Annotation:

Flowers have a variety of shapes, colors and structures, the images of which need to be classified using guided learning techniques. Several studies classify flowers using machine learning, but their accuracy performance is not good. The thing is, the flowers come in a variety of colors that can sometimes look similar to the background. Therefore, this study aims to classify flowers using a convolutional neural network (CNN) and measure its performance. The method used is mixed methods by collecting existing data from previous studies and connecting it with the realities in the field. The Kozłowski and Steinbrener models were used, while the image data was obtained from the Oxford17 and Oxford102 dataset with 17 and 102 flower types, respectively. The results show 60% and 84% accuracy of CNN using the scratch and transfer learning approach for the Oxford17 dataset. The Oxford102 dataset shows 42% and 64%, respectively, with CNN from baseline and transfer learning.

In this paper, we revisit the quantile mechanics approach, which was introduced by Steinbrecher and Shaw (Steinbrecher, G. & Shaw, W. T. (2008) Quantile mechanics. European. J. Appl. Math.19, 87–112). Our objectives are (i) to derive the method of trimmed moments (MTM) estimators for the parameters of gamma and Student's t distributions, and (ii) to examine their large- and small-sample statistical properties. Since trimmed moments are defined through the quantile function of the distribution, quantile mechanics seems like a natural approach for achieving objective (i). To accomplish the second goal, we rely on the general large sample results for MTMs, which were established by Brazauskas et al. (Brazauskas, V., Jones, B. L. & Zitikis, R. (2009) Robust fitting of claim severity distributions and the method of trimmed moments. J. Stat. Plan. Inference139, 2028–2043), and then use Monte Carlo simulations to investigate small-sample behaviour of the newly derived estimators. We find that, unlike the maximum likelihood method, which usually yields fully efficient but non-robust estimators, the MTM estimators are robust and offer competitive trade-offs between robustness and efficiency. These properties are essential when one employs gamma or Student's t distributions in such outlier-prone areas as insurance and finance.

Annotation:

A Construction of buildings on the beach is needed to provide facilities and infrastructure. An analysis of bearing capacity and foundation settlement for building construction is necessary to avoid structural failure. This study analyzed bearing capacity and foundation settlement on the East coast of Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Island Province, including Tikus Beach, Takari Beach and Karang Mas Air Anyir Beach, based on field data from Cone Penetration Test (CPT). Result showed that the level of soil consistency, bearing capacity, and foundation settlement can be analyzed by combining the structural loads for the 1 to 5 floor buildings. Bearing capacity of shallow foundation was calculated using the Meyerhof (1976) method, whereas the deep foundation is using the Meyerhof (1956) method. Settlement of shallow foundation was calculated using the Steinbrenner (1934) method, whereas the deep foundation is using the Vesic (1970) method. This study found the soil consistency levels at three locations had the range from medium to hard level. The analysis of foundation bearing capacity showed that the greater of soil bearing capacity, the smaller of foundation dimensions. The greater the load that must be held by the foundation, the greater the size of the foundation needed to withstand it. The analysis of the settlement showed that the smaller of the soil bearing capacity, the greater of settlement. The greater the load that must be withheld by the foundation, the foundation settlement will greater.

The lower structure of a building construction consists of a foundation and a layer of soil to support the load of the upper construction. The condition of the soil under the structure is closely related to the behavior of the soil itself when it receives loads, for example failures that occur in the sub-grade of the embankment foundation, namely the foundation soil is too soft so that the carrying capacity of the soil to withstand the load of the embankment is small, as a result the settlement that occurs is too large. So the soil layer under the structure must be strong, stable, safe, so that it does not decrease, does not break, because it will be difficult to repair a foundation system. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of embankment soil on a footing foundation and how much settlement was caused to the foundation. The Plaxis D2 V20 method is a finite element method that aims to analyze and design the geotechnical field. Soil samples were taken at the hospital. Wulan Windi, Medan City, using manual tools. The embankment soil investigation aims to determine the nature and characteristics of the embankment soil carried out at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of the Medan Area University and the Medan State Polytechnic laboratory. The results of the soil embankment research showed that the density of soil (Gs) = 2.63 gr, wet soil volume weight (γb) = 14.8512 kN/m3, dry soil volume weight (γd) = 0.3236 kN/m3, soil permeability ( K)= 12,929 cm/hour, shear stress (φ) = 23,610 . Soil cohesion (c) = 0.057 kg/cm2, Modulus of elasticity (E) = 2400 kN/m2 . Then from the results of the running plaxis, the deformation is 0.1601 meters, while that of the Steinbrenner method, the resulting decrease is 0.1232 m. which causes the plate footing of the tread foundation to fracture. The stress that occurs in the soil is 0.012 kN/m2 and from the analysis results obtained a safety factor of 1 (one).

AbstractCore vocabulary is defined as “lexical items that are accepted as being central and indispensable to language use” (Bell, 2012, p. 1). Use of core vocabulary is common amongst professionals who teach augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to individuals with disabilities. Although the use of AAC is often classified as an evidence-based practice (EBP) (Steinbrenner et al., 2020; Wong et al., Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 45(7), 1951–1966, 2015) an analysis of the relevant intervention procedures as well as the vocabulary used is often missing from syntheses of the literature. Therefore, a systematic review was conducted to determine the quality and strength of the evidence for AAC interventions that use core vocabulary. A systematic database search and a subsequent screening process resulted in a total of 10 peer-reviewed studies that involved an AAC intervention that used core vocabulary. Each study’s outcomes were then categorized as positive, mixed, or negative and a quality review was performed using the Council for Exceptional Children’s (CEC) standards for evidence-based practices (Cook et al., Teaching Exceptional Children, 46(6), 206-212, 2015a; Remedial and Special Education, 36, 220-234, 2015b). Overall, the results suggest a lack of strong evidence in favor of AAC interventions that use core vocabulary. The results are discussed in the context of general suggestions for vocabulary selection and teaching practices for AAC systems.
