The article provides a brief insight into the history and reviews the current state of the health camps and health resorts in Russia. The conclusion is drawn that over the centuries Russia has developed traditions of health and resort recreation. The author suggests that some elements of the Soviet model of the relationship between the State and health resorts be extrapolated to the modern legal ground. The paper expresses the opinion about the possibility of using the legal mechanism of health resorts self-regulation. The legal status of health resorts is considered, the spectrum of functions and services performed by them is described. The author has classified services provided into basic (medical, temporary accommodation, nutrition) and supplementary (tourist, household, entertainment, sports and recreational, trade services) services. It has been proved that the specificity of the sanatorium-resort tourist product involves the complexity of the services it includes. Their integration and merger gives a synergistic effect, which leads to an increase in the efficiency of recreation and recovery as the main goal of tourism. The paper describes the system of requirements applied to regulate the work of health camps and health resorts. The paper demonstrates the importance of health resorts, determines their place in the tourist market, dwells on the specifics of health resorts in the sphere of tourism. The author focuses on the problems and contradictions of the legal regulation of activities of health resorts, ways of their minimization. Empirically, the research is founded on statistical data and the results of the author’s questionnaires used to question different parties involved . Analysis of the results of the survey showed that most respondents do not associate health resorts with tourism. However, under Russian and international regulations, health camps and health resorts are referred to medical tourism, the main specificity of which is that it involves medical treatment. The author provides arguments in favor of the necessity of systematic work aimed to explain obvious advantages of health tourism. Attention is drawn to the role of health camps and resorts in achieving the program goals of the State.

The High Tatra Mountains are the most prominent alpine center of recreation and sport in Slovakia. The development of this site dates back to the end of the 19th century. From the architectural point of view, the beginning of the 20th century, the 1920s, the 1930s and the post-war period of the 1960s and the 1970s should be considered the most interesting periods. At that time, the most important architectural works were created in the High Tatras, which in different ways dealt with the fundamental question: how to build in the mountains? Through the built results achieved in the region, it is now possible to study the success of this discussion.

The purpose of the article is to highlight the problem of using the potential of local territory in the processes of promoting local uniqueness as a consumer product. This study aimed at analysis and appraisal of the recreational resources of Kaniv for the organization of recreational activities in the planning strategies of the city as a recreational and tourist center. The study of the entire set of recreational resources of the city resulted in a constructive analysis and evaluation of the recreational benefits of the city’s resources. In the course of the survey, the directions of recreational environmental management in the city were determined in accordance with the programme of development of small Ukrainian cities. The analysis and assessment of the territory’s resources was conducted using integrated methodologies of studying recreational assets that take into account the evaluation methods of medical geography, recreology etc. Our study found that geomorphological, climatic, water, biotic, and landscape recreational natural resources are significant for the organization of recreational activity in the city and which, according to the estimation of recreational favourability, are highly conducive and convenient for both winter and summer recreation. A number of indicators of natural resources are of high value for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of diseases, including problems with respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous systems. The development of recreation and tourism in the city is also influenced by the existing historical and cultural resources, which include a whole set of archaeological, architectural and historical monuments, ethnographic features and crafts, museums and exhibitions, places and areas of significant events, places of life and creativity for prominent personalities, heroes and figures, etc. The socioeconomic resources and infrastructure of the city have a significant impact on the functioning of the recreational affairs, such as the state of the existing and prospective territorial organization, transport accessibility and level of its development, the public service and its condition (food establishments, residence, etc.). Nowadays, Kaniv is characterized by partly lower indicators of socio-economic development, business activity and, at the same time, enjoys a powerful natural, recreational and tourist, historical and cultural potential. Development of recreational and tourist activity in the city should be considered as a tool for increasing economic indicators (employment, business activity and growth of its financial indicators) and improvement of demographic indicators (reduction of labour migration, etc.), etc. The natural and cultural heritage of Kaniv is a source of socio-economic and human development through the integration of cultural monuments into the national tourist network. This can be achieved through the creation of new museum programmes, the development of a network of establishments based on authentic cuisine, traditional interiors, etc. It can further be promoted through creation of a network of ecological trails and routes which give access to the area’s unique natural ecosystems. Recreation and tourist activity can also be encouraged through popularization of environmental affairs, creation of programmes for development of the resort business, programmes of family recreation, development of different types of water, hiking, educational (culture, events, research, etc.) and eco-tourism, and the development of programmes and events in the field of sport fishing and hunting.

The paper determines the foundation of formation of a touristic recreational potential of Lviv region. Main contributing factors of development of the tourism industry of the region are investigated. It is established that the largest reserves of recreational resources are located in Drohobych, Zhovkva, Pustomyty, Sokal and Stryj districts. Small amounts of resources are concentrated in Brody, Zhidachiv, Kamenka-Buzka, Mykolayiv, Peremyshlyansk, Radekhiv, Sambir and Turka districts. Tourist routes of Lviv region were estimated. In particular, the most promising ones were evaluated, including the Golden Ring of the Boykivshchyna, the Russky Path – the old way through the Carpathians, Makivka – the mountain of the immortal glory of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen. The correlation-regression relationship between the indicators forming the tourist flows and the main components of the tourism development of the studied region was determined. The level and intensity of current usage of the potential of the region were estimated. SWOT-analysis of touristic and recreational potential of the region was carried out. The study of a touristic and recreational sector of Lviv region has made it possible to establish that its development depends primarily on the advantageous geographical location of the region, rich natural-resource and historical and cultural potential, and the development of touristic and recreational infrastructure. It was established that the region has all the necessary preconditions for the long-term development of cultural-cognitive, scientific-educational, religious, medical, hunting, ecological, business, sports and excursion types of the tourism industry. Particularly important and promising is the development of rural (green) tourism in the region. The development of touristic and recreational sphere of Lviv oblast depends, first and foremost, on the rational use of natural and cultural-historical resources, the reconstruction of sanatoriums and resorts, recreational and touristic establishments, the creation of material and technical base for the development of touristic and recreational industry, promotion of investment attraction, distribution of touristic product on the domestic and world markets and strengthening of international cooperation in the field of tourism and recreation.

The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of ballistic concentric-only half-squats (COHS) on subsequent squat-jump (SJ) performances at various rest intervals and to examine the relationships between changes in SJ performance and bilateral symmetry at peak performance. Thirteen resistance-trained men performed an SJ immediately and every minute up to 10 min on dual force plates after 2 ballistic COHS repetitions at 90% of their 1-repetition-maximum COHS. SJ peak force, peak power, net impulse, and rate of force development (RFD) were compared using a series of 1-way repeated-measures ANOVAs. The percent change in performance at which peak performance occurred for each variable was correlated with the symmetry index scores at the corresponding time point using Pearson correlation coefficients. Statistical differences in peak power (P = .031) existed between rest intervals; however, no statistically significant pairwise comparisons were present (P > .05). No statistical differences in peak force (P = .201), net impulse (P = .064), and RFD (P = .477) were present between rest intervals. The relationships between changes in SJ performance and bilateral symmetry after the rest interval that produced the greatest performance for peak force (r = .300, P = .319), peak power (r = –.041, P = .894), net impulse (r = –.028, P = .927), and RFD (r = –.434, P = .138) were not statistically significant. Ballistic COHS may enhance SJ performance; however, the changes in performance were not related to bilateral symmetry.

The purpose of this study was to compare the temporal profile of strong and weak subjects during ballistic and nonballistic potentiation complexes. Eight strong (relative back squat = 2.1 ± 0.1 times body mass) and 8 weak (relative back squat = 1.6 ± 0.2 times body mass) males performed squat jumps immediately and every minute up to 10 minutes following potentiation complexes that included ballistic or nonballistic concentric-only half-squat (COHS) performed at 90% of their 1 repetition maximum COHS. Jump height (JH) and allometrically scaled peak power (PPa) were compared using a series of 2 × 12 repeated measures analyses of variance. No statistically significant strength level main effects for JH (p = 0.442) or PPa (p = 0.078) existed during the ballistic condition. In contrast, statistically significant main effects for time existed for both JH (p = 0.014) and PPa (p < 0.001); however, no statistically significant pairwise comparisons were present (p > 0.05). Statistically significant strength level main effects existed for PPa (p = 0.039) but not for JH (p = 0.137) during the nonballistic condition. Post hoc analysis revealed that the strong subjects produced statistically greater PPa than the weaker subjects (p = 0.039). Statistically significant time main effects existed for time existed for PPa (p = 0.015), but not for JH (p = 0.178). No statistically significant strength level × time interaction effects for JH (p = 0.319) or PPa (p = 0.203) were present for the ballistic or nonballistic conditions. Practical significance indicated by effect sizes and the relationships between maximum potentiation and relative strength suggest that stronger subjects potentiate earlier and to a greater extent than weaker subjects during ballistic and nonballistic potentiation complexes.

Annotation:
Recreation planners at mountain resort communities must decide what types of recreation facilities and activities to provide in order to meet the diverse needs of the community. This thesis attempts to answer this question specifically for the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Determinants of participation in recreation are highly psychological. Thus, description of potential client groups must rely heavily upon attitudes, perceptions, and behavior. Theories of recreation serve as a useful planning tool helping planners understand peoples' recreation desires. A clear understanding of what people want recreation to accomplish for them is crucial when deciding what type of recreation facilities and activities to provide. However, as discovered when examining resort communities, it is not enough for planners just to take into account functional considerations when planning recreation facilities. Planners must be aware of the resort's image. People typically visit a resort community because they identify with its image. Images are based upon peoples' impressions of the entire resort community, including the facilities offered and both the natural and built environment. The challenge for the planner is to translate peoples' recreation desires into facilities that serve as concrete expressions of the resort's image. This thesis develops as framework to consider such a challenge. This is achieved by: a review of recreation theory and resort planning literature; review of resort communities similar to Whistler; informal interviews, and by a survey of Whistler property owners administered by the author. There are three main findings. First, recreation theory is an invaluable planning tool in helping planners decide what type of recreation facilities to provide. Second, recreation planners can help create a particular type of resort by providing facilities; however, the market eventually determines the resort's status. Third, more substantial market research is required to determine what type of resort the Municipality of Whistler should strive to become.

Annotation:
Landscape character refers to the general impression people have of an environment. The literature suggests that certain perceived dominant features of the environment create this impression. One of the ways to investigate the dominant features of a landscape has been a classification task where people are asked to classify a group of photographs of places into categories. Each of the categories is then investigated to determine the visible features that define that class. In a progressive classification task, this dissertation investigated the dominant features in resort environments and identified the hierarchical order among the dominant features discovered. The results revealed visual features in the following hierarchy: presence of water, presence of development, amount of development, type of water body present, presence of mountains. These features are often encountered in the landscape character and landscape aesthetics literature, a fact that verifies their importance in the perception of the landscape.

Sunday Trips, Summer Resorts and Winter Sports. Modern Tourism without Borders. The growing demand of urban societies for leisure activities and recreation in pure nature, caused by urbanisation and industrialisation, was met by picturesque landscapes in the surroundings of Vienna. In accordance with the prevailing Romantic ideas, these landscapes were first improved and developed by railways before being used increasingly intensively by the upper classes, soon to be followed by the middle and, ultimately, in part by the lower classes too. Tourism and leisure activities spread from Sundays only to the whole year, including winter time, and from the close vicinity of Vienna to the remotest parts of Lower Austria. On the eve of World War I, the vast majority of Lower Austria was more or less shaped by tourism in all its variety, be it summer resorts, day trips, alpinism, winter sports, urban tourism, or health tourism. Lower Austria thus became the core region of Austrian tourism, ranking above all areas of the Empire.

Mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBIs) from participation in sports and recreation activities have received increased public awareness, with many states and the federal government considering or implementing laws directing the response to suspected brain injury [1]. MTBIs may result from an impact or acceleration/deceleration of the head and leading to a brief alteration of mental status. Compared with adults, younger persons are at an increased risk for mTBIs with increased severity and prolonged recovery [2]. Football is one of the leading activities that individuals under the age of 19 will experience a mTBI during [3]. Therefore, football players are ideal candidates for monitoring head impact biomechanics and relating measurements to physiological alterations [4]. Little work has been performed investigating mTBIs in the youth population, thus little is known about the biomechanics involved with such injuries. The goal of this study is to characterize the head impact response in a youth population by instrumenting players on a youth football team.

Purpose – to reveal the scientific approach to the regional policy in the field of research, use and increase the recreational potential of the regions of Ukraine, creating an effective mechanism for the development of the recreational system of the region due to an in-depth study of the recreational system potential, the quality of the recreational environment and highlighting its special structure. As a sub-goal of the study was determined the identification of factors affecting the competitiveness of the recreational system of the regions, which will make it possible to clarify the directions of activities to increase the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sector of the economy of Ukraine. Findings – the paper proposes the mechanism of well-balanced mutual development of humanʼs health and recreational system management. Research limitations – the study addresses the problem of using recreational potential in such a way that, as a result of its use, the least damage is inflicted on the territory and on the population. To determine the direction of development were identified as “sore spots” groups of the recreational system. To solve this problem has been proposed a mechanism for the balanced development of the recreational system, which will allow: 1) to maintain and develop the existing recreational potential; 2) to increase the share of regional profits from the use of recreational potential. Methodology – the methodology and research tools are based on the methods of theoretical generalization, refinement of the conceptual apparatus, logical-structural modelling, scientific argumentation, and comparative analysis. Practical implications – the practical significance lies in the fact that the article reveals the problematic issues of recreation in Ukraine and suggests a mechanism for the management and sustainable development of the countryʼs recreational potential. The use of the proposed mechanism will lead to an increase in the incomes of the regions from the exploitation of the recreational potential and will create the conditions for the preservation of the recreational systems themselves. Originality/Value – the article value lies in the fact that it proposes a mechanism for the balanced development of the recreational system and the person in it; carried out the allocation of recreational management in a special function of the recreational system. The relationship between the development strategies of the recreational system and the assessment of the recreational competitiveness of the region is shown.
