This work is dealing with the self-generated torque that occurs within a 4WD military special automotive drivetrain. The mathematical model stated in this paper is confirmed by the means of multiple tests developed in real conditions. The tests were developed in order to reveal both transversal and longitudinal self-generated torque within the drivetrain, on different road surfaces. The present paper also introduces some new concepts, such is for instance the insensitive domain of a self-locking (or a progressively locking) differential. With the aid of this concept we can easier deal with the self-generated torque that is due to the increased internal friction of the differential. Moreover, a general, comprehensive theory can be further issued that could classify the self-locking differentials according to their internal friction and their locking coefficient variation.

As one of the most important technology of Lightweight of Automobile, Self-pierce riveting (SPR) is suitable for joining similar or dissimilar sheet materials. In this paper, the process of the SPR was introduced, the test specimen was prepared by using electrolysis and anodized coated, and the microstructure of the joint is observed by the differential interference contrast method (DIC). According to the distribution of the grain size, the section of the joint could be divided into five areas, un-deformed matrix, upper plate self-locking area, lower plate self-locking area, upper plate transition area, and lower plate transition area. From transition area to matrix the grain deformation and hardness decreases gradually, and the maximum hardness of the joint was founded in the upper plate self-locking area.

A 17.8–34.8 GHz (64.6%) locking range current-reuse injection-locked frequency multiplier (CR-ILFM) with dual injection technique is presented in this paper. A dual injection technique is applied to generate differential signal and increase the power of the second-order harmonic component. The CR core is proposed to reduce the power consumption and compatibility with NMOS and PMOS injectors. The inductor-capacitor (LC) tank of the proposed CR-ILFM is designed with a fourth-order resonator using a transformer with distributed inductor to extend the locking range. The self-oscillated frequency of the proposed CR-ILFM is 23.82 GHz. The output frequency locking range is 17.8–34.8 GHz (64.6%) at a 0-dBm injection power without any additional control including supply voltage, varactor, and capacitor bank. The power consumption of the proposed CR-ILFM is 7.48 mW from a 1-V supply voltage and the die size is 0.75 mm × 0.45 mm. The CR-ILFM is implemented in a 65-nm CMOS technology.

This article presents a novel self-biased phase-locked loop (PLL) scheme for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. A novel self-biased circuit that contains a current mirror circuit and a variable resistor circuit related to the frequency division ratio are proposed. The proposed self-biased PLL scheme achieves a fixed damping factor. Moreover, the self-biased technology allows the PLL loop bandwidth to track the input reference frequency and division ratio. The proposed start-up circuit speeds up the locking of the PLL. In addition, the proposed differential-to-single-ended (DTS) converter can guarantee a 50% duty cycle without operating the PLL at twice the chip operating frequency. The proposed self-biased PLL is implemented in a Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) 55 nm CMOS process. The measured root-mean-square jitter (RMS-jitter) integrated of PLL is 2.4 ps with a dissipation of 8.6 mW, and the resulting figure-of-merit is −223.05 dBc/Hz.

Symmetrically coupled systems of N self-exciting Faraday disk homopolar dynamos have been proposed by Hide [1997] as a testbed for both the analytical and numerical study of the dynamics of coupled dynamo systems. There arises a natural hierarchy of systems, consisting of a series of N single disk dynamos, each in series with a motor [Hide et al., 1996]. Synchronization in the dynamics of these systems is investigated. The transition from the special case of strict amplitude and linear phase locking to the case of more general synchronization is examined. The particular case of two magnetically coupled homopolar dynamos with dissimilar characteristics is considered; the behavior of this N = 2 case is governed by six-coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations which contain a total of thirteen dimensionless parameters. It is proved that for sufficiently small perturbations, the states of each of the two component dynamos are locked together. Numerical results suggest that this locking extends to finite perturbations, the state of one system being a linear function of the state of the other. As the size of the perturbation increases, this strict phase locking is lost, yet the complicated chaotic trajectories of each dynamo appear to remain strictly synchronized. This paper is therefore the result of a previous study of coupled dynamos [Moroz et al., 1998] in which no more than five of the parameters were assumed to be independent.

We present a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) laser transmitter concept designed around a Nested Cavity Optical Parametric Oscillator (NesCOPO) based Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA). The spectral bands are located around 2051 nm for CO2 probing and 1982 nm for H216O and HD16O water vapor isotopes. This laser is aimed at being integrated into an airborne lidar, intended to demonstrate future spaceborne instrument characteristics: high-energy (several tens of mJ nanosecond pulses) and high optical frequency stability (less than a few hundreds of kHz long term drift). For integration and efficiency purposes, the proposed design is oriented toward the use of state-of-the-art high aperture periodically poled nonlinear materials. This approach is supported by numerical calculations and preliminary experimental validations, showing that it is possible to achieve energies in the 40–50 mJ range, reaching the requirement levels for spaceborne Integrated Path Differential Absorption (IPDA) measurements. We also propose a frequency referencing technique based on beat note measurement of the laser signal with a self-stabilized optical frequency comb, which is expected to enable frequency measurement precisions better than a few 100 kHz over tens of seconds integration time, and will then be used to feed the cavity locking of the NesCOPO.

This paper presents an analysis that aims at identifying the interdependence between the wheels slip and the self-generated torque that occurs at the inter-axle level of a 4x4 automobiles driveline. We consider that this paper has a high degree of novelty since it succeeds in establishing causality relationships between different automotive typical parameters. Moreover, the paper provides the specific mathematical, theoretical equations as well as an example of a generalized mathematical model derived from time or frequency analysis. The theoretical mathematical elements consist of terms referring to the rigid wheels kinematics and specific working conditions of the vehicle when it runs with tire radii differences at the inter-axle level. To achieve the goal of our work we developed a large experimental research work that involved an extended instrumentation of an all-wheel driven military vehicle in such a manner that allowed getting information concerning different shafts torque and angular speed. The vehicle has transfer case, involving a longitudinal differential. The tests were developed with the locking device of the differential working in the engaged mode. Aiming at revealing the connection between the tire radii and the self-generated torque, we have subjected the vehicle to different tire radii running modes. The rolling radius of the wheels that were on the same axle was the same. The bigger the tire radii difference the bigger the self-generated torque; hence the interdependence started to reveal itself as far as the tire slip also followed the behavior of the self-generated torque. In order to determine the wheels slip we also measured the vehicles speed with a GPS. The results are graphically presented.Following the results of the data processing stage, we concluded that the interdependence between wheels slip and the self-generated torque exists and a relationship between these two phenomena can be mathematically expressed, using a generalized model. We consider that a kind of model like this proves its utility in simulating similar conjectures; thus, the experimental research effort can be significantly reduced either by lacking either in torque measuring or wheels slip measuring. Such a determination could have a positive impact by optimizing the vehicle exploitation or even its modernization.

Abstract The cytosolic antibody receptor TRIM21 possesses unique ubiquitination activity that drives broad-spectrum anti-pathogen targeting and underpins the protein depletion technology Trim-Away. This activity is dependent on formation of self-anchored, K63-linked ubiquitin chains by the heterodimeric E2 enzyme Ube2N/Ube2V2. Here we reveal how TRIM21 facilitates ubiquitin transfer and differentiates this E2 from other closely related enzymes. A tri-ionic motif provides optimally distributed anchor points that allow TRIM21 to wrap an Ube2N~Ub complex around its RING domain, locking the closed conformation and promoting ubiquitin discharge. Mutation of these anchor points inhibits ubiquitination with Ube2N/Ube2V2, viral neutralization and immune signalling. We show that the same mechanism is employed by the anti-HIV restriction factor TRIM5 and identify spatially conserved ionic anchor points in other Ube2N-recruiting RING E3s. The tri-ionic motif is exclusively required for Ube2N but not Ube2D1 activity and provides a generic E2-specific catalysis mechanism for RING E3s.

This master’s thesis deals with the design of equipment for testing differentials. The aim of the thesis is therefore the design of a special device that will be able to measure the steady and transient characteristics of differentials. Master’s thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter points out the disadvantages of fully open and closed differentials, the second deals with a basic overview of the structures and design of self-locking differentials. The third chapter deals with research of existing devices that test and measure the characteristics of differentials. The fourth chapter then discusses the possible drives of the tested unit. The fifth chapter focuses on the actual construction design of the test equipment. The subsequent sixth chapter then solves the strength calculations of the chosen structural elements of this device.

Abstract This paper proposes the advanced techniques used by Integrated Avionics System to track and attack the maneuvering target effectively, develops the parameter sensitivity analysis, and then point out the primary factors and the secondary factors affecting the attack effectiveness. First of all, mathematical models are provided, including the kinematic model, the airborne radar tracking model, the fire control model, the pilot-manipulation model and the fire logic. With the use of self-adaptive Kaiman filter, the algorithm for the maneuvering target tracking is suggested. By means of the forced singular perturbation, the suboptimal strategy for three-dimensional pursuit-evasion differential game problem is developed. Secondly, based on the models, the algorithm and the strategy above, the simulation flow chart is proposed, which is in accordance with the actual air-to-air attack. Thirdly, in the light of the relative sensibility function, the values of system parameter sensibility about several parameters are calculated. Fourthly, appropriate parameter selections for improving and updating the attack capability are suggested. Finally, the imaginary air-to-air scenario is simulated to analyze the performance of Integrated Avionics System. The simulation results show that the system can track the maneuvering target reliably and attack it accurately with the longer locking time, and the burden of numerical calculation is lightened considerably.
