The emergence of blends of synthetic cannabinoids (SC) is an alarming public health concern in Jordan and worldwide. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and perceptions of university students of SC. A cross-sectional study employing a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from 1,789 university students in Jordan. The questionnaire measured the knowledge and perceptions of students of SC. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to investigate the potential predictors of good knowledge of SC. Perceptions of students regarding SC use, prevalence and availability were investigated using principal component analysis. Self-reported familiarity with SC was high (92.5%), while good knowledge was only demonstrated by (33.6%) of students. Predictors of good knowledge included being a smoker (aOR = 1.369, 95% Cl = 11.041–1.871, p = .026), an alcohol user (aOR = 2.134, 95% CI = 1.362–3.346, p = .001), being informed by traditional media (aOR = 1.367, 95% CI = 11.113–1.679, p = .003), social media (aOR = 1.241, 95% CI = 1.161–1.403, p = .021) and self-familiarity with SC (aOR = 2.499, 95% CI = 1.518–4.114, p < .0001). Students perceived SC use to be prevalent and ethically unacceptable, for religious, social, and legal reasons. There were significant differences in the ethical perceptions against the use of SC detected by gender (p < .0001), smoking (p < .0001) or alcohol use (p = .001), and being informed by both traditional media (p-.001) and social media (p = .001), but there were no differences by the level of knowledge (p = .057). Those of good knowledge and those of low knowledge did not differ on their ethical perceptions of using SC. This study showed that there was a low level of knowledge regarding SC among university students in Jordan, which may play a role in the use of SC in the country. Herein, many opportunities exist for public health education to raise awareness against SC use.

This study aimed at finding the effect of self control (SC) on deviant behavior (DB) of Students. The approach of the study was quantitative. Causal comparative research design was used to investigate the effect of self control on students’ deviance. Students (8940) of grade 9th and 10th of all public schools of Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) constituted the population of this study. Data were collected from 470 students of Mirpur, AJK. Out of them there were 291 males and 179 were females. Two scales, SC Scale originally developed by Grasmick et al., (1993) and Normative Deviance Scale by Vazsonyi et al., (2001) were adapted to measure the SC and DB of the students respectively. Descriptive statistics, t-test and linear regression were applied to analyze the data. Results of the study found a low level of SC and high level of DB among the secondary school students. Female were more SC led as compared to the males whereas male showed more DB than females. Regression analysis showed that SC has significant positive effect on the DB and it brings 49.8% variability in the DB of the secondary school students. It was recommended that SC related activities should be added into the curriculum at primary level as this is the best age for the development of SC into the students. Workshops and seminars should be held at Secondary Schools to bring awareness on the benefits of SC for the teachers and students.

This study investigates the effects of using scientific approach-based learning tools on students' scientific creativity (SC) and cognitive learning outcomes (CLO). This study employed a one-group pretest-posttest design that involved 70 students of Maduran Junior High School Lamongan. Students' SC and CLO were collected by using fifteen essay tests and analyzed descriptively and statistically. The result shows that (1) the proportion of lesson plan (RPP) implementation was highly excellent, (2) students’ responses were quite strong to the learning activities, and (3) students' SC and CLO improved moderately. Statistically, students’ SC and CLO stated significantly different after treatment (p < 0.05) and positively correlate (Sig. > 0.7). Based on the study findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the scientific approach significantly affects students’ SC and CLO.

This study aims to describe students’ mathematical problem-solving ability of Junior High School in terms of students’ self-efficacy (SE) and self-confidence (SC). This typr of research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in class VIII at one of Junior High Schools in Jakarta. Subjects in this research based on the result of questionnaire selected 3 students who had SE and SC from high, medium and low. The research’s instruments are SE and SC questionnaires, mathematical problem-solving ability tests, and interviews.The test and non-test instruments were validated by expert validators before being tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis techniques uses the Miles and Huberman model for data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Triangulation techniques was used to test the validity of the research data. The results of this research indicate that students with high SE and SC had the best mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to students with medium to low SE and SC. Students with high SE and SC fulfill 4 indicators of problem-solving ability with maximum scores. Students with medium to low SE and SC only met 3 indicators of problem-solving ability.

Academic motivation consists of reward-based extrinsic motivation and curiosity-based intrinsic motivation. Students studying at university or college develop several new social connections with friends, classmates, and teachers, in addition to their family and community. Belonging to their networks, students acquire opinions, appreciation, trust, and norms of the society. Whether those social connections enhance the motivation of university students for academic work is a question yet to be answered in the context of health profession education in Japan. Judo-therapist education is a form of health profession education in Japan. This study aimed to measure the academic motivation and social capital (SC) of judo-therapist students in Japan, and to find the relation between social capital and academic motivation. This cross-sectional study recruited a total of 2247 students applying multi-stage sampling across Japan. A Japanese version Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) measured the learning motivation in three constructs: (1) intrinsic motivation (IM); (2) extrinsic motivation (EM); and (3) amotivation (alpha 0.94). A newly-developed 46-itemed, 4-pointed scale measured social capital (SC) in five constructs: (1) family relations, (2) on-campus friends, (3) off-campus friends, (4) classroom social capital; and (5) regional social capital (alpha 0.85). Robust regression analysis treated all constructs of SC as independent variables and IM and EM as dependent variables respectively in the three models. Among the average level of constructs, the family SC average level was the highest. Classroom SC was less than family SC and community SC was the lowest. Intrinsic motivation is positively influenced by classroom SC the most, followed by family SC, on-campus friends’ SC, and community SC. Extrinsic motivation is positively influenced by classroom SC the most, followed by family SC, on-campus friends’ SC, and community SC. Amotivation is negatively influenced by social capital constructs except external friends’ SC. In conclusion, social connections have the power to enhance the motivation of university students’ academic work within health profession education. The relations, trust and bonds developed in the classroom may allow an adult learner’s motivation to evolve into autonomous intrinsic motivation and prevent amotivation.

The university culture is a combination of SC philosophy and action, which reveals that Chinese universities in the post-epidemic era need to realize a cultural transformation based on SC, and the concept of SC ultimately needs to be implemented into undergraduate learning-centeredness. Introduction: Pharmacology is one of the basic science subjects included in graduate nursing programs (B. Sc Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing) under Tribhuvan University. Both these programs are being run at our institute. This article describes the evaluation of pharmacology course and teaching methodology at our institute by B. Sc Nursing (B. Sc) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BNS) students and also compares students’ views between these two nursing programs to facilitate pedagogical learning. Methods: At the end of the course of 2071-2072 BS academic year of first year nursing students of B. Sc and BNS programs, a structured teaching evaluation questionnaire was designed to obtain students’ view on pharmacology curriculum and lectures. Yates corrected Chi square test was applied whenever necessary and p value considered significant at less than or equal to 0.05.Results: Only 37% B. Sc and 60% BNS students responded that the lecture content was in accordance with the curriculum. Only 52% BNS and 97% B. Sc students found the course content to be relevant and useful. 68% BNS students responded that they have felt a lot improvement in their understanding of pharmacology subject as compared to just 23% of B. Sc students. Majority of the students preferred the LCD mode of presentation.Conclusion: There were minor differences found between opinions of two sets of students. Major need for improvement areas suggested in curriculum were course content not being clear and the objectives being ill defined. Similarly, in relation to facilitator, they have recommended to improve voice clarity.

Musical education hinges on students’ mastery motivation and self-concept, which are crucial for effective musical learning. Despite the acknowledgement of their individual importance, the relationship between these factors within music education remains unexplored. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the dynamics of mastery motivation (MM) and its relationship with self-concept (SC) in the context of music education. A survey was administered to 139 Hungarian grade 7 students, employing a musical MM questionnaire, a musical SC inquiry, and the collection of demographic information collection. We employed descriptive statistics (IBM SPSS 23), a Rasch analysis (WINSTEPS), and correlational and regression analyses (R programming and SmartPLS4) for data analysis. The findings demonstrated that the utilized instruments were reliable and valid in measuring students’ MM and SC in music education. This study revealed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.778) between students’ MM and SC, with moderate to strong inter-relationships among various subfactors. Furthermore, comparisons unveiled significant disparities in musical MM across school levels, with higher MM and SC observed among female students. Furthermore, gender, a musical family background, and awareness of musical lesson usefulness were predictive factors for both students’ MM and SC within music education. This study provides valuable insights for professionals and policy makers to enhance music education, nurturing students’ musical growth effectively. By understanding the relationship between MM and SC and considering predictive factors, stakeholders can develop strategies that optimize the impact of music education on students’ musical development.

The present study examined the relationship between self-compassion (SC) and emotional well-being in college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical framework for the study was that SC, defined as an understanding and caring response to one’s suffering and limitations, may serve as a protective factor against negative mental health outcomes. A sample of college students (N = 101) completed self-report measures of SC, depression, anxiety, stress, life satisfaction and subjective happiness. Data were analysed using regression analysis to examine the prediction of emotional well-being variables by SC and moderation analysis to examine the moderating effect of SC on the relationships between emotional well-being variables. The study’s results confirmed the hypothesis that SC would predict emotional well-being. SC significantly predicted all variables examined, including depression, anxiety, stress, life satisfaction (LS) and subjective happiness (SH). However, SC did not moderate the relationships between these variables. Isolation significantly moderated the relationship between SH and depression among college students. These findings support the idea that SC may serve as a protective factor against negative mental health outcomes and suggest that interventions aimed at increasing SC may improve mental health and overall well-being in college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research is needed to understand these relationships’ mechanisms and the factors that may influence them.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between physical exercise (PE) and mobile phone dependence (MPD) in Chinese university students and verify the potential role of self-control (SC) in mediating the decrease of MPD by PE. Through the quota sampling, 608 students that complied with the requirements were surveyed from 10 universities in China. PE, MPD, and SC were assessed using standard scales. For data analysis, t-tests, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression, and regression analysis were carried out in turn. The results showed significant gender differences in PE, MPD, and SC. For male students, the level of PE and score of SC were higher than those in females, yet the MPD score was lower. PE and SC were negatively related to MPD (r = −0.124, p < 0.01; r = −0.563, p < 0.001), so both could remarkably predict MPD (β = −1.00, p < 0.05; β = −0.552, p < 0.001). Gender was also a significant predictor for MPD (β = 0.089, p < 0.05). PE could, to some extent, decrease MPD, in which SC played a significant mediating role—its mediating effect accounted for nearly 71% of the total effect. The present study shows that PE is negatively correlated with MPD, and SC mediates the decrease of MPD by PE for university students in China. This indicates that the improvement of SC by PE could be a highly trustworthy and practicable way to effectively address the issue of MPD in university students or other young people across the world.

Objectives: We examined the association between school connectedness (SC) and e-cigarette susceptibility/ ever use in a diverse sample of Texas 6th graders, with a secondary aim to explore the association stratified by gender and classroom setting (in-person vs remote). Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted of CATCH My Breath baseline data, representing 985 6th -graders from 21 public schools. SC was based on National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health measures; e-cigarette susceptibility/ever use was based on the FDA's definition of "at-risk" for long-term use. We conducted multi-level logistic regression analyses.Results: Over half the sample was Hispanic (57.6%), with 36.2% reporting susceptibility/ever use. Lower SC was associated with increased odds of e-cigarette susceptibility/ever use (low SC: aOR: 5.17, 95% CI: 3.54, 7.55; medium SC: aOR: 2.15, 95% CI: 1.44, 2.91; high SC= referent). The association held across gender groups, with low SC girls reporting the highest odds of susceptibility/ever use (aOR: 7.83, 95% CI: 4.51, 13.61). Low SC in- person and remote students were 6 and 4 times, respectively, more likely to report susceptibility/ever use as high SC students (p<.05). Conclusion: SC protected against e-cigarette susceptibility/ever use in this sample.

Objective: Sense of coherence (SOC) is a concept that helps to explain the relation between personal intentionality as psychosocial factors and health-related behaviors. Thus, it is essential to enhance SOC when encouraging a healthy lifestyle. However, the factors that promote SOC have not been fully investigated among university students. The objective of this study was to clarify the general resistance resources (GRRs) that may promote the development of the SOC among university students. Therefore, we examined the relationship between SOC and social capital (SC), self-efficacy, and mental health. Methods: Participants included 443 students from nine academic departments at eight universities in the Kanto or Kinki metropolitan areas of Japan. Participants completed an anonymous questionnaire. Individual-level cognitive and structural SC, generalized self-efficacy, mental health inventory (from SF-36v2), and SOC were measured. Confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling was conducted to verify the factor structure of the SOC-13 scale. Stepwise multiple regression analysis and two-way layout analysis of variance were performed with SOC as the dependent variable. Results: The factor structure of SOC indicated the optimal model fit in the second-order three-factor model of the 12 items. SOC was predicted by five variables: age, cognitive SC, structural SC, mental health, and self-efficacy. For students from urban areas, SOC was predicted by the interaction between cognitive and structural SC. Conclusion: SOC was significantly related to cognitive SC, structural SC, and self-efficacy as well as mental health in university students from urban areas. Furthermore, the combination of higher-level cognitive SC and higher-level structural SC exerted an inhibitory influence on SOC among students who previously and currently live in urban areas. Therefore, the findings indicated that both cognitive and structural SC as well as self-efficacy may act as GRRs that promote the development of SOC, and similarly, good mental health may promote a strong SOC.

As a reflection of the culture and norms of the school community, the school climate (SC) is a potential factor connected to students’ major behavior problems (BP). Parental involvement (PI) is considered as an essential factor for SC, contributing to promote good students’ educational results, as well as better social functioning. The present study aimed to analyze the mediating effect of PI on the relationship between SC and BP, taking into consideration the school personnel perceptions. A total of 329 school personnel (teachers versus no teachers) aged between 29 and 66 (M = 50.78, SD = 7.56), mainly female (79%), were integrated in the sample. Based on the perception of the school personnel, the results indicate moderate level of PI and SC, as well as the existence of different BP in the school context. The mediating effect of PI in the relationship between the SC and BP has been demonstrated. These results suggest that, if the SC and PI are improved, it could be an effective strategy to enhance the social functioning of students in the school context. This study thus contributes to a comprehensive empirical analysis of how PI can improve the relationship between the SC and the BP of Portuguese students.

The paper aims to explore how future practitioners in helping professions grasp the wider societal problems and represent their professional practice in terms of social progress. The inquiry illustrates the perspectives of students by triangulation between their understanding of main societal issues in Latvia in the context of national planning documents (NPDs), social capital (SC), and expectations about their future work. Data of 34 first-year graduate students were collected using the open questionnaire and analyzed employing inductive and deductive thematic analysis. The largest group of societal issues contained the socio-psychological problems followed by economic challenges. Only half of the answers concerning SC were in tune with the theoretical conceptualization of this term. The students’ views on societal issues and SC did not align well with the NPDs. The mentioned socio-psychological problems contained the issues of relationship and value aspects of SC, omitting the social networks. One-third of answers in terms of professional expectations were related to the development of SC, other answers focused on the demands of external entities, and the students’ features. The views of graduate students can become an important signpost for the development of graduate programs in times of global interest in core competencies for helping professions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to draw attention towards sustainability consciousness (SC) of pre-service teachers (student teachers) as their role is central in teaching for sustainable development. This paper investigated SC of the pre-service teachers in Pakistan and compared it with other undergraduate students in the country and with that of Swedish upper secondary students. Design/methodology/approach The paper used survey method using a tool developed by a group of Canadian researchers to measure knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards sustainable development. The instrument was later adapted by a group of Swedish researchers to measure SC. Study data came from 207 pre-service teachers and 154 undergraduate students studying humanities. Findings The paper reports that SC of the pre-service teachers in Pakistan is much lower than that of Swedish upper secondary students. Moreover, the paper indicates that the SC of pre-service teachers is not different from other undergraduate students in the country. Practical implications This paper establishes a baseline of SC of the final-year pre-service teachers enrolled in BEd (Honours) programme in Pakistan. Such a study is critical in the context when ESD is a missing element in teacher education in Pakistan. In the presence of such a baseline study, teacher education institutes and departments might review their curricula in terms of their focus on ESD and plan for initiatives to educate pre-service teachers for sustainability. Originality/value The paper contributes to a broader debate on measuring SC of university students.

This research aims to determine whether Problem-Based Learning (PBL) helps in fostering scientific creativity among fifth graders. Students’ scientific creativity (SC) was investigated in the product dimensions of (a) solving scientific problems, (b) understanding scientific phenomena, (c) advancement in scientific knowledge, and (d) improvisation skills with a technical product. A pre-test and post-test single group experimental design was employed. Pre-test measures on SC were administered to 232 fifth graders. Students participated in PBL hands-on activities that required solving open-ended problems. After these were completed, post-test measures on SC were assessed. Students' reactions to the PBL experience were also recorded. The results of paired sample t-tests showed significant differences in all product dimensions of SC, except in the understanding of scientific phenomena. Further analysis found significant differences among the creativity traits of fluency, flexibility and originality in each product dimension of SC, except in the originality in the advances of scientific knowledge. Students felt that the PBL activities were easy, fun, and interesting as well as a practical way of gaining and advancing science knowledge. Students also found their participation in sharing ideas in cooperative learning groups inspired them to be more creative. This research suggests that the PBL activities have a positive impact in fostering student’s SC in science lessons. This type of research was a quasi-experimental. The population of this research was all students in SMA Negeri 6 Medan. Then 33 students were chosen as the experimental class and 33 students in other class was chosen as a control class by using purposive sampling technique. The data in this study were analyzed using Two Ways ANOVA. The result of validity of student’s MPS test is 0,808. Both reability of test was 0.86. The result of this research were: (1) The enhancement of student’s MPS ability and SC using problem-based learning was higher than conventional learning; (2) There is no interaction between student’s PMK and learning on student’s MPS ability and SC.

Mathematics classrooms have a long history of what has been termed ‘unidimensional' character: a proclivity for student practice routines and teachers as experts and keepers of knowledge. This study investigates affordances of student-created digital learning objects (SC-DLOs) as transformative, design-for-learning practices in the hands of students. Historical distinctions are drawn between digital learning objects (DLOs) and digital learning artefacts (DLAs) primarily for teacher assessment of student learning. SC-DLOs are conceived as students' design for learning for the peer learning community. Hence, SC-DLOs have additional and different learning potential that aligns with 21st century skill development. A corpus of mathematics SC-DLOs (n=155) were analysed from learner blogs (Year 7-8) in a 1:1 digital initiative in New Zealand. A mixed-methods approach was used to investigate features of students' multimodal design for learning. A framework of implications informs and problematises understandings of transformative digital creation by students in mathematics.

Mathematics is required from primary (basic) through junior secondary and senior secondary levels of education in Nigeria. The position of mathematics within the curriculum is reflective of the significance of the subject to the expansion of scientific knowledge and technological capability. However, student performance in mathematics, particularly algebraic aspects, is a challenge for Nigerian secondary school students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-concept (SC), emotional intelligence (EI), and problem-solving skills (PSS) on students’ attitudes towards solving algebraic problems (ATSAP). The study aimed at developing a model based on students’ SC, EI, PSS, and ATSAP. A total of 377 students were proportionately and randomly selected to collect the quantitative data. Two instruments: (i) a questionnaire measuring SC, EI, and ATSAP, and (ii) a test measuring PSS developed by the researcher, were used in this study. The data was analyzed by using structural equation modelling (SEM) and partial least square (SEM-PLS3). The major findings of the study revealed that secondary school students’ PSS could be improved with due consideration of their SC and EI. However, the three hypotheses tested indicated that there was a significant but negative relationship between SC and the students’ ATSAP (t > ±1.96, α = 0.05) and also there was a significant positive relationship between PSS and their ATSAP; however, the relationship between EI and their ATSAP was not significant (t < ±1.96, α = 0.05). Therefore, a model was developed based on the study’s findings. This model has a practical implication for the federal and state governments, curriculum planners, students, teachers, and parents.

This study examined the structure of self-concept (SC) and the internal/external (I/E) frame of reference model for elementary (n = 276) and junior high (n = 293) students in the United Arab Emirates. The results provided support for the multifaceted interpretation for both groups of students. However, the study provided stronger support for the hierarchical structure with junior high than with elementary students' data. Higher-order confirmatory factor analysis (HCFA) of each group revealed that the second-order factor model was the best fitting model. The pattern of correlations indicated that SC in various areas becomes more differentiated with age. Self-concept dimensions were more distinct for junior high students than for elementary students. SDQ-I subscales were more reliable with junior high students (range: .72-.94) than with elementary students (range: .74-.90). The study provided partial support to the propositions of the I/E frame of reference model for both groups of students. MANOVA revealed that elementary students demonstrated significantly higher mean scores than did junior high students on two of the seven SC subscales (math and school SCs).

Compression stockings (CSs) are a relatively simple and effective tool for alleviating varicose veins and are often used as a preventive measure among workers whose jobs require prolonged standing. Nevertheless, the efficacy of CSs that are advertised as sleepwear remains unverified. This study recruited 10 female university students and 10 cashiers as participants to test the effects of sleep CSs. During the experiment, the changes in shank circumference (SC) and the subjective discomfort rating upon getting up and going to bed were collected. Data were recorded immediately after getting up and SC measurement was repeated 10 min later. The results demonstrated that both CS condition and measurement time significantly affected SC reduction, whereas cashier or student status did not. The reported discomfort and tightness of the legs attributed to CSs were relatively high, and the benefit toward SC reduction was minimal. Cashiers exhibited slightly larger SC values and higher perceived discomfort levels, which may be attributed to their occupational characteristic of prolonged standing, and the cumulative effect of prolonged standing on muscle properties warrants further study. The study findings suggest that wearing CSs for sleep may not be effective for reducing OE

This study examined student access to school counselors and the link between school counselor-to-student (SC-S) ratios and student outcomes in six states in the United States. Access to school counselors was often greater for White students, but less for Asian students, English learners, or those in larger schools. In the two states with the lowest SC-S ratios among the states studied, schools with more counselors per student (a) had higher English SAT scores and more students with postsecondary enrollment (i.e., New Hampshire), and (b) had more students enrolled in postsecondary studies (i.e., Maine). In the two states with the highest SC-S ratios of the six studied, schools with more counselors per student (a) had lower overall learning outcomes and graduation rates (i.e., Arizona), and (b) had worse academic outcomes in English, math, or science (i.e., Idaho). Schools with higher SC-S ratios showed more suspensions (i.e., New Hampshire) and more chronic absenteeism (i.e., Arizona, Missouri, and Rhode Island). We discuss implications for legislative advocacy, intentional school counselor caseload assignments, and future research.

Background: Several factors contribute to a student's academic performance. Studies have examined the direct impact of student-related factors and the broader influence of social and economic factors. Objective: To identify the important factors influencing the academic performance of Master's level students at the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University (TU). Materials and Methods: Primary data of 251 master’s level students was collected with a questionnaire adapted and developed from similar studies. The data was collected using convenience sampling. In addition to demographic and categorical questions, five-point Likert scale questions were also used. Data analysis involved fitting a multiple linear regression (MLR) with the identified significant independent variables. The goodness of fit of the model was evaluated to assess the accuracy and reliability of the final model in explaining variations in students' SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average). Results: The study revealed that students' motivation, study habits, and communication skills significantly influenced their SGPA. Study habits showed a coefficient of 0.118 (p < 0.001), indicating a positive and significant relationship with SGPA. Student motivation had a coefficient of 0.19 (p < 0.001). Similarly, Higher levels of motivation were linked to improved SGPA outcomes. Communication skills exhibited a coefficient of 0.086 (p < 0.001) at a 5% level of significance. All these factors had a positive coefficient which means students better on these factors on an average will tend to have better academic performance. Conclusion: Study habits, motivation, and communication skills were found to have a significant effect on students’ SGPA. Therefore, we can conclude that at the master's level in IoST, TU, the primary determinants of students' SGPA are their characteristics such as their motivation, study habits, and communication skills.

Background: The Script Concordance (SC) approach was used as an alternative test format to measure the presence of knowledge organization reflective in one’s clinical reasoning skills (i.e., diagnostic, investigation and treatment knowledge).Methods: The present study investigated the reliability and validity of a 40-item paediatric version of the SC test with three groups representing 53 medical students (novices), 42 paediatric residents (intermediates) and 11 paediatricians (experts).Results: A comparison between scoring techniques based on experts’ ratings of the items showed internal reliability coefficients from .74 for the one-best answer up to .78 for alternative scoring techniques. An ANOVA showed an increase in test performance from medical students through to expert paediatricians (F(2,103) = 84.05, p < .001), but did not differentiate between the postgraduate year 1 to 3 paediatric residents. A large effect size (Cohen’s d) difference of 1.06 was found between medical students and residents total SC test scores.Conclusions: These results support other findings indicating the SC test format can be used to differentiate between the clinical reasoning skills of novices, intermediates and experts in paediatrics. An alternative scoring method that includes one best answer and partial marks was also supported for grading SC test items.

The researcher used the descriptive approach with the survey methods and correlations, and the research community included from some faculties of physical education and sports sciences, and the research community identified students for some faculties of physical education and sports sciences in the Kurdistan Region for the year (2018-2019), with a total of (253) students from (3) faculties In the Kurdistan Region, they were chosen by random method, which is the lottery method, and the colleges are (Soran, Salah al-Din, Koya), and the female students were excluded from the induction sample, numbering (55) students, and to include the research sample (198) students, from whom the research procedures will be implemented as a construction and application sample. (10) students were excluded for participating in the pilot experiment. The researcher built the two research scales according to the procedures followed in constructing the scales, and the injury anxiety scale consisted of (22) items and the level of ambition scale (40) items. Percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson's simple correlation coefficient, statistical analysis, Spearman-Brown equation, standard error of the scale, hypothetical mean). The researcher used the computer according to the (SPSS) system to analyze the data in the current research. The researcher reached the following conclusions: It was reached to build a scale of infection anxiety from the Corona virus (covid 19). The ambition scale was built for students of the faculties of physical education and sports sciences in the Kurdistan Region. 3. The level of anxiety about infection with the Corona virus for students of the faculties of physical education and sports sciences in the Kurdistan Region was high compared to the hypothetical average of the scale.

The researcher used the descriptive approach in the style of correlative studies, the research community was identified from the university students who numbered (247) representing some universities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (Karmian, Salah al-Din, Sulaymaniyah, Koya, Halabja), distributed over (5) colleges. (160) students by random method and by lottery method as a construction sample and identify (20) exploratory samples and (50) students as a sample for application. After presenting, analyzing and discussing the findings of the researcher, several conclusions were reached: In light of the objectives of the research and the hypothesis and limits of the research sample, the method used and based on what the results of the statistical analysis in this study indicated, the researcher concluded from the following: The effectiveness of the psychological reassurance scale that the researcher built during the scientific research procedures, which indicated the ability of the scale in measuring psychological reassurance among students of some faculties of physical education and sports sciences in the Kurdistan Region. Using hierarchical multiple regression analyses, we investigated school connectedness (SC) as a moderator between social skills (SS) and emotional/behavioral difficulties (ED/BD) among 319 urban middle school students (Grades 6–8; 65% self-identified as Black). SS levels predicted ED/BD. SC moderated the association between SS and mental health concerns. We address implications for school counseling practice.

Background and Objective. The Moore Index of Nutrition Self-Care (MIN-SC) questionnaire has been used widely in both English and Spanish languages. The purpose of this study is to convert MIN-SC into the Arabic language and to test the translated tool for validity and reliability among adolescents in Saudi Arabia. Method. The psychometric characteristics of MIN-SC were assessed using college freshman students at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The validity and reliability were examined using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The construct validity was examined through principal component analysis. Results. The MIN-SC instrument was shown to be internally consistent with reliable scoring (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.910). Exploratory factor analysis resulted in 42 items loading on three main components: estimative, production, and transitional, with a factor loading of eigenvalues >2. The final model explained 38% of the variance. Conclusion. The Arabic version of MIN-SC was shown to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing attitude toward nutrition among adolescent students.

The education sector is transforming from e-learning to m-learning due to its motivation capabilities that drive students toward self-motivated learning. However, this requires online participation through quality knowledge sharing (KS) of the social capital (SC) of resources. Past-reported low student participation calls for confirming whether social capital affects KS in m-learning. Scholars assessed this effect—however, not in the education sector—and revealed scant clarification of whether m-learning regulates SC through KS. Hence, this is the motivated aim reflected through a conceptual framework, that is, tested using multiple-regression analysis after collecting data from 334 Ahlia University undergraduate business students. The results confirm that m-learning moderates students’ SC through KS in e-/m-learning on Moodle. Implications for theory, practice, and society are revealed in this article.

This study aimed to construct a causal relationship model of factors influencing communication arts students&rsquo; qualification for sustainability communication (SC), examine the goodness-of-fit model with empirical data, and analyze the effect size of the causal relationship model in terms of influencing factors. Data were collected from 400 communication arts students using a set of questionnaires rated on a five-point scale. The results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 and LISREL version 8.80 to determine the causal relationship model. The findings revealed that the construct of the causal relationship model of factors influencing SC of these students comprised four latent variables measured from 12 observed variables. Moreover, the influencing factors were consistent with the empirical data at a good level considering the accordance index, which consisted of x2 = 13.153, df = 25, p-Value = 0.974, RMSEA = 0.000, Standardized RMR = 0.006, GFI = 0.996, and AGFI = 0.979. The causal relationship model of the factors affecting SC revealed that education sustainable development could have direct, indirect, and total effects; the knowledge-based journalist concept could have direct, indirect, and total effects; and communication art principles could have direct and total effects, respectively.

The results were that the most important social motives are the assertion that the personality is able to modify the attitudes and behaviors of students, followed by the motive of achieving a better social position, while the most important professional motive is increasing the chances of obtaining external work, followed by the multiplicity and diversity of job opportunities for graduates of physical education and sports sciences. The researcher recommended the necessity of investing students' motives and directing them in the light of those motives in academic and vocational preparation, as well as adopting these measurements in identifying students' attitudes towards studying in physical education and sports sciences.

Background. Te relevance of studying the youth safety culture (SC) in various spheres of life is due to a signifcant change in the structure of risks coming along with the development of Internet and digital technologies. Objective. Te empirical study had its purpose to reveal the intrapersonal and subjective determinants of the youth SC taking into consideration its gender specifcity, as well as to describe the types of youth SC as per the attitude to diferent safety components. Sample. Te study involved 1469 university students (545 boys, 924 girls, mean age 20.34 years). Methods. Te study implemented the standardized questionnaires TIPI-RU, BriefCope, PIL, RFQ, assessments of self-confrmation patterns as well as ad hoc developed technique for evaluating the youth SC and its components (public, personal, fnancial, and data security). Data analysis was carried out using multivariate statistical methods (ANOVA (Analysis of Variance), factor analysis, cluster analysis, correlation analysis), Student’s t-test and Fisher’s F-test. Results of the study revealed certain gender diferences in the youth SC: young women have a signifcantly higher indicator of personal safety, while young men dominate in all other components and the integral indicator of SC. Cluster analysis allowed for identifying 4 types of SC according to the rates of diferent SC components. Te revealed types of SC difer in the personality characteristics, meaningfulness of life, preferred coping strategies, focus of regulation, and self-confrmation patterns. Conclusion. It was established that youth security culture is more a consequence of comprehension (as well as learning) than a personality conditioned phenomenon. Te study substantiated the expediency of individually oriented proactive approach to the formation of the students’ SC.

During the great life-altering challenges brought by Coronavirus 2019, school closures and lack of access to exercise and social interactions may have increased students’ negative emotions. The current research acts as a follow-up study to the development of the EXSEM-SC, using the Repeated Measures Panel Analysis Framework (RMPAF) to examine the stability of the model in revealing the relationship between physical activity, self-compassion, and mental well-being among Hong Kong adolescents. It is also aimed at examining the changes in physical activity, self-compassion, and mental well-being among Hong Kong adolescents between, before, and after the peak of COVID-19 using the EXSEM-SC Model. The RMPAF has involved 572 (60% Female, Mage = 13.63, SD =1.31) Hong Kong secondary school students. Furthermore, using the abductive qualitative approach, a total of 25 (Mage = 14.84, SD = 1.40) students were involved in the in-depth interviews to further investigate the relationships within the EXSEM-SC. The quantitative results showed that the relationship between physical activity and self-compassion could be demonstrated by the EXSEM-SC, with a satisfactory goodness-of-fit index in the SEMs, as well as satisfying model construct consistency. Moreover, it showed no significant differences in the level of physical activity, self-compassion, and mental well-being during and after the peak of COVID-19. The qualitative results demonstrated two new categories within the EXSEM-SC variables, which are personality traits and injuries experiences. With the stability of the EXSEM-SC model among adolescents, it is expected that the physical activity intervention, which is based on the EXSEM-SC model, could also aim at easing Hong Kong adolescent’s mental health issues. In addition, in terms of generating a long-term impact among students, the physical activity and self-compassionate intervention should be promoted among schools. However, the quantitative properties of the two new categories in the qualitative outcomes should be involved in future investigation.

Single best answers (single choice, SC) are the classical tools used in medical examinations on all levels of education. In contrast, very short answer (VSA) probably requires sound prior knowledge and deeper learning than SC, and VSA should make cueing and guessing impossible. Hence, in a basic pharmacology course, we wanted to compare the SC and VSA formats directly at the end of the course and one year later. Medical students (n = 211) were given a formative online test. Two groups were randomly formed (A and B). Participants in group A were first given fifteen single choices (one out of five) pharmacology questions and thereafter fifteen very short answer questions (open question which were to be answered online and semiautomatically assessed). Very similar questions with regard to learning objectives but in opposite order were given to group B. After one year, about half of students from group A were again given the very same questions (AA) or the opposite questions (AB). Likewise, group B was again tested with the opposite questions (BA) or the same (BB). The SC questions in groups A, AA, AB, B, BA, and BB were in sum easier to answer than the corresponding VSA questions. Repeating the test after one year with the same students increased retention of right answers by about 1.5 points. In summary, direct comparison questions in the VSA format are more difficult for our students to answer than questions in the SC format, conceivably because cueing and guessing are eliminated. Knowledge retention is present by repeating the very same examination format online. Retention of knowledge is higher when starting with VSA (group B) both for a subsequent SC format or a VSA format. These data would argue for more use of the VSA format at least in pharmacology examinations.

Sociolinguistic competence (henceforth SC)refers to the understanding ,or organization of the principles of language use that are determined by the features of the specific language use context ; it enables us to present language functions in ways that are appropriate to that context. The ability to adjust one's speech to fit the situation in which it is said is called sociolinguistic competence, and without this ability, even the most perfectly grammatical utterances can convey a meaning entirely different from that which the speaker intended. Post-graduate students (henceforth PGSs) find it difficult to communicate freely in the target language. The ‘de-emphasized’ status of this competence in educational practice has to do with the fact that it is closely related to the sociocultural part of acquiring a foreign language sociolinguistic confusion can make learners seem so inappropriate as to cause misunderstanding . For nonnative speakers, the misunderstandings they are often faced within the cross-cultural realization of communicative acts usually arise from their failure in appropriate use of pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic competence. Without attempting to identify and discuss the features of the language use circumstances that determine the principles of language use. Cross cultural differences , results in misunderstandings between the speech participants, and can cause serious breakdowns in communication. These rules of speaking can be slowly acquired by the language learner as he/she is immersed in the target language culture; however, learning these rules through immersion is a time consuming process, with many rules going unnoticed for years, or even worse, never being acquired at all. important area of difficulty that PGSs face is communication. This study will focus on SC because it seems to be the most neglected aspect among the four categories of communicative competence in foreign language curriculum. When engaged in authentic communicative situations, they often lack some of the vocabulary or language items they need to get their meaning across. The study also aims at measuring SC of EFL Post Graduate Students and finding out whether there is significant differences between male and female students′ performance which leads to the level of sociolinguistics competence . A test has been constructed and its validity and reliability have been ascertained to measure SC among PGSs. Bachman and Palmer (1990:328) scale used to measure SC. The sample of this study applied 60 PGSs in Tikrit, Babel , Baghdad and Salahaddin Universities. The results of this study indicate that it is due in the methods of language teaching and the learning environment, which are unsuitable for learning a foreign language. Find difficulties in using English for communication.

Researchers have frequently examined the effects of sentence combining (SC) practice upon writing and found positive results. Researchersh ave also investigatedt he effects of writing practice on reading comprehension. But these results have been mixed because of problems in design, the measures used, instructional variables, and the lack of a theoretical base to explain divergent outcomes. The purpose of the current study was to identify effects of SC practice upon reading comprehension and to determine whether cohesion knowledge would be augmented and, if so, whether enhanced cohesion knowledge would affect comprehension. Sixty- five grade 4 students met with a researcherf or 16 instructional sessions. Students in the experimental group devised narratives from sets of cued and uncued kernel sentences, while the control group read compiled narratives developed by the experimental group and then completed crossword puzzles, a “placebo” treatment. The study found statistically significant results on the Stanford Reading Test, positive results approaching significance on cloze passages with structure /function word deletions, but no positive results on passages with content word deletions. These results indicate that SC practice may have enhanced cohesion knowledge and general comprehension. They also suggest that children may effectively learn to attend to semantic and syntactic repetitions that form “chains of cohesion” following SC practice but not after merely reading the same texts.

AbstractPoor school connectedness (SC), defined as students’ feelings of belonging, safety, and fairness at school, is a risk factor for negative psychosocial outcomes. Few studies have examined the specific relationship between SC and anxiety. This study examined the relation between SC and anxiety within a group of 114 clinically anxious youth (mean age = 10.82; SD = 2.93; 48.2% female; 70.2% White, non-Hispanic); age differences were also examined. Results indicated that SC was significantly negatively associated with age but unrelated to gender, race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, parent education, or presence of a comorbid disorder. Findings generally revealed that low SC was associated with greater total and domain specific anxiety. SC may play a unique role in the maintenance of global and domain specific anxiety symptoms.

This paper examined the conceptual understanding, self-efficacy, and scientific creativity of the students in Physics. The study further investigated the significant difference observed in the study variables according to sex and grade level using multivariate analysis. Using descriptive model of research design, the 125 Senior High School (SHS) students were asked to fill out the Physics Conceptual Understanding (PCU) test, Science Learning Self-Efficacy Scale (SLSE), and Scientific Creativity (SC) test. After the score were tallied and organized, two-way MANOVA was administered to determine the difference in the outcome variables when grouped according to sex and grade level. Based on Pillai’s Trace as revealed, there was a statistically significant difference in independent variables based on grade level. The analysis further revealed that PCU (𝑝=0.675) and SLSE (𝑝=0.101) are unaffected, while SC (𝑝=0.010) is influenced by the grade level. This study uncovered that there is no sex difference observed, while statistical variation exists in terms of grade level specifically to SC. This concludes that PCU, SLES, and SC is not affected by their sex identity but are associated on their academic level. Implications for practice into classroom are discussed and further suggestions of future research are provided.

Purpose This study aims to determine the current state of implementation and effectiveness of education for sustainable development (ESD) in Pakistani higher education institutions (HEIs) using students’ and teachers’ perceptions of sustainability. Design/methodology/approach A survey on teachers and students was conducted in public and private universities in Punjab, Pakistan. Data from 1,915 students and 120 teachers were collected through semi-structured questionnaires implemented during face-to-face interviews. Students were asked to rank social, environmental and economic indicators of sustainability consciousness (SC) on a five-point Likert scale. Structural equation model and regression model are used to analyze the data. The perceptions of students and teachers were assessed from their knowledge of sustainability. Findings The occurrence of ESD in Pakistani HEIs is low and teachers have inadequate knowledge of sustainability. The holistic approach to ESD has a more pronounced effect on students’ SC as compared to the pluralistic approach to ESD. Also, there is a correlation between the students’ grades/class and the effectiveness of ESD. There is a need to pay more attention to implement ESD for undergraduate students in Pakistani HEIs. Originality/value The study stands out for using cross-sectional data from public and private universities of Pakistan. Furthermore, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study in Pakistan which attempts to investigate the effectiveness of ESD in terms of students’ SC.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between front-line employees’ (FLEs) extra-role behavior (ERB) and its influence on student satisfaction (SS), student loyalty (SL), and university image (UI), while also examining the moderating effect of student cynicism (SC). Drawing on the service profit chain model, this research proposes a positive relationship between ERB and SS, SL, and UI, with SC acting as a moderator for the relationship between ERB and SS. Using a survey research design, the study was conducted at a semi-government university in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a service encounter between FLEs and students, involving 251 students as respondents. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data collected. The findings demonstrated a significant positive relationship between FLE ERB and SS, SL, and UI. Additionally, the study revealed that SC moderates the relationship between FLE ERB and SS, suggesting that highly cynical students are less responsive to employee extra-role behavior. These findings have significant implications for university management and policymakers. By understanding the impact of FLE ERB on student outcomes and the moderating effect of SC, universities can develop and strengthen targeted strategies to enhance SS, SL, and UI.

These scoping reviews challenge the dissonance between policies on the delivery of spiritual care (SC) to clients in institutions and the education required to perform that delivery. The authors discovered a paucity of literature relating to Scotland regarding healthcare support workers’ SC education and little more regarding that for nurses. There were various gaps in the understanding of SC, planning in the curriculum for SC and subsequent learning by students. The conclusion of this article is that as SC is embedded in human rights policy and government health and social care standards, the educational and professional governing bodies should be responsible for ensuring that SC features in all healthcare training, which should include SC assessment in the curriculum as a way of learning and endorsing knowledge. Specialist knowledge should either be available in colleges and universities or brought in to deliver education.

The use of the educational bag has an impact in increasing the learner's motivation towards learning and personal development among the students through the desire of the two experimental groups and their interaction during the application of the vocabulary of the educational units of the educational bag because it contains the most educational means and teaching decisions given to them by the two methods. Introduction: Although the consumption of synthetic cannabinoids (SC) has become more and more widespread recently, future healthcare professionals, according to the currently available curriculum, receive minimal information about diagnosis and treatment thereof. Aim: The main goal is to assess the level of knowledge of students of health professions about SC and examine the factors that influence that knowledge. Material and methods: A cross-section academic study was conducted among 510 students of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, during 2017 using a structured questionnaire. Results: Forty-nine percent of students answered positively to the question if they knew what SCs were, whereas when they were offered three definitions regarding SCs-92.2% gave the correct answer, with male students demonstrating a better knowledge than female ones (p=0.014). There was no correlation between previous knowledge about SCs and professional qualifications of the student's parents (p=0.953 mother, p=0.500 father) or the student's social media profile existence (p=0.057). Pharmacy students showed better previous knowledge about SCs in comparison with students of other courses (p=0.000) as well as the final year students when compared to those from the 1 st and 2 nd year of study (p=0.000). The repetition of a year level did not affect student's knowledge (p=0.616). Students with experience in alcohol usage showed better previous knowledge of SCs in comparison with alcohol non-users (p=0.008). However, most of the respondents answered "do not know" on the majority of statements about SCs offered. Conclusion: Superficiality in students' knowledge and insufficiency of formal education contributes to the necessity for revising curriculum regarding SCs for future health care professionals.

The research community was identified with middle school students aged (16-18) years in the district of Tikrit, and the sample was chosen by random method and its number is (200) female students from a total of (10) schools divided into two parts, the first is the construction and exploratory sample, and the second part is the application sample. The data were treated statistically using the system (SPSS) using (arithmetic mean, standard error, standard deviation, skew coefficient, simple correlation coefficient, factorial analysis, z- and t-degree). The two researchers concluded through anthropometric measurements, and through factor analysis, (9) anthropometric factors were extracted from the 10 factors that appeared after the rotation. It may be considered an indicator of poor growth and health fitness. The two researchers recommended the adoption of tests and measurements extracted in the process of continuous evaluation of Tikrit female students aged (16-18) years, and the adoption of the criteria reached by the researchers in the evaluation and selection process.
