Only a small percentage of crowdfunding projects succeed in securing funds, the fact of which puts the sustainability of crowdfunding platforms at risk. Researchers have examined the influences of phased aspects of communication, drawn from updates and comments, on success of crowdfunding campaigns, but in most cases they have focused on the combined effects of the aspects. This paper investigated campaign success contribution of various combinations of phased communication aspects from updates and comments, the best of which can help creators to successfully manage campaigns by focusing on the important communication aspects. Metaheuristic and machine learning algorithms were used to search and evaluate the best combination of phased communication aspects for predicting success using Kickstarter dataset. The study found that the number of updates in phase one, the polarity of comments in phase two, readability of updates and polarity of comments in phase three, and the polarity of comments in phase five are the most important communication aspects in predicting campaign success. Moreover, the success prediction accuracy with the aspects identified after phasing is more than the baseline model without phasing. Our findings can help crowdfunding actors to focus on the important communication aspects leading to improved likelihood of success.

Purpose – The relationship between overall innovation and innovation capability, and performance has been a topic of several earlier studies. However, the effects of the aspects of innovation capability on performance of a firm have stayed unfamiliar. The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between organizational innovation capability and firm performance. The study contributes to the current understanding by presenting the important aspects of organizational innovation capability that affect firm performance. The effects are studied to both financial and operational performance. Design/methodology/approach – The approach of this study is quantitative. The data used to test the hypotheses were gathered from Finnish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a web-based questionnaire. The sample covered 2,400 SMEs employing 11-249 persons and having a revenue of two to 50 Meuro. The sample was randomly selected. Findings – The findings showed that three aspects of innovation capability, namely ideation and organizing structures, participatory leadership culture, and know-how development, has some effect on different aspects of firm performance. Surprisingly, the aspects of innovation capability were found to be more influential to the financial performance than operational performance. Practical implications – The paper contains suggestions for improving performance through developing innovation capability. The paper aims to support practice in two ways. First, organizations can identify aspects of innovation capability that affect operational and financial performance. In that way, organizations can benefit the results by applying these aspects in their everyday operations. Second, the results of the paper may help professionals to begin to understand that leveraging innovation capability may improve an organization's performance. Originality/value – Previous research has often either concentrated on innovation capability as a one dimension without studying the relationship aspect by aspect or studying only the effects of one aspect of innovation capability. The results of the study take one step further by investigating the relationship of multiple aspects of innovation capability and firm performance.

The purpose of this study was to investigate potential negative outcomes of succeeding under competitive conditions. Highly gifted young adolescents (N = 67) were asked to respond to a scenario in which a student was successful in either a competitive or a non-competitive, individualistic situation. Responses indicated that the subjects perceived greater continuing motivation, attribution of success to effort, and learning for the student in the individualistic scenario. It is concluded that a competitive goal structure may have negative effects even for students who consistently succeed within competition, effects which may be incompatible with important, long-range educational goals.

This study examines the influence of Electronic Word of Mouth (eWOM) on the box office revenue generation of movies in the U.S domestic market using the technique of Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) and aspect identification. The analysis was conducted on the sentiment score and frequency of five movie aspects from the user reviews collected from high grossing 2014 movies. This study revealed a significant dependence on the aspect-based sentiment frequency of the movie's Story aspect. Surprisingly, the data also showed a strong dependence of movie success on the negative sentiment frequency on the Casting aspect. The findings of the study suggest that the eWOM present in online movie reviews can be used to predict the performance of a movie at the box office by monitoring the aspect's frequency of sentiment, which can be referred to as a metric of the online “buzz” of the movie.

AbstractSuccessful management of an information technology (IT) project is the most desirable for all organisations and stakeholders. Many researchers elaborated that risk management is a key part of project management for any project size. Risk management is so critical because it provides project managers with a forward-looking view of both threats and opportunities to improve the project success. The objectives of this research are to explore organisational factors affecting IT project success and risk management practices influencing IT project success. Risk management practices include risk identification, risk analysis, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control. The IT project success is measured by process performance and product performance. Data are collected from 200 project managers, IT managers, and IT analysts in IT firms through questionnaires and analysed using Independent Sample t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression at the statistical significance level of 0.05. The results show that the differences in organisational types affect IT project success in all aspects, while the differences on organisational sizes affect IT project success in the aspect of product performance and total aspects. Risk identification and risk response planning influence the process performance and the total aspects of IT project success. Risk identification has the highest positive influence on product performance, followed closely by risk response, while risk analysis negatively influences product performance.

Ideation, research, and technological innovation are valuable when they lead to wealth creation. Commercialization is a way to tie science to economics and create wealth from innovation. Success in technology development and commercialization requires a combination of several factors, including creative thinking, appropriate technical knowledge, entrepreneurial thinking and spirit, and financial resources. But it is rare for a single person to have all of these characteristics. Therefore, the best way to successfully commercialize technology is to create a team of four different personalities with the above characteristics: These four personalities are inventor/innovator, investor, technology, and entrepreneur. This article examines the definitions and concepts of commercialization and points to social and economic factors in the commercialization process - from ideation to the development of success and growth. Then proposed the formation of an innovation team as one of the strategies for commercialization success and expresses the characteristics of the innovation team and its members and their role in different stages of commercialization. Finally, to achieve more and better achievements in the field of commercialization, suggestions are presented according to the existing conditions.

The terrestrial vegetation in Antarctica is restricted to small, very isolated, ice-free areas on the continent and on the islands adjacent to the Peninsula region. Lichens, a symbiosis between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium, form the most prominent component in the vegetation. They have the greatest number of species compared with other cryptogamic and unicellular organisms. They are able to colonize all types of solid substrata and have a low mineral nutrient demand. Their physiological vigour is derived from high freezing tolerance and the ability to be photosynthetically activated by water vapour uptake from snow at temperatures as low as c. -20°C. Long-term monitoring in their natural habitats demonstrates that lichens are photosynthetically active at suboptimal temperatures. Locally, however, they can benefit from meltwater on insolated rocks, but only for short periods in early summer. Although at this time they may be exposed to substrate temperatures of > 20°C and strong light they do not suffer from photostress. If, in winter, lichens are covered and kept dark by snow with temperatures close to 0°C, lichens enter a negative carbon balance. This effect may be relevant to lichens under conditions of global or regional warming.

Learning management systems (LMS) and their associated
tools have created value for higher education institutions worldwide
by improving content deliverability, accessibility, and retrievability.
Nevertheless, many studies have criticised these systems for their
teacher-centred approaches, which limit opportunities for social and informal
learning. After several decades of institutions using LMS, this research
aims to discuss the success and failure aspects of these LMS from
various perspectives, including structure, content, and support for emerging
technologies. Based on a thematic literature review and analysis, success
and failure aspects are organised and verified by LMS experts.
Alongside the aspects identified from the literature, these experts also
noted several additional aspects of success and failure in LMS. The analysis
results overall indicated the success aspects of LMS relate to seven
key factors: single sign-on, learning management, content management,
integration, security, tracking, and group management. Similarly, the
failure aspects could be classified into eight factors: content creation and
sharing, communicative features, structure, learning engagement, assessment,
user interfaces, social and informal learning, and mobile features.
The implications of the research for education institutions, instructors,
developers, and system providers, as well as the resulting directions for
future research, are thus also discussed to help increasing the chances of
developing additional theoretical and practical insights.

The 30th anniversary of the World Health Organization's (WHO) official certification of smallpox eradication was marked by a slew of events hailing the campaign's dramatic tale of technological and organizational triumph against an ancient scourge. Yet commemorations also serve as moments of critical reflection. This article questions the acclaim showered upon smallpox eradication as the single greatest public health success in history. It examines how and why smallpox eradication and WHO's concurrent social justice-oriented primary health care approach (following from the Declaration of Alma-Ata) became competing paradigms. It synthesizes critiques of eradication's shortcomings and debunks some of the myths surrounding the global eradication campaign as a public health priority and necessity, and as a Cold War victory of cooperation. The article concludes with thoughts on integrating technical and social-political aspects of health within the context of welfare states as the means to achieving widespread and enduring global public health success.

There are many aspects and aspects that can become the standard for the success or failure of an educational process. This aspect is usually present in the teacher as mentor, teacher and also on the side of students. One aspect that can be a barrier to the success of students in absorbing subjects from the teacher is the factor of communication that is not working effectively. Communication is very important considering that the educational process is currently directed into a room filled by teachers and students. In such conditions a two-way communication pattern is required, in order to create optimal interaction in each face-to-face between teachers and students, so that educational goals can be achieved. This paper will discuss the significance of teacher communication and its effect on student interest in learning.

Background: Breastfeeding is a difficult time for a mother. A mother hopes that she can fully breastfeed in the first 6 months of her baby's life. But unfortunately, breastfeeding mothers often face various problems in baby care which result in disruption of breastfeeding such as stress due to not being adapted to being a mother, or due to pressure from the surrounding environment. The role of a partner is very important in helping mothers deal with problems that may arise. Father's support can help mothers, especially in their coping, in dealing with stress that may arise when breastfeeding. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the father's role during the breastfeeding period to achieve the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: This research method used a cross-sectional design which was carried out in Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The study was conducted on 35 married couples who have babies between 6 months to 1 year old. The aspects of the father's support that were assessed were financial, emotional, and physical. Quantitative data were analyzed using an independent t-test, while qualitative data were analyzed using chi-square. Results: The results of statistical analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between financial support (p = 0.372), emotional support (p = 0.166), and physical support (p = 0.227) on the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Although there is a close relationship if the three aspects are given together without reducing one aspect of support (p = 0.009). Conclusion: This shows that the father's support must include all three aspects, both financial, emotional, and physical to determine the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Purpose Recent research has addressed the marketing aspects incorporated in crowdfunding activity, establishing their relevance to campaign success. In line with this, research has begun to explore the behavioral aspects of crowdfunding participants, drawing on the buyer–seller interaction. The purpose of this paper is to expand on this trend by investigating the role of supporter engagement and its link to campaign success. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model was tested using structural equation modeling analysis. Data collection was based on a survey of 116 supporters, combined with outcome data of 530 crowdfunding campaigns. Findings The study’s findings revealed that supporters distinguish between their engagement to the campaign and to the campaign’s creator. However, both aspects of engagement affect community establishment and supporters’ promotion efforts. The authors also found that these indicators of engagement are associated with campaign success. Originality/value Research on crowdfunding supporters have focused to date on criteria contributing to campaigns success, exploring the motivational aspects associated with such activity. The current study expands this perspective by examining supporters’ engagement, differentiating between engaging with the creator and engaging with the campaign. Recommendations for creators include making efforts to establish supporter engagement to facilitate active promotion and shape future support intentions, thus facilitating enhanced outcomes for both current and future campaigns.

The “lifelong learning” competence is considered in the article as an integrated ability of an individual, incorporating knowledge, skills and habits that students acquire during schooling, as well as certain qualities that ensure their readiness for further learning, socialization and personal growth. Success-oriented motivation and success in learning are determined as the essential prerequisites for the “lifelong learning” competence development in high school learners. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the correlation between success-oriented motivation, high school students’ academic self-regulation and their success in learning. The experimental assessment was carried out in two different types of institutions of secondary education (the general secondary school, the lyceum). To carry out the diagnostic assessment of 9th grade students (n = 134, age 13–15 years) the adaptation of the method of motivating students to achieve success, the method of «Academic self-regulation» and the technique of hubristic motivation diagnostic assessment were used. It has been determined that high level indicators of internalization and exteriorization are more evident in lyceum students, confirming their desire for self-development, self-improvement and self-education. The existence of direct correlation between the external regulation of learning activity and the motivation oriented to preventing failure, and between the internal motivation and success-oriented motivation has been proved. The peculiarities of the success-oriented motivation and academic self-regulation of high school students of different types of schools (general secondary school, lyceum) have been specified. The study has confirmed that the motives of the internal success-oriented motivation of high school students have a greater impact on their achievements in learning than the motives of external motivation and are more valuable for “lifelong learning” competence development.

Conceptualisation is “the process of meaning construction to which language contributes. It does so by providing access to rich encyclopaedic knowledge and by prompting for complex processes of conceptual integration” (Evans 2007: 38). Concrete, non-abstract entities are easy to grasp and to conceptualise with the use of the senses. A problem occurs when the mind has to form an idea about abstract concepts that cannot be seen, heard, smelled, or tasted. Linguists (Evans & Green 2006; Gibbs 1999; Kövecses 2010; Lakoff 1986; Lakoff & Johnson 2003) proved that people share a tendency to create conceptual analogies between abstract concepts and concrete entities by mapping the properties of the latter upon the former. It has been proved (Trojszczak 2016, 2017) that people share conceptualisations between languages. The primary goal of this comparative study was to examine the conceptualisation of success in two languages, English and Polish, in order to identify differences and similarities. The results of the study proved that people share the conceptualisation of the analysed target domain in both languages, which means they understand success in the same terms. There is a difference in the intensity, however; some metaphors are more widely used in one language and some in the other. There is also a difference in the linguistic expressions that constitute the conceptualisations.

Elements Influencing Study SuccessStudy success can be influenced by following factors: (i) social elements (social class position, parents' education, parents' profession, parents' income); (ii) student-related factors (motivation, aptitude, effort, IQ, time spend on study, opportunity to learn, pre-university education); (iii) quality of instruction (organisation, course material, communication, assignments, exams, grading, course outcomes); (iv) curriculum (number of courses, sequence of courses, test schedule, system-block or parallel); (v) government (grant, student accommodation). In the paper the influence of these factors on study success is presented. Social and academic integration are central aspects. In the research we found out that "social elements" greatly influence the decision to enrol, but have less influence on marks received and the duration of study. Grants also greatly influence study success. We were surprised when we found out that factors from the "quality of instruction" group can only explain 12.3% of the variance of exam results.

AbstractThe paper seeks to investigate how SUCCESS is conceptualized metaphorically in popular American success books, aphorisms and quotes. The study is based on an analysis of a corpus comprising over 600 utterances in which the lexical entry SUCCESS is regarded as constituting part of a metaphorical expression. The utterances have been extracted from the initial corpus of 10 success guide books, as well as 150 success aphorisms and quotes by famous Americans. The study investigates two aspects of this conceptualization. In the first instance, it examines which metaphorical source domains, as understood within the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory, prove to be most productive in the corpus. Secondly, in line with the frequently expressed views that the significance of conceptual metaphor as an explanatory construct is sometimes overstated in cognitive linguistic research, the paper attempts to analyze examples of linguistic metaphors which appear to be motivated in ways that are, at least in part, independent of well-established conceptual mappings, with particular emphasis on the resemblance-based and image metaphors associated with the predicate nominative forms ‘X is a Y’.

The modern human foot can be viewed as the basic prehensile grasping foot of humans' arboreal ancestors, modified by the need for a propulsive lever to serve bipedal walking. The structure of the human foot serves its function remarkably well. However, in spite of its evolutionary success, the foot remains susceptible to clinical disorders that can be related to its development from nonhuman ancestors. An understanding of the evolution of the foot offers a different perspective on some common human foot disorders, and can provide a framework for planning the treatment of those disorders.

Many students approach the transition to secondary school with feelings of both excitement and apprehension, but it is excitement that usually prevails. For students with Asperger’s Syndrome, however, those aspects of secondary school that most students anticipate with great enthusiasm, such as being in a new and larger environment, having different teachers and increased subject choices, and meeting new people, are sources of great anxiety. Despite the increasing numbers of students being diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (Safran, 2002), many teachers have limited understanding of the condition, or of appropriate strategies for the successful inclusion of students with this diagnosis (Williams, 2001). This paper examines aspects of secondary school that are particularly challenging for students with Asperger’s Syndrome and describes ways in which these issues were addressed by teachers who approached these challenges with flexibility and ingenuity.

This paper reviews four different aspects of greywater reuse, the adoption of which is now beginning to spread in Spain. The main aspect addressed is water quality, but legal requirements, costs and the effect on reducing water needs also require analysis. These aspects are of key importance to understand the current way in which greywater reuse systems are developing and, even more importantly, for setting the conditions for future success. In relation to each aspect, the data obtained in a pilot project in Spain is compared to other foreign references.

Based on a model consisting of (1) indicators related to the entrepreneurial person, (2) resource/environment indicators, and (3) founding process indicators, this paper examines founding success (who ultimately started up a business?) and new venture success/failure (which businesses survived?) in nascent businesses. The study analyzes a sample of 227 nascent entrepreneurs in Austria observed over a period of seven years. We find that characteristics of the person (i.e., risk-taking) affect founding success, but not survival. At the same time, resource and environment aspects did not show an effect on founding success or survival. Finally, we find that aspects of the founding process serve to explain both founding success and survival.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly malignant tumor with a poor prognosis. The success of its established treatment modalities is frequently limited by the advanced stage of the tumor at the time of diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to understand the mechanisms that control its growth behavior. In the present study, we review some aspects of molecular and cellular processes involved in growth control and metastatic potential of HCC. These include some growth factors and their receptors, oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, and factors that control angiogenesis and extracellular matrix formation. These factors may be important targets for novel therapeutic approaches in the future.

As hospital ethics committees (HECs) become more common in American hospitals, their degree of success should be measured. Just as new technological procedures are evaluated, institutional innovations should also be evaluated. Currently, little is known about the success of HECs, and some authors have wondered whether these committees serve any useful purpose at all. This article reviews the descriptive results of a 1990 study on HEC success as they pertain to the question of how to measure committee success.

Owed to their enormous impact on the sustainable development of energy security, climate change, and the economy, multiple renewable-energy projects are carried out around the world, both in developed and in developing countries. Since the construction of renewable energy project is an entrepreneurial activity, there is a big concern about the success of such projects. Although pertinent literature suggests several methodologies to enhance the success of various projects, renewable-energy projects are still overlooked. This study identifies multiple critical success factors (CSFs), required for renewable-energy projects. Using a sample of 272 firms working on renewable energy projects in Pakistan, a quantitative and causal study was undertaken to identify the critical success factors (CSFs). Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to test and verify hypothesis. The results show that there is a strong direct dependency of project success over the proposed factors, however environmental factors are found to be the only predominant CSFs which show the significant indirect effect over project success. The study expected to contribute towards and widen up the existing knowledge base for the project performance of renewable energy projects by adding on the findings regarding critical success factors.
