Two separate school districts—a city one and a county one—operated independently in Durham, North Carolina, until the early 1990s. The two districts merged relatively late compared to other North Carolina cities, such as Raleigh and Charlotte. In Durham, residents in both the county and city systems vehemently opposed the merger until the county commissioners ultimately bypassed a popular vote. African American advocates in the city school district, in particular, faced an impossible trade-off: city schools increasingly struggled financially because of an inequitable funding structure, but a merger would significantly threaten fair racial representation on the consolidated school board. This article explores this core tension in historical context by looking at several failed merger attempts from 1958 to 1988, as well as the 1991 merger implementation, against the backdrop of desegregation, economic transition, profound metropolitan changes, and protracted political battles in Durham.

Synopsis The Indian telecom market was witnessing a fierce price war, especially from an aggressive entry of a new player Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) with a predatory pricing strategy. To react to the increasingly intense rivalry and maintain top positions, the second and third largest telecom operator like Vodafone India and Idea Cellular Limited (Idea) decided to merge together. The combined entity would become the largest wireless carrier in India. Was the merger the right competitive strategy for Vodafone India and Idea to fight against the wars? What synergies could the merger bring about? Given Vodafone India and Idea agreed to maintain their respective brands after the merger, would the two brands compete and cannibalize each other’s market share? As the Indian telecom industry was undergoing the liberalization of airwaves, how should the merged entity overcome potential regulatory hurdles? If this mega merger went through, what could be the impacts on the Indian telecom industry? If not, how should the companies move forward with the competition? Research methodology This case study research is based on published information of the focal companies and their operating environment. The case is written in such a way that can be depicted by related theoretical perspectives available from leading journals and books. There is no disguise of any actual persons or entities and no personal relationship between the authors and the organizations or individuals mentioned in the case. Relevant courses and levels The case study is intended for senior undergraduate and graduate level business school students in courses, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive strategies, industry analysis and marketing strategies. Theoretical bases The case is grounded on the industrial organization and resource-based theories, where the actions and reactions of competitors in the market are driven by their awareness, motivation and capability toward the competitive situation. Leveraging on a highly competitive and consolidated, unique Indian telecom market, the authors analyze competitive situations of the industry, evaluate potential synergistic benefits and market power from the merger of competitors, and give recommendations for the merged entity to overcome regulatory hurdles in the industry that is undergoing deregulation and to move forward with effective strategies to compete and strengthen market positions in such industry environment.

The purpose of this article is to conduct an empirical study to identify the nature of the impact of mergers and acquisitions on Pakistan’s financial sector performance. The research in the article is carried out in the following logical sequence: a thorough literature review on the analysis of key aspects of mergers and acquisitions and their impact on the financial and economic performance of banks before and after their practical implementation; the historical basis of the experience of mergers and acquisitions caused by various economic factors, such as: GDP growth, interest rates on loans, monetary policy; financial analysis of bank profitability, solvency and liquidity indicators before and after the merger and acquisition was conducted. Five commercial banks of Pakistan that were involved in the merger and acquisition processes were selected as the subject of study. The study period is presented before and after the merger and includes two years before the acquisition report and two years after the acquisition announcement by analysis of financial ratios of liquidity, solvency and profitability. The results of empirical and theoretical research have shown that there is a positive relationship between merger and acquisition processes and liquidity ratios of banking institutions; and – the negative impact of such processes on banks’ profitability and solvency in the short term. The author states that the main limitation of the study is the unavailability of financial data until 2006 and the use of a small sample size and a low likelihood of data collection technique, which is limited by a certain type of people and lack of generalization. Keywords: merger, acquisition, bank, solvency risk, liquidity, profitability.

This article reports on a study of primary-aged students’ perceptions of what makes a good teacher for them. In 2012, as a result of a government directive, the three schools in this study merged into one but still operated across the three school sites. The focus of the study was on the students’ perceptions of their teachers, not the merger. Specifically, this study sought to include students’ self-reporting of how they saw good teachers and teaching. The results indicate that, for these students, the teacher–student relationship, two specific teacher attributes, and two sets of teaching ability characteristics were most important.

Using a case study approach, this paper describes the history and considers the success of an innovative hybrid school model aimed at improving access to quality primary education in inner-city Kingston, Jamaica. It examines access, student achievement, non-academic issues and the challenges of COVID-19. It draws on personal experience and data from empirical research at the Chetolah Mel Nathan Education Centre, a recent merger of the Mel Nathan Preparatory School and the Chetolah Park Primary School in inner-city Kingston. The merger of these two schools resulted in the higher aspirations and outcomes associated with the prep school ethos, along with the range of government resources. While this particular hybrid model depended on a unique situation in Jamaica, it points to the more general potential for co-production in Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and further afield.

The purpose of this study was to examine the merger of the school systems of the City of South Norfolk and Norfolk County in the State of Virginia. The merger of these two geographical entitites was consummated on January 1, 1963. Norfolk County was formed in 1636 by the Virginia General Assembly. The cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, and South Norfolk were carved from this county. A series of annexations by these cities between 1940 and 1960 cost Norfolk County thirty-three square miles of territory, 110,000 residents, and {dollar}1,881,000 in revenue.;In order to protect its viability, Norfolk County voted to merge with the small City of South Norfolk. The City of Chesapeake was formed. Since schools were a major issue during the pre-merger campaign, this study examined the merger of the two school systems with primary emphasis on the control of power and the distribution of resources for facilities in the newly formed city.;The research data included primary and secondary sources in the areas of documents, newspapers, oral history, quantitative records, historical texts, and relics. A number of major figures in the school system of that period were available for personal interviews.;The hypothesis that resources for facilities were distributed equitably to the former South Norfolk and Norfolk County areas was accepted. Equitable did not mean equal since South Norfolk schools were in much greater physical need at the time of the 1963 merger. Therefore, the new Chesapeake School Board provided a larger share of the 1963 bond revenues and other fiscal resources to the former South Norfolk schools.;The hypothesis that the power in the newly merged Chesapeake School System was unevenly controlled by former Norfolk County leaders and residents was accepted. While it is fair to conclude from a review of School Board minutes, newspapers, periodicals, and interviews that former Norfolk County leaders and residents controlled decisionmaking through the Chesapeake School Board and major central office leadership roles, there was no indication that this power was used unjustly. Research into sources of the period and extensive interviews indicated that the leaders genuinely wanted the best for the new school system.;The issues of power and distribution of resources examined in this dissertation must be considered in any merger of school systems. Research into other school system mergers would advance this study.

To better understand large mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as major intercorporate strategic maneuvers, I study a key concern from the chief executive perspective at each stage of combining two firms. For the inception stage, I explore CEO merger motives; for the implementation stage, I examine CEO leadership; for the outcome stage, I consider the postacquisition mobility consequences for CEOs as well as the financial performance of the merged firms. ][ study these issues in the total sequence of merging from the perspectives of the acquiring and the target CEOs. The investigation relies on interviews with selected CEOs and also secondary data on all CEOs and firms participating in the 158 largest U.S. public M&A deals announced during the 1990s worldwide merger wave and completed during 1993-2002. These large deals embodied unprecedented valuation and complexity requiring the sustained attention and commitment of chief executives from both sides of the transaction. The first empirical section explores CEO motivations for merging. Merger motives have not been well understood, and previous research has tended to segment perspectives from different disciplines.
(cont.) Drawing on strategic management, organization studies, and financial economics, I examine the five merger motives advanced to date-synergy, managerialism, hubris, free cash flow, and imitation-and add the overarching motive of metamorphosis. The metamorphosis motive proposes that mergers create profound organizational change in three dimensions: (1) management structure, (2) strategic direction, and (3) corporate culture. The second section examines CEO leadership roles in M&A transactions. Drawing on the knowledge and resource based views of the firm and the literature on the chief executive function, I identify three phases in the similar merger-related roles of acquiring and target CEOs. In the context of large U.S. mergers in the financial services, computer software, oil and gas, telecommunications, and utilities industries, the purview of acquiring and target CEOs included: (1) making the merger, (2) placing and displacing people, and (3) fulfilling the strategic vision. The third section applies perspectives from human capital, social capital, market discipline, and dyadic relative standing to analyze the impact of mergers and acquisitions on the subsequent career mobility of the merger architects.
(cont.) My analysis differs from previous research by providing a finer-grained operationalization of relative status, examining the fates of both acquiring and target CEOs, and determining postacquisition career outcomes beyond stay or go. Based on a sample of completed large M&A transactions, I conclude that acquiring as well as target CEOs experience elevated departure rates compared to non-merged CEOs; that human capital, social capital and market discipline do not explain departure incidence but that the status parity or discrepancy between the partnering CEOs does; and that merger-displaced CEOs continue to have elite job prospects in public and private firms. Moreover, I determine that the average financial performance of the merged firms in the dataset confirms the established finding of null return to the acquiring firm shareholders relative to the appropriate market benchmark.

Although there has been much research on school mergers, there has not been a strong focus on the way in which heads of departments (hereafter HoDs) in the North West province experience school mergers. This qualitative case study, which used an interpretative paradigm, built on and contributed to understanding successful strategies used by displaced HoDs from middle to primary or secondary schools in performing their roles and responsibilities after the school mergers, the challenges they experienced and how they approached such challenges. Semi-structured interviews and a document analysis with purposive sampling of nine (9) participants, comprising six (6) female HoDs and six (3) male HoDs, were used to collect the requisite data. The study was underpinned by a conceptual framework, to identify and construct my views as a researcher, on the HoDs experiences of school mergers in North West province (Adom, Hussein & Agyem, 2018) as a lens for data analysis. The study findings indicated that there had been a significant change in the roles and responsibilities performed by the displaced HoDs. The HoDs had also demonstrated resistance to the school mergers as they had not been prepared for handling tensions and opposition (Pinheiro, Geschwind & Aarrevaara, 2016). It was also found that the HoDs had different understandings and interpretations of the concept of a school merger, and that the NWDoE had undermined them and had also not prepared them adequately enough for both the school merged and to cope in their new roles. The findings also indicated that the NWDoE had done very little to involve the HoDs in the entire school merger process. In addition, the findings also revealed that generally teaching and administering curriculum was a challenge for some of the expatriate HoDs due content gap in the subject areas allocated to them in their new roles. Accordingly, the study pointed out the need for retraining and workshopping the displaced HoDs, as well as placement in line with their areas of specialisation and proficiency. It was hoped that this might help them to handle the tensions they were experiencing and to decrease their opposition, diminish their resistance and, finally, assist them in performing their hugely changed roles and responsibilities in their new schools.

This thesis intends to present a detailed analysis of the merger process carried out by Hewlett Packard and Compaq under the scope of the negotiation process. It will address how the parties involved negotiated, and how internal and external negotiations unfolded at the same time. It starts with a description of the different parties involved and each interest at stake. It continues with a detailed explanation about the reasons that these two companies had to merge, the reasons why the Hewlett family opposed the merger, and how the competition was affected. After a chronology of the merger, this research ends with an analysis of the behavior of each party in the negotiation process and from that perspective, what are the lessons learned from this case.

Annotation:
The Port Elizabeth College (PE College) was founded in January 2002 as a result of the merger between the three technical colleges in Port Elizabeth, namely, Russell Road, Bethelsdorp and Iqhayiya. Similar courses are offered in duplicated facilities, contrary to the sentiment of the legislation requiring the reduction of the number of technical colleges from 152 to 50. A further problem experienced by the management of PE College is that the Russell Road campus is so full that it is necessary to turn prospective students away, while the other campuses are under-utilised. The focus of this study is the evaluation of the location and coverage offered by the six PE College sites of delivery. The study examined the physical facilities of the PE College and investigated the requirements of staff and students, regarding their campuses of choice. The objectives were achieved through site visits to the six campuses, as well as a quantitative, structured, self-administered survey of all staff and students of the PE College in October 2003. The questions used in the survey were selected only after a literature review of location theory, which highlighted the factors to be considered in location decisions. Completed questionnaires were received from 1 256 student and 120 staff respondents. The empirical study showed that 13,2% of students and 9,2% of staff wished to study or work at a different campus. Sixty-eight percent of students who wanted to change campuses preferred to be based at the Russell Road campus, which is already full. As a result, this study has led to the recommendation that the PE College should use a product-based location strategy, where each campus specialises in a different field of study. Although this location strategy will not necessarily offer the greatest accessibility to students and staff, it will result in the least amount of duplication, and, therefore, reduced costs.

Annotation:

The history of public education in America is a history of school district mergers. Population growth and improvements in transportation and communication brought isolated communities together. Financial pressures and promises of economies of scale overcame reluctance to merger. In more recent times, federal and state legislation has provided impetus for school district consolidation. The merger that formed Twin Rivers Unified School District delivers a current view of the complexity of merging school districts. The purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to examine the merger that formed Twin Rivers Unified School District (Twin Rivers). The passage of Measure B in November 2007 formed Twin Rivers by joining three elementary districts and one high school district in Northern Sacramento County California. This qualitative multiple-case study was designed to explore what worked well and what detracted from the merger process. Six board members and seven district office administrators participated in semi-structured interviews designed to examine the merger that formed Twin Rivers. The study participants all served from the election or before the establishment of the district on July 1, 2008. The findings from the study indicate a need for a review of California laws related to school district mergers, personnel, and finance. The findings also indicate a need for those involved in school district mergers to be aware of possible pitfalls and resistance.

At the time of this writing, the NYSE had just completed its historic merger with Archipelago, LLC, while changing its ownership structure to a public company. The conditions leading up to this transformation are descriptive of the overall changes in "exchange structures" and the infrastructure of equity trading in the United States and around the world. The document is written to be useful to an audience of both industry and non-industry executives. To accomplish this, we examine the historical underpinnings of exchanges, how they developed, identifying conditions that transcend structures themselves. We go on to describe the mechanics, governance, technology, and regulatory environment of exchanges today. From this we can examine the forces inducing and enabling changes in the market structures. The "investment supply chain" is introduced as a framework to understand the flow of capital in the economy and the changing position of the exchanges and industry players. We consider the anatomy of trading, evolving technologies and the experience of non-US exchanges in the process of demutualization, technology infrastructure change and business model evolution. The thesis also draws on inferences from similar economic shifts in other industries.
(cont.) The parallel industry discussion should serve as an intuition builder in understanding the forces at work, the time it may take to see an equilibrium state and the behavior of the participants. The thesis has relied heavily on interviews and perspectives of people close to these events: NYSE staff, ECNs, the buy and sell side, regulators and academics. As such, it attempts to provide an informed and balanced view of the current state of play and the momentum of events.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The study has dealt with the application of strategic management principles in South-African post-school institutions in the Western Cape, starting with a comprehensive overview of the post- school sector in the Western Cape and the motivations for the mergers. A literature study reviewed recent merger experience in commerce and education both internationally and in the South African context from which a generic merger strategy was distilled. A measuring instrument was compiled, based on the generic merger strategy and applied to post-school and higher education institutions in the Western Cape. Responses were evaluated in terms of defined hypotheses. Respondents to the study indicated that merger best practice strategy was not followed in the Western Cape, that there were no significant differences between the experiences of the Higher Education Institutions (HEls) and Further Education and Training Colleges (FETs), that HEls do not take cognisance of the external environment whilst FETs do take cognisance of the external environment relating to competition, and that a generic merger strategy is viable when used in conjunction with consultants, sharing experiences with others and following an ad hoc approach.

In recent years several municipalities in Sweden have merged their public secondary schools. This has been considered a type of initiative that intends to reduce youth segregation and discrepancies in school quality. This thesis examines in what ways the merging of all public secondary schools in a municipality affects the students’ academic performance and their choice to enroll in the publicschool sector. To do so I use municipality-level aggregate data from the Swedish National Agency for Education on 9th grade students’ academic outcomes and the share of 7th graders enrolled in the public schools. I employ a difference-in-difference approach to estimate the reduced form effect of the school mergers. The control group used in the baseline estimation includes all municipalities that had a constant number of public secondary schools during the time period of my study. I move on to use propensity score matching in order to create a more comparable control group. I then estimate a difference-in-difference regression with match-fixed effects. The results show that the mergers have a negative effect on the municipality-level average GPA. In addition, the municipalities where the mergers have been implemented experience a reduction in the share of students that pass all 9th grade subjects as well as an increase in the share of students who do not have sufficient grades to continue to upper secondary school. The school mergers caused the share of 7th graders enrolled in the publicschool sector to decrease by approximately 10 percentage points. These results indicate that the public secondary school merger is not a panacea for improving student outcomes.

Consider the case of George Peabody College for Teachers and Vanderbilt University. The two private schools sat side by side in Nashville, Tennessee. Peabody trained generations of teachers across the United States. Vanderbilt was and remains a research university. For decades, the two schools maintained a partnership or alliance, and it functioned on many levels. Students at one school easily enrolled for classes at the other and transferred credits without trouble. The two schools shared library resources between themselves and a third, religious-oriented school. Athletes on Vanderbilt sports teams earned Peabody degrees. At times, Vanderbilt rented dormitory space from Peabody to house excess students. Separated only by a city street, the schools collaborated but remained distinct. Then in the late 1970s, they announced a merger. Peabody would become part of Vanderbilt. By the early 1980s, the merger was complete. The change was wrenching for Peabody. Many faculty left or were laid off. Tuition increased to match that of Vanderbilt. Today Peabody survives only as the name of the College of Education within Vanderbilt (Dorn, 1996).

A reaction against Falk’s school policy was inevitable when a Conservative belonging to the Pomeranian landowning nobility took over the Ministry of Education in July 1879. During his first months in office, Robert von Puttkamer made several highly publicized gestures to communicate to the nation his disapproval of the school reforms and his intention to end the Kulturkampf in the school system. In September 1879 he used the occasion of a reply to a petition signed by more than 400 priests in the dioceses of Miinster and Paderborn to announce a policy of reconciliation. He declared, “I wish nothing more fervently than to be able to grant to the clergy of the Christian churches an effective role in the supervision of the elementary school.” He pleaded with the Catholic clergy “not to succumb to the mistaken notion that the policy of the state is to be hostile or indifferent to the beneficial influence of the church on the instruction and moral and religious education of the youth.” Once their resistance to the May Laws ceased, he promised to reinstate them in their former local school inspection offices. Another signal of the oncoming reaction was Puttkamer’s dramatic intervention in the school conflict in Elbing, a city in the province of East Prussia, where the municipal council decided to organize an interconfessional school system in 1875. Ignoring the objections of the Catholic minority, city officials carried out the first phase of the reform in 1876 with the opening of four interconfessional schools for girls. The Catholic parents protested this change and the forthcoming merger of the confessional schools for boys in a petition addressed to Falk in April 1877. Their petition remained unanswered, and only after they renewed their appeal in February 1879 did the minister request a report from the district governor in Danzig. The report arrived in Berlin on July 28, apparently held back until after Falk left office. The district government informed the new minister that “the Catholics in Elbing harbor a great distrust toward the interconfessional school, which the city government itself has provoked because it has constantly shown a conspicuous contempt toward all demands made on the school system from a church and confessional standpoint.”

These Notes start and end with acknowledgement of the reality of human interdependence. They relate to practitioner experience in the real economy in manufacturing, retail and distribution, and in academia, as well as practitioner experience of the financial economy, both as recipient of predatory activity and as a customer for financial “expertise” re acquisition and merger activity. Real economy roles include training, general management, strategic management and planning, human resource management, finance and accounting with responsibilities for merger and acquisition activity and business school teaching in the areas of strategic management and business ethics. Practitioner Notes provide the basis of the knowledge and understanding of how such real economy organisational systems work, whether private for-profit or public sector, and therefore how they might most effectively be coordinated and focused to contribute to progression without destruction.

Part 3 discusses the growth of basic legal rights. In the twenty-first century it can be hard to appreciate how remarkably welcoming the federal judiciary was to the claims of the civil rights movement. Part 3 includes chapter 7, “Access to Justice”; chapter 8, “Voting Rights and Political Representation”; chapter 9, “Public Accommodations”; chapter 10, “School Desegregation and Municipal Equalization”; and chapter 11, “Employment Discrimination.” Voting rights and political representation were key. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 opened the portals for dramatic increases in black voter registration. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 mandated equal accommodation in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters, and other public places. Some applications of these rights were realized immediately, others not so much. This was the era in which the promise of the Supreme Court’s school desegregation decision became a reality in the Deep South. Desegregation suits proliferated. The Supreme Court dramatically increased the pace of desegregation. The varied forms of pushback were astonishing: the shutting down of a historic black high school lest white students have to attend (even at the expense of double sessions); the hiding of athletic trophies from the historic black high school upon merger; the suspension and expulsion of many black students at the moment of desegregation. The other major accomplishment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the ban on employment discrimination. At the time of its passage, job and labor union segregation were ubiquitous in the Deep South. This all changed.

The chapter “Supporting Students Following School Crises: From the Acute Aftermath Through Recovery,” in School Mental Health Services for Adolescents, provides an overview of the strategies and interventions used in schools to mitigate the impact of school crises on adolescents. It provides a definition of school crisis, describes the impact of school crises on students and the school system, and offers a historical perspective on crisis response in schools. The chapter merges the President’s Policy Directive (PPD-8) with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to describe the universal, early intervention, and targeted interventions that schools can implement to provide a continuum of care from disaster preparedness to long-term recovery. Strategies for integrating these practices into the school community are discussed.

The introduction of digital technologies and accompanying arbitrated attitudes in formal educational contexts have for a long time been expected to trigger radical transformation in schools. Yet, these still have to materialize. The subsequent engagement of the first generation of maturing digital natives as school-leaders is in itself not a guarantee that the associated and much-anticipated change will take place. In the interim, the situation is weighed against a theoretical backdrop that merges transformational leadership qualities, work experience and embraced interpretational traits, a designated group of Maltese school-leaders manifest with respect to technology inclusion in their school. Subsequently disclosed experiences and insights were used to synthesize forward directions that current school-leaders and future educational leadership personnel may choose to adopt for the initiation and setting of today's 21st century school leaders in the anticipation of tomorrow's schools.

Increasing student understanding of engineering mechanics, interest, and readiness for engineering practice are significant concerns of engineering faculty. As a part of an attempt to address these concerns, engineering application software was integrated into a first engineering mechanics course at the sophomore level, Statics and Mechanics of Materials. The course software component is part of an educational initiative across the Mercer University School of Engineering to infuse a common software thread within the curriculum, especially relating to mechanics and design areas. Two course modules using solid modeling and finite element analysis software were included via laboratory sessions and assignments emphasizing visualization and relationships between design and analysis. Descriptions of the modules and their learning objectives as well as results of student surveys taken after each module are presented and discussed.

Aim/Purpose: [The full paper was previously published in the International Journal of Community Development & Management Studies, 1, 39-47. Available at http://ijcdms.org/Volume01/v1p063-071Fosu3785.pdf] The main aim of the study is to identify some of the barriers to the integration of technology into the teaching of mathematics in high schools. Background: Writing on chalkboards as a method of transferring knowledge is a key feature of traditional approach to teaching may have been successful in the past, but the minds of the current generation vary from those of the previous generation. Today’s students are immersed in technology. They are much more up-to-date on the latest technology and gadgets. Technology has certainly changed how students access and integrate information, so it plausible that technology has also changed the way students thinks. Growing up with cutting-edge technologies has left them thinking differently than students of past generations. This call for new innovative approaches to teaching that will cater to the students of today. Of course it is not wise to discard the traditional way of teaching that the past teachers have painstakingly created because of its past and some current success. This is why it is recommended to use this approach as a base for the new ones. Thus, if there is a way to transfer the advantages of this approach of teaching to new innovative approach then teachers should do everything in their power to merge the past and the present into one innovative teaching approach. Methodology: Purposeful sampling was used to survey a total of 116 high school mathematics teachers in the former Transkei Homelands. But only 97 questionnaires were deemed usable because of the way they have answered the questions. Microsoft excel was used in the descriptive statistics Contribution: To identify some barriers that need to be addressed by stakeholders, policy makers in high school education so that high school mathematics teachers will be able to integrate technology into their classroom teaching to meet today students’ learning needs. Findings: The results indicated that the participating teachers need to be trained and supported in the use of the new technologies applicable to teaching mathematics. Recommendations for Practitioners: The Eastern Cape department of education needs to consider the lacked of technology training as a barrier to the integration of technology into the teaching of mathematics and take necessary steps to address it. Recommendation for Researchers: There is the need to explore in depth whether the factors of gender and age also act as barriers. Impact on Society: The research will assist stakeholders, policy makers of high school education to identify the needs of mathematics teachers. That is to say, the skill sets, experience and expertise, as well as teaching equipment and classroom design and environment required by mathematics teachers. Future Research: More work needs to be done to check whether gender, age of the teachers have some effects on their attitude towards technology integration as well as evaluate the role played by choice of teaching methodology and teaching objectives.

In recent years, with more and more faculties and students in school, the university has seen a growing demand for access to a variety of learning spaces. The White Memorial Chemistry Library and the Engineering and Physics Library (EPSL) merged to form the STEM library. Besides, STEM students do not have enough quiet and comfortable space to study. There is no doubt that an undisturbed and comfortable learning environment can improve students' concentration and study efficiency. Especially for STEM students, there is an urgent need for a quiet and comfortable learning environment. To solve the problem, this article provides a solution which creates a quiet and comfortable learning environment by soundproofing walls and converting group study rooms into individual study rooms without potential disturb, the method enables staffs and students to eliminate the interference and focus on their work in the library.

Aim/Purpose: This paper focuses on student newspapers in the midst of digital transfor-mation and the impact this has on their future survival. Background: The ramification of digital transformation on commercial newspapers is not new, but looking at it from a big picture helped to us to connect to what has been happening with student newspapers across the United States. Methodology: Through a limited review of selected student newspapers across the country, this paper attempted to identify key challenges, trends, and best practices to determine the current as well as future state of this media model. Contribution: The knowledge gained was then used to inform a transition of a specific stu-dent newspaper to cope with its own challenges and to share this condition with other schools around the nation. Findings: Due to the digital transformation, the traditional student newspapers have been disrupted and are going through the transition into digital platforms similar to those in the commercial newspapers. Yet, the value of the content is still important. Recommendations for Practitioners: Rapidly advanced technology transform student newspapers into a real-time, highly customized, personal, rich with multimedia format. This means the newspapers must be able to reach where their readers are and deliver what their readers ask for. Recommendation for Researchers: The transition of newspapers to be more digitized calls for more studies on the rise of new generation of readership, the relentless changes in technology, the search for a sustainable revenue model for e-newspaper, as well as issues in self-generated journalism. Impact on Society: As more people gain access to portable digital devices, the desire for hard copy newspapers that report yesterday’s news is rapidly decreasing. In today’s world, the news is instantaneous and the lag time between the event and it being reported is sometimes mere seconds. Future Research: Research on “fake news” is important as newspapers become more digitalized.
