Amish Tripathi's novel Sita: Warrior of Mithila (2017) is the second installment in the Rama Chandra Series, offering a reimagined portrayal of Lord Rama and other key figures from the Ramayana in a modernized context. Through its exploration of human nature, politics, and morality, the series captivates readers both in India and internationally. Tripathi's adept fusion of Indian mythology and history has garnered widespread acclaim, with his books consistently ranking as bestsellers. The title, Sita: Warrior of Mithila, aptly reflects the central character's portrayal as a formidable female warrior. While the narrative begins with Sita's demonstration of courage during her abduction, it evolves to delve deeper into her transformation into a warrior princess. Sita embodies a form of feminist nationalism, championing altruistic warrior ideals. Guided by her mother's wisdom, she emerges as a symbol of this novel feminist nationalism, challenging traditional gender roles within the political sphere. Through Sita's journey, the narrative dismantles gender-based political norms, offering a fresh perspective on nation-building and the role of women within it. In contrast to conventional mythology, the revisionist approach taken by Tripathi actively engages with the development of women's political identities, highlighting their significance in the broader context of nationhood. The research question for the current study is: How does Amish Tripathi's novel Sita: Warrior of Mithila depict the development of Sita's feminist ideology, challenge traditional portrayals of Sita in the Ramayana, and explore the connection between Sita's transformation and the concept of feminist nation-building?

The life of a Mongol named Mahimāsāhi underwent a series of transformations in Persian and Sanskrit texts. Mahimāsāhi was born a Mongol, became a New Muslim, and died a Kshatriya Rajput warrior in 1301. With time, he moved from history into historical memory. This historical memory was further transformed by literary conventions in Sanskrit and Persian texts. While Mahimāsāhi represents a Mongol threat in Persian texts, he embodies the warrior’s duty in the Sanskrit Hammīra-Mahākāvya and serves as an example for others on how to become Rajput.

As one of China′s most precious cultural relics, the excavation and protection of the Terracotta Warriors pose significant challenges to archaeologists. A fairly common situation in the excavation is that the Terracotta Warriors are mostly found in the form of fragments, and manual reassembly among numerous fragments is laborious and time-consuming. This work presents a fracture-surface-based reassembling method, which is composed of SiamesePointNet, principal component analysis (PCA), and deep closest point (DCP), and is named SPPD. Firstly, SiamesePointNet is proposed to determine whether a pair of point clouds of 3D Terracotta Warrior fragments can be reassembled. Then, a coarse-to-fine registration method based on PCA and DCP is proposed to register the two fragments into a reassembled one. The above two steps iterate until the termination condition is met. A series of experiments on real-world examples are conducted, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than the conventional reassembling methods. We hope this work can provide a valuable tool for the virtual restoration of three-dimension cultural heritage artifacts.

Speaking by phone to a critic several weeks before the premiere of …(Iphigenia), director Lileana Blain-Cruz announced: ‘esperanza challenges the absurdity of this myth… Men must kill a young woman so they can go to war. Why repeat what does not work? What does it feel like to be a young woman thrust into this absurd story?’ In fact, the Wayne Shorter-esperanza spalding production exaggerates the myth's absurdity, minimizing the pain of Agamemnon and flattening the familial calamity at the heart of Euripides’ play until it becomes a conflict between aggressive men and suffering women. It is easy to judge these toxic male warriors with their Wagnerian helmets and hints of white nationalism. It is also easy for the female members of the audience to identify with Iphigenia, and with the series of Iphigenias whom the warriors put to death. Yet, at our moment, Shorter and spalding's reimagining of a myth about the sacrifice of a virgin to power a fleet invites us to consider our own implication in an urgent calamity, one in which we are both warrior and virgin.

The article introduces into scientific discourse cultural, chronological and social interpretation of the warrior burial, investigated during the excavations of the necropolis of the Bulan-Koby Culture of the Choburak-I funerary and ritual complex. The site is located on the right bank of the Katun River, to the south from the Elanda village of Chemal district, Altai Republic. During the research, a burial of a man with a horse and accompanying equipment, including a representative set of weapons (bow, a large number of arrows with iron tips, a sword, two combat knives), a belt decorated with numerous belt fittings, horse equipment, and other items were studied. A detailed description of the finds, including both widespread and very rare types of items, has been carried out. The indi-cated circle of analogies from the sites of the Bulan-Koby Culture of Altai, as well as complexes excavated in ad-jacent territories, allows us to determine the date of burial mound №30 to the 4th c. AD. This conclusion is con-firmed by the results of radiocarbon dating of a series of objects from the Choburak-I necropolis. The complex of elements of ritual practice indicates that the burial mound belongs to the previously identified Dialyan burial tradi-tion of the Altai population of the end of the 1st mil. BC — first half of the 1st mil. AD. This is suggested by the combination of the following features: an oval mound with a crepidoma, inhumation burial rite, northwest orienta-tion of the deceased, accompanying of the deceased by a horse laid “at the feet” of the person and its orientation with its head in the same direction as the deceased, inner grave construction in the form of a deck. The composi-tion of the grave goods allows us to conclude that the buried man was of a high social status, possibly a warrior who commanded a large unit of professional warriors, and also, possibly, the leader of a local group of pastoral-ists who left the Choburak-I necropolis. Some peculiar features of the analysed complex reflect the ideological paradigm of the Bulan-Koby population, such as placement into the grave of a broken (disassembled?) bow and a large number of arrows, covering the person’s body at the time of the burial.

This thesis investigates the social and economic issues at play in the politics of gender. Hence it delves into the phenomenon of Girl Power, or the « power of girls », and examines the discourses renegotiated around gender through analysis of TV series’ heroines from the 1990s. In contrast with series from the 1970s, which were influenced by the second wave of feminism, the series from 1990-2000 inscribed themselves more in the sphere of influence of feminism’s third wave. These series have provoked debates about issues of televisual violence and feminism. The corpus is principally composed of two Girl Power series, Xena: Warrior Princess and Charmed, which symbolize women’s power because they are centered on action heroines. These were successful series that were broadcast for several seasons and whose icons continue to disseminate in American popular culture. The analysis of these series is organized into two parts: the first part examines respresentations of Girl Power and its ambiguities, while the second part focuses on the negotiation of discourses of power and gender. The interpretation of these symbols of women’s power is not fixed, and blurs gender borders, notably in showing masculinity in crisis. TV series about violent women are commercial products. Yet they have had an impact on American culture in underlining the contradictions and tensions between the two waves of feminism. They have also affected the lives of the communities of fans, who sustain relationships with the series through web sites and social networks

Annotation:
This dissertation proposes an analysis of a series phenomenon through the concept of world series developed in television and film. Our object of analysis is Xena: Warrior Princess (Syndication 1995-2001), a television series from the 1990s known in the contemporary era for the phenomenon of fandom created around the series and characters Xena and Gabrielle. The series of the late 1990s are part of an era of transition, where digital and narratives mutations come together in the creation of dense and complex objects. We will try to draw a parallel between the structure of a television series and its reception, both of which are based on a logic of densification, to be observed in different forms: extension, continuity, and derivation, as well as on two levels: the text of Xena and the fandom of Xena. The diegetic analysis of the series will allow us to establish the conception and origins of the series as something dense and complex that invites and suggests a plurality of interpretations. Spectators/fans invest time and effort in the show in a variety of ways to produce rich and varied interpretations and fandom content. Defining a serial phenomenon would therefore take us back to examining the correlation of: producer, text, fans, and context, which allows this expansion of the series in multiple directions. The analysis of Xena: Warrior Princess around a logic of densification will allow us to better understand certain phenomena of fandom around contemporary series.

This study makes a unique contribution to applied game theory and to the studies of Shiji (Records of Grand Historian) and the Warring States Period of ancient China (453-221B.C.) by constructing and analyzing the annual series of alliance structures or partitions of the seven states during the period of two hundred thirty three years. It shows that twenty six of the eight hundred seventy seven possible partitions were observed, and that the three most frequent partitions were the finest partition (146 years), partitions with four singletons and one three-member coalition (63 years), and partitions with five singletons and one two-member coalition (33 years). Such quantitative results have future applications in alliance studies, game theory, and international economics. They also provide a list of future research topics such as the unknown statistical properties of a series of partition of seven elements with 233 observations.

Jo Wynell-Mayow stays with the theme of Homeric violence, but in her chapter she uses graphic descriptions of battle in the Iliad as a means to interrogate the stylised visual scenes of violence in Into the Badlands. This series pays homage to Hong Kong action cinema, and to a lesser extent to the myths of ancient Greece, but its set-piece action sequences where (almost) superpowered fighters clash provides us with a visual representation of the Homeric aristeia (series of heroic feats, usually on the battlefield). Just as battle scenes in Homer pair graphic violence with poignant, biographic details of a fallen warrior, combat scenes in Into the Badlands evoke emotional responses, as warriors are spectacularly arrayed and perform impressive, super-human feats.

Abstract The long siege of Troy, a city on the coast of Asia Minor, is one of the major events in the world of Greek myth. The first surviving work of Greek literature, the Iliad of Homer, is largely concerned with it. The Iliad itself is about an event in the ninth year of that siege, a quarrel in the Greek camp between Agamemnon, the leader of the Greek rulers, and Achilles, their best warrior, that leads to Achilles’ withdrawal. This in turn leads to a series of events that end with the death of the Trojans’ best warrior, Hektor. But in the course of that story, Homer tells us much of the earlier history of the war and reveals that after Hektor’s death Troy’s fall will inevitably follow.

This chapter is an exploration of the two campaigns led by the great Roman commander in 55 and 54 BCE. Caesar left a vitally important account of his invasions of south-eastern Britain which provides information about his campaigns and addresses the Iron Age peoples of Britain. Significant archaeological discoveries have supplemented, and often challenged, this narrative. These include the recent discovery of Caesar’s probable landing site from his second campaign (at Ebbsfleet, Kent) and the uncovering of a high-status Iron Age warrior burial at North Bersted (West Sussex). Caesar brought around 20,000 soldiers to Britain during his second campaign and forced the surrender of several of the kings of south-eastern Britain, including a great warrior named Cassivellaunus, who attempted to unite the opposition to Rome. Caesar described the martial valour of the Britons he fought, including their use of slingshots and chariots. Departing from Britain to return to Gaul, he took hostages and slaves, imposing a tribute on the kings of Britain. Commius was a Gallic ally of Caesar who assisted him during his invasions of Britain and eventually appears to have settled to rule over a people living to the south of the Thames. He was the first of a series of friendly kings established by Roman rulers in Britain. The North Bersted warrior may have been a member of a retinue of cavalry soldiers who accompanied Commius to Britain after Caesar had withdrawn.

This chapter looks at two separate and enduring acts of standing in the Iliad and Odyssey. The first is the “standing apart” of Achilles and Agamemnon at the beginning of the Iliad. This opening act sets in motion a series of separations in the poem that come to signify the loneliness of the Homeric warrior. The second is Penelope’s signature pose of “standing beside the stathmos,” repeated four times in the Odyssey and symbolizing her reluctance to move forward through time. These two different forms of standing (one placed in relation to a series of prepositional prefixes to articulate a poetics of adjacency for the Iliad, and the other repeating without variation for the same character in the same location in the Odyssey) introduce a gendered reading of the Homeric body and its relation to both repetition and agency.

From television, we examine characters Glory, Jasmine, and Illyria (from Whedon’s series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel 1997-2004), Lilith from HBO’s True Blood (2008-2014), and a few characters (Julia, Persephone, and The Sister) from SyFy’s The Magicians (2015-2020). Since we have utterly imagined or appropriated these so-called goddesses (all inventions of modern times), it is not surprising that we feel free to use and present them in ways that reflect our cultural values. It is not surprising that negative portrayals of powerful women prevail an industry dominated by men.

Abstract This chapter examines the final phase of Gifftheil’s life, which he lived out mostly in Amsterdam, and poses the question: with most of Europe at peace, what place was there for a warrior sent by God? In Amsterdam, Gifftheil collected books and practiced medicine. After the outbreak of the Anglo-Dutch war in 1652, Gifftheil believed his prophecies had been confirmed, but his increasing militarism alienated more followers, like Christian Hoburg. In 1655 a series of accidents left Gifftheil near crippled, putting an end to his ambitions to lead a holy army. Nevertheless, his standard was carried forward by several new arrivals in Amsterdam, most especially Friedrich Breckling. The circumstances of Gifftheil’s final trip to England in 1659 and 1660 are related, during which he warned England against the Restoration, as well as his decline into old age and irrelevance in Amsterdam.

Baseball’s origins in Japan date back to the 1870s, and by the 1890s, it was a popular sport at the elite preparatory schools. Baseball was propelled into national consciousness by a series of games played by the most prestigious of those schools, First Higher School in Tokyo, against a team of Americans from the port of Yokohama. Their surprising success against the experienced American adults at a moment of patriotic fervor and a revival of a samurai warrior ethics as a national template popularized these boys, this sport, and this samurai imagery as a Japanese style of playing baseball. The game then spread rapidly through a national public education system, and it was promoted by newspapers and urban transport companies. Baseball, even its schoolboy origins, was not just education but edu-tainment, a contentious hybrid of moral pedagogy and profitable entertainment. Baseball, this chapter demonstrates, played a central role in the new metropolitan modernity of early twentieth-century Japan, and this provided a complex foundation for the professional sport that was Japan’s central entertainment in the post–World War II decades.

In recent years, autonomy has been subject to significant interest and investment within the maritime industry. Several high-profile trials such as Unmanned Warrior 2016 and Autonomous Warrior 2018, have drawn attention to the rapidly emerging and advancing technology. Following the successful operation of 7 autonomous vessels during Unmanned Warrior 2016, L3 Technologies completed a series of demonstrations at Autonomous Warrior 2018. The continually evolving technology has enabled increasing complex autonomous operations to be trialled. This accessibility and enhanced capabilities have resulted in the increased adoption of autonomous vessel technology. Navies around the world have shown much interest in the enhanced military capability that autonomous vessels bring to the operational theatre. It is clear that the technology is available, and the demand exists, but integration into a modern operation warship poses an indisputable challenge? The operating cycle of an USV when hosted on-board a warship can be summarised as ‘Maintain, Deploy, Execute and Recover’. Understanding how the USV integrates into the mothership at each of these stages will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of operating the USV. To fully understand this all aspects of integration should be considered, people, processes and technical interfaces. Two key on-board systems that an autonomous vessel will need to interact with are the combat system and the IPMS. As autonomous technologies become more established and proven, the confidence gained will have implications for its possible implementation on larger vessels potentially leading to fully autonomous cargo ships and cruise ships.

Abstract Crude oil pollution is a serious threat to both humans and agricultural trends in all ramifications. The effects include suffocation of humans, plants and other useful organisms in the polluted area. The resultant effect is that it is cost effective and provides an aerated soil environment for enough nutrient distribution. This research designed an effective reagent that has ability to destroy the crude oil molecules in the soil and reviewed highlights for crude oil molecule conversion into soil nutrient. The formulation is based on the principle of complete destruction or combustion of hydrocarbons (crude oil) molecules. The Reagent is called hydrocarbons polluted area sludge solution. The advantage is that the polluted soil is remediated and it is restored after the application of the reagent, with increase in its original fertility. The reagent was applied on a soil polluted by crude oil around Warri Refinery and the result showed a complete destruction of the sludge molecules. It converted the sludge molecules into organic salt, hydride and water molecules. It was equally used on samples sludge from Ogoni polluted area and the result was successful. The sludge was completely destroyed and converted into organic salts and acids. Soil and water samples around the polluted area analysis result revealed that contaminated soil and water were restored. It has been confirmed that the reagent has the ability to destroy sludge molecules in soil, effectively clean and restore the soil with added fertility.

Europe is today exposed to numerous security challen- ges. The permanent influx of migrant population represents a very high security challenge, which primarily threatens the European popula- tion. Strong barriers to entry into the European Union, placed at the borders of Hungary and Croatia, hinder the flow of migrants, but on the other hand, they enable various illegal and impermissible ways of crossing state borders, open opportunities for human trafficking and also contribute to additional destabilization in the depth of the terri- tory of the European Union. Who are the migrants, where do they come from and with what motives, is an essential question. How much do migrants imply in certain security risk situations in the European Union and do they abuse the difficult security situation that occurred on the Asian and African continents to place their „warriors“ on European soil to wage religiously motivated wars against the Christian population. These are fundamentally important issues facing the European Union today and they are the most important security risks. For the purposes of the research presented in this paper, a security assessment was made in one European country, Austria, in a given time frame and in a location that is considered the most critical in terms of the overall security of the local population. Taking into account that Austria is a good benchmark and indicator of the situation in the whole of Europe, because since the beginning of the migrant processes, it has received a large number of migrant populations from all over the world and provided them with a good shelter. Austria can rightfully be classified in the category of more regula- ted European countries, both in terms of the standard of living of citi- zens, in terms of the social rights of citizens, and in terms of the degree of protection of human and civil rights. However, Austria is facing serious problems of a security nature, which is significantly contribu- ted by precisely that migrant population, which successfully reaches Austrian cities. The picture that can be seen in Austria today is deva- stating from the security point of view, because whole gangs, mostly made up of migrants from Asia and partly from Africa, dominate bus and train stations, streets and entire neighborhoods. The Austrian po- pulation often feels unsafe, and when observing the field, from direct contacts with the local population, the authors of the paper learned that some residents of neighborhoods experienced concrete physical attacks from migrant criminal structures

Abstract Bonga field is located 120 km South-West of Warri, in the Southern Niger Delta of Nigeria, at water depth of 3300 ft. The field was discovered in 1993 and achieved first oil in November 2005 as the first deepwater development in the Gulf of Guinea. It was developed with subsea wells, production manifolds and water injection terminals connected via subsea flowlines and risers to a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility called the Bonga FPSO. Bonga FPSO consists of oil and gas processing and export facilities, water injection facilities, oil storage facilities, and utility systems that support production operations and personnel onboard the vessel. Over a 17-year period, the FPSO has achieved cumulative oil production of 1.0 billion barrels, 815 Bscf of gas export and 1.5 billion barrels of water injected through a total 39 oil producer and 36 water injector wells. This performance was delivered by disciplined implementation of a structured Asset Management framework with focus on work processes that deliver performance, a management system that define how the asset operates, and clear definition of the assets longer-term strategic intent, vision, value levers, and the choices required to deliver maximum business value. Through the asset management framework, the FPSO has consistently delivered top quartile performance in safety and environment, production availability, asset integrity, equipment reliability, and turn around excellence. In 2022 the asset delivered a turnaround maintenance 8 days ahead of schedule with zero safety incident at a lower cost. In February 2023, Bonga achieved cumulative export of 1 billion barrels of oil and 815 Bscf of gas, and cumulative water injection of 1.5 billion barrels. The asset is on track to deliver a production availability greater 95% and a carbon emission reduction of 0.3million tCO2e through reliability improvements on gas compression system. This paper presents the Asset Management excellence philosophy of Bonga FPSO Ensure Safe Production: A structured process that enables cost-effective operation within defined operating envelopes. Manage Threats and Opportunities: A process that enables identification, prioritization and mitigation of threats and realization of opportunities. Perform Maintenance Execution and Manage Equipment care: Two frameworks for maintaining and improving the integrity, availability, and reliability of the asset through optimized maintenance strategies. Perform Turnaround: A structured framework to effectively plan, schedule, control and execute turnarounds to improve operational excellence and asset integrity. This paper is one of a series of Bonga themed papers proposed for OTC 2024.
