AbstractThe current study aimed to assess the impact of sports participation on undergraduate admissions decisions at universities, colleges, and conservatoires in the United Kingdom. A between subjects, experimental design was employed. Participants from providers of undergraduate courses completed an on-line experiment that required them to make a decision on one of three randomly assigned undergraduate applications written for the study: one without sport participation included (control) and two modified versions with sport participation included (one for team sports and one for individual sports). Participants were asked to decide whether to make an offer or reject the application. Significant differences were found between the control and sport-modified applications for one and two grade differences overall, as participation in sport elevated the undergraduate application. As this study was delimited to sport participation, the findings cannot be generalized to other extra-curricular activities. Future researchers could extend this investigation by examining the economic and social impact of participation in sports at secondary school post-University.

Sports coaching is a very important factor for advancing the world of sports. Without properly systemized scouting, the achievement stage will not be maximally achieved. This research aims to identify the sports talents of students at Wonorejo I/312 Primary School Surabaya and the dominant sports among the students. This quantitative research employed exploratory descriptive method. The research population included ten 6th grade students. Data obtained using 10 test types from Sport Search Aussie Sport Australia were identified and analysed. Based on the ranks, the results revealed the following sports talents: Diving, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Indoor Cricket, and Powerlifting, which can potentially be developed.

The relationships between sport sciences and sports are complex and changeable, and it is not clear how they reciprocally influence each other. By looking at the relationship between sport sciences and the “new” (~30-year-old) sport of triathlon, together with changes in scientific fields or topics that have occurred between 1984 and 2006 (278 publications), one observes that the change in the sport itself (eg, distance of the events, wetsuit, and drafting) can influence the specific focus of investigation. The sport-scientific fraternity has successfully used triathlon as a model of prolonged strenuous competition to investigate acute physiological adaptations and trauma, as support for better understanding cross-training effects, and, more recently, as a competitive sport with specific demands and physiological features. This commentary discusses the evolution of the scientific study of triathlon and how the development of the sport has affected the nature of scientific investigation directly related to triathlon and endurance sport in general.

Introduction: The Canadian C-Spine rule (CCR) was validated for use by paramedics to selectively immobilize stable trauma patients. However, the CCR “Dangerous Mechanism” is highly prevalent in sports. Our objective was to compare the CCR performance in sport-related vs. non-sport-related injuries and describe sport-related mechanisms of injury. Methods: We reviewed data from the prospective paramedic CCR validation and implementation studies in 7 Canadian cities, which already included identification of sport-related injuries. A single trained reviewer further categorized mechanisms of injury using a pilot-tested standardized form, with the aid of a sport medicine physician in 15 ambiguous cases. We compared the CCR's recommendation to immobilize sport-injured versus non-sport-injured patients using chi-square and relative risk statistics with 95% confidence intervals. Results: There were 201 amateur sport-injuries among the 5,978 patients. Sport-injured patients were younger (mean age 36.2 vs. 42.4) and more predominantly male (60.5% vs 46.8%) than non-sport-injured patients. Paramedics did not miss any c-spine injuries when using the CCR. Although cervical spine injury rates were similar between sport (2/201; 1.0%) and non-sport injured patients (47/5,777; 0.8%), the absolute number of sport-related injuries was very small. Although CCR recommended immobilization equally between the two groups (46.4% vs 42.5% p = 0.29; RR 1.17 95%CI 0.87-1.57), the reason for immobilization was more likely to be a dangerous mechanism in sport injuries (68.6% vs 54.5%, p = 0.012). Although we observed a wide range of mechanisms, the most common dangerous mechanism responsible for immobilization in sport was axial load. Conclusion: The CCR identified all significant c-spine injuries in a cohort of patients assessed and transported by paramedics. Although an equal proportion of sport and non-sports related injuries were immobilized, a dangerous mechanism was most often responsible for immobilization in sport-related cases. These findings do not address the potential impact of using the CCR to evaluate all sport-related injuries in collegiate or pro athletes evaluated by sport medicine therapists and physicians, as these patients are rarely assessed by paramedics or transported to a hospital. It does support the safety and benefit of using the CCR in sport-injured patients for which paramedics are called.

Introduction. Infrared thermography or thermovision is increasingly applicable in sport and sport rehabilitation. Thermic forms, thermic imprints, temperature and isotherm distribution, temperature gradient change are the terms that are more and more often met in sport medicine and medicine, in general. Case report. We presented two examples of thermovision application: in detection of muscle injury and changes of the feet exposed to low temperature. In the first example the thermovision method was used for analyzing heat distribution in an athlete with back muscles injury. With a special original method of local cooling the place and degree of injury was precisely localized and determined, respectively, regardless high environmental temperature. In the second case the thermovision method was for the first time applied in a runner whose feet was exposed to low temperature. Significant hypothermia of the feet was detected by the method and appropriate treatment was performed. Thanks to this the athlete had no harmful consequences. Conclusion. Thermovision is fast and efficient in detecting different kind of injuries, so its increased use in the future can be expected.

Abstract The purpose of the study is to review literature for scientific studies about application and effectiveness of yoga in rehabilitation & prevention of sports injuries in athletes participating in competitive sports. The author conducted a comprehensive search of open access articles of major scientific databases including PuBMed, SCIENCEDIRECT, EBSCO, SCOPUS, Web of Science, etc.. No significant scientific studies were found relating to the application of yoga in rehabilitation and prevention of sport injury. Four studies were selected based on inclusion criteria. One pilot study has included yoga as part of sport conditioning and has investigated use of yoga for flexibility and incidence of non-contact injuries in baseball athletes. The other studies include a clinical example that has used yoga as part of the seven point program in injury treatment of elite football players, an intervention that has included yoga in high-volume training program and a randomised control trial that has evaluated effect of yoga in flexibility and balance among athletes. Conclusions: There is scope for further studies to examine the effect of yoga as an adjunct intervention in rehabilitation of select sports injuries for athletes in competitive sport. There is potential to include sport-specific yoga programs in athletic training for prevention of non-contact injuries.

Good governance in sport is an essential condition for the Olympic and sports movement in order to sustain its autonomy. Several sports organizations have established special regulations and codes of conduct, which aim to improve the self-government of sports activities. Self-regulation and good practice are essential for maintaining and developing good sports governance. However, recent surveys seem to indicate that the principles of good governance in sport introduced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have not yet been adequately taken into account if we refer to the standards of accountability, transparency and democracy that need to be promoted with priority. At the same time, the sports movement and the governing bodies of international sport face new challenges caused by the evolution of sport, in particular the significant growth of the commercial sector and the growing financial stake, which can create fertile ground for corrupt practices. In this context, the knowledge and correct application of the principles of good governance in sport are important factors in ensuring the efficient management of sports entities.

Unfortunately, as technologies grow, some people have lost their motivation to keep up with their health by neglecting their physical activities like sports, outdoor games, etc. There are less people willing to step outside to do physical activities especially those which requires companions or members. We cannot deny the fact that there are still people who are willing to come out and do sports in a group. However, most of the time they do not have enough members to conduct the sport. This situation can lead to discouragement and stopping them from doing any more sports activity just because of insufficient team member. The Sports Team Finder is a mobile application that helps the students in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) to reach other people who has the same intention, i.e., to get team members. Students can use this application to find team members for team-oriented games such as basketball, football, netball, etc. The aim is to design an application where it motivate users to engage other people through sports and meeting new friends along the way. The application is able to function properly and successfully gather users with similar interest together. It has shown that the application has caused an improvement of sport involvement among students in UTHM.

Abstract Popularity trends of the NFL and NBA are fun and interesting for casual fans while also of critical importance for advertisers and businesses with an interest in the sports leagues. Sports leagues have clear and distinct seasons and these have a major impact on when each league is most popular. To measure the popularity of each league, we used search data from Google Trends that gives real-time and historical data on the relative popularity of search words. By using search volume to measure popularity, the times of year, a sport is popular relative to its season can be explained. It is also possible to forecast how sport leagues are trending relative to each other. We compared and discussed three different univariate models both theoretically and empirically: the trend plus seasonality regression, Holt- Winters Multiplicative (HWMM), and Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) models to determine the popularity trends. This article explores the socially constructed space of Wikipedia and how the process and structure of Wikipedia enable it to act both as a vehicle for communication between sport fans and to subtly augment existing public narratives about sport. As users create article narratives, they educate fellow fans in relevant social and sport meanings. This study analyzes two aspects of Wikipedia for sports fans, application of statistical information and connecting athletes with other sports figures and organizations, through a discourse analysis of article content and the discussion pages of ten sample athletes. These pages of retired celebrity athletes provide a means for exploring the multidirectional production processes used by the sport fan community to celebrate recorded events of sporting history in clearly delineated and verifiable ways, thus maintaining the sport fans’ community social values.

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the locus of control and the sports manager behavior levels of the students studying in the department of sports management of the faculty of sport sciences. The study was conducted by the correlational survey method, one of the quantitative research designs. Population of the study consists of students studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades in the departments of sports management of the faculties of sport sciences from various state and private universities. The sample of the study conducted using the nonprobability sampling method consists of 718 sports management students (male = 452, female = 266). In the study, data were collected with the sports manager behavior scale and the internal-external locus of control scale. Data were analyzed by means of analysis of normality, t-test, one-way Anova test and multiple regression tests. The study found a significant difference between students' gender, grade levels, university type and sports manager behaviors. There was no significant effect of internal-external locus of control levels on sports manager behaviors. In conclusion, it was found that the students' sport manager behavior and internal-external locus of control levels were quite high, and female students have higher sports manager behavior levels compared to male students, and the higher the level of grade, the higher the levels of sports manager behavior.

The popularity of smartphones has led to the creation of sport-related mobile applications in the areas of games, fitness, information, and events for sport consumers. The main purpose of this study was to examine why college students use sport-related mobile applications and what benefits they received from their usage. The study employed the Motivation Scale for Sport Online Consumption and the Technology Acceptance Model to understand this usage in more detail. Using a mixed-method approach, the study revealed that college students identified fanship, convenience, and information as primary motives for using their sport-related mobile applications. For college students who are sport fans, supporting their fanship through these applications represents an important aspect of their lifestyle. Sport managers and sport application developers will benefit from understanding users’ intentions and motives as the market for sport-related applications continues to grow.

The study of anxiety, specifically its relations with sociodemographic variables, has been fruitfull in sport psychology research. This study aimed to investigate athletes’ sport anxiety regarding differences in gender and sport played. An application of structural equation modeling was made, with 601 Portuguese athletes. From them 172 (28.6%) were female and 429 (71.4%) were male. They competed in a variety of individual (e.g., athletics, climbing, orienteering, surfing, swimming, tennis; 42.6%) and team sports (e.g., basketball, handball, rugby, soccer, volleyball; 57.4%). Participants’ age ranged from 12 to 47 years (M = 17.44 years; SD = 4.99). After testing the measurement invariance of the first and second-order models, across gender and type of sport (individual vs. team), latent mean comparisons were investigated and Cohen’s d (1988) statistic was computed to obtain the corresponding effect sizes (Kline, 2016). Significant differences were detected between male and female athletes and between individual and team sports. Female and individual sports athletes presented higher levels of general sports anxiety. The results of this research provided evidence that anxiety is appraised differently by athletes based on their gender and type of sport.

The critical power (CP) is mathematically defined as the power-asymptote of the hyperbolic relationship between power output and time-to-exhaustion. Physiologically, the CP represents the boundary between the steady-state and nonsteady state exercise intensity domains and therefore may provide a more meaningful index of performance than other well-known landmarks of aerobic fitness such as the lactate threshold and the maximal O2 uptake. Despite the potential importance to sports performance, the CP is often misinterpreted as a purely mathematical construct which lacks physiological meaning and only in recent years has this concept begun to emerge as valid and useful technique for monitoring endurance fitness. This commentary defines the basic principles of the CP concept, outlines its importance to high-intensity exercise performance, and provides an overview of the current methods available for its assessment. Interventions including training, pacing and prior exercise can be used to alter the parameters of the power-time relationship. A future challenge lies in optimizing such interventions in order to positively affect the parameters of the power-time relationship and thereby enhance sports performance in specific events.

The social media application Snapchat has ascended rapidly, quickly becoming the third most utilized platform of millennials with a valuation as high as US$19 billion. A national survey of 125 respondents revealed that people using Snapchat to follow sports devote roughly the same amount of time to the platform as Facebook and more time than Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest. Despite finding other platforms better for sport information seeking, relaxation, and interaction, respondents still reported using Snapchat as a main platform for facilitating sport fandom. Both sport fandom and identification bolstered likelihood of using Snapchat for sport-related interactions. Implications for communication and sport scholars and industry professionals are offered.

Background: Sport specialization is increasingly common in many youth sports and has been linked to increased injury, overtraining, and burnout. Several organizations have developed safe sport recommendations in an effort to mitigate injury risk. Healthcare providers (HCPs) can be a source of education for parents and athletes on safe sports practices, but the awareness, confidence, and use of these recommendations among HCPs who work with youth athletes is limited. Hypothesis/Purpose: To evaluate the awareness, confidence, and use of sports specialization and safe sport recommendations of HCPs who work with pediatric athletes. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was developed to assess pediatric HCP awareness of, confidence in, and clinical use of sports specialization recommendations. The survey included 1) personal demographics, 2) professional demographics, 3) knowledge and perceptions of sport specialization, 4) awareness, confidence, and use of recommendations, and 5) HCP program training and professional development background specific to sports specialization. Survey links were sent by email to 5000 secondary school athletic trainers and 297 PRiSM members during October 2019-January 2020. The survey was open for 4 weeks, with a reminder email sent after 2 weeks. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: The survey was accessed by 620 HCPs (access rate=11.7%) and completed by 508 HCPs (completion rate=81.9%). Respondents (279 females, 228 males; age=37.2±10.5 years) included athletic trainers (74.5%, n=379), physicians (16.9%, n=86, physical therapists (6.7%, n=35), nurse practitioners (1.0%, n=5), and physician assistants (0.1%, n=4) with 11.2±9.1 years of experience providing care to pediatric athletes. Three-fourths of respondents (n=373) were aware of recommendations from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, but fewer were aware of those from the American Academic of Pediatrics (42.3%, n=212), American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (40.3%, n=200), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (45.2%, n=225), International Olympic Committee (14.2%, n=69), Major League Baseball (30.6%, n=151), USA Hockey (13.6%, n=66), and National Basketball League (9.3%, n=45). The percentage of respondents who were confident in knowledge of (Table 1) and used (Table 2) each organization’s recommendation are provided in the tables. Table 3 presents the degree to which various reasons limit the use of sports specialization recommendations. Conclusion: Healthcare providers are aware of sport specialization recommendations and believe they are associated with decreased risk of injury. However, barriers to applying the recommendations most cited were the inability of parents and children to change specialization behaviors. Modern video and computer games can involve considerable physical activity and social competition and are thus a suitable subject for the application of sport psychology theories and intervention methods. A brief overview of some of the existing research from other fields on video and serious interactive games is presented. The advantages of studying competition, cooperation and exercise in video game play include application of existing theories to new areas, methodological research advantages, and new applied opportunities for practitioners. Sport and exercise psychologists are encouraged to research the long-term viability of studying important sport and exercise psychology topics such as aggression, teamwork and psychological skills using video game and related technologies.

Marketing plays a key role in society as a whole. Sports marketing encompasses all processes for creating and delivering value and transmitting its message, starting from the specific conditions in which relationships between market players are formed and how it affected the success of sport clubs and sporting events. In a large number of sports clubs, there is still no systematic application of marketing. The paper deals with the application of marketing in Dubrovnik sport clubs s been developed. The survey was conducted by a deep interview with leading people of the most successful Dubrovnik sport clubs and with the Secretary of the Dubrovnik Association of Sports. The causes of non-implementation of planning and systematic marketing application in the sports facilities in Dubrovnik, current marketing activity, problems encountered and the guidelines for a better understanding of the importance of marketing in sports were presented thereto. The research has confirmed that there is no systematic application of marketing in Dubrovnik sports facilities and that marketing activity activities are mostly reduced to numerous forms of marketing communication with the target market segments. Management awareness of the importance of sports marketing is developed, club leaders and Association point out the exigency to establish marketing departments within clubs, but in practice this has not yet been realized. Along with lack of financial resources, insufficient understanding of marketing as a business philosophy is one of the main reasons for not applying systematic marketing practices to sports facilities. To successfully manage marketing in sports facilities, it is crucial to engage sports marketing professionals/managers, but at the same time keep in mind that this is a club comprehensive initiative that drives its vision, mission, and strategic planning.

CSR has been reviewed extensively in the realm of professional sports, but scholarship related to CSR and its application in collegiate sports is lacking. For the plethora of good that the NCAA has done over the years, it is also an entity filled with paradoxes. Stakeholder theory serves as the foundation for discussing CSR. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the concept of CSR and its relationship to college sports in the United States. This article examines the organizational structure of the NCAA, its functionality, and the trappings of its fiscal operations. In addition, an analysis of the role CSR plays in the shaping of social responsibility and accountability in collegiate sport is presented.

The main motivation for this study lies in the importance sports have in our nowadays society and, more specifically, in the role sport organizations play as merging factor between sports and social relations. The main objective of this study is the analysis of the variables that have an effect on the decision of an individual to become a member of a given sport club. The proposed methodology of using a heteroskedastic binary choice model, and its application to a data set obtained from the survey of Spanish sport habits collected in the year 2005, allows us to be able to obtain a detailed analysis of the effect the different variables set have on the probability to become a member of a sport club. Results show that the demand of a sport club membership is closely related to individual characteristics such as gender, level of education, physical fitness and if the individual is an athlete or not.

Substantiation of the pedagogical value and determination of the general principles for the integration of sport training and educational process of highly qualified student-athletes enrolled in coach training programs. Research methods. Theoretical analysis, comparison, modeling and generalization. Results and discussion. Currently, the increasing importance of non-formal education is one of the essential trends in the modern system of higher education. It is one of the forms of implementing the concept of lifelong education. The analysis of top world practice and domestic scientific resources revealed a new value aspect of sports activity. This is non-formal education of future coaches based on their sport experience and active involvement in sport activities. We have demonstrated that the use of sport situations and conditions for coach training at a sports-related university creates a new concept of non-formal education, which is professional education by professional sports. We revealed and substantiated general principles for delivery of the concept of the comprehensive integration of sport training and educational process at sports-related universities. Conclusion. Intersection of expected outcomes of mastering of coach training programs and acquiring of knowledge, skills and labor effects, which are essential for highly qualified athletes, contains enormous educational potential for sport activities of student-athletes studying at a sports-related university. At the same time, the major problem of delivery of this potential is development and application of the organizational and pedagogical model of comprehensive integration of educational process and sport training at a particular university.

The article presents initial, partial outputs of the research focused on analysis of „sport stars“ placement in a minor top-level sport – swimming. The study is theoretically grounded in concepts of Pierre Bourdieu (social field and political philosophy of sport) and Howard S. Becker (art worlds). It follows other studies dealing with roles of popular personalities – celebrities or stars – in sports or broader society and examines possibilities of application of the star concept in the sub-field of non-medialised sport. Using outputs of interview with competitive swimmers the article describes specific way of construction of sport stars in view of athletes themselves. Two dimensions are identified: objective (sport club environment and family) and subjective one (personality traits). Concerning the position of stars in sport sub-fields it adds, that so far as the stars fulfil the notion of their fellow swimmers they are seen as bearers of authentic sport ideal with the high symbolical capital. Otherwise, they are criticised by the others or even rejected.

Interest in the discuss sport are progressively increases in the years from people of different age groups. The article comments on environmental issues related to these sports and environmental recommendations for their application. The combined efforts of various institutions are needed to increase the popularity and awareness of sport that can be realized under optimal environmental conditions and does not impair its environmental sustainability. This requires an actual environmental policy and education aimed at future development in this direction.

AbstractThe author points out that in contemporary competitive, record oriented, professional, spectacular, top-level sport, elite sport, marketability sport or Olympic sport – whose beginnings should be dated to the turn of the 19th and the 20th century – mistaken decisions, which inhibited development of the abovementioned forms of sport, took place.Primarily it was restricted to circle of financially well-off gentlemen, women’s participation was forbidden, participation of professional athletes was also forbidden to a considerable degree (and during the Olympic games – totally). The need of commercialization of sport was negated and definite forms of doping were banned.When talented persons from the lower social strata – workingmen (as well as women) and athletes earning money by practicing sport – were permitted to participate in sports competition and commercialization of sport was accepted, sport started to develop more rapidly and it became more attractive and spectacular. It contributed to intensification of investment in sport, to enrichment and modernization of its infrastructure, to optimization of research, technologization, production of better equipment and a considerable increase in athletes’ and coaches’ remuneration.Another radical qualitative leap in sport can be contributed to by abolition of a ban on doping. It is going to implicate necessary and competent medical and pharmacological care, to facilitate maximization of results, to increase interest in sports spectacles. Skillful application of doping is going to release athletes’ considerable capacity, endurance and proficiency potentials which have not been used yet.

Abstract In the last thirty years, an increasing interest in sport sciences regarding the analysis of expert athletes’ gaze behavior has become apparent. This narrative review provides an overview of the use of eye tracking systems in high-performance sports from 1987 to 2016. A systematic search of the PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and WebofScience databases was conducted. The search was performed using the keywords eye tracking, eye movement, gaze behavior/patterns, and visual search strategies in combination with high-performance sports, elite athletes, high-class athletes, sport experts, and top-athletes. It yielded a total of 86 studies of which almost half were conducted computer-based or in front of a screen. Most studies dealt with the analysis of gaze behavior during dead ball situations while also focusing on differences between expert athletes and novices. More high-quality intervention studies are essential to determine if there are ideal gaze strategies and, if yes, how it is possible to learn/implement these.

The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to examine differences in change of direction (COD) performance and asymmetries between team-sports while considering the effects of sex and sport; (2) to evaluate the relationship between linear speed, COD completion time, and COD deficit. A total of 115 (56 males, 59 females) athletes active in cricket, soccer, netball, and basketball performed the 505 for both left and right limbs and a 10-m sprint test. All team-sports displayed directional dominance (i.e., faster turning performance/shorter COD deficits towards a direction) (p ≤ 0.001, g = −0.62 to −0.96, −11.0% to −28.4%) with, male cricketers tending to demonstrate the greatest COD deficit asymmetries between directions compared to other team-sports (28.4 ± 26.5%, g = 0.19–0.85), while female netballers displayed the lowest asymmetries (11.0 ± 10.1%, g = 0.14–0.86). Differences in sprint and COD performance were observed between sexes and sports, with males demonstrating faster 10-m sprint times, and 505 times compared to females of the same sport. Male soccer and male cricketers displayed shorter COD deficits compared to females of the same sport; however, female court athletes demonstrated shorter COD deficits compared to male court athletes. Large significant associations (ρ = 0.631–0.643, p < 0.001) between 505 time and COD deficit were revealed, while trivial, non-significant associations (ρ ≤ −0.094, p ≥ 0.320) between COD deficit and 10-m sprint times were observed. In conclusion, male and female team-sport athletes display significant asymmetries and directional dominance during a high approach velocity 180° turning task. Coaches and practitioners are advised to apply the COD deficit for a more isolated measure of COD ability (i.e., not biased towards athletes with superior acceleration and linear speed) and perform COD speed assessments from both directions to establish directional dominance and create a COD symmetry profile.

Due to the broad spectrum of physical characteristics necessary for success in field sports, numerous training modalities have been used develop physical preparedness. Sports like rugby, basketball, lacrosse, and others require athletes to be not only strong and powerful but also aerobically fit and able to recover from high-intensity intermittent exercise. This provides coaches and sport scientists with a complex range of variables to consider when developing training programs. This can often lead to confusion and the misuse of training modalities, particularly in the development of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. This review outlines the benefits and general adaptations to 3 commonly used and effective conditioning methods: high-intensity interval training, repeated-sprint training, and small-sided games. The goals and outcomes of these training methods are discussed, and practical implementations strategies for coaches and sport scientists are provided.

Purpose: to determine influence of information technologies in sport-oriented physical education on technical fitness of students, practicing football indoors. Material: in the researches students (boys - n=40) of 18-20 years’ age participated. Standard tests on physical condition were used. For determination of motor skills and abilities we used: juggling with ball; kick in pre-set sector of goal; shuttle run 4 x 10 meters with dribbling; kick for distance. Results: structural model of sport-oriented students’ physical education with application of information technologies has been formed. In the model all students are trained in sport-oriented academic groups by chosen kinds of sports (motor functioning). Such approach envisages holistic form of program material construction and unified algorithm of students’ progress assessment. Conclusions: the wholeness of sport-oriented physical education’s functioning is ensured at the account of application of information technologies. It permits to optimize motor skills’ training process. In this case single form of building of program material is created.

Whilst equestrian sport science research has expanded over recent years, and technologies to positively impact training and performance have been developed, long-standing traditions and experiential learning in the racing industry still appear to impede the integration of sport science knowledge. This study used semi-structured interviews to investigate the perceptions of eleven national hunt and flat-based racehorse trainers to determine the current status of sport science integration within the racing industry, the perceived barriers to its uptake, and areas where trainers sought further knowledge. Three key higher order themes emerged from the interviews: the current training and monitoring principles for health and fitness of racehorses, trainers’ attitudes toward sport science research, and areas for potential future research and integration of sports science in training. Subjective methods grounded in personal experience were found to form the basis of racehorse training principles, with the application of sport science minimal, namely due to poor integration strategies. Negative connotations arising from a general lack of understanding of the application of knowledge and a scepticism toward adapting already successful principles, as well as pressure from industry stakeholders, appear to create barriers to sport science uptake. Trainers felt a stronger evidence base emphasising performance benefits is needed to overcome these. Where trainers identified areas of research potential, many studies had already been undertaken, highlighting the necessity for effective dissemination strategies to demonstrate how research could apply to industry practice. Increased educational initiatives to showcase technology and improve trainer understanding and application of currently available sport science knowledge is also warranted.

As sport has become an integral part of society, it has also become a tool for diplomacy around the world. The purpose of this study is to introduce a sports diplomacy model and identify “the critical abilities” for converting sport soft power tools into resources for diplomatic outcomes. The data for this research comprise 30 online surveys completed by international experts in the fields of sports and public diplomacy. The responses were qualitatively analyzed using the fuzzy Delphi method (FDM). After running two rounds of fuzzy Delphi, two main strategies for sports diplomacy emerged—maintaining “official and sports diplomacy solidarity” and using sport figures as “competent cultural ambassadors.” The proposed model includes the most applicable sports diplomacy resources, the most expected diplomatic outcomes, and the major conversion tools (skillful strategies) in the viewpoint of sports and public diplomacy experts. The application of the model finds that states can expect diplomatic outcomes if appropriate sports diplomacy resources and conversion strategies are implemented in an orderly, innovative and accurate manner.

Considering the wide use of Serious Games in application fields like cognitive learning, health education and rehabilitation and the recent developments of sensor and interface technology it is surprising that applications to motor learning in sport are rare. The aim of this study is to examine whether a specific learning effect can be elicited by training with a commercial exergame (Nintendo Wii Sports Resort). A sample of 23 young club basketball players attended either a virtual training (VT) or a real training (RT) of basketball throws. Training consisted of 750 throws distributed to 10 training units. As a result, VT and RT groups improved in virtual and real performance, but only the RT group transferred training to the virtual condition. Furthermore, the RT group enjoyed training more than the VT group. As a conclusion, added values of Serious Games in sport skill learning may take effect only under certain conditions.
