Background: Globally, the prevalence of hypertension in the world is (22 percent) of the total world population, in Indonesia, it is (34.11 percent), in Lampung Province is (15.10 percent), in Pringsewu Regency is (12.22 percent) and in the community health center technical implementing unit Gadingrejo (11.3 percent). A national action plan states that one of the strategies for controlling the non-communicable disease is through strengthening early detection and the active participation of the community through Integrated Healthcare Services for Non-Communicable DiseasesPurpose: To analyze of Integrated Healthcare Services for Non-Communicable Diseases using the Anderson and Newman theoretical approach.Method: The type of research used is using quantitative methods, and uses cross-sectional methods. The population of all target communities of Integrated Healthcare Services for Non-Communicable Diseases was productive age >15-59 years in the working area of community health center technical implementing unit Gadingrejo in 2022 amounted to 1,938 people with a sample of 268. Multivariate analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis.Results: Finding a relationship between perceptions of integrated healthcare services for non-communicable diseases on family support (path coefficient -0.596 t statistic 2.898), perceptions of healthy behavior on perceptions of family support (path coefficient 0.582 t statistics 3.270), perceptions of integrated coaching post services on perceptions of health and illness (path coefficient 0.723 t statistic 6.174), perception of integrated coaching post service on integrated noncommunicable disease development post utilization (path coefficient 1.002 t statistic 11,654), perception of healthy behavior towards integrated non-communicable disease development post utilization (path coefficient -0.258 t statistic 3.226). There is no effect of the perception of healthy behavior on the perception of health and illness (path coefficient -0.028 t statistic 0.230), or the perception of family support on the perception of health and illness (path coefficient -0.045 t statistic 0.670). Based on the results of the study, it is hoped that health education will increase through visual, audio, and audiovisual media regarding the concept of health and illness, and healthy behavior in an effort to prevent hypertension and promote the benefits of integrated coaching posts to the community.Conclusion: The results of the test on the parameter coefficients between respondents’ perceptions have a significant effect on the Integrated Healthcare Services for Non-Communicable Diseases using the Anderson and Newman theoretical approach.Keywords: Utilization; Services; Integrated Healthcare Services for Non-Communicable DiseasesPendahuluan: Prevalensi hipertensi dunia secara global sebesar (22 persen) dari total penduduk dunia, di Indonesia sebesar (34,11 persen), di Propinsi Lampung sebesar (15,10 persen), di Kabupaten Pringsewu (12,22 persen) dan di UPT Puskesmas Gadingrejo (11,3 persen). Rencana Aksi Nasional P2PTM menyebutkan bahwa salah satu strategi penanggulangan PTM adalah melalui penguatan deteksi dini dan peran serta aktif masyarakat melalui posbindu PTM.Tujuan: Untuk menganalisis pemanfaatan layanan pos pembinaan terpadu penyakit tidak menular dengan pendekatan teori Andersen dan Newman.Metode: Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode cross sectional. The article studies agro-ecological activity, which combines goals of agricultural production with maximum regard to environment protection and rational nature use. The relative system of statistic indices gives an opportunity to trace the process and key results of this integrated work within the frames of sustainable development. Methodology of shaping statistic indices provided in the article is based on international classifications used in the field of environment protection. They include international classification worked out by the Eurostat in collaboration with the UN European Commission and OESR and by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO) in the field of nature protection, nature preservation and using land resources. The authors in view of complex analytical and informational approach put forward indices connected with registration and statistical description of the role of agriculture and rural territories in bio-diversity preservation, greenhouse gas emissions caused by agricultural production and rural territories functioning, ecological services and raw material utilization for bio-fuel output. The research findings include the development of the index system, which could improve the quality of statistic control over standing and progress of agro-ecology carried out by national statistic services of CIS memberstates. The obtained agro-ecological indices are harmonized with basic principles of developing environmental statistics in the context of sustainable development.

We, the Republic of Korea need to respond to come up with an effective counterplan for the resource supply and demand accordingly. The Korea Institute of Geological Resources (KIGAM) is a state-designated approval statistic institution and has been building the mineral commodity statistic data of the minerals, officially defined by the mining act of the Korean government since 1986. The statistical data of mineral commodity consist of the sales volume, distribution, and production of mines, and the labor conditions for operation, etc., based on the type of ore and the production of the region, month and mine. KIGAM published the various statistical data containing the production, import, export of the mineral commodity in various forms, including annual and monthly reports and by English. From a point in time where the human race declared itself the master of the universe to this point in time where it is facing an existential threat from the contagion- Covid 19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of the human race to a wipeout. The disruption of physical, mental, social, emotional and financial health and health systems is unprecedented. Study the impact of Covid 19 on continuity of essential health services in various health care institutions in district Amritsar, Punjab.: Online survey was conducted through google forms using questionnaire adapted from the World Health Organization-Pulse Survey on Continuity of Essential Health Services during Covid 19 pandemic. Respondents were personnel working at public and Ayushman Bharat empaneled private health care institutions. Response rate was 60% (55 out of 92 health care institutions personnel responded) A highly significant difference was observed between the public and the private health care sector in provision of antenatal care (Mann Whitney U statistic= 78.00, p=.004) and imaging and radio diagnosing services (Mann Whitney U statistic= 48.00, p=.000) while a significant difference was observed in provision of service of institutional delivery (Mann Whitney U statistic= 112.00, p=.046). All the other essential health services were similarly affected in the public and private health sector institutes. Financial difficulties faced during the lockdown was the single most common reason stated for disruption of essential health services. There was a significant difference in level of satisfaction experienced by health care personnel from public and private sector (Mann Whitney U statistic= 94.00, p=.02). Thematic analysis of the data on improving preparedness to minimize disruption in essential health services yielded the themes pertaining to creating a robust public health care infrastructure including use of e-health technology in the district and recruitment of adequate health care man power according to set norms.

Background: The quality of a hospital as an institution that produces healthcare technology products depends on the quality of medical services and nursing services provided to patients.Purpose: To find out the nurse's performance model for improving the quality of nursing services for health insurance (BPJS participants) Method: The study is a descriptive-analytic study that used a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique of the study was consecutive sampling and the sample of the study is inpatients in Karawang Regional General Hospital that used health insurance (BPJS participants) a total of 335 respondents. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS).Results: There is a significant effect of nurses’ performance against improving the quality of nursing service with a path coefficient of 0.233 and a T-statistic of 2,342. Psychological factors with indicators of perception, role, personality, motivation, and job satisfaction have a positive effect on performance with a path coefficient of 0,536 and T-statistic is 4,983, and a significant α=5%. The value of the T-Statistic is above the critical value (1,96).Conclusion: The psychological factor of a nurse in providing nursing services significant correlation value of nurses’ performance. Keywords: Performance; Nursing services; Quality; Health insurance (BPJS participants)Pendahuluan: Kualitas suatu rumah sakit sebagai institusi yang menghasilkan produk teknologi jasa kesehatan sudah tentu tergantung pada kualitas pelayanan medis dan pelayanan keperawatan yang diberikan kepada pasien.Tujuan: Mengetahui model kinerja perawat pelaksana terhadap peningkatan mutu pelayanan keperawatan pada pasien BPJS di Ruang Rawat Inap RSUD Karawang.Metode: Deskriptif analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional dan Teknik pengambilan sample dalam penelitian ini adalah consecutive sampling. Sample penelitian ini adalah pasien Rawat Inap di RSUD Karawang dengan jaminan kesehatan BPJS sebanyak 335 responden. Analisa data dilakukan dengan menggunakan PLS.Hasil: Ada pengaruh yang signifikan kinerja perawat terhadap peningkatan mutu pelayanan keperawatan dengan nilai path coefficient 0,233 dan T- statistic 2,342. Faktpr psikologi dengan indicator persepsi,peran,kepribadian,motivasi dan kepuasan kerja berpengaruh positif terhadap kinerja dengan nilai path coefficient 0,536 n nilai T-Statistic sebesar 4,983 dan signifikan pada α=5%. Nilai T-Statistic tersebut berada di atas nilai kritis (1,96).Simpulan: Semakin baik factor psikologi seorang perawat dalam memberikan pelayanan keperawatan maka semakin baik nilai kinerja perawat. Serta semakin baik kinerja perawat maka semakin baik mutu pelayanan di RSUD Karawang.

We apply APLE statistic to explore spatial autocorrelation of Russian regional inflationary processes. APLE is discussed to be the fine alternative to Moran’s I. To conduct this study we modify statistics of spatial dependence for panel data structure. We use time series of Russian regional CPIs (i.e. quantitative measure of inflation) of food, non-food, services baskets. We find evidence to confirm the hypothesis of the existence of spatial autocorrelation of regional inflationary processes on the horizon of our study.

Anti-Corruption Behaviour Survey is a national programme that measures individual Indonesians' anti-corruption knowledge, attitudes and experiences. The Survey also assesses the nationwide implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption (STRANAS-PPK) to establish a culture of zero tolerance for corruption in the country. A key activity in support of this assessment is to set the baselines for the STRANAS-PPK anti-corruption strategies.This study is aimed to analyze the mainly determined the anti-corruption behavior on Batam Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS). This research used descriptive statistical analysis method. Data collected in this research use interview technique, observation, and questioner. This sample of this research has been taken from government institution/ Regional Work Unit (SKPD)/ Research and Education Institution : National and International/ Mass Media/ Banking/ Private.The result of the analysis indicates that Batam Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) is relatively high compared with the average score of hope, The low average score of expectation shows that anti-corruption conditions in Batam Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) services are clean enough

This paper aims to produce an experimental economic statistic for the tourist accommodation services for Belo Horizonte under a flexible geography perspective. The starting point is the definition of economic activities in the tourist accommodation concept. The methodology adopted is up-down divided into four steps including filtering processes to accompany the definition, discounts related to obtaining information only for the tourists and procedures for adjustments to the statistics always being compared to the official disclosures and respecting the sum of regions. This analysis revealed an erratic behaviour of the number of establishments in Belo Horizonte across the years and half of the workforce is concentrated in micro and small enterprises. The data from the perspective of the flexible geography allowed to verify where the almost R$ 86 million indicated by the value added of the tourist accommodations were located in 2015. A large number of statistic services exist today, which shows that there is a great interest in knowing more about the visitors on a web site. But how reliable is the result the services are giving? The hypothesis examined in the thesis is: Web-based statistic services do not show an accurate result The purpose of the thesis is to find out how accurate the web-based statistic services are regarding unique visitors and number of pages viewed. Our hope is that this thesis will bring more knowledge about the different statistic services that exists today and the problems surrounding them. We will also draw attention to the importance of knowing how your statistic software works to be able to interpret the results correctly. To investigate this, we chose to do practical tests on a selection of web-based statistic services. The services registered the traffic from the same web site during a test period. During the same period a control program registered the same things and stored the result in a database. In addition to the test, we have done an interview with a person working with web statistics. The investigation showed that there are big differences between the results from the web-based statistic services in the test and that none of them showed an accurate result, neither for the total number of page views nor unique visitors. This led us to the conclusion that web-based statistic services do not show an accurate result, which verifies our hypothesis. Also the interview confirmed that there is a problem with measuring web statistics.
Ett stort antal statistiksystem existerar idag för att ta reda på information om besökare på webbplatser. Men hur pålitliga är egentligen dessa tjänster? Syftet med uppsatsen är att ta reda på hur pålitliga de är när det gäller att visa antal unika besökare och totalt antal sidvisningar. Hypotesen vi har formulerat är: Webb-baserade statistiksystem visar inte ett korrekt resultat. För att testa detta har vi gjort praktiska tester av fem olika webb-baserade statistiktjänster som användes på samma webbplats under samma period. Informationen som dessa tjänster registrerade lagrade vi i en databas, samtidigt som vi använde ett eget kontrollprogram för att mäta samma uppgifter. Vi har också genomfört en intervju med en person som arbetar med webbstatistik på ett webbföretag. Undersökningen visar att resultatet mellan de olika tjänsterna skiljer sig mycket, både jämfört med varandra och med kontrollprogrammet. Detta gällde både antal sidvisningar och unika besökare. Detta leder till slutsatsen att systemen inte visar korrekta uppgifter, vilket gör att vi kan verifiera vår hypotes. Även intervjun som utfördes visade på de problem som finns med att mäta besökarstatistik.

This project is dedicated to modelling and optimization of a queue system and personnel management in organizations and is designed as a case study of a phone customer service. Customer services have become an important part of the majority of modern business systems thanks to its role as a primary tool for communication between companies and customers. Hence follows great academical and practical interest for splendidly designed customer systems and even for personnel welfare. The latter is an important factor influencing a number of aspects, for example system’s effectiveness, quality of service and personnel turnover. The theory behind queue modelling and simulations can be found in chapter 2, which is followed by data overview. The approach of modeling is described in chapter 4 and includes data processing, estimation of intensities and simulation of similar datasets based on the produced intensities. Simulations are also used to produce working timetables, to show the dependence between target achievements and budget and check the model’s accuracy. The optimal working timetable with different budget targets is presented at the end of the chapter 5. The model’s accuracy and implications of the case study are discussed in chapter 6. Chapter 7 is dedicated to personnel welfare. Firstly, we consider relevant theoretical background such as organization theory and its HR perspective. Overview of personnel welfare system of the customer service modelled in the mathematical part is given in 7.3.1. This part is followed by case study of a company called T-Mobile. After that some aspects of personnel welfare are discussed, and the conclusions are drawn in chapter 8.
Detta projekt behandlar modellering och optimering av ett kösystem samt personalvård på organisationer och är utformad som en fallstudie av en telefonkundtjänst. Kundtjänstsystem har blivit en viktig del av de flesta, om inte alla, moderna affärssystem tack vare dess roll som ett primärt kommunikationsinstrument för företag och kunder. Härav följer stort akademiskt och praktiskt intresse för välfungerande kundtjänstsystem och inte minst för personalvården. Det sistnämnda är en viktig faktor som påverkar en rad aspekter såsom kundtjänstsystemets effektivitet, servicekvalitet och personalomsättning. Teorin bakom kömodellering och simulering hittas i kapitel 2, som följs av dataöverblick i nästa kapitel. Tillvägagångssättet vid kömodelleringen beskrivs i kapitel 4 och inkluderar databearbetning, estimering av intensiteter samt simulering av liknande datamängder med de framtagna intensiteterna som utgångspunkter. Simuleringar används dessutom för att ta fram scheman, visa beroendet mellan variabler måluppfyllnad och budget och kontrollera modellens träffsäkerhet. The design of the application is based on literature in usability and information visualization as well as a usability test. This thesis work resulted in a JavaScript based web application using the web framework CakePHP which follows a model-view-controller architectural pattern with visualization components implemented in Javascript.

The current technology shift has contributed to increased consumption of media and entertainment through various mobile devices, and especially through subscription based services. Storytel is a company offering a subscription based streaming service for audio and e-books, and has grown rapidly in the last couple of years. However, when operating in a competitive market, it is of great importance to understand the behavior and demands of the customer base. It has been shown that it is more profitable to retain existing customers than to acquire new ones, which is why a large focus should be directed towards preventing customers from leaving the service, that is preventing customer churn. One way to cope with this problem is by applying statistical analysis and machine learning in order to identify patterns and customer behavior in data. In this thesis, the models logistic regression and random forest are used with an aim to both predict and explain churn in early stages of a customer's subscription. The models are tested together with the feature selection methods Elastic Net, RFE and PCA, as well as with the oversampling method SMOTE. One main finding is that the best predictive model is obtained by using random forest together with RFE, producing a prediction score of 0.2427 and a recall score of 0.7699. The other main finding is that the explanatory model is given by logistic regression together with Elastic Net, where significant regression coefficient estimates can be used to explain patterns associated with churn and give useful findings from a business perspective.
Det pågående teknologiskiftet har bidragit till en ökad konsumtion av digital media och underhållning via olika typer av mobila enheter, t.ex. smarttelefoner. Storytel är ett företag som erbjuder en prenumerationstjänst för ljud- och e-böcker och har haft en kraftig tillväxt de senaste åren. När företag befinner sig i en konkurrensutsatt marknad är det av stor vikt att förstå sig på kunders beteende samt vilka krav och önskemål kunder har på tjänsten. Det har nämligen visat sig vara mer lönsamt att behålla existerande kunder i tjänsten än hela tiden värva nya, och det är därför viktigt att se till att en befintlig kund inte avslutar sin prenumeration. Ett sätt att hantera detta är genom att använda statistisk analys och maskininlärningsmetoder för att identifiera mönster och beteenden i data. I denna uppsats används både logistisk regression och random forest med syfte att både prediktera och förklara uppsägning av tjänsten i ett tidigt stadie av en kunds prenumeration. Modellerna testas tillsammans med variabelselektionsmetoderna Elastic Net, RFE och PCA, samt tillsammans med översamplingsmetoden SMOTE. Resultatet blev att random forest tillsammans med RFE bäst predikterade uppsägning av tjänsten med 0.2427 i måttet precision och 0.7699 i måttet recall. Ett annat viktigt resultat är att den förklarande modellen ges av logistisk regression tillsammans med Elastic Net, där signifikanta estimat av regressionskoefficienterna ökar förklaringsgraden för beteenden och mönster relaterade till kunders uppsägning av tjänsten. Därmed ges användbara insikter ur ett företagsperspektiv.

The resulting Scows is then equipped with a software tool which allows us to effectively perform model checking without incurring into the problem of state-space explosion, which would otherwise thwart the computation efforts even when checking relatively small models. In order to obtain this result, the proposed tool relies on the statistical analysis of simulation traces, which allows us to deal with large state-spaces without the actual need to completely explore them. Such an improvement in model checking performances comes at the price of accuracy in the answers provided: for this reason, users can trade-off speed against accuracy by modifying a series of parameters. In order to assess the efficiency of the proposed technique, our tool is compared with a number of existing model checking softwares.

A new model is postulated which uses current patterns of care to derive a set of alternative modes or packages of care, chooses a suitable set of allocations of clients to packages of care within given resource constraints and can be used to explore the effect on resource requirements of demographic changes, and to explore alternative ways of caring for clients if populations expand and/or resources are reduced. Comparisons are made with the DHSS Balance of Care model and with other models. An exploration is included of the weighting values used in the postulated model’s objective function.

The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part we describe the theoretical basis for what we explain and analyze in practice in other parts of this thesis. In this section, we can find all stages of the service life cycle according to ITIL methodology (IT Infrastructure Library), which serves to all organizations involved in managing IT services. We focus mainly on the current version of ITIL V3, which is grouped in five books and gradually through the entire service life cycle. Whereas it is not used only one standard in practice, there are also described other methodologies which are often used. In the second part there is shown the practice of service delivery in IT area for company Pražská energetika a.s. There are mapped individual processes, roles and functions of one of the stages -- Service Operations. The primary goal of this section is a detailed description of the Service Desk function, where we compare theory with practice. In the last, third part we analyze obtained data, for the purpose to evaluate function of Service Desk. One of the objective of this analysis is a data prediction, which we will achieve by using time series. The results of this analysis will be provided to the company management.

The aim of this diploma thesis was to create an own DiffServ domain model, which is supplemented with stations generating various type of network traffic and implementation of token-bucket mechanism in router´s process model in Opnet Modeler simulation environment. DiffServ domain is made up from two edge and two core routers and includes servers and client stations generating VoIP, FTP, HTTP and database access traffic. It is described a process of distribution of traffic into different classes on edge routers of DiffServ domain along with assurance of separate handling with usage of an Assured Forwarding PHB mechanism. In point of differentiated packet processing is process model completed with generating of various statistics. The process of their creating is used to check a dropper activity, which is implemented together with token-bucket mechanism on ARP layer of the router. The functionality of the model is verified by simulation.

Increased attention to statistical concepts has been a prevalent trend in revised mathematics curricula across grade levels. However, the preparation of secondary school mathematics educators has not received similar attention, and learning opportunities provided to these educators is oftentimes insufficient for teaching statistics well. The purpose of this study is to analyze pre-service teachers' conceptions about confidence intervals. This research inquired about statistical reasoning from the perspective of students majoring in mathematics education enrolled in an undergraduate statistics education course who have previously completed an introductory course in statistics. We found common misconceptions among pre-service teachers participating in this study. An unanticipated finding is that all the pre-service teachers believed that the construction of a confidence interval relies on a sampling distribution that does not contain every possible sample. Instead, they believed it is necessary to take multiple samples and build a distribution of their means. I called this distribution the Multi-Sample Distribution (MSD).

Abstract A quick look at the national accounts of today’s industrialized countries reveals a puzzling statistic: most of these countries do not have much industry at all as measured by manufacturing’s share of economic output. In fact, services make up the major share of these countries’ economic output. In this chapter, I discuss the extent to which services are replacing manufacturing as a driver of economic growth and development. I conclude that, although we should not underestimate the growing ability of services—especially digital services—to contribute to productivity growth and international trade, the manufacturing sector remains the backbone of economic growth and development. I also highlight that measurement issues put into question the supposed decline of the manufacturing sector’s share of gross domestic product, both within countries and globally.

Abstract The past several decades have seen a sizable investment-of capital, research, and programs-in problems of health and health care throughout the world. Nevertheless, although infectious diseases, family planning, and the health of infants have been the focus of active programs in the international health community, mental illnesses have not received attention proportionate to the suffering they produce. Several factors account for this. First, much of the burden of mental illness is relatively invisible to current forms of accounting. Because mental illnesses do not produce a large increase in the death rate, mortality rates (the most frequently cited public health statistic) fail to record the suffering they actually cause. For societies with high infant and maternal mortality rates, the apparent contrast between infectious diseases and mental illnesses is therefore deceiving.

For most Web searching applications, queries are commonly ambiguous because words usually contain several meanings. Traditional Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) methods use statistic models or ontology-based knowledge models to find the most appropriate sense for the ambiguous word. Since queries are usually short, the contexts of the queries may not always provide enough information for disambiguating queries. Thus, more than one interpretation may be found for one ambiguous query. In this paper, we propose a cluster-based WSD method, which finds out all appropriate interpretations for the query. Because some senses of one ambiguous word usually have very close semantic relations, we group those similar senses together for explaining the ambiguous word in one interpretation. If the cluster-based WSD method generates several contradictory interpretations for one ambiguous query, we extract users’ preferences from clickthrough data, and determine suitable concepts or concepts’ clusters that meet users’ interests for explaining the ambiguous query.

The rural development policy of the Agricultural Property Stock of the State Treasury in Poland (APS) is conducted by The Agricultural Property Agency – APA (since 1.09.2017 – The National Centre for Agriculture Support). The property managed by the APA includes agricultural land, forests, farm buildings, residential buildings as well as equipment and devices that are part of the social, technical, production, commercial and service infrastructure. The aim of research was to proof the influence of the gratuitous transfer of land from the APS to local government units, to engage them in social activities. The main methods used for it were: the analyse of legal acts in Poland, the analyse of reports and statistic data from APA and method of cartographic presentation – quantitative, cartogram. This article focuses on the social aspects of the APA’s operations, based on an analysis of the data supplied by the Regional Branch of the Agricultural Property Agency in Olsztyn. The results of the analyses were presented in table format. The rural development policy concerning the performance of public purposes in rural areas was analysed. The obtained information and materials were analysed to identify social investments carried out on agricultural land donated to local authorities from Agricultural Property Stock of the State Treasury. The results were used to analyse and describe the social aspects of the APA’s operations in rural area in Poland. Rural areas require various types of social assistance services. The Agricultural Property Agency has successfully fostered social development in rural areas, and it has the required resources and experience to continue that mission.

The United States has one of the most technically advanced, most expansive, most evenly distributed, and most freely accessed communication system on the planet. Yet Americans are simultaneously one of the most poorly informed populations (in terms of diversity of opinions/sources, depth and breadth of knowledge, etc.). The proliferation of personalized information services, photo news galleries, computer simulations, and a host of interactive media links on commercial Internet news sites have been hailed recently as one remedy for this troubling statistic. By 2005 the nations comprising Western Europe will represent the largest concentration of netizens in the world with more than 300,000,000 people connected to the Net, many seeking the same conveniences enjoyed by their American counterparts. This paper examines the relationship between technical features and usage patterns on several of the leading Internet news sites. I argue that as the Internet becomes more technically sophisticated, a proportionate, though inverse trend in the epistemological sophistication of its user base will be inevitable. Finally, I discuss the implications this trend holds for the future of a “global citizenry.”

This paper reports on an attempt to achieve this at the first level of civil service, through an innovative approach in rendering a course entitled “Quantitative Tools for Decision-Making” to the probationary officers of the 43rd Common Training Program at the Civil Services Academy of Pakistan. The course was wholly based on data pertaining to the 2011 Punjab Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2011). Feedback from participants in the four-month-long course provides motivation for recommending the ongoing adoption of this approach at all levels of civil service. Similar strategies may prove to be worthwhile in many other developing countries of the world striving to create statistical awareness in civil servants.

When teaching statistics teachers are encouraged to use real-life and student-relevant context to motivate and engage students. Linking statistics to other curriculum areas can provide that context, giving links between the world around us and the context-specific learning of statistics. There is considerable and rich literature on using meaningful contexts when teaching statistics. However, less attention has been paid to the development of students’ statistical thinking across curriculum areas. This paper focuses on pre-service secondary teachers’ views on integrating statistical investigations in their curriculum areas. As part of design-based study, pre-service teachers were required to explore the use of statistical inquiry cycle in their learning area. They planned, taught, and reflected on the processes of conducting a statistical investigation in their learning area. Teacher reflections indicate that while teachers were positive about integrating, they also identified some challenges.

Teachers’ professional competence is understood to include both cognitive and affective aspects. In the field of statistics, however, studies that address the relationship between in-service teachers’ orientations (affective aspect) and their knowledge (cognitive aspect) are scarce, and studies with prospective teachers yielded contradictory results in this regard. Accordingly, we surveyed 88 in-service mathematics teachers about their motivational and emotional orientations regarding teaching statistics, tested their basic statistical knowledge, and used linear mixed-effects models to analyze the relationship between orientations and knowledge. The results indicated that teachers with high self-efficacy showed higher statistical knowledge than less self-effective teachers, and that anxious women performed better than less anxious female teachers. This demonstrates the close relationship between the cognitive and affective aspects of in-service statistics teachers. Therefore, in order to develop professionally competent teachers, it seems worthwhile to address teachers’ fears and to strengthen their self-efficacy already during their teacher training in statistics.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has meant that an increasing number of chronically ill people need ongoing assistance with care and support. Programs providing home-based care (HBC) services are a key component of the response to HIV/AIDS. However, few programs are using operations research, including cost studies, to decide what services to provide and how to structure their services. In 2004, the Horizons Program undertook a study of six HBC programs from different South African provinces to provide key information to NGOs, government ministries, donors, and the programs themselves to inform decisions about service delivery. The study analyzed the cost of HBC services, the best use of resources, and how well programs are able to meet the needs of beneficiaries and their families. The sample represents programs that operate in rural areas and informal settlements. This brief focuses on the coverage, organization, volume, and costs of the services and on findings from two of the methods of data collection: financial records and service statistics, and interviews with financial officers, program managers, and caregivers.

Key Points The COVID-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions raised concerns that adolescents in Uganda may face barriers to receiving family planning commodities and services. Public and private service statistics data reveal that Uganda experienced smaller and shorter pandemic-related disruptions in adolescent access to sexual and reproductive health services than were initially anticipated. A temporary dip in service visits during April 2020 was followed by a return to previous levels and even an increase in family planning visits among adolescent women during the remainder of 2020. These results speak to the resilience of the health system, which continued to provide services, and the impact of actions by partners to support access to reproductive health supplies and services. The Ministry of Health and other stakeholders should take the following steps to ensure adolescents’ continued access to sexual and reproductive health services throughout the remainder of the pandemic: Document and foster the adaptions and processes that helped ensure continuity of services during the COVID-19 restrictions, so that similar measures may be adopted in future crises. Promote meaningful participation of young people in COVID-19 task forces, to ensure that relevant policies are gender-inclusive and respond to young people’s sexual and reproductive health needs. Classify contraceptive care as an essential service, integrate it with COVID-19 response interventions and ensure that it remains fully operational and open before, during and after any future lockdowns.

This paper analyzes and compares the determinants of innovation in the service industry and its impact on labor productivity at the firm level in three countries of Latin America (Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay). The main findings show that, similar to what is observed in manufacturing industry, service firms that invest the most in innovation activities are more likely to introduce changes or improvements in their production process and/or product mix, and those firms that innovate have higher labor productivity than non-innovative firms. Size was found to be a less relevant determinant of innovation in services than in manufacturing, suggesting that the need for infrastructure and associated sunk costs are lower in services. Conversely, cooperation was found to be far more important for innovation in services than in manufacturing, in line with the more interactive nature of innovation in services. Yet, large differences in statistical significance and size of the coefficients of explanatory variables among the countries studied suggest that the framework conditions where a firm operates have an important role in innovation decisions.

In the pages that follow, a series of tables and figures display visitor use statistics for calendar year 2023. By documenting visits, hours, and overnight stays across the National Park System, the National Park Service (NPS) Statistical Abstract offers a historical record of visitor use in parks and provides NPS staff and partners with a useful tool for effective management and planning. In 2023, 400 of the 428 National Park System units collected and reported visitor use statistics; the remainder are unable to do so for a variety of reasons such as administration by another agency, non-federal land ownership, or new parks that lack staff and facilities for the management of visitor use statistics. The responsibility for compiling and summarizing visitor use statistics resides with the Social Science Program in the NPS Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate. The Program relies on the conscientious efforts of NPS field personnel to count, record, and report visitor use. This system of collecting and summarizing monthly visitor use data is combined with continuous review and assessment of park visitor use estimation procedures to promote consistency and accuracy of data.
