The purpose of this study is to examine the role of self-efficacy and self-independence in promoting self-employment intention among university students. This study is developed based on entrepreneurial intention described by Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) (Ajzen, 1991) and Shapero and Sokol (1982). Although the evidence showed that one-third of new entrepreneurs in the United States were those individuals with the ages of 30 and below (Kuratko, 2005) butstill not all graduate students are willing to choose entrepreneurship as their career. There are still a limited number of students who are willing to start a business soon after they graduate from the university (Hisrich and Peters, 2002). Therefore, it is the aim of this study to investigate both roles of self-efficacy and self-independence in influencing the decision to choose self-employment as a career among university students. The respondents for this study were university students in Sabah, Malaysia. 400 questionnaires were distributed in this study resulting only in 260 usable questionnaires. Based on the results of this study, it was found that both self-efficacy and self-independence have a significant relationship with self-employment intention. This study, therefore, through its research and findings has contributed significantly to both theoretical and practical implications. This study is able to provide the information on the factors that determine self-employment career among university graduates.

The article analyzes the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists to clarify the essence of the issue which is associated with the personal development of a person, namely, self-actualization, self-determina- tion and self-realization. The results of a detailed analysis of the psychological and pedagogical literature suggest that the concepts of “self-actualization”, “self-realization” and “self-determination” should be dis- tinguished despite their semantic relations. It is emphasized that self-determination and self-actualization of the career orientation of university students are directly related to the professional and career orien- tation. In numerous scientific works, «self-realization» is considered as personal growth, and «self-actual- ization» as «I have established myself», «I am real». It is argued that the central growth of early youth in general and student age in particular is not only the personal seleterma, but also the profession- al one. It is also indicated that self-determination is associated with the orientation towards the future, a qualitatively different perception of time, when the present is constantly correlated with the future and is assessed from the perspective of the future. It is noted that it is during the student age that the intensive development of the motivational sphere of the individual takes place, which provides for the formation of moral consciousness and self-awareness. The authors determine that the professional self-determination of young people contributes to the thinking of young people about their future, which contributes to the choice of a profession. It is noted that of particular interest is the question of the subject’s ideas about their future and the prospects for their own career development. General tendencies were revealed in students’ ideas about the future as a possible construction of their own career. These features appear in the fact that students’ image of the future is indistinct, blurred, insufficiently conscious. Three components are charac- terized: motivational-consumer, value-semantic, and functional-regulatory. It is remarked that self-actualization is an integral attribute of self-awareness and self-development of an individual, and is manifested in the motivational structure, in personal-semantic formations, life-pur- pose orientations, which find their further embodiment in professional activity, communication, and per- sonal life.

This study investigated whether self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy can predict students’ employability levels, either simultaneously or partially. Researchers used class XII students of Muhammadiyah 1 Bambanglipuro Vocational High School, Indonesia with the criteria of having implemented industrial work practices (N=433) as research subjects. The sample consisted of 168 students obtained randomly by cluster sampling technique. Likert model scale as the main instrument in obtaining empiric data to answer the research hypothesis using multiple regression techniques with the help of the SPSS V.23 program. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy have a very significant effect on the level of employability (F=134.28 and sig.=.000). Partially, each independent variable (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) also has a very significant effect on employability with statistical values (t) obtained at 11.54, 3.24, 7.99 and sig. level of .000, .001, .000. These findings provide evidence that self-originating factors (self-regulation, self-evaluation, and self-efficacy) are sufficiently capable of increasing employability. Thus, it can be concluded that internal factors are one of the critical factors in predicting the employability of vocational students.

Colorism has been a historical racial dilemma for the African American community since slavery. Colorism can be defined as a form of bias, based upon different aspects of physical appearance including skin color, facial features, and hair that favors the facial appearance of Caucasian white Americans (Beopple, 2015). Over the last 10 years quantitative and qualitative data has been gathered to study the effect of colorism on the African American community with a specific focus on the psychological well-being of this population. A survey was conducted to evaluate the effects of colorism on African American women and their self-esteem and self-perception. A total of 25(N=25) surveys were gathered of women, ages 18-50, who all identified as black, African American or a person of color. The analyzed research results concluded that colorism, although has negatively impacted many participants, has not lowered or altered their self esteem or self perception.

The process of self-actualization and self-esteem, especially self-confidence and self-image of the main character in the novel The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. This novel tells about Mia Thermopolis, the freshman student at Albert Einstein High School. Like many other teens, Mia has a problem in self-confidence because of her body posture that she thinks does not meet the standard in general. Mia is often labeled as a freak in her school. Her life problem is getting more complicated when she knows that she is a princess from a small country in Europe. Mia’s problem is a picture of teenage problems in general, the lack of self-confidence and the bad self-image. But Mia learns to solve all of her life problems in a mature way and wish that she can reach her self-actualization. In this research, the writer uses descriptive research as the method of collecting the data. As for the method of analyzing the data, the writer uses structural method by understanding the novel, the character of Mia Thermopolis. Data collection technique uses qualitative technique with taking note cards in finding relevant data to the subject of analysis. In data analysis technique, the writer uses technique by interpreting data. The results of this research are: 1) Mia’s self-actualization process at the end of the novel only reach the self-esteem phase. Mia is not yet fully reach her self-actualization, she often still being selfish and mostly still being emotional. 2) Mia’s self-confidence at the end of the novel is increase, Mia can accept her own self and flaws. 3) Mia’s self-image at the end of the novel changed. Mia learns that what is important is not the appearance but the personality inside an individual. As closing, even though this novel looks light where the story is only about teenager’s life problem in general, but there are a lot of lessons that can be applied in the daily life. Maybe not every girl can be a princess in one night, but the lessons about how can we be confidence are a lot in this novel.

In order to build healthy self-esteem, the involvement of family members and school staff is strictly necessary, in order to provide a safe and motivating environment for children and adolescents. Thus, this article has the general objective of understanding the processes of building self-esteem, self-concept and self-image during child development, through the influences of the environment and affective relationships between the people with whom the child lives. The study is a review of narrative literature, through publications/articles in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and Virtual Health Library (BVS). Studies have shown the importance of developing a positive self-concept to have a good quality of life. For that, the relationships that the individual establishes in the family, in the school, in his social environment are fundamental for the formation of the self-concept.

Abstract Social media, including online social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, have developed at an extreme rate over the last few years (Chou, Hunt, Beckjord, Moser, & Hesse, 2009; Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010). Common usages of social media, and its relative novelty, are related to an emergence of new psychological and social phenomena. Although many studies have investigated individual differences in online social networking, few have examined the recent and rapidly popularized social phenomenon of the “selfie” (a self-portrait photograph of oneself). The objective of this exploratory study was to examine the impacts of selfie on Self image of disabled students studying in higher education. A questionnaire was developed based on previous literatures and a total of 126 students were randomly selected for the present study. The findings disclosed that there are positive impacts of selfie for students with different disabilities whereby students believe that selfie can increase one’s perception and confidence in self imaging. Its negative impact was also seen on self image of visual impaired students in comparison to students with other disabilities. Few students also reported its negative impact in the form of wasting time and editing photos before posting to social media.

The problem in ‘Night, Mother is the external and internal conflict of mother in her family, the reason in choosing this topic is because the fact that drama shows the two sides that the mother has. On one side, the mother has to sacrifice everything in order to keep the family well, she has to show the role model that the kid can see in herself. However, on the other side, the mother also has the weakness, there are lots of burdens, and this can lead to the climax that she has fed up with her life, and she chooses to end it all. The purpose of this writing is the suffering on of modern mothers based on psychological analysis. It was divided into external conflict of disappointment from husband and son, internal conflict of suffering because of disease, and the conflict that leads to her suicide. This analysis uses psychological theory, Daiches said that psychological theory was based on the assumption that literary work always talks about human life events because it concerns about people and their lives, it must contain psychological aspects in the story. Psychology was expected to help us to know the characters well. In the method of research, qualitative method is used because Creswell said that it is attempted to trace the source of information in the form of document which were relevant to the object of the research. In finding in this analysis, this analysis will be focused on the psychological background of the character particularly the main character. First, the external conflict of disappointment from husband and son, Jessie feels lonely after her husband and son leave her. Second, internal conflict of suffering because of disease, the other factor that causes suffering to Jessie character is the disease that has become the trigger for her to commit suicide. Third, the conflict that leads to her suicide, Jessie as the mother is strong, however she needs support from her whole family, without that support, she feels dead inside and finally chooses to commit suicide. The problems faced by modern woman are loneliness, instable family structure, and crisis in emotionality.

ABSTRACTThe loss of self in Aizeheimer's Disease is examined from a social constructionist view of the nature of the self. Empirical evidence derived from the structure of the discourse and behaviour of three Alzheimer's sufferers is presented to show that self1, the self of personal identity, persists far into the end stage of the disease. Self2, the multiple personae that are projected into the public arena, and which require the cooperation of others in order to come into being, can be lost, but only indirectly as a result of the disease. The primary cause of the loss of self2 is the ways in which others view and treat the Alzheimer's sufferer. Recommendations are made regarding interactions between Alzheimer's sufferers and caregivers.
