ABSTRACT INTRODUCTIONSweden is unique in adopting a ‘no-lockdown’ public health approach to the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) outbreak. There were fears that health services would not be able to care for high numbers of COVID-19 patients. AIMTo describe and review the emergency response of a public primary and community health-care organisation in Stockholm, Sweden, to the demand for care for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients during March–July 2020, and summarise preparations for the months to follow. METHODSThis was a rapid implementation action research case study, which also draws on one author’s experience as Chief Executive Officer and other members’ experience in an emergency management group. RESULTSSweden experienced similar mortality per million population to the UK, despite the different public health strategy used to address the COVID-19 outbreak. The Stockholm-integrated public primary and community health-care service, serving a population of 2.3 million, made many changes quickly. One change included coordinating non-acute private health-care services, following the local government emergency directive to do so. DISCUSSIONIt is possible that the fast and effective response by management and services in primary and community health care reduced infection and hospital demand, which contributed to a lower mortality than otherwise expected. The actions and preparations described for Stockholm’s response may provide ideas for other health-care systems. The partnership research approach between the Karolinska Medical University and the Region Stockholm health-care system used in this project shows that rapid research methods have advantages for both partners in an emergency situation.

There is a great prevalence of English in Swedish society, education as well as the research community. Recently, Stockholm University has revised its language policy in order to promote parallel use of Swedish and English. With this background, the current thesis aims to survey the linguistic landscape of Stockholm University in order to find out if there are any patterns that can be observed within it. Some inspiration was drawn from previous research into linguistic landscapes. The main discussion points of the current thesis are the linguistic landscape of Stockholm University, the relation between top-down and bottom-up signs as well as the relation between language use and language policy in light of the data gathered. In order to analyse and discuss this, data was gathered on two separate occasions in the form of signs placed into different categories. The first set of data was gathered in February and March of 2013 and the second set of data was gathered in October of 2015. There are visible patterns in the data, especially when making comparisons over time. Generally, Swedish is the most prevalent language in the linguistic landscape of Stockholm University, the lowest instance being just over 70%, but this prevalence shows a small decrease along with an increase in English and mixed language items going from 2013 to 2015. Also, mixed and English items are more common in bottom-up signs than they are in top-down signs. These English and mixed signs also increase or decrease locally from 2013 to 2015. There was also a local anomaly in that there was one area with a majority of bottom-up signs when the other areas had a majority of top-down signs. Given that this survey was explorative in its nature, it is difficult to draw many firm conclusions based upon the discussion points. However, it appears that there is a difference between language practices and the language policy documents at Stockholm University. The communications policy appears more close to reality however. Swedish also appears to be the language associated with power at said university.

The department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) at Stockholm University has experienced an increasing in the amount of international students that enrolled in the programs as well as an increasing in the worry about the issue of plagiarism in campus and online courses. The main purpose of this thesis was to investigate if the awareness, attitudes and perception of plagiarism among students and teachers were equivalent in writing and programming assignments as well as how online and classroom teaching impacted in the issue of plagiarism. The research consisted of paper and online surveys as well as semi-structured interviews. In total, there were 71 participants (47 students and 24 teachers) in the first phase of the research, text plagiarism and 101 participants (97 students and 4 teachers) in the second phase of the research, code plagiarism. The main results obtained show that the issue of plagiarism was not entirely clear both for students and teachers. Students and teachers from both groups (code and text plagiarism) had the same opinion in many topics such as the one regarding having clear information about what is allowed and not allowed, but in some other topics their opinion diverged greatly, for instance combining pieces of code taken from a book or internet was totally acceptable in programming while the same did not apply in writing assignments. These results were taken into account to consider the possibility that even though plagiarism was a common issue, there were some differences on what is allowed and not allowed in terms of code and text plagiarism. The thesis ends with a discussion about the results obtained from the research, presents some recommendations to how to deal with plagiarism and provides the reader with some future work suggestions.

This thesis presents the issue of user interfaces in Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), the difficulties in their use, and what we think could be done to alleviate these difficulties. The project came about as a result of complaints from students at a chemistry laboratory in Uppsala. Case studies of the laboratories in Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet were made in the form of interviews, questionnaires, on-site visits, and literature studies. Combining this work with our knowledge in computer science and visualization, we investigate the ramifications of user interface problems in this area as well as our proposition for solving them. Our study showed that there are unaddressed issues with interface usability and the handling of user feedback, and that there is a need both for further research and bolstered efforts to alleviate these issues.

Annotation:
The impact that the indoor environment has on productivity is a topic that has been investigated in numerous studies. There are a variety of different methods that have been used to evaluate productivity with. There are quantitative methods and there are qualitative ones, and both have been used in the literature as indicators or real productivity. The quantitative ones are for instance short arithmetical or linguistic performance tests or measurements of the actual quantitative output of a job. Qualitative assessments of productivity consist of different ways of allowing the subjects to rate their own productivity. Both these two approaches of evaluating productivity are claimed to be subject to different issues, and the question of which way is preferable is a matter of contention among the researchers. The quantitative approach is claimed to be unable to reflect the complex and qualitative output of many modern jobs, while the qualitative one is believed to be highly influenced by bias. This master’s degree project has investigated the associations between the two approaches and conducted a qualitative assessment of the impact of the indoor environment on the productivity in a university building in Stockholm. Numerous studies have been reviewed that include both quantitative evaluations of productivity and qualitative evaluations of the indoor environment. Qualitative evaluations are for instance evaluations of environmental satisfaction, as well as evaluations of healthiness and productivity. The relationship between the quantitative measurements and the subjective evaluation is indeed complex. However, there appears to be a consistency to some extent between the two, and the trend seems to indicate that occupants who are more productive are also more satisfied with the indoor environment or perceive themselves to be healthier or more productive. A working hypothesis has been formulated; that subjective evaluations of the indoor environment may act as indicators of productivity. This approach has been used in a university building in Stockholm, where the productivity of the students has been evaluated through a survey, together with physical measurements of the indoor environment. The survey is designed based on the current literature within the field. It has a large emphasis on productivity, with several questions concerning it directly and indirectly. The physical parameters that were measured were radiant temperature, air velocity, relative humidity, CO2- concentration and sound pressure level. Considerable correlations were observed between perceived productivity and environmental satisfaction, perceived environmental control and between different ways of evaluating productivity subjectively. The correlations between the physical measurements and the subjective evaluations were in general considerably weaker than the ones between the different subjective parameters. The correlations between the mean CO2-concentration and productivity was weak, and similar findings were obtained concerning sound pressure level. This emphasise the importance of heeding the opinions of the occupants while evaluating the performance of a building, as physical measurements alone appear to be unable to reflect the users’ perspective reliably. The correlation between the thermal parameters (evaluated by the PMV- value) and the subjective evaluations were, on the other hand, considerably stronger. This may indicate that the thermal parameters are among the most influential ones in creating a productive workplace. Furthermore, the study discusses different methods that have been used to evaluate productivity with. It discusses their weaknesses and strengths and what elements they contain that may be used for future studies of productivity.

This volume brings together twenty-eight papers from an International conference on attitudes towards the past and the creating of identities in Antiquity. The volume addresses many different approaches to these issues, spanning over many centuries, ranging in time from the Prehistoric periods to the Late Antiquity, and covering large areas, from Britain to Greece and Italy and to Asia Minor and Cyprus. The papers deal with several important problems, such as the use of tradition and memory in shaping an individual or a collective identity, continuity and/or change and the efforts to connect the past with the present. Among the topics discussed are the interpretation of literary texts, e.g. a play by Plautus, the Aeneid, a speech by Lykurgos, poems by Claudian and Prudentius, and of historical texts and inscriptions, e.g. funerary epigrams, and the analysis of the iconography of Roman coins, Etruscan reliefs, Pompeian and Etruscan frescoes and Cypriote sculpture, and of architectural remains of houses, tombs and temples. Other topics are religious festivals, such as the Lupercalia, foundation myths, the image of the emperor on coins and in literature, the significance of intra-urban burials, forgeries connected with the Trojan War, Hippocrates and Roman martyrs.

In recent years the focus and application of sustainability in buildings has risen. Both for environmental and human well-being reasons. The quality of the indoor environment affects the well-being, productivity and work performance, but it can also affect the occupants negatively, like increasing risks of different diseases and health issues. A good indoor environment alongside with sustainable materials, proper HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) installations and building code regulations contribute to a sustainable solution with low environmental impact and reduced energy consumption. Since buildings alone are responsible for 38% of all human GHG (Greenhouse gas) emissions (Wikipedia, 2017), most countries recommend new more sustainable solutions to reduce that percentage. For example, in the EU, the 2020 climate and energy package targets to: cut 20% in greenhouse gas emissions, 20% of EU energy from renewables and 20% improvement in energy efficiency (European Comission, n.d.). In addition to the positive aspect of low environmental impact new constructions have, they also create a good living or working environment for the users. Studies have shown that a better indoor quality increases the productivity and work performance, but most of all the occupants feel comfortable and satisfied with their environment. A great number of papers have reviewed the acoustic, visual, thermal comfort and indoor air quality, which are main aspects of the indoor climate. Most papers focus on the users’ perception of these four aspects as well as other parameters that influence the indoor environment (architectural geometry, materials, etc.). Similarly, in this study case I focus on two different methods of obtaining the results, the objective method that contains the indoor environment measurements and the subjective method which includes a questionnaire created specifically for this research project. By obtaining these two sets of data, key focus points are developed, such as if the building’s certification meets the recommendations of Miljöbyggnad, what aspects influence the students’ perception the most, and whether there are any distinct connections between measured and calculated data. This study case was developed in a university building in Stockholm, where the four main aspects of the indoor environment were evaluated. The physical parameters such as temperature, air velocity, relative humidity, CO2 concentration and acoustics were measured in five different classrooms. In addition, a survey was developed for this study which included perception questions of the thermal, visual, acoustic comfort and indoor air quality. As found in other studies, gender and climate zone origin affected the overall indoor environmental perception. Even though the majority of both genders voted for “no change”, the remaining females answered that they preferred the conditions warmer. Also, the majority of answers from all climate zones were “no change”. However, the second highest opinion for students from warmer climate zones was “warmer”, which has also been found in other studies. Significant negative correlations were found between the acoustics and the satisfaction level of the acoustic comfort. Similarly, high correlations were observed between the visual comfort satisfaction level and the three aspects influencing it. Furthermore, the results showed that all physical measurements influenced the students’ thermal comfort and indoor air quality perception. All measurements obtained indicated a good indoor environment in all classrooms, and all values were between the Swedish Standards recommendations. Low correlation was found between the measured PVM and the AMV from the questionnaires even though all the values were among the limitations. Lastly, this study reviews methods that could be applied to similar future studies and, discusses what kind of errors to avoid in the future. There is still a lot of research that can be developed in order to gain a deeper understanding of the indoor environment and how humans perceive it.

Gang Zhao of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Gang Zou of the East China University of Science and Technology devised (Adv. Synth. Catal. 2011, 353, 3129) an elegant catalyst for the direct enantioselective epoxidation of a simple acyclic enone 1. Ismail Ibrahem and Armando Córdova of Mid Sweden University and Stockholm University prepared (Adv. Synth. Catal. 2011, 353, 3114) 6 by combining three catalysts to effect the enantioselective addition of 5 to 4. Giovanni Casiraghi and Franca Zanardi of the Università degli Studi di Parma used (J. Org. Chem. 2011, 76, 10291) a silver catalyst to mediate the addition of 8 to 7 to give 9. Keiji Maruoka of Kyoto University condensed (Nature Chem. 2011, 3, 642) the diazo ester 10 with an aldehyde 4, leading, after reduction of the initial adduct and protection, to the diamine 11. Christoph Schneider of the Universität Leipzig effected (Synthesis 2011, 4050) the vinylogous addition of 13 to an imine 12, setting both stereogenic centers of 14. In the course of the coupling of 16 with the diol 15, Michael J. Krische of the University of Texas established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2011, 133, 12795) four new stereogenic centers. By adding (Chem. Commun. 2011, 47, 10557) an α-nitro ester 18 to the maleimide 19, Professor Maruoka established both the alkylated secondary center and the N-substituted quaternary center of 20. Srinivas Hotha of the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research and Torsten Linker of the University of Potsdam showed (Chem. Commun. 2011, 47, 10434) that the readily prepared lactone 21 could be opened to 23 without disturbing the stereogenic center adjacent to the carbonyls. Allan D. Headley and Bukuo Ni of Texas A&M University-Commerce devised (Synthesis 2011, 1993) a recyclable catalyst for the addition of an aldehyde 7 to a nitroalkene 24 in water to give 25. Alexandre Alexakis of the University of Geneva effected (Chem. Commun. 2011, 47, 7212) the triply convergent coupling of 26, 27, and 28 to give 29 as a single dominant diastereomer.

The authors performed a controlled study to compare commercially available amidolytic heparin assays based on anti-Xa or anti-I la systems. All participants (see below) were provided with the same batch of all heparin preparations and reagents including homogenous plasma preparation. In addition plasma was spiked with the various unfractionated (n=2) as well as lmwh- (n=5) and heparinoid preparation (n=l). The four university laboratories analyzed all heparin preparations that are registered or used in clinical trials in FRG (n=8). The two testkit producers analyzed registered heparin preparations and the heparin producer their brand only. The study was recently completed and the data analysed and collected. The first evaluation revealed that the amidolytic anti-I la assay is insensitive for lmwh and heparinoids. Determination of unfractionated heparins is not accurate below 0.5 units of the corresponding standard. The Xa-methods are more sensitive for lmwh and heparinoids, however these methods also reveal a high standard deviation. Estimation of concentrations below 0.5 units of all tested heparin preparations is questionable. The authors are indented for active cooperation to Prof. Dr. K. Andrassy (Med. Univ. Heidelberg), Dr. M. Biegholdt (MIDY LABAZ), Dr. G. Dertinger (Sandoz AG), Dr. VJ. Feller (Braun Melsungen AG), Dr. P. Friberger (Kabi Vitrum Stockholm), Dr. P. Hell stern (Univ. Annotation:
The importance of the parcel (also referred to as ‘plot’ or ‘lot’) as one of the fundamental elements of urban form is well recognized within the field of urban morphology. It has been described as a basic element in the pattern of land divisions that works as an organizational grid for urban form. One of the distinctive features of the parcel is its dual character: it means both a legal unit defining property rights and a physical entity. In urban fabrics, these dimensions act together to drive the evolution of built space. In this paper, we will investigate the entanglements of the morphological and the legislative definitions of the term, with the aim to resolve these, we better can address and compare the vital layer of parcels in different urban contexts, by both identifying common properties of the notion parcels, and dealing with variations in its legal framework in different countries. What we aim to capture with such a comprehensive definition is the relation between urban form and generic functions, which mainly concerns the functions of occupation and movement, where the system of parcels can be identified as spaces that embed an affordance for occupancy in cities of most kinds. The intended outcome of the paper is to unveil the power of the dual nature of the parcel, bridging between spatial and non-spatial dimensions of cities, that is, more precisely, a potential to establish a stronger interface between urban design and planning practice.
