Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAlthough they remain important areas of practice for women, aesthetic sports are the subject of very few sociological studies. Their interest lies in the fact that they differ from "ordinary" sporting activities, in that they maintain a strong proximity to cultural and artistic practices (Mennesson and Julhe, 2012). Physical appearance constitutes a central dimension of the practitioners' socialization, as well as of the judges' evaluations in these disciplines. Thus, the thesis focuses on the question of "bodily possibilities" (Schotté, 2016) offered to practitioners and judges, as expressed through their performance ratings.The ethnographic study has been carried out in two sports fields - twirling baton and rhythmic gymnastics - which are very similar in terms of motor and regulatory aspects. However, the two disciplines promote differentiated configurations of models of gender (Connell and Messershmidt, 2015). This can be explained by a discrepancy in their social and gendered recruitment and by a differentiated degree of institutionalization. While some coaches and judges attempt to emancipate from these spaces' aesthetic and gender norms, they never succeed in overturning the established heterosexual gender order. In this way, our work brings to light "the new clothes of male domination" (De Singly, 1993) in spaces historically apprehended as paths to empowerment for women

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleTristan Tzara's"cosmopolitan vocation" is studied on the basis of the set of his writings spanning from his early works in Rumania (1912) to the provisory fading of his name far from the stir of Paris literary life. However his correspondence and many theoretical works written later than 1925 are also taken into account for they constitute a critical historiography of Dada written by Tzara himself. All these documents support a study coming in seven stages : the Rumanian premises, the stakes of Tzara's activism in Zurich, his connections with futurism (both Italian and Russian), with France, with Germany, then the Belgian and Hungarish dada-constructivism, the Black world. We show how Tzara, coming the turmoil of an archaic world, turned towards various streams of the European contestation. He moved from a literary to a lived cosmopolitanism, supported by the historical convergence in Zurich, right during World War 1, of all the trends of modernity : cubism, futurism, expressionism, and so on. .

Many fields of appliance are still uncovered, including games, seldom taken seriously, although they have provided major theoretical arguments for linguistics and other scientific fields. Semiotics concepts and tools prove their efficiency when applied to gaming expression, if only they are used for their pliability rather than taken as norms. In these conditions, the generative model guides the « ludologist » semiotic analysis, from the identification of perceptive, figurative and narrative syntaxes, to the axiological synthesis. The parameters of the relationship between the player and his game can be considered. The ludic text is the concrete result of strategic and passionate projections. Each game offers the experimentation of a form of life, which can give elements of explanation for individual and collective identities that are observed around gaming practices. The study of games, contests, and matches, shows that their authors, the players, can develop a style, even a revolting or subversive expression against this form of life. If game creators are so little known, is this because the perenniality of their work depends on its collective appropriation ? The semiotic approach, conducted here on more than one hundred and fifty games, contributes to renew, beyond typological considerations, the way of understanding gaming expression among other social languages

The beauty and elegance revealed in the way Cioran uses the French language cannot be denied. What, however, can be questioned is the blackness/darkness supposed to characterise his philosophical thinking. It is true that the most widely known - being most frequently cited - aphorisms of the author of the Drawn and Quartared are about nothingness, suicide, the shadowy side of human existence. Yct, when we start reading Cioran without having presumed anything and without narrowing ourselves down to his most renowned quotations we will discover a great ambivalence in his works. The nihilistic Cioran will enter then the anthologies of joy, of nostalgia for the Paradise Lest, of ordinary love showing itself in his anecdotes, humour, opcnness to spot every little sign of life. Thus, this thesis has three objectives in view. Lt should reveal the multiple ambivalence in Cioran's writings. It is supposed to unmask the intended ambiguity of an iconoclast whose constant provoking and exaggerating cover an unusual tenderness and compassion for the human being. Finally, the thesis aims at emphasising the energetic side of Cioran's philosophical thinking and showing that the last word of the " Pessimist" is not in Negation

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis proposes a socio-historical approach of excellence in mountaineering, from the creation of the British Alpine Club, the first alpine club in the world, founded in 1856, up until the beginning of the 21st century. Excellence is defined by three relations: a relation to the activity of mountaineering, that is, the legitimate ways of practicing this activity, a relation to oneself, that is, the ways in which excellent mountaineers (the “great mountaineers”) see themselves and consider their biographical trajectories, and a relation to others, that is, the ways in which these mountaineers apprehend and distinguish themselves from the other users of mountains and from non-mountaineers. From the study of the discourses of the elite of British and French mountaineering, we seek to understand how a “spirit of mountaineering” (a mentality as well as an “esprit de corps”, an ethos, and a set of ethical principles at the foundation of excellence) has been created, transmitted, has travelled between countries and has been maintained over time. This “spirit” is the basis of a sense of belonging, even of a collective identity. Centered on Britain, as the cradle of mountaineering and the place where an original form of excellence, still perceived today as specific, was initially codified, this study considers French mountaineering, of later appearance, as a comparative point of reference, useful to point out a phenomenon of diffusion of the British conception of excellence. The issue of the historical genesis of a “great mountaineering” on the long-term scale doubles up with the issue of the biographical making of the “great mountaineer”, considered on the short-term scale of the biographical trajectory. By doing so, it is a work of denaturalization of excellence, seen as a historical and social construct, which is undertaken. The study of the three dimensions of excellence (as a relation to activity, to oneself, and to the others) is carried on in the first place with the help of an unusual material: a corpus of 62 autobiographies of mountaineers. Its use is backed with methodological observations regarding the conditions of its sociological validity. In order to consider these discourses within their historical and social frames of enunciation, other materials are used: 16 interviews, two databases (one of them used to carry out a prosopography), the articles and necrologies of the journals of the selective alpine clubs of the two countries

We focalize our analysis on the social interactions and the socializing processes which characterize the high level athlete's social trajectories. In order to characterise those trajectories, we focalize on the successive stages of the athletic career which are qualified in the light of a vocational inculcation and a conversion to a particular project of life. To understand those social processes, we analysis the configurations which are less or more likely to assist the construction and the activation of an habitus defined as a dispositional system less or more adapted to the objective reality of the career. Breaking the myths of the sportive success we also analyse the high level athlete's social distribution according to their class, sex and race. Indeed, families participate to the transmission and the development of the sportive capital and their availability is a discriminating factor for the development of the sportive career. The analyse of the gender regime which takes place in the world of the high level athletic competition also reveals some processes of segregation and social distinction which have an influence on the sportive involvement. The world of the high level performance is also characterised by some processes of racial identification which define several communities which boundaries are less or more vague and permeable. In this, the involvement in the athletic career is sometimes coloured of some ethnical claims and a stigma reversal

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study examines the construction of the figure of the artist in modem Greece. Following the foundation of the Greek state in 1830, artistic discourse and practices are largely shaped by the appropriation of western European models. In this context, I argue that the establishment and progressive transformation of the cultural conception of « the artist » is animated by multi-Ievel tensions between art and craft, between national identity and European belonging, between modem and ancient art, and between the community and the individual. I begin by analyzing the technical and theoretical education offered by the first artistic institution of the State, the School of Arts. The School aspires to the creation of a national art, largely inspired by ancient Greek art, a project that legitimated the artistic profession against the background of Nation-State formation. I then tum to the representational framework by which artistic activity was conceived and examine in particular the notions of vocation, genius, and originality. These essential concepts can be seen to structure the biographies of artists and the « artistic short stories » featured in the literary journals of the period, as well as the discourses of aesthetics and art criticism. I seek to show how the norms and ideals of ancient art are severely undermined, from the 1880s onwards, by the quest for originality and individuality. This new valorisation of the artistic subject, who expresses his singularity in the work of art, puts into question the conception of the artist as a representative of the national community, which had been promoted by the School of Arts
