La grande ville africaine, figure emblématique de la métropole des infrastructures, symbolise l’entrée du continent dans la modernité. De Rabat au Cap et de Dakar à Nairobi, chaque métropole dispose de son métro, tram, train express, système de Bus rapid transit (BRT), en exploitation ou en projet. La mise à l’agenda politique de ces grandes infrastructures de transport de masse vient se superposer à la gestion d’un système préexistant faisant coexister un secteur public et un système dit informel, ou artisanal, de transport en commun. La fluidité incarnée par les nouvelles infrastructures se diffuse-t-elle vers les acteurs ordinaires du transport ? Dakar est le terrain d’observation de ces politiques publiques. Les données mobilisées résultent de l’analyse des discours des autorités politiques et gestionnaires et d’une enquête quantitative et qualitative, menée en octobre 2019 sur un échantillon de 180 acteurs du système de transport, dans six gares routières de transport informel devant être déplacées par le BRT. La modernisation du système des transports urbains de Dakar est marquée par l’incertitude des réformes institutionnelles encouragées par les bailleurs internationaux dans une perspective néolibérale. Elle peine encore à apporter une réponse globale, cohérente et efficace articulant internationalisation des infrastructures et de l’offre de services de mobilité et informalité des systèmes préexistants.

The Birimian of West African Craton (WAC) is known for its gold potential. Among Birimian structures, N-S and NE-SW trends have been defined as controlling gold mineralizations in Kedougou-Kenieba Inlier (KKI), whereas some of these structures are not gold-bearing. To determine structures related to gold mineralization, airborne electromagnetic data collected during the “Système Minier” of Mali have been processed and interpreted. Identified lineaments have been followed in the ground to establish their link with gold showings in the Kenieba area. Geophysical interpretations show trends similarity for different orders of conductivity. They allowed for characterizing resistance and conductive structures with prevalent N-S and NE-SW directionalities. Conductive structures are qualified as good conductors and are strongly related to known Artisanal Mining Sites (AMS). They coincide with tourmaline sandstones and quartz-albite veins, which are both often artisanally recognized as indicators of gold mineralization in Western Mali. Field observations show that resistance structures correspond to felsic rocks. These structures can bear gold only when silicified and they have spatial relations with Artisanal Mining Sites (AMS) within the Kenieba area. This study shows the efficiency of electromagnetic methods to characterize Birimian structures in relation to the gold mineralization in Kedougou-Kenieba Inlier (KKI).

Comment s'établissaitétablissait le salaire dans un marché du travail corporatif et spécialisé ? Existait-il une rétribution moyenne ou modale pour chaque catégorie de travailleurs ? Quel rôle jouait la justice civile quand elle réglementait les rapports de travail et les niveaux des salaires ? Cette recherche voudrait répondre à ces questions à propos des maîtres et des compagnons des verreries de Murano entre 1638 et 1692, questions qui sont en fait récurrentes dans toute enquête sur le travail urbain pendant l'Ancien Régime.Les caractéristiques du système de rétribution en vigueur à Murano incitent à s'éloigner des interprétations que l'historiographie propose au sujet des salaires des maçons à l'époque préindustrielle, réorientant l'attention sur la négociation salariale et ses pratiques — autant individuelles que collectives — qui gouvernaient le marché du travail artisanal. A leur tour, les initiatives des corporations et des magistrats vénitiens concernant la formation du salaire soulèvent le problème de la relation entre les ordres économique, corporatif et juridique.

Philippe Ramette et Wim Delvoye sont deux artistes présentant comme oeuvres des artefacts réalisés grâce à des techniques artisanales extrêmement maîtrisées. Cependant ils ne fabriquent rien eux-même : ils ont choisi de déléguer la réalisation à des artisans, et pour cela mettent en place des systèmes de production qui les éloignent considérablement de la posture traditionnelle de l’artiste-artisan. Quels sont les modèles théoriques sollicités par ces pratiques ? Après avoir observé les façons de procéder de ces deux artistes, nous regarderons si ces modèles ne sont pas à rechercher du côté de l’économie plutôt que de celui des autres disciplines artistiques.

À partir du paradoxe selon lequel l’artisanat, « première entreprise de France », constitue un objet d’observation important tout en étant relativement mal connu et peu exploré, cet article propose de décrire la nature de chacune des entreprises qui composent cet ensemble institutionnel. Le but affiché est alors de contribuer à une meilleure intelligibilité de la TPE artisanale en tant que forme d’organisation spécifique, notamment en termes de fonctionnement et de pilotage. En prenant appui sur la transposition au cas de la TPE artisanale, de l’approche identitaire, initialement destinée aux grandes organisations, une représentation conceptuelle du système identitaire de l’entreprise artisanale est proposée sous la forme d’un système identitaire particulier. Cette représentation est ensuite validée par une étude empirique réalisée auprès d’un échantillon de 346 artisans. Les résultats conduisent notamment à mettre en relief deux configurations identitaires concurrentes : celle de l’artisan et celle de l’entrepreneur.

Jusqu’à présent, les travaux portant sur le système hydraulique antique lyonnais se sont essentiellement concentrés sur la ville haute. Si l’existence d’un réseau d’eau sous pression en ville basse était suspectée, aucune synthèse n’a pour autant été entreprise à ce sujet. À partir d’une collecte exhaustive des données relatives aux structures hydrauliques (puits, tuyaux, bassins et fontaines), un état des connaissances des modes d’alimentation en eau sur les pentes de la Croix-Rousse et en presqu’île est réalisé dans cet article. Malgré des conditions d’installation contraintes au niveau de la terrasse alluviale, la zone d’étude présente en effet un potentiel aquifère important et diversifié, qui a su être exploité dès les premiers temps de l’occupation. Les résultats de l’analyse permettent alors d’apprécier une exploitation directe efficiente de toutes les ressources disponibles, en contexte public, d’habitat ou artisanal : galeries de captage, nappes phréatiques, eaux pluviales, eaux de rivière. Techniquement difficile à mettre en œuvre, la conduite de l’eau propre sous pression pose cependant question. Si son existence est clairement attestée sur les pentes de la Croix-Rousse au moins dès l’époque claudienne, au nord et au centre de la presqu’île à partir de la période flavienne, l’origine de son approvisionnement, les conditions techniques de son fonctionnement et les limites de son extension géographique demeurent hypothétiques.

Lors de la conduite d’opérations de construction impliquant de nombreux acteurs et des secteurs industriels différents, une pensée managériale standardisée accompagnée de l’explosion de data réduit la créativité sans toujours prouver son efficacité. Ce constat est illustré dans les domaines de la construction et de la gestion d’infrastructures de transport, de projets industriels et d’équipements structurant un territoire. Mais comment, dans cette profusion informationnelle, identifer les data utiles à la conduite d’opérations de construction ? Revenant à la notion primordiale d’activité, l’article montre comment les paradigmes des modèles de production se sont succédés dans l’évolution de la réalisation des artéfacts nécessaires à l’homme, et ont généré des modèles de représentation et de pilotage. La pensée systémique est mise en œuvre afin de reformuler les modèles précédemment identifiés. L’article met en évidence les objets, les relations et les opérations des différents systémes artisanaux, manufacturiers, industriels... et l’installation des TIC comme système additionnel. L’article constate que ce dernier système apporte une novation importante dans l’échange informationnel qui ne s’exerce plus uniquement entre humains, et montre la nécessité d’une différenciation entre information et data. La conduite de ce polysystème ne peut être assuré qu’en respectant la variété des paradigmes et des cultures techniques des différents systèmes qui le constituent. Ainsi il est nécessaire de savoir repérer et extraire les datautiles à traiter, les relations et les opérations qui existent dans les systèmes dotés de paradigmes dominants (Droit, Subordination, Norme, Commerce, Cybernétique, etc.). Cette étude de la conduite d’opérations contribue à l’émergence de stratégies visant à appliquer des TIC n’appauvrissant pas la variété des systèmes humains, c’est-à-dire ne mutilant pas leur capacité de création. Distinguer l’information comme phénomène du monde organisé et les data comme matière première du monde des artéfacts numériques devrait permettre de réconcilier créativité et efficacité.

Résumé Durant les années 1870, Montréal est une ville en transition ; depuis deux décennies déjà, elle se fabrique un nouveau profil géographique et on assiste à une réorganisation du monde du travail qui va modifier les bases mêmes de la vie familiale. Cet article se propose d'examiner l'économie familiale dans deux quartiers distincts de la ville — Sainte-Anne qui est déjà fortement industrialisé et Saint-Jacques qui est demeuré beaucoup plus artisanal — dans le but de mieux cerner la relation qui existe entre la famille et l'organisation des moyens de production. Selon l'auteur, cette relation est complexe et bi-dimensionnelle. D'une part, la nature du travail disponible va déterminer quels membres de la famille sont plus susceptibles de travailler et ceci peut varier d'un quartier à l'autre ; d'autre part, la démographie et les attitudes culturelles des familles montréalaises vont tout également influencer les moyens de production. Ainsi, parce qu'il y a un grand nombre de femmes et d'enfants disponibles, les industries du textile et de la chaussure atteignent une place de choix dans l'économie de la ville ; par contre, le fait que tant de femmes et d'enfants travaillent dans ces industries fait baisser le salaire et nuit à la main-d'oeuvre spécialisée. Dans la plupart des familles ouvrières, l'insuffisance des salaires, le chômage saisonnier et le surplus de main-d'oeuvre vont faire en sorte qu'il faudra plus d'un travailleur par famille pour assurer la subsistance. Règle générale, on semble avoir préféré mettre les garçons au travail plutôt que les femmes et les filles ; dans le quartier Sainte-Anne, il n'y a que les veuves et les femmes seules qui ont un emploi alors que dans Saint-Jacques, les femmes qui travaillent le font à la maison de par le système du travail au noir. Il arrive également, dans le cas des familles qui n'ont encore que de très jeunes enfants, qu'on tente de boucler le budget en prenant des pensionnaires ou en logeant avec la parenté. En somme, dans la ville qui s'industrialise, le cycle de la vie familiale, la disponibilité du travail et les valeurs culturelles ont, tour à tour, contribué à façonner tant la structure de la maisonnée que le modèle du travail familial.

En Europe occidentale, au cours de la période pré-industrielle, le Verlag-System se caractérise par une grande complexité des liaisons sociales. Marchands, maîtres artisans et ouvriers sont liés par un réseau de relations fondées sur la précarité du système économique, et en particulier son incapacité manifeste à contrôler le processus de production. Cette faiblesse contribue à expliquer en quoi les relations de crédit, les pratiques de paiement différé, de rétribution en nature, etc. prennent une importance stratégique pour les marchands entrepreneurs qui cherchent notamment à contrôler le flux de marchandises provenant des producteurs locaux, et la quantité des produits. Je montrerai dans cet article que ce réseau complexe de relations sociales est la clé de la culture artisanale qui prévaut à l'époque à l'intérieur du Verlag-System et qui se manifeste, entre autres, par des pratiques comme les lundis chômés, les escroqueries, la consommation d'alcool en société ou la fréquentation des tavernes.

Description du sujet. Par manque d’occupations, les populations locales recourent à l’exploitation des écosystèmes forestiers pour couvrir les différents besoins des ménages. Cependant, 80 % des problèmes écologiques reviennent à l’exploitation abusive des Miombo par les activités anthropiques avec une perte de la surface forestière estimée près de 45 km² par an manifesté par un éloignement d’au moins 30 à 50 km.Objectifs. Généralement, l’étude fait une analyse de typologie et productivité des facteurs de production par la spécification des systèmes de production de charbon de bois et produits maraichers dans la région de Lubumbashi, Province du Haut-Katanga en RDC. Spécifiquement, l’étude vise à : (i) identifier et cartographier les sites d’intense activité ainsi que la détermination du profil sociodémographique des maraichers et charbonniers, (ii) analyser la typologie de système de production, les contraintes et les motivations des producteurs, et d’évaluer la productivité des facteurs travail – capital de production en rapport avec le maraichage et le charbonnage.Méthodes. À travers une enquête (entretiens et interviews), 94 chefs de ménages charbonniers, maraichers et charbo – maraichers ont été sélectionnés de façon aléatoire par axe et boule de neige dans les différents sites en vue de collecter les données en rapport les objectifs de l’étude.Résultats. La production de charbon de bois et le maraichage restent encore artisanaux et traditionnels. Il ressort de ces enquêtes que 11 espèces d’arbres ont été identifiées comme essences appréciées dans l’exploitation pour la production de charbons de bois. De l’évaluation de la productivité des facteurs de production, il ressort que l’expérience, la superficie emblavée et le volume de meule sont des facteurs importants dans la production maraichère et le charbonnage qui influent le niveau de rendement à 75 % (volume de meule) et 25 % (superficie emblavée).Conclusion. Le maraichage et le charbonnage des activités capitales qui contribuent au revenu des ménages dans les milieux urbains et périurbains de la ville de Lubumbashi. Face à la conjoncture économique difficile, aux effets néfastes de l’urbanisation et de la croissance démographique, le maraichage et le charbonnage constituent des activités stratégiques pour faire face à l’insécurité alimentaire, au chômage et à la pauvreté. Generally, the study makes an analysis of typology and productivity of production factors by specifying charcoal production systems and vegetable products in the region of Lubumbashi, Haut Katanga Province in DRC. Specifically, the study aims to: (i) identify and map sites of intense activity as well as determine the socio-demographic profile of market gardeners and charcoal workers, (ii) analyze the typology of production system, the constraints and motivations of producers, and evaluate the productivity of labour factors – production capital in relation to market gardening and coal mining.Methods. Through a survey (interviews and interviews), 94 heads of charcoal, market gardening and charbo households were randomly selected by axis and snowball in the different sites in order to collect data related to the objectives of the study.Results. Charcoal production and market gardening are still artisanal and traditional. These surveys show that 11 tree species have been identified as valued species on the farm for charcoal production. From the evaluation of the productivity of the factors of production, it appears that experience, the area sown and the volume of grinding wheel are important factors in vegetable production and coal mining which influence the level of yield at 75 % (volume of millstone) and 25% (area sown).Conclusion. Market gardening and coal mining capital activities that contribute to household income in urban and peri-urban areas of the city of Lubumbashi. In the face of difficult economic conditions, the adverse effects of urbanization and population growth, market gardening and coal mining are strategic activities to cope with food insecurity, unemployment and poverty.

ALe travail réalisé dans le cadre de cette thèse en co-tutelle est à cheval entre deux domaines d’étude de l’interférence de sillage d’obstacle non profilé (soit un cylindre ou deux cylindres en tandem) et celle des zones de recirculations dans un sluice artisanal (un appareil de tri d’or). Notre étude contribue à l’étude des écoulements à surface libre par combinaison de quelques méthodes expérimentales. Nous avons couplé quelques techniques entre autres la visualisation de la topologie du sillage proche par la caméra CCD embarquée, les mesures des champs de vitesse par PIV et des efforts hydrodynamiques. Ainsi, le cylindre animé d’un mouvement uniformément accéléré/décéléré est caractérisé par les forces de traînée et de portance, les enveloppes des maximas, la longueur de le zone de recirculation et le nombre de Strouhal local. Dont ce dernier a une valeur avoisinant de 0.4 près de la surface libre. Et entre deux pics de la portance, le déferlement de la vague d’accompagnement est observable. L’interférence entre deux structures est simulée à travers deux cylindres et que sur une configuration symétrique, le paramètre de proximité B a tendance à accroître la longueur de la zone de recirculation. Les méthodes et dispositifs expérimentales décrites ci-dessus sont appliqués dans le cas d’écoulement hydrodynamique turbulent au sein du sluice. Les essais sur sites aurifères à Madagascar ont permis la collecte des informations sur les paramètres optimums du tri. Ces paramètres sont pris comme base initiale des travaux de laboratoire entamés sur une maquette à l’échelle 1. L’acquisition par PIV suivi des traitements statistique à multi-variables POD Snapshot nous a permis de créer un modèle expérimental de l’écoulement composé de 4 zones distinctes. L’étude expérimentale a été complétée par une simulation numérique par ANSYS14.5 ; qui nous a permis de conclure que l’approchement des riffles entraîne une diminution de la zone favorable du dépôt des minerais lourds
Two major areas are focused in the thesis. The first investigates the interference due to a wake-pattern of non-profiled obstacles (such as one or two cylinder in tandem). The second characterizes the zone of recirculation inside an artisanal sluice-boxe, which is a device for gold extraction. The work contributes to the study of the flow of a free-surface using experimental methods. Also, a few approaches is combined for the investigation. In this regard, the near-wake pattern of the flow is examined using an embedded CCD camera, correlated to a PIV measurement of the velocity fields and the hydrodynamic forces. We found that a cylinder of uniform motion, accelerated or decelerated, is characterized by: the drag and the lift forces, the envelopes of maxima, the length of the recirculation zone and the local Strouhal number. The Strouhal number approaches the value of 0.4 next to a free-surface and a breaking wave is observed in-between two peaks of the lift force. We modeled the interference between two structures using a succession of two cylinders. The proximity parameter B tends to an increase of the recirculation length for a symmetrical arrangement.Our methods and the experimental procedures are applied for the examination of a turbulent hydrodynamic flow inside a sluice. Tests were performed on gold sites in Madagascar. This permitted the collection of information concerning the optimum parameters for an extraction. The obtained values form the basis of our laboratory work and are applied to a scaled model for validation. An experimental flow model, made of four distinct zones, is derived from a monitored PIV data and a statistical analysis of a multi-variable POD snapshot. The results are validated through simulations using the package ANSYS 14.5. The investigation shows that a closer riffles reduces the region for heavy minerals deposition

Le travail réalisé dans le cadre de cette thèse en co-tutelle concerne deux domaines d’étude de l'interaction fluide-structure. Le premier relevant du Génie Minier traite de l'interaction entre une grille mobile au sein d'un sluice et de l'écoulement confiné associé. Le second relevant de l'Hydrodynamique fondamentale porte sur l'interaction d'un cylindre monté sur appuis souples et un écoulement à surface libre en présence de fond. Notre travail contribue à l’étude des écoulements confinés à surface libre par une approche expérimentale. Nous avons couplé des techniques de visualisation par caméra CCD, de mesures de champs de vitesse par PIV et d'efforts hydrodynamiques pour qualifier la dynamique des objets en mouvement dans l'écoulement. Les méthodes et dispositifs expérimentaux sont alors appliqués à l'étude de l'écoulement autour de deux maquettes simplifiées d'un JIG à grille mobile puis à celui du cylindre vibrant sous l'effet de l'écoulement. L’acquisition par PIV suivi des traitements statistique multi-variables par POD nous a permis d'étudier l'évolution des zones de recirculation dans le compartiment ainsi que le champ de vitesse instationnaire. L’étude expérimentale a été complétée par une simulation numérique par ANSYS14.5 pour la maquette de JIG et par un modèle numérique d’oscillation du sillage pour le cylindre. Ces travaux nous ont permis de mettre en évidence une technique simple pour mettre en mouvement, dans un sluice, un filet attaché à un cylindre et d'étudier les effets du confinement sur un cylindre vibrant en présence de surface libre
The work realized under this co-supervised thesis concerns two study areas of fluid-structure interaction. The first concerned the Mineral Engineering and deals with the interaction between a moving grate in a sluice and the confined flow associated. The second concerns the fundamental Hydrodynamics and deals with the interaction of a cylinder mounted on flexible supports and a free surface flow in presence of plane wall. Our work contributes to the study a confined free surface flow by experimental approach. We coupled techniques of CCD camera visualization, velocity fields measurements by PIV and hydrodynamic forces to qualify the dynamics of structure motion in the flow. Experimental methods and devices are applied to the study the flow around two simplified models of a moving JIG grate and then to study a vibrating cylinder due to flow. Treatments of PIV data acquisitions by multivariable statistical POD enabled us to describe evolution of recirculation zones in the compartment and unsteady velocity field. Experimental study was completed by a numerical simulation of Jig model by using ANSYS14.5 and a numerical wake oscillator model for the case of the cylinder. This work highlighted a simple technique to give motion, in a sluice, a attached net to a cylinder and to study effects of free surface flow confinement on a vibrating cylinder

Small business in France (i. E. Craft industry and handicraft) is characterized with a specific identity through its history, legislation and the positions of the small business representative institutions. However, the great diversity of small businesses is shown through statistics, different population categories and lines of products. A typological analysis based on the entrepreneurial behaviour enables a better definition of the craft sector, i. E. Its specific and heterogeneous characters, in order to observe for each group its adaptation capacity. A thorough knowledge of the sector is required to achieve efficient actions in this field. For that purpose, it is necessary to take into account at the same time the functions of the craft products, the sociocultural systems of customers and craftmen and at least the range of activities covered by the craft sector in the lines of products

Cette recherche s’inscrit dans le champ de la sécurité des activités artisanales. Basée sur l’étude de la profession de guide de montagne, système artisanal par excellence, elle vise à mieux comprendre la manière dont la sécurité peut se construire dans ce type de systèmes encore peu analysé. Notre travail consiste d’abord à analyser la manière dont les guides, travailleurs indépendants, régulent en permanence leur prise de risque face aux dangers naturels, tout en tenant les autres dimensions de l’activité (économique, servicielle, sociale, etc.). Puis, il vise à proposer une prévention qui favorise cette régulation naturelle.La thèse soutenue est la suivante : la construction de la sécurité dans un système artisanal passe à la fois par le développement du « savoir agir » et du « pouvoir agir » des professionnels. En se plaçant dans une approche adaptative et systémique de la sécurité, il s’agit de miser sur la responsabilité, l’autonomie et l’autonomisation des professionnels, qui restent les seuls compétents pour décider en situation. L’action ergonomique doit alors favoriser la contribution de tous les niveaux du système (macro, meso, micro) à la construction d’un environnement capacitant permettant aux acteurs et aux collectifs « d’agir en sécurité ».Quatre études empiriques ont été conduites pour défendre cette thèse. Celles-ci sont basées sur des données récoltées lors d’entretiens semi-directifs et d’observations participantes filmées de courses avec des guides de montagne. Chacune de ces études est construite à partir d’une méthode particulière d’analyse de ces données. La première étude porte sur l’analyse de la perception des risques des guides de montagne. Elle permet de caractériser les risques auxquels s’exposent les guides et leurs clients. Elle met notamment en évidence que la course implique la gestion de risques endogènes, qui dépendent de l’activité de la cordée, et de risques exogènes, qui renvoient à la dynamique intrinsèque de l’environnement de travail. La deuxième étude s’intéresse à l’activité de préparation de la course. Elle montre que cette préparation peut être abordée comme une activité de conception visant à se construire un espace de situations acceptables intégrant les risques endogènes et exogènes. La troisième étude porte sur la réalisation de la course en montagne. Basée sur le cadre théorique de la gestion de situations dynamiques, elle s’intéresse à la manière dont les guides se construisent une conscience de la situation, élaborent des plans dans l’action et agissent pour se maintenir dans un espace de situations acceptables. Enfin, la quatrième étude se focalise sur les « arbitrages risqués » observables dans l’activité. Elle vise à mieux comprendre les mécanismes qui peuvent pousser les guides à prendre des risques, à toutes les étapes de la course, mais aussi à l’échelle de la saison ou de la carrière. Cette dernière étude montre que les processus d’arbitrage visent à tenir de façon permanente différents compromis entre toutes les ressources et contraintes des situations. Elle permet de comprendre qu’un des principaux enjeux de sécurité concerne le traitement de ces arbitrages risqués pour éviter un débordement de la prise de risque dans le temps.Nos résultats peuvent donc être résumés de la façon suivante : « Les guides de montagne doivent gérer des risques endogènes et exogènes, afin de se placer dans un espace de situations acceptables et de s’y maintenir de façon dynamique en évitant des débordements dans la prise de risque ». Ces résultats permettent de proposer une explication des accidents à partir de la prise de risque. Ils permettent aussi d’envisager de nouveaux moyens de prévention basés non plus sur la maitrise de l’enchainement des évènements de la course mais sur la gestion des mécanismes pouvant entrainer une accumulation des prises de risques
This research adresses safety issues in craft activities. Drawing on a study of the mountain guide profession, an archetypal craft system, it aims to provide a better understanding of the way in which safety can be constructed in this type of system, which is still relatively unexplored. Our work focuses on analyzing how self-employed guides constantly regulate their risk-taking in the face of natural hazards, while taking into account the other dimensions of their activity (economic, service, social, etc.). The aim is then to propose a prevention strategy that encourages this natural regulation. The thesis assumes that the construction of safety in a craft system calls for the development of both the ‘know-how‘ and the ‘capability' of professionals. By adopting an adaptative, systemic approach to safety, we rely on the responsibility, autonomy and empowerment of professionals, who remain the only ones competent to take decisions in a work situation. Ergonomic action must therefore promote the contribution of all levels of the system (macro, meso, micro) to the construction of an enabling environment that allows actors and collectives to “act safely”.Four empirical studies have been carried out to support this thesis. These are based on data gathered from semi-structured interviews and filmed participant observations of alpine tours with mountain guides. Each of these studies is based on a specific method of data analysis. The first study analyzes the risk perception of mountain guides. It characterizes the risks to which guides and their clients are exposed. It reveals that an alpine tour involves managing both endogenous risks, which depend on the activity of the climbing team, and exogenous risks, which refer to the intrinsic dynamics of the work environment. The second study focuses on the preparation of the alpine tour. It shows that this preparation can be approached as a design activity aimed at constructing a space of acceptable situations integrating endogenous and exogenous risks. The third study focuses on the realization of the alpine tour. Based on the theoretical framework of the management of dynamic situations, it examines how guides construct situation awareness, develop plans in action and act to maintain themselves in a space of acceptable situations. Finally, the fourth study focuses on the “risky trade-offs” that can be observed in the work. It aims better understand the mechanisms that can lead guides to take risks, at all stages of the alpine tour, but also on a season-long or career-long perspective. This latest study shows that trade-off processes aim to permanently hold different compromises between all the resources and constraints of situations. It shows that one of the main safety issues concerns the management of these risky trade-offs, to prevent risk-taking from getting out of control over time.Our results can therefore be summarized as follows: “Mountain guides have to manage endogenous and exogenous risks, in order to place themselves in a space of acceptable situations and maintain themselves there dynamically, while avoiding risk-taking excesses”. These results enable us to propose an explanation for accidents based on risk-taking. They also suggest new ways of preventing accidents, based not on controlling the sequence of events in the alpine tour, but on managing the mechanisms that can lead to an accumulation of risk-taking

The handicraft sector in Morocco represents more than 9% of the nation's GDP and employs 2.3 million people. However, despite their talent and expertise, Morocco's artisans are struggling to reach markets other than local regional or national markets. The main distribution model used so far has been the classic retail distribution model, which does not add value to the artisans' work, with most downstream actors playing the role of the middlemen. Other Ecommerce models such as the marketplace model or the crowdfunding model did not solve all the issues faced by artisans and customers. This paper provides the framework for a new distribution channel for Moroccan artisans to improve the efficiency of the value chain linking them to the American consumer by eliminating all unnecessary steps, overhead, and overall inefficiencies of the current distribution models. We first identify the models that are currently used to bring the artisans' crafts to the end consumer in developed markets: the market place (used by the platform Etsy), the crowdfunding model and the classic retail distribution model involving middlemen. We assessed the benefits of all the models by developing a new framework allowing to score each one of them. We then switched our focus to a hybrid model: a crowdfunding platform where the company partners with the artisans to align the different stakeholders' interests. To the extent of our knowledge, this model has not been used yet. It was found that our methodology could help artisans access international markets more efficiently. We finished by determining the optimal strategy using social media to market this platform and engage more efficiently potential customers. La graphie des signes hiéroglyphiques représentant des travailleurs est analysée, puis confrontée aux sources iconographiques et à la sculpture, pour comprendre la façon dont le système d’écriture interprète la notion de travail et cerner ce que l’élite souhaite voir se pérenniser dans l’imagerie. S’ajoute à ces données graphiques une approche lexicographique des termes liés au travail. Une mise en perspective de nos conclusions, par l’apport de sources historiques et sociologiques variées, contribue enfin à forger une appréciation plus juste de la façon dont l’organisation professionnelle est perçue sous l’Ancien Empire, et dont l’élite lettrée se confronte au contexte professionnel. Notre analyse a tout d’abord permis de définir les procédés utilisés pour transcrire le travailleur dans l’écriture et dans l’ensemble de l’imagerie d’Ancien Empire. Les critères intervenant dans la composition de l’image du travailleur, que ce soit dans son apparence, son rapport à l’action ou sa relation à la technique, sont ainsi définis. La relation du lexique au thème du travail est aussi abordée. L’ensemble des données récoltées sert ensuite à définir la perception du travail à cette époque. Le travail est ainsi considéré comme un acte social, et le travailleur, lié à une collectivité solide, apparaît intégré au cœur d’un système hiérarchique complexe. Le travail est aussi perçu comme un acte de peine, exercé par une population modeste dépendante d’une autorité dirigeante et entièrement investie dans la charge qui lui incombe. Le travail apparaît enfin comme un acte de production, dans lequel l’homme, technicien et producteur, constitue un chaînon essentiel dans le processus de transformation de la matière, et garantit la prospérité du pays et le bien-être de son élite
The written form of hieroglyphic signs which represent workers is studied, and compared with iconographic documents and sculpture, to understand the way in which the writing interprets the notion of work, and the elements that the elite wants to fix in the imagery. A lexicographical approach of work is also done. Historical and sociological documentation is lastly used to obtain a more complete appreciation of the perception of the professional organization in the Old Kingdom. Our analysis has come to define the processes used to transcribe the worker in writing and in whole imagery of the Old Kingdom. The parameters which play a part in the composition of the worker’s image, in his appearance, his relation to action or his connection with technique, are thus defined. The link between lexicography and work is also treated. Whole information is then used to define the ideological perception of work at this time. Work is thus considered like a social act, and the worker, linked to a solid community, appears to be integrated in a complex hierarchic system. Work is also perceived as a hard act, practised by a modest population who is dependent on a ruling authority and who put a lot of effort into carrying out his task. Work finally appears as a productive act, and worker, as technician and producer, constitutes an essential link in the process of transformation of materials, and assures the prosperity of the country and the comfort of the elite

The idea for this project initially came from an article i read about a small company in Stockholm, called “The cycling plumber” In the article, the founder of the company who explained that he was tired of looking for parking and sitting in traffic in his work-van around the tight and congest- ed streets of Stockholm. This sparked an interest from me, what options does the urban-operating handyman have in terms of transportation? Using the design process and thorough user studies, this project explores a new type of commercial vehicle segement, intended for carpenters operating in the dense city traffic of the future. The final product proposed, is called VW Artisan. It’s a versatile commercial vehicle utilizing a detachable toolbox system to improve the efficiency and comfort of the user during their daily work.
Idén till detta projekt kom ursprungligen från en artikel som handlade om ett nytt företag i Stockholm, kallat “Cyklande rörmokaren”. I artikeln förklarade grundaren till företaget att han hade tröttnat på att sitta i köer och leta efter parkering runt Stockholms tätt trafikerade gator. Detta väckte ett intresse för mig. Vilka transportalternativ har en hantverkare som huvudsakligen arbetar i större städer? Med hjälp av designprocessen och utförliga användarstudier utforskar detta projektet en ny typ av kommersiellt fordonssegment, avsett för hantverkare i framtidens tätt befolkade städer. Slutresultatet som föreslås i detta projekt kallas för VW Artisan. Ett mångsidigt arbetsfordon med en avtagbar verktygsvagn för att effektivisera och öka komforten i användarens dagliga arbete.

L'intérêt de notre recherche repose sur notre champ d'étude, à savoir l'artisanat. Il a suscité jusqu'à présent assez peu de travaux en sciences de gestion, ce qui semble renforcer l'intérêt d'une réflexion spécifique à ce sujet, d'autant que l'essentiel de ces recherches est dispersé dans différents champs : pme, tpe, entrepreneuriat et entreprise familiale. Nous nous sommes positionnés dans une approche systémique pour représenter la spécificité de l'entreprise artisanale et des acteurs qui la composent, basée sur son système de gestion et la prépondérance du couple. Ainsi, dire que les petites entreprises artisanales sont souvent familiales revient à constater que les deux époux participent conjointement au développement de l'entreprise. En réalité, cette cogestion est rarement officielle et provoque un certain nombre de prise de risque pour le conjoint comme le financement de l'entreprise. De plus, en l'absence de dispositions particulières, le conjoint est considéré comme " sans profession ", et son travail, assimilé à une simple entraide familiale, ne lui donne que peu de droits sur l'entreprise et aucune protection sociale personnelle, malgré la création de statuts juridiques spéciaux. Nous avons retenu une méthodologie qualitative, fondée sur l'analyse de contenu thématique d'une étude de cas en profondeur, des récits de vie et des rapports de synthèse de conjoints collaborateurs de chef d'entreprise artisanale. Cette recherche nous a permis de mettre en évidence le rôle stratégique du conjoint dans le système de gestion et la direction bicéphale de l'entreprise dans l'artisanat traditionnel.

Cependant, la notion d'autonomie reste mal conceptaullisée en sciences de gestion. C'est pouquoi nous nous tournons vers diverses sciences pour lesquelles l'autonomie est une notion centrale depuis longtemps : la biologie, la physiologie, la génétique, l'éthologie, les sciences cognitives, la psychologie, la psychiatrie, la sociologie, la cybernétique et la science des systèmes, afin de dégager le sens profond de cette notion, d'ne préciser les contours et d'en proposer une définition. Ensuite, à partir d'une recherche-observation réalisée dans une entreprise du second oeuvre du bâtiment, nous mettons en évidence les implications potentielles, organisationnelles et humaines, de la mise en oeuvre d'une stratégie d'autonomisation-mise en réseau des acteurs dans l'entreprise. In the last few years, many researchers have highlighted the economic and cultural impact that crafts have on the development of territories, enhancing local identities and traditions. Various researches also point to the close relationship between trade (sometimes called ‘neighbourhood’ trade), crafts and historic centres, in terms of quality of life, and socio-economic and identity development of territories, showing their new centrality to processes of urban development and regeneration and the formation of social capital. It is evident how enterprise contributes to local development through social interactions based on negotiated and open collaborations between microenterprises, community and network. It was well argued how small business (commerce, crafts and neighbourhood stores) has always played an important role as a social garrison in sparsely populated areas, allowing cities and particularly urban centres to become more lively or livable, being able to give or take away quality from the city and the territory, attributing peculiarity, security and specificity to places or trivialising them in a homogenised landscape. Among the services of social utility recognised to the artisan workshop are: the guarantee of services useful to the livability of the place, the garrisoning of territories and the development of social relations, the promotion of local identity and its know-how, and the creation of employment opportunities through modest initial availability of capital. At the same time, the worsening recessionary dynamics that have occurred in the global economy over the past two decades and the disruptive digital transition have exposed such enterprises to increasing difficulties, disruptively accentuating the decline in competitiveness and propensity to innovate of a large proportion of craft SMEs, of which the socioeconomic literature does not see significant adaptations to the changed environment, such as reconfiguring the business model, adopting a totally new strategic plan adapting to the digital transition, generational transition, and adopting innovative organisational or system behaviours. This volume presents the Venice Original E-Commerce case – a project carried out by the Venice Metropolitan CNA thanks to the support of J.P. Morgan, the support of the Venice Rovigo Chamber of Commerce and the sponsorship of the City of Venice and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – as a reference project intervention to focus on a possible model of intervention to support culturally-valued artisan micro-enterprises, intervening on the process of strategic renewal and the conditions to foster generational turnover, understood as an opportunity to fill the gap on the digitisation of the artisan sector.

During celebrating the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022), we celebrate the International Symposium on Artisanal and Recreational Fishing in Islands Systems: Assessment, Vulnerabilities and Management (ISARFIS) where we aim to discuss the importance of the sustainable use of marine resources in island systems and the role of artisanal and recreational fisheries to develop conservation strategies in order to protect islands marine ecosystem services.

The Abruzzo region, in Italy, has a strong artisan tradition. Among the many artisan sectors is also the textile artisan, present in many towns in the area, which uses sheep's wool as a raw material. However, artisan workshops (goldsmiths, ceramists, leather workers, embroiderers, etc.) tend to disappear due to insufficient generational turnover, as young people are interested in more innovative activities. This also results in the loss of cultural identity and the abandonment of internal territories, with serious damage to local socio-economic systems. Furthermore, some artisan productions are unsustainable from an environmental point of view, especially assuming an extension of production to optimize economies of scale. Wool mills, for example, in their textile production, produce large quantities of waste in terms of wool dust and threads, "waste" that cannot be easily recycled.Innovating in the artisan sectors, even the most traditional ones, through the use of digital technologies and 3D printing, could represent an excellent incentive to bring young people closer to ancient professions, thus encouraging a generational change and the creation of new job opportunities. The digitalization of some productions, moreover, associated with the recovery of some waste materials, would also positively interpret some of the UN 2030 objectives.This paper reports the results of a research aimed at reusing production waste from wool fabrics and filaments to generate a new, ecological and circular composite material. The new material involves the use of a bioplastic matrix, PLA (polylactic acid), loaded with wool filaments, to obtain a fiber-reinforced biocomposite printable with 3D digital printing technologies. This new material, based on the use of a typically local material, can be used to create artisanal products that recall some traditional Abruzzo productions, effectively complementing more conventional craftsmanship.

Short path distillation and thin film evaporation are generally associated with processing of heat-sensitive oils that require short residence times, high heat and mass transfer coefficients and shorter contact times. Thin film evaporation and short path distillation processes that normally operate at lower temperatures and higher vacuums are commonly used in the processing heat-sensitive oils like omega 3 oils and concentration of omega 3 ethyl esters. These technologies are now also being considered for the removal of processing and environmental contaminants from oils like palm, soybean and other marine oils.Artisan's thin evaporation and the new short path stripping (SPS) technology, with internal multistage-condensing capabilities, take advantage of both principles, namely short path distillation and thin film evaporation. Artisan-SPS system, with no internal moving parts and higher processing capacity, offers several advantages over commercial molecular distillation and deodorizer systems including applications in the removal of contaminants, physical refining and recovery and concentration of omega 3 ethyl esters.This presentation will include results on applications of the new thin evaporation and short path evaporation Artisan systems for the removal of environmental and processing-generated contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs), dioxins, furans, 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD), glycidyl esters (GE) from oils such as palm, soybean and marine fats. The oils were also analyzed for free fatty acids, mono and diglycerides, peroxide value, anisidine value, color and flavor. The resulting oils met commercial quality specifications for refined edible oils, with the added advantage of reducing free fatty acids from 3.87 % (for palm oil) to < 0.1 % and removal of over 90 percent of mono and diglycerides, confirming the additional application of Artisan's SPS as a physical refining system and fractionation and recovery of mono and diglycerides. Regulatory specs for PCBs, dioxins and furans, MCPDs, GEs for edible oils were also successfully met.

One of the problems of creating processes for local communities is how to organize collective actions for artisanal production, commonly carried out to generate income in these contexts. To resolve this issue, tools are sought to improve systems. For this, this article has the question “how can Design act on the organization of local productions, to achieve Sustainability?”. Thus, it brings the identification of contributions of Strategic Design to the stimulation of communities acting in collectives to generate income, related to sustainable development. The selected method was the narrative bibliographic review, combined with databases used by graduate programs in Design. As a result, recommendations were found for collective practices, to achieve the Social Dimension of Sustainability, discussing planning, which unites the vernacular knowledge of artisanal production with the systemic organization of Design.

Across Ghana, mixed-crop-livestock enterprises dominate the farming systems with most farmers producing both food staples and non-food cash crops. However, this paper focuses mainly on oil palm-producing farmers because oil palm is Ghana’s second most important industrial crop (aside from cocoa). However, it has a more extensive local value chain that allows for artisanal processing and thus, has huge potential for rural employment generation and poverty reduction. Oil palm is also one of the priority crops under Ghana’s Food and Agriculture Sector Development Policy. This paper reviews the livelihood outcomes with regards to agricultural commercialisation and how this particularly relates to women’s empowerment and rural employment in the oil palm sector in Ghana.

This rapid review provides a summary of the evidence on the taxation and public financial management of mining revenues in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This is a very complex topic, with a large and growing literature base, a huge interest by donors, non-governmental organisations and businesses, with some conflicting information at times. In particular, specific data on provincial budgets and spending was not identified during this review. No specific information on public financial management in either of these provinces was identified during the course of this review. Given the burgeoning size of the literature base and the complexity of the mining sector in the DRC, this rapid review only provides a snapshot of the literature. It draws on academic, grey and donor literature sources. Some papers for further reading are highlighted. The report first provides a brief background discussion of general taxation in the DRC, the decentralisation process, and provincial public revenue management. The next section provides general information on the mining sector in the DRC, including the regulatory system and official duties, royalties and tax provisions. Section 4 goes into more detail about taxation and rent-seeking in the mining sector, touching on both large-scale mining (LSM) and artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). The next section looks at smuggling of minerals in the DRC, with a focus on gold. Finally, some specific lessons learned were drawn from two World Bank projects and highlighted in the final section. Lessons and experiences from other mining-related projects are also highlighted throughout the report. Literature in French was not included in this rapid review, which may mean that some key documents were omitted.
