The area of the primeval valley of the Malczewski stream, located on the border of two blocks of flats inside the Radom housing estate Południe, has remained undeveloped for over twenty years. The existing stand is mainly self-seeding with the dominance of Salix alba (32%) and Populus tremula (16%). In addition, there are: Alnus incana (11%), Quercus rubra (10%), Acer negundo (7%) and others. There are no paved pedestrian routes. The conceptual design of the new development of the valley is a response to the needs of local residents. The project involves the creation of a square in the middle of the plot, with a focal point in the form of a fountain. Provides for the separation of an area with sports and recreational functions with a fitness and skate park, as well as two playgrounds for children. There is also a designated area for a dog paddock. A part of the park with a roofed gazebo and three paved squares with stone barbecues will serve as a recreation and leisure function for entire families. Referring to the names of the surrounding housing estate Południe and associations with the sun - the place was given the name of Sunny Park. The name of the park is underlined by the arrangement of alleys, reflecting the journey of the sun in the sky.

Grounded on theoretical assumptions of Cultural Studies, Feminist Studies and Gender Studies, particularly on their post‐structuralist stream, as well as on studies by Michel Foucault, I have analyzed in this investigation the ways through which skaters have constructed their places as subjects in this sport universe, and the gender representations that revolve around that practice. I understand that the different positions that subjects occupy in society are not taken for granted; in fact, they are negotiated, reorganized, and constructed inside social practices and discourses that involve power relations. In order to carry out this analysis, my research sources were different materials produced by women skaters, such as Web sites, blogs, magazines, virtual communities, zines, folders, reports, and interviews, in addition to several documents that have taken that sport as a theme in Brazil. Taking all that as privileged sources of information, I have problematized discourses and practices that have given little visibility to women in the skate universe, which has been represented as a practice that is culturally more associated to the male universe than to the female one in different contexts. Understanding skating as a space crossed by power relations, I have shown different strategies adopted by female skaters to achieve visibility in a sport that, in Brazil, is being constructed. Due to this assumption, female skaters have searched for distinct ways of making themselves visible, even in terms of their femininity. Thus, they have created possibility conditions both to be able to show what they know and to position themselves as subjects of this practice.

The objective of this project is to report the experience of producing an educational/sports program to teach skateboarding, in this way a Learning Object (LO) was created, which relies on the internet as a platform for circulation and dissemination. The content of this LO aims to teach the bases of skateboard, explaining the nomenclature of the sport, with the allowance of visual effects inserted in real time through the Augmented Reality (AR) and the theoretical concepts of Edutertainment, which consists of creating a favorable environment that teaches entertaining. This work presents experiments made with ARSTUDIO, a low cost virtual studio system under development at UNESP / Bauru and experiments done with a home system developed by the researcher, both allow the creation of scenes with RA, integrating environment and real presenters with objects three-dimensional virtual worlds. As a methodology for the production of this dissertation, an exploratory research was conducted on convergent academic contents of knowledge and a participatory research where the creative steps of pre-production, production, post-production and experiences of recording and live transmission with RA are presented. This project also proposes a solution so that members of the participatory Internet culture can generate audiovisual products at low cost, by using RA, and thus attend the production of audiovisual content. Finally, a comparative test of the experiments and techniques used is carried out.

The present project has been created with the main purpose of implementing a feasible business for the creation of a company that commercializes furniture organizers of bicycles, skates, and scooters; through two products: DISOR Kids and DISOR Adults. The problem of the disorder generated in the homes was observed in this market due to not having assigned a specific space to said vehicles on wheels. Also, there is a need to keep their home with an attractive and harmonious decoration both inside and outside, even more when it comes to small spaces. For this reason, an opportunity is observed for a product that mix attributes of an innovative and functional design. It is also considered that one of the determining factors for the public is the exclusivity in products as personal as the home furniture. In order for the business to be carried out in a feasible way, strategies were proposed that will allow DISOR to develop in a highly competitive market within the furniture industry and differentiate DISOR as a product that all potential customers should have, as well as keep them loyal thanks to a personalized service and post service.

The assignment is an architecture and urban planning study of a sports and recreation center. The solved area is located in the town of Vsetín, in the part called Ohrada. Nowdays, the area is obsolete, unfunctional and also unmodern. My project is mainly focused to create a concept that responds to the environment, offers outdoor and indoor spaces for all generations. It allows better connection with nature, variable use, and division of area by function. The design is defined by the river Bečva on the west side and a busy 1st class road on the east side. It was important to separate pedestrians and cyclists from motor vehicles. The response to this restriction is to direct traffic in the area to the west, towards the river. This creates a terrain works that optically deflects the design in a quieter direction. Buildings are placed in the line and oriented in the western direction. After creating the terrain, I divided the area into several segments according to functionality. In the heart of the area, a multifunctional central hall with an inner climbing wall is set in the terrain. In front of it is a public space for meetings, sports and recreation. On the other side, there is a basketball court, a workout playground, a children's playground in front of the hall and a rest area of ??greenery closer to the river. If we continue southerly down, another cube set into the terrain is a building with a restaurant and a cafe. The southernmost building is a tennis club with facilities for athletes and squash. In front of the building there is a 9x tennis court with a grandstand. Closer to the river and the bike path there is an outdoor climbing wall. From the newly created embankment, the area is divided by a cycle path around the river. Behind the bridge is a green belt separated area which, unlike the previous ones, is tuned in a calmer spirit. We will find a building of a yoga and meditation center.

I got my first and only skateboard, a used Alva, in 1980, the summer between sixth and seventh grades. This was the summer when Peter Hoeffel introduced my middle brother Brian and me to the Sex Pistols, Devo, and the Clash. Peter was also a skater, and he made it clear that in order to be “punk” we had to build a skateboard ramp in our backyard, so we too could become skate punks. At the time there was no such thing as street skating and no skate parks in our hometown, Green Bay, Wisconsin, so building a ramp was our only option....

This chapter shows the process whereby a particular skate spot becomes a subcultural landmark. This focus on skating in public space touches many of the debates in urban sociology about the use and abuse of space. This more theoretical chapter reviews some of the literature surrounding public space and argues that skateboarding creates its own landmarks by taking the banal and the everyday, like a set of stairs, and turning it into a place to perform, to talk about, and to cherish. In this way spots become part of the historical legacy of the culture.

This article examines how the methodology ‘theatrical chiasma’ can open up the material when working in a theatre production, so that you do not abort or ‘close’ the creative process too soon. The method is based on a crossing-over principle, where the students can try different inputs to the creative material through various working methods. The article analyses the dramaturgical entry points in light of Shusterman’s theory of ‘art as dramatization’. Central findings are that dramatisation as a framework helps to focus the content and creates awareness about form. The method also facilitates the connection between visions, form and content, so that aesthetic alignment also becomes an important part of the students’ learning process. Dramatisation can be seen as art in itself, because it is an active theatre rehearsal with intrinsic value, where creation and reflection are essential to create new artistic significance.

What place did Harvard College have in the modern University, with its expansive central administration, research-driven faculty, ambitious and high-powered professional schools? A much more important one than this litany of potential threats might suggest. The College remained the most conspicuous and prestigious part of the University. It produced the most generous donors; it outclassed its rivals in attracting the most sought-after students; it exemplified Harvard in the public mind. And it shared in the worldly ambience of the late-twentieth-century University. For decades, Harvard College admissions was a battleground over who would be accepted and on what grounds access would be granted. The admission of Jews was a touchstone issue in the conflict between the Brahmin and meritocratic impulses from the 1920s to the 1950s. Then another problem came to the fore: how to choose a freshman class from a swelling number of qualified applicants. As selection became ever more complex and arcane, the sheer size and quality of the applicant pool enabled the dean of admissions and his staff, rather than the faculty, to define the terms of entry. The result was that classes were crafted to be outstanding in more than purely academic-intellectual terms. Intellectual superstars were a small group of near-certain admits. After that, a solid level of academic ability set an admissions floor, above which character, extracurricular activities, artistic or athletic talent, “legacy” status, and geographical diversity figured in the admissions gene pool. After the 1960s, diversity came to embrace race and gender. Chase Peterson, who was dean of admissions during the tumultuous years from 1967 to 1972, thought that during his time the criteria for selection broadened to include tenacity, perseverance, having learned something deeply and well, social generosity, intellectual openness, and strength of character. A statement on admissions desiderata in the 1990s included “honesty, fairness, compassion, altruism, leadership, and initiative” and stressed: “We place great value in a candidate’s capacity to move beyond the limits of personal achievement to involvement in the life of the community at large.” One of Dean of Admissions Wilbur Bender’s 1950s ideal admits, a “Scandinavian farm boy who skates beautifully,” had better have headed his local skating club or taught skating to inner-city youth if he hoped to get into Harvard at the century’s end.

Berdut Technology is a novel magnetic levitation system suitable for high speed train applications. This technology combines magnets and electromagnets to obtain levitation and propulsion. A Berdut array of permanent magnets is used to provide the levitation via skates that are located on both sides of the vehicle. Both the rails and the skates are based on permanent magnets therefore no energy is required for levitation. A linear motor located along the center of the vehicle provides the propulsion. Both, skate and linear motor use the same concept and working principle. The paper is divided into two parts: the first part describes the skate levitation, while the second part describes the linear motor. Finite element method was chosen to model and simulate both the skate levitation and the linear motor. Energy dissipation resulting from hysteresis and eddy current losses in the skate was determined. Stiffness and damping characteristics for the levitation skates are presented and validated. The efficiency and thrust force for the linear motor model are also presented along with experiments performed to validate the simulations. Once, validated the models are used to design a Maglev suspension and a linear motor for high-speed train applications.

This paper investigates the application of Superformula for structural synthesis. The focus is set on the lightweight design of parts that can be realized using discrete lattice structures. While the design domain will be obtained using the Superformula, a tetrahedral meshing technique will be applied to this domain to generate the topology of the lattice structure. The motivation for this investigation stems from the property of the Superformula to easily represent complex biological shapes, which opens a possibility to directly link a structural synthesis to a biomimetic design. Currently, numerous results are being reported showing the development of a wide range of design methods and tools that first study and then utilize the solutions and principles from the nature to solve technical problems. However, none of these methods and tools quantitatively utilizes these principles in the form of nature inspired shapes that can be controlled parametrically. The motivation for this work is also in part due to the mathematical formulation of the Superformula as a generalization of a superellipse, which, in contrast to the normal surface modeling offers a very compact and easy way to handle set of rich shape variants with promising applications in structural synthesis. The structural synthesis approach is organized as a volume minimization using Simulated Annealing (SA) to search over the topology and shape of the lattice structure. The fitness of each of candidate solutions generated by SA is determined based on the outcome of lattice member sizing for which an Interior Point based method is applied. The approach is validated with a case study involving inline skate wheel spokes.
