PowerPC and high-performance computers (HPC) are important resources for computing in the ATLAS experiment. The future LHC data processing will require more resources than Grid computing, currently using approximately 100,000 cores at well over 100 sites, can provide. Supercomputers are extremely powerful as they utilize hundreds of thousands of CPUs joined together. However, their architectures have different instruction sets. ATLAS binary software distributions for x86 chipsets do not fit these architectures, as emulation of these chipsets results in huge performance loss. This paper describes the methodology of ATLAS software installation from source code on supercomputers. The installation procedure includes downloading the ATLAS simulation release code with 0.7 million C++ and Python lines as well as the source code of more than 50 external packages, such as ROOT and Geant4, followed by compilation, and rigorous unit and integration testing. The presentation reports the application of this procedure at Titan HPC and Summit PowerPC at Oak Ridge Computing Facility (OLCF).

In the installation process of large-scale external cladding, the labor intensity is high, and it is dangerous and hard to guarantee good construction quality. In view of these issues, this study designs a construction robot for external cladding installation, as a better solution. First, the advantages and disadvantages of the current building external cladding hanging process are discussed. The components, suitable for automatic installation, are selected to develop an automatic installation process for the building external cladding. According to the process steps and installation action flow, the installation robot is first adjusted. After the design of a step-by-step workflow of positioning and installation, a robot with a six-degree-of-freedom string-mixing mechanism is designed. Finally, a prototype of the proposed external cladding installation robot is developed, and the system is experimentally verified under simulation conditions and real operation. The test results show that the external cladding installation robot system has a strong theoretical basis. The series-parallel hybrid six-degree-of-freedom structure is reasonable, design wise. It helps to complete the automatic installation of the building external cladding and improve the automation level of large-scale plate installations.

Most of the issues regarding power supply occurs due to transmission of power through long distances over diverse and unsuitable landscapes. A solar power plant, if installed within the vicinity of the diverse recipient areas, cuts short the transmission related problems by great numbers and acts like an absolute boon to hilly terrains like Sikkim. The study presented here investigates the land suitability for medium-scale solar power installations in Sikkim by using open source software - Quantum-Geographic Information System (Q-GIS) combined with Multi-criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques. Six exclusion criteria are identified to avoid unsuitable areas for plant installation. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to rank the available areas according to their suitability, which have been further presented in a technology-aided suitability map. Such a study greatly reduces the feasibility related issues for investors in such projects to visit every site available for construction of the plant, saving time and money.

This paper explores the application of human factors methods to the design and documentation of software installation processes and procedures. The study analyzes the installation of a telecommunications operations support system in a workstation-based, distributed computing environment. The long-range goal of the endeavor is to produce usability objectives and guidelines that project teams can use in the development of software installation related procedures and user interfaces. The areas being studied include software installation planning, documentation, training, procedures, and customer support. Methods used include the development of user profiles, interviews with the system administrators, and field observations. Whereas the actual installation of the software proved to be relatively easy, the planning and pre-installation phases proved to be very complex and time-consuming. We explore some of the reasons for this and identify areas that need to be considered when developing software deployment plans and user interfaces.

This paper proposes a software tool to monitor the system configuration for Hospital Management System. The OAM tool monitors the system configurations after the user installs it into the system. The aim of this software is to monitor the system about its configurations and install the required softwares to the respective system. There are four tools in this application, Fintal, Piston, Naavi and Mapel. To install these, a technique of single file installation using batch scripting is used. Batch scripting is used to execute the installation files of softwares and the softwares are installed. These installation files of softwares will be embedded as execution commands in a single file called “windows batch file”, which should be saved with the extension as “.bat”. The installation that starts will be displayed in the command prompt to know whether the softwares are getting installed correctly. After each installation, the configuration and initialization of installed softwares will be displayed. The required softwares are to be installed. Each of these performs particular tasks that are required for the management of Hospitals. Fintal is used for overall management of Hospital. This is the most user-friendly part of OAM Tool. This handles overall administrative part of Hospitals. Piston is used for storing patient’s details. This stores the patients’ reports in detailed manner of each test the patient has undergone. Naavi is used for storing Laboratory details. The tests of each patient are stored here. And the last one, i.e., Mapel which is used for storing pharmaceuticals details (Medicines). It stores the details of medicines such as from which pharmaceuticals the medicines are purchased. The license of the hospital is also stored in this part of OAM Tool. All these together form an OAM Tool. This tool also manages other required softwares like, MySQL, ODBC drivers, etc. The management of Hospitals is very important as there is a need to maintain the patient details. This technique of installation is proposed in this paper to make the installation from hardware to remote installation such as, giving the access to the system in which the tool needs to be installed and to save the time of installation process.

Prediction of energy production is crucial for the design and installation of PV plants. In this study, five free and commercial software tools to predict photovoltaic energy production are evaluated: RETScreen, Solar Advisor Model (SAM), PVGIS, PVSyst, and PV*SOL. The evaluation involves a comparison of monthly and annually predicted data on energy supplied to the national grid with real field data collected from three real PV plants. All the systems, located in Castile and Leon (Spain), have three different tilting systems: fixed mounting, horizontal-axis tracking, and dual-axis tracking. The last 12 years of operating data, from 2008 to 2020, are used in the evaluation. Although the commercial software tools were easier to use and their installations could be described in detail, their results were not appreciably superior. In annual global terms, the results hid poor estimations throughout the year, where overestimations were compensated by underestimated results. This fact was reflected in the monthly results: the software yielded overestimates during the colder months, while the models showed better estimates during the warmer months. In most studies, the deviation was below 10% when the annual results were analyzed. The accuracy of the software was also reduced when the complexity of the dual-axis solar tracking systems replaced the fixed installation.

In recent years, smart road lighting (SRL) design and application researches has been increasing rapidly. However, SRL applications remain pilotproject and cannot become widespread sufficiently. Main reason for this is that, although the cost of production of LED luminaires is reduced, when existing road lighting systems are transformed to LED road lighting, existing electrical installations and lighting poles cannot be used. Increased investment costs due to electrical installation and poles renovation, decrease interest in SRL transformation. In this study, an innovative solution is developed to decrease the costs of the SRL. First, a new LED luminaire is designed, which can work without changing the installations and poles of the existing projects. Then a test road is created using DIALux software, and the newly designed lighting installation is compared with completely redesigned one and conventional road lighting. Thus, contributions are provided for spreading of the SRL transformation, using low cost SRL approach.

Cost estimating and job bidding are among the most complex and time-consuming tasks of landscape professionals. A software package was developed to make cost estimating more accurate and efficient. HORT LAND, computer cost estimator for landscape installation, was developed for IBM compatible PC's using SuperCalc 5 spreadsheet software. The user builds a series of data bases, including an items listing of materials and equipment utilized in his operation along with their associated cost. Then, he defines a series of generic tasks, such as planting a 1-gallon size plant, and refers to the previous items list and associated code numbers for the materials and equipment necessary to install the plant. Once these initial data bases are constructed and saved, the user inputs a plant list, including size and price, then instructs the computer to translate the appropriate data from the initial data bases to arrive at a detailed listing of costs. The program then computes direct job cost and bid price, including overhead and profit.

Abstract In this paper the results of the thermodynamic analysis of the oxy-combustion type pulverized bed boiler integrated with a hybrid, membrane- cryogenic oxygen separation installation are presented. For the calculations a 600 MW boiler with live steam parameters at 31.1 MPa /654.9 oC and reheated steam at 6.15 MPa/672.4 oC was chosen. In this paper the hybrid membrane-cryogenic technology as oxygen production unit for pulverized bed boiler was proposed. Such an installation consists of a membrane module and two cryogenic distillation columns. Models of these installations were built in the Aspen software. The energy intensity of the oxygen production process in the hybrid system was compared with the cryogenic technology. The analysis of the influence of membrane surface area on the energy intensity of the process of air separation as well as the influence of oxygen concentration at the inlet to the cryogenic installation on the energy intensity of a hybrid unit was performed.

This paper presents the development of a visual inspection methodology for engineered wood products that are commonly used in residential construction in the USA. Engineered wood products include wood composite structural elements such as I-joists, oriented strand board, and structural composite lumber products, and metal plate connected wood trusses. Due to the proprietary nature of wood composite engineered products, there are no uniform standards between different manufacturers for installation and use. If improper installation methods are used, engineered wood products may not be able to safely carry design loads. Improper use or modifications constitute prescriptive code violations. Construction errors that result from the unique installation requirements demonstrate the need for specific inspection methods to detect installation errors early in the construction process. The goal of this research is to develop an expert-validated visual inspection methodology, associated knowledge base, and software application for selected engineered wood products and hanger hardware for non-compliance at the pre-drywall stage of new residential construction. A modified Delphi method was used to solicit and refine inspection methods from subject matter experts. Based on these results, an inspection method and computer software application were developed. The method establishes a systematic expert-validated inspection procedure that identifies known high-risk areas for installation problems for engineered wood products. The software contains the instructions for implementing the inspection method, a reference library of authoritative installation guidelines and illustrations, the ability to document observed defects, and a vehicle to create a report. The experts validated the method and software application, and confirmed the usefulness for detecting construction errors.

Nowadays, suicides inside the installations of subway platforms are considered a public health problem in Mexico City. One solution to prevent them is the installation of physical barriers, but their high cost is unattractive for governmental authorities. Traditional approaches of research on the effectiveness of physical barriers for preventing suicides have been limited to analyzing statistically the effects of installing platform screen doors and blue lights on subway platforms. Although considerable progress has been made in this field, many important issues remain unexplored. This study investigates the effectiveness of physical barriers installation for prevention of incidents in Mexico City subway system by means of an agent-based simulation model. Firstly, the design of physical barriers for prevention of incidents in Mexico City subway system is described. Secondly, a conceptual model of the Zócalo station subway platform is presented. Thirdly, an agent-based simulation model of Zócalo station subway platform is implemented using AnyLogic™ software considering normal operations of the subway station. This study shows that physical barriers installation on the Zócalo subway platform can effectively prevent 76% of passenger’s suicides.

Gradients of salts concentrations of the soil solution, rinsing water pressures, filtration coefficients determine the flow intensity of the salt solutions in the aeration zone. There are known a lot of software for calculating the motion of salt solutions in the porous medium. To assess the accuracy of calculations of the salts movement in the soil, the data of gradient measurements are used. The implementation of the known methods of physical modeling on the soil monoliths mounted according to Astapov, lysimetric installations, in experimental leaching of saline soils in the field requires significant material investments, labor and time. Minimum material and labor costs are required for the assembly and use of the proposed design of the installation for physical modeling of saline soil washing. A working prototype of the installation has been developed. It includes piezometers, a case, units of piezometers connection, sampling of soil moisture combined with soil electrodes, equalizing drain, rotating part of the case. Piezometers, drains and connecting hoses, soil moisture sampling unit. The installation case is assembled of separate branch pipes equipped with necks and sealing rings. Filtration investigations and gradient measurements of the salts movement are carried out on the installation. The tests of the installation prototype were fulfilled in the field on the sand pit reclamation map located in the floodplain of the Gzhelka and Moskva rivers of the Ramensk region of the Moscow area. The profile filtration coefficients measured at the installation – 2.33 ± 0.031 m / day and in the field conditions – 2.36 ± 0.041 m / day do not differ significantly.

The offshore installations (safety case) regulations were developed in the UK in 1992 and came into force in 1993 in response to the accepted findings of the Piper Alpha enquiry. Recently, “the offshore installations and wells (design and construction, etc.) regulations” (DCR 1996) were introduced to offshore safety analysis. From the earliest stages of the installation’s life cycle, operators must ensure that all safety-critical elements in both the software and system domains be assessed. Hazards can be identified and the risks associated with them can be assessed and evaluated using a number of techniques and decision-making strategies, all aimed at producing an installation with lifetime safety integrity. In this paper, following a brief review of the current status of offshore safety regulation in the UK, several offshore safety assessment frameworks are presented. These include top-down, bottom-up, probabilistic, and subjective approaches. The conditions under which each approach may be applied effectively and efficiently are discussed. Probabilistic safety-based decision-making and subjective safety-based decision-making are then studied. Two examples are used to demonstrate the decision-making approaches. Recommendations on further development in offshore safety analysis are suggested. [S0892-7219(00)00901-8]

Trends such as the Industrial Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 have increased the need to use new and innovative network technologies in industrial automation. The growth of industrial automation communications is an outcome of the shift to harness the productivity and efficiency of manufacturing and process automation with a minimum of human intervention. Due to the ongoing evolution of industrial networks from Fieldbus technologies to Ethernet, a new opportunity has emerged to harness the benefits of Software Defined Networking (SDN). In this paper, we provide a brief overview of SDN in the industrial automation domain and propose a network architecture called the Software Defined Industrial Automation Network (SDIAN), with the objective of improving network scalability and efficiency. To match the specific considerations and requirements of having a deterministic system in an industrial network, we propose two solutions for flow creation: the Pro-active Flow Installation Scheme and the Hybrid Flow Installation Scheme. We analytically quantify the proposed solutions that alleviate the overhead incurred from the flow setup. The analytical model is verified using Monte Carlo simulations. We also evaluate the SDIAN architecture and analyze the network performance of the modified topology using the Mininet emulator. We further list and motivate SDIAN features and report on an experimental food processing plant demonstration featuring Raspberry Pi as a software-defined controller instead of traditional proprietary Programmable Logic Controllers. Our demonstration exemplifies the characteristics of SDIAN.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) has developed tremendously in the recent years. This paper addresses different flow installation mechanisms. The idea of a programmable network which is the foundation of SDN ensures dynamic network management by separating the control plane from data and management planes. In SDN the control plane resides in SDN Controller, which is responsible for the installation of flows on the data plane. Whenever a flow enters into an SDN switch, flow tables are generated for those flows and installed at data plane from the control plane. These flows have their own properties because of their relevant protocols which are attached to them. A flow consists of a matching pattern, actions, and counter. Based on the respective flow, data communication takes place. This paper investigates three kinds of flow installation mechanisms, reactive, proactive and hybrid. Based on these three flow installation mechanisms, we have analysed the performance of SDN by using different performance metrics. We have used the Mininet and POX controller to evaluate the performance analysis in Ubuntu and Windows-based environments. Finally, we have drawn conclusions

Data warehouses contain numerous software applications and thousands of objects that make those applications work. Many companies maintain multiple data warehouses depending on business requirements for example development, testing and production. Installing objects and keeping them synchronized across all environments can be a challenging task due to the sheer number of objects and complexity. Software objects stored in a Source Control system must be installed on target warehouse environments. Manual copy procedures are possible but very inefficient. Developers spend much time preparing installation and migration scripts that are prone to syntax errors. This paper proposes an Object Migration and Apply Tool (OMAT) that automates software installation across all warehouses for anyone using manual procedures. An automated tool can help eliminate error prone manual procedures, increase flawless object installation and reduce installation time. The OMAT tool is easy to use through a web browser and includes many useful features that support the development life cycle, the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act requirements and enforce numerous business requirements. OMAT is designed to support the construction and maintenance of an enterprise-wide, strategic data warehouse faster and better.

The exploitation of photovoltaic energy has experienced a great growth worldwide in recent years. Photovoltaic installations are characterized by the presence of a large number of devices and elements. This situation makes the operation and performance of a photovoltaic installation dependent of a large number of parameters and variables. Moreover, due to the size of some photovoltaic installations, a high volume of heterogeneous data is produced. Traditional approaches cannot tackle with such a huge amount of generated data. Through the adoption of a software architecture based on Industry 4.0. Key Enabling Technologies (such as Internet of Things and Big Data, among others), it is possible to improve the monitoring and operation procedures of photovoltaic plants.

Docker has become a very popular container-based virtualization platform for software distribution that has revolutionized the way in which scientific software and software dependencies (software stacks) can be packaged, distributed, and deployed. Docker makes the complex and time-consuming installation procedures needed for scientific software a one-time process. Because it enables platform-independent installation, versioning of software environments, and easy redeployment and reproducibility, Docker is an ideal candidate for the deployment of identical software stacks on different compute environments such as XSEDE and Amazon AWS. CyVerse’s Discovery Environment also uses Docker for integrating its powerful, community-recommended software tools into CyVerse’s production environment for public use. This paper will help users bring their tools into CyVerse Discovery Environment (DE) which will not only allows users to integrate their tools with relative ease compared to the earlier method of tool deployment in DE but will also help users to share their apps with collaborators and release them for public use.

DSpace, a free and open-source software (FOSS) provides the digital platform for building collections of an institution. Due to the lack of the skills to install and configure DSpace, librarians are incapable to conduct it even after the awareness about it. Identifying challenges about DSpace installation is vital to increase its use by librarians. Hence, it aims to explore the understanding of DSpace installation among librarians and to identify aspects of their experiences and feelings while installing DSpace. Librarians' experiences and feelings are important for accepting the software. Librarians were interviewed during the training program conducted on digital library technology from December 2020 to January 2021. Two groups were distinguishing from each other: one is with a library science background and another is with computer science and engineering background. The second group aswas self-sustained to install DSpace, once they got the guidelines for installation. Their views were reflected with the code terms status, exploration, feeling, activities, preferences, and inadequacy. Through their experiences, the aspects of challenges are the less experience of using the command line in computer use, the unavailability of teaching courses on Linux operating system in Library and Information Science (LIS) education, and the lack of self-exploration habits. Practice to Linux commands, incorporate the Linux in the Library Science course, self-exploration, and consistent effort will help librarians in installing DSpace by themselves. Finally, librarians should internalize their goal to act as the administrator for the DSpace, not only as of the operator.
