The article reveals a set of means of sports and health tourism in the physical education of students. The article considers modern ideas about physical education, sports and tourism as a system that includes sports and health tourism in all components of physical education. It is established that sports and health tourism in the system of physical education is represented by a detailed typology of tourism in relation to physical culture. The importance of recreational and sports tourism is described. It was revealed that currently the implementation of the program in the discipline of "Physical Education" in higher education institutions has certain difficulties, in particular, the preparation of free economic education for the transition to a new system of higher education has revealed a number of organizational and regulatory problems. It is especially important now to identify effective, affordable and attractive for students means of physical education, sports and tourism. In the system of physical education of students, the means of sports and health tourism are currently not used effectively enough. Tourism in higher education institutions is considered as a part of recreational physical culture, presented in the mode of active recreation, which narrows the range of means of sports and health tourism in the physical education of students. Decreased physical activity is one of the main reasons for the deterioration of students' health. Academic classes on physical education, held as part of the curriculum, are designed to increase functionality, improve physical fitness, increase the body's adaptive reserve.

With declining availability of funds for recreational-related construction, communities are searching for innovative ways to receive funding. To have a better chance of receiving funding for the construction of a sports complex and to create a sanctuary for the federally endangered plant, the Texas poppy-mallow (TPM), a partnership was formed among city, county, state, and federal agencies, and private landowners. As a result, Mitchell County was awarded $441,000 from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Recreation Matching Grant Program and Partners for Fish and Wildlife to build a 20-acre sports and recreation complex. Funds were awarded, in large part, because Mitchell County created a sanctuary for the TPM. This partnership also represents the first endeavor to restore the TPM.

Nowadays we observe a rapid growth of various new and actively developing facilities for winter sports and recreation. This paper is aimed at analyzing the structure of these facilities and establishing the dependence of their public popularity on the design, technology, environmental and economic efficiency. The main research methods are monitoring of the chosen facilities, data collection and summarizing, classifying and description. The key procedures and results include on-site investigations of the facilities, sociological surveys of their popularity, definition of the factors that hamper their development, working out and testing a mathematical model of climatic influence on attendance. It is shown that despite the growing demand for new sports and recreational centers, most Russian cities do not have the necessary natural conditions (elevations, complex relief) to satisfy the requirements of the contemporary winter sports enthusiasts. To meet this demand, artificial constructions for mountain and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tubing and skating are set in parks, residential areas and on specially designated territories. In building theses facilities, various designs, constructions and technologies are used, which are considered in detail in this paper. We provide examples of successful recreational centers on artificially engineered reliefs well-blended with the Moscow urban area. We make a conclusion about the advantages of constructing new facilities and the necessity to fit them harmoniously into the existing natural and man-made environment. Temporary constructions for sports and recreation have minimal impact on the environment. At the same time, they give room for experimenting with forms, materials, technologies; they are flexible, mobile and relevant for cities. We characterize such facilities as nature-and-technology compatible systems. Our findings can be useful for specialists in urban planning and development, ecology, sociology, economics, sports and recreational management.

Pond fisheries are one of the promising areas of fisheries in Ukraine and the world. The vast resources of the inland waters of our country are a reliable source of valuable fishery products. However, the potential of this source is not fully exhausted. Therefore, a significant increase in the production of commercial fish can be achieved as a result of the construction of new commercial fisheries and factories, whose task is to recreate fish stocks. One of the leading places among all kinds of outdoor activities is sports and amateur fishing. Capture fishing has become a permanent fixture for hundreds of millions of people around the world. It is estimated that in Ukraine sport and recreational fisheries cover about 10 % of the population. The purpose of the work was to find out the current state of fish productivity of the Black Sea ponds of Odesa region for the creation of specialized fisheries. The fish productivity of the Black Sea ponds, the forage base and the ichthyofauna were investigated, the most valuable representatives of the ichthyofauna for amateur fisheries in these reservoirs were identified, the recommendations on the creation of a special cultural fishery on the Black Sea ponds were provided. It is established that the feed base in the Black Sea ponds for fish young is quite rich and varied. The current state of development of the forage base indicates the possibility of successful fishing activities and in particular the development of recreational fisheries. In case of intensification of economic activity there is a need to carry out a certain complex of fish-and-melioration works. As a result of the conducted researches it is established that the Black Sea ponds should be used for the creation of cultural fisheries for the purpose of organizing amateur fisheries, and the formation of ichthyocenosis should be carried out by purposeful fishing of valuable fish species suitable as objects of amateur and sport fisheries. Creating appropriate conditions for amateur fisheries as a popular way of recreational recreation of a large part of the population of Ukraine involves solving a number of biological, environmental and legal issues related to the reproduction and acclimatization of fish, the organization of sports and recreational fisheries, taking into account the characteristics of reservoirs, the impact of ecological and climatic conditions fisheries, etc.

Objectives: To investigate the ability of patients to return to sport following arthroscopic meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT). Methods: Patients undergoing arthroscopic MAT between 2013 and 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients completed an outcome survey regarding return to sports in addition to patient reported outcome measures. Subsequent surgery and failure (total meniscectomy, revision MAT, or total or partial knee arthroplasty) were also evaluated. Results: Of 117 MAT performed, 87 patients (74.4%) were available at average 3.6 year follow-up. The average age at time of surgery was 29.0+/-8.3. All 84 patients underwent prior ipsilateral knee surgery with an average of 3.5+/-2.1 prior procedures. MAT was lateral in 44 cases (50.6%), medial in 42 cases (48.3%), and combined medial and lateral in one case (1.1%). Concomitant procedures were performed in 72 patients (82.7%) including cartilage restoration (65, 74.7%), realignment (9, 10.3%), and ACL reconstruction (9, 10.3%). Patients experienced significant improvement compared to preoperative Lysholm, IKDC, KOOS, WOMAC, and SF-12 physical scores (p < 0.001). Within three years prior to MAT, 82 patients (94.3%) reported participation in sporting activities. Due to knee symptoms, 62 patients (75.6%) discontinued at least one sport prior to MAT. Of the 82 patients participating in sports preoperatively, 62 patients (75.6%) returned to at least one sport at an average of 12.3 months after MAT. Rates of return to specific sports were highest for light weight lifting, yoga, swimming, and cycling and all RTS rates are shown in Table 1. The percentage of patients participating in sports above the recreational level declined significantly (46.0% prior to symptoms versus 8.2% after MAT, p < 0.001). The most common reasons for decreasing level of sport postoperatively were: to prevent further damage (73.6%), pain or swelling with sports (51.4%), fear of further injury (48.6%), surgeon recommendation (33.3%), and decision to pursue other activities (11.1%). Patients reported being satisfied with their ability to participate in sports at a rate of 63.2%, and 78.8% reported they would still undergo MAT with the benefit of hindsight. Reoperation was performed in 26 patients (29.9%) with 12 patients experiencing failure (13.7%; 1 TKA, 2 UKA, 9 total meniscectomy). Conclusion: In a complex patient population undergoing arthroscopic MAT, 75.6% of patients were able to return to at least one sport at an average of 12.3 months postoperatively. Level of sport declined compared to baseline, with most patients restricting involvement to recreational sports after MAT. The most common reasons for decreasing level of sport were: to prevent further damage, pain or swelling with sports, and fear of further injury. [Table: see text]

Public health has historically been concerned with eliminating factors associated with disease, disability, and early mortality, whereas leisure studies has emerged from the need to create and manage recreational opportunities and promote leisure activities and experiences. Coincidently, both fields have progressed toward an appreciation of the role of active leisure in enhancing a population’s health and well-being. Factors associated with making choices to be physically active in leisure time are complex and multidimensional. This paper provides historical perspectives from public health and leisure studies (i.e., parks and recreation), describes models used to understand physically active leisure from both fields, and suggests direction for future collaborative research between public health and parks, recreation, and leisure researchers.

The prediction and prevention of sudden cardiac death is the philosopher’s stone of clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Sports can act as triggers of fatal arrhythmias and therefore it is essential to promptly frame the athlete at risk and to carefully evaluate the suitability for both competitive and recreational sports activity. A history of syncope or palpitations, the presence of premature ventricular complexes or more complex arrhythmias, a reduced left ventricular systolic function, or the presence of known or familiar heart disease should prompt a thorough evaluation with second level examinations. In this regard, cardiac magnetic resonance and electrophysiological study play important roles in the diagnostic work-up. The role of genetics is increasing both in cardiomyopathies and in channelopathies, and a careful evaluation must be focused on genotype positive/phenotype negative subjects. In addition to being a trigger for fatal arrhythmias in certain cardiomyopathies, sports also play a role in the progression of the disease itself, especially in the case arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. In this paper, we review the latest European guidelines on sport cardiology in patients with cardiovascular diseases, focusing on arrhythmic risk stratification and the management of cardiomyopathies and channelopathies.

Aim. Study of a group of biochemical parameters of the hepatopancreas and gills of the Black Sea mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam. and the functional indicator of cardiac system adaptivity of mussels from Sevastopol bays with different levels of recreational and anthropogenic impact.Methods. Mussels were collected from four Sevastopol water areas (Kruglaya Bay, Kazachya Bay, Matyushenko Bay and Cape Khrustalnii) in autumn 2018. The bioindication methods used were based on application of functional (cardiac system adaptability) and biochemical indicators (antioxidant enzymes activity [AEA], aminotransferases, the alkaline phosphatase [AP], and products of the lipid peroxidation [LPO] and protein oxidation [PO]) of mussel tissues. The hydrochemical parameters of the investigated areas were determined.Results. The anthropogenic impact on a complex of biochemical indicators of mussels at the sampling sites was shown. At the same time, low values of mussel heart rate (HR) recovery time (Trec) (less than 60 min.) in all sampling sites demonstrated the efficiency of biochemical changes in mussels and the possible use of all tested bays as recreational areas.Conclusion. Results of the present research allow the characterization of the ecological status of these Sevastopol sea water areas and to make recommendations about their rational use. Matyushenko and Kazachya Bays are most suitable for beach recreation and recreational fishery. Kazachya Bay also has favourable conditions for the development of water sports. Kruglaya Bay and Cape Khrustalnii are less ecologically safe and require a series of actions to improve water quality.

We substantiated the uniqueness of recreational agglomerations as a separate functional type and considered features of the process of urbanization in recreational areas with a secondary type of appearance of recreational functions. It is spoken in detail about existing scientific literature on the problems and indicated the existing “white spots” which requiring deeper scientific study. The main methodological principles are indicated, on the basis of which a subsequent deep analysis of the process of agglomeration in recreational areas was carried out. The peculiarities of the urbanization process in recreational areas with the secondary type of recreational functions appearance are considered. Basis on this we presented the author’s scheme which reflects the evolution of the urbanization process in the recreational area. The much attention is given to interrelations between the rapid development of recreational functions and agglomeration in the region. The author’s scheme of the features of the formation process of the planning structure of recreational settlements is presented, on the basis of which the analysis of the main transformations of the planning structure of coastal recreational cities in the socio-economic conditions characteristic of the historical past of the Russian Federation was carried out. We studied the main problems and internal conflicts of recreational agglomerations as complex polyfunctional systems. The nature and sources of hotbeds of tension in urban recreational centers are considered, on the basis of which their classification is derived. After we presented a detailed analysis of the identified types of conflicts and gives examples of hotbeds typical for large urban recreational centers. Based on the selected types, we give some recommendations aimed at overcoming the main problematic situations of recreational agglomerations in conclusion we indicated the possibilities of alternative ways of development of the urbanization process in recreational areas, which allow to prevent a high level of social tension in the system of settlement of recreational areas.

As a result of wartime operations, many citizens of child-bearing and working age either fell or became disabled, and in the best of cases required treatment due to a worsening of hygienic conditions and malnutrition. According to the Polska Zbrojna magazine from 1933, the health of the Fatherland’s defenders required particular attention. For this reason, in the Second Republic of Poland, the officers’ corps had its own holiday system. Military architecture can largely bring to mind standardised urban layouts of barracks complexes filled with repetitive architecture. However, the architecture of holiday houses, sanatoriums and officers’ homes dedicated to recreation and entertainment (pensioners insisted on the hosting of dancing nights) and health treatment/convalescence is something different altogether. Although the first military holiday home in Cetniewo was built in the manorial style, the so-called White Manor (Biały Dworek), successive buildings were largely designed in the Modernist style, which perfectly fit the relaxed atmosphere and was healthy due to its immanent assumptions: it was equipped with impressive glazing, where the clash of masses caused the appearance of open rooftop terraces, etc. Officers, non-commissioned officers and their families had access to year-round holiday facilities such as the Officers’ Holiday Home in Augustów, seasonal facilities (Officers’ Holiday Complex in Jurata), as well as sanatoriums (Military Sanatorium in Otwock). After sailing and kayaking had become popular among officers, facilities dedicated to specific sports club began to appear, such as the Yacht Club in Zegrze. The design of such facilities was the domain of not only military engineers, but also avant-garde civilian designers, such as Edgar Norwerth, Marian Lalewicz, etc. Recreational homes were not only of recreational and integrative significance, but were also important in propaganda: the Officers’ Recreational Home in Cetniewo was to mark Polish presence on the freshly reclaimed Baltic coast through its modern, avant-garde architecture.

Abstract Objective High-level cognitive performance is important for navigating the complex environment of sport. The executive function domain may be of particular importance because it focuses on flexible thinking and self-control. It is unclear if high-level athletes exhibit similar executive function compared to recreational athletes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare executive function between male and female Division-I collegiate athletes and recreationally active peers. Methods Thirty-seven Division-I athletes (16 females, 21 males) and 30 recreationally active college students (19 females, 11 males) participated. Participants completed the Flanker Inhibitory Control and Attention Test (FICA) and Dimensional Change Card Sort Test (DCCS) from the National Institute of Health Toolbox Cognitive Battery on a tablet to assess cognitive flexibility and attention and inhibitory control, respectively. Demographically-corrected T-scores were used for analysis. Two-way ANOVAs compared cognitive performance based on group and sex (p ≤ 0.05). Results There was a significant group-by-sex interaction for the FICA (p = 0.005). Female recreational athletes (50.68 ± 10.18) demonstrated higher FICA scores compared to female Division-I athletes (40.88 ± 7.35; p = 0.003, ES = 1.06). Male Division-I athletes (48.67 ± 10.39) also exhibited greater scores compared to female Division-I athletes (p = 0.015, ES = 0.83). There was no significant group-by-sex interaction (p = 0.84), group effect (p = 0.35), or sex effect (p = 0.43) for the DCCS. Conclusions Female Division-I athletes demonstrated poorer performance on the FICA compared to male Division-I athletes and recreational female athletes which may indicate a decreased ability to suppress motor responses caused by internal or external distractions. The significance of these findings for mitigating injury risk and improving athletic performance should be explored.

Sports nutrition products are developed and targeted mainly for athletes to improve their nutrient intake, performance, and muscle growth. The fastest growing consumer groups for these products are recreational sportspeople and lifestyle users. Although athletes may have elevated physiological protein requirements and they may benefit from dietary supplements, the evidence regarding the role of dietary protein and supplements in the nutrition of recreational sportspeople and sedentary populations is somewhat complex and contradictory. In high-protein diets, more undigested protein-derived constituents end up in the large intestine compared to moderate or low-protein diets, and hence, more bacterial amino acid metabolism takes place in the colon, having both positive and negative systemic and metabolic effects on the host. The aim of the present review is to summarize the impact of the high-protein products and diets on nutrition and health, in sportspeople and in sedentary consumers. We are opening the debate about the current protein intake recommendations, with an emphasis on evidence-based effects on intestinal microbiota and personalized guidelines regarding protein and amino acid supplementation in sportspeople and lifestyle consumers.

Introduction.Considerably increased intensity of educational process in higher education institution frequently becomes the reason of deterioration in students’ health. The traditional system of physical education (PE), designed to maintain good health of students in new conditions, does not cope with an objective defined. Obviously, health preservation of a person is promoted by physical activities, which are adequate to his or her psycho-physiological characteristics and should be worked out individually for each person. The estimations can be carried out in different ways and on the basis of different parameters, among which the authors emphasise heart rate variability and vegetative regulation that act as indicators of adaptation and adaptive activity of an organism. The aimof the present research was to identify individual appropriate physical load for students with various motion behaviour types through the use of informational technologies (IT).Methodology and research methods. The research was based on health-preserving and differentiated approaches to physical education organisation. Health preservation was the leading principle of the approaches taken into account. The empiric research methods included content analysis, comparative analysis, synthesis and generalisation. The survey sampling and processing of experimental data were carried out by means of the hardware and software complex (HSC).Results and scientific novelty. The authors studied and documented the interconnection of students’ heart rate variability, taking into account their age and sex peculiarities, motion behaviour and medical groups. The regulatory systems tension degree differentiation was offered and approved. The criteria to determine a vegetative tonus of students (eutony, vagotony, sympathicotony) were identified on the basis of nonparametric algorithms of automatic classification, recognition of samples and theorem of statistical hypothesis tests. Thus, PE teacher can systematically increase the adaptation potential of students due to inclusion in a training course of corrective and rehabilitation programmes. The efficiency of IT in sport and recreational physical activities was scientifically based. The diagnostics on the basis of HSC, which includes data filtering, determination of parameters of selection of the histogram, graphic display of results of the spectrogram, allows specialists: to estimate the work of cardiovascular system and adaptatively compensation abilities of vegetative regulation mechanisms in a comprehensive, accurate and rapid way; to determine various violations of heart rhythm at donosological level (sick sinus node, atrial fibrillation, etc.); to select options for individual physical and training loads.Practical significance. The authors’ scientific and methodological approach to the organisation of sport activities raises the subject of PE in higher educational institutions to a significantly upgraded level: through computer technologies, it becomes the effective instrument of health-preserving activity, which is the promising direction in PE of student’s youth. The research results can be used in practice of educational institutions of various types.

Category: Midfoot/Forefoot, Trauma Introduction/Purpose: Controversy remains as to the optimal treatment of injuries to the tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) joint complex. Recent studies have described open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) with primary arthrodesis as a viable treatment option but there is limited orthopaedic literature as to the functional results of primary arthrodesis for these injuries. The senior author began treating these injuries with primary arthrodesis in 2005. We present the functional results of a consecutive series of patients with injuries to the TMT joint complex treated by ORIF with primary arthrodesis. Methods: Sixty-eight consecutive patients underwent ORIF with primary arthrodesis from 2006 to 2015. Seventeen patients were unable to be evaluated or contacted and were therefore lost to follow up, leaving 51 patients available for follow-up evaluation. Clinical follow up and/or telephone interviews was conducted. AOFAS Midfoot scores and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) were collected as a measure of functional outcome at final follow up. Results: Sixty-seven of 68 patients (98.5%) went on to radiographic union following the index procedure. Among patients with a low energy mechanism (32 patients), AOFAS and FAAM were 88.7 and 94.0; among those with a high- energy mechanism (19 patients), AOFAS and FAAM were 86.9 and 89. Outcome scores were higher in the low energy group: AOFAS by 2.1(p=0.667); and FAAM by 5.0 (p=0.021). Injury to the lateral midfoot necessitating fixation was less likely in the low energy group compared to the high-energy group (7.5% versus 37.0%; p=0.0032). Eighteen of the 51 patients participated in professional, collegiate or recreational sports preoperatively. All 18 were able to return to their previous sport, with a mean FAAM sports sub scale score of 93. Conclusion: ORIF with primary arthrodesis remains a viable treatment for injuries to the tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) joint complex, with functional results in the good to excellent range at midterm follow up. Patients with low energy mechanisms demonstrated higher functional scores compared to patients with high energy mechanisms, but outcomes remained good to excellent in both groups. Of those who participated in athletics prior to injury, all were able to return to their previous sport.

The article highlights the problem of gradual professional training of future coaches in the field of fitness, recreational physical culture, studying at the State University of Physical Education and Sports. The main aspects of such training are the formation and improvement of a complex of personal and professional qualities. In this regard, a sociological survey of students of the first cycle of study (1-3 courses) in the specialty «Fitness and recreational programs» was organized. For this, questionnaires were developed, the questions of which were conditionally divided into 3 categories: the first – determines the knowledge of preparation for the profession and activities of a fitness trainer; the second – studies the aspirations to acquire new skills, knowledge and skills of a fitness trainer; the third – reveals the professional qualities and abilities of a fitness trainer. The analysis of the survey results revealed that all the interviewed students are confident in the correct choice of their profession. In the learning process, there is a gradual, staged, growth of the level of professional training, including the formation of professional and personal qualities, as well as professional and motor abilities. At the same time, it can be noted that all the students participating in the survey, to one degree or another, are engaged in self-improvement, attending various events aimed at improving the level of their preparedness for the activity of a fitness trainer. This allowed a larger number of students (67%) to get a job in fitness clubs by the third year. In addition, it turned out that all the students who participated in the survey were involved in some kind of sport. Many of them work as trainers in fitness clubs without changing their direction in sports. Thus, one can observe the phased dynamics of the formation of a specialist, fitness trainer, from the first year of study at the university to the third.

Abstract World experience shows that the means of physical culture and sports have a universal ability of a complex approach to solving problems of people’s health improving and formation of a sound psychological climate in labor collectives and in the community as a whole. Physical culture and sports is a preventive tool for health maintaining, promotion and prevention of various noninfectious diseases (cardiovascular, coronary heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, etc.) and bad habits (drinking, smoking, toxicomania, etc.). Moreover, as it is noted by American and European experts, the use of physical activity and sport in order to prevent morbidity requires very slight additional costs from the state. Currently, in Belarus there is an urgent need in drastic measures aimed at improving the quality of public health, formation of new guideline values in the youth, and in fitness culture development. Encompassing various forms of motor activity, fitness meets the needs of different social groups in sports and recreational activities at the expense of fitness programs diversity, their accessibility and emotionality. It promotes not only the motor, but also the general culture of the people involved. Possessing significant adaptation and integrative capabilities, fitness is a phenomenon of modern physical culture with a multifunctional impact on various spheres of public life. This favors its integration into all kinds of physical activities. Because of differences in the approaches of American, European and Belarusian practices in the use of fitness we propose improvement of public health by creating a cluster in fitness of Belarus.

By implementing in the process of preparation of dynamic games, sticks and competitions for students of 13-15 years we aim to consolidate and perfect the technique of football. By using these means during the training hours I suppose that the level of technical training of the students in the representative school football team for women will be improved. From 1987 to 1994, the senior author performed 41 Achilles tendon repairs. We identified 11 patients during this period (age, 35.3 years; range, 26–60 years) who fit the criterion for neglected Achilles tendon rupture (repair ≥ 4 weeks and ≤ 12 weeks from injury). All patients underwent proximal release of the gastrocsoleus complex, imbrication of the early fibrous scar without excision of any local tissue, and primary repair of the tendinous ends with two No. 5 Ticron sutures (5R, 6L). Several (three to five) No. 0 Vicryl sutures were used to augment the repair. The ankle was placed in a 20° plantarflexion nonweightbearing short leg cast for 3 weeks. All skin closures were primary. At 3 weeks, weightbearing as tolerated was initiated in a short leg cast. The cast was discontinued at 6 weeks, and physical therapy was initiated, consisting of range of motion exercises and closed kinetic exercises, progressing to functional exercises as swelling, strength, and pain allowed. Minimal follow-up was 18 months (mean, 3.5 years; range, 1.5–5.8 years). There have been no subsequent ruptures to date. All patients returned to a preinjury level of activity at a mean of 5.8 months (range, 2.5–9 months). Total range of motion was not different ( P > 0.05) between the involved (67°) and uninvolved (74°) ankle. Plantarflexion loss of strength in the involved ankle was the same (98.4%, 88.1%, and 87.6% respectively, involved to uninvolved) as that seen after acute repair at all speeds tested. Visual analog pain scale (0 to 10) revealed a mean score of 0.7 (range, 0–2) during activities of daily living and 1.0 (range, 0–3) during sports activity. The subjective and objective outcome was similar ( P > 0.05) to that seen after an acute repair by the same surgeon. There were no complications including skin sloughs or nerve damage. We believe this is the first article to report the results after primary repair without augmentation for the neglected Achilles tendon rupture. We conclude that this approach can result in excellent clinical and functional outcome, a low rate of subsequent rupture, and a high rate of return to sports in the recreational athlete whose repair is performed between 4 and 12 weeks after injury.

The paper provides an overview of the most important archaeological sites in the wider area of Ražanac, Podvršje and Ljubač, which date from prehistory to New Age. Since a significant part of the explored sites are located on natural hills, sea bays and water-rich areas, their role as a kind of catalyst in the promotion of cultural and natural beauty of the area is highlighted. In this context, localities have become important destinations in the development of cultural and sports tourism, as a unified form of the local community tourist offer. The position of Ljubljana above Ljubač (Castrum Liube) as a complex archaeological site that offers a layered historical story is especially noteworthy. Due to its natural environment, the mentioned position above Ljubač is ideal for setting up cultural and sports-recreational trails, and ultimately the area has excellent predispositions for the formation of an archaeological park in the future. Such a thing would certainly affect local economic growth and development. This is especially pronounced on the economic impact of the organization of cultural and sporting events.

Abstract New national and international societies that examine sports have been created and developed in Europe as well as on other continents. These societies, which examine the complex phenomena, issues, and questions concerning sports as seen from the different scientific points of view, are rooted in two main research directions: the natural sciences on the one hand, and the social sciences on the other. The authors of the paper point to the significant and ongoing development of the social sciences of sport. In particular, the authors discuss the development of the sociology of sport, philosophy of sport, psychology of sport, pedagogy of sport, history of physical culture, sports and Olympics, the organization and management of sport, social and cultural foundations of tourism and recreation, social relationships associated with sports training and tactics, as well as the humanistic theories of Eastern martial arts. The authors have listed several national, continental, and international scientific organizations that unite representatives of the aforementioned disciplines. However, the authors’ main focus is on theoretical and organizational assumptions of the International Society for the Social Sciences of Sport, an organization founded in 2009.The society’s main objectives are to unite the particular social sciences of sport in one organized and scientific body (while maintaining the existing differences between the sciences); to enable the annual debate and exchange of views on the substantive and methodological matters; as well as to provide joint scientific publications connected with common work of the group and with the journal Physical Culture and Sport. Studies and Research. The authors discuss the research and publishing activities of the Polish Society for Social Sciences of Sport, introducing the organization as an example of any future organization that could cooperate with the International Society for the Social Sciences of Sport.

Intrusive luxation is a kind of traumatic injury characterized by an axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Its main causes are bicycle accidents, sports/recreational activities, and falls or collisions. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The correct diagnosis must be based on clinical and radiographic exams and it is crucial for decision-making in the treatment of injured patients. Currently, the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been widely used in orthodontics, restorative dentistry and implantology as well as in the diagnosis of complex dental trauma. This article reports a case of severe dental intrusion, in which the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed because of doubts generated after clinical examination and panoramic radiograph analyze. This case report confirmed that the CBCT is an important exam to correct diagnostic.

Category: Ankle, Arthroscopy, Sports, Trauma Introduction/Purpose: Chronic Achilles Tendon Rupture (CATR) is still a prevalent condition that includes neglected ruptures and re-ruptures after surgical treatment. CATR is responsible for marked functional impairment that usually requires surgical repair and an open procedure is traditionally performed. Endoscopic treatment has been described but there is no consensus in its role due to lack of quality papers. There is some experience with endoscopic transfer of Flexor Hallucis Longus (ETFHL) but most authors recommend this technique only on low demanding patients. The purpose of this paper is to present our results with ETFHL on athletic patients (recreational sports or high demanding job), contributing to the establishment of this technique. Methods: In this retrospective study, the authors report a series of 14 patients submitted to ETFHL, 12 patients due to Chronic Achilles rupture and 2 due to acute re-rupture, between May 2014 and January 2018. The mean follow-up period was 28 months (range 12 to 48 months). We measured pre and post-operative AOFAS score and Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS), along with post-operative heel rise height test. Results: In our 14 patients (11 male, 3 female) the mean age was 42 years old (range 23 to 59). There were 10 non-professional athletes and 4 high demand workers. The mean pre-operative AOFAS score was 61,1 (range 49 to 79) and ATRS was 11,6 (range 10 to 14). Post-operative results: the mean AOFAS score was 96 (ranging 90 to 100). All patients were able to do single foot heel rise with a mean height of 6,2 cm (range 5 to 9,6 cm). The mean ATRS was 95 (range 81 to 100). All patients showed complete functional recuperation of the gastrocnemius complex and returned to sports or labor activities at their previous level. One patient had transient hypoesthesia of tibial nerve. No other complications were registered. Conclusion: We present a small group of recreational athletes and high demand workers in which ETFHL for CATR showed good results with remarkable functional rehabilitation. Our results are comparable to open classic techniques, with less invasiveness and soft tissue complications. Our experience made us believe that ETFHL may play a role in the treatment of CATR, not only in low demand patients but also in the athletic population. Further studies are necessary to compare this technique with the open procedure to ensure its safety and efficacy.

The prevention of childhood obesity is a global priority. However, a range of complex social and environmental influences is implicated in the development of obesity and chronic disease that goes beyond the notion of individual choice. A population-level approach recognises the importance of access to and availability of healthy foods outside the home. These external food environments, in restaurants, supermarkets, and in school, or recreation and sports settings, are often characterised by energy dense, nutrient-poor food items that do not reflect the current nutritional guidelines for health. In addition, our understanding of these broader influences on nutritional intake is still limited. Particularly, lacking is a clear understanding of what constitutes the food environment, as well as robust measures of components of the food environment across different contexts. Therefore, this review summarises the literature on food environments of relevance to childhood obesity prevention, with a focus on places where children live, learn and play. Specifically, the paper highlights the approaches and challenges related to defining and measuring the food environment, discusses the aspects of the food environment unique to children and reports on environmental characteristics that are being modified within community, school and recreational settings. Results of the review show the need for a continued focus on understanding the intersection between individual behaviour and external factors; improved instrument development, especially regarding validity and reliability; clearer reported methodology including protocols for instrument use and data management; and considering novel study design approaches that are targeted at measuring the relationship between the individual and their food environment.

Management for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is connected with urbanization because 2/3 of T2DM-patients live in towns, that is reflected in the term «urban diabetes». The T2DM-onset and T2DM-progression are depended not only on complex interaction of modified and non-modified risk factors, but also and sociodemographic determinants (and its modification at municipal level allowed to neutralize the unfavorable risk factors of T2DM&obesity. The urban non-rational food, disturbance of circadian rhythm, low T2DM-pths compliance stimulate onset of obesity, deterioration of glycemic control, high postprandial hyperglycemia, glucolipotoxicity, epigenetic changes and negative metabolic memory. Meanwhile the city politics may affect to the non-modified T2DM-risk factors at carrying the municipal policy directed to the rational catering, mass sports, organization of recreational zones, decrease of excessive urban traffic, improvement of ecology. The paper considers the features of migration to urban, religious fasting, COVID at the urban T2DM. The «urban diabetes» must be considered at therapeutic education and affected to form the active T2DM-pts-management.

AbstractPosterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries commonly occur in association with participation in sporting or recreational activities or due to a direct trauma. Cartilage and meniscal lesions are prevalent in PCL-injured knees with increasing likelihood and severity based on extent and duration of trauma to the knee. As such, comprehensive diagnostics should be performed to ascertain all related pathology, and patients should be thoroughly educated regarding treatment options, likely sequelae including posttraumatic osteoarthritis, and associated outcomes. Treatments should address the joint as an organ, ensuring stability, alignment, and functional tissue restoration are optimized by the most efficient and effective means possible. Compliance with patient- and procedure-specific postoperative management protocols is critical for optimizing successful outcomes for these complex cases. The objectives of this review article are to highlight the likelihood and importance of osteochondral and meniscal pathology in the PCL-injured knee, and to provide the best current evidence regarding comprehensive evaluation and management for PCL-injured knees with cartilage and/or meniscal comorbidities.

Introduction The aim of this study was to review the clinical, radiological and patient-reported outcomes with the use of cup-cage construct for pelvic discontinuity at our institution. Methods 24 patients were identified at median 6-year (minimum 2 year, maximum 10 years) follow-up. 1 patient was converted to excision arthroplasty for infection. A further 3 patients required revision for instability but the cup-cage construct was not revised. Results We noted encouraging pain relief (mean WOMAC pain 85.6) and good functional outcome (mean WOMAC function 78.2, mean UCLA 5, mean OHS 78.6). Patient satisfaction with regards pain relief, function and return to recreational activities were noted to be good. Conclusions The cup-cage construct is a viable method of dealing with complex pelvic discontinuity. However, the failure rate due to loosening (4 cases) in this and other reports does prompt the need for further refinement of the technique and technology in this very challenging group of patients, as well as continued evaluation at the mid- and long-term so as to confirm the ongoing success of this method of reconstruction.

Background:Children’s achievement of recommendations for moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in afterschool programs (ASP) is complex. It is unclear what elements of the ASP environment influence children’s physical activity (PA). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of staff behaviors and ASP features (eg, organized activity, recreational equipment) to MVPA participation in youth attending ASPs.Methods:Data were collected in 12 ASPs in the Midwest. Staff behavior and child PA was measured using the System for Observing Play and Leisure Activity in Youth. The percentage of children’s MVPA was examined in relation to staff behaviors and ASP features. Results:Increases in MVPA were observed when staff were directly engaged in PA, verbally promoted MVPA, and when PA was organized and equipment was present. When 3 or more of these characteristics were present, the proportion of children engaged in MVPA increased by 25%−30%. Conversely, MVPA levels decreased when these characteristics were absent and when staff were attending to other ASP duties or were supervising. Conclusion:This study provides evidence about the specific staff behaviors that may influence higher proportions of youth being active during ASP and implies specific skills that need to be incorporated into ASP staff training.
