This paper reviews several examples of Japanese tea architecture in order to identify its specific features in the context of its historical development. Based on this, the main principles of the formation of tea architecture in Japan are defined. The analysis is conducted in relation to three main factors that influenced the formation of tea architecture: vernacular architecture, noble architecture and the philosophical ideas of Zen Buddhism. As an example, three tea houses of the master Sen no Rikyu (1522-1591) were used, namely: Kasa-tei, Shigure-tei (Todaiji Monastery, Kyoto) and Tai-an (Myoki-an Monastery, Kyoto), and the palace of Villa Katsura (1620-1658), commissioned by Prince Toshihito. The Kasa-tei and Shigure-tei houses are characterised by active inheriting of the structural elements and forms of vernacular housing. The Tai-an is a vivid reflection of aristocratic and Zen traditions. In the architecture of villa Katsura there is an influence of several directions of aristocratic and vernacular architectural styles. In each example, the influence of these three factors was detected at several levels: in the formation of the environment of the tea house (tea garden), in the structure and composition of the buildings, in the internal space of the buildings and at the level of semantics of the complexes. Among the variety of teahouses, at each determined level the preference may be given to one or another stylistic direction. For example, the traditions of vernacular architecture in the Kasa-tei and Shigure-tei houses are increasingly expressed in the exterior of the buildings and in the overall character of the complex. The aristocratic and ascetic spirit of the Tai-an house is mainly expressed in the interior of the building. In the architecture of Villa Katsura – similar to the examples mentioned above – the tradition of vernacular architecture is mainly present in the exterior and surroundings of the building, while the interior stays within the aristocratic tradition. The basic principles of tea architecture identified in the paper are arranged according to their origin and localization of application in the final table.

Edo Shigusa was a system of behavior manners for Japanese merchants, was taught in the late Edo period. In the process of forming and developing this manner, the Edo-period instructors encountered many objections from the Tokugawa shogunate because they thought that its syllabus risked influence on the politics of the nation, causing Edo merchants not publicly but only in the form of word of mouth. Professor Shiba Mitsuakira was the instructor of Edo Shigusa, who is considered as the last surviving member of Edo Shigusa instructors, holded the seminar "Looking back to the good points of Edo Shigusa" in 1974. He synthesized all of syllabus in the Edo period, calling these manners are "Merchant manners", "Prosperity rules", "Edo Shigusa business philosophers" and finally, named them as “Edo Shigusa”. After restoration and development since 1980, Edo Shigusa has become a common standard in communication, a measure of manners not only for Japanese businessmen but also for ordinary people today. This study, from a cultural point of view, outlines some manners for Japanese merchants in the Edo period, influences in today's era, and analyzes its good and bad sides to explain the general information of Japanese businessmen in particular and Japanese people in general.

The article for the first time considers the most active form of modern Tatar poetry - “ozyn shigyr”. It is noted that this form is not identical to the “long poem”, it has oriental roots. In Tatar literature, “ozyn shigyr” with its unique thematic and aesthetic features was formed in the 1920s and 1930s in the era of experiments to create “new poetry of the revolutionary time”. The revealed features of the genre “ozyn shigyr” of this period are a contextual background for studying the functioning of this form in modern Tatar poetry. The focus is on the work of the young poet Lilia Gibadullina, the author of three poetry collections. In her work, “ozyn shigyr” occupies a leading place, the analysis of her most famous poems to the modern Tatar reader allows us to determine the structural, figurative and motivational features, aesthetic attitudes, artistic preferences of the genre. So, in “ozyn shigyr” by L. Gibadullina, the main place is occupied by existential-evaluative motives. The lyrical heroine analyzes the events of her life, and repeated symbols or symbolic images turn them into the history of the people, the country, humanity in general. Among the identified techniques, the flickering of motives and intertextual dialogue are important, with the help of which a multiplicity of contexts and meanings is created. Thus, it is established that the genre of “ozyn shigyr” in modern Tatar poetry has its own characteristics that arise in dialogue with the traditions of Tatar poetry and make its form different from the “long poem”.

ABSTRACT The history of glacier length fluctuations serves as a reliable indicator of the past climate. In this paper, a numerical flowline model has been used to study the relationship between length variations of Chhota Shigri glacier and local climate since 1876. The simulated front positions of Chhota Shigri glacier are in agreement with those observed. After a successful simulation of the past retreat, the model was also used to predict future evolution of the glacier for the next 100 years under different climatic scenarios. These simulations indicate that the Chhota Shigri glacier may lose ~90% of its present volume by 2100 if the local temperature increases by 2.4 K, and for a temperature rise of 5.5 K, the glacier loses almost all its volume.

Surface energy balance of a glacier governs the physical processes taking place at the surface-atmosphere interface and connects ice ablation/accumulation to climate variability. To understand the response of Himalayan glaciers to climatic variability, a study was taken to formulate energy balance equation on two of the Indian Himalayan glaciers, one each from Indus and Ganga basins, which have different climatic and physiographic conditions. Study was carried out over Gangotri glacier (Ganga basin) and Chhota Shigri(CS) glacier from Chandra sub-basin (Indus basin). Gangotri glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the central Himalaya located in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand, India. Chhota Shigri glacier of Chandra sub-basin lies in Lahaul and Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh. Energy balance components have been computed using inputs derived from satellite data, AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data and field measurements. Different components of energy balance computed are net radiation (includes net shortwave and net longwave radiation), sensible heat flux and latent heat flux. In this study comparison has been made for each of the above energy balance components as well as total energy for the above glaciers for the months of November and December, 2011. It is observed that net radiation in Gangotri glacier is higher by approximately 43 % in comparison to Chhota Shigri glacier; Sensible heat flux is lesser by 77 %; Latent heat flux is higher by 66 % in the month of November 2011. Comparison in the month of December shows that net radiation in Gangotri glacier is higher by approximately 22 % from Chhota Shigri glacier; Sensible heat flux is lesser by 90 %; Latent heat flux is higher by 3 %.Total energy received at the glacier surface and contributes for melting is estimated to be around 32 % higher in Gangotri than Chhota Shigri glacier in November, 2011 and 1.25 % higher in December, 2011. The overall results contribute towards higher melting rate in November and December, 2011 in Gangotri than Chhota Shigri glacier.

In this paper, the Land cover/use changes of Shigu creek from 1987–2015 induced by urbanization was first extracted from a local database, then, the Liuxihe model, a physically based distributed hydrological model, is employed to simulate the flood processes impacted by urbanization. Precipitation of 3 storms was used for flood processes simulation. The results show that the runoff coefficient and peak flow have increased sharply.

Abstract. Few glaciological field data are available on glaciers in the Hindu Kush–Karakoram–Himalayan (HKH) region, and remote sensing data are thus critical for glacier studies in this region. The main objectives of this study are to document, using satellite images, the seasonal changes of surface albedo for two Himalayan glaciers, Chhota Shigri Glacier (Himachal Pradesh, India) and Mera Glacier (Everest region, Nepal), and to reconstruct the annual mass balance of these glaciers based on the albedo data. Albedo is retrieved from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images, and evaluated using ground based measurements. At both sites, we find high coefficients of determination between annual minimum albedo averaged over the glacier (AMAAG) and glacier-wide annual mass balance (Ba) measured with the glaciological method (R2 = 0.75). At Chhota Shigri Glacier, the relation between AMAAG found at the end of the ablation season and Ba suggests that AMAAG can be used as a proxy for the maximum snow line altitude or equilibrium line altitude (ELA) on winter-accumulation-type glaciers in the Himalayas. However, for the summer-accumulation-type Mera Glacier, our approach relied on the hypothesis that ELA information is preserved during the monsoon. At Mera Glacier, cloud obscuration and snow accumulation limits the detection of albedo during the monsoon, but snow redistribution and sublimation in the post-monsoon period allows for the calculation of AMAAG. Reconstructed Ba at Chhota Shigri Glacier agrees with mass balances previously reconstructed using a positive degree-day method. Reconstructed Ba at Mera Glacier is affected by heavy cloud cover during the monsoon, which systematically limited our ability to observe AMAAG at the end of the melting period. In addition, the relation between AMAAG and Ba is constrained over a shorter time period for Mera Glacier (6 years) than for Chhota Shigri Glacier (11 years). Thus the mass balance reconstruction is less robust for Mera Glacier than for Chhota Shigri Glacier. However our method shows promising results and may be used to reconstruct the annual mass balance of glaciers with contrasted seasonal cycles in the western part of the HKH mountain range since the early 2000s when MODIS images became available.

However, for the summer-accumulation type Mera Glacier our approach relied on the hypothesis that ELA information, mostly not accessible from space during the monsoon, was still preserved later thanks to strong winter winds blowing away snow and in turn exposing again the late monsoon surface. AMAAG was subsequently revealed in the post-monsoon period. This paper presents new AMS dating of organic finds from the Shigir (Shigirsky) peat bog, located in the Sverdlovsk Province, Kirovgrad District of the Urals. The bog is located immediately south of the river Severnaya Shuraly, with the Urals to the west. Intermittent survey and excavation has been undertaken at this location since 1879, resulting in the recovery of in excess of 3000 cultural artefacts, including oars, sculptures of birds, snake figurines, wooden skis, arrowheads, and fish hooks. The dates presented here indicate that not only is there a long duration of human use of the wetlands at Shigir, but that the artefact forms also appear to have a significant duration of use throughout the earlier prehistoric periods considered here.
