In our discussion of the articles in this Special Section, we ask how well the various methods employed in these investigations can be made to converge on a common issue. We review how current evidence from positron emission tomography, studies of event-related potentials, cognitive methods, lesion studies, and network models relates to the mental processing of an ambiguous word. While many puzzles remain, we are impressed by the promising possibility of bringing these different methods together to deal with an issue central to cognition.

Objective – To examine the evidence based management literature, as an example of evidence based practice, and determine how applicable evidence based management might be in the special library environment. Methods – Recent general management literature and the subject-focused literature of evidence based management were reviewed; likewise recent library/information science management literature and the subject-focused literature of evidence based librarianship were reviewed to identify relevant examples of the introduction and use of evidence based practice in organizations. Searches were conducted in major business/management databases, major library/information science databases, and relevant Web sites, blogs and wikis. Citation searches on key articles and follow-up searches on cited references were also conducted. Analysis of the retrieved literature was conducted to find similarities and/or differences between the management literature and the library/information science literature, especially as it related to special libraries. Results – The barriers to introducing evidence based management into most organizations were found to apply to many special libraries and are similar to issues involved with evidence based practice in librarianship in general. Despite these barriers, a set of resources to assist special librarians in accessing research-based information to help them use principles of evidence based management is identified. Conclusion – While most special librarians are faced with a number of barriers to using evidence based management, resources do exist to help overcome these obstacles.

In recent decades there has been a trend towards greater use of empirical data, for instance corpus data, within linguistics. I analyse a sample of linguistics articles from the past half-century in order to establish a detailed profile for this trend. Based on consistent criteria for classifying papers as evidence-based, intuition-based, or neutral, the resulting profile shows that the trend (i) is real, but (ii) is strikingly weaker in general linguistics than in the special subfield of computational linguistics, and (iii) appears to have begun to go into reverse.

Abstract Evidence generation by current Social and Health Sciences is coping with some important barriers that difficult credibility of scientific products. Information and communication technologies have a strong impact over social relationships in our postmodern societies. The incidence of post-truth in our context is generating a pernicious relativism, far from contrasting the information veracity. The aim of this paper is to analyze and discuss the challenges of research methods and statistical models, more specifically for Psychological research, taking into account the impact of novel techniques as big data and virtual reality. Special attention is also devoted to the discussion about statistical shortcomings of psychological research and to the reproducibility problem. Finally, some potential solutions are proposed to be applied in order to improve the quality of scientific evidence.

The purpose of this commentary is to provide observation on the contributions to the special issue and remark on the broader implications of the research. As noted throughout the special issue, the intent was to demonstrate the use of progress monitoring within a problem-solving framework to evaluate student social and behavioral development using direct behavior ratings (DBR). Leveraging single-case research methods through adherence to the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) standards, the articles included in the special issue provide examples for using DBR to assess student response-to-intervention while also illustrating a number of psychometric considerations that can strengthen the evidence base for progress-monitoring tools more broadly. In this commentary, we argue that the research included in the special issue provides a framework for conceptualizing evidence-based assessment for progress-monitoring instruments using single-case methods. Toward this end, the commentary provides an overview of the concept of evidence-based assessment and uses examples from the included studies to describe various facets.

Introduction: This is the first report on insects associated with rabbit carcasses in indoor environment in Kuching, Sarawak. Methods: This study was conducted on June till August of 2016. Rabbit carcasses (Oryctolagous cuniculus) which were used as the animal model, were placed inside a dark room in a building at Forensic Medicine Department in Sarawak General Hospital. The fly larvae infesting on the carcasses were collected until the decomposition process completed. Throughout the 15 days of experiment, the fly larvae were sampled on the carcasses indoor at 28.9 ± 0.3 °C and 69.6 ± 1.0% humidity. Results: The fly larvae activity was observed during the active decay stage and was identified as Synthesiomyia nudiseta (van der Wulp, 1883) (Diptera: Muscidae) and Sarcophaga spp. (Diptera: Sarcophagidae). Only these two species were found co-existing on the carcasses. Conclusions: S. nudiseta and Sarcophaga spp. could be used as an entomological evidence involving indoor cases in Kuching, Sarawak because both species were dominant and active carcass decomposers in indoor environment.

Paraprofessionals often constitute the primary support system for special education students and are core members of special education instructional teams. Therefore, the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act requires that paraprofessionals receive adequate training, including training in evidence-based practices (EBP). However, paraprofessionals often do not obtain the training and professional development they need to become qualified. The unpreparedness of paraprofessionals may lead to discouraging student outcomes. Informed by social constructivism, the purpose of this exploratory case study was to understand the perspectives of 6 special education administrators, 5 special education teachers, and 1 special education paraprofessional on paraprofessionals' implementation of EBP and the status of EBP training for paraprofessionals. Purposely, and within the context of organizational sociocultural conditions, this study queried the perspectives of the participants in the purposeful sample on paraprofessional experience and training in EBP. During exploratory data analysis, open coding was used to analyze data thematically and identify central sociocultural themes. There was 1 overarching theme (organizational contexts of EBP implementation), 4 major subthemes (resources for EBP implementation, intrinsic attributes of professionals implementing EBP, extrinsic attributes of professionals implementing EBP, and acknowledging and valuing the role and importance of paraprofessionals tasked with implementing EBP), and several minor subthemes. This study may result in implementation of a yearlong paraprofessional professional development project, increased understanding and implementation of EBP, expansion of professional learning communities (PLC), and improvement of student outcomes.

Abstract Statistical methods are an essential part of the published dental research. It is important to evaluate the use of these methods to improve the quality of dental research. In the first part, the aim of this interdisciplinary study is to investigate the development of the use of statistical methods in dental journals, quality of statistical reporting and reporting of statistical techniques and results in dental research papers, with special reference to time-to-event methods. In the second part, the focus is specifically on time-to-event methods, and the aim is to demonstrate the strength of time-to-event methods in collecting detailed data about the development of oral health. The first part of this study is based on an evaluation of dental articles from five dental journals. The second part of the study is based on empirical data from 28 municipal health centres in order to study variations in the survival of tooth health. There were different profiles in the statistical content among the journals. The quality of statistical reporting was quite low in the journals. The use of time-to-event methods has increased from 1996 to 2007 in the evaluated dental journals. However, the benefits of these methods have not been fully adopted in dental research. The current study added new information regarding the status of statistical methods in dental research. Our study also showed that complex time-to-event analysis methods can be utilized even with detailed information on each tooth in large groups of study subjects. Authors of dental articles might apply the results of this study to improve the study protocol/planning as well as the statistical section of their research article
Tiivistelmä Tilastolliset tutkimusmenetelmät ovat olennainen osa hammaslääketieteellistä tutkimusta. Menetelmien käyttöä on tärkeä tutkia, jotta hammaslääketieteen tutkimuksen laatua voitaisiin parantaa. Tämän poikkitieteellisen tutkimuksen ensimmäisessä osassa tavoite on tutkia erilaisten tilastomenetelmien ja tutkimusasetelmien käyttöä, raportoinnin laatua ja tapahtumaan kuluvan ajan analysointimenetelmien käyttöä hammaslääketieteellisissä artikkeleissa. Toisessa osassa osoitetaan analysointimenetelmien vahvuus isojen tutkimusjoukkojen analysoinnissa. Ensimmäisen osan tutkimusaineiston muodostavat viiden hammaslääketieteellisen aikakauslehden artikkelit. Toisen osan tutkimusaineiston muodostivat 28 terveyskeskuksessa eri puolella Suomea hammashoitoa saaneet potilaat. Lehdet erosivat toisistaan tilastomenetelmien käytön ja tulosten esittämisen osalta. Tilastollisen raportoinnin laatu oli lehdissä puutteellinen. Tapahtumaan kuluvan ajan analysointimenetelmien käyttö on lisääntynyt vuosien 1996–2007 aikana.

Annotation:

This work explores how the evidential value of digital timestamps can be enhanced by taking a hypothesis based approach to the investigation of digital timestamps. It defines the concepts of clock hypotheses, timestamps and causality in digital systems. These concepts are utilized to develop methods that can be used in an investigation to test a clock hypothesis for consistency with timestamps found in an actual investigation, given causality between specific events occurring in the investigated system. Common storage systems are explored for the identification of causality between the events of information storage. By using a logic programming variant of predicate calculus, a formalism for modelling the relationship between events and timestamp updating is defined. This formalism can be used to determine invariants in digital systems.

Invariants and causality relations can be used to check a clock hypothesis for consistency with timestamp evidence. These methods can be utilized in software for digital investigation. By checking the large number of timestamps typically occurring on a digital medium, the methods can assist with the justification of a clock hypothesis, and thereby increase the confidence in specific timestamps found during the investigation. Previously, the checking of timestamps has relied upon the existence of timestamps from other evidence sources. With the methods defined in this work, justification of timestamp interpretation can be achieved without having to rely on timestamps from other sources of evidence.

The methods developed in this work were implemented in a clock hypothesis consistency checker. This checker was tested in an experiment where subjects were asked to antedate a document. The checker was found to be able to produce evidence supporting a hypothesis that the document was antedated.

Annotation:
Adverse events following the use of medical interventions are a major source of concern for patients, healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical companies. Therefore, evidence synthesis of potential adverse events are very important in determining whether an association exists, and the strength of such an association. It is also desirable to be able to quantitatively balance potential harms against the benefits of the intervention. However, standard statistical techniques for meta-analysis are often unsuitable when applied to datasets where the primary intervention is an adverse event. A review of standard meta-analysis methods, including Bayesian methods, is conducted. The specific challenges of meta-analysis in relation to adverse events datasets are described, with some of the main areas of contention being sparsity of events, subgroup analysis, class effects with regard to drug interventions, and issues related to time factors within the individual studies. Methods used in existing meta-analyses where the primary outcome is an adverse event have also been reviewed; this demonstrates the methods already used in this field and highlights some of their limitations, and where the methods could be extended. In the light of the reviews of methods and previous meta-analyses, four case-studies are performed. The first uses data from GlaxoSmithKline to investigate a potential relationship between paroxetine and suicidality, using many of the standard methods for comparison purposes. The second uses individual patient data for a time-to-event analysis of anti-TNF drugs used for rheumatoid arthritis. This clinical example is extended by the use of Mixed Treatment Comparisons for within-class comparisons, and to assess the effect of dose. Finally, a harm-benefits model is used to assess the interplay of risk of endometrial cancer against breast cancer recurrence for tamoxifen users. These models present novel ways of analysing adverse events data and demonstrate some of the difficulties in their use.

Gillies, Clare Louise. „Development of evidence synthesis methods for health policy decision making - A chain of evidence approach“. Thesis, University of Leicester, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/7462.

Der volle Inhalt der Quelle
Annotation:
This project comprises a critical exploration and development of methods for the synthesis of evidence, using a chain of evidence approach, from diverse, yet inter-related, sources. The methodologies were explored through the development of a comprehensive decision model to assess different health policies in respect to screening for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Four strategies were compared which were, no screening (current policy), screening for T2DM alone allowing for early diagnosis and treatment of the condition, and two strategies whereby both impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and T2DM were screened for, allowing for early treatment of T2DM and for either lifestyle or pharmacological interventions to be applied to those with IGT in an attempt to delay the onset of T2DM. The comprehensive decision model developed here was innovative when compared to current published models in a number of ways. Firstly the entire model was encompassed within a single flexible framework, which has a number of advantages, and secondly as much of the available data as was feasible to use, was incorporated into the model inputs. A number of methodological issues and techniques were explored during the development of the comprehensive decision model. These included mixed treatment comparison analyses, assessment of baseline risk on intervention effects and the use of individual patient data. A number of sensitivity analyses and model extensions were carried out to assess the parameters with most influence on model results, and to adapt the model to different screening scenarios. The results of the model provide evidence that a screening strategy for IGT and T2DM, followed by appropriate treatment and interventions appears to be a cost-effective screening strategy. Uncertainty still surrounds the cost-effectiveness of screening for T2DM alone and further research is required. Running decision models within a Bayesian, comprehensive decision modelling framework, allows for model flexibility and has advantages over more conventional modelling techniques.

Annotation:

Currently, the majority of students with disabilities are educated in a general education classroom, which led to a paradigm shift and pedagogies used to meet the needs of all students. The research problem was that general education teachers use of highly effective evidence-based interventions that improve academic achievement for students with disabilities was unknown, and it was not known why some teachers did not use these practices more frequently. The purpose of the study was to discover how frequently general education teachers implemented highly effective evidence-based interventions to improve academic achievement for students with disabilities, and why some teachers did not use these interventions. Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Learning Theory were the framework for the study. A qualitative research approach using 30 videotaped lessons from the Measures of Effective Teaching Longitudinal study and 18 teacher interviews were used to answer the research questions. Videotaped lessons were scored for the use of highly effective evidence-based interventions that improve academic achievement for students with disabilities. Structured teacher interviews included the use of highly effective evidence-based practices, how frequently these practices were used weekly, and barriers that prevented them from using these best practices. Analysis of the frequency of use for highly effective evidence-based practices indicated that 90% of the teachers in the videos used explicit instruction, 27% used graphic organizers, and 10% used peer tutoring. Nonetheless, analysis of teacher interviews indicated explicit instruction and peer-tutoring were used by 100% of the teachers, 94% used reading comprehension strategies, 83% used inquiry based learning, 78% used graphic organizers, and mnemonics were used by 72% of the teachers. Barriers to implementing evidence-based practices were lack of time, money, resources, and efficacy to choose evidence-based practices for students with disabilities. Schools need to provide shared planning time, make better use of resources, and provide teacher training to build teachers’ efficacy to implement these best practices. Further research is recommended on the use of evidence-based practices in general education classrooms for students with disabilities using a larger sampling of general education teachers to increase the reliability and validity of the findings.

Annotation:
Evidence-based practice is a term that continues to receive a great.deal of attention within the Educational Psychology (EP) profession. Publications within the EP field have suggested that evidence-based practice is unworkable due to its reliance on research evidence and have instead suggested practice, which is based primarily on practitioner experience. This study suggests that EP conceptualisations of evidence-based practice have been too narrow, and adopts a model of evidence-based practice from the field of organisational psychology. This model accepts a wide range of sources of evidence including research findings, practitioner experience and judgement, information from people directly affected by decision and information from the local context. A mixed methods approach is adopted to explore EPs understandings and use of evidence in practice. The study is comprised of three phases: an experiment, an attitude scale, and a focused ethnography with interviews. Findings for this study are mixed primarily at the level of interpretation. Findings suggest that EPs orientation towards evidence-based practice is complex. It is suggested that EPs may currently lack some of the skills to be effective evidencebased practitioners but that a wide range of evidence is already drawn on in daily practice. A major barrier to a more critical understanding and application of evidence-based practice is an underlying assumption that 'evidence' is synonymous with 'research'. An expanded model of evidence-based practice is presented which, it is suggested, will allow for EPs to critically and explicitly engage with many types of evidence within practice. An essential element of evidence-based practice for EPs is their connection and relationship with peers that allows for exposure to challenge, new ideas and ways of thinking.

The monograph is devoted to a comprehensive review of the problems of pre-trial evidence collection as one of the stages of the general procedural mechanism aimed at establishing the circumstances relevant to the criminal case. The essence, methodological basis and system of investigative actions, forensic examinations and other procedural methods of collecting evidence that make up the modern arsenal of bodies of inquiry and preliminary investigation are investigated. The main cognitive and security technologies used in conducting investigative and other procedural actions are highlighted. The problems of the theory and legal regulation of the general rules of their implementation, the procedural status of their participants, fixing their progress and results, judicial control over their production are reflected; the actual problems of investigative inspection, examination, search, interrogation, confrontation, forensic examination, as well as the presentation, demand and seizure (seizure) of objects and documents are considered. Special attention is paid to the applied aspects, the analysis of errors and difficulties that arise in modern law enforcement practice, and possible ways to overcome them are proposed. For researchers and practitioners, teachers, postgraduates( adjuncts), students, as well as anyone interested in topical issues of criminal procedure law and criminology.

The aim of this work is to determine to what extent Robert Parker has lost his influence as a prescriber in the world of wine through a webometric analysis based on a comparative analysis of Parker’s web influence and that of a competitor who represents an anthitetical vision of the world of wine (Alice Feiring). To do this, we carried out a comparative analysis for Parker’s (@wine_advocate) and Alice Feiring’s (@alicefeiring) official Twitter accounts, including a broad set of metrics (productivity, age, Social Activity, number of followees, etc.), paying special attention to specific followers’ features (age, gender, location, and bios text). The results show that Parker’s twitter profile exhibits an overall higher impact, which denotes not only a different online strategy but also a high level of engagement and popularity. The low level of shared followers by Parker and Feiring (1,898 users) offer prima facie evidence of an online gap between these followers, which can indicate the existence of a divided group of supporters corresponding with the visions that Parker and Feiring represent. Finally, special features are notice for Feiring in gender (more women followers), language (more English-speaking followers) and country (more followers from the United States).

The link between education and economic growth has been the subject of public debate, and it has been widespread interest among economists in solving key economic problems. As a determinant of human capital, which is one of the factors of production, education has its own contribution in the process of globalization where economies are transformed and based on knowledge. Particularly higher education has a high economic value because it causes the formation of human capital and it is often seen as vital for a continued growth performance, prosperity, and competitiveness in national and global economies. Higher education contributes to the economic growth by producing higher-level skills and competencies needed for a shift towards knowledge-based economy. For these reasons, countries all over the world especially the developing countries such as North Macedonia, are giving higher education special attention to facilitate the economic growth. In this study, the co-integration between higher education and economic growth in North Macedonia is analyzed using dynamic methods. Toda Yamamoto's approach for Granger's causality (TY) developed by Toda and Yamamoto (1995) is used to analyze the causality between economic growth and higher education. For this aim, a bivariate VAR model is constructed. This study provides an evidence for the causality between higher education and economic growth in North Macedonia. Moreover, a key role of higher education institutions is to drive innovation, with the aim of finding solutions to global challenges. Today, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a danger that COVID-19 will destabilize this educational level, with serious consequences. Therefore, the challenges that higher education is faced are emphasized in order to help education institutions and policy-makers to reflect on them and be prepared to address them, while re-emphasizing the role of higher education in supporting to conform the post-COVID19 pandemic.

This study investigated second- and third-year science students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of their learning practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study focused on the concept of active learning, with special attention paid to self-regulation and self-direction. The data collected through mixed research methods provided evidence of students’ flexible adjustment to the exceptional circumstances. However, the data also revealed a relatively limited range of learning strategies reported by respondents. Thus, this paper identifies an important need for further investigation of students’ practices to enhance their awareness of learning strategies, as a way of becoming active learners. Finally, the study also made salient the need for teacher training in effective teaching strategies, as a complementary strategy to promote students’ active learning. The conclusions from the study reach beyond the current circumstances, as they suggest implications for learning design in terms of educators’ training and designing for active learning.

Although Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is successful both in function and durability, there is evidence that the kinematics are abnormal, suggesting that function can be further improved, especially in patients with the capability of returning to an active lifestyle. The goal of this study was to formulate a testing method which would predict the performance of a TKR by using the mechanical characteristics of the anatomic knee as a benchmark. It is proposed that a ‘holistic testing method’ should consist of a determination of the neutral path of motion during a full flexion range, together with the AP and rotational laxity about the neutral path. This test regimen would represent the forces and torques experienced in a range of everyday activities. The proposed testing method is evaluated using a special test rig to compare the kinematics of different TKR designs, with anatomic knee specimens.

This work focuses on deformation mechanisms taking place in a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) exposed to high impact shock. A combined experimental, theoretical, and numerical approach has been applied to address both the nature of the observed deformation and its modeling and test metrology implications. Experimental evidence overwhelmingly indicates that a PCB in both test and system applications undergoes nonlinear deformations. Geometric nonlinearity of board response is attributed to the elevated in-plane (membrane) stresses that develop when a drop height and/or inertia forces are significant. The impact of these stresses on deformations (board strain) was quantified using a specially designed test. Membrane stresses were also accounted for in a numerical (Finite Element Method) model developed and carefully validated in the course of this study. The model shows a very good agreement with test data. The nonlinearity of PCB deformation in shock, i.e. the fact that both bending moments and in-plane forces are present in the board has important implications on test metrology development and on correlation between the measured board strain and stresses in interconnects of surface mounted components. Of special importance is the impact that nonlinearity can have on development of transfer functions between strain measurements on system boards and strain measurements on test boards, which is also addressed in the paper.

Rotating instability (RI) occurs at off-design conditions in compressors, predominantly in configurations with large tip or hub clearance ratios of s* ≥ 3% [1]. RI is the source of the blade tip vortex noise and a potential indicator for critical operating conditions like rotating stall and surge. The objective of this paper is to give more physical insight into the RI phenomenon using the analysis results of combined near-field measurements with High-Speed PIV and unsteady pressure sensors. The investigation was pursued on an annular cascade with hub clearance. Both the unsteady flow field next to the leading edge as well as the associated rotating pressure waves were captured. A special analysis method illustrates the characteristic pressure wave amplitude distribution, denoted as ‘Modal Events’ of the RI. Moreover, the slightly adapted method reveals the unsteady flow structures corresponding to the RI. Correlations between the flow profile, the dominant vortex structures and the rotating pressure waves were found. Results provide evidence to a new hypothesis, implying that shear layer instabilities constitute the basic mechanism of the RI.

Understanding the audience is the key to successful communication. Therefore, an effective teacher has to consider manifold differences among the students in any given classroom: the characteristics of the students, the mindset of the generation, the variety of learning styles, the students’ needs and goals, and their educational background. Since Aleksandras Stulginskis University (ASU) awards the degrees in food sciences and agriculture, a sizeable part of the students come to study from rural areas. Recent educational research in the USA, UK and Lithuania have revealed a significant difference in the academic performance of the students from rural and urban areas, however, it is still an unresolved problem for the educational institutions in Lithuania. This area has an insubstantial amount of research documented. Thus, the current research aims at investigating the relationship between the location of the school, a student graduated from, and the results of the English Language Diagnostic Test as well as analysing the academic performance of the Agronomy Faculty students through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters. The study focuses on our current undergraduate students - the always-connected, app-happy, smartphone-dependent, born with the Internet, technology, and social media Generation Z. The research methods involve the statistical and comparative analyses of the urban and rural student academic performance (diagnostic test results, examination grades of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters) in the English language; the theoretical assumptions based on the related scientific literature and documents on educational statistics, and the investigation of motivational factors influencing the academic performance of the Generation Z students in line with the processed survey results. The research was initiated in 2015, student academic performance was monitored through the period from 2015 to 2017, and the survey was administered in 2017. The research findings indicate that students from rural schools have an inferior level of the English language compared to the students that finished schools in urban areas, whereas the examination results through the second, third and fourth semesters unveiled an unexpected tendency. Figures show that students from rural schools not only managed to catch up with their colleagues from urban schools, but also outperformed their urban-school peers by roughly increasing rates of their performance. The research evidence could aid teachers and education policy makers, providing a better understanding of Generation Z students from rural and urban areas and factors influencing students' performance.

Abstract With the development of new oil formations and with the advent of new directions in the global energy sector, new requirements for materials for well construction appear. With the close attention to environmental footprint and unique properties, one of the promising materials for well cementing is geopolymers. Being a relatively new material, they are characterized by low carbon footprint, high acid resistance and attractive mechanical properties. This article is aimed at developing new geopolymer slurries for the oil industry, their characterization and field implementation analysis. With the ultimate goal of developing a methodology for the analysis of raw materials and designing the geopolymer slurries, studies were carried out on various raw materials, including different types of fly ash. Based on the data obtained and rapid screening methods, an approach was developed to formulate a geopolymer composition recipe. Since not all cement additives directly work in geopolymers, special attention was paid to control the thickening time and fluid loss. The methods of XRD, XRF, ICP-MS, density, particle size distribution measurements as well as API methods of cement testing were used to understand the composition and structure of the materials obtained, their properties and design limitations. A special approach was applied to study the acid resistance of the materials obtained and to compare with conventional cements and slags. Using one of the most common sources of aluminosilicate, fly ash, formulations with a density of 13.5 – 16.5 lbm/galUS were tested. A sensitivity analysis showed that the type of activator and its composition play a critical role both in the mechanical properties of the final product and in the solidification time and rheological properties of the product. The use of several samples of fly ash, significantly different in composition, made it possible to formulate the basic rules for the design of geopolymers for the oil industry. An analysis was also carried out on 10 different agents for filtration and 7 moderators to find a working formulation for the temperature range up to 100°C. The samples were systematically examined for changes in composition, strength, and acid resistance was previously measured. Despite the emergence of examples of the use of geopolymers in the construction industry and examples of laboratory testing of geopolymers for the oil industry, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no evidence of pumping geopolymers into a well. Our work is an attempt to develop an adaptation of the construction industry knowledge to the unique high pressure, high temperature conditions of the oil and gas industry. The ambitions of this work go far beyond the laboratory tests and involve yard test experiments.

This paper gives an overview of Petrobras’ experience on the salvage operation of RG-2 gas pipeline of Roncador Field, as part of Petrobras effort to recover the Roncador production after P-36 accident. The RG-2 gas pipeline, a 10in ND rigid steel pipe, 38 km longer, that has used to export gas production of P-36 to Roncador PLAEM-1, was connected to the floating unit through a steel catenary riser. After P-36 sunk on March 2001, a set of analyses and surveillance on RG-2 was performed and concluded that only 2 km near P-36’s connection was lost and addressed the pipeline reuse is feasible. These facts were very important to Petrobras because allows a fast and effective solution to the gas production exportation of FPSO Brasil, the unit that will replace P-36 production at the first phase. At that moment, the RG-2 was connected on P-36 wreckage on the seafloor at 1300m of water depth, not flooded and filled with gas at very low pressure. Under this scenery, it was developed a procedure to flood RG-2 with seawater, in order to remove the gas and to equalize the internal pressure and the external one, however at the same time it should avoid hydrate formation. The flooding operation was crucial because it allows futures operation in a safety way. The procedure consisted basically of to “break” the pipeline, with no special tools and no special vessel than RSV and AHST, to keep the method effective in cost and time. The operation was performed on August 2001 with good results. The RG-2 was flooded smoothly and quickly, without evidence of hydrate formation. The gas inside pipe was removed entirely. Also, the operation was performed as forecasted showing consistency between simulation results and observations in site.

Research methodology. The following methods were used in this research: general scientific methods (descriptive, analysis, synthesis, comparison) and special (structural, hermeneutic, narrative, method of content analysis). We identified words related to the concept of the enemy and determined the context in which they are used by the authors of the collections Results. The formats of reflection of military reality in collections of military documentaries are investigated. It is emphasized that the authors-observers of events as professional communicators form a vision of events based on categories understandable to the audience – «own» and «others». Instead, the authors-participants go events have more creative space and pay more attention to their own emotional state and reflections. It is defined how the enemy is depicted and what place he occupies in the military reality represented by the authors. It is emphasized that the authors reflect the enemy in different ways. In particular, the authors-observers of the events tried to form a comprehensive vision of the events, and therefore paid much attention to the opposite side of the military conflict. Authors-participants of the events tend to show the enemy as a mass to be opposed. In such collections, the enemy is specified only in the presence of evidence confirming the presence of Russians or militants. Novelty. The research for the first time investigates the methods of representation of military activity in the collections of Ukrainian military documentaries. The article is devoted to the analysis of how the authors represent the enemy. Practical importance. The analysis of collections of military documentaries will allow to study the phenomenon of war and to trace the peculiarities of the authors’ representation of military reality.
