The possible importance of the reaction of a low-mass star to external irradiation for the long-term evolution of compact binaries has been noted only rather recently; first in the context of the evolution of low-mass X-ray binaries (e.g. Podsiadlowski 1991; Harpaz & Rappaport 1991; Frank, King & Lasota 1992; Hameury et al. 1993) and subsequently by Ritter, Zhang & Kolb (1995a,b, hereafter RZK) also for the evolution of cataclysmic variables (CVs). Based on a simple model for describing the reaction of a low-mass star to irradiation RZK showed that CVs can be dynamically unstable against irradiation-induced mass transfer and that, as a consequence of this, mass transfer could occur via cycles in which phases of high, irradiation-enhanced mass transfer alternate with phases of little or no mass transfer. The occurrence of such mass transfer cycles in CVs was subsequently discussed from a more general point of view by King (1995) and King et al. (1995). Whereas the possibility of mass transfer cycles in CVs is now fully recognised, the question as to which systems can undergo such cycles and which cannot has not yet been addressed in detail. It is the purpose of this contribution to provide at least a partial answer to this question.

The most important rhizomania-resistance gene in sugar beet is the Rz1 gene from the Holly Sugar Company in California, the source widely used to breed partially resistant varieties. Other important gene sources are WB41 and WB42, which both originate from Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima collected in Denmark, and which have been reported to be similar. The major resistance gene in WB42 is known as Rz2. We studied the resistance in WB41 and used markers to map the major resistance gene in this source, which we call Rz3. It was identified on chromosome III. This is the chromosome that Rz1 and Rz2 have been mapped to. Data from greenhouse tests and ELISA showed that Rz3 had incomplete penetrance, with heterozygotes varying widely in resistance levels. The involvement of additional minor genes in the strong resistance of the original WB41 source cannot be excluded.Key words: BNYVV, WB41, rhizomania, QTL, Beta vulgaris, AFLP, SSR.

ABSTRACT Receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signals regulate the specification of a varied array of tissue types by utilizing distinct modules of proteins to elicit diverse effects. The RSK proteins are part of the RTK signal transduction pathway and are thought to relay these signals by acting downstream of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK). In this study we report the identification of ribosomal S6 kinase 4 (Rsk4) as an inhibitor of RTK signals. Among the RSK proteins, RTK inhibition is specific to RSK4 and, in accordance, is dependent upon a region of the RSK4 protein that is divergent from other RSK family members. We demonstrate that Rsk4 inhibits the transcriptional activation of specific targets of RTK signaling as well as the activation of ERK. Developmentally, Rsk4 is expressed in extraembryonic tissue, where RTK signals are known to have critical roles. Further examination of Rsk4 expression in the extraembryonic tissues demonstrates that its expression is inversely correlated with the presence of activated ERK 1/2. These studies demonstrate a new and divergent function for RSK4 and support a role for RSK proteins in the specification of RTK signals during early mouse development.

Theoretical models predict that, under restrictive host conditions, virus populations will exhibit greater genetic variability. This virus response has been experimentally demonstrated in a few cases but its relation with a virus's capability to overcome plant resistance is unknown. To explore the genetic host effects on Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV) populations that might be related to resistance durability, a wild-type virus isolate was vector inoculated into partially resistant Rz1, Rz2, and susceptible sugar beet cultivars during a serial planting experiment. Cloning and sequencing a region of the viral RNA-3, involving the pathogenic determinant p25, revealed that virus diversity significantly increased in direct proportion to the strength of host resistance. Thus, whereas virus titers were highest, intermediate, and lowest in susceptible, Rz1, and Rz2 plants, respectively; the average number of nucleotide differences among single-plant populations was 0.8 (±0.1) in susceptible, 1.4 (±0.1) in Rz1, and 2.4 (±0.2) in Rz2 genotypes. A similar relationship between host restriction to BNYVV root accumulation and virus genetic variability was detected in fields of sugar beet where these specific Rz1- and Rz2-mediated resistances have been defeated.

Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV) is the causal agent of rhizomania, a disease of global importance to the sugar beet industry. The most widely implemented resistance gene to rhizomania to date is Rz1, but resistance has been circumvented by resistance-breaking (RB) isolates worldwide. In an effort to gain greater understanding of the distribution of BNYVV and the nature of RB isolates in Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, sugar beet plants were grown in 594 soil samples obtained from production fields and subsequently were analyzed for the presence of BNYVV as well as coding variability in the viral P25 gene, the gene previously implicated in the RB pathotype. Baiting of virus from the soil with sugar beet varieties possessing no known resistance to rhizomania resulted in a disease incidence level of 10.6% in the region examined. Parallel baiting analysis of sugar beet genotypes possessing Rz1, the more recently introgressed Rz2, and with the combination of Rz1 + Rz2 resulted in a disease incidence level of 4.2, 1.0, and 0.8%, respectively. Virus sequences recovered from sugar beet bait plants possessing resistance genes Rz1 and/or Rz2 exhibited reduced genetic diversity in the P25 gene relative to those recovered from the susceptible genotype while confirming the hypervariable nature of the coding for amino acids (AAs) at position 67 and 68 in the P25 protein. In contrast to previous reports, we did not find an association between any one specific AA signature at these positions and the ability to circumvent Rz1-mediated resistance. The data document ongoing virulence development in BNYVV populations to previously resistant varieties and provide a baseline for the analysis of genetic change in the virus population that may accompany the implementation of new resistance genes to manage rhizomania.

We present a case study in which we used a novel method to identify red supergiant (RSG) candidates in NGC 6822 based on their 1.6 μm H-bump. We collected 32 bands of photometric data for NGC 6822 ranging from the optical to the mid-infrared, derived from Gaia, PS1, LGGS, VHS, UKIRT, IRSF, HAWK-I, Spitzer, and WISE. Using the theoretical spectra from MARCS, we demonstrate that there is a prominent difference around 1.6 μm (H-bump) between targets with high and low surface gravity (HSG and LSG). Taking advantage of this feature, we identify efficient color–color diagrams of rzH (r − z vs. z − H) and rzK (r − z vs. z − K) to separate HSG (mostly foreground dwarfs) and LSG targets (mainly background red giant stars, asymptotic giant branch stars, and RSGs) from crossmatching of optical and near-infrared (NIR) data. Moreover, synthetic photometry from ATLAS9 gives similar results. We further separated RSG candidates from the remaining LSG candidates as determined by the H-bump method by using semi-empirical criteria on NIR color–magnitude diagrams, where both the theoretic cuts and morphology of the RSG population are considered. This separation produced 323 RSG candidates. The simulation of foreground stars with Besançon models also indicates that our selection criteria are largely free from the contamination of Galactic giants. In addition to the H-bump method, we used the traditional BVR method (B − V vs. V − R) as a comparison and/or supplement by applying a slightly aggressive cut to select as many RSG candidates as possible (358 targets). Furthermore, the Gaia astrometric solution was used to constrain the sample, where 181 and 193 targets were selected with the H-bump and BVR method, respectively. The percentages of selected targets in the two methods are similar at ∼60%, indicating a comparable accuracy of the two methods. In total, there are 234 RSG candidates after combining targets from the two methods, and 140 (∼60%) of them are in common. The final RSG candidates are in the expected locations on the mid-infrared color–magnitude diagram with [3.6]−[4.5] ≲ 0 and J − [8.0] ≈ 1.0. The spatial distribution is also coincident with the far-ultraviolet-selected star formation regions, suggesting that the selection is reasonable and reliable. We indicate that our method can also be used to identify other LSG targets, such as red giants and asymptotic giant branch stars, and it can also be applied to most of the nearby galaxies by using recent large-scale ground-based surveys. Future ground- and space-based facilities may promote its application beyond the Local Group.

Rak gruczołu krokowego(RGK) dotyczy coraz większej liczby mężczyzn w Polsce. Zwiększenie dostępności do badania stężenia antygenu sterczowego (PSA) i większa świadomość społeczeństwa doprowadziła do wykrywania choroby u pacjentów bezobjawowych we wczesnym stadium. Skutkiem wczesnego wykrycia RGK jest możliwość zastosowania wielu opcji terapeutycznych. Jednakże u części chorych z RGK wprowadzenie leczenia nie wydłuży życia i nie poprawi jego jakości, a nawet ją obniży ze względu na skutki uboczne. Grupa chorych o niskim zaawansowaniu największy zysk terapeutyczny odnosi z aktywnej obserwacji (AO).AO to postępowanie oparte na monitorowaniu zaawansowania klinicznego, biochemicznego i histopatologicznego w celu uniknięcia leczenia lub jego odroczenia. Mimo wielu zalet i bezpieczeństwa, jest nadal bardzo rzadko stosowana w Polsce. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie doniesień z konferencji Europejskiego Towarzystwa Radioterapii Onkologicznej ( ESTRO ) w Turynie w 2016 roku na temat AO. W trakcie konferencji omówiono postępowanie AO z punktu widzenia patologa , radiologa i onkologa. Podsumowując , AO jest postępowaniem bezpiecznym, obarczonym niskim ryzykiem skutków ubocznych,a także ekonomicznie uzasadnionym u dobrze dobranych chorych.

Testing of plants was conducted using polymerase chain reaction method. The genes R6m-1, Rz1 and Rz2, Pm were identified with the help of 5 one-chain RAPD and 4 allele-specific primers. Aim of the studies is to screen sugar beet varieties for presence of the abovementioned genes of resistance. Domestic and foreign sugar beet hybrids were an object of the studies.

A number of amphiphilic cyclic peptides—[FR]4, [WR]5, and [WK]5—containing hydrophobic and positively-charged amino acids were synthesized by Fmoc/tBu solid-phase peptide methods and evaluated for their efficiency in intracellular delivery of siRNA to triple-negative breast cancer cell lines, MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468, in the presence and absence of 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE). Among the peptides, [WR]5, which contains alternate tryptophan (W) and arginine (R) residues, was found to be the most efficient in the delivery of siRNA by improving the delivery by more than 3-fold when compared to other synthesized cyclic peptides that were not efficient. The data also showed that co-formulation of [WR]5 with lipid DOPE significantly enhanced the efficiency of siRNA delivery by up to ~2-fold compared to peptide alone. Based on the data indicating the efficiency of [WR]5 in siRNA delivery, peptides containing arginine residues on the ring and tryptophan residues on the side chain, [R6K]W6 and [R5K]W5, were also evaluated, and demonstrated improved delivery of siRNA. The presence of DOPE again enhanced the siRNA delivery in most cases. [WR]5, [R5K]W5, and [R6K]W6 did not show any significant toxicity in MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-468, and AU565 WT cells at N/P ratios of 20:1 or less, in the presence and absence of DOPE. Silencing of kinesin spindle protein (KSP) and Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) was evaluated in MDA-MB-231 cells in the presence of the peptides. The addition of DOPE significantly enhanced the silencing efficiency for all selected peptides. In conclusion, peptides containing tryptophan and arginine residues were found to enhance siRNA delivery and to generate silencing of targeted proteins in the presence of DOPE.

AbstractThe West Firsby Oilfield exemplifies the classic east Midlands oil play, sourced by early Namurian pro-deltaic shales. Stacked fluvio-deltaic sandstone reservoirs of latest Namurian to early Westphalian 'A' age are structured into a Variscan inversion anticline in the hanging wall of the northeastern boundary fault of the Dinantian-Namurian Gainsborough Trough. The Enterprise West Firsby-1 discovery well, drilled on a 'Top Westphalian 'A'' seismic depth closure, encountered oil-bearing sandstones at three levels. These are thought to represent the earliest Westphalian 'A' Sub-Alton/Crawshaw distributary channel and mouthbar sandstones (Reservoir Zone [RZ] 1), the stacked fluvial channel sands of the Namurian Rough Rock (RZ2) and an underlying high quality mouth-bar sandstone (RZ3). In the hanging wall setting, these units can be correlated over an area far larger than the West Firsby Field.On acquiring operatorship of the Development Licence (DL 003) in 1991, Tullow Exploration put the WF-1 well into production from RZ2 and 3 disposing of produced water in the earlier-drilled and unsuccessful WF-2 step-out. Between 1992 and 1996, three new production wells (WF-4, -5 and -6) were drilled from the same surface site. The wells principally produce from RZ2 and involve high-angle/horizontal sections in these sandstones, approaching 170 m in length in WF-6. Strong aquifer support, coupled with the injection of produced water into RZ2 of WF-2, promotes early natural flow from such wells at rates up to 800BOPD, and when this declines jet-pumping can maintain production at rates of several hundred BOPD/well. As of 1st January 1999, the West Firsby Oilfield had produced 0.97 MMBBL of an estimated 13 MMBBL OIIP, maintaining an average annual rate during 1998 of 345 BOPD from four wells. Remaining recoverable reserves are estimated at around 1.03 MMBBL.

Sammanfattning   Förutsättning   I examensarbetet har det ingått ett verkligt ärende som handläggs av mig som MBK-ingenjör inom Lantmäteriet. Det är ett naturvårdsuppdrag från Länsstyrelsen och innefattar bl a inmätning och utstakning av gräns på ett blivande naturreservat.   Naturvårdsuppdraget Huskeberget ligger ca 5 km norr om Södra Finnskoga och sydväst om Höljes i norra Värmland. Omkrets 2,38 km. Områdets höjd är ca 550 m över havet och ligger på sydöstra sluttningen av Huskeberget.   Fix   Lantmäteriet använder idag Leica Viva CS15/GS15 mätutrustning vid inmätning av brytpunkter och gränser. I detta fall det blivande naturreservatet. Under vissa omständigheter kan det ta tid att få fix-lösning eller helt utebli. Dessa omständigheter kan bero på ett flertal faktorer bl a kraftiga jonosfärsstörningar och/eller GPRS-nätets täckningsområde för mottagning av SWEPOS nätverks-RTK tjänst.   Inriktning   Fokus har lagts på att utvärdera ett alternativ till nätverks-RTK, en sk enkelstations-RTK med uppkoppling till en tillfällig referensstation.   Närmare undersökning har gjorts på tiden för initialisering vid varje enskild inmätning som sedan jämförts i de två mätmetoderna. Tiden för själva arbetet sätts sedan i relation till resultatet från undersökningen för att ge en helhetsbild av tidsåtgång i arbetet med vardera mätmetoden.   Resultat   Efter alla brytpunkter mätts in visade det sig att i just det här området inte fanns några anmärkningsvärda problem att få fix-lösning med någon av de valda mätmetoderna. Resultatet visar därmed små skillnader i tidsjämförelser.   En oplanerad testmätning med nätverks-RTK gjordes i tät skog alldeles intill en inmätt brytpunkt utan framgång att få fix-lösning. Detta för att belysa problematiken med att få fix-lösning vid mätning i tät skog.   Rapporten innehåller en kortfattad beskrivning av delar av arbetet i Lantmäteriets handläggning av naturvårdsuppdrag.

Stability on the Korean peninsula is a goal for several countries. The Republic of Korea (ROK) has depended on the United States to maintain stability on the Korean peninsula, but realizes its greater independence from a long time ally may be inevitable, especially after reunification. Measures now required afford the ROK every opportunity to provide for its own security and stability, including the need for modernizing the ROK Navy (ROKN). Present and future South Korean naval commitments to regional and international maritime environments support the transition from a brown water navy to a blue water navy capable of meeting future challenges. The ROK intends to achieve a naval force capable of projecting power, carrying out its strategic objectives, and ultimately guaranteeing vital defense for ROK sea lanes of communications. South Korea borders on the East Sea and the West Sea, dictating the need for a maritime force, to protect the lifeblood of the South Korean economy. Currently, the ROKN cannot compete against large modern navies, capable of conducting sustained naval operations while concurrently maintaining various platforms assigned numerous tasks. The ROKN's opportunity is ripe to expand its existing force into a modern blue water navy.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka om RTK – tekniken (Real Time Kinematik) i framtiden kan komma att användas vid lotsning i Sverige, ombord på fartyg med begränsat vattendjup under kölen.  Squateffekten påverkar fartyg vid passage över grunda partier i farleder och i kanaler. För att minska ner på squateffekten så kan man minska ned på farten eller ändra fartygets trim. Studien har utformats utefter en kvalitativ metod, som handlar om att man väljer att bearbeta och analysera sin information genom att verbala analysmetoder används. Detta har genomförts genom att intervjua ett antal utvalda lotsar som både är insatta samt mindre insatta i tekniken. På så sätt belystes olika aspekter på tekniken och ifall det finns andra områden som lotsarna kan ha nytta utav denna utrustning i sitt dagliga arbete. Vid genomförandet av uppsatsen valdes en systematisk litteraturstudie. Sökningar genomfördes globalt för att få fram information om var det skett olyckor pga. squateffektens inverkan samt vilka länder som genomfört tester ombord med RTK-tekniken. Resultatet av ett användande av RTK-tekniken är att lotsar och sjöbefäl har möjlighet att få reda på hur fartyget rör sig och när det då utsätts för squateffekten. Detta för RTK-tekniken har möjlighet att ge information om hur fartyget rör sig med en noggrannhet på 3-4 centimeter i alla led samt få en exaktare hastighet även i sidled. Det finns även möjlighet att få fram en tredimensionell bild över fartyget. Resultat visar också att det finns ett behov och intresse för fler tester med RTK-tekniken. Med stöd av RTK-tekniken finns det möjlighet att få fram en bättre positionering och att ha en bättre översikt på hur fartyget rör sig samt i vilken hastighet. Resultatet visade också att tekniken är användbar för lotsarna och på vilket sätt den kan underlätta i deras dagliga arbete.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether RTK - technology (Real Time Kinematic) in the future may be used for piloting in Sweden, on board vessels with limited depth of water under the keel. The squat effect cured vessels when they passing over an area of shallow waters in a fairway or a channel. To reduce the squat effect it can be done to increase the speed or change the trim of the vessel. The study has been designed along a qualitative method, which is about one chooses to process and analyze their information by verbal analysis methods. This has been carried out by interviewing a number of selected pilots that are both familiar and less familiar with the technology. In this way, highlighted various aspects of the technology and whether there are other areas that pilots can use this equipment in their daily work. In the implementation of the essay was elected a systematic literature. It was conducted a global search to obtain information about where the accident occurred of the squat effect and which countries that have been tested this technology onboard. The result of the RTK-technology is that pilots and ship's officers have the opportunity to find out how the vessel is moving and when it is exposed of the squat effect. The RTK-technology are able to provide information how the vessel move with an accuracy of 3-4 centimeters at every stage and get a more exact speed even in sideways. It is also possible to obtain a three-dimensional image of the vessel. The results confirm that there is a need and an interest for further testing with the RTK-technology. The results also showed that the technology is useful for the pilots and how it can useful for them in their daily work.

Home health care is heavily utilized to assist homebound clientele with a variety of medical needs. Home health services greatest population is the baby boomers. This population has multiple chronic medical problems that requires surgical intervention, disabilities that limit mobility, many suffer from a loss of mental capacities, or they suffer from depression which affects their physical and mental well-being. Because this population will continue to grow over the next several years, there will continue to be a growing need for home health care. RTK Home Health Services proposes to improve the home care delivered to this population by introducing a new psychological concept that is currently helpful in Psychiatry. The goal is to introduce this service during therapy sessions to decrease the emotional perception of pain by meditating. The full name of this service is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Techniques. It is accomplished by instituting meditation prior to therapy to convince the client to control and manipulate their perception to pain during therapy.

GNSS-teknik ersätter i allt högre grad terrester mätteknik, dels på grund av sin enkelhet och dels på grund av att den är mindre kostsam än traditionella metoder. En vanlig förekommande GNSS-teknik är RTK (Real Time Kinematic) som är en teknik som beräknar en position i realtid genom bärvågsmätning. Inom RTK-mätning finns det olika tekniker att utöva; enkelstations-RTK (ERTK) och nätverks-RTK (NRTK). I studien undersöktes kvaliteten och lägesosäkerhet på höjdbestämningsdata erhållen från dessa metoder. En envägs variansanalys (ANOVA) användes för att undersöka om det fanns en signifikant skillnad mellan de genomsnittliga avvikelser som erhölls från mätmetoderna. Mätmetoderna utfördes över två punkter med känd höjd som fastställdes tidigare med ett dubbelavvägningståg. ERTK och NRTK varvades med en observationstid på 20 minuter med positioneringsintervall på 3 sekunder. Tidseparationen mellan mätningarna varade i 30 minuter och sammanlagt utfördes 5 mätserier med 400 observationer i varje serie. Grova fel eliminerades genom att kassera värden som föll utanför 3σ-gränsen. Resultaten från ERTK-mätningarna visade att punkten kunde höjdbestämmas med en lägesosäkerhet på 22 mm och en mätosäkerhet på 32 mm (2σ) för samtliga mätserier tillsammans. Internt varierade lägesosäkerheten 13–28 mm mellan serierna. NRTK mätningarna erhöll en total lägesosäkerhet på 14 mm och en mätosäkerhet på 24 mm (2σ). Från enskilda mätserier erhöll serie 3 den lägsta lägesosäkerheten på 9 mm, och serie 4 den högsta med 18 mm. Generellt visade NRTK-metoden lägre och jämnare avvikelser från referensdata än ERTK, resultatet kan dock ha blivit påverkat av basens läge i relation till ett närliggande träd. ANOVA-testet visade att det fanns en signifikant skillnad mellan mätserierna (p =0,00) per enskild metod, men skillnaden av medelavvikelserna mellan dessa metoder var inte signifikanta (p =0,115). Resultatet från denna studie är viktig med avseende på kvalitetsutvärdering av olika GNSS-metoder och kan användas som underlag för beslut om tillämpad metod för andra mätuppdrag.
A quality survey was performed on the position accuracy of two GNSS-methods (single station-RTK and network-RTK) for height determination, and a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for statistical investigation of differences in the spread of height deviations. The GNSS-methods were applied on a reference point, which was determined prior with leveling, and measured with 20 minutes observation time and 30 minutes time separation, resulting in 5 series containing 400 observations each from respective method. The ANOVA test was performed by grouping the height deviations with respect to the measurement series, as well as the mean deviations with respect to the methods. Height determination with the ERTK method showed a total positional uncertainty of 22 mm (13-28 mm between the series) and a measurement uncertainty of 32 mm (2σ). Results obtained with NRTK showed a total positional uncertainty of 14 mm (9-14 between the series) and a total measurement uncertainty of 24 mm (2σ). The statistical tests showed that the differences between the measurement series for individual methods were significant (p = 0,000) but that the mean deviations between the methods were not (p = 0,115). NRTK obtained a lower positional uncertainty than ERTK measurements in this study, and the ANOVA test showed that there was no significant difference in the distribution of the mean deviations between the measurement methods. This study is important with regard to quality evaluation of different GNSS-methods and can be used as a basis for deciding on the applied measurement method.

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar desde la mayor cantidad de aspectos posibles la técnica RTK, para luego obtener las respectivas conclusiones. Para cumplir con el objetivo propuesto se debió contar con una red de puntos con coordenadas geodésicas conocidas, la cual sirvió de base para las pruebas y mediciones que se hicieron con los equipos RTK. Por otro lado, se conformó una red de puntos con coordenadas geodésicas y planas locales con el fin de probar las funciones de replanteo con las que cuenta el equipo RTK y de comparar resultados de esta técnica con los de un levantamiento Stop and Go y con los de una Estación Total. Otro punto de importancia para la concreción del trabajo fue la zona elegida para llevar a cabo la experiencia, la cual debió guardar características variadas para analizar el comportamiento de las comunicaciones entre los receptores. Con el objeto de analizar las precisiones, el alcance, el comportamiento de la comunicación radial ante diversos terrenos y de comparar la técnica RTK con el método Estático, se diseñó una red de puntos en la zona de Punta Lara y Diagonal 74 que se midió en forma estática y con abundantes vectores redundantes. Posteriormente se realizó un ajuste de la red para darle mayor calidad a la posición de los puntos que la componían. Con esta red se podrá establecer la precisión real que pueden proporcionar los equipos RTK y además determinar si la misma es dependiente de la distancia entre la base y el móvil, o si depende en mayor medida de otros factores. Con el fin de efectuar comparaciones de resultados, el procesamiento de vectores y el ajuste de red se hicieron con programas de dos empresas: GPSurvey y TRIMNET, de la firma TRIMBLE (con la que se hicieron todas las mediciones) y GPPS y FILLNET, de la firma ASHTECH. A su vez, con cada programa se hicieron dos ajustes diferentes; uno con los vectores independientes de cada sesión solamente y otro con vectores dependientes. Esta segunda prueba también se hizo para encontrar diferencias entre ajustes. Con el objeto de dejar en claro algunos conceptos básicos de la medición con equipos GPS (Sistema de Posicionamiento Global), sistema en el que se apoyan los equipos RTK, se hará una breve descripción del mismo y se definirán conceptos propios y relacionados al mismo; aunque es necesario aclarar que este sistema de medición utiliza una gran cantidad de algoritmos que le dan cierta complejidad.

Abstract Site assessments for bifacial Photovoltaic (PV) installation are quite challenging to conduct manually due to the area size and the extreme temperature conditions at desert sites. We designed and built an autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) fitted with a Global Navigation Satellite Network-System Real-Time Kinematic (GNSS-RTK) positioning device, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), encoder to improve and aid site assessments in desert condition. Sandy terrains deserts are challenging for UGV’s because they increase the likelihood of wheel slippage due to reduced traction. Sensor details such as IMU, GNSS-RTK, and encoder should be taken into consideration to account for the errors that the desert terrains pose. This study compared the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) for standard GPS & GNSS-RTK to verify which performs better for the UGV’s position estimation. The estimated UGV’s position from the kinematics model and EKF are validated using a drone camera system that uses an image processing technique to verify the UGV’s position with the help of the visible reference cones. Throughout the experiments, the GNSS-RTK performed better than GPS. Also, the EKF performed as well as the GNSS-RTK by trusting it more than the encoder/gyroscope reading.

RTK (Real Time Kinematic) method for positioning is used in daily life by different consumers for many purposes. When there are so many measurements, it is essential to know where RTK measurements are concentrated and which stations are obligatory for LitPOS performance. In this paper, using RTK software generated reports and SQL database records, we introduced the geographic information systems show to graphically LitPOS users activity and density of measurements. Using this data we analyze how LitPOS users are divided among Lithuanian municipalities, how much users are working each month and how this affects LitPOS performance. This study is performed in Lithuania, where state wide permanent GNSS reference station network has been maintained since year 2007.

The topography of a machined surface significantly influences the performance of both lubricated and unlubricated contacts. In this work the unlubricated frictionless contact of rough surfaces is the subject of study. The numerical deterministic contact mechanics model incorporates linear elastic surface material and the dry contact is simulated using classes of surface profiles randomly generated from a given Abbott curve (Abbott-Firestone bearing ratio curve). In this way all the height information of the surface profile is preserved and not only a few parameters, like Ra, Rq, Rz, Rsk, etc. The aim of this work is to investigate how classes of surfaces based on a single Abbott curve perform in terms of contact mechanical parameters like the real area of contact. The result shows that surfaces taken from a class of random surfaces generated from a specific Abbott curve behaves similar in a contact mechanics simulation. That is, the distribution of for example the real area of contact within such a class is compact, having a small deviation from its mean. This implies that it is possible to simulate classes of surfaces based on Abbott curves and to use the results to predict contact mechanical properties of real surface topographies.

Abstract Sequential honing process is usually implemented in engine cylinder bore processing to obtain the cross-hatched surface texture with excellent function to balance lubricant storage capacities and supporting performance. Many researches have devoted to correlating honed surface quality of cylinder bore with honing process parameters by means of experiments or simulations. Quite a few efforts have addressed the effect of sequential multiple steps on the surface texture in the honing of engine cylinder bore. However, these researches cannot provide an explicit and analytical methodology to predict honed surface texture efficiently and accurately. This paper presents an analytical and explicit methodology to incorporate a proposed microscale abrasive model into the analytical simulation process of sequential honing. The proposed abrasive model synthetically considers the shape, size, posture, and position of abrasives randomly distributed in honing stone, which is incorporated into honing head motions in terms of rotation, oscillation and feeding. The kinematics of honing head is calculated by space-time discretization to capture the interaction between honing stones and cylinder bore surface. The above procedure acts as each single step for the sequential honing processes. This study investigates the sequential honing of two stages including semi-finish honing and plateau honing at different feeding speeds by applying the abrasive model with different abrasive sizes. The formation of cross-hatched surface texture was successfully achieved sequentially by semi-finish honing and plateaus honing. Then the Abbott-Firestone Curve of the honed surface can be obtained to analyze the influences of abrasive size and honing time of two stages on the surface roughness. Correctness of surface roughness predicted by the model is verified by comparing with a group of experiment measurements in terms of Abbott-Firestone Curve. Most errors of all the predicted Rk roughness family roughness parameters in the two honing stages are less than 15%. Based on the model, simulations are done to analyze the influences of abrasive size and honing duration time of two stages on the surface roughness. The result shows that the larger abrasive used in finish honing leads to the decrease of the material portions Mr1, Mr2 and the increase of the reduced valley depth Rvk. The longer plateau honing duration time is preferred to produce the larger Mr1, Mr2 and the smaller Rvk.

The aim of the present research was to investigate surface topography in terms of different surface roughness parameters and to correlate surface topography change to friction of contact surfaces. For this purpose, different 100Cr6 plate samples with different surface topography were prepared. Using different grades and combinations of grinding and polishing samples with similar Ra values, but different Rku and Rsk values were obtained. To evaluate influence of roughness parameters on friction and wear, dry and lubricated pin-on-disc tests were carried out under different contact conditions. Test results indicate that high Rku and negative Rsk values lead to decrease in friction. To investigate the effect of surface texturing on surface roughness parameters, real roughness profiles were virtually altered to achieve virtually textured surfaces. Using NIST SMATS softgauge for calculation of surface roughness parameters, virtually altered roughness profiles were investigated in terms of texture size, shape and spacing, and their influence on surface roughness parameters, especially on skewness and kurtosis. Lower diameter, higher spacing and wedge-shaped dimples reflect in higher Rku and more negative Rsk parameters.

Transformacja ustrojowa w Polsce sprzyjała rozwojowi formalnych inicjatyw społecznych. Na tym polu dostrzegalne były również zinstytucjonalizowane działania kobiet. Już 4 października 1989 r. zarejestrowano Polskie Stowarzyszenie Feministyczne. Rozpoczął się proces rozbudzania „solidarności płci”, konstytuowania polskiego ruchu feministycznego i formalizacji działań organizacji nawiązujących do idei równouprawnienia płci. Asumptem do legalizacji działań środowisk kobiecych był projekt ustawy penalizującej aborcję, ale też nieobsadzenie urzędu pełnomocnika do spraw kobiet. W tym kontekście można było spodziewać się wzrostu liczby materiałów prasowych dotyczących zorganizowanej działalności kobiet. Celem badań była rekonstrukcja medialnego obrazu organizacji kobiecych, który był prezentowany w najpopularniejszych polskich pismach dedykowanych kobietom („Kobieta i Życie”, „Przyjaciółka”, „Zwierciadło”) w latach 1989- 1992. Cezura badawcza odpowiadała pierwszej fazie transformacji systemowej w Polsce. Inicjował ją rok, w którym odbyły się Obrady Okrągłego Stołu, a kończył rok uchwalenia tzw. małej konstytucji w 1992 r.

A real-time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS) has been identified for potentially being used as a ground-truth sensor for testing robotic rovers for planetary exploration. A series of environmental tests needs to be performed in order to validate the performance of the sensor at hand before being used as a ground-truth system. This paper focuses on the performance evaluation of the RTK GPS at Axel Heiberg Island Canadian Space Agency’s Analogue Research Network (CARN) site. This is one of the officially recognized terrestrial analogues, that is places on Earth that approximate the geological, environmental and putative biological conditions on Mars and other planetary bodies (Hipkin et al.). The challenge lies in the use of the equipment at Arctic latitudes. The results show that the system performed according to specifications even in this challenging environment.
