Twitter is a social media giant famous for the exchange of short, 140-character messages called "tweets". In the scientific community, the microblogging site is known for openness in sharing its data. It provides a glance into its millions of users and billions of tweets through a "Streaming API" which provides a sample of all tweets matching some parameters preset by the API user. The API service has been used by many researchers, companies, and governmental institutions that want to extract knowledge in accordance with a diverse array of questions pertaining to social media. The essential drawback of the Twitter API is the lack of documentation concerning what and how much data users get. This leads researchers to question whether the sampled data is a valid representation of the overall activity on Twitter. In this work we embark on answering this question by comparing data collected using Twitter's sampled API service with data collected using the full, albeit costly, Firehose stream that includes every single published tweet. We compare both datasets using common statistical metrics as well as metrics that allow us to compare topics, networks, and locations of tweets. The results of our work will help researchers and practitioners understand the implications of using the Streaming API.

AbstractRobots for hire instead of purchase are developing an increasing interest among customers. This article will present a concept developed at ZeMA for the integration of a blockchain-based payment module and manipulation-proof documentation of process-specific data. This should improve the business model of hiring robots not only in terms of technical components but also in terms of economic considerations. In this way, the billing process can be automated to a certain extent, and a legally secure basis with the manipulation-proof storage of process-specific data can be created. The advantages and disadvantages of blockchain, in relation to Robot as a Service, will be highlighted and it will be shown how the disadvantages can be negated. The current limits of blockchain will also be shown. The blockchain technology IOTA is used.

Introduction: Ensuring scientific reproducibility and compliance with documentation guidelines of funding bodies and journals is a topic of greatly increasing importance in biomedical research. Failure to comply, or unawareness of documentation standards can have adverse effects on the translation of research into patient treatments, as well as economic implications. In the context of the German Research Foundation-funded collaborative research center (CRC) 1002, an IT-infrastructure sub-project was designed. Its goal has been to establish standardized metadata documentation and information exchange benefitting the participating research groups with minimal additional documentation efforts. Methods: Implementation of the self-developed menoci-based research data platform (RDP) was driven by close communication and collaboration with researchers as early adopters and experts. Requirements analysis and concept development involved in person observation of experimental procedures, interviews and collaboration with researchers and experts, as well as the investigation of available and applicable metadata standards and tools. The Drupal-based RDP features distinct modules for the different documented data and workflow types, and both the development and the types of collected metadata were continuously reviewed and evaluated with the early adopters. Results: The menoci-based RDP allows for standardized documentation, sharing and cross-referencing of different data types, workflows, and scientific publications. Different modules have been implemented for specific data types and workflows, allowing for the enrichment of entries with specific metadata and linking to further relevant entries in different modules. Discussion: Taking the workflows and datasets of the frequently involved experimental service projects as a starting point for (meta-)data types to overcome irreproducibility of research data, results in increased benefits for researchers with minimized efforts. While the menoci-based RDP with its data models and metadata schema was originally developed in a cardiological context, it has been implemented and extended to other consortia at GÃűttingen Campus and beyond in different life science research areas.

This chapter illustrates Jewish artists and craftsmen working together for the Church and its institutions. This is unexpected, because even current historiography is still centered on instances of tension and dispute and has the story of hostility as its central preoccupation. To be sure, historians are not pointing readers in the wrong direction since much of the relations in the past were unfortunately marked by persecutions and massive bloodshed. But this study prepares the readers to encounter instances of tolerance, of humanity, and of collaboration that existed then, as surely as they exist now. Ample documentation points to Jewish silversmiths, bookbinders, painters, and coral craftsmen helping Christians decorate their devotional articles.

The discipline of service science encourages the need to develop alternative and more scientific approaches to conceptualise modern service network environments. This chapter identifies the opportunity to apply organisational network analysis (ONA) as a novel approach to model agile service interaction. ONA also supports the visualisation of a service infrastructure which sustains agile practice. The objective of this chapter is to demonstrate how the concept of agile service network (ASN) may be examined through an unconventional method to model service operations. ONA demonstrates the exchange of resources and competencies through an ASN infrastructure. Ultimately, this chapter provides a platform to develop an audit framework with associated metrics borrowed from ONA. ONA concepts offer a new analytical approach towards ASN (for example, structural, composition, behavioural, and functional). This has a significant theoretical contribution for software engineering performance.

Service-oriented computing is an interesting paradigm not only for building business applications but also for scientific applications requiring a loosely-coupled communication system between its components. In particular, scientific applications involving symbolic computations that are both computational and data intensive have proved in the last years to be adequate for implementation in service-oriented architectures, mainly due to the standards promoted for communications or service discovery. This chapter discusses the main issues and problems encountered in the transition from the classical symbolic computations based on stand-alone computer algebra systems towards service-oriented symbolic computations, such as building services from legacy codes, discover, compose and orchestrate services, standardize the exchange data formats. Moreover, several new approaches to solve at least partially these transition problems have been recently implemented, tested and are revealed in this chapter.

From the Manhattan Project onwards, the free exchange implicit in the collective enterprise of scientific knowledge production became regulated and increasingly clandestine. Neal White's artistic research is explicitly engaged in interrogating both the investigative procedures of science as method and the ways in which these procedures can be turned toward an investigation of secrecy itself. In their discussion, Beck and White explore the ideas and practices that inform White's conception of art as a mode of experimental research. Central to this project is what White calls 'overt research,' whereby the spaces of techno-scientific and military-industrial enterprise are explored through the documentation of physical sites and material evidence. In the exhibition Dark Places (Hansard Gallery, Southampton, 2009), White and others explored the ways in which such places are both embedded and imaginatively narrated as part of a contemporary UK landscape. White’s projects are discussed in relation to issues shaped by Cold War research: secrecy, surveillance, accountability, participation, and the power relations implicit in knowledge production.

Lean healthcare presents as a potential means to overcome barriers in the health sector by eliminating unnecessary movements, waiting, transport, and stockpiles. However, time spent in set-up activities does not add value to the process because the patient is not receiving service. One of the Lean tools that can help mitigate waste in those activities is the single-minute exchange of die (SMED); therefore, this study aims to evaluate the implications of using SMED in the health context. The authors conducted an exploratory search in scientific documents to achieve this goal. The content analysis was based on Bardin. From the findings, it is possible to identify the implications of the use of SMED in the health context, sort activities between internal and external setup, and reduce time spent on wasteful tasks, while increasing time available for value-adding activities.

Web-based problem solving environments provide sharing, execution and monitoring of scientific workflows. Where they depend on general purpose workflow development systems, the workflow notations are likely far too powerful and complex, especially in the area of biology, where programming skills are rare. On the other hand, application specific workflow systems may use special purpose languages and execution engines, suffering from a lack of standards, portability, documentation, stability of investment etc. In both cases, the need to support yet another application on the desk-top places a burden on the system administration of a research lab. In previous research the authors have developed the web based workflow systems Calvin and Hobbes, which enable biologists and computer scientists to approach these problems in collaboration. Both systems use a server-centric Web 2.0 based approach. Calvin is tailored to molecular biology applications, with a simple graphical workflow-language and easy access to existing BioMoby web services. Calvin workflows are compiled to industry standard BPEL workflows, which can be edited and refined in collaboration between researchers and computer scientists using the Hobbes tool. Together, Calvin and Hobbes form our workflow platform MoBiFlow, whose principles, design, and use cases are described in this paper.

Facebook is a general social network, which allows registered Internet users to create their network: friendly, professional, family, etc. Twitter is a social network dedicated to micro-blogging, that is, the rapid exchange of information. Social networking sites are fast becoming one of the most popular tools for social interaction and information exchange. Previous research has shown a relationship between users' personalities and the use of their conveyed images and the emergence of fakenews. In addition, a preference for Facebook is often associated with the user's status (novice, general public, etc.) with personality differences such as journalists, politicians or academics, researchers who prefer (twitter) to disseminate information and news. Facebook is the dominant social network in terms of number of members, number of daily visitors and the number of exchanges it generates. It allows its users to connect with their acquaintances: whether professional, friendly, or other types. The goal of Facebook is to connect people with each other and allow them to interact around their personal social network. Twitter a social network dedicated to microblogging: users can communicate with each other through short messages no longer than 140 characters. The challenge here is to be aware of the information in real time and to react to it very quickly. This social network is enjoying worldwide and growing success in media ournalistic and political circles . Twitter and Facebook try to provide information and documentation services like digital libraries which are the permanent sources for scientific communities We will focus our assessment on macro criteria as essential: - ergonomics services, information retrieval services, personalized access services, documentation services, participatory services, networking services

The indissoluble relationship, society-information sustained through the information exchange, is an essential facet in the existence of society, a reality that defines primarily the society in relation to all components of its development. With the increasing role of science in society’s development, area of scientific information was expanded, representing a wide range of communication fields. Scientific information has led to a multifaceted development of infodocumentary structures, activities and services. In the growing competition that takes place today in the university environment, a university can create its own significant advantages, relating to optimal access to the new information of its domain, based on a strong information technology infrastructure. Today, electronic materials for documentation are a bibliographic source of reference for the research process, elaboration of scientific work and teaching / learning processes. Involvement of digital libraries in e-learning process uses the Web to retrieve and access study materials. These libraries should not be treated as mere collections of digitized documents, but as an accumulation of collections, services and specialists supporting activities of creation, preservation, dissemination, and utilization of data, information and knowledge of that. The main goals of the digital library in supporting e-learning process using Web refers to improving students performance, increasing the quantity and quality of educational resources via the Internet, facilitating retrieval and access to these resources in order to optimally capitalize them and not least to ensure that these resources will be available over time. Web 2.0 Library enables users to retrieve needed information by the desired subject search, access to scientific resources and interact with experts in various fields of interest. Web 2.0 Library provides direct access to library catalogs, to scientific databases, collections of electronic books, reserved electronic courses, allowing communication through forums. It is recommended fruitful communication between the library and educational institution that it serves, the purposes of encouraging the learning process via the Internet, also involving students in this working relationship, expecting permanent feedback from them. The librarians sustain processes of selection, processing and indexing of information resources from the Web, allowing access to articles from databases, both in full-text version and the reviewed ones. The collaboration of the library with academic field that comprise it, with the researchers, the editors, will benefit in developing collections of online publications. Library involvement in electronic learning process needs library professionals that have good knowledge in IT, web, information and communication science, skills for optimal material selection, for classification of information resources into logical categories, to create indexes and search engines, for constant improvement of the classification categories. Development of web 2.0 technologies is a catalyst for libraries, in supporting e-learning processes developed in academic area. The concept created by web 2.0 determined the infodocumentary structures unit to pursue the goal: Library 2.0, as a pillar for the development of e-learning phenomenon.

The research on IT project team management for web communication service aims to develop and implement an information and communication platform that will facilitate efficient information exchange between the department and stakeholders. The main objectives of the project include creating a website that will serve as a central hub for information exchange among students, faculty, administration, prospective students, and employers. Additionally, the project envisions providing access to up-to-date news, announcements, admission information, opportunities, and achievements of the institute, as well as enhancing the institute's visibility in society. The project establishes clear achievement criteria centered on developing functional web pages that cater to the needs of different user groups. The project does face constraints, particularly financial limitations that affect available resources and implementation possibilities. The project also operates within a specific time frame, which imposes limitations on the development, implementation, and testing of all functional elements. For instance, the timing of enrollment campaigns, exam sessions, and modular assessments imposes time-sensitive constraints on delivering current news and announcements. Additionally, resource constraints, such as the availability of a developer and designer team and access to specialized software due to budgetary limitations, pose challenges. Both resource limitations and legislative restrictions impact project realization. Despite these constraints, the project is built on several assumptions. Specifically, it assumes the availability of necessary infrastructure and internal resources within the educational institution for implementing and maintaining the website. Furthermore, it anticipates a positive user response to the introduction of the platform and its functionality. Moreover, the project expects the availability of relevant information and compliance with information security and legislative requirements. The research can serve as a foundation for the creation and development of a web communication service for an educational institution or organization. Its recommendations and conclusions will help take into account key aspects and requirements to ensure effective information exchange among different user groups.

Nowadays different approaches are used by the companies to systematically compare and evaluate logistics service providers. The purpose of this study is to define and classify requirements, evaluation criteria and quality criteria set towards logistics service providers. In this study, information is gathered about the selection arrangements for logistics providers, which were collected from several companies. Authors looked for information related to the following questions: what are the criteria for evaluating logistics service providers; what are the requirements that logistics providers need to ensure to become a partner; what are the objectives of the selection contests (procurement tenders) defined by the companies; what are the main service quality indicators that are used to measure the performance of logistics service providers. Companies originated in the European Union from various countries have been examined. A literature review was conducted that helped to collect information regarding application of multiple-criteria decision-making for selection of logistics service providers and extract proposed selection criteria. Analysis of procurement documentation by logistics service providers was done to extract and group data that will be used to develop decision-making framework in further research. Authors created unique groups of logistics service providers selection criteria, requirements towards logistics service providers, selection goals and key performance indicators. Finally, general market research of pre-defined industries was made. There are very few studies dedicated to selection of criteria and requirements towards logistics service providers. Companies tend to formulate selection criteria of logistics service providers in general manner, at the same time, not paying attention to formulating selection process goals.

The scientific and technological development of society directly affects the state organization, posing new challenges both in terms of its organization and way of working, as well as in terms of the role and new functions it performs. Looking at the most developed countries in the world, we can see the wide application of modern information and communication technologies (ICT), which are used in the digitalization of work processes, the provision of services, but also in administrative decision-making (procedure). This directly saves time and money. Viewed chronologically, management models appear precisely as a response to the new challenges posed to management, brought about by the general development of society, and its success largely depends on the ability to keep up with social (even technical) changes. (to accept new challenges and not avoid them). In this sense, in the era of new technologies, "smart" devices and the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence, it is unthinkable for any organization to function without the application of new technical achievements, especially in the field of service provision. The central place in the work will be occupied by the data center, i.e. its services as a prerequisite for quality, safe and secure provision of e-services by the public administration. Data center services, which can be defined simply as hardware and software rental services (storage and data processing), include several aspects - security, legal, technical, financial, etc. which will be discussed more in appropriate places in the work. This issue is given special importance by the fact that the users of data center services are becoming more and more government bodies and organizations, which base their work operations of communication, records, storage, exchange and processing of data on modern ICT technologies, that is, on the services provided by data centers.

In the development strategy of Ukraine Industry 4.0, it is stated that relevant and promising scientific and engineering services are: the creation of new software products, including 4.0 technologies; industrial automation and complex engineering; development and production of complex, low-volume, or unique products. In the conditions of mixed education, which is related to the pandemic and martial law in Ukraine, the question of how to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for mastering the basics of developing and programming embedded systems that work with the use of smart technologies and Internet of Things technologies is quite relevant. . In the absence of access to ESP8266, ESP32 IoT modules, students are invited to simulate their work in the Wokwi cloud service. The paper considers the temperature and humidity monitoring system in the DWEET.IO cloud service on the ESP8266 IoT module and the DHT11 combined sensor. Prototyping the operation of such a system in the Wokwi service is performed on an ESP32 IoT module and a DHT22 sensor, with the simulation of data transmission to the IoT cloud service. The article provides the source codes of the temperature and humidity monitoring system program. The proposed approach allows for prototyping embedded systems that work using smart technologies and Internet of Things technologies without the presence of IoT modules and sensors. The Wokwi cloud service allows you to configure the software part of embedded systems and connect to real cloud services of the Internet of Things with the simulation of data exchange via a wireless interface using Wi-Fi technology of the 802.11g standard.

The Standard Technical Documentation of the Association of Mechanical Engineers is elaborated by a team of experts on the base of an actual knowledge and practice as a part of a row of recommendations for an assessment of strength and reliability, choice of materials and solution of service problems of the Czech nuclear power plants. It was elaborated by the Association of Mechanical Engineers as an important help for a practice. This issue is published from the following main reasons: 1. The criteria for an assessment of reliability and safety of technical tasks have changed in a last decades by influence of development of fracture mechanics and a diagnostics of an actual components of the nuclear power plants, exposed to a static and dynamic strength in a service and to effects of an aggressive environment, leading to an origin of integrity failure. The access is changed now from an assessment of an original strength to a long-term operation and service reliability. A conception of a choice of suitable materials has changed, especially about an influence of production technology on barriers against a degradation of material mechanical characteristics. Imaginations also changed about increasing of a resistance against a damage of material components in complex service conditions. New scientific knowledge it is necessary to apply responsibly just in a construction of as important equipment as nuclear power plants are. 2. A social responsibility is increasing for economic and ecological behavior and hence manners of service control are always innovated. A problematic of a residual lifetime of those tasks is connected with. A prolongation of a lifetime without a risk of equipment failure hereto is a principal demand of capital-intensive units. 3. In a last decades a possibility of efficient use either an automatic service diagnostics or an inspection of component state in service brakes has deepened. It is necessary to enable a right engagement of this instrumentation and to interpret in a right way obtained information. 4. An international cooperation in this important region is developed, an elaboration of information and their common deepening has a substantial importance for a future of a nuclear energetic. A dissembling of service obstacles, an objective analysis of failure situations and a method of their control is today’s obvious duty of an international cooperation. Programs of all variants of a possible damage and its control must be prepared. It is impossible at once to apply all those aspects in provisions and recommendations. Issued provisions however must be constantly improved and complemented.

Exterior parts of complex constructions are widely used in internal combustion engines for various purposes, such as pumps, compressors, etc. Solving the problem of high-quality repair of parts of complex configuration, effective control of their technical condition during their reuse requires solving a number of engineering, technological and metrological tasks. The durability of modern cylinder blocks is ensured by the use of high-quality materials, improved element construction, equal strength of parts with optimal manufacturability, maintainability, quality of assembly and service. To conduct the research, technological schemes for monitoring and measuring deviations in the location of the main geometric parameters of the cylinder block were developed. Engineering documentation and technological support for the manufacture of a control and measuring device for controlling the alignment of the holes of the main bearings were developed. Processing of the measurement results by indicator devices in the workshop conditions shows that the deviation from the alignment or displacement of the middle root supports relative to the extreme ones can reach a value of -0.08 to +0.09 mm, which is significantly beyond the diameter limit. The values of the results show that the maximum deviations occur in the horizontal plane (1800 - 3600) with a transition to the lower part of the vertical plane. This direction of displacement can be explained by the zone of maximum values of the forces acting during the engine operation. It should be assumed that the values of actual deviations in the range of -0.04 to +0.04 can be accepted for the use of cylinder blocks. The construction of the device with indicator counting devices was developed to ensure control and measurement of the alignment of the holes of the main bearings. Laboratory tests of the device and metrological evaluation of the permissible measurement error were carried out. The results obtained made it possible to increase the productivity of defect detection work and develop recommendations for improving the aftermarket reliability of engines.

A fundamental responsibility of the National Park Service (NPS) is to ensure that park resources are preserved, protected, and managed in consideration of the resources themselves and for the benefit and enjoyment by the public. Through the inventory, monitoring, and study of park resources, we gain a greater understanding of the scope, significance, distribution, and management issues associated with these resources and their use. This baseline of natural resource information is available to inform park managers, scientists, stakeholders, and the public about the conditions of these resources and the factors or activities which may threaten or influence their stability. There are several different categories of geologic or stratigraphic units (supergroup, group, formation, member, bed) which represent a hierarchical system of classification. The mapping of stratigraphic units involves the evaluation of lithologies, bedding properties, thickness, geographic distribution, and other factors. If a new mappable geologic unit is identified, it may be described and named through a rigorously defined process that is standardized and codified by the professional geologic community (North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature 2005). In most instances when a new geologic unit such as a formation is described and named in the scientific literature, a specific and well-exposed section of the unit is designated as the type section or type locality (see Definitions). The type section is an important reference section for a named geologic unit which presents a relatively complete and representative profile. The type or reference section is important both historically and scientifically, and should be protected and conserved for researchers to study and evaluate in the future. Therefore, this inventory of geologic type sections in NPS areas is an important effort in documenting these locations in order that NPS staff recognize and protect these areas for future studies. The documentation of all geologic type sections throughout the 423 units of the NPS is an ambitious undertaking. The strategy for this project is to select a subset of parks to begin research for the occurrence of geologic type sections within particular parks. The focus adopted for completing the baseline inventories throughout the NPS was centered on the 32 inventory and monitoring networks (I&M) established during the late 1990s. The I&M networks are clusters of parks within a defined geographic area based on the ecoregions of North America (Fenneman 1946; Bailey 1976; Omernik 1987). These networks share similar physical resources (geology, hydrology, climate), biological resources (flora, fauna), and ecological characteristics. Specialists familiar with the resources and ecological parameters of the network, and associated parks, work with park staff to support network level activities (inventory, monitoring, research, data management). Adopting a network-based approach to inventories worked well when the NPS undertook paleontological resource inventories for the 32 I&M networks. The network approach is also being applied to the inventory for the geologic type sections in the NPS. The planning team from the NPS Geologic Resources Division who proposed and designed this inventory selected the Greater Yellowstone Inventory and Monitoring Network (GRYN) as the pilot network for initiating this project. Through the research undertaken to identify the geologic type sections within the parks of the GRYN methodologies for data mining and reporting on these resources were established. Methodologies and reporting adopted for the GRYN have been used in the development of this type section inventory for the Klamath Inventory & Monitoring Network. The goal of this project is to consolidate information pertaining to geologic type sections which occur within NPS-administered areas, in order that this information is available throughout the NPS to inform park managers...

Through the research undertaken to identify the geologic type sections within the parks of the GRYN methodologies for data mining and reporting on these resources was established. Methodologies and reporting adopted for the GRYN have been used in the development of this type section inventory for the Northern Colorado Plateau Inventory & Monitoring Network. The goal of this project is to consolidate information pertaining to geologic type sections which occur within NPS-administered areas, in order that this information is available throughout the NPS...

Milek, Karen, und Richard Jones, Hrsg. Science in Scottish Archaeology: ScARF Panel Report. Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, September 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.9750/scarf.06.2012.193.

The main recommendations of the panel report can be summarised under four key headings:  High quality, high impact research: the importance of archaeological science is reflected in work that explores issues connected to important contemporary topics, including: the demography of, the nature of movement of, and contact between peoples; societal resilience; living on the Atlantic edge of Europe; and coping with environmental and climatic change. A series of large-scale and integrated archaeological science projects are required to stimulate research into these important topics. To engage fully with Science in Scottish Archaeology iv these questions data of sufficient richness is required that is accessible, both within Scotland and internationally. The RCAHMS’ database Canmore provides a model for digital dissemination that should be built on.  Integration: Archaeological science should be involved early in the process of archaeological investigation and as a matter of routine. Resultant data needs to be securely stored, made accessible and the research results widely disseminated. Sources of advice and its communication must be developed and promoted to support work in the commercial, academic, research, governmental and 3rd sectors.  Knowledge exchange and transfer: knowledge, data and skills need to be routinely transferred and embedded across the archaeological sector. This will enable the archaeological science community to better work together, establishing routes of communication and improving infrastructure. Improvements should be made to communication between different groups including peers, press and the wider public. Mechanisms exist to enable the wider community to engage with, and to feed into, the development of the archaeological and scientific database and to engage with current debates. Projects involving the wider community in data generation should be encouraged and opportunities for public engagement should be pursued through, for example, National Science Week and Scottish Archaeology Month.  Networks and forums: A network of specialists should be promoted to aid collaboration, provide access to the best advice, and raise awareness of current work. This would be complemented by creating a series inter-disciplinary working groups, to discuss and articulate archaeological science issues. An online service to match people (i.e. specialist or student) to material (whether e.g. environmental sample, artefactual assemblage, or skeletal assemblage) is also recommended. An annual meeting should also be held at which researchers would be able to promote current and future work, and draw attention to materials available for analysis, and to specialists/students looking to work on particular assemblages or projects. Such meetings could be rolled into a suitable public outreach event.

Allen, Kathy, Andy Nadeau und Andy Robertston. Natural resource condition assessment: Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. National Park Service, Mai 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2293613.

The Natural Resource Condition Assessment (NRCA) Program aims to provide documentation about the current conditions of important park natural resources through a spatially explicit, multi-disciplinary synthesis of existing scientific data and knowledge. Findings from the NRCA will help Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument (SAPU) managers to develop near-term management priorities, engage in watershed or landscape scale partnership and education efforts, conduct park planning, and report program performance (e.g., Department of the Interior’s Strategic Plan “land health” goals, Government Performance and Results Act). The objectives of this assessment are to evaluate and report on current conditions of key park resources, to evaluate critical data and knowledge gaps, and to highlight selected existing stressors and emerging threats to resources or processes. For the purpose of this NRCA, staff from the National Park Service (NPS) and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota – GeoSpatial Services (SMUMN GSS) identified key resources, referred to as “components” in the project. The selected components include natural resources and processes that are currently of the greatest concern to park management at SAPU. The final project framework contains nine resource components, each featuring discussions of measures, stressors, and reference conditions. This study involved reviewing existing literature and, where appropriate, analyzing data for each natural resource component in the framework to provide summaries of current condition and trends in selected resources. When possible, existing data for the established measures of each component were analyzed and compared to designated reference conditions. A weighted scoring system was applied to calculate the current condition of each component. Weighted Condition Scores, ranging from zero to one, were divided into three categories of condition: low concern, moderate concern, and significant concern. These scores help to determine the current overall condition of each resource. The discussions for each component, found in Chapter 4 of this report, represent a comprehensive summary of current available data and information for these resources, including unpublished park information and perspectives of park resource managers, and present a current condition designation when appropriate. Each component assessment was reviewed by SAPU resource managers, NPS Southern Colorado Plateau Network (SCPN) staff, or outside experts. Existing literature, short- and long-term datasets, and input from NPS and other outside agency scientists support condition designations for components in this assessment. However, in some cases, data were unavailable or insufficient for several of the measures of the featured components. In other instances, data establishing reference condition were limited or unavailable for components, making comparisons with current information inappropriate or invalid. In these cases, it was not possible to assign condition for the components. Current condition was not able to be determined for six of the ten components due to these data gaps. For those components with sufficient available data, the overall condition varied. Two components were determined to be in good condition: dark night skies and paleontological resources. However, both were at the edge of the good condition range, and any small decline in conditions could shift them into the moderate concern range. Of the components in good condition, a trend could not be assigned for paleontological resources and dark night skies is considered stable. Two components (wetland and riparian communities and viewshed) were of moderate concern, with no trend assigned for wetland and riparian communities and a stable trend for viewshed. Detailed discussion of these designations is presented in Chapters 4 and 5 of this report. Several park-wide threats and stressors influence the condition of priority resources in SAPU...
