Macro-economic aspects and further factors influence the economic development of a region. Two new indicators (Index of Citizens' Financial Provision and Risk of Regional Economic Development) are introduced in this paper. These indicators enable people to evaluate the financial provision of citizens and the economic risk of a region in more detail. To demonstrate a function of these new indicators in economic practice, the authors focus on the selected region (Vysocina, Czech Republic) due to the following specific characteristics. Economic performance of the Vysocina Region in comparison with other regions of the Czech Republic is below the average. When calculating GDP per capita the Vysocina Region ranks eleventh position from fourteen regions in the Czech Republic. The input data for examples given in this paper are based from the Czech Statistical Office. Mathematical modeling of the new developed indicators has been created in Microsoft Excel program. To design Indicator Risk of Regional Economic Development the fuzzy sets logic has been used.

The report deals with an analysis of the questionnaire inquiry results about Internal tourism in the Czech Republic in 2005 from the Czech Statistical Office sources. Besides basic information about the tourist trade statistics and terminology questions the core of this publication is the analysis of the Internal tourism in the NUTS II South-East region and both its parts (South Moravian region and Vysocina region) and its comparison with the Czech Republic. Authors tries to create a visitors background from the point of view of visit seasonality, a region from which he comes, an age, a travel purpose, a travel duration, an accommodation type, travel expenses and a conveyance used. Indicators were selected, in which the region visitors differ in comparison with the entire Czech Republic, eventually in which the visitors of South Moravian region differ from the Vysocina region visitors. At the conclusion authors speculate about the conditions of regional localization of the tourist trade satellite account in the Czech Republic.

There are 80% municipalities under one thousand inhabitants in the CzechRepublic. The population trend observed in the region ofSouth Bohemia has proved a long-term and gradated depopulation of such small municipalities. While population has fallen in municipalities under one thousand inhabitants, towns and municipalities with more than one thousand inhabitants show the opposite trend. The possibility of changing this trend seems to lay in the state help for small municipalities parallel with the expected change of the situation after the EU accession because it is very probable, that many young families will be looking for the financially more convenient living in the country.

A number of authors deal with problems of convergence, divergence and disparities, particularly with reference to economic growth and its comparison in groups of countries. This paper is aimed at problems of using basic methods of measuring the convergence at the evaluation of the development of selected demographic characteristics of particular regions of the Czech Republic for the period 1992 to 2007. From demographic data provided by the Czech Statistical Office some indicators were selected associated with aging the CR population. In particular, following indicators were used: the proportion of productive population, coefficient of loading the productive population by young persons, coefficient of loading the productive population by old persons, coefficient of the total loading and index of age. A precondition served as a working hypothesis that in addition to the negative demographic development affecting the CR as a whole, the convergence of its particular regions also occurred, viz. regions at the level of NUTS 3. At the quantification of convergence processes in particular regions of the CR, the method of beta convergence was used (in a simplified linearized form) as well as the method of sigma convergence. Both methods predicate unambiguously on the convergence of the CR regions from the point of view of all examined demographic indicators. From the aspect of both methods, the fastest convergence occurred in the studied period in the indicator of loading the productive population by old persons. In this indicator (as the only from monitored ones), no disparity showed as well, ie a region showing an isolated development was not noted. Opposite situation manifested itself at the indicator of loading the productive population by young persons. Only elimination of the capital city of Prague reversed an original result showing evidence of the divergence of regions from the aspect of this indicator. Disparities of the capital city of Prague occurred even at other two indicators. Only from the aspect of age, the Central Bohemian region became a region being beside the general trend of convergence.

Ruzrok, the first sorghum cultivar of Czech provenance, was selected as a multiline cultivar from sorghum collected in the Bílé Karpaty region in Moravia, Czech Republic. In the present paper, basic plant morphological and yield-related characteristics as well as characteristics related to plant resistance to major abiotic and biotic stress factors are described. The major advantages of Ruzrok consists in its earliness, plant height and high growth rate of plants leading to high biomass production. Ruzrok was registered for its high biomass yield; however, its grains can also be used for flour production and food purposes after the technological removal of tannin-rich outer layers of grains. Recommendations for basic cultural practices such as sowing date, fertilization and protection against pests and diseases are given. In conclusion, potential utilization of the novel sorghum variety as both biomass and fodder crop is discussed.

In this paper, the quantitative status of employees in the Health and Social Care sector in the Czech Republic is assessed, and the future development of the sector is predicted both for the Czech Republic as a whole, and for individual regions according to the NUTS3 classification. At present, labor market prognoses are created using the ROA-CERGE model, which includes the main professions in the Health and Social Care sector. This article expands the predictions by adding the regional level and using extrapolation of time series, and it identifies the regions important for the given sector and the labor force. The position of the Czech Republic with regard to selected professions in comparison with other countries of the European Union, i.e., its qualitative status, is also assessed in the paper. The following professions are assessed: general nurses and midwives (both with and without a specialization), physicians, and professional assistants. Healthcare workers do not manifest geographical mobility between regions and work primarily in the region where they live. Since the Czech Republic’s accession to the EU, staff working in key professions have been able to work under comparable conditions in any of the member states. The workforce flow depends, among other things, on its qualitative representation in the given country. To find groups of European countries with similar characteristics of quantitative coverage in selected professions in the Health and Social Care sector, cluster analysis is used to identify homogeneous clusters of countries, as of 2016. Secondary data was obtained from the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) and the Information System (ISA+) of the National Institute of Education (NIE).

To analyse the potential changes in soil characteristics and associated impacts on the land price, the region of South Moravia was selected, strongly threatened by erosion and by claiming the most valuable land in suburban territories due to industrial and housing expansion. For the detailed analysis of the impacts of erosion and land appropriation in the region of South Moravia, the model territories of Brno surroundings with the municipality of Dolní Heršpice and Hustopeče surroundings with the municipality of Starovice were selected. The price of land degraded by potential erosion in the South Moravian region fluctuates between 88 and 2 400 EUR/ha. In the past 180 years, 148 ha of agricultural land in the total value of 822 815 EUR have been used for construction in the location under study in Dolní Heršpice. Further growth of the municipality should involve additional appropriation of agricultural land in the value of 411 000 EUR. In the studied land block of 100.5 ha, located in the Starovice municipality area, water erosion caused degradation in the total value of 92 000 EUR in the period 1978–2013. Extensive losses of fertile agricultural land are to be expected in the future. Their main causes are continuing land appropriation and degradation processes – soil erosion.

Viticulture, as a large part of the agriculture sector of the South Moravian Region, represents significant erosion-prone land use in which soils face various agronomic issues, such as poor organic carbon levels, erosion, and fertility loss. Service crops providing a so-called ecosystem service can reduce erosion and runoff, regulate pests and weeds and increase soil organic matter and fertility. However, these crops may generate some disservices, such as water and nutrient competition; and thus, it is important for winegrowers to find applicable options for service crops depending on local soil, climate conditions, and the expected service. Inter-row management in the South Moravian Region varies from bare soils to grass cover to different types of cover with herbaceous (flowering) species. A total of 113 vineyard sites were evaluated during the years 2016 and 2017. This study presents the actual state of inter-row management in vineyards and comparison within six wine-growing regions. A two-year evaluation shows significant differences in prevalent greening management between regions. Bare soil in vineyards, the most erosion-prone vineyard floor management, appear from 10% (e.g., Bzenec, Valtice) to 19% (e.g., Mikulov, V. Bílovice) of vineyard area within evaluated regions. Bare soil management is mostly used in new plantations to reduce water and nutrient competition; however, the erosion and the runoff rates are generally higher on this variant compared to other types of cover crop management, especially on slopes. Although, alternate greening is the most used type occurring from 50% to 74% of vineyards area in five of the six selected regions, the type of inter-row vegetation differs considerably. While in Bzenec and Mikulov there is a higher appearance of herbaceous cover with native species in later succession stages, in Velké Bílovice and Valtice grass cover and commercial plant mixtures are more frequent. Knowledge current stage can be useful for planning new plantation or anti-erosion measures.

Abstract The current division of the Czech Republic into climatic regions was carried out according to basic criteria which meet the assumption of similar conditions for growth and development of agricultural crops. Ten climatic regions in the Czech Republic were labelled with numbers 0 (VT, very hot) to 9 (CH, cold). In this paper we have utilized selected agro-climatic characteristics for these climatic regions, which were not considered in the original classification. Evaluation was performed according to the daily interval of agro-meteorological model AVISO with the use of technical series of meteorological elements of a regular network of 789 grid points (10×10 km) for the period of 1961-2010.

Internal migration is one of the possible ways to reduce unemployment within the country. The aim of this paper is to compare the volume of internal migration between NUTS II regions in the Czech Republic and Austria and to try to identify factors that act to the migration flows. The results show that Austria is characterized by increased internal migration, international migration, as well as commuting to work in another region. Since the Czech Republic all these indicators lagging behind, it is necessary to determine whether the internal migration of both states is influenced by the same factors. Specifically, the paper examined the relationship of interregional migration and the average disposable income, unemployment rate, number of vacancies, the size and distance of regions, using the method of multiple linear regression analysis. While in the Czech Republic the internal migration is motivated by economic factors, in Austria, the relationship of migration and selected variables was not confirmed. The paper finds that residents of Austria are more active in terms of migration, but this move has obviously other than economic incentives.

The pukl, commonly called dudy, is a bellow-blown bagpipe whose origin and development can be traced to older forms known as grosser Bock and polnischer Bock. The instrument is an important feature in the identity of Chodsko, an ethonographic region of West Bohemia. This thesis shows the significance of the pukl in Chodish tradition through its organology, pedagogy, performance practice, and history. Through the novel Psohlavci, Alois Jirásek offered a footing for reinforcement of Chodish traditions. The thesis argues that a succession of makers, performers, teachers, institutions, and events have woven a web of tradition in which the pukl holds a significant position. Supporting evidence is shown from artworks that are visible to the public as well as decoration on the instrument. Selected from the Chodish canon, the beloved song, ‘Zelený hájové’, illustrates the use of the dialect and ornamentation as being indicative of the region. Two DVDs, The Call of Dudy and Zelený Hájové …, and a glossary of Chodish terms together with a catalogue of field recordings are included.

Annotation:
A growing global energy demand resulting from an ever increasing world population and scale of economic activity poses one of the world's main challenges for the future. The consequences of this rise in population and economic development include, among others, 'excessive' fossil fuel energy consumption and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The use of renewable energy sources (RES) can help to mitigate this pressure on energy demand. In connection with this, the European Union's climate policy strategy, in tandem with a reduction in greenhouse gases (GHGs), presses for the development of renewable energy. The generation of renewable energy, in particular biomass, contributes to economic development through the creation of employment opportunities. In particular, rural regions with limited development opportunities can benefit from renewable energy production and dissemination. European rural border regions are disadvantaged primarily because of their location, poor infrastructure and smaller populations. Border regions with a significant division of agricultural land and forest, however, can benefit from the increase of biomass and bioenergy generation. There are, nevertheless, many barriers associated with bioenergy development in general, and in cross-border regions in particular. Despite the fact that they are a unique category and require special consideration there is almost an academic void in respect of research focusing on renewable energy linked to border regions. This research addresses the following key aspects: the crucial factors required for bioenergy dissemination and the special characteristics of European border regions, and analyzes stakeholders ' perceptions along the bioenergy supply chain. Using the two-phase design inspired by Barton and Lazarsfeld (1984) in a mixed research design, semi-structured expert interviews and online/offline surveys were conducted with stakeholders based in the border regions between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, with their opinions measured using a Likert scale questionnaire. Both strands of data collection delivered similar perceptions, especially in the case of the stakeholders ' motivation for biomass use and bioenergy generation, in addition to differing assessments regarding the barriers for the growing of biomass, and bioenergy generation - mainly prompted by the diverse economic and legal envi ronments in each country. Among other findings, the study identified the fact that current market barriers resulting mostly from different financial incentives could be reduced if, at a European level, the various financial incentives were harmonized. In addition, common sustainable standards for bioenergy generation are required, in order to support the sustainable use of biomass and bioenergy generation. Moreover, the intensification of the transfer of knowledge and communication between cross-border parties, with the support of regional energy agencies, seems to be necessary, in order to improve knowledge of market opportu nities across border regions, and hence reduce the transaction costs in relation to bioenergy cooperation.

AbstractThe present chapter focuses on the role of the Visegrád group (or V4, comprising Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic) in international investment law-making. The chapter starts with a brief overview of the V4 group as a sub-regional system in Europe, including its modus operandi and main achievements in the field of economic cooperation. Subsequently, it turns to the regulation of foreign direct investment (FDI), both at the level of each V4 state and at EU level—with particular regard to the implication of the EU’s exclusive competence on FDI. Special attention is paid to the approach of the V4 countries towards the question of termination of intra-EU bilateral investment treaties (BITs)—including an overview of the related objections to jurisdiction that the four countries have raised over the years in investor-state arbitrations based on intra-EU BITs—and to the relationship of the V4 group with non-EU countries—especially with (selected) East Asian countries. The main question is whether—and to what extent—the V4 group as a sub-regional system has a role to play in international investment law-making. The chapter highlights the proactive and advocacy role that the V4 group has traditionally played in manifold subject-matters, including the promotion and protection of FDI, and supports the positive “soft power” the V4 may exercise in this respect.

The aim of the article is to make a comparison of brownfields in the South Moravian, Olomouc, Zlín and Moravian-Silesian regions based on the spatial standpoint. Data on brownfields were obtained through the National Database of Brownfields, which is managed by the CzechInvest agency. Information about these abandoned buildings and grounds were dated on 31st March 2021. The finding of the contribution is the fact that the most abandoned buildings and areas are mainly in Moravian-Silesian and South Moravian Region. Most of brownfields are after industrial activities, civic amenities and agricultural activities. In the given article, the analysis of brownfields according to individual indicators was performed on the basis of spatial and geographical point of view. It was found that most of the examined abandoned buildings and areas are located mainly in cities, which were followed by municipalities. Furthermore, it was proved that the size of brownfields from 54% is in area up to 1 (ha). The following indicator was the distance of abandoned buildings and areas from the centre of the cadastral area. Based on the results, it was found that 45% of the analysed brownfields are located 1-3 km from the centre of the cadastral area.

The paper aims to assess public research and development in NUTS 2 regions in the Czech Republic on the basis of selected determinants. The quantitative analysis of the selected determinants draws from data obtained in years 2011 and 2019 and applies multidimensional scaling to emphasise similarities and differences of public research in the regions. The results based on the evaluated determinants have shown a specific position of the Prague region, with the best results in public research and development in comparison to the other regions of the Czech Republic. The Central Bohemian and the Southwest regions also held a significant position in public research and development. By contrast, the Northwest region was found to be among the regions with the lowest potential for public research in both 2011 and 2019 (with the lowest volume of expenditures allocated to research and development in the public sector and the number of scientific publications per a million inhabitants). The analysis of 2019 showed a relatively low potential of public research also in the Moravian-Silesian region. The results demonstrate a different volume of public resources allocated to the financing of research and development in NUTS 2 regions in the Czech Republic, which is partially reflected

Medical tourism is one of the forms of tourism with dynamic development in recent years. To determine the strategic development of the area, it is necessary to determine the strengths of the destination with regard to trends and opportunities that the market offers. The aim of this paper is to identify the competitive advantages of the Czech Republic in terms of medical tourism and answer the key question whether the Czech Republic has the prerequisites for future development. The evaluation was performed on the basis of a comparison of research reports of the Czech Tourist Board (CzechTourism) with international reports evaluating the competitiveness and position of the Czech Republic, namely the country reports of the International Medical Travel Journal, Euro Health Consumer Index, Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index. Furthermore, the services offered for foreign tourists were evaluated. A price comparison of selected procedures was also included. Based on the analysis, the competitive advantages of the Czech Republic were determined. The identified competitive advantages show that the Czech Republic has good potential for the development of medical tourism. Based on a comparison of the main final reports of foreign and domestic organizations, it follows that the main competitive advantages of the Czech Republic in the field of medical tourism are almost zero waiting times and low cost of quality medical procedures and quality medical care.

The research is focused on teachers‘ approaches, opinions, and visions concerning inclusive education in the South Moravian Region and the Split-Dalmatian County. Further to that, it analyses the degree of Inclusion in these areas. The relationship of pedagogues towards Inclusion, due to a steep increase of specific disorders, is extremely important. The research was made in the year when the inclusive education bill was passed in the Czech Republic. Data was collected in the first school year when schools in Czech Republic functioned as in-clusive. Data collection took place in Split-Dalmatian county in 2016 and the South Moravian Region in 2017. The research is qualitative, an open-question questionnaire was made, and a non-structured interview was made when visiting schools. We set the following hypothe-ses. We assume that teachers of selected schools of the Split-Dalmatia County evaluate Inclusion more negatively than teachers of selected primary schools in the South Moravian Region. This hypothesis is not confirmed. We expect that Inclusion will take place in selected elementary schools in the South Moravian Region more than in selected elementary schools in Split-Dalmatia County. This hypothesis is not confirmed. This research is based on the methodology and data from the diploma thesis of Nikola Stračárová 2017 (Stračárová, 2017).

Water erosion is a problem of global significance. Water erosion destroys or damages a vast expanse of usable agricultural land every year. Conditions in the Czech Republic are characterized by high average slope of the land. It is reported that approximately half of land in the Czech Republic is threatened by water erosion. Water erosion is a natural process that cannot be fully prevented. In case of agricultural land an important option is suitable tillage, which may reduce symptoms of water erosion. The problem of water erosion of agricultural land is growing in the Czech Republic, which is mainly caused by the growth of wide areas of crops (maize). This is due to expansion of biogas power plants using parts of maize silage. The aim of paper is to evaluate and assess the crop stand establishment in conditions of resistance to water erosion. For this purpose, a field experiment was set up. This experiment affects the most widely used methods of maize cultivation in Central Bohemia region. It consists of six variants of crops and technologies stand establishment and control treatment without vegetation. To determine the surface runoff and erosive wash was used measurement by runoff microplots. From processed measurement the positive impact of reduced tillage on soil resistance to water erosion results can be confirmed. The consequence is a reduction of surface runoff and especially erosive washes of soil. Impact of ground cover with organic matter is favorable, even in case of conventional tillage. The results of the experiment are directly applicable to agricultural practices. Results of the experiment were used for the legislative recommendations of appropriate technology (wide-row crops on slopes).

The implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU in the Czech Republic brought many changes in the functioning and financing of agriculture in the Czech Republic with political, economic, and social impacts and many challenges and threats for Czech farmers. Since the Czech Republic acceded to the EU, the Common Agricultural Policy has been reformed several times. The aim of the article is to evaluate the impact of the Common Agricultural Policy on Czech farmers in 2014–2020. The evaluation is based on a qualitative survey among selected farmers in the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions. The research results show that enterprises positively evaluate financial stability and the overall protection of the agricultural sector. Support for the diversification of agriculture and support for the investment was also highlighted. On the contrary, the administrative burden, great emphasis on cross compliance rules, differences in the payments in EU countries, reducing the competitiveness of Czech agriculture and unfavourable conditions for livestock farmers were assessed negatively.

The young generation born in the mid-1990s and later is referred to as Generation Z. As the only post-war generation, they grew entirely on the World Wide Web and has been increasingly associated with the rapid increase in daily use of technology on a daily basis. Mainly the Internet and smart mobile phones have become an indispensable part of their lives and are often used in consumer preferences and during shopping. The paper focuses on the analysis and evaluation of selected results of Generation Z research in the Czech Republic in relation to shopping behaviour and on-line shopping. In terms of methodology, the research is based on an extensive quantitative questionnaire survey among members of a given generation in the Czech Republic. The results show that Generation Z a bit surprisingly prefers shopping in a brick-and-mortar store compared to online shopping. On the other hand, Czech young population not surprisingly spends the largest expenditures on food, entertainment, clothing and footwear, housing and travel, and this product mix is also reflected in the frequency of visits. This finding may be important for retailers and managers because, despite the ever-increasing implementation of smart technologies and an online lifestyle across all generations, brick-and-mortar businesses are still competitive to face this trend.

Australia was one of nine countries and economies to participate in the 2018 TALIS-PISA link study, together with Cuidad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Colombia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Georgia, Malta, Turkey and Viet Nam. This study involved coordinating the samples of schools that participated in the Program of International Student Assessment (PISA, a study of the performance of 15-year-old students) and the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS, a study that surveys teachers and principals in lower secondary schools) in 2018. A sample of teachers from schools that were selected to participate in PISA were invited to respond to the TALIS survey. TALIS data provides information regarding the background, beliefs and practices of lower secondary teachers and principals, and PISA data delivers insights into the background characteristics and cognitive and non-cognitive skills of 15-year-old students. Linking these data offers an internationally comparable dataset combining information on key education stakeholders. This report presents results of analyses of the relationships between teacher and school factors and student outcomes, such as performance on the PISA assessment, expectations for further study and experiences of school life. Results for Australia are presented alongside those of the average (mean) across all countries and economies that participated in the TALIS-PISA link study for comparison, but the focus remains on what relationships were significant among Australian students.
