Nilsson, Rickard, und Markus Hertzman. „Survey and Evaluation of Diagnostic Tools“. Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Electrical Engineering, 2008. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-15447.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIf a fault occurs in a technical system, for example in an airplane, it is important to beable to detect that there is a fault and to find what in the system that is faulty. Theprocedure of determining, given certain observations, if faults are present and if so thelocation of faults is called a diagnosis. For achieving diagnosis we can use computersoftware that takes observations of a system as input and that generates a diagnosis asoutput. This is called a diagnostic system. To build a diagnostic system we needanother piece of computer software which is called a diagnostic tool. This thesis willpresent a market survey for diagnostic tools as well as an analysis of three of the toolsfound in the survey. The analysis can be seen as constituted by two different aspects, one focusing on the diagnostic methods with which each tool creates diagnosticsystems, the other focusing on practical details that determine the usability of eachtool. The analysis found that the largest differences were between the methods used increating the diagnostic systems.

Companies must weigh the trade-offs of support strategies and choose between the effectiveness of meeting customer expectations and the cost of implementing product support tools and services. These support strategies can be critical to the success of a company and therefore, must provide efficient problem resolution in order to meet the satisfaction of the customer and retailer. This thesis reviews survey data collected from a large agricultural equipment company’s retailers on their satisfaction of product support tools and services provided by the company, and how the retailers utilize these product support tools and services when attempting to resolve a product issue. This evaluation of a company’s product support strategy leads to the identification of potential solutions to help maximize the efficiency of the problem resolution process, as well as minimize the opportunity costs and financial costs of product support sources.

Yoxsimer, Andrew. „A Factor Analysis of the Student School Uniform Survey“. Thesis, University of Nevada, Reno, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3724153.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe primary purpose of this study was to investigate the factor structure of the Student School Uniform Survey, developed by Sanchez, Yoxsimer, and Hill (2012) for the purpose of collecting data on student perceptions of the benefits of wearing a school uniform. A secondary purpose of this study was to investigate relationships among responses based on student membership in the demographic groupings of gender, ethnicity, and grade level. This quantitative study utilized existing, de-identified data that related to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at three middle schools in northern Nevada. The data were collected in each school at the conclusion of the first year of a mandatory school uniform policy. A factor analysis was conducted on 32 of the survey items which revealed 13 of the items contributed to three meaningful factors: Factor 1—Safety and Behavior of Others, Factor 2—Acceptance and My Behavior, and Factor 3—Ease of Going to School. Internal reliability of the survey items was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (a), which indicated the 13 variables that related to each of the identified factors had a high degree of reliability (α > . 70). To check the factors for reliability, a Pearson’s product moment correlation was conducted. In all cases the identified factors had a high degree of reliability. Finally, three multivariate analyses of variance (MANOVA) were conducted to determine if demographic groups identified by gender, ethnicity, and grade level had discrepant response patterns on the three identified factors. Where significance was found, an analysis of variance (ANOVA) was calculated and the factor means were examined to identify which groups responded higher on each factor. The results revealed that seventh grade students responded higher on Factors 1 and 3, Hispanic/Latino respondents responded higher on Factors 2 and 3, and there were no differences in response patterns by gender.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is the most widely used cellular technology in the world. Approximately 800 million people around the world are using GSM for different purposes, but mostly for voice communication and SMS. For GSM, like many other widely used systems, security is crucial. The security involves mechanisms used to protect the different shareholders, like subscribers and service providers. The aspects of security that this report covers are mainly anonymity, authentication and confidentiality.
The important aspects of the system that need protection are described, along with the implementation of mechanisms used for the protection. It appears that many of the very valuable aspects of GSM can be attacked.
The anonymity of a GSM user is compromised resulting in the attacker being able to observe the time, rate, length, sources or destinations of e g calls. Even tracking a subscriber’s movements becomes possible. However, a passive attack is not sufficient to perform these attacks. The attacker needs to mount an active attack using equipment offering base station functionality.
Authentication is a crucial aspect of a wireless communication system due to the nature of the medium used, i e the radio link that is available to every one and not only the legitimate entities. Even the authentication mechanisms are attacked. It is possible to clone a subscription either by having physical access to the smart card or over the air interface. Cloning a subscription over the air requires base station functionality.
The most obvious threat against communication systems is eavesdropping on conversations. The privacy of GSM conversations is protected using some version of the A5 algorithm. There are several impressive cryptanalytical attacks against these algorithms, that break the encryption and make it possible to eavesdrop in real-time. Most of these algorithms require, however, extensive computation power and unrealistic quantities of known plaintext, which make it difficult to use them in practice. Difficulties using cryptanalytical attacks to break the confidentiality of GSM calls does not mean that conversations are well protected. Loopholes in the protocols used in GSM make it possible for an outsider, with access to sufficient equipment, to eavesdrop on conversations in real-time.
In the presence of these threats and vulnerabilities it is justified to wonder whether GSM provides sufficient security for users with very valuable information to communicate. These users may be military organisations, senior management personnel in large companies etc. GSM’s current security model does note provide sufficient protection for these entities. An additional layer of security should be added to the current security model.
Fountain, Harrison Douglas. „Rapid prototyping: a survey and evaluation of methodologies and models“. Thesis, Monterey, California. Naval Postgraduate School, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/10945/30690.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe DoD requirements for software are growing almost as rapidly as the escalating cost of developing the software. The new rapid prototyping paradigm is an innovative approach to software development, which modifies the traditional life cycle model. This thesis features a comprehensive survey and evaluation of the rapid prototyping paradigm. The survey describes the rapid prototyping process, the complex prototyping support system environment required, proposed rapid prototyping methodologies, and published rapid prototyping models. The rapid prototyping methodologies and models are evaluated with respect to their conceptual design. The survey and evaluation of the methodologies and models reveal a progressive paradigm featuring some methodologies and models that can be implemented now and some that are capable of being implemented in the future. Because of DoD's influence on the software industry, we discuss how DoD should usher in the new paradigm, set strategic goals, and further decompose these goals into near-term, and long-term goals.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleResearchers and practitioners have indicated that current teacher evaluation systems do not distinguish differences between teachers. In an attempt to redesign the current system and create a more effective system, legislative mandates required the use of multiple measures in the teacher evaluation systems of states receiving federal money. As a result student perception surveys became one of the multiple measures being considered for use in the teacher evaluation process. In this study, student perception survey results and certified evaluator observation results were analyzed to determine if there was a significant linear relationship between students' and evaluators' perceptions of effective teaching. Central tendencies, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation were calculated using the scores of both variables for each indicator to find the variability within the data sets. Additionally, a Pearson r was used to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between the two variables using six teaching indicators designed through the Network for Educator Effectiveness teacher evaluation program. The Pearson r revealed a significant linear relationship between the two variables for two of the six indicators and a weak to moderate positive relationship for the remaining four. Finally, quartiles of students' and evaluators' scores were calculated and analyzed to further explore potential relationships between the variables. Quartile patterns indicated a potential positive relationship for all six indicators. The results from this study can be used to help local, regional, and state decision-makers better understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various measures commonly used to evaluate teaching personnel.
Magidin, de Kramer Raquel. „Evaluation of Cross-Survey Research Methods for the Estimation of Low-Incidence Populations“. Thesis, Boston College, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2345/bc-ir:107241.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study evaluates the accuracy, precision, and stability of three different methods of cross-survey analysis in order to determine their suitability for estimating the proportions of low-incidence populations. Population parameters of size and demographic distribution are necessary for planning and policy development. The estimation of these parameters for low-incidence populations poses a number of methodological challenges. Cross-survey analysis methodologies offer an alternative to generate useful, low-incidence population estimates not readily available in today's census without conducting targeted, costly surveys to estimate group size directly. The cross-survey methods evaluated in the study are meta-analysis of complex surveys (MACS), pooled design-based cross-survey (PDCS), and Bayesian multilevel regression with post-stratification (BMRP). The accuracy and precision of these methods were assessed by comparing the estimates of the proportion of the adult Jewish population in Canada generated by each method with benchmark estimates. The stability of the estimates, in turn, was determined by cross-validating estimates obtained with data from two random stratified subsamples drawn from a large pool of US surveys. The findings of the study indicate that, under the right conditions, cross-survey methods have the potential to produce very accurate and precise estimates of low-incidence populations. The study did find that the level of accuracy and precision of these estimates varied depending on the cross-survey method used and on the conditions under which the estimates were produced. The estimates obtained with PDCS and BMRP methodologies were more accurate than the ones generated by the MACS approach. The BMRP approach generated the most accurate estimates. The pooled design-based cross-survey method generated relatively accurate estimates across all the scenarios included in the study. The precision of the estimates was found to be related to the number of surveys considered in the analyses. Overall, the findings clearly show that cross-survey analysis methods provide a useful alternative for estimation of low-incidence populations. More research is needed to fully understand the factors that affect the accuracy and precision of estimates generated by these cross-survey methods

Campus mediation programs (CMP's) experienced a rapid growth in higher education institutions from 18 programs in 1990 to more than 200 programs in 1998 (Warters, 2000). During that period, CMP's became a widely accepted approach for addressing conflict within US colleges and universities. However, recent data indicate that there are just over 100 programs which points to a decline and raises questions as to the value of campus mediation programs to higher education institutions. A hindrance to addressing the questions raised has been the limited amount of empirical research and published data on evaluation use within campus mediation programs. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to gather information from US campus mediation program directors regarding their use of program evaluation in order to suggest ways to improve their evaluation efforts. Campus mediation program directors were surveyed on their perceptions of evaluation use in their respective programs. This study was conducted over a period of six months using a web-survey and follow-up telephone interviews. The web-based survey used in this study was adapted from an online campus mediation program survey developed by Rick Olshak and modified. The web-survey consisted of four sections: Demographics, Description of Services, Evaluation and Program Profile. The population consisted of 108 campus mediation program directors in US higher education institutions who were solicited for this study and agreed to participate. Of the 108 directors, there were a total of 59 respondents representing a 55% response rate. There were nine respondents who participated in a follow-up telephone interview. Data analysis for the research questions utilized rank order, frequencies, and averages; supplemental analyses utilized an independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA's and Pearson correlations. Results indicated that evaluation received one of the lowest priority ranking as a program goal, however, most of the directors indicated that they would be very interested in learning different ways of improving their evaluation methods and having a standard evaluation process. The most prevalent concerns and recommendations from the telephone follow-up interviews focused on acquiring buy-in of administration and campus affiliates, improving program surveys, addressing budget cuts and decreasing high staff turnovers.

In spite of the fact that health care professionals understand the benefits of electronic medical records, barriers to the use of EMR are also important for the current impediments in EMR introduction. While the successful applications of EMR systems are evident in western word, the implementation of EMR to a hospital information system is a new topic in Turkey. There are mainly attempts to convert the paper-based medical record systems to the fully automated electronic record systems. Our study is a pioneering attempt to analyze the users&

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleEver increasing complexity of software systems, and distributed and dynamic nature of today’s enterprise level computing have initiated the demand for more self aware, flexible and robust systems, where human beings could delegate much of their work to software agents. The Semantic Web presents new opportunities for enabling, modeling, sharing and reasoning with knowledge available on the web. These opportunities are made possible through the formal representation of knowledge domains with ontologies. Semantic Web is a vision of World Wide Web (WWW) level knowledge representation system where each piece of information is equipped with well defined meaning; enabling software agents to understand and process that information. This, in turn, enables people and software agents to work in a more smooth and collaborative way. In this thesis we have first presented a detailed overview of Semantic web vision by describing its fundamental building blocks which constitutes famous layered architecture of Semantic Web. We have discussed the mile stones Semantic Web vision has achieved so far in the areas of research, education and industry and on the other hand we have presented some of the social, business and technological barriers in the way of this vision to become reality. We have also evaluated that how Semantic vision is effecting some of the current technological and research areas like Web Services, Software Agents, Knowledge Engineering and Grid Computing. In the later part of thesis we have focused on problem of ontology mapping for agents on semantic web. We have precisely defined the problem and categorized it on the basis of syntactic and semantic aspects. Finally we have produced a survey of the current state of the art in ontology mapping research. In the survey we have presented some of the selected ontology mapping systems and described their functionality on the basis of the way they approach the problem, their efficiency, effectiveness and the part of problem space they cover. We consider that the survey of current state of the art in ontology mapping will provide a solid basis for further research in this field.

Hart-Schubert, Patrice. „An evaluation of sensory comfort components of survey questionnaires used for indoor environment problems in buildings“. Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/45051.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe research questions involved in the selection of survey questionnaires are explored by examining sixteen indoor environment survey questionnaires. A meta-evaluation reveals that these questionnaires have three major functions, proactive, reactive, and re-evaluative studies.
Finally, the methods used to analyze survey questionnaires for reliability and validity are examined. An analysis of variance shows that the order in which questions were presented did not affect responses. The reliability of the measures tested ranged from poor to good. Examination of content and face validity by expert and untrained judges demonstrates inconsistencies in common or accepted meanings of the measures considered in evaluating the indoor environment. Analysis of construct validity indicates that not all survey questionnaire variables were categorized under their expected dimensions.
Contrary to advice found in the literature, this thesis suggests that the practice
of combining items from different questionnaires is problematic. Finally, in
buildings with known problems we can expect a relatively high degree of
reliability and validity. However, the utility of such questionnaires in
inventorying and assessing buildings without known problems will prove to be questionable.
