweight of the fleet of ships carrying bulk cargo by sea increased 3.4 times in 1990-2020. Dry carriers account for 55% of the fleet and their deadweight increased 4.4 times during the same period. The Oil and oil products tankers account for 37% of the deadweights which has been increased by 2.4 times. The majority of the oil tanker tonnage (over 98%) comes from VLCC, Suezmax and Aframax type vessels. 60% of this is 200 thousands tankers sized more than dwt. The oil tanker freight market in 2002-2019 was characterized by a high level of volatility. VLCC tanker time-charter equivalent ranged from $ 8.7-95.2 thousand in 2002-2019. The variability of time-charter rates in other oil tanker categories was similar. The major part of the tonnage of product tankers (more than 90%) is derived from from LR2, LR1 and MR2 type of vessels. 43% of these are LR2 tankers. This segment of the freight market was also highly variable. LR2 tanker time-charter equivalent ranged from $ 7.5-28.8 thousand in 2011-2019 years. The main part of the tonnage of dry cargo vessels (over 69%) comes from Capesize, Panamax and Supramax type vessels. This segment of the freight market has been declining and highly volatile in recent years. The capesize-type ship time charter equivalent ranged from $ 3.5-30.8 thousands in 2011-2019. Abstract Due to the great danger of the collision of oil tankers, lots of research on the collision of oil tankers has been carried out. But, at present, the research on the collision of oil tankers mainly focuses on the loading condition of the struck ship, ignores the impact on the loading condition of the striking ship. However, during the actual oil tanker collision, the striking ship is generally in the state of loading. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out the analysis of the impact of the loading condition of the striking ship on the collision damage of the oil tanker. In this paper, the effect of striking ship with loading on the impact performance of the side structure during the collision of the cargo double hull oil tanker has been investigated. The ship collision model was established by using the finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA which is based on 7000 tons of double hull oil tankers. Based on the analysis of the collision force, impact of striking speed changes, impact of striking deep changes and structural energy absorption during the collision process, the influence of the striking ship with loading on the damage mechanism and the impact performance of the double shell oil ship side structure was expounded. The results show that the influence of the striking ship with loading can be great to the damage to side hull during the research of the collision performance of the oil tanker.

Object and purpose of research. The paper considers specialist vessels for re-fueling gas-engined ships, so-called LNG bunkering tankers (LNG bunkering ship as per the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping). The purpose is to formulate recommendations regarding the bunkering tanker fleet configuration for a marine port taking into consideration their functioning model and projected demand for natural gas motor fuel. Materials and methods. Operational experience of the ship type under consideration as well as the performance factors have been generalized and analyzed. Statistics of bunkering companies operating on the St. Petersburg port market have been collected and systematized enabling us to give recommendations for the projected fuel demand. Main results. Operational characteristics of bunkering tankers in the port bunkering infrastructure have been generalized. An approach is suggested for justifying the required number of LNG re-fueling tankers based on the game theory. The main factors defining the volumes of LNG fuel required in port are highlighted. A case study is given for validation of the bunkering tanker demand in numbers for the port of St. Petersburg. Conclusion. Bunkering tankers are a key link in the bunkering infrastructure of any harbor. LNG tankers are growing in numbers every year, which is related to more stringent requirements for environment pollution and reduced discharges from vessels in operation. This study enables justification of bunkering tanker numbers early in the design of a port bunkering infrastructure.

The author approaches the subject of translating for theatre both as a theatre practitioner and professional translator working in three languages. Translation is generally regarded as process of linguistic transfer from one language to another language in written form. Theatrical texts are an unique literary form because their written form is a base, anchor and springboard for the text in performance. Until recently, translation studies have tended to oscillate between lofty pronouncements which remain too general to be easily applicable to the practical task of translating and close textual analysis which may appear fastidious and overly specific. The art of translation has often wanted to call itself a science, thereby ostensibly increasing its credibility. However nowhere more in the context of theatre can it be justifiably called an art, with all that entails in terms of subjectivity, cultural bias and transitory or timeless validity. There is no such thing as a perfect translation. Translation is a process of endless learning. Several translation theorists have offered broad categorisations or lengthy rationalised lists to help define the parameters of this most tangible practice. No such lists exist which addressed the specific criteria of translation for theatre. Through personal experience and critical reflection, this thesis will offer the beginning of a blueprint which may be useful for translators working in this field

O transporte marítimo de petróleo e derivados é componente fundamental da cadeia de suprimento da indústria do petróleo, integrando fornecedores e clientes localizados em regiões geográficas distintas. Neste contexto, os valores de fretes praticados possuem grande impacto no comércio internacional destes bens. O objetivo deste trabalho é verificar o desempenho de modelos de Regressão Dinâmica em previsões de frete marítimo de curto prazo do mercado spot de uma rota de exportação de petróleo do oeste da África para a China, comparar a capacidade preditiva do modelo com métodos tradicionais, vastamente discutidos na literatura, como Amortecimento Exponencial e modelos ARIMA e projetar cenários para avaliar como as variáveis explicativas presentes no modelo de Regressão Dinâmica proposto neste estudo afetam o frete marítimo. O produto desenvolvido nesta dissertação mostrou a viabilidade de os modelos univariados e causais serem utilizados como ferramenta de previsão da taxa frete de navios petroleiros. Como forma de validação, os resultados foram comparados aos obtidos com a metodologia vigente em uma grande empresa de petróleo do Brasil. O protótipo de sistema de previsão proposto, via Regressão Dinâmica, apresentou resultados satisfatórios e desempenho superior ao obtido através da metodologia da empresa de petróleo.
Crude oil and oil products seaborne transportation is a key component of the petroleum industry supply chain, integrating suppliers and customers located in different geographic regions. In this context, the freight rates practiced have a great impact on the international trade of these goods. This work aims to verify the performance of Dynamic Regression models in short-term maritime freight forecasts of the spot market of an oil export route from West Africa to China, to compare the predictive capacity of the model with traditional methods, widely discussed in the literature, such as Exponential Smoothing and ARIMA models and to design scenarios to evaluate how the explanatory variables present in the Dynamic Regression model proposed in this study affect freight rate. The product developed in this dissertation showed the viability of the univariate and causal models being used as a forecasting tool for the oil tankers freight rate. As a form of validation, the results were compared to those obtained with the methodology of a large Brazilian oil company. The proposed prediction system prototype, through Dynamic Regression model, presented satisfactory results and performance superior to that obtained through the methodology of the oil company.

The present work is conducted within the context of air to air refuelling technologies and aims at the development of an understanding of a typical refuelling tanker wake like that of an A330 [54] and the A400M [54]. The wake is particularly investigated within the near field and extended near field wake regions in close vicinity to the rear fuselage. Moreover, the interaction between the wake and the refuelling hose is studied including the resulting hose characteristics. A number of refuelling conditions and aircraft models are considered for the investigation of the wake. Moreover, an arbitrary hose fairing model is considered to study the effect of the fairing on the flow field and the refuelling hose. Different refuelling configurations are taken into account for the investigation of the hose characteristics. Various hose exit positions were studied within the near field wake to assess the impact on the hose characteristics. The probe hose engagement with the associated hose whip phenomenon is a major topic within this work. The hose whip is a highly undesired phenomenon and is amplified by a specific hose shape which is characterised through an inflection point along the hose. The present research reveals that the rear fuselage wake has a crucial impact on the hose characteristics. In particular, the rear fuselage upwash is the primary cause for formation of the undesired hose inflection point. The findings obtained from the present research are used for the suggestion of palliatives to avoid undesirable hose characteristics. In particular, there is one approach recommended which aims at the avoidance of a hose-upwash interaction. It leads to the suggestion of a circumferentially shifted and radially displaced hose exit and deployment of the refuelling hose.

The trend to larger ship size is also reflected in feasibility studies considering very large Arctic tanker design concepts. A review of current Arctic tanker structural design practice is offered including an examination of two recent Arctic tanker designs to compare; Steel-weight and benefits of two types of ice belt structures Ice belt scantlings determined to RS ice category and IACS Polar Class rule requirements The Arctic tanker of the future is expected to be a significant step outside of the accumulated design and operation experience base of existing Arctic tankers. For future Arctic tankers it is then expected that new practices for structural design will be required and applied.

A practical approach to determine the structural design loads of turret moored FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) tankers is suggested in this paper. The linearized restoring forces acting on the ship hull by the mooring system are calculated according to the catenary theory. The effect of the restoring forces is included in the equations of motions of the ship in the form of linear stiffness coefficients. The hydrodynamic coefficients are calculated by the three-dimensional potential flow theory. The equations of motions are solved in frequency domain, and the motions and wave loads responses can be obtained. Then the short-term and long-term analyses are carried out for the wave loads of this kind of ship. With a 250m turret moored FPSO tanker as an example, according to the given environmental sea states data, headings, exceeding probability for the FPSO tanker, the structural design loads are calculated and compared with those obtained from rules for traditional tankers with the same dimensions. By the present approach, it is possible to perform a practical and efficient calculation of structural design loads of actual turret moored FPSO tankers.

Based on long-time theoretical and experimental work in authors group, assessment methods of ultimate strength of ship hulls are analyzed and improved. Nonlinear finite element analysis method (FEM), idealized structural unit method (ISUM), simplified method (SM) and analytical method (AM) are integrated into a software system of direct calculations of large tankers. Using this software system, a comparative calculation is performed on ultimate hull girder strength of a 300,000dwt double hull tanker and the calculation results are also compared with the single step procedure of Common Structural Rules for double hull tankers (JTP CSR).

Arctic LNG is getting to be increasingly feasible and seems to become a prospective transporting method for natural gas in the near future. Recent evaluation of geological information has suggested that 25% of the world’s remaining natural resources lie below thick ice in the Arctic offshore. Russian Arctic offshore has according to estimates 31% of the world’s known and currently unexploited reserves of natural gas. Longer-term prospects are therefore promising. A six-fold increase in LNG trade from now until 2030 is expected [1]. Over this longer term it seems likely that exploitation of the giant natural gas fields of the Western Arctic regions of Russia will enhance the development of Arctic LNG shipping. Increasing energy demand is driving greater interest in the exploration and production of natural gas in the Arctic Region. This creates a challenge for shipping gas in such extreme conditions. In this paper, we mainly investigate the overall LNG market. And explore available alternative transportation options. Over the last five years there has been significant research and development done in the areas of LNG ships and ice-class tankers. In this paper the most promising ship design and power concepts of Arctic LNG ships/tankers are going to be reviewed. We will discuss in detail recent developments and trends in LNG ship and ice-strengthening tanker design such as: • The first large double-acting ice-class tanker (DAT) design • Double acting pusher puller barge (DAPPB) design Also, offloading systems for LNG carriers are going to be touched upon in this paper. Analysis of the mentioned above concepts will be carried out with Russian Arctic Offshore Yamal region as an example. Potential solution for the issue of Arctic-class tankers’ limitation to navigate in thick ice areas is ship-to-ship LNG transfer, which is also presented in this paper. Arctic tanker could transport its cargo of LNG to the edge of the ice sheet and transfer the load to another, faster vessel, or perhaps offload at a dedicated storage site. The possible offloading concept from shore to offshore in the harsh ice condition of this region and further loading to tankers seems to be very feasible issue to observe. Comparison between two offloading system like STS (ship-to-ship) and Tandem in the Arctic condition will be given.

The conversion of ageing tankers is a tempting alternative to newbuildings when FPSO units are planned. The low cost of an already classified hull and an existing pumping facility compensate for the repair and updating costs a conversion may demand. Newbuildings on the other hand allow for improved production plant and storage tank lay-out. The trade offs between conversions and newbuildings are analyzed from the point of view of strength and general arrangement. Converted tankers carry a serious strength drawback since the emptied engine space enhances the high buoyancy region at the stern which significantly increases bending moment amidships. In general one or more cargo tanks must be kept at partial loading to compensate for the increased bending moment. A new building lay-out is analyzed in which the tanker engine space is completely eliminated. Utility systems are resized and placed on the main deck aft of the production plant. Accommodation spaces are also resized and rearranged in order to fit into the reduced deck space available. The gains in strength are quantified and the lay-out implications are discussed in detail. A comparative study is presented between a conversion of a hypothetical tanker and an equivalent new building.

An accurate estimation of corrosion rates plays an important role in determining corrosion allowances for structural designs, planning for inspections, and scheduling for maintenance. This paper presents an estimation of corrosion rates of structural members in oil tankers based on a corrosion wastage database of over 110,000 thickness measurements from 140 single hull oil tankers. Corrosion rates may be described by a Weibull distribution function. Mean, standard deviation and maximum values of corrosion rates for structural members are obtained based on the entire population of the database. They are compared with the ranges of corrosion rate published by Tanker Structure Co-operative Forum (TSCF). The study aims to update knowledge on corrosion rates in steel ships, and to contribute to the efforts of mitigating the risks of corrosion.

To meet the needs of weight-light of ships, topology optimization for oil tankers has been proven to be more effective and promising. Nevertheless, due to its characteristics of topology optimization, massive restriction conditions and load-cases, long-time calculation and differences of the strain energy between different load-cases, there are still problems during this process. The objective of this article is to discuss topology optimization design of primary support members in cargo tank region for oil tankers. Here we select SIMP algorithm as the topology algorithm to achieve optimization design of the cargo tank structures. Main control parameters of topology optimization such as optimization subjects, optimization variables, design regions, restrictions, weight of load-cases and volume fractions are all in consideration. The modeling methods and analytical methods of topology optimization are expounded based on HCSR. According to the study, we conclude a detail topology optimization process of primary support members for oil tankers under complex constraints and complex forces. A case is given of an oil tanker with a single longitudinal bulkhead to explain the algorithm and achieve clear topology configuration.

A geostationary FPSO does not weathervane like a turret-moored ship-shaped FPSO. The offshore industry has limited experience for direct offloading from such geostationary installations in the North Sea. In recent years direct offloading operations from geostationary FPSOs by DP shuttle tankers, have been developed, and key operational principles for such a system are presented in this paper. Probabilistic modeling of the collision risk between shuttle tanker and geostationary FPSO in direct offloading is presented, followed by a case study. It is found that the collision risk level is much lower in the direct offloading than in the tandem offloading. The results demonstrate that the direct offloading approach is a promising concept with inherent safety designed in the operations, i.e. the positioning philosophy of the shuttle tanker and a large separation distance.

This paper summarizes the results of extensive research on the design loads used for strength assessment of merchant ship structures such as tankers, bulk carriers and container ships. The main aim of the research was to develop practical estimation methods of design loads having rational technical backgrounds acting on primary structural members of tankers, bulk carriers and container ships. During this study: 1) The design sea states that closely resemble the actual sea states which are considered as the most severe for hull structures are proposed. 2) The practical estimation methods of the design sea states are proposed by parametric studies using the results of series calculation of representative merchant ships. 3) The practical estimation methods of design regular waves resulting in the same level of stresses with that induced in irregular waves under the design sea states are proposed. 4) The practical estimation methods of the design loads such as ship motions, accelerations, hull-girder bending moments and hydrodynamic pressures that are induced under design regular waves are briefly introduced. The findings in this study have been summarized and implemented in the new design standards for tanker, bulk carrier and container ship structures. In late 2001 classification societies Lloyd’s Register, the American Bureau of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas (LR, ABS and DNV) announced plans to standardize a wide number of mutually agreed upon initiatives covering survey and engineering. This standardization process was precipitated as a response to calls for more robust requirements as well as a Class response to calls for improvement made by governments, industry and the general public. One of the initiatives was the establishment of a joint tanker project team (JTP) to develop Common Structural Rules for Tankers so that competition on structural requirements (safety) would be eliminated. Once the common rules are finalized and in effect, they will replace the current tanker rules of LR, ABS and DNV. This paper outlines the rule development process, key technical aspects of the common rules, the impact to the design scantlings, and future maintenance of these rules.

Commercial vessels transiting the Savannah entrance channel intermittently generate large wake events at Tybee Island, Georgia, creating a potential hazard for beachgoers. However, not all commercial vessels generate large wakes, and the relationship between vessel dimensions, operating conditions, wake height, and drawdown magnitude is unclear. This study evaluates bathymetric data, high-frequency wave and vessel wake measurements, and broadcast vessel identification over a 4-month period with the goal of providing a quantitative characterization of vessel wake conditions at Tybee Island. Data from 1,386 cargo vessel passages and 202 tanker passages indicate that vessel dimensions (length and beam) are positively correlated with drawdown magnitude and secondary wake height, although large vessels do not consistently generate large wakes. Container ships, which tended to travel faster than tankers, corresponded to the largest wakes in the dataset. A further hypothesis is that tidally modulated energy dissipation may favor smaller vessel wake uprush at low tide and larger uprush at high tide, but this idea cannot be confirmed without additional measurements to quantify nonlinear wave propagation on the beach face. Based on the collected data, the study concludes with four recommendations for reducing risk to beachgoers.
