A plane is a tool related to woodworking, which is used for smoothening the surface of the wood. Currently, there are many different smoothing planes available in the market. In this study, the evaluation of a self-made hand plane was conducted. One of the variables that can be utilized to investigate smoothing plane’s performance is by analyzing its wood’s surface smoothening capability. In this reserch, the smoothening capability was evaluated by measuring the wood’s surface roughness after the smoothening process. This study was conducted by utilizing three different types of wood namely limestone wood, meranti wood, and kempas wood as well as three different planes that are a mini plane (self-made tool), a commercial plane, and a power planer. The results show that prior to smoothening process, the maximum surface roughness was 16.432 µm for wet limestone wood and the minimum was 7,871 µm for kempas oven wood. After the smoothening process, the surface maximum roughness values are 10,932 µm using hand mini plane, 12,329 µm for kapur basah wood with the commercial plane for kapur basah wood and minimum roughness of 4,982 µm obtained hand mini plane for meranti oven wood and 5,826 µm for meranti oven wood with the commercial plane. It was also observed that the self-made mini plane gave lower values of surface roughness compared to commercial plane. Thus, it could be summarized that the self-made plane (mini hand plane) is capable to be used for the wood surface smoothening and it has better performance compared to the commercial plane.

The paper reports on the results of experimental-traceological study of stone tools used for metal forging by the Late Bronze Age population of the Middle Tobol River region (Western Siberia). The chronological span of the study, according to the radiocarbon dating, extends from the 17th to 9th centuries BC. This paper aims to substan-tiate and expand the existing knowledgebase on the metalwork production with the aid of experiments in forging copper and bronze. The research materials include about 60 stone tools from the Late Bronze Age sites and 23 experimental tools. The trace evidence analysis and microphotography of the signs of use-wear have been performed using a continuous-zoom microscope MC-2 ZOOM with 10х to 40х magnification and a Canon EOS-1100-D camera. The experimental study involved cold and hot forging of copper and bronze items with different tin content and their surface smoothening. As a result, the efficiency of the stone tools in molding has been con-firmed. The signs of use-wear of the tools have been recorded. Distinctive use-wear features of hammers for cold and hot forging associated with the tool kinematics have been identified. It has been concluded that the wear signs on the hammers used for incomplete hot and hot forging were identical. It appeared that the smooth working area of some flatters was the result of preliminary abrasive treatment. Smoothening and drawing proved efficient in processing of copper items and low-alloyed bronzes. This treatment was carried out on the hot metal. It has been ascertained that the kinematics of processing of the copper and bronze items was the same. The signs of usage of the tools employed for shaping bronze moldings with different tin content differ from those on the tools used on copper by more extensive chipping, which is due to a higher hardness of tin-copper alloys. Prototype multi-functional tools used in different operations, viz., forging and drawing, have been identified. Their specific is the working area with a combination of several groups of wear marks overlapping each other. Therefore, we managed to produce a series of the experimental tools used in copper and bronze forging. This allowed us to elaborate the functional identification and technology of some archaeological instruments from the Late Bronze Age sites of the forest-steppe Tobol River region.

Nowadays, it is more important than ever to meet the increasing technical and statutory requirements and to develop new process strategies. In sheet metal forming the low consumption of oil lubrication gets an increasingly important role. The aim in sheet metal forming is to reduce the amounts of lubricants. In the long term, the future sheet metal processing should be able to completely dispense without mineral oil-containing lubricants. Two promising approaches for a dry process design are combined in this paper for the first time and the fundamental feasibility of this new hybrid technology is shown. On the one hand, a novel approach for temporary lubrication of deep-drawing processes with CO2 as a volatile medium is used. On the other hand, it is supported by the application of an additional hard coating system such as a silicon nitride (Si3N4) or tungsten doped a-C:H multilayered (Cr/CrNx/a-C:H:W/a-C:H) coating system to further reduce tool wear and wear debris of the formed sheets made of DC04 (mat. no.: 1.0338). The results show a low coefficient of friction and reduced wear. Especially for the carbon coating system, there is minor tool wear at a higher surface pressure. By means of the graphite constituent, even a smoothening of the roughness peaks can be recorded. The next step would be the implementation of this hybrid technology on a tool for deep drawing a rectangular cup.

The shift to the knowledge-based economy and fast technological development put pressure on higher educational institutions with regard to the modernization of curricula, providing possibilities to overcome the skill gap and finding new tools for ensuring the quality of education services that correspond with the labor market needs. The purpose of the paper is to present the analysis of challenges and results of a currently piloted tool – dual studies – based on best German applied education practices. Authors investigate formal and informal obstacles for the introduction of this innovation in the national context, as well as solutions and potential benefits. The latter are social (decreasing the graduates’ unemployment level), economic (providing the labor market with well-educated labor force equipped with relevant qualifications) and individual (image improvement of companies, advancement of higher educational institution competitiveness and financial support of students, as well as smoothening the shift to the world of work) both short- and long-term. However, despite clear positive socio-economic effects, the dynamics of dual studies introduction as an innovation by stakeholders is far from optimistic due to the unfinished process of the formation of approaches to the dual studies management, which undermines the development of cooperation networks of the three key stakeholders – a higher educational establishment, a company and a student. There is also a current need in updating teaching methodologies, development of new relevant educational programs, curricula, modernization of the content of pre-tertiary and tertiary professional education based on an integrated approach and dual education principles. With regard to the above-listed tasks to be solved and despite a number of structural obstacles, the dual form of education is being implemented in Ukraine, which adds up to building social partnerships between educational institutions, students and employers.

Flooding is a wide-range natural hazard that noticeably damages property, people, and the environment. In the context of climate change, the integration of spatial planning with flood-risk management has gained prominence as an approach to mitigating the risks of flooding. Land use is regulated through various mixes of top-down laws, regulations and governance structures and sets of locally based practices that can vary widely across localities and contexts. These under-researched aspects can often make the difference between success and failure in implementing new insights and proposals for better nature-based and diverse technological solutions for flood storage. Generally, water management has first dealt with technical and hydrological issues before addressing land management, and then found implementation to be hampered by the lack of land management approaches. Land owners/users are often regarded as mere recipients of water management, not as key stakeholders. Most existing research initiatives on water-related risks focus on technical or hydrological aspects, forecasting, disaster management, or institutional governance aspects. Approaches for collaborating with private land users to realize mitigation and adaptation measures on private land are lacking both in theory and practice. The absence of dialogue tools and collaborative approaches, lack of access to integrated and high-quality information and technologies and tools to use information, are among the factors that impede this integration. Limited research has been conducted to develop a framework and to investigate the interplay between involvement, information and technologies in this integration. These shortcomings could be resolved through an integrated approach which can be based on the features and characteristics of an environmental citizenship. Based on the definition provided by ENEC, an environmental citizen has the necessary knowledge, skills, values, and beliefs to effective public participation and stakeholders’ engagement in solving controversial environmental problems and therefore to negotiate land for flood within a sustainable context. Starting from the definitions of environmental citizen and environmental citizenship, this paper will try to provide an approach for smoothening the process of negotiating land for flood as a key tool for mitigating the risk of flooding through sustainable cooperation with land users.

Strong high-frequency excitation (HFE) may change the "slow" (i.e. effective or average) properties of mechanical systems, e.g. their stiffness, natural frequencies, equilibriums, equilibrium stability, and bifurcation paths. This tutorial describes three general HFE effects: Stiffening — an apparent change in the stiffness associated with an equilibrium; Biasing — a tendency for a system to move towards a particular state which does not exist or is unstable without HFE; and Smoothening — a tendency for discontinuities to be apparently smeared out by HFE. The effects and a method for analyzing them are introduced, first in terms of simple physical examples, and then in generalized form for mathematical models covering broad classes of discrete and continuous mechanical systems. Several application examples are summarized. Three mathematical tools for analyzing HFE effects are described and compared: The Method of Direct Separation of Motions, the Method of Averaging, and the Method of Multiple Scales. The tutorial concludes with a suggestion that more vibration experts, researchers and students should be aware of HFE effects, for the benefit of general vibration troubleshooting, and also for furthering the creation of innovative technical devices and processes utilizing HFE effects.

Flash is the unwanted or excessrubber material that presents on the outersurface of themolded rubber product. This will affect the surface finish; it is a cosmetic defect andit can be removed. It forms because of the leak or the excess molded rubber materialbetween the surface of the mold, typically on the parting line, (Jordan Anderson,2014). The presence of flash will reduce customer satisfaction. There are manymethods to remove the flash. The method is selected according to the degree of flashextension and the location where it occurs. The project aims to design a semi/full automated machine, which helps for having asmooth and fine surface finish of the weight plates. These plates are made up of rubberfor the ELEIKO group. The weight plates have different weights from 10 to 20 kg,but the diameter of each plate stays the same, but the thickness will be different foreach plate. The machine should be designed that removes all the excess rubber andshould smoothen the outer surface of the weight. The purpose of this work is to gainknowledge about different product development methods, respective tools, andtechniques that are used. The machine should be user- friendly, should not becomplicated, should not damage the workpiece (marks or trace of the blade), shouldnot put the employer in danger, and economically feasible. This report presents the progress of designing of the product, product development, methods, and literature study. The designed model can construct in the industry fortheir problem they are faced by the flash. The model is very simple and unique so thateveryone can perform the task without any previous experience. Material alternativeswere evaluated as well as manufacturing possibilities.
