A strong-weak coupling duality symmetry of the string equations of motion has been suggested in the literature. This symmetry implies that vacua occur in pairs. Since the coupling constant is a dynamical variable in string theory, tunneling solutions between strong and weak coupling vacua may exist. Such solutions would naturally lead to non-perturbative effects with anomalous coupling dependence. A highly simplified example is given.

Following the revision of the three Palaearctic species of the genus Hoplomachus, it appeared that the sole Nearctic species Hoplomachus affiguratus is misplaced in this genus. In addition to a redescription of its external morphology, the male and female genitalia are illustrated for the first time. A generic level analysis of presumedly related Phylinae lead us to erect Delphiphylus n. gen. with its only included species Delphiphylus affiguratus (Uhler, 1895) n. comb.

<p><strong>Purpose:</strong> To determine whether chromium, cadmium, and lead levels in human Fingernails reflected the exposure to workplace contamination in tanneries.</p><p><strong>Approach:</strong> 49 exposed tanning workers and 33 controls were monitored for fingernail levels of chromium, cadmium, and lead by graphite furnace and hydride atomic absorption spectroscopy.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> The mean levels of fingernail chromium, cadmium, and lead in the exposed workers were significantly higher than those in the controls. In regression models for the tannery workers, the significant risk factor that affected the fingernail chromium, Cadmium, and lead level were occupational exposure, respectively. Current smoker it showed a significant change in trend of increased fingernail cadmium levels.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> These findings indicate that chromium, cadmium, and lead absorbed from. Leather tanning compounds result in raised levels of chromium, cadmium, and lead in fingernails and that improvement of the industrial health should be more practiced in the tanneries in Taiwan.</p>

Rhizoglyphus species are commonly found associated with subterranean plant organs, where they may lead to direct or indirect damages. The diversity of this genus in Brazil is poorly known and the most frequently mentioned species in the country is Rhizoglyphus echinopus (Fumouze & Robin). However, this species appears on the A1 quarantine list for Brazil. The objective of the present work was to report the Rhizoglyphus species that have been collected in agricultural environments in Brazil. In this study, five species are reported: R. caladii Manson, R. columbianus Oudemans, R. robini Claparède, R. setosus Manson and R. vicantus Manson. Among these, four are new records for Brazil (R. caladii, R. columbianus, R. setosus and R. vicantus).

Campylopus with nearly 200 revised species is one of the largest genera of mosses in the world and has extremely broad geographical, altitudinal and ecological ranges. Factors to be considered for the rich speciation are 1) the enormous anatomical plasticity of the structure of the costa, 2) the ability for vegetative propagation utilizing different methods, and 3) the special twist mechanism of the cygneous setae. Phytogeographical interpretations of present ranges of species of Campylopus lead to the conclusion that this genus is of Gondwanalandic origin. Most of the species seem to be cool temperate in origin. They have adapted to dry habitats in the Mesozoic and invaded the tropical mountains during the Tertiary, accompanied by rich speciation. This is supported by the physiology of these species. According to preliminary gas exchange measurements, tropical montane species do not differ from temperate species, and are not able to stand climatic conditions of the tropical lowland rainforests; a relatively young habitat for bryophytes. A cladistic analysis of the infrageneric categories of Campylopus using phytogeographical evaluations of apomorphic character states shows that the section Homalocarpus seems to be the most primitive and the subgenera Campylopidulum and Thysanomitrion the most derived.

<strong>Aim:</strong> The objective of this study is to obtain the optimum efficiency of Lead (Pb) removal by adsorption using shrimp shells chitosan. Adsorption is one of the alternative ways to treat heavy metal. Various substances can be used as adsorbents for the adsorption process. One of the natural adsorbents that can be utilized is shrimp shells. <strong>Methodology and Results:</strong> In general, the process of making chitin into chitosan includes demineralization with dilute HCl, deproteinization with dilute NaOH, then deacetylation of chitin using concentrated NaOH. This study would demonstrate the adsorption on artificial waste containing 100 mg/L of Pb using 1 gram of chitosan with variations in pH (4, 5, 6) and time (30, 60, 90 minutes) to determine the effectiveness of chitosan made of shrimp shells in reducing Pb concentration. The results show that the highest removal efficiency of lead was achieved at pH 4 and 90 minutes duration with a removal percentage of 99.88%. <strong>Conclusion, significance, and impact study:</strong> Chitosan compounds as the results of shrimp shells processing have amine groups (NH<sub>2</sub>) which are nucleophiles (rich in electrons). It is favorable to be used as biocoagulants or bioadsorbents of lead heavy metal with a removal efficiency of above 90%.

To test higher order contributions one needs to consider strongly self-gravitating bodies such as neutron-stars.Small-eccentricity binary-star systems consisting of a neutron star (|EG|/mc2~ 0.15) and a white dwarf (|EG|/mc2~ 10−4) are excellent ‘laboratories’ to test the SEP in a strong-field regime. As shown by Damour and Schäfer (1991) a violation of the SEP would lead to a periodic change in the eccentricity of the orbit of the binary pulsar caused by the galactic acceleration. Thus the observation of old small-eccentricity long-orbital-period neutron-star white-dwarf binary systems put (with a certain confidence level) a limit on the violation of the SEP.

Trichoderma speies are known for their diverse applications as potent bio-control organisms. 34 isolates of Trichoderma were obtained from various geographical locations in India and were subjected to phenotypic evaluation. Species identification if based on only morphology, may lead to sometimes erroneous, uncertain or remains unclear due to overlapping characters. Therefore, molecular characterization was also performed based on ITS region sequence analysis for reliable identification using both morphological and molecular characters. The isolates were identified into 20 different species viz., T. aggressivum, T. asperellum, T. atroviride, T. brevicompactum, T. citrinoviride, T. crassum, T. erinaceum, T. ghanense, T. hamatum, T. harzianum, T. koningiopsis, T. longibrachiatum, T. longipile (Syn. Hypocrea longipilosa), T. minutisporum, T. pubscenes, T.reesei, T. saturnisporum, T. spirale, T. tomentosum and T. virens based on the integrated approach of both morphological and molecular characterisation. ß-tub gene sequence analysis was also performed to find out the phylogenetic relationship of these species. The ß-tub gene sequences differentiated all the 20 different species of Trichoderma better than the ITS region sequences. The morphological characters viz., colony, conidiophores, phialides, conidia and chlamydospores of all the twenty species of Trichoderma were described along with photomicrographs. The ITS and β-tub gene sequences of all the 20 species studied have been deposited in the Genbank.

Investigations were conducted in the Department of biophysical ecology of Kovalevsky IMBR of RAS in September - October of 2013 and 2015. The body length of the gathered for experiments ctenophores was 35 – 40 mm. Characteristics of the ctenophores light emission were studied under the mechanical and chemical stimulations, with the usage of laboratory complex “Svet”. The following HM salts: Cu2S04, ZnCl2, PbCl2 and HgCl2 in different concentrations were used in our experiments. The just-caught samples, contained in the clean marine water were used as a control. The exposition time was 1, 3 and 24 hours under the temperature of 21 ± 2°C. The investigations results have shown considerable variability of the ctenophore luminosity characteristics in dependence of metal concentration and exposition duration. It was stated that minimal concentrations of cooper, zinc and mercury stimulates ctenophores bioluminescence and the high ones inhibit. The alien ctenophore luminescence inhibition was registered under the lead activity under all investigated concentrations. We can place investigated metals as following: Zn < Cu < Hg < Pb, according to the force of the toxic influence on the ctenophore bioluminescence. Thus, alien ctenophore bioluminescence parameters can serve as a sensitive express-indicator of the resistance degree to the heavy metals impact and be the expressive index of the marine environment regional pollution.

Riodinidae are one of the most diverse families of Lepidoptera, mainly in the Neotropical region; however, their biology, ethology, taxonomy, systematics, and biogeography are poorly known. In Mexico, the regional and local distributions of the family are still incomplete. We review the distributional data of the genus Lasaia Bates (Lepidoptera: Riodinidae), based on records from four national and seven international collections. We record five species and seven subspecies in Mexico, with 2722 records, distributed in 314 localities of 24 states. The states with higher species richness are Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz; also, the genus was recorded in 11 of the 14 biogeographical provinces of Mexico. The tropical semi-deciduous and deciduous forests, below of 1000 m a.s.l., contain most of the diversity of Lasaia. Historical data are crucial for the study of local and regional diversity and ecological patterns at large temporal scales. Data presented here show the morphological and ecological variation of Lasaia over the last 80 years, mostly from the XX century when anthropogenic disturbances were intensified. This kind of studies is the first step in recording the historical distribution of these taxa, which will lead to more complex analyses on distribution range shifts, their causes and consequences.

Previous studies have calculated the enhanced warming based mainly on the radiative effect of the methane itself, with smaller contributions from the associated carbon dioxide or ozone increases. Here, we study the effect of strongly elevated methane (CH4) levels on oxidant and aerosol particle concentrations using a combination of chemistry-transport and general circulation models. A 10-fold increase in methane concentrations is predicted to significantly decrease hydroxyl radical (OH) concentrations, while moderately increasing ozone (O3). These changes lead to a 70% increase in the atmospheric lifetime of methane, and an 18% decrease in global mean cloud droplet number concentrations (CDNC). The CDNC change causes a radiative forcing that is comparable in magnitude to the longwave radiative forcing ("enhanced greenhouse effect") of the added methane. Together, the indirect CH4-O3 and CH4-OH-aerosol forcings could more than double the warming effect of large methane increases. Our findings may help explain the anomalously large temperature changes associated with historic methane releases.

Heavy rains have become a serious problem for the coastal zone of the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation and the Black Sea coast of Turkey. They lead to a significant increase in water levels in rivers, flooding of villages and even large cities, damage to urban and tourist infrastructure, roads and railways, bridges, beaches, flushing of garbage and sewage into rivers. This leads to environmental problems and even loss of life. River runoff forms river plumes in the coastal zone of the sea, which, depending on wind speed and direction, speed and direction of coastal currents, river runoff and density difference with sea water, can have various forms and spread in different directions from the mouth of the river, as well as participate in mesoscale and sub-mesoscale circulation of coastal waters. River plumes significantly affect the quality of sea water and the sanitary and epidemiological situation on the beaches of the resort area of Krasnodar Territory and Turkey. The situation is aggravated by the fact that sewage systems are in poor condition in cities or are completely absent in most of small villages along rivers and the coastal zone. After heavy rains, wastewater very often reaches the sea and poses a serious threat to human health. The purpose of this study is to use satellite remote sensing to demonstrate the behavior of river plumes along the Black Sea Turkish coast.

We discuss the supersymmetric standard model from the perspective that the up and down Higgs supermultiplets are composite states. We show that a Higgs multiplet in which the scalar states are bound states of two squarks and the corresponding Higgsinos are bound states of a quark and a squark has the correct supersymmetry transformations and may lead to an alternative model which contains additional effective operators and which displays dynamical symmetry breaking. We describe this model through an effective Higgs potential which by itself may lead to the correct mass of 125.9 GeV for the lightest Higgs boson and to other neutral scalar masses respecting the experimental constraints.

<p><strong>Objective: </strong>This study evaluates the potential neuroprotective of the pomegranate juice against chronic intoxication with lead acetate for 3<strong> </strong>months.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Twenty-one female Swiss mice divided into 3 groups were employed in the present investigation. Control group: received drinking water for 90 days, neurotoxic group were exposed to 1000 ppm of lead acetate in the drinking water for 12 weeks, and neurotoxic treated group represents the mice received treatment with juice pomegranate diluted with distilled water (v/v) orally for 4 h / day followed by lead acetate at a dose of 1000 ppm orally for 20 h / day for 90 days. After cessation of treatment, neurobehavioral studies using the open field test, black and white test box and swimming test were made. In the next phase, brain injury was assessed histologically with hematoxylin-eosin staining.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> Chronic exposure to lead led to significant increase in the level of anxiety, depression and the locomotor activity (P &lt; 0.05). It was confirmed by histopathological alterations in many areas of the cerebral cortex and hippocampus including neuronal degeneration and decrease cell density. Treatment with the juice significantly improve the level of depression, locomotor function (P &lt; 005) and anxiety (P &gt; 0.05) in mice exposed to lead as well as restored the histological structure in cerebral cortex and hippocampus of mice. The total phenolic and flavonoids content in juice of pomegranate was found to be 3809. 8±29.404 mg GAE/l; 2109. 57±18.936 mg QE /l of juice.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>This finding suggests that phenolic compounds found in pomegranate juice provide a neuroprotective effect on behavioural impairments and histopathological change induced by lead.</p>

<p><strong>Purpose:</strong> Retail sales growth has been sluggish in the recent decade in North European countries. Number of factors have caused this, like problems in macro-economy, sanctions and the effect of ageing population. Also increasing amount of e-commerce from China has taken its share. Future development paths need to be researched further to identify the outlook of North European retail.</p><p><strong>Methodology/Approach:</strong> Four different imported items were examined, which were hypothetically planned to be brought on Estonian consumer markets from China. We take into account freight costs, custom duties, VAT and profit margin requirement. Also lead time performance is being examined.</p><p><strong>Findings:</strong> Analysis shows that company based imports is not that viable model as profit margin requirement as well as governmental costs (duty and VAT) take lion share from overall costs. Even if profit requirement of company importing the products would decrease, wage inflation in Asia and freight will probably lead to higher product prices. Therefore, e-commerce needs to enlarge to lower cost manufacturing locations and/or use more direct sales to consumers. Total lead time soughts new solutions too (e.g. railway connection to Europe).</p><p><strong>Research Limitation/implication:</strong> Examination is limited to small Estonian market, and their custom tariffs and VAT. Also logistics costs to Northern Europe are higher than to Central Europe.</p><strong>Originality/Value of paper:</strong>Research is one of the first based on the examination of products and overall costs. It adds value through understanding of import cost structures.<p> </p>

The Apple Watch is capable of recording single-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs). To incorporate such devices in routine medical care, the reliability of such devices to obtain precordial leads needs to be validated. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and reliability of a smartwatch (SW) to obtain precordial leads compared to standard ECGs. We included 100 participants (62 male, aged 62.8 ± 13.1 years) with sinus rhythm and recorded a standard 12-lead ECG and the precordial leads with the Apple Watch. The ECGs were quantitively compared. A total of 98 patients were able to record precordial leads without assistance. A strong correlation was observed between the amplitude of the standard and SW-ECGs’ waves, in terms of P waves, QRS-complexes, and T waves (all p-values < 0.01). A significant correlation was observed between the two methods regarding the duration of the ECG waves (all p-values < 0.01). Assessment of polarity showed a significant and a strong concordance between the ECGs’ waves in all six leads (91–100%, all p-values < 0.001). In conclusion, 98% of patients were able to record precordial leads using a SW without assistance. The SW is feasible and reliable for obtaining valid precordial-lead ECG recordings as a validated alternative to a standard ECG.

Arıkan’s exciting discovery of polar codes has provided an altogether new way to efficiently achieve Shannon capacity. Given a (constant-sized) invertible matrix M , a family of polar codes can be associated with this matrix and its ability to approach capacity follows from the polarization of an associated [0, 1]-bounded martingale, namely its convergence in the limit to either 0 or 1 with probability 1. Arıkan showed appropriate polarization of the martingale associated with the matrix ( G 2 = ( 1 1 0 1) to get capacity achieving codes. His analysis was later extended to all matrices M that satisfy an obvious necessary condition for polarization. While Arıkan’s theorem does not guarantee that the codes achieve capacity at small blocklengths (specifically in length, which is a polynomial in ( 1ε ) where (ε) is the difference between the capacity of a channel and the rate of the code), it turns out that a “strong” analysis of the polarization of the underlying martingale would lead to such constructions. Indeed for the martingale associated with ( G 2 ) such a strong polarization was shown in two independent works (Guruswami and Xia (IEEE IT’15) and Hassani et al. (IEEE IT’14)), thereby resolving a major theoretical challenge associated with the efficient attainment of Shannon capacity. In this work we extend the result above to cover martingales associated with all matrices that satisfy the necessary condition for (weak) polarization. In addition to being vastly more general, our proofs of strong polarization are (in our view) also much simpler and modular. Key to our proof is a notion of local polarization that only depends on the evolution of the martingale in a single time step. We show that local polarization always implies strong polarization. We then apply relatively simple reasoning about conditional entropies to prove local polarization in very general settings. Specifically, our result shows strong polarization over all prime fields and leads to efficient capacity-achieving source codes for compressing arbitrary i.i.d. sources, and capacity-achieving channel codes for arbitrary symmetric memoryless channels. We show how to use our analyses to achieve exponentially small error probabilities at lengths inverse polynomial in the gap to capacity. Indeed we show that we can essentially match any error probability while maintaining lengths that are only inverse polynomial in the gap to capacity.
