Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe study aimed at evaluating social work fieldwork practice at the University of Limpopo (Turfloop Campus) in relation to theory. The alignment of social work theory and practice is the goal of Social Work profession. Fieldwork practice in social work education forms the practical component of a social work curriculum. It is an essential bridge from classroom to service delivery settings as it provides an opportunity for social work students to connect theoretical education and fieldwork practice. However there is lack of integration between Social Work theory and Social Work fieldwork practice. There is indeed a continuing tension between theory and practice. With regard to the methodology, a combination of quantitative–qualitative research approach was used. Self-administered questionnaires, interview guide and focus group discussions were used to collect data from 3rd year and 4th year social work students as well as agency-based supervisors. The study revealed that social work fieldwork practice is essential for the integration of theory into practice. Therefore the department of Social Work at the University of Limpopo should organize workshops for agency-based supervisors to update their theoretical knowledge base. Fieldwork assessment tool should be reviewed and Social work students should also be involved in the assessment process and self-assessment should also be introduced.
Poggenpoel, Leticia. „Social workers’ perceptions and experiences of fieldwork supervision in the Bachelor of Social Work degree“. The University of the Western Cape, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/6468.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleGenerally, studies on social work supervision, in the university setting, has focused mainly on students’ experiences. Research on the experience of the supervisor, or agency, providing guidance is scant. This study argues that the narrow focus on students’ experiences is disproportionate, and marginalises all the other stakeholders involved in fieldwork education. In addition, the existing studies create blind spots for programme evaluation, as they are not holistic. This current study proposes a broader analysis. Global and national standards for social work training involve the theory and practice component of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme. The practice component requires students to conduct fieldwork training at social work organisations, under the supervision of a qualified and experienced social worker. International and local studies on the supervision of BSW students reveal that social workers often consider themselves to be underprepared to supervise students. In addition, social workers often lack post-qualifying training to undertake student supervision, specifically, which is further exacerbated by the dearth of policies, or legislation, stipulating post-qualifying training and experience for the supervision of BSW students. The purpose of this current study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of social workers, related to fieldwork supervision in the BSW degree, at a selected university in the Western Cape (WC), South Africa (SA). A qualitative research approach was used, as it is attentive to the personal experiences, from the insider’s perspective, and aims to understand multiple realities. This approach is relevant to the current study, as it focuses on exploring and describing the perceptions and experiences of the participants, which the qualitative method underscores. A case study design was utilised, as it is descriptive, and is an in-depth study of a single instance of a social phenomenon. The case, in this instance, is the BSW programme at a selected university. Purposive sampling was used, as the participants, who are most representative of the study, were selected in the sampling process. The sample for this study comprised of twenty four participants: 11 semi-structured interviews were conducted and 13 questionnaires were completed by registered social workers. The following data verification methods were used: http://etd.uwc.ac.za ii member checking (See Annexure J); triangulation; researcher reflexivity; peer debriefing and an on-going dialogue, regarding the researcher’s interpretations of the data, as this aided the accuracy of the findings. Coding was applied by the researcher to create categories within the data, and thematic analysis to further identify the emerging themes and sub-themes, which were subsequently funnelled. Typologies are interpreted and developed, and the data, finally presented. Four themes and sixteen sub-themes emerged from the data (See Chapter 4). The focus of theme four was on continuous professional development (CPD), which reiterates the importance of post-qualifying training of social workers who supervise BSW students, and the importance of this study. This study recommends CPD of all social workers who provide fieldwork supervision in the BSW programme. There is also a need for emotional support for students and essentially fieldwork supervision needs to be viewed as indispensable to academia. An implication of the lack of CPD could be detrimental to students and could lead to stagnation in the field of social work and ultimately affect the standard of the profession.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this study was to investigate field workers' own experiences of relationship building between them and young people on the internet and social media. Eight semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with social field workers from the social services who work with young people on the internet and social media. The collection of empirics has been processed on the basis of hermeneutic tradition and has subsequently been analyzed through the theory of symbolic interactionism. The results show that social field workers use information dissemination, activities and a simplified language on digital platforms as different approaches to create relationships with young people online. The professional’s experience that the benefit of digital field work is that relationship building is not only limited to physical environments. The Internet enables anonymous meetings and for young people to share experiences that they otherwise do not dare to talk about. Social field workers can in their communication use symbols such as emojis to replace the loss of body language, gestures, facial expressions and tone of voice. Challenges that they experience in relationship building are about negative aspects of anonymous meetings and emoji usage, as well as about the legal context of this platform. Anonymous meetings also contribute to social field workers not being able to physically intervene in the event of concerns about young people as they have the opportunity to mask their identity. The professionals feel that emojis can inhibit the establishment of relationships with young people if the young people perceive the tool as inappropriate. Laws regarding social fieldwork online are a significant challenge for the professionals because they experience that they cannot interact with them in ways they want. Finally, the results suggest that face-to-face interaction is of great importance when field workers try to create relationships with young people on digital platforms. This indicates that digital establishments of relationships are more used as a complement to the relationships that are created in physical environments.

The current study has the objective of understanding how the supervision of the field work is being carried out in the eyes of the supervisors that collaborate in the professional development of the students of the Social Work Department of PUC-Rio. As such, a quanti-qualitative study was undertaken which included a mapping of the field placements and their respective supervisors, the application of a questionnaire via e-mail or personally to all social workers whom made up the team of supervisors of the Department in the second semester of 2008, a semistructured interview with eight supervisors from the field and one interview with the professor responsible for the Coordination of Field Placement at the Department. The interviews were recorded with the permission of the interviewees, transcribed and analyzed in light of the central categories of the study: professional development, field work and supervision. The results indicates a necessity of formative preparation to exercise the supervision of the students, as even these days there are many obstacles and difficulties which permeate this activity, indicating that it will become the priority in the professional development of the social work, beginning with the communications between all involved in this process, as well as the necessity of a better approach among the educational institution, the field work institutions and the supervisors.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research investigates education strategies for field instructors working with undergraduate social work students. Social work students at the University of Stellenbosch receive practical experience and education at welfare institutions as part of their formal education. During this practice education period students are guided and educated by field instructors. Practice education of undergraduate social work students is a demanding responsibility to field instructors and knowledge and skills are required to complete the task successfully. During the practice education period, field instructors are still confronted with their own work pressure and environmental demands in practice, along with the practice education of undergraduate social work students. The basic premise for this research is focused on the importance of the role of field instructors during the field practice period, as well as the importance of continuous education to these field instructors. This research report includes 'n thorough literature study that refers to the knowledge and skills that are required of field instructors for practice eduaction of students. The partnership between the educational institution and practice education agency are discussed and the roles, tasks and expectations of the partners are described in the chapters. Both parties are responsible for the education of field instructors and several educational strategies are examined. As a conclusion, educational strategies for field instructors are discussed and recommendations are made. The empirical research involved the use of both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the theoretical part of the research. An explorary study was used to obtain the information from respondants. The findings and results of the research are analized and compared with the literature and some recommendations are made. The findings of this research can be used as guidelines for the education of field instructors concerned with the education of undergraduate social work students. Field instructors contribute to the education of professional social workers and all parties involved in the education process should bare a responsibilty to participate in field instructors' education.

Thesis, Uppsala University, Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology, 2005. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-6254.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis paper concerns the changes in attitudes towards the use of force within the South African police force after democratisation. The paper debates the current approaches towards the analysis of violence and a new theory on community and conflict management is developed. This new theory aims to provide a new framework for analysing the use of violence. The theory is then applied on a fieldwork conducted at a local police station in Cape Town, South Africa.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis concerns methodological matters existing in the situation of fieldwork. Here the qualitative survey realized in the frame of this research was to explore minor health issues. The survey conducted on bloating issue does notably shed light on the ‘interactional game’ between a female interviewee and a female interviewer revealing the key concepts of stigma and secrecy. Indeed, the analysis of social interactions between both actors incites to perceive the notion of fieldwork as a process where different phases decline and interact altogether. From the recruitment procedure to the closure of the survey, the effects of the investigation are observed and analyzed through a dual “eye”, the interviewee and interviewer. We qualify this methodological approach as “interactive observation”. This “interactive observation” feeds its very principle within the methodology relative to the ideas of participative-observation and the tradition of symbolic interactionism. A reflection is lead on the effects of reciprocity between the elaboration of the fieldwork’s strategies and the unfolding of the study submitted to the unpredictability of the fieldwork

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn Italy the expression “Rom camps” is used to refer both to informal settlements like slums and shantytowns and to urban areas formally built by local administrations, specifically inhabited by groups ethnically defined as Roma and situated in peripheral and low-value areas. The official institution of these settlements caused the growing marginalization of its dwellers and a series of urban conflicts. Once national authorities recognized the substantial failure of segregation policies, a new political phase – focused on “overcome” the camps issue – has been declared. This work analyses the meanings, representations and strategies connected with the resettlement of an extended family in the city of Turin and the meanings, representations and strategies of the actors of the urban governance aimed at “overcoming” the Roma issue: from projects of urban renewal to rehousing projects and evictions.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleCannabis is the most common illegal drug in Sweden, and its consumption is constantly increasing. The massive rise in fatal shootings in recent years is believed to be a result of conflicts between criminal networks regarding cannabis sales. To address these issues, we must first learn more about the places in which cannabis occurs, particularly dealing. This study aims to provide an insight into what these places look like, what characterizes them, and why these are selected for drug-related activities, with the aim of offering suggestions on how they could be designed to prevent the dealing of cannabis. The study was carried out through fieldwork and the utilization of a special fieldwork protocol in which variables intended to describe conditions in the environment were assessed. The data came from police records of arrests for suspicions of selling cannabis during the years 2019– 2020. What can be said is that a typical place was in a residential area with multi-storey buildings, separated from large crowds and traffic, open with good visibility, and with good accessibility. The results obtained were then analyzed in relation to criminological theories, to create a greater understanding of why the crimes occur right there. In order to prevent the cannabis dealing in these places, proposed solutions have been put forward based on principles in the CPTED strategy. These include increased surveillance from surrounding buildings and taking up the fight about the social space by creating a sense of increased territoriality in the places. The report ends with an evaluation of the method used and a discussion about the complexity of solving the problems solely through measures in the urban environment, as there are a number of other factors that come into play. What we urban planners can offer are alternative solutions that may curb crime, but in the end, it is individuals who decide to commit these criminal acts.
Douzou, Marion. „Le conservatisme américain en mouvement : enquête sur le Tea Party en Pennsylvanie“. Thesis, Lyon, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017LYSE2136.
Der volle Inhalt der QuellePennsylvania is a complex state in its economic, urban, and racial geographies, accordingly complex is the electoral behavior of its citizens. This thesis examines the ways in which Tea Party groups in Pennsylvania mobilized and organized. The often overlooked conservative tradition of William Penn’s state makes it an excellent case study to examine the evolution and mutations of the conservative movement and of its electoral arm, the Republican party. The fieldwork conducted in this thesis shows that the Tea Party cannot be understood without taking into account a great number of national and local groups, think tanks, and media personalities with whom it often has chaotic relationships. This work focuses on the evolution of a visible social movement into a political mobilization that targets the state and local levels. Local Tea Party groups, who are opposed to any form of institutionalization, fight to snatch power from the hands of the GOP establishment to give it back to the voters. Gradual infiltration of the Republican party, constant pressure on elected officials, ideological work conducted by advocacy organizations, and concerted action in Congress have driven the GOP towards a brand of conservatism that rejects any idea of compromise in governing. Despite a drop in the number of activists, the Tea Party movement has subjected the conservative movement and the Republican party to heavy ideological pressure, which partly explains the current confusion in the country’s political landscape
Styrenius, Jakob. „Organisationskultur ur två perspektiv : En jämförande studie av två etnografier ifrån socialantropologi och organisationsteori“. Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Culture and Communication, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-16757.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study aims to compare two ethnographies of organizational culture – one from the discipline of Social Anthropology and one from the discipline of Organizational Studies – considering their purpose, their method, and their concept of culture. Despite big similarities, or perhaps thanks to the similarities, some fundamental differences are made visible. The discipline of Organizational Studies has, compared to that of Social Anthropology, regarding the research method being used, less focus on, and less participation in, the informal social life of the organizational culture of the study. Regarding the concept of culture the Organizational Studies consider culture containing more of unity, stability and clear boundaries, compared to Social Anthropology. Further – the Organizational Studies has more focus on power and structure, while Social Anthropology has more focus on meaning and interpretation. Finally – the research purpose of studies in Organizational Studies is a bit more normative in its characteristic, than that of Social Anthropology. The study is concluded with a discussion of the future of Social Anthropology and its studies of organizational culture. An argumentation is conducted intended to get the two disciplines to learn from each other in the area of organizational culture, and also intended to show the discipline of Social Anthropology a road to relevant studies in the area of organizational culture.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe dissertation is an approach to the description of Saamaka (Saramaka, Saramaccan) language, an English and Portuguese-based creole spoken in Suriname and French Guiana. The main perspective of the study is synchronic, but it also takes into account the diachronic dimension of the language to try to understand the origin and development of certain aspects (of creoles languages). The methodology used to collect data included data elicitation, recorded text analysis and immersion. The research is based on my own data, obtained from the fieldwork I conducted in Suriname and French Guiana, hosted by the Laboratoire des Sciences Sociales de l’Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement (IRD). While working on the thesis, I made five brief trips to the region: Cayenne (capital of French Guayana), a Saamaka village in the West of Guiana and to the traditional territory in the interior of Suriname. I have taken into account the previous studies on Saamaka language and other languages included in the same group of Surinamese creoles, and also the literature devoted to general theoretical discussion on the origin and development of creole languages. This dissertation is not based on a question to be answered or a hypothesis to be validated, but rather is a description of some aspects of a language. It does not adhere to any of the current trends in creolistic studies; every question could have a different ad hoc explanation. The study is divided into seven chapters and has two appendices.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis focuses on a social critical phenomenon that recently has gained in importance in Quebec: the rise of popular resistance groups against the exploitations of natural resources. Based on an empirical study, the author explores the questions of collective struggles and highlights the various modalities of commitments that, by their structures and compositions, of "expert systems", are reflected in the public space that, slowly, becomes an important factor in the political arena. The dynamics of these resistance movements also tend to influence upstream development projects and to materialize downstream, in the early stages of territorial appropriation, that is to say, the first exploratory work as such. Based on the observation of Terra Ventures project on Quebec’s North-Shore uranium explorations, the author focuses on the multiple collective references that are all perspectives of understanding for this phenomenon. Through the study of this popular resistance, specifically in the city of Sept-Îles, which has emerged against the explorative project, it is the Quebec mining industry, its history, its myths, and its memory that appear as a fundamental landmark.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn the place of Passinhos de Cima, parish of Paredes de Viadores and municipality of Marco de Canaveses, from March to October 2017, I did not only do a research but also a documentary of ethnographic character. For reasons of size I did not attach the film in this project, but I lodged it at the following link: https://youtu.be/9-2v5XQxFcA. The relationship between what enters and what leaves this place, from what is absorbed there to what is projected from there is the focus of this project. When I am referring to absorbing, I am referring to the way in which the cycles of nature mark the lives of the people who live there and how much it influences how they represent themselves and reveal their own nature and identity. In this text I will address not only the way this whole process was articulated, but also the way in which, in search of an analysis and its writing, I developed and represented it in this film. Between reality and representations, the direction of this project is at the centre of the question that I want to deal with, the very process of ethnographic work.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleEmpirical and theoretical exploration of the constraints acting on the professionnal practice of music criticism in the Montreal’s media industry and in the context of market competition. To do so, the author conducted a qualitative sociological fieldwork with a sample of ten musical hosts and journalists from Montreal. The author develops a theory that to criticize is to sort and to select according to taste using a concept called the “ETC dynamic“. In this process, aesthetic experiences are filtered by taste, which produces answers that become art critiques. The study begins by exploring the way the market economy shapes the media culture and influences the journalistic critical work. Then the author studies the social factors that drive some people to speak about music in the media as music hosts and journalists. It is shown that the factors inciting the practice of musical hosting are not the same as the factors inciting the practice of musical journalism. Musical hosts are “asthetic conservatives” who constantly like to share their passion, while musical journalists are « aesthetic progressive » who prefer to give their opinion explicitly when necessary but not all the time. In all cases, musical hosts and journalists are to be understood as « aesthetic militants »: people who try to convince as well as acquire critical prestige and authority.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis report results from the internship developed within the master’s degree in Territorial Management, specialization in Planning and Spatial Management. The internship took place at Associação Insular de Geografia, located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, more precisely in Câmara de Lobos municipality, between November 2018 and April 2019. The aim of this report is to show the importance of fieldwork in geography, in collecting authentic geographic information for teaching and learning in geography. Demonstrate the relevance of Information and Communication Technologies in the contemporary world, combined with the potential in the combination of Geographic Information Systems software’s with the processes of Public Participation and the inherent benefits at the local level. The use of Geographic Information Systems becomes an ally in Public Participation processes. It has become increasingly important in the field of geographical science, given the value of planning the territory in such way that wishes to satisfy the citizens that live in that area, by following a sustainable policy. The creation of an online service platform that will be able to respond more effectively to the internal management needs of the Câmara de Lobos Parish Councils, improve communication with local populations and promote greater civic participation are the premises of the project in course at Associação Insular de Geografia which I integrated during my internship – E-freguesias project. I describe their expected stages of development until the implementation phase and the methodologies used. At the end of this report, an approach to the internship and the importance of having been integrated into it and actively participating in it, for the development of personal and professional skills.
