ABSTRACT Introduction: Studies of sedentary behavior in the workplace, where conditions represent a health risk, mainly involving levels of physical activity and health of police officers, have increased in several countries around the world. Objective The objective of this study was to compare the physical activity levels, sedentary behavior and health risks of military police officers involved in overt and specialized patrolling. Methods: A total of 146 military police officers involved in overt and specialized patrolling were assessed, and anthropometric data were collected for body mass - kg; height - m; BMI - kg/ m²; waist-hip ratio (WHR) and fat percentage. Physical activity and inactivity levels were determined using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), short version 8, with statistical analysis (t-Test, Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-squared test, p≤0.05). Results: The mean time of physical activity – overt patrolling (108.33 ± 92.60 min/week) and specialized patrolling (137.11 ± 90.30 min/week) totaled an overall mean of 122.72 ± 91.94 min/week, p≤0.05; and time seated – overt patrolling (391.27 ± 192.90 min/week) had 30.1% of insufficiently active participants, while specialized patrolling was 319.41 ± 123.10 min/week with 17.1% of insufficiently active participants, with a total mean of 312.00 ± 112.30 min/week and 47.3% of insufficiently active participants. Active police officers are one-third less likely to develop health risk than inactive police officers (OR = 0.3, CI = 0.18-0.67). Overt patrol police officers are 3.6 more likely to develop health risk than specialized patrol police officers due to sedentary behavior (OR = 3.6, CI = 1.48-8.75). Conclusion: Both groups of military police officers have lower than recommended physical activity levels and spend most of their time seated. It was also noted that the variables of overt patrol police officers have indicators that are more detrimental to health than specialized patrol officers, yet both occupational groups should be instructed on how to adopt active and healthy lifestyles. Aim. To evaluate the diagnostic approaches to viral hepatitis B and immune response on hepatitis B vaccination among clinical dispensary of dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases medical staff. Methods. The study included 92 serum samples of healthcare facility staff who underwent hepatitis B vaccination more than 7 years before. To assess the post-vaccination immunity, levels of antibodies to surface antigen of hepatitis B (anti-HBS) were determined by ELISA. Published data on the duration of post-vaccination immunity and annual reporting forms of clinical dispensary of dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases of Kazan in 2013 were analyzed. Results. Patients with human immunodeficiency virus, viral hepatitis B and C are often seeking for medical aid, retaining the risk for medical staff and other patients to be infected. Diagnosis of hepatitis B virus in medical settings is based on the detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBSAg), while revealing hepatitis B core antigen (HBCAg), anti-HBC (summary levels), extra-Dane particle antigen (HBEAg) and other markers of viral hepatitis B would allow to diagnose a latent form of hepatitis B. In 56.5% (n=92) of cases, anti-HBs levels were below the protective titer, suggesting higher risk for infection and requiring an additional revaccination. In the remaining 43.5% of cases, protective antibodies titers were revealed, confirming the effectiveness of specific prevention measures. Conclusion. Despite the mass vaccination for hepatitis B, owing to post-vaccination immunity weakening over time, revaccination of medical staff remains important.

Conclusion. Correction of motivational measures made it possible to formulate practical recommendations to improve the efficiency of the work of medical workers.

Introduction: Preterm delivery remains the major cause of newborn infants’ morbidity and mortality globally and more so in low-income countries like Eritrea. Research has shown that the provision of Kangaroo mother care (KMC) can contribute to a reduction in morbidity and mortality among newborn infants. However, there is limited research on the practice of KMC in Eritrea. Methods: A mixed methods approach was adopted in a phenomenographic study to collect the data. Eleven participants with work experience of at least two years were recruited from the Specialised Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) at Orotta Paediatric Hospital (OPH), Asmara, Eritrea. Data were collected via individual interviews and observations. Results: The results showed that participants had no prior KMC training and education. In addition, staff had limited knowledge and mixed attitudes about KMC practice. There were also no KMC guidelines and protocols. Furthermore, space was not adequate for full KMC practice except for implementation of the kangaroo position. The researcher’s observation confirmed similar evidence of a lack of availability of a KMC ward and lack of protocols and guidelines. Limited interaction and communication about KMC between participants and parents was also observed. Some of the most common hindrances to KMC practice were the perception that KMC increased staff work load and that it was time consuming. In addition, lack of regular KMC training for staff, lack of a convenient setup and too few staff members were among the hindrances. One staff members also perceived that KMC practice was not culturally accepted. 15 Conclusion: The results of this study showed that there were no proper KMC guidelines and protocols in the ward. In addition, only the kangaroo position was practiced, not the full KMC protocol. Furthermore, staff had limited knowledge and mixed attitudes. The observation component of the research highlighted the lack of space and KMC protocols and guidelines as key limitations for delivering KMC. Therefore, it is recommended that a programme to improve staff knowledge be implemented, that evidence-based KMC guidelines and polices be made available, that the KMC ward be expanded, and that health education about KMC practice be brought to the population through mass media

The purpose of this essay is to examine and explain how the Swedish mining court of Stora Kopparberget (the Great Copper Mountain) implemented its judicial legislation between 1641-1682. Questions are asked about which counts of indictments the court tried, which sentences they handed out, in what quantities and how these results looks in comparison with other contemporary courts. The index cards of the court judicial protocols are the primary source of information. The methods are those of quantity- and comparative analysis.The results show that theft of copper ore was the most common crime ransacked by the court. Other common crimes were (in order): sin of omission, transgression of work directions, fights, slander and disdain, trade of stolen ore, failing appearance in court etc.Fines were by far the most common sentence followed by shorter imprisonments, gauntlets, loss of right to mine possession, twig beating, loss of work, penal servitude, banishment, “wooden horse riding” and finally military transcription. Even though previous re-search, in the field of Swedish specialized courts, is almost non existent evidence confirms great similarities between the Stora Kopparberget mining court and Sala mining court. This essay will, hopefully, enrich our knowledge of specialized courts, of 17th century mining industry and society and let us reach a broader understanding of the working conditions of the mountain.

The thesis aims to describe and analyze the process of professional treatment with emphasis on reducing criminogenic risks with convicted men placed into guarded prisons in section with a high level of security. Convicted criminals show diverse degrees of riskiness and different structures of criminogenic factors. In order for the Prison Service of Czech Republic to work with them effectively, it needs to know their criminological profile. For this stated purpose, it analyzes relevant anamnestic and special pedagogical data. The content of the treatment program is then determined based on their evaluation, which takes into account the variation of pedagogical, socio-legal and psychological approaches and methods, in regards to particular identified high-risk criminogenic factors and needs. The own research of the study, which forms the core of the practical/empiric part of the thesis, consists of the analysis of the self-reported assessed risk factors and subjectively percieved reactivity (alternatively analogous therapeutic responsiveness) and appropriate penitentiary-pedagogical interconnection of available treatment program activities. This study aims at discussing the job satisfaction of the contract staffs at Academia Sinica. As well, it aims at analyzing the contract staffs’ feeling of job satisfaction who have lower labor conditions than formal staffs. The research targets of the survey include the contract staffs at Academia Sinica. 194 questionnaires were distributed and 191 were returned with the return rate reaching 98%. The results and conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. There is significant difference that different background variables of outside-factors’ job satisfaction in “Relationship between colleagues”, “Administrative system”, “Leadership” and “Work Environment and Equipment” 2. There is significant difference that different background variables of inside-factors’ job satisfaction in “Contribute and Ability to the work”, “Capacity building and personal growth” and “Job satisfaction”. 3. There is significant correlation between inside-factors and outside-factors of job satisfaction, except of “Work Environment and Equipment” and “Job satisfaction”.

As a social worker practising in long-term residential care for people living with dementia, I am alarmed by discourses in the media and health policy that construct persons living with dementia and their health care needs as a threatening “rising tide” or crisis. I am particularly concerned about the material effects such dominant discourses, and the values they uphold, might have on the collective provision of care and support for our elderly citizens in the present neoliberal economic and political context of health care. To better understand how dominant discourses about dementia work at this time when Canada’s population is aging and the number of persons living with dementia is anticipated to increase, I have rooted my thesis in poststructural methodology. My research method is a discourse analysis, which draws on Foucault’s archaeological and genealogical concepts, to examine two contemporary health policy documents related to dementia care – one national and one provincial. I also incorporate some poetic representation – or found poetry – to write up my findings. While deconstructing and disrupting taken for granted dominant crisis discourses on dementia in health policy, my research also makes space for alternative constructions to support discursive and health policy possibilities in solidarity with persons living with dementia so that they may thrive.

Non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) is increasingly prevalent and presents unique challenges to the anesthesiologist. NORA includes procedures performed by gastroenterologists, interventional cardiologists, interventional pulmonologists, radiologists, and surgeons. Members of the anesthesia team must maintain a level of vigilance in the specialized areas where these procedures are performed that is equal to that in a traditional operating room while making accommodations for specialized equipment and rapid turnover. Anesthetic techniques must be chosen so as not to interfere with the proceduralist’s ability to diagnose and treat the underlying problem. In order to ensure optimal safety standards in NORA settings, anesthesiologists should maintain open channels of communication with procedural staff and should become involved in the design and outfitting of NORA locations.

Physicians have cared for acutely ill patients throughout history; after the devastating poliomyelitis epidemics of the 1950s, a new specialty emerged. Initially, respiratory care units were created for these severely affected patients, but soon they were transformed into intensive care units (ICUs). Trauma units and transplant units soon followed. Specialized care for patients with acute neurologic and neurosurgical disease occurred in parallel with these developments, but many of the early neuroscience ICUs were redesigned wards for neurosurgical or neurologic patients. Specialized physicians and nursing staff delivered multidisciplinary care, recognizing that no one group could function well alone. It was inevitable that critical care for the sickest patient was the only option to give them a fighting chance to survive. Currently, neurocritical care board examination combines neurocritical care with general intensive care, and questions are equally divided between the two. It is therefore appropriate to combine both areas of expertise in one single volume. The chapters correspond with the key disorders suggested by UCNS to assist in preparation for the examination. As expected, this book is not only detailed in basic pathophysiology but also presents major disorders and syndromes and their management. Because it has unprecedented full coverage of acute neurology, this book is equally useful as a preparation for the critical care medicine board examination.

The nexus of substance use disorders and criminal justice involvement is considerable. This is particularly the case in the United States, where 48% of individuals in federal prisons were incarcerated for drug-related convictions in 2011. In the last year for which national data are available, approximately half of the individuals incarcerated in state and federal prisons met criteria for drug abuse or dependence. Tobacco and alcohol use are also more common in correctional populations than in the general, non-institutionalized population. Thus, criminal justice populations have a significant need for evidence-based treatment of addiction and interventions to reduce the medical complications of drug use. While many programs to address substance use disorder among correctional populations exist, many individuals fail to receive adequate care and continue to experience complications of substance use disorders. Thus, correctional clinicians and staff, researchers, and patients will need to continue to advocate for improved and enhanced dissemination of integrated, evidence-based behavioral and pharmacological treatment for substance use disorder across the continuum of criminal justice involvement. This chapter describes the evolution of addiction programming within correctional settings from the late 1700s to contemporary practices. Beginning with a discussion of mutual aid societies as one of the earliest providers of ‘treatment,’ this chapter outlines important aspects of early treatment. Additionally, current levels of care and specialized modalities for individuals involved in the criminal justice system are presented, such as cognitive-behavioral interventions, drug courts, therapeutic communities, pharmacologically supported therapy, and harm reduction approaches.

Successful transitioning involves input from both paediatric and adult multidisciplinary teams with overlap between the two services and tailored to the needs of each individual. This includes varying the duration of the preparatory phase and the timing of transition and eventual transfer based on the chronological and developmental age, maturity, medical stability, and psychosocial issues of each individual patient. Buddy systems and peer support may aid smooth transitioning for some, with the promotion of patients attending a clinic with similar age groups, which can include the formation of a young adult clinic. Effective collaboration between children’s and adult services is required to obtain successful transition of adolescent patients. Moving from one paediatric hospital to different adult specialists in different hospitals requires excellent communication between various teams. Some staff members from each adult nephrology unit should specialize in adolescent medicine and construct their own transitional care pathways to ensure effective communication and collaboration with appropriate paediatric units and facilitate continuity of care with ongoing educational and social programmes.

AbstractThere is very limited literature on the experiences of fathers during Obstetric prenatal care (PNC), especially hearing from fathers’ voices directly. The MGH Fatherhood Project conducted two annual surveys—data combined for analysis—of all fathers who accompanied their partners to prenatal care visits over 2-week periods at a large, tertiary-care urban hospital in Boston, MA. The anonymous, voluntary close-ended survey was offered in multiple languages and self-administered on iPads.Results: Nine hundred fifty nine fathers participated, 86% of attending fathers, possibly making the study the largest research sample of fathers in PNC. Fathers are actively and deeply engaged with the impending birth; they have substantial physical health needs (obesity, family planning and lack of primary care), and mental health needs (stress, depressive symptoms, and personal isolation). Fathers perceived they were well treated during the PNC visit, but were desirous of more reproductive, relational, and infant health information and skills, which they preferred to receive from publications, social media, or health professionals; and they were very supportive of PNC fatherhood initiatives.Discussion: The results suggest five sets of practical recommendations to create a more father-friendly environment in Obstetric care-Staff Training; Father-Friendly Clinic Environment; Explicit Affirmation of Father Inclusion; Development of Educational Materials; and Specialized Father-Focused Health Initiatives, all with the goal of improving reproductive health outcomes for families.

The civil service law of the European Union governs the legal relationships between Union institutions and agencies, on the one hand, and their staff and a number of categories of persons who may have rights under the EU Staff Regulations or equivalent instruments, on the other hand. These latter include in particular former staff in receipt of pensions or other benefits, family members of (former) staff who have a claim on the Union as a result of their links with the staff member, and candidates for competitions and contractual posts. It is EU law in a relatively pure form, in that neither national law nor the Member State authorities (administrative or political) play any significant part in its application, except Member State governments in their role as Union legislators within the Council, and occasionally national courts called upon to apply EU staff law in national disputes, for example in tax or family law matters. Recently, collapsed bridges, belonging to infrastructure networks, evidence the needs of reliable monitoring and inspection routines. Inspections can be a challenge operation in sites difficult to access; specially trained staff like industrial climbers perform the inspection routine, eventually involving large under-bridge units, elevating platforms, or other specialized equipment. In addition, since the inspections are performed manually, the outcomes mainly rely on inspector confidence and experience. This paper discuss the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles for monitoring and inspection of transport infrastructure.

Successful replantation depends on multiple variables. A coordinated effort of emergency transport services, emergency room personnel, operating room staff, anesthesiologists and postoperative nursing is required for success. The need for this team approach has led to the development of several specialized replantation centers worldwide. The authors discuss the various mechanisms of injury and their chances for successful replantation. This chapter examines the indications and contraindications for appropriate replantation. Also provided are many useful techniques for vessel and nerve repair, bony fixation, tendon repair, and soft tissue coverage. The chapter also discusses postoperative management, rehabilitation, and follow-up.

Martin Wind Tunnel (GLMWT) has developed specialized investigative techniques to evaluate underwater appendages for sailing yachts that have been continuously improved through practice by GLMWT staff. These specialized techniques are required to obtain the best possible differential evaluation of appendage designs that commonly have differences in drag of a fraction of 1percent. The general methods of study will be described and a representative set of results is presented, which highlights that the minimum drag appendage solution is not necessarily the optimal set of appendages for an America’s Cup yacht.

The most important part of the modern health care system is nursing. Nurses are a huge human resource with real potential opportunities in the context of modernizing the domestic healthcare. This article presents the results of a survey of nurses of the regional narcological dispensary. Analysis of a time-based study of the main types of functional responsibilities of outpatient nurses in the dispensary Department. This study may affect organizational activities of a specialized drug treatment nurse. The purpose of this study is to improve the organization of the nursing activities in a medical organization that provides specialized medical care. Proper organization of the nurses’ work contributes to high involvement in the treatment process, improving the quality of medical care, and motivation for active professional development. Effective professional activity of the nursing staff is aimed to meeting the needs of patients in affordable and acceptable medical care.

Dosimetry and Radiation Protection, and Nuclear Physics and Technology are among the optional subjects in the degree in Physics of the University of Zaragoza. Both of them are taught by the Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Area in the Faculty of Science. Since 2010, teaching staff on these subjects started to collaborate with a medical physics expert. The collaboration consisted of a seminar on Medical Physics and a guided tour to the clinical facilities. In these activities, the main tasks of a Medical Physicist and the way to access to the specialized training were explained. In 2015 University of Zaragoza launched the first call of the Expertia Program. This educational program adds professional experience to the academic programs. Since then, the teaching staff on Dosimetry and Radiation Protection, and Nuclear Physics and Technology have applied for the Educational Expertia (Expertia Docente) Program in all the editions and the collaboration has been enlarged to include several Radiation Oncologists’ experiences in the activities.

Global economy and growing competiveness on international market require consolidated approach in the Problem Solving process, that cover a variety of issues and functions in social life and economy; also in vocational education and industrial training [1]. The paper outlines a concept of Competence Based Problem Solving Training Protocol for modular mechatronic training by DATAMAS, developed to upgrade mechatronic competence of staff performing maintenance and repair jobs in automated plants in Poland. The concept presumes, that to achieve the very best training outcomes resulting in fast and effective diagnose and solving field problems, it is necessary to better adjust specialized training curricula and procedures to the problem of staff intellectual potential and capability. Such approach is reflected in the process of delivering DATAMAS training modules, flexible and adaptable to different production systems and conditions thus, able to effectively upgrade the maintenance staff competences and solve a variety of functional and other problems. Due to their didactic content combining knowledge and hard skills acquisition as well as soft skills, behaviors and attitudes advancement, the modules are the base training material, modified and applied for a variety of customized, on demand training courses “on the shop-floor”. They exercise how to more effectively solve real field problems by engaging trainees to some creative activity and emotional involvement. The modules are equipped with DATAMAS Training Protocol which provides methodological and organizational frame for the company’s trainers. DATAMAS Training Protocol was designed to follow the SSM approach [2]. The Protocol is mapping many functional features and training procedures that follow technical program saturated with the ongoing “mind storm” animation and argumentation. Since the DATAMAS Training Protocol concept has been under continuing scrutiny, only some limited data on its application are available. The paper outlines the concept, discus the problem solving cycle applied and explains some features of the Protocol. Problem solving cycle proposed by DATAMAS is outlined in Annex A, while a section of DATAMAS Training Protocol is shown in Annex B.

Traditionally business areas within an organization individually manage data essential for their operation. This data may be incorporated into specialized software applications, MS Excel or MS Access etc., e-mail filing, and hardcopy documents. These applications and data stores support the local business area decision-making and add to its knowledge. There have been problems with this approach. Data, knowledge and decisions are only captured locally within the business area and in many cases this information is not easily identifiable or available for enterprise-wide sharing. Furthermore, individuals within the business areas often keep “shadow files” of data and information. The state of accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the data contained within these files is often questionable. Information created and managed at a local business level can be lost when a staff member leaves his or her role. This is especially significant given ongoing changes in today’s workforce. Data must be properly managed and maintained to retain its value within the organization. The development and execution of “single version of the truth” or master data management requires a partnership between the business areas, records management, legal, and the information technology groups of an organization. Master data management is expected to yield significant gains in staff effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. In 2011, Enbridge Pipelines applied the principles of master data management and trusted data digital repositories to a widely used, geographically dispersed small database (less than 10,000 records) that had noted data shortcomings such as incomplete or incorrect data, multiple shadow files, and inconsistent usage throughout the organization of the application that stewards the data. This paper provides an overview of best practices in developing an authoritative single source of data and Enbridge experience in applying these practices to a real-world example. Challenges of the approach used by Enbridge and lessons learned will be examined and discussed.

Enbridge Pipelines remotely controls the flow of approximately two-thirds of Canada’s crude oil and refined products produced from the Western Canadian Sedimentary basin through the Enbridge mainline pipeline system. These various products divided into batches run though multiple terminal systems. Each terminal site is unique and requires a multitude of specialized control systems to maintain its various flow patterns. To efficiently control these terminals Enbridge operators use the custom built PROCYS SCADA system. This system contains a graphical user interface containing schematics and panels that allow operator view and control. As part of this system a subset of control panels were developed and labeled swing panels. Swing panels allow operators to safely and efficiency run product through the various systems within a terminal. Swing panels have been in successful operation for over 10 years, however their development and maintenance cycles were less than optimal for operators and SCADA support staff. For this reason the Enbridge Terminal swing panel system was redesigned. These second generation swing panels were designed to use XML input files and Perl scripting to allow for automated construction. By encapsulating terminal swings in XML the swing panels are easier to maintain and build. This re-design resulted in a system of more functional, usable, and maintainable swing panels. The following paper will discuss this project in more detail.

However, Human Resource Management professionals in the workplace need to realize that there may be a need for coaching training and skills enhancement workshops to prepare today’s workforce managers. The key for success in this area is to conduct a need assessment for the workers and managerial staff to determine what is needed from today’s workplace coaches in terms of needed skills sets and strategies to be utilized by them to help enhance, motivate, monitor, and evaluate the human capital working for today’s organization. Next, the development and design of a coaching program can be instrumental in moving today’s managerial workforce from general coaches to more specialized coaches to help develop and today’s workforce, as well as help strengthen their own skills sets and knowledge in order to help obtain better results of organizational goals, as well as develop stronger working relationships and bonding with the workers. Equally important, today’s workers need to exert an equal amount of effort and participation in a coaching environment in order to gain better outcomes in terms of performance and efficiency. This presentation will focus on the creation of better coaching programs and evaluation of coaching relationships and outcomes.

Aim/Purpose: Using United Nations as the backdrop, this article present a theory-based conceptual model. The results of this empirical study also identify the most influence factors to the success of change management to the United Nations. Background: In 2000, the issue of management reform started taking center stage in the United Nations, and change efforts were presented to various governing bodies regularly as an indicator of organizational performance. However, existing change theories put many efforts on addressing the institutional management and behavior problems. Only a few answered the phenomenon existing in the U.N. context. Methodology: Using the data collected from seven United Nations organizations, we assess the psychometric properties of validated survey items, followed by EFA and then CFA. Contribution: Change management in the United Nations context is rarely being studied. Fifteen items in five constructs describing impact factors for current change process in the United Nations are derived. Findings This article identified five factors, including Communication, Transparency, Culture, Participation, and Resistance, that are the most influence factors with implication to change and change management in the United Nations. Recommendations for Practitioners: To United Nations management professionals, they should not only emphasize on the implementations of the change process, but also, as our findings clearly show, on institutional pressures such as culture. However, the results of this study also show that putting efforts on clear organization’s objectives and procedure, smooth improvement process in place, transparency with the encouragement of staff participation, will significantly reduce such impact from the resistance of staff. Recommendation for Researchers: The U.N. context is changing today at a faster rate. The U.N. is rarely being studied. Organizational theories applied to management frameworks provide great opportunity for research. These studies can also investigate management theories as they apply to the various types of U.N. organizations such specialized ones and other NGOs. Impact on Society: As one of the biggest players in the international political and economic stage with a significant influence on the stability of global society, this study introduces an understanding of this political nature body that does not only benefit the knowledge of the organization but also indirectly impacts on the sustainability of the global community in the long run. Future Research: This research makes significant implications for future studies in the change management theory from an integrated view in the context of the United Nations. That could attract more attention further on an integration of strategic management, the cohesive methodology of project management practices as well as assimilated performance management research from within the U.N. system.
