Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIndoor localization research has generated many of potential techniques and algorithms. Identifying RFID tags in an indoor environment with perfect accuracy is not a trivial task for many applications in industry, a marketplace, or a supply chain. Localization systems have been maturing as the number of applications requiring such capabilities has increased in popularity\cite{29} \cite{20}. In businesses, these applications allow intelligent process manufacturing, increasing productivity and enabling reliable product flows. Based on these systems, many processes need to localize and identify the movement of RFID tags. Marketplaces, shops, hospitals, or simple conveyor belts for supply chains can benefit from these tracking systems. However, most of these techniques do not take into account the influence of the real constraints to which the radio signal of the physical system is subject. Although this localization problem has been addressed in lots of treatments, it remains unsolved for systems that need precision. In this thesis, our solution involves identifying RFID tags in movement from others referred to as RFID static tags. We have based our methodology on the classical configuration supply chains scenario involved in industrial and market warehouse use cases. We completely identify which RFID tags are moving and which tags are placed outside and static by the time the conveyor belt supply chain process has ended. We developed our approach by proposing an identification method with two main variations. In its first variant, the method is hybrid and works directly in the application layer, which allows a non-intrusive, custom made and articulate RFID tag identification and classification. In its second variant, we also associate our solution with a physical layer constraint, to limit and optimize the identification zone. The evaluation of the performance shows an excellent precision in a practical industrial operational zone, validated with lots of experiments conducted in a real indoor application under different conditions and using classical setup devices

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe monitoring of small animals in laboratory tests and the remote analysis of their behavior, with low cost and in real time interest researchers for a long time. This can be done by implanting miniature wireless sensors requiring vital components among which the most challenging is the antenna. Indeed, the main difficulty in designing antennas for bio-implantable communication devices is to provide an effective radiating structure, despite the volume constraints and the high impact of the surrounding biological tissues. Although many studies have focused on the use of implanted antennas dedicated to the MICS band (402405 MHz), it should be noted that at these frequencies, the size of the antennas can be a real disadvantage in the case of small animals, requiring miniaturization structures. Another solution consists in the using RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology in the UHF band at 868 MHz. Indeed, it has two major advantages: it facilitates the implementation of the tag and does not require the addition of a battery to power the implanted device. This thesis funded by the ANR (French National Research Agency) within the framework of the Labex UCN@Sophia aims at designing a wireless system, including implantable RFID tags, reader's antennas and the reader connected to a computer that is responsible for the centralized management of information on a server for monitoring and collecting the data of laboratory mice. This thesis presents the design of implanted antennas for RFID tags in a homogeneous model representing the body of a mouse. After an analysis of a link budget allowing to determine the minimum performance of the implanted antenna to be designed for a reliable and an efficient communication, two RFID passive tag antenna designs have been optimized to obtain final structures able to be implanted or injected in the back of a mouse. A characterization of the proposed solutions in terms of impedance, E and H fields and SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) was then performed in a homogeneous phantom. Finally, an interrogation system capable to estimate the position of several animals placed in a cage thanks to the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) levels is presented

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe Radiofrequency Identification technology (RFID) has had a huge growth these last years, due to its versatility and the uncountable possibilities to integrate this technology in many different application (tracking and inventory of goods, access control, supply chain, etc.), and in particular the brand new context of internet of things projects. For some years, the near field UHF RFID applications has been developed in order to overcome the problems related to degradations of tag's read range when needing to use it in a perturbing environment. The research work presented in this thesis come as a study of the UHF RFID in near field and far field zones. This study focus more particularly on the design of reader and tag antennas and on the characterization method in near field and far field zones. A study on the characteristics of fields outgoing from an antenna has been made, in order to underline the important criteria for the design of performant UHF RFID reader antennas in near field zone. From the state of art about tag antennas design and classical methodologies, we propose a new approach that aims improving the design of tag antennas in a more suitable point of view that is getting the expected power level in a given application. Finally, with an objective to characterize UHF RFID tags, we first propose a new approach enabling the identification of tag families, and then propose a new innovating power transfer efficiency measurement procedure, that has been validated experimentally
Mughal, Aiman. „Statistical analysis of the coupling effects between tags in the RFID links“. Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Gustave Eiffel, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024UEFL2002.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleDifferent empirical studies show that the effect of mutual coupling and the random position and orientation of tag antennas in a reduced volume result in a degradation of key performance indicators of an RFID system such as the read-range and the read-rate. This thesis takes part in the performance analysis of such an RFID system by exploring the physical phenomena behind the degradation and by introducing statistical techniques into investigations. Prior to the group behaviour investigations, the sensitivity and the impedance of two RFID chips (Higgs-3 and Higgs-9) have been measured. Two RFID tags have been used, a commercial one (ALN-9662) associated with the Higgs-3 chip and a home-made tag, which has been fabricated in laboratory to match the Higgs-9 chip. The read range of both tags has measured along with their antenna impedance. The measurement results have been confronted to electromagnetic simulations. In order to study various cases involving randomly positioned tags, an electromagnetic model and simulation tools (HFSS and NEC) have been used and the conclusions are based on their results while cross-validated in a few cases by measurements. To simplify any further, the RFID tags are modelled by a set of half-wave dipoles, with and without T-match, and the reader is replaced by a plane wave. The objective is to confront the behaviour of a single isolated tag to that of the same tag while surrounded by other tags and to conclude on the impact of the antenna type, the density of tags, the terminating load and the wave polarisation on the output under observation. The RFID link is studied through its forward and reverse links and by using a conventional grid model for tags including coupling. A thorough power budget analysis is conducted and the absorbed power at the level of the loads (chips) and the reradiated power at the level of the antennas are assessed. Regarding the forward link, the ratio of the absorbed power by the chip of a surrounded tag to that of an isolated tag is called normalised absorbed power and constitutes a useful tool to estimate the percentage of inactivated tags in the set. Regarding the reverse link, the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of loaded antennas with short-circuit and matched loads have been studied. The differential RCS of the isolated tag and that of the surrounded one has also been evaluated and the impact of coupling on the backscattered power have been studied. As in a high-density random context, predicting the system performances in a realistic way with a deterministic approach is impossible, several configurations of randomly positioned and oriented tags and dipoles have been simulated and the conclusions are drawn using statistical analysis. In other words, at the end of this study, the performance degradation of a particular tag in a given configuration of surrounding tags needs to be evaluated individually but the statistical moments as well as cumulative distribution functions allow to predict the behaviour of a population tags under given conditions. This thesis helps the RFID designer to assess the performance of an RFID scenario and eventually adjust some input parameters such as the density of tags in order to attain the desired objectives

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleUHF RFID technology, also known as RAIN RFID, is a passive technology that enables the automatic identification of items. Thus, it bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds by allowing an item to become alive on the Internet of things thanks to inexpensive and battery-free RFID tags. Passive UHF RFID technology has witnessed a significant development due to the accelerated growth of sophisticated technological devices. This development is largely driven by the supply chain and the retail industries. Passive UHF RFID Gen2, among other tracing and identification solutions, is the logical choice given the low costs of large-volume tags, ease of printing and being battery-free, the need for maintenance is completely eliminated. The main concern of resellers, the withdrawal of the product, is mainly affected by errors related to visibility (stock gap, theft, loss) and human errors. It is, therefore, necessary to improve visibility and automate the process. Despite its advantages, RFID deployment in supermarkets is still facing many obstacles and challenges. In this thesis, we focus on technological availability by defining and analyzing the different challenges and possibly proposing the appropriate solutions.First, the maximum reading distances of passive tags are evaluated in different environments in order to identify the factors impacting them. At the end of this study, an alternative characterization method is proposed to control tag performance and identify tagged objects with poor performance. Secondly, we will use this method to propose a new solution to improve detection. The algorithms behind this solution allow readers to negotiate their configurations with the environment and with each other. Finally, a new location algorithm is proposed to improve accuracy. This algorithm is based on the exploitation of the answers of the reliable tags of the medium. The proposed solutions are universal, compatible with market readers and add no cost to the hardware used for detection

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study deals on the development of components of the first floor of a passive RFID tag. These include an integrated antenna and a rectifying device. The realization of components is based on silicon technology at very low temperature (T<200°C). The first part of this work consists on the realization of a thin film diode-connected transistor and a Schottky diode. These two elements are required to form the rectifier system operating at 13. 56 MHz. Static electrical behavior were investigated to derive their main parameters. The second part is devoted to the use of components, in this case the thin film diodeconnected transistor and Schottky diode with an interface gold / microcrystalline silicon in a rectifying circuit operating at 13. 56 MHz. Their ability to provide a perfectly continuous signal after receipt of a sine wave of frequency 13. 56 MHz is demonstrated. Also in this section the realization of an antenna dedicated to act as receiver and provider of the AC signal, is discussed. Its operation as a substitute for sinusoidal voltage generator in the rectifier circuit is validated

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe activities of passenger and goods transport are constantly increasing worldwide and especially in the European Union, including the edge of tolls. To improve the fluidity and reduce the risk of congestion, one of the solutions is automatic toll payments. The objective of this thesis is to enhance the performance of vehicle identification systems and to contribute to develop a design of a classification vehicles system by using electromagnetic waves for free-flow electronic toll collection system application. This system allows an automatic payment without stopping vehicles. The first part of this thesis deals with the study of two vehicle identification systems: UHF RFID and DSRC. Five new antennas were realized with the purpose to increase the communication range as well as to reduce the size and cost of the system. They are high gain and easy to be industrialized. The second part of this thesis is devoted to the study of a classification of different types of vehicles from the scattered waves captured by the system. Three methods of vehicle classification are proposed and tested in the road environment. Such system detects the presence of vehicle and measures the distance between vehicle and itself with a good accuracy. The principle of the system is based on Ultra-Wideband radar technology in which transmitting signal with a very short duration pulse is used

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleMany technical advances have emerged in recent years in medicine and surgery. They allow to live better and longer. While efforts have been made in the development of innovative devices, their in vivo monitoring has shortcomings, particularly with regard to implantable devices, critical entities implanted in a fragile environment. Thus, at present, the fact is that a product of the agri-food industry is better followed than a medical device implanted in a patient. The problems raised by this lack of traceability are numerous: impossibility of controlling medical devices once implanted, impossibility of having well-filled materovigilance registers, for example. In addition, there is also a lack of data on the behavior of implants in vivo, which are essential for their monitoring and improvement. The aim of this thesis is to develop a device capable of both identifying and tracing all knee prostheses in the world, and to provide a means of control of these prostheses once implanted. For this, two devices are studied: a long-term passive electronic implant (with all the constraints imposed by this type of implants: biocompatibility, biostability) and an innovative imaging system, low cost and not exploiting any radiation or products injection

The final application is dedicated for the sport, in order to collect the performance of an amateur football player by using a connected ball and a connected strap. This device is based on the passive RFID. The system is composite of: a wearable antenna placed on the ankle, able to communicate with RFID tags inserted inside the ball. At the end of the match, the statistics collected by the sensors are sent by using BLE connection to a totem in order to display them. Two main objectives are targeted in this thesis: the first one is designing a broadband and multistandard antennas for readers, able to minimize the influence of the human body without sacrificing reading distance, the second objective is designing a resistant antennas for RFID tags

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present work focuses on the technical feasibility study of i-GUIDE system which is a real time indoor navigation system dedicated to assist persons inside hypermarkets. We detailed its functional analysis. Then, we studied the impact of integrating the system inside hypermarkets. We opted for an UML design to describe its main functionalities and objects required. We presented architecture of i-GUIDE system based on RFID technology with an Android application. Furthermore, we introduced optimization approaches based on tabu search to compute the route visiting items existing in a shopping list for two problems. The first one treats the shortest path to pick up items and the second one adds a time constraint for promotional items. Before computing the shortest path, we introduced a method to determine distance between each two items existing in the hypermarket

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleRadio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been deployed in various applications, such as inventory control and supply chain management. In this thesis, we present a systematic research on a number of research problems related to tag counting and monitoring, one of the most fundamental component in RFID systems, particularly when the system scales. These problems are simple to state and intuitively understandable, while of both fundamental and practical importance, and require non-trivial efforts to solve. Specifically, we address the following problems ranging from theoretical modeling and analysis, to practical algorithm design and optimization. To lay the theoretical foundations for the algorithm design and optimization, we start by studying the stability of frame slotted Aloha. We model system backlog as a Markov chain. The main objective is translated to analyze the ergodicity of the Markov chain. We then establish a framework of stable and accurate tag population estimation schemes based on Kalman filter for both static and dynamic RFID systems. We further proceed to addressing the problem of missing tag detection, one of the most important RFID applications. Different from existing works in this field, we focus on two unexplored while fundamentally important scenarios, missing tag detection in the presence of unexpected tags and in multiple-group multiple-region RFID systems. In the first scenario, we develop a Bloom filter-based protocol. In the second scenario, we develop three protocols by incorporating an improved version of the Bloom filter design

This thesis investigates financial results from RFID integration at product level in semiconductor manufacturing. The thesis explores how the technology might act in concert with other significant logistics tools to create return on investment. In this case, the use of RFID, along with postponement and Kanban practices, may help a manufacturer better align supply with central processing unit (CPU) demand. The resulting economic benefits are explored through yield scenarios. It is important to note that the thesis explores this topic without the benefit of empirical data. Consequently, a number of assumptions were made; these assumptions may affect the validity of the observations. Nonetheless, the study demonstrates an innovative approach that may contribute to new models of creative problem solving.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWe are witnessing today a growing use of RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) systems in various application areas (logistics, production systems, product traceability, etc.). Some of these applications are critical such as food-related cold chain logistics orbaggage handling systems in airports. Nevertheless, RFID are very sensitive to their environment, including electromagneticdisturbances or presence of obstacles, making them error-prone. Also, because of the large number of elements (tags, readers, and sensors) constituting current RFID systems, erroneous behaviors are more frequent. Hence, it is important to address all theproblems related to RFID system dependability and deal with them in order to make these systems more robust. The goal of this thesis is the development of software test and online diagnosis facilities for RFID systems to improve theirrobustness. In recent years, the effective use of RFID systems has seen the development of RFID middleware solutions, whoserole is to provide services for the management of large amounts of raw data of the various RFID sources. Due to the distributednature of current RFID systems, the use of such solutions is of great interest regarding the improvement of RFID systemdependability. In particular, thanks to the integration of dependability mechanisms, specifically the online test and diagnosisapproaches in the RFID middleware solution. In addition, because of the middleware is considered as the backbone of an RFIDsystem, whereby the whole RFID dataflow passes; all the needed information will be availabe to our proposed approaches toperform a correct diagnosis. We proposed several solutions to cover the two main layers of RFID systems; namely, themiddleware layer and the communication layer between the middleware and the data sources, the Low Level Reader Protocol(LLRP). We have proposed a LLRP compliant middleware solution, used to accommodate a probabilistic diagnosis algorithm todetect potential failures of the RFID system components on the basis of a probabilistic model that takes into account theexecution conditions. Then, we proposed a complementary mechanism to the previous algorithm for analyzing the log files ofthe LLRP communication interface allowing further analysis by looking for the causes of the detected failures on the basis of an already defined set of failure signatures. Finally, we proposed an extension of the LLRP standard to make it more reliable bytaking into account several RFID failures

Ln this context, the thesis aims to enable the characterization of passive UHF RFID systems, whether in terms of regulations or real performances observed in operational environment. A first step was to identify the most relevant parameters to measure on the reader and the tag. Then, test procedures have been studied and specifie researches have been conduced in order to make the measurements reproducible and compatible with industrial needs. Thus the number of parameters to be measured has been minimized and the measurement procedure has been optimized. Series of measurements were made on different kind of readers and tags, in free space and in disturbed environments

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleRadio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology designed to use the electromagnetic waves backscattering to establish detection and identification for different types of articles. Due to its longer coverage range, this technology seeks to replace the bars code existing since 1970. Recently RFID developments allow the growth in the number of applications including access control, tracking and logistic, inventory, and even electronic contactless payment between others. With this growing in the RFID services demand, the market value previsions (currently in 12MM euros) show an increase of 3MM euros per year during the next 10 years. Nowadays the RFID has many technical limitations that could explain the fact of the slow growth different of the initial estimation twenty years ago. Two main issues in RFID field are treated in this work. Initially, the variety of supports where the tags are placed on, fact that produce an antenna mismatch due to the electrical permittivity variation. For this problem some UHF tags solutions are developed and proposed to enhance the antennas performance for plastic and metallic supports applications. The second issue which is the low detection rate is clearly linked to the antennas coupling when the tags density is high or to the perturbations in the reader's radiation pattern due to the environment next to the antenna. In order to improve the detection-identification rate in these conditions, a four IFA miniaturized reader antenna with diversity is developed and tested

While RFID technology is improving rapidly, a reliable deployment of this technology is still a significant challenge impeding its widespread adoption. In this paper we provide a brief overview of some common fundamental characteristics of RFID data and devices, which pose significant challenges in the design of RFID middleware systems. In addition, the development of a multi-agent RFID middleware solution to address the RFID data and device management challenges is discussed.

Abstract: Results of measurement campaigns carried out aiming at the development of a tool for design, deployment, and analysis of RFID systems are shown. Particularly, the radio path loss from an RFID reader towards the test TAG and back to the reader is characterized at the 915 MHz band. The path loss is estimated based on the received signal strength measured at the reader, for different reader¿TAG separation distances and different antenna TAG heights. Several propagation scenarios have been considered, including outdoor and indoor environments for which an extensive number of typical real manufacturing plants have been chosen. The field data are then compared to a proposed novel, improved version of the classical 2-ray path loss model, adjusted to include non-omnidirectional antenna radiation patterns at the reader. In addition, the effect of TAG mobility in the received signal at the reader was also investigated, by means of field measurements. To collect the field measurements, an apparatus was designed and constructed, consisting of a mat of controlled speed, on which test TAGs were installed. The results showed that TAG mobility decreases the average value increases the variance of the received signal at the reader. This extra attenuation and the increased variance of the signal are not strongly affected by the value of speed. Finally, these two effects are incorporated into a mathematical model that can be used for simulation and planning of RFID systems

Currently many alternative options exist to satisfy the RFID mandate by Wal-Mart--tag cases at the exit doors, tag all cases at the supplier's warehouse docks, tag a certain section of the warehouse, etc. The big question is how to prevent Wal-Mart suppliers from treating the cost of EPC standard-adoption from just becoming another one of those nagging costs of doing business with Wal-Mart and how the cost of RFID adoption can be leveraged to differentiate the company's products and service levels from that of the non-RFID-adopting/non-RFID-cost-incurring competition. In addition, it is worth exploring how can all of that translate into long-term comparative advantage for a consumer electronics manufacturer. By examining the different scenarios for a Consumer Electronics Manufacturer (CEM) supplier of Wal-Mart that will be RFID tagging small ticket items on a case level, this study proposes an ROI/ROA framework within which investments in RFID can be evaluated and validates through a simulated financial model that positive value exists for early adopters of RFID technology.
