We have examined the dynamics of the longitudinal magnetic field of active region NOAA 12673, using data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). During the passage of the active region (AR) across the solar disk, its spots and background fields showed complex motion trajectories, and numerous small-scale short-lived local polarity inversion lines (LPILs) were formed when new magnetic fluxes appeared in the AR and came closer to fields of opposite polarity. The length of LPILs was less than 15.000 km (~20 arcsec); their lifetime was several hours. Study of the flare activity of NOAA 12673 has shown that low-power flares (optical class S, area ˂2 sq. degrees) generally occur near LPILs. Before small flares and the September 06, 2017 large flare (optical importance 3B, X-ray class X9.3), in limited sites of local and main polarity inversion lines there were shear stresses and an increase in the magnetic field gradient: in the region of low-power flares, to 1.3–1.5 G/km; in the region of the large flare, 3–3.5 G/km. The results obtained suggest that the longitudinal magnetic field behaves similarly before both small and large flares.

In this article, we reflect on the gendered contours of young Kashmiris’ dissident practices against the Indian military occupation of the Kashmir Valley. It is largely based on ethnographic research that coincided with the launch of an ongoing, predominantly nonviolent people’s movement in which youth have played a prominent role. The article shows how university students’ and young professionals’ “small activism” is entangled in the gendered dynamics of militarization and dissent, while underlining the threat posed by “security forces” to women’s “honor” and “dignity.” In the context of widespread societal anxiety about “dishonor,” young Kashmiris’ urge to reclaim dignity at once motivates them to practice dissent and narrows the scope for female dissidents’ capacity to act upon this drive overtly. The present case suggests that recent anthropological interest in global youth cultural practices may be supplemented with a recognition of local constraints on young people’s public opposition that arise in circumstances of (gendered) state oppression.

This paper discusses the issue of small government in Korea by way of reviewing a recent article on the subject published in Spring, 1492 in the Korean Public Administration Review. The article is by four Korean political scientists led by Dong-Suh Bark. The Korea's Fifth Republic of the 80s under Chun Doo-Whan first broached small government. Largely, to redeem his couptarnished Fifth Republic, Chun streamlined the bureaucracy. This resulted in personnel reduction, consolidation, and the adoption of a zero-base budget. The Sixth Republic under Roh Tae-Woo formed a group to study governmental reform. Nothing much came of it, however, as Roh gave way to pressures resisting change. Corning into power in 1993, Kim Young-Sam, the reform-minded president of the Seventh Republic has put forth small government as a part of his overall reform agenda.

Although a separate analysis of the system of entrepreneurial activity was first started in the West, it is known that multifaceted knowledge related to its essence and development was formed in the East and then promoted in the West. Especially, they are expressed in the teachings that were formed in this direction and have their place in life. It is known that on December 7, 2010, at the solemn meeting dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.A. Karimov said: "Continuously continuing the path of modernization of our country is the most important part of my progress." gave a lecture on the topic of "the year of mankind". 2011 was announced as the "Year of Small Business and Private Entrepreneurship" in our country.

AbstractDespite the success of lidar in making ancient features visible in certain tropical environments, researchers often have difficulty using lidar to identify small, low, non-linear features. This study juxtaposes lidar data with data gathered from pedestrian survey along the Ucí-Cansahcab causeway, located in the Northern Maya lowlands, to assess the degree to which the invisibility of small buildings in lidar imagery affects demographic research. The juxtaposition shows that demographic research with lidar can move forward in some cases once pedestrian survey has been used as a baseline to establish correction factors for using lidar data on their own. Another current barrier to the use of lidar is cost. This paper provides examples of the kinds of questions that can be addressed by projects with smaller budgets and, therefore, smaller amounts of lidar coverage. These questions include site size comparisons and the degree to which settlement clustered around ancient features such as the Ucí-Cansahcab causeway.

Abstract. The interplay between clouds and aerosols and their contribution to the radiation budget is one of the largest uncertainties of climate change. Most work to date has separated cloudy and cloud-free areas in order to evaluate the individual radiative forcing of aerosols, clouds, and aerosol effects on clouds. Here we examine the size distribution and the optical properties of small, sparse cumulus clouds and the associated optical properties of what is considered a cloud-free atmosphere within the cloud field. We show that any separation between clouds and cloud free atmosphere will incur errors in the calculated radiative forcing. The nature of small cumulus cloud size distributions suggests that at any resolution, a significant fraction of the clouds are missed, and their optical properties are relegated to the apparent cloud-free optical properties. At the same time, the cloudy portion incorporates significant contribution from non-cloudy pixels. We show that the largest contribution to the total cloud reflectance comes from the smallest clouds and that the spatial resolution changes the apparent energy flux of a broken cloudy scene. When changing the resolution from 30 m to 1 km (Landsat to MODIS) the average "cloud-free" reflectance at 1.65 μm increases more than 25%, the cloud reflectance decreases by half, and the cloud coverage doubles, resulting in an important impact on climate forcing estimations. The apparent aerosol forcing is on the order of 0.5 to 1 Wm−2 per cloud field.

The WeeFestival, English Canada’s first performance festival dedicated to children from ages 0 to 5, acts as an advocate for the early years demographic and for the artists who create for them through three key elements of festival structure: programming, space, and creative/artistic exchange. Engaging with research by Ben Fletcher-Watson, Lise Hovik, Matthew Reason, and Adele Senior, this article uses company archives, artist interviews, and the writer’s personal experiences to analyze how the WeeFestival temporarily establishes an alternative public sphere that challenges policy-makers, funders, and artists to rethink relationships between arts, very young citizens, and urban life. Even though very young citizens may not initially know that they want to experience art, the festival attends to the interests and responses of young people, demonstrates respect for their capacity to be emotionally and intellectually engaged by artful and thoughtful productions, and establishes festivalized spaces that put an alternative public sphere into action, gesturing to the possibility of real social change. Taking into account the significance of programming for artists, educators, and policy-makers alongside the significance of meaningful audience-artist exchange, the analysis suggests that events like the WeeFestival have the capacity to gently shift how urban dwellers perceive very young children and the way they interact with the arts in daily life.
