Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing worldwide, and it is associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). For T2DM patients, the main surgical intervention for CAD is autologous saphenous vein grafting. However, T2DM patients have increased risk of saphenous vein graft failure (SVGF). While the mechanisms underlying increased risk of vascular disease in T2DM are not fully understood, hyperglycaemia, insulin resistance, and hyperinsulinaemia have been shown to contribute to microvascular damage, whereas clinical trials have reported limited effects of intensive glycaemic control in the management of macrovascular complications. This suggests that factors other than glucose exposure may be responsible for the macrovascular complications observed in T2DM. SVGF is characterised by neointimal hyperplasia (NIH) arising from endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction and uncontrolled migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs). This is driven in part by proinflammatory cytokines released from the activated ECs and SMCs, particularly interleukin 6 (IL-6). IL-6 stimulation of the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT) pathway is a key mechanism through which EC inflammation, SMC migration, and proliferation are controlled and whose activation might therefore be enhanced in patients with T2DM. In this review, we investigate how proinflammatory cytokines, particularly IL-6, contribute to vascular damage resulting in SVGF and how suppression of proinflammatory cytokine responses via targeting the JAK/STAT pathway could be exploited as a potential therapeutic strategy. These include the targeting of suppressor of cytokine signalling (SOCS3), which appears to play a key role in suppressing unwanted vascular inflammation, SMC migration, and proliferation.

Background Previous studies proposed that inflammation, oxidative stress, and impaired endothelial dysfunction have a crucial role in occurrence of saphenous vein graft (SVG) disease (SVGD). The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (MHR) and serum albumin (SA) level as readily available inflammatory and oxidative stress markers with the presence of SVGD in patients with a coronary bypass. Methods In this retrospective cross-sectional study, a total of 257 patients (n = 112 SVGD [+] [mean age was 65.3 ± 8.4 years, 75.0% males] and n = 145 SVGD [−] [mean age was 66.5 ± 10.1 years, 74.5% males]) were enrolled. At least one SVG with ≥ 50% stenosis was defined as SVGD. Independent predictors of SVGD were determined by logistic regression analysis. Results White blood cell, neutrophil, monocyte, the age of SVG, and MHR were significantly higher, whereas SA level was significantly lower in patients with SVGD. In regression analysis, neutrophil, age of SVG, SA (odds ratio [OR]: 0.232 [0.156–0.370], p < 0.001), and MHR (OR: 1.122 [1.072–1.174], p < 0.001) remained as independent predictors of SVGD. Moreover, age of SVG showed a significant negative correlation with SA (r = − 0.343, p < 0.001) and a positive correlation with MHR (r = 0.238, p < 0.001). In the receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, the cutoff value of ≤ 3.75 g/dL for SA has a 73.2% sensitivity and 64.8% specificity and the cutoff value of ≥ 12.1 for MHR has a 71.4% sensitivity and 60.0% specificity for prediction of SVGD. Conclusion Consequently, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study showing a significant and independent association between SA and MHR with SVGD.

Sport video games (SVGs) are a highly consumed media source among 18- to 34-yr-old sport consumers. Many corporations have become advertisers or sponsors of SVGs to reach this consumer segment. This case study examined the systematic relationships among SVG motives, consumption levels, and sponsorship effectiveness. Research participants (N = 213) were SVG gamers who responded to a survey. The proposed hierarchical relationships were tested in a structural model analysis to determine the effectiveness of SVGs. The fit indices showed that the model fit the data well, indicating that, sequentially, SVG motivations influenced game play frequency, awareness of sponsoring brands in SVGs, attitude toward the sponsoring brands, and future purchase intentions of sponsoring products. Researchers and practitioners may consider applying SVG motivational factors to enhance SVG play frequency so as to enhance the awareness of and attitude toward sponsoring brands, which would in turn promote behavioral intentions for consuming the sponsoring brands.

Atherosclerosis plays an important role in saphenous vein graft disease (SVGD). Previous studies showed that inflammatory blood cells play an active role in this process. C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) is considered as a novel predictor for cardiovascular risk and an indicator of inflammation. We aimed to assess the relationship between SVGD and CAR. A total of 711 participants with saphenous vein graft (SVG) were included; 348 patients had SVGD and 363 patients had patent (no stenosis) SVG. C-reactive protein to albumin ratio was higher in patients with SVGD ( P < .001). There was a significant positive correlation between CAR and the age of SVG (r = 0.123; P = .001) and SYNTAX score (r = 0.568; P < .001). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that lymphocyte count, CAR, and SYNTAX score were independent predictors of SVGD ( P < .05). C-reactive protein to albumin ratio may be a useful marker after bypass surgery to predict SVGD.

Objective We sought to delineate the predictor of saphenous vein graft (SVG) failure and to evaluate the impact of sequential grafting of SVG on graft flow as the significant predictor of patency. Methods Angiograms and clinical records of 439 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting with aortocoronary SVG were reviewed. Of these, 708 distal anastomoses were created by 480 SVGs. Of 349 patients who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting, operation was performed with an off-pump technique in 347 patients (99%). For 90 patients, a combined procedure on cardiopulmonary bypass was performed. A postoperative angiography was performed in 230 SVGs for clinical reasons. Insufficient flow (IF) was defined as a graft flow of 20 mL/min or less, measured by transit-time Doppler flowmetry during operation. Results In 480 SVGs, 44 (9.2%) presented IF, and 24 SVGs presented partial or total occlusion. Six of the nine failed individual SVG had IF, whereas none of the failed sequential SVG was associated with IF. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses demonstrated that IF ( P = 0.002; odds ratio, 6.63) and sequential grafting ( P = 0.004; odds ratio, 2.51) were significantly correlated with a failure of the SVG. The patency rate of sequential SVG to the most distal target was 78/93 (83.9%), which was significantly lower than 9/139 (93.5%) of the individual SVG ( P = 0.02) and 7/113 (93.8%) of the sequential SVG to proximal targets ( P = 0.02). Conclusions When both targets seem to have sufficient demand, avoidance of sequential grafting would be reasonable. Moreover, the important target should be grafted by individual grafting or sequential proximal anastomosis.

Background: Approximately 15% of saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) occlude during the first year after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) despite aspirin use. The POPular CABG trial (The Effect of Ticagrelor on Saphenous Vein Graft Patency in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery) investigated whether ticagrelor added to standard aspirin improves SVG patency at 1 year after CABG. Methods: In this investigator-initiated, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial, patients with ≥1 SVGs were randomly assigned (1:1) after CABG to ticagrelor or placebo added to standard aspirin (80 mg or 100 mg). The primary outcome was SVG occlusion at 1 year, assessed with coronary computed tomography angiography, in all patients that had primary outcome imaging available. A generalized estimating equation model was used to perform the primary analysis per SVG. The secondary outcome was 1-year SVG failure, which was a composite of SVG occlusion, SVG revascularization, myocardial infarction in myocardial territory supplied by a SVG, or sudden death. Results: Among 499 randomly assigned patients, the mean age was 67.9±8.3 years, 87.1% were male, the indication for CABG was acute coronary syndrome in 31.3%, and 95.2% of procedures used cardiopulmonary bypass. Primary outcome imaging was available in 220 patients in the ticagrelor group and 223 patients in the placebo group. The SVG occlusion rate in the ticagrelor group was 10.5% (51 of 484 SVGs) versus 9.1% in the placebo group (43 of 470 SVGs), odds ratio, 1.29 [95% CI, 0.73–2.30]; P =0.38. SVG failure occurred in 35 (14.2%) patients in the ticagrelor group versus 29 (11.6%) patients in the placebo group (odds ratio, 1.22 [95% CI, 0.72–2.05]). Conclusions: In this randomized, placebo-controlled trial, the addition of ticagrelor to standard aspirin did not reduce SVG occlusion at 1 year after CABG. Sport video games (SVGs) are a popular form of sport media and sponsorship, and advertising in SVGs is increasingly common. This study assessed the effectiveness of SVG in-game advertisements in 3 consumption domains: cognitive, affective, and conative. An experimental study was designed with 89 gamers randomly assigned to 1 of 2 conditions: (a) experimental, playing an SVG with advertisements, or (b) control, playing an SVG without advertisements. Consumption background and identification level were incorporated as covariates to ensure group equivalence. Participants responded to a questionnaire measuring brand awareness, brand attitude, and purchase intentions. MANCOVA revealed that after controlling for the effect of covariate variables, the experimental group had a significantly (p < .05) greater mean brand-awareness score than the control group. Mean brand-attitude and purchase-intention scores were not significantly (p > .05) different between groups. The findings indicated that SVG in-game advertising was effective in creating awareness.

The authorial methodology of using a vector graphics editor Inkscape and a new online service SVGm (Scalable Vector Graphics measurer, https://svgm.cf) is proposed to measure the linear parameters of the objects in the images and to prepare the quantitative characteristics of objects and their different qualitative characteristics for the subsequent statistical analysis. An algorithm for working with Inkscape editor and SVGm online service is described in detail. Object images imported into Inkscape editor are measured using vector elements (lines, rectangles, circles, ellipses, polygons) and saved in the standard SVG format. Properties of vector figures of SVG files are converted by the online service SVGm in the measurement results shown in the table. The potential of the method is shown by the example of morphological measurements of various botanical objects.

Despite advances in both medical and surgical therapies, individuals with single ventricle heart disease (SV) remain at high risk for the development of heart failure (HF). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying remodeling and eventual HF in patients with SV are poorly characterized. Cardiolipin (CL), an inner mitochondrial membrane phospholipid, is critical for proper mitochondrial function, and abnormalities in CL content and composition are known in various cardiovascular disease etiologies. The purpose of this study was to investigate myocardial CL content and composition in failing and nonfailing single right ventricle (RV) samples compared with normal control RV samples, to assess mRNA expression of CL biosynthetic and remodeling enzymes, and to quantitate relative mitochondrial copy number. A cross-sectional analysis of RV myocardial tissue from 22 failing SV (SVHF), 9 nonfailing SV (SVNF), and 10 biventricular control samples (BVNF) was performed. Expression of enzymes involved in CL biosynthesis and remodeling were analyzed using RT-qPCR and relative mitochondrial DNA copy number determined by qPCR. Normal phase high-pressure liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization mass spectrometry was used to quantitate total and specific CL species. While mitochondrial copy number was not significantly different between groups, total CL content was significantly lower in SVHF myocardium compared with BVNF controls. Despite having lower total CL content however, the relative percentage of the major tetralinoleoyl CL species is preserved in SVHF samples relative to BVNF controls. Correspondingly, expression of enzymes involved in CL biosynthesis and remodeling were upregulated in SVHF samples when compared with both SVNF samples and BVNF controls. NEW & NOTEWORTHY The mechanisms underlying heart failure in the single ventricle (SV) congenital heart disease population are largely unknown. In this study we identify alterations in cardiac cardiolipin metabolism, composition, and content in children with SV heart disease. These findings suggest that cardiolipin could be a novel therapeutic target in this unique population of patients.

Saphenous vein grafts disease (SVGD) is a common complication after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and usually treated by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In this prospective cohort study, we performed virtual histology-intravascular ultrasound to investigate whether plaque composition and morphological characteristics were associated with post-PCI major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) and slow/no-reflow in patients with SVGD. Patients (n = 90) were studied (76.7% men, mean age 64.9 ± 8.2 years and mean duration of SVG 8.0 ± 3.6 years). There were 77.8% lesions with a plaque burden of at least 70%; 18 MACE incidences accumulated in 14 patients over 12 months post-PCI and slow/no-reflow was observed in 12 patients. On adjusted multivariate analysis, lesion length (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.05; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01-1.08]); age of CABG (HR = 1.51 [95% CI: 1.11-2.05], and absolute necrotic core (NC) area (HR = 8.04 [95% CI: 1.86-34.73]) were independently associated with MACEs. Factors independently associated with slow/no-reflow post-PCI were preprocedure systolic blood pressure (odds ratio [OR] = 0.98; 95% CI: 0.96-0.99) and absolute NC area (OR = 2.47 (95% CI: 1.14-5.36). A cutoff value of absolute NC area at ≥1.1 mm2 may serve as a significant risk predictor for no-reflow after SVG-PCI. Factors associated with MACEs and the slow/no-reflow phenomenon following PCI of the SVG can be used in risk assessment of SVG.

Due to the rapid developments in the field of computer graphics and computer hardware, web-based applications are becoming more and more powerful, and the performance distance between web-based applications and desktop applications is increasingly closer. The Internet and the WWW have been widely used for delivering, processing, and publishing 3D data. There is increasingly demand for more and easier access to 3D content on the web. The better the browser experience, the more potential revenue that web-based content can generate for providers and others. The main focus of this thesis is on the design, develop and implementation of a new 3D generic modelling method based on Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) for web-based applications. While the model is initialized using classical 3D graphics, the scene model is extended using SVG. A new algorithm to present 3D graphics with SVG is proposed. This includes the definition of a 3D scene in the framework, integration of 3D objects, cameras, transformations, light models and textures in a 3D scene, and the rendering of 3D objects on the web page, allowing the end-user to interactively manipulate objects on the web page. A new 3D graphics library for 3D geometric transformation and projection in the SVG GL is design and develop. A set of primitives in the SVG GL, including triangle, sphere, cylinder, cone, etc. are designed and developed. A set of complex 3D models in the SVG GL, including extrusion, revolution, Bezier surface, and point clouds are designed and developed. The new Gouraud shading algorithm and new Phong Shading algorithm in the SVG GL are proposed, designed and developed. The algorithms can be used to generate smooth shading and create highlight for 3D models. The new texture mapping algorithms for the SVG GL oriented toward web-based 3D modelling applications are proposed, designed and developed. Texture mapping algorithms for different 3D objects such as triangle, plane, sphere, cylinder, cone, etc. will also be proposed, designed and developed. This constitutes a unique and significant contribution to the disciplines of web-based 3D modelling, as well as to the process of 3D model popularization.

The purpose of this study was to examine and compare how boy football academies in two different regions in Sweden work with talent development. To answer the purpose, the following questions were formed: How are players selected to play in the academy? What are the goals of the clubs’ academies? What environment and resources do the clubs have? The method used was semi-structured interview. Interviews were conducted with sporting directors in seven different academies in two different regions. We found that there are both similarities and major differences among the academies. The academies differ in some manner in almost all the studied areas, but region A produce vastly more elite senior level players than region B. The results could be due to the fact that region A start their academies from a younger age, have better access to competent personnel and have a greater pool of players to choose from but more research is needed to confirm this conclusion.

There are a lot of tools and libraries on the internet that can represent data visually from various database engines, but these tools or libraries are all commercial products and they do not provide a way to customize the source code for your own needs. Add to that, none of these tools and libraries support representing data from AMOSII which is a main memory object-relational database system developed by Uppsala Database Laboratory (UDBL). We thought it will be interesting to have a tool that can display the result of an AMOSQL query graphically (e.g. Chart) that will help the viewer to better understand the result of the query. It will also serve the purpose of aiding the teaching staff in the University to better formulate course assignments for related courses. Our work will certainly aid the faculty members and other students who may be interested in continuing through this project and make it an extensive library which can represent data results from AMOSII queries as other types of charts. Through this project we have developed a java library that can take the result of any AMOSQL query and display the results graphically in six different types of charts(graphs). We have used SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) and X3D (Extensible 3D Graphics) for generating the graphs. SVG is a specification language using XML (Extensible Markup Language) file format for describing two-dimensional vector graphics. The SVG specification is an open standard and the most recent version (1.1) is a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recommendation. It is supported by all the major browsers; that mean the query result can be displayed on any device that has an Internet browser. X3D is the ISO standard XML-based file format for representing 3D computer graphics, it is the successor to the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML). It supports the ability to encode the scene using XML syntax as well as the Open Inventor-like syntax of VRML97, or binary formatting, and enhanced application programming interfaces (APIs). However it requires plug-in for regular browsers to be able to open X3D scene. The X3D has been used to generate the 3D Plot graph function.

Being able to run applications written in a single language on multiple platforms is a strong incentive for migrating applications to the web. This along with the possibility to avoid the sometimes problematic procedure of installing software, makes the case even stronger. This thesis investigates how to migrate a workflow graph editing system into a web technology in order to publish it on the web. We will evaluate a number of different technologies such as WebGL, HTML5 canvas and SVG. SVG is deemed as the preferred technology due to its advantages when it comes to interaction. As it can leverage JavaScripts event system we get a potent way of handling events without writing a single line of code. When combining this with the framework D3JS we achieve a great tool for writing workflow management systems.

The smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) is a relatively new state and parameter estimation technique. Introduced in 2007, it is based on the sliding mode concept, and is formulated in a predictor-corrector fashion. The main advantages of the SVSF, over other estimation methods, are robustness to modeling errors and uncertainties, and its ability to detect system changes. Recent developments have looked at improving the SVSF from its original form. This review paper provides an overview of the SVSF, and summarizes the main advances in its theory.

The electrohydrostatic actuator (EHA) is an efficient type of linear actuator commonly found in aerospace applications. It consists of an external gear pump (fluid), an electric motor, a closed hydraulic circuit, a number of control valves and ports, and a linear actuator. An EHA, built for experimentation, is studied in this paper. Two types of estimation strategies, the popular Kalman filter (KF) and the smooth variable structure filter (SVSF), are applied to the EHA for kinematic state and parameter estimation. The KF strategy yields the statistical optimal solution to linear estimation problems. However, the KF becomes unstable when strict assumptions are violated. The SVSF is an estimation strategy based on sliding mode concepts, which brings an inherent amount of stability to the estimation process. Recent advances in SVSF theory include a time-varying smoothing boundary layer. This method, known as the SVSF-VBL, offers an optimal formulation of the SVSF as well as a method for detecting changes or faults in a system. In addition to the application of the KF and SVSF for state estimation, the SVSF-VBL is applied to the EHA for the purposes of fault detection. The EHA is operated under various operating conditions (normal, friction fault, leakage fault, and so on), and the experimental results are presented and discussed.

The electrohydrostatic actuator (EHA) is an efficient type of actuator commonly used in aerospace applications. It makes use of a closed hydraulic circuit, a number of control valves, an electric motor, and a fluid pump (usually a type of gear pump). The smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) is a relatively new estimation strategy based on sliding mode concepts formulated in a predictor-corrector fashion. The SVSF offers a number of advantages over other traditional estimation methods, including robust and stable estimates, and an additional performance metric. A fixed smoothing boundary layer was implemented in an effort to ensure stable estimates, and is defined based on the amount of uncertainties and noise present in the estimation process. Recent advances in SVSF theory include a time-varying smoothing boundary layer. This method, known as the SVSF-VBL, offers an optimal formulation of the SVSF as well as a method for detecting changes or faults in a system. This paper implements the SVSF-VBL in an effort to detect faults in an EHA. The results are compared with traditional Kalman filter-based methods.

This paper introduces the dynamic 2nd-order Smooth Variable Structure Filter (Dynamic 2nd-order SVSF) method for the purpose of robust state estimation. Thereafter, it presents an application of this method for condition monitoring of an electro-hydrostatic actuator system. The SVSF-type filtering is in general designed based on the sliding mode theory; whereas the sliding mode variable is equal to the innovation (measurement error). In order to formulate the dynamic 2nd-order SVSF, a dynamic sliding mode manifold is defined such that it preserves the first and second order sliding conditions. This causes that the measurement error and its first difference are pushed toward zero until reaching the existence subspace. Hence, this filter benefits from the robustness and chattering suppression properties of the second order sliding mode systems. These help the filter to suppress the undesirable chattering effects without the need for approximation or interpolation that however reduces accuracy and robustness of the SVSF-type filtering. In order to investigate the performance of the dynamic 2nd-order SVSF for state estimation, it applies to an Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator (EHA) system under the normal and uncertain scenarios. Simulation results are then compared with ones obtained by other estimation methods such as the Kalman filter and the 1st-order SVSF method.

Car tracking algorithms are important for a number of applications, including self-driving cars and vehicle safety systems. The probabilistic data association (PDA) algorithm, in conjunction with Kalman Filter (KF), and interacting multiple model (IMM) are well studied, specifically in the aero-tracking applications. This paper studies single targets while performing maneuvers in the presence of clutter, which is a common scenario for road vehicle tracking applications. The relatively new smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) is demonstrated to be robust and stable filtering strategy under the presence of modeling uncertainties. In this paper, SVSF based PDA technique is combined with IMM method. The new method, referred to as IMM-PDA-SVSF is simulated under several possible car motion scenarios. Also, the algorithm is tested on a real experimental data acquired by GPS device.

In the computation of aeroacoustic noise, both the Lighthill analogy and the linearized Euler approaches require the definition of source terms involving instantaneous flow fluctuations, which are generally obtained from either Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) or Large Eddy Simulation (LES). However, these approaches are not economically viable in terms of computational resources, as they require very fine grids to deliver accurate results. Therefore, the Stochastic Velocity Field generation model (SVFG) has has been applied in this paper. The SVFG model is based on the concept of the Stochastic Noise Generation and Radiation (SNGR) without sound propagation and linearized equations. The SVFG model uses time-averaged quantities from the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) to generate a synthetic time dependent turbulent flow field. The turbulent fluctuations are modeled using a stochastic description of the three-dimensional turbulent motion with a discrete set of Fourier modes. This synthetic turbulent field represents many of the characteristics of real turbulence. Nevertheless, it still has some imperfections; although it exhibits the expected correlation length and the required ratio of length scales, it does not predict the convective properties of shear flow turbulence, as the approach generates homogenous and isotropic turbulence. These properties are shown in this paper with the test case of an axial-symmetrical subsonic jet. The SVFG model is used to generate the turbulent flow field, which then is used to compare with actual experiment measurement and other prediction methods. The results of the comparison show strengths and weaknesses of the model. Since the SVFG approach is relatively low cost when compared to both LES and DNS, it offers an attractive alternative to derive the turbulent flow field.

This article discusses the application of the smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) on a target tracking problem. The SVSF is a relatively new predictor-corrector method used for state and parameter estimation. It is a sliding mode estimator, where gain switching is used to ensure that the estimates converge to true state values. An internal model of the system, either linear or nonlinear, is used to predict an a priori state estimate. A corrective term is then applied to calculate the a posteriori state estimate, and the estimation process is repeated iteratively. The results of applying this filter on a target tracking problem demonstrate its stability and robustness. Both of these attributes make using the SVSF advantageous over the well-known Kalman and extended Kalman filters. The performances of these algorithms are quantified in terms of robustness, resilience to poor initial conditions and measurement outliers, tracking accuracy and computational complexity.

In this paper, a robust and stable control strategy is applied to a Festo fluidic muscle actuator, with the objective of trajectory following control. A complete model of this system is not available which leads to unmodeled dynamics and uncertainties. Furthermore, full-state feedback is required for this type of control. However, in practice not all of the states are measurable or available due to cost or availability of instruments, thus a full-state observer is required. The Smooth Variable Structure Filter (SVSF) is a recently introduced robust predictor-corrector method used for state and parameter estimation, and has a form that is able to provide full-state information. In this regard, a new strategy that combines Sliding Mode Control (SMC) with the SVSF is used to control this system. The estimated states from the SVSF are used by the sliding mode controller to obtain a discontinuous control signal. This signal drives the plant to follow a desired state trajectory required by the pneumatic McKibben muscle actuator. Simulation results were generated based on a realistic desired trajectory. The results of the SMC-SVSF control strategy are compared with a tuned PID controller. The described control strategy is able to overcome the nonlinearities present in the system, has a fast response time, and is robust to modeling uncertainties and measurement noise.

Car tracking algorithms have recently found a major role in intelligent automotive applications. They are mainly based on the state estimation techniques to solve the maneuvering car tracking problems. The dynamic 2nd-order SVSF method is a novel robust state estimation method that is based on the variable structure control theory. It benefits from the accuracy, robustness, and chattering suppression properties of second-order sliding mode systems for robust state estimation. The main contribution of this paper is to present and implement a new tracking strategy that is a combination of the dynamic 2nd-order SVSF with the IMM filter. It benefits from the robust performance of the dynamic 2nd-order SVSF and the switching property of the IMM filter. This strategy is simulated and examined under several car driving patterns and experimental position data that are captured by a GPS device. The robustness and efficiency of this strategy is then compared with the Kalman filter-based counterparts.
