Annotation:

Chosen valleys and couloirs of the Polish part of the Western Tatra Mountains from the perspective of linguistics and geomorphology The purpose of this article is an interpretation of 145 names of chosen valleys and couloirs of the Polish part of the Western Tatra Mountains. There are solely oronyms, which consist of two main components – valley or couloir and other lexemes that show various characteristics of their designations. The study has shown that the information on the topographic nature of an object that recorded in its name is sometimes not compatible with the given geographic term that assigned to the object. This problem can be shown on the example of names excerpted from the publication Rzeźba Tatr Polskich (1988) by Klimaszewski. These oronyms were compared with names excerpted from the monograph Polskie Tatry Zachodnie (1996) by Kunicki and Szczerba. The objective has been achieved using the classification of toponyms by Kornaszewski (1986) that shows how to discern the motivational meaning of toponyms. Zarys treści: Informacja o charakterze topograficznym danego obiektu utrwalona w jego nazwie nie zawsze jest zbieżna z określeniem, jakie można by mu przypisać, patrząc nań geomorfologicznego punktu widzenia. W celu unaocznienia tego problemu oraz podjęcia próby odpowiedzi na pytanie dotyczące powodu nieprzystawalności toponimu do typu danej formy terenu poddano interpretacji ponad 145 wybranych nazw dolin i żlebów polskiej części Tatr Zachodnich. Onimy wynotowano z pracy Klimaszewskiego pt. Rzeźba Tatr Polskich (1988) i zestawiono z nazwami zawartymi w monografii Polskie Tatry Zachodnie (1996) autorstwa Kunickiego i Szczerby, które dotyczą tych samych desygnatów. Obserwacji poddano wyłącznie te nazwy, których podstawą członów określanych są apelatywy dolina i żleb. Inspiracją klasyfikacji przyjętej w niniejszym artykule jest propozycja Kornaszewskiego (1986) umożliwiająca dostrzeżenie w każdej z nazw motywacji semantycznej leżącej u podstaw procesu nazwotwórczego. Abstract The article analyzes the situation of Serbs in Kosovo in terms of its reception by contemporary Polish nationalists in the magazine “Szczerbiec”. Serbian topics in Polish nationalist communities can count on special interest and recognition. The nationalist environments of many countries are showing solidarity with the Serbian nation in Kosovo and demanding recognition of their rights to these lands. The sympathy shown by Serbs to Poles, whose Slavic origins are linked, is pointed out. It can be assumed that the characteristics, attitude and views of the Serbs will foster mutual relations in the future.

W roku 1710 Jan Domaszewski funduje w swojej wsi Domaszewice drewniany kościół. W latach 1721-1722 Franciszek i Zofia Nowosielscy wznoszą i uposażają dla dominikanów drewniany klasztor. Od tego też czasu część wsi należąca do dominikanów nosi nazwę Zofibór. Dominikanie prowadzili w Zofiborze misje ludowe i zajmowali się prowadzeniem przyklasztornego folwarku. Obecny drewniany kościół został wybudowany po pożarze poprzedniego w 1854 wieku. W 1864 zakon dominikanów uległ kasacie. Dopiero w 1914 roku utworzona została przy kościele św. Zofii parafia. Przez lata zatarła się pamięć o zofiborskich dominikanach. Pamiątką po nich są zachowane we wnętrzu kościoła podominikańskie barokowe wizerunki świętych dominikańskich Dominika i Wincentego Ferreusza, namalowany przez Stanisława Szczerbica obraz Matki Boskiej w typie Eleusa (1628) oraz obraz patronki sanktuarium św. Zofii.

A new species of rock lizards of the genus Darevskia Arribas, 1999 — Darevskia arribasi sp. nov. is described from vicinity of Ertso Lake in South Ossetia. In comparison of Darevskia arribasi sp. nov. with other species of the «saxicola-brauneri» complex [D. lindholmi (Szczerbak, 1962), D. saxicola (Eversmann, 1834), D. brauneri (Mehely, 1909) (including D. b. brauneri, D. b. myusserica Doronin, 2011, D. b. darevskyi (Szczerbak, 1962), and D. szczerbaki (Lukina, 1963)], the new species is characterized by the smallest body size among all representatives of this complex L♂♂ — 55 – 62 mm; ♀♀ — 58 – 63 mm. The number of scales around the middle of the body (Sq.) in D. arribasi sp. nov. (52 – 58, more often 54 – 56) also significantly less than for D. saxicola sensu lato in generally. Along the throat from ear to ear fold there are 36 – 42 scales, less than in D. saxicola sensu lato. Two large preanal shields present in front of the anal shield in half of the individuals examined; in a quarter of individuals on both sides of the small central preanal there are by one enlarged lateral preanal shield, in another quarter all preanal shields are of the same size. Central temporal (Massetericum) always developed; always six pair of mandibulars, three in contact; collar straight, extremely rarely slightly serrated; ribs on the caudal scales are expressed to some extent; rostral usually separated from frontonasal by nasal shields. The coloration of adult males is olive-lettuce, or olive-brown from above; adult females are grey-brown; juvenile coloration coffee-brown with the blue and black spots on the edge of the outer ventral shields at the middle of trunk. Taxonomical status of new species is well supported with result of analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome b data.

A new endemic species, Cyrtodactylus thochuensis sp. nov. from Tho Chu Island in Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve off the southern coast of Vietnam, is differentiated from all other species of Cyrtodactylus by the following combination of characters: maximum SVL 86.3 mm (n=6); no precloacal groove; 3-5 precloacal pores arranged in an angular series; a series of enlarged femoral scales contacting a wide patch of enlarged precloacal scales; 3-6 intersuparanasals in contact with rostral; 20-26 strongly keeled, longitudinal rows of tubercles at midbody; and 30-40 transverse rows of ventral scales between the ventrolateral folds. This species most closely resembles C. condorensis Smith and C. paradoxus (Darevsky & Szczerbak).

Abstract. Back fat thickness (BFT) and intramuscular fat (IMF) contents are known as major issues affecting meat performance. Several types of fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs), which involve signal transduction pathways, are abundantly presented in tissues such as intestine, liver, kidney, mammary gland, heart, and red skeletal muscle (Nechtelberger et al. 2001). FABPs have been reported to be differentially expressed genes during porcine adipogenesis (Samulin et al. 2008) and related to fat deposition (Szczerbal et al. 2007). Accordingly FABPs may be candidate genes to explain variation of fat related traits in pigs. Therefore, it is an essential process to search genetic variants that may provide useful genetic information to study associations with quantitative loci (QTL).

The results of statistical analysis of morphological characters and the study of the cytochrome b gene variability (mtDNA) of rock lizards of the Darevskia (saxicola) complex distributed in the Caucasus and the Crimea, have shown significant differentiation within this complex, assuming specific independence of D. szczerbaki (Lukina, 1963) and subspecific status of recently described D. brauneri myusserica Doronin, 2011. According to our data, within D. brauneri (Mehely, 1909) only two forms of subspecific status can be distinguished, namely D. b. brauneri and D. b. myusserica. In our opinion, Lacerta saxicola darevskii Szczerbak, 1962 (= D. brauneri darevskii) should be considered to be a junior synonym of D. b. brauneri. The possible scenarios of range formation in the Darevskia (saxicola) complex are discussed.

W XVI w. w polskich miastach zaczęły powstawać drukowane dzieła prawnicze oparte na prawie magdeburskim. W artykule przeanalizowano je pod kątem obecności odwołań do istotnego w tym prawie symbolu miecza. Użycia słowa miecz/gladius w pracach Cervusa-Tucholczyka, Jaskiera, Cerasinusa, Groickiego i Szczerbica poddano typologii według intensywności sensu symbolicznego („znaczenie dosłowne”, „język i obyczajowość”, „symbol pojęć abstrakcyjnych”). Przeanalizowano przypadki należące do poszczególnych kategorii. Zbadano także ich obecność w poszczególnych tekstach, co doprowadziło do wniosku o zależności intensywności (jakościowej i ilościowej) tych odwołań od stopnia bliskości danego tekstu do Zwierciadła saskiego i Weichbildu oraz od obecności w danym tekście glosy. Postawiono wniosek o nikłej recepcji ideowych treści prawa niemieckiego w miastach polskich. Propozycje wyjaśnienia tego zjawiska odwołują się do 1) braku w Polsce rozróżnienia między miastami dysponującymi i niedysponującymi iure gladii, 2) odmienności struktur politycznych Polski i obszaru niemieckojęzycznego, 3) zakorzenienia symbolu miecza na obszarach niemieckich, wyrażającego się i wtórnie wzmacnianego istnieniem figur Rolandów. Symbolika miecza była zatem w Polsce pozbawiona oparcia w przestrzeni miejskiej i w wyobrażeniach politycznych. Postawiono także tezę, że prawo magdeburskie nie służyło określaniu pozycji polskich miast w szerszej strukturze ani zapewnianiu ideowych podstaw ich funkcjonowania jako wspólnot politycznych.

We study the spectral appearance of an evolving post-AGB object by means of two-fluid radiation hydrodynamics (gas and dust) in spherical symmetry. The stellar parameters as well as mass-loss rates are assumed to vary consistently with the stellar model calculations of Blöcker (1989, Diplom Thesis, University of Kiel) for a 3 M⊙ sequence, resulting in a 0.605 M⊙ remnant. The expelled mass is assumed to consist of spherical astronomical silicates with grain radii of 0.1 μm and an initial dust-to-gas mass ratio of 7.5·10−3. Виявлено, що національне відродження Польщі не обмежувалось суто політичною діяльністю, а й здійснювало діяльність: науково-видавничу – у формі Національно-радикального інституту, що існував з 1995 р., який започаткував і керував видавничою серією під назвою: Бібліотека «Щербця» («Szczerbca»); парамілітарно-виховну, яка прийняла форму молодіжної скаутської організації Hufce Polskie, що існувала з 1996 року; на профспілковому полі – створено власне профспілкове відділення під назвою Вільна профспілка «Наша справа» («Nasza Sprawa»); академічну – наприклад, шляхом створення клубів, академічних секцій в вищих навчальних закладах (наприклад, в Університеті Миколи Коперника в Торуні, Національна секція Незалежної студентської асоціації була створена в 1996 році, яка проіснувала до 1997 року); релігійну – не лише підтримуючи католицьку традицію в партійній пресі, а й беручи участь у паломництві або залучаючи до роботи католицькі організації, такі як Асоціація «Christus Rex», або засновуючи власні, такі як Братство св. When, in the beginning of 2009, the Party of Free Citizens was founded, it was believed that the main impulse for establishing a new political party was the generally positive approach towards the Lisbon Treaty adopted by the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) a couple of months before. Thus, since its foundation, the media, commentators and political analysts have labelled the Party of Free Citizens as a single issue Eurosceptic party. This article challenges this prevailing evaluation of the Party of Free Citizens and subsequently confronts the party´s programs and press releases with three concepts – the concept of Euroscepticism connected with the work of Taggart and Szczerbiak, the concept of a single issue party developed by Mudde, and the concept of a niche party brought into political science by Meguide. The article concludes that while the Party of Free Citizens is undoubtedly a Eurosceptic party, both in terms of its soft and hard versions, its overall performance as a political entity does not meet the criteria of Mudde´s concept of a single issue party. As the Party of Free Citizens puts a strong emphasis on European issues (compared to other mainstream Czech political parties), it can, at most, be described as a niche party.

We consider the language L(Q), where L is a countable first-order language and Q is an additional generalized quantifier. A weak model for L(Q) is a pair 〈, q〉 where is a first-order structure for L and q is a family of subsets of its universe. In case that q is the set of classes of some equivalence relation the weak model 〈, q〉 is called a partition model. The interpretation of Q in partition models was studied by Szczerba [3], who was inspired by Pawlak's paper [2]. The corresponding set of tautologies in L(Q) is called rough logic. In the following we will give a set of axioms of rough logic and prove its completeness. Rough logic is designed for creating partition models.The partition models are the weak models arising from equivalence relations. For the basic properties of the logic of weak models the reader is referred to Keisler's paper [1]. In a weak model 〈, q〉 the formulas of L(Q) are interpreted as usual with the additional clause for the quantifier Q: 〈, q〉 ⊨ Qx φ(x) iff there is some X ∊ q such that 〈, q〉 ⊨ φ(a) for all a ∊ X.In case X satisfies the right side of the above equivalence we say that X is contained in φ(x) or, equivalently, φ(x) contains X.

In papers [4,5] Pawlak introduced the notion of a rough set and approximation space. In [6] Pawlak formulated some concept of rough logic. The notion of the approximate truth was considered by many philosophers and logicians and in the last time by computer scientists. This was motivated by some research in artificial intelligence as for example expert systems, approximate reasoning methods and information system with imprecise information. The concept of rough logic introduced in [6] based on the notion of approximate truth determined by rough sets. Following these ideas Rasiowa and Skowron in [7] proposed the apropriate first order logic for concepts of rough definability. We denote this logic by LR. In [9] Szczerba proposed some logic with additional quantifier as rough concepts logic. We denote this logic by L(QR). The aim of this paper is a comparizing of these two logics with respect to their expressive power and giving some propositions of some modificated versions of rough concepts logics. Abstract Background: The presence of circulating tumor cell (CTC) clusters is associated with tumor progression and with a bad prognosis in various cancer types1,2. In breast cancer, a pre-clinical model demonstrated that Na/K-ATPase inhibitors such as digoxin could dissolve CTC clusters and reduce metastasis3. DICCT is a single-arm, therapeutic exploratory phase I study aimed to examine whether digoxin can disrupt CTC clusters in metastatic breast cancer patients (NCT03928210). Material and methods: Metastatic breast cancer patients in whom clusters of CTCs have been detected were eligible. Patients with concomitant heart disease were excluded. After progressive disease in any line of therapy, a window of opportunity before initiation of subsequent systemic therapy was used to administer digoxin treatment for seven (7) days. For CTC detection, blood samples were processed with the FDA-cleared Parsortix system (ANGLE plc, UK). Captured CTCs were stained for EPCAM, HER2, EGFR (positive CTC selection) and CD45 (exclusion marker). To gain insight into the cluster-dissolution ability of digoxin, the primary endpoint was size of CTC clusters (i.e. number of cells within each cluster) under digoxin therapy. The cumulative effect of digoxin treatment on the primary endpoint was assessed by a linear regression model. Results: Nine (9) patients with CTC clusters detected at baseline were enrolled. A target level of digoxin above 0.7 ng/ml could be confirmed at day 7 for all patients. For quantitative and qualitative analysis of CTC clusters, 5.5 to 27 ml of blood were analyzed at baseline, at day 0 pre-treatment, and post 2 hours, 3 days and 7 days of digoxin treatment. The average cluster size ranged between 2 and 11.8 cells (median 2.9) considering all samples from all patients. Digoxin treatment reduced cluster size in 8 patients (88.9%) to different extents, and the proportion of CTC cluster over single CTCs was also reduced in 6 patients (66.7%). The effect of digoxin was evident in both homotypic (cancer cells only) and heterotypic (aggregates of CTCs and white blood cells) clusters. The treatment was well tolerated, and no adverse events related to the study treatment occurred. All patients completed the treatment according to the protocol. Conclusion: DICCT provides the first-in-human proof-of-principle that digoxin induces a partial dissolution of CTC clusters in patients with metastatic breast cancer at drug levels that are safe and well tolerated. W swojej epoce uznawany był za uczonego wysokiej rangi; Bartłomiej Paprocki (ok. 1543–1612) pisał o nim jako o człowiekuw cnotę i mądrość bogatym; natomiast sam Szczerbic wątpił w swe umiejętności. W dzisiejszych czasach pisarz traktowany jest jako jeden z najwybitniejszych tłumaczy pism prawniczych oraz polityczno-filozoficznych doby renesansu, mistrz słowa doskonale radzący sobie z materią językową, równocześnie w kwestiach prawnych jego dzieło pozostaje w cieniu tłumaczeń Bartłomieja Groickiego, w kwestiach filozoficzno-politycznych zestawia się je z niedościgłym wzorem samego Lipsjusza.
