Córdoba, Marie. „L'écriture biographique dans l'oeuvre d'Elena Poniatowska“. Caen, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997CAEN1216.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleQuerido diego te abraza quiela, hasta no verte jesus mio and tinisima are three texts by elena poniatowska which can be considered as biographies since they talk about three women who have really existed : angelina beloff, called quiela, russian painter exiled in paris, josefina borquez, called jesusa palancares, poor peasant woman from tehuantepec and tina modotti, expatriate italian in the usa, then in mexico, photographer and international communist militant. Those three lives are apparently very different and elena poniatowska chose three distinct literary genders : epistolary novel for the first, testimonial novel for the second and fiction for the last. But beyond those differences, a same practice of writing appears, and a same destiny for these three women. Elena poniatowska alwaysinfringes the literary gender she has chosen. So she takes away all the peculiarities of referential texts (no prologue, no photos, imaginary names. . . ) and she multiplies them in the only book which proclaims it belongs to fiction; so in tinisima, photos are omnipresent. The three women suffered deaths which build again their identity : son's death for quiela, mother's death for jesusa, lover's death for tina. Those three persons are very important in the feminine identity elaboration. After those deaths each one has to construct herself out of the areas which patriarcal tradition assigns to women : love and maternity. Each one talks about this second birth as if she would generate herself. Simbolically that amounts to refusing genealogy as origine of identity. The deconstruction of gender that poniatowska practices is an echo of this new feminine identity elaboration
Ouriachi, Katia. „Si la philosophie m’était contée : figures de philosophes dans les fictions narratives contemporaines“. Electronic Thesis or Diss., Sorbonne université, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023SORUL168.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis thesis analyzes the renegotiation of the relationship between literature and philosophy in narrative fiction at the turn of the 20th and 19th centuries, through the representation of philosophical figures. These figures, which the author sees as objects of value, reveal a claim to the cognitive scope of fiction and the proximity of novelistic thought to philosophical discourse. In the 20th century, the philosopher was the foil of the artist, the thought of the novel took shape against him, manifesting itself in fictional essays. Today, while philosophy is increasingly staged and valorized within fiction, theoretical developments in fiction are rarer. Fiction thus asserts that its own regime of veracity lies in its capacity to imagine. Staging philosophers allows to articulate living and thinking. By emphasizing the story of the philosopher's life and actions, fictional narrative brings philosophical thought down into the realm of sensible experience, and puts it to the test. Literature is often presented as the place where discourses of knowledge come undone. But contemporary texts are part of a form of thought that is enriched by its proximity to philosophy. A dynamic relationship between philosophical discourse and the thinking of the novel is emerging. Where the novel of the previous century thought against philosophy, today's novel thinks with philosophy. Renewing the dialogue with philosophy, the narrative renews its own aesthetic. Contemporary authors are forging original narrative forms to tell the story of philosophy, rather than to expound it

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis biography of Georges Bonnet, a twentieth century French politician, who was a radical minister between the wars, retraces the path of a pacifist. The aim of this study is to show the earlines of his ideological commitment as well as the steadiness of his efforts to find a social concensus and to take the heat out of the handling of international relations. His particulary long political carreer can be accounted for by his deep roots in Périgord. This controversial figure, whose surface opportunism was only a way to make his deep convictions triumph, distorted his own picture by being so conscientious a defender of the Munich conference

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAuthor of five works between 1773 and 1778, Madam de Laisse since fell into the lapse of memory. Its life remained unknown, this work is thus presented in the form of an outline of its biography. However, a large side of its life remains still quite mysterious. If it is possible to follow it and to find which could be its youth, its life of woman, married with Mister de Laisse, then with the count de Garrault. Its existence for the revolutionary period remains opaque. Nevertheless, this study made it possible to better understand which was this woman writer and which was its circle of close friends. Some of her friends are transposed in a way more or less disguised in its books, in particular Mister Leroy de Fontigny. The major work Madam de Laisse forever studied. However, "Ouvrage sans titre, Minerve le donnera" is an interesting epistolary novel putting in scene two girls : Julie and Sophie. Novel of separation, since one is in France and the other in Italy, the two writers share thanks to the letters their emotions in front of the events which they face. The epistie dedicated to the queen Marie-Antoinette expresses the will of the author clearly to show that there is no happiness without virtue. She indicates, thanks to her novel, the dangers which the women must avoid and qualities that they must develop in order to be able to claim with a happy life
Faerber, Johan. „Esthétique baroque du nouveau roman“. Paris 3, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA030039.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleFar from limiting itself to the XVIIth century, the Baroque in literature may be regarded as a heterochronic notion leading the New Novel. Contrary to the image of a fuzzy set gathering diverse writers, the esthetics of the new Baroque enables us to define these novelists as being a literary group with a homogeneous textual identity, and can be considered the very possibility for the New Novel to exist. The diachronic eras gather into a synchronic game which first settles a rhetoric of the otherness and claims an ontology of the nothingness as in the literature of the baroque era. The unravelled characters are compelled to wander in a space which represents the moving macrocosm ruled by a world being a stage. Through these mimetic issues, the trompe-l'oeil reign unfolds a misology of the fiction questionning the virtualities of assertion. Therefore, writing shivers in its core, judges itself in a double gesture that squares its power, and shows off, just as the baroque peacock does, a conspicuous overload. Eventually, the era of suspicion would go back to the baroque age

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleTHE NOVEL DID NOT EXIST IN THE NIGERIEN LITERARY TRADITIONS, IT HAS IN THE CASE IN ALL THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES. AFTER 30 YEARS OF EXISTANCE, THE NIGERIEN ROMANESQUE PRODUCTIONS ARE A REALITY BUT REMAIN, HOWEVER, QUASI-ANONYMOUS UNDER THE PEN OF THE CRITIC WHERE THE GENERAL APPROACH OF STUDYING THE "AFRICAN NOVEL" DOES NOT ALLOW FOR AN ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFICATIONS. THUS, WHEN ONE CONSIDERS THE NIGERIEN NOVEL FROM A NARRATIVE POINT OF VIEW, ONE FINDS AGAIN A PROMINENCE OF NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES OF FOLKLORES. FROM THIS POINT, WE CAN'T ACCEPT THIS CONCEPTION WHERE MOST PEOPLE CONSIDER THE AFRICAN ROMANESQUE PRODUCTIONS AS A SIMPLLY CONTINUITY OF WESTERN NOVEL. THE NIGERIEN NOVELIST PORTRAY A MULTICULTURE SOCIETY TO WHICH HE BELONGS, THUS EACH TIME IT WRITES AND AT THE SAME TIME COMPELS A DOUBLE TEMPTATION : THE ART OF FOLKLORES TELLERS AND THE ART OF MODERN NARRATION. With 30 YEARS OF EXISTANCE, THE NIGERIEN NOVEL IS ALWAYS AT INITIATIVE STAGE WHICH, SIMULTANOUSLY, BRINGS ABOUT THE TRADITIONAL AND MODERN INTERTEXTS. IT IS THEREFORE NECESSARY TO CONSIDER THE NIGERIEN ROMANESQUE SPEECHES AT THE FIRST STAGE OF CONCEPTI
Gefen, Alexandre. „Vies imaginaires : le récit biographique comme genre littéraire aux dix-neuvième et vingtième siècles“. Paris 4, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA040208.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis work offers a repertoire and an analysis of the different uses of biographical narration in French Literature, both in the XIXth and the XXth century: hagiographic fictions, novels with a biographical chronotope, "biographèmes", lives of imaginary characters or imaginary lives of actual characters, "biofictions". These texts, for which the Vies imaginaires by M. Schwob (1896) and the Vies minuscules by P. Michon (1994) offer two major models, enter in opposition with the representations of positive historical biographies and with the famous or exemplary lives produced by a collective memory: they use the linguistic, narrative and topical patterns of biography with an aesthetical aim, often in a playful and demystifying way. Giving rise to major theoretical questions concerning classifications of genres and status, these lives play an important part in defining the modern literary field and in the renewal of poetics. Major occasions for a reflection upon himself by the writer, often brief or fragmentary, these texts serve in effect as an alternative for the novel, whether they lead to excess in measure and sacralization of writing (since they become the place for a second genesis), or to an egalitarian and materialistic realism. They embrace at the same time the understanding of a vital totality (a destiny, be it small, romance-like, tragic or playful) and a direct or oblique way of enquiring on other people. Literary workshop for personal identities and new art of memory, these lives can be defined, with R. Barthes, as "the impossible science of the unique being" and echo the contradictory tendencies of modern culture that constitute the pride of difference and the duty of transmission; in this way, they bear witness to the hermeneutic and cognitive stakes of literary fiction when it has to be a substitutive humanism or religion

Lataillade, Laurent de. „L' ironie du roman : stratégies et modalités au XXe siècle“. Bordeaux 3, 2011. https://hal.science/tel-04398495v1.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study reviews the idea, which is often expressed by critics, of a link between novel as a genre and irony, in speculating that modern and contemporary fiction reveals the underlying irony in any narrative (romance as well as novel) – his vis ironica. By giving up a clear message, and signifying something else than what it really says, the novel builds up as an overall ironic speech. This pre-existing irony modifies the narrative issues by determining a poetics of narrative inside which what is signified always exceeds what is narrated, and makes a paradoxical speech out of the fictional story, which puts all speeches to the test and might even contradict itself. Here, irony isn’t viewed as a rhetorical practice. More generally, it is considered as a philosophical standpoint that finds its origin in Socrates, and is put up to date by the post-Flaubert novelist. Its fictional use is analyzed from a philosophical and historical angle, and with stylistic and linguistic tools (pragmatic and semiotic), in order to stress the paradoxical process, by which it poetically plays with the speech significance. Therefore, the “novel crisis” which happened in the first half of the twentieth century can be explained by its natural change towards a poetics of irony. The rejection of what belonged to romance, in its broad sense, seems to be linked to the contamination of any narrative speech by irony, which leads the novel to investigate its limits and perhaps acknowledge its impossibility. From that point of view, will be examined writers whose recourse to novel in itself is already a sort of irony ; more specifically, these writers are Thomas Mann, Svevo, Joyce, Broch, Gombrowicz, Joseph Roth, Musil, Proust, Celine, and Beckett

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis research in contemporary literature studies South American narratives written in Spanish. After assessing various aspects of incest in novels and short stories, the ultimate aim of this investigation is to demonstrate that today's novelists criticize humanism, which they carry out a “disconstruction”, that they express the wrill think the relationship between man and interdict, disorder and inhumanity. Two main lines of deconstruction have been set up : the questioning both of moral schemes and of political concepts (such as “the individual”, “the social body”, “freedom”. . . ). Novels and short stories of : Allende, Arenas, Benedetti, Bioy Casares, Cortazar, Garcia Marquez, Eltit, Esquivel, Fuentes, Mastretta, Puig, Sabato, Vargas Llosa, Ocampo. The different aspects of incest demonstrate that all novelists worry about "struggle for recognizability" (Hegel). And, last but not least, that all novels and short stories point out a state of anxiety, of apprehension about identity, in south American Spanish countries and a mental inclination to question identity
Khaknegar, Moghadam Nahal. „La représentation de l'immigration dans le roman contemporain (roman occidental-roman iranien)“. Montpellier 3, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009MON30019.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSource of debate, sometimes disputes, causes for concern and above all, for important thematic and stylistic revival, the issue of immigration marked the end of twentieth century, both in the French literature and other cultures. Up to current time, the works of immigration and exile has been usually influenced by experience of their authors. They were incarnating not only the painful memory of a loss and identity crisis, but also engagement of an author who has adopted a new language. Nowadays, a new generation of writers seems to follow the same path. By means of three works, Journey of empty bottles of K. Abdolah, The beautiful things that heaven bears of D. Mengestu and Chicago of A. El Aswany, we have noticed that the contemporary literature of immigration has been reformed, especially by redefining of immigrant character’s identity. The individualism has been enhanced to the detriment of cultural belonging. The immigrant is now a cosmopolitan person who is placed at the crossroads of several cultures, while following his personal path of integration. The Iranian immigration novel, released from its political and social pressures, presents an original vision towards other literatures. Thanks to its meeting with different cultures, a better understanding of "human being" and particularly of the "Iranian" is incorporated in it

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn the 19thC, starting with Germany (E. T. A. Hoffmann) before spreading throughout the West, the double was so common as to attain of a literary cliché. In the 20thC, the double was still a lively figure, but in a radically different way : from its erstwhile rooting in the Fantastic of Romanticism, it took on a realist discursivity. The questions is posed regarding identity engendered new forms of narrative : the romantic short story gave way to long, openended texts in which narrative was displaced by the discursive. From the point of view of the present study, what could first appear to be no more than a theme becomes a poetics of the double. And while literary criticism has, to date, made much of the Romantic double, there has been no attempt to offer a synthetic vision of doubling in twentieth century literature, despite the fact that it is very different. Our study begins by laying down the characteristics of the romantic double, and making manifest the rupture opened up by Dostoevsky and Stevenson, before going on to develop the different attempts which were made to lay the figure to rest at the end of the romantic period : through a rationalist discourse with Freud, through a parody of the tradition with Nabokov, or through a declared absence of the motif in the work of Aragon. This diversity of intertextual responses makes it possible to offer a typology of doubling, based upon the four great Graeco-Roman myths of the double : Castor and Pollux, Sosia, Tiresias, and Narcissus. The last part of our study makes clear the narratological specificities of the figure of the modern double : a movement towards an internationalisation of the duplication, coupled with a decentring aesthetic underpinned by an incognito character and a lyrical narration. In conclusion, I underline - without intending any value judgement - the narcissistic content of the twentieth century double : Narcissus ousts Echo. The study terminates with the proposition of a glossary of the double
Monacelli-Faraut, Martine. „La tentation primitiviste dans le roman utopique anglais de 1872 à 1962“. Nice, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987NICE2021.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleAn enduring tradition of thought holds that man is naturally good and that he was meant to live in harmony and symbiosis with nature of which he is part and parcel. In the century when science opens prospects of infinite progress to man he still longs for a remote past and convinces himself that he should revert to a simpler way of life in order to achieve happiness. Many utopists wish the advent of a regenerated man, living in a purified environment transformed by the revival of handcraft and agriculture, capable of living in society without any political institutions. One will find that various legends and myths as well as the theories of influential thinkers have played a great part in the elaboration of the utopian projects. The anti-utopian novels display a similar fascination for this philosophy of history which leads us to think that the primitivistic temptation goes beyond the cult of nature and the past to answer a metaphysical quest which puzzles over man's place in the universe, his essence and his destiny

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe novel "Šowhar-e Âhu Xanom" ( the husband of Âhu Xanom) of Ali-Mohammad Afghâni describes the conditions of the Iranian woman in an Iranian town in the South of Iran (Kurdistan). The novel depicts the relations between the husband and his wife and shows the oppression of woman in a traditional society. Marriage is an important question depicted by the novelist in his town (Kerman Shah). Some important traditions of that traditional society are also depicted in the novel : polygamy and temporary marriage. The author shows their bad impact on the life of the Iranian woman

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleInfluenced by the epic , the Kadarian universe goes beyond the space/time frame of the novel in order to take on the fabric of the Greek tragedies. In Albania the worlds of oral tradition and that of writing still overlap, even in our modern world. The storyteller becomes writer, and the writer becomes storyteller. Following the example of those bards and storytellers whose work is anchored in the epic tradition, Kadaré gives us, through his constantly shifting writing, an oral litterature with an inspiration born of the epic tradition. In his fiction, story mixes with legend, and dreams with reality so as to capture all the better the essence of this epic world, a world whose roots are not only Greek, but also Albanian and Balkan. This study goes in search of the epic in a Kadarian universe built of stone and rain ; a timeless Kadarian universe which is spoken, listened to and looked at observed from all angles ; a Kadarian universe which is written down so that the epic inspiration can be protected

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present study treats narrative time in fiction, based on four novels: The Mission Box (Aris Alexandrou), Drifting Cities (Stratis Tsirkas), The Alexandria Quartet (Lawrence Durrell), In Search of Lost Time (Marcel Proust). In the first part we have a short presentation of the corpus, having set as an aim mainly to justify their presence in the same dissertation. In the second part we propose a synthetic and bilateral method of study. The latter consists of two types of analysis –narratological and hermeneutical. The first one (based mostly on Genette) reveals the image of time of narration, which arises from the narrative techniques. On the other hand the hermeneutical analysis, (based on Ricœur), examines the fictional temporal experience of the heroes and reveals the image of time in the narration. We juxtapose the two images of time: They are either concordant or discordant. There only remains to interpret their relation. For that to happen, we turn to the temporal paradox of narration, which sets the narration as the common place, where the past and the present are constantly en instance. The conclusions which we draw from the analysis (which took place in the third part) demonstrate a potential narrative time. During the analysis, mostly the narratological ones, we revise and we question the norms whenever the analysis demands it. And therefore the journey from time of narration to the time in the narration seems to be the safest route for the study of narrative time in fiction

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe thesis deals with one hundred and fifty novels written by some sixty christian french and jewish french authors born in Algeria or in France and others written by native intellectuals graduated from the French schools and "medersas" between 1898-1960. The abundant production of novels offers to the readers an authentic view of the different social, economical, political and cultural aspects of the different communities at that time. The jewish and christian French women writers were numerous to write during the inter war years (1920-1940), whereas, the muslim woman writer appeared on the literary scene later, after 1945. The first part introduces the authors and their works. The second part is devoted to the two Algerian schools : the Algerianism (1920-1935) and l'Ecole d'Alger (1935-1960). The third part tells about the social and historical context : it shows the characteristics of the different social communities observed by the authors. Finally, the fourth part concerns the analysis of the novels. The writers are both actors and observers. Their writings do reflect the stereotypes, but above all, a part of the sociocultural reality of colonial Algeria

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis dissertation, at the crossroads of the history of the Algerian Jews and the Algerian anticolonial movement, studies the trajectories of the minority of Algerian Jews who shared in the struggle against colonialism, during the period spanning the end of the First World War to their departure from an independent Algeria mostly at the end of the 1960s.The first part, coming before the actual biographical study, looks at the timeframe and reasons "the Jews" of colonial Algeria are considered to be a political entity by the administration and the political movements, and confronts this political discourse and these practices with the many political subjectivities that emerged among the Algerian Jewish population from 1930 to 1962.The second part introduces the actual biographical study and looks at the process of Algerian identification that the male and female study population is engaged in, men and women who grew up under a colonial world order definition and who developed a dissident attitude to that order, with the Vichy era appearing to be, in most cases, the clenching factor for this break. In this context, the Youth and Student Communist movements, from 1946 to 1954, are approached as hotbeds for a politically radical Algerianness and transgressive sociabilities in view of the colonial social order.Lastly, the third part focuses on the journeys of those militants during the Algerian War of independence and after, and highlights the conflict between the Algerian identities that emerged during the trials of the War for independence and the official version of a national identity the governing elite of the new State decided to impose in the first months followingindependence

Gontier, Anne. „La quête du père dans le roman au XXe siècle“. Paris 3, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002PA030024.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleUsing ten western novels of the 20th century, this Ph. D. Thesis demonstrates that "quest for the father" novels show recurring features. The seeker (the son or the daughter) who sets out to search for the father keeps rehearsing a family past in an enclosed and hostile space, marked by maternal dominance and the lack of paternal influence. Some of the characters encountered echo this family past; they are projections of the paternal "role" that the investigators imagine: the world of men is divided into "good fathers" and "bad fathers". The progress of the investigators takes them beyond this familiar universe. They are led to a more remote time and unsightly or unhinged secondary characters, and must face them. The encounter with death is the apogee of the confrontation with otherness. The investigators must inevitably face a very different father, an old and weak father, whom they themselves now dominate. This leads to a reversal of father and child roles. Finally, like in every quest, the investigators are transformed by their search: they become stronger when facing their father. .

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe novel for young people has evolved since the 80ies toward a rich and complex relationship between the authors and their readers, perceptible in literary works. The ambivalent functions which have defined for long the specific novel style for young people, i. E. To untertain and to educate, are questioned nowadays. The writers are anxious to get away from a too simplistic reading agreement and to commit themselves to a wider social and artistic search concerning a larger audience. Starting from the two main objectives which however persist unsaid ( and which corresponde to the srong expectations of those who publish and prescribe). The thesis studies how the authors modify the rules of this style for young through subtle compromises and determined transgressions in order to make their own voice heard. .
Cominetti, Philippe. „L'inspiration scientifique dans le roman post-naturaliste : du naturalisme français à la littérature japonaise du premier XXème siècle“. Bordeaux 3, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005BOR30005.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBy considering the way scientific elements are integrated in naturalist fiction, as well as in post-naturalist novels, this dissertation aims at defining the features of a textual norm ((the so-called "realistic-code")from the double point of view of poetics and ideology. With French texts as a starting point and a Japanese corpus (1895-1960) considered as a case study, transmission of French naturalism (Zola's theoretical discourse, and anatomical imagination) and development of scientific inspiration in the Japanse context of tremendous modernization -which implies enhanced presence of science and technical objects- shall be pondered. The first part deals with scientific inspiration in the naturalist context, where it is defined as dissemination (alteration of rationality, visualization, production of objects) and qualified as genesis of subsequents forms. These forms, examined in a second part along a historical perspective relate to texts progressively structured according to the "systemic organization of technical objects". In the third part, hermeneutical tools are provided for the previous description, leading to the hypothesis of a fetishistic structure of scientific inspiration. Beyond such a local interpretation of naturalism's outgrowth, it shall be possible to reconsider French and European Literature, thus providing insights about the nature of fiction in realist texts, and the correlation between the questions of science and the subject

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe central question of this thesis revolves around the analysis of the interaction between epistolary and novelistic forms and the didactic possibilities of this interaction in the context of teaching French as a foreign language. The relationship between text and context implies the study of the enunciation in the exposition scenes. The elaboration of the theory of “scenography” enables us to deal with thoughts, ideas, points of view, ideologies, etc. When they are presented in the epistolary form within the fictional context of the novel. The approach adopted here involves two analyses: the first is an analysis of discourse, inspired by pragmatic theories, which consist in studying the epistolary form as a discursive activity within which the enunciation cannot be dissociated from a system of communication; the second analysis, which is didactic, borrows from social sciences, which deals with the conflation of three elements : the text, the enunciator and the reader/learner. The improvised nature of the epistolary form enables the learner to write freely with the aim of communicating. Through a process of identification, the learner takes the place of the letter writer to enter the fictional universe of the novel and to recognise certain moral and cultural values in the target language. The dialogical, interactive and hyper-generic frame of the letter incites the reader/learner to accept a specific worldview of the author who is positioned in the literary field constituted as “social space”. Acceptance of this “authorial world” is dependent on the expectations and cultural baggage of the learner, those having been formed by his reading habits and the approaches to reading imposed by social norms

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe initial hypothesis is that a change of episteme, related to the one of the Darwinian biology (a smooth continuity facing Cuvier’s catastrophism) has modified the place of the event in the Occidental novel, from Flaubert and Melville on in particular, read as initiators. Rupture in the course of the world, the event was the beginning element of the fiction, which developed by neutralizing it through the codes of the novelistic ritualization of the XIXth century, realistic in particular. After the naturalism (the position of which on this point is very ambiguous), some authors of the XXth century have attempted to seize the event in a much more original way : as a mystical moment (Joyce’s epiphany, V. Woolf’s moment of being, Broch’s instant of unicity, an instant when the unessential life is escaped (Musil), an instant which abolishes Proust’s time), an event which loses all reason (Kafka), an event founder of the very writing (Sarraute, Beckett). All these paths meet in the particular case of the concentration literature : the saying of the catastrophic moment which is its essence can be only achieved in a radical present of the writing. It is true that a certain number of persistences can be noted, observed here in the adventure novel (London, Stevenson, Conrad, Malraux, confronted to Celine, Moravia, Perec), or of nostalgies, read here in the American novel linked to the myth of the Frontier (Boyle opposed to the Mexican Fuentes, Hawkes, Auster, DeLillo, Pynchon, up to the so specific case of Faulkner). In spite of these resistances, we can conclude that certain fictions of the XXth century have led to see in the event a major element of the rhythmics of the writing
Mächler, Tobar Ernesto. „Vision de l'Indien à travers le roman colombien du XXe siècle“. Paris 3, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1999PA030060.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe indigenous human being present in Latin American countries generates forcefully an ideological discourse from the point of view of the white man who detains political and ideological power. It is a discourse trough which the latter one attempts to justify and affirm his dominant position. This dissertation intends to understand the image this discourse conveys, as well as the concrete consequences it displays. Its first approach is analyzed through a study of colombian social thought from a historical point of view, that is, from the colombian access to political independence to present times. It traces the most important ideological influences, and, specifically, geographical determinism. It studies the indigenous collective action as a citizen belonging to the republic and to its life, its problems concerning the care of its soil as well as its cultural endeavours. A second approach is considered through an analysis of anthropological discourse, tracing its development specifically from the influence of french travellers to the new present scientific vision. It examines the catholic church's point of view and the changes it proposes concerning the indigenous problem. It takes into account the indian stand before colombian law and why this law is not applyed. It also takes into account four different readings taken from popular imagery. Its third and last approach focusses on the indigenous theme as it is treated in colombian twentieth century novel, its indigenous and indian tendencies, its antecedents, and its thematic manifestations. It concludes that the indigenous man is a despoliated, contemptible, and ignored human being, of which its most elemental realities are unknown. As such, he becomes invisible

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe neo-realism appeared in portugal during the thirties. It suffered several influences; among them we can cite the marxism, the spanish civil war, the american and bresilian literatures. It was thus a literary movement to denounce and to fight against fascism. It pretended to help the masses. That is why persons coming from poor classes constituted a collective group and became for the first time in portuguese letters the principal novels personages. The traditional society was principally the source of reference of neo-realist novels. Studing social relations in terms of class-war, the neo-realist writers reveal two different social categories : bourgeois in one part, and proletarians in the other. They try especially to show the exploitation and inequalities that lower class were suffering. They underline also the basic disturbs produced in the traditional ways of life after the penetration of industrial progress in rural places. In this field precisely, the difficulties of industrial proletariat are well explained. The personages become marginal and surrender. However the emergence of the positive hero indicates the proletarian consciousness and the message of hope

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe Goal of this project is the research of the universal sea novel. We engage therefore in a comparative study of several maritime literary works examining French, English, Arabic and Spanish literature through examples from V. Hugo, J. Conrad, E. Hemingway and H. Mina. The sea novels present several common and fundamental features, that traverse the sociocultural differences of their authors, as well as varying levels of literary talent. They form a genre of literature defined not only by thematic elements, but also by its style, its aesthetic concepts and a common philosophy of life. Aspects of mythology and metaphysics characterise the universal sea novel and a specific psychological profile typifies its characters. This study also highlights the inaptitude of the sea novel for ideological approaches. The sea novel is the product of a language that draws its power from man's primitive reverie and such profound psychic structures as the unconscious. This language spans the centuries and geographical zones for it translates the desires of both modern and archaic men

Would it mean more then, than what is seems to mean? would it say better, that one day i learnt that stendhal was a novel and not a novelist? that i wondered where it came from and where it was going to. Would it say better that, as it became a novel, stendhal got lost for ever for me. Would it say better that, reading aragon and then reading barres, reading a stendhal and its contrary, i could verify the reality of this loss? would it say better how, in balzac, i have seen the birth of the novel of stendhal? how i have seen zola refuse with all his strength to believe in this birth? how i have seen gracq, on the contrary, accept it entirely? would it say better how i have seen the novel of stendhal jeopardize valery and, almost at the same time, save aragon? would it say better how, after all, at the end of the novel of stendhal, i have discovered that there was only me? if it would like to summarize itself to grap itself, would stendhal roman mean more?
Merlo, Philippe. „Le roman historique de Terenci Moix : de l'histoire au mythe“. Saint-Etienne, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997STET2044.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe thesis studies Terenci Moix's six historical novels : Nuestro virgen de los martires, No digas que fue un sueno, El sueno de Alejandria, La herida de la esfinge, Venus Bonaparte, El amargo don de la belleza. The introduction traces the history of and tries to define the historical novel. It introduces the author - T. Moix - and exposes the dual issue underlying the thesis : the originality of the author in relation with the genre and the time of production and the writing of Moix's historical novels, i. E. The constant return to the sources and the unveiling of a genuine "Moixian" mythology. The thesis consists of three parts. The first one - corresponding to the first chapter - stresses the role played by historical novels where all the other genres tackled by Moix meet : the autobiography, the novel of manners about today's Spanish society, the bildungsroman. . . The next three chapters (part II) focus on time ( highlighting the return to the origins, the time of the origins, a cosmogonic time), space (with a mythical dimension in cities such as Paris, Rome, Alexandria, behind which there is Barcelona) and characters, including actantial ones such as love, solitude, death, who are in constant search of their identity. Through the analysis of the writing of historical fiction, the fifth chapter studies the relation between the story and history as well as the gap between them that humour and irony tend to widen. The last chapter first tackles the various intertexts (the cinema, the opera, the radio, history, egyptology, literatures. . . ) and myths (Isis, Osiris) which nurture fiction through memory and then, taking the reader's point of view, tries to explain the extraordinary success of Moix's "highbrow best-sellers" by studying identification, cultural mediation and seduction processes and stressing the part played by imagination. The procedure adopted is traditionally "narratological" but also semiotic, "mythodological" and includes theories about reception

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleSpanish fascist propaganda has relied on historical myths in order to legitimate the National-Catholic ideology of the regime. What have these myths become after Franco's death ? This thesis investigates the image of the Golden Age offered in Spanish historical novels written after 1975. Considering that the relationship between a literay text and ideology can only be grasped through a process of recontextualization, we offer an overview of several interpretations of the Golden Age itself, as those that can be found in the history of ideas, in the Spanish historical novel prior to 1975 and we also try to sketch a general picture of the social-historical context of postmodernity and postfranquism. We then examine in a sociological approach the vision transmitted by the paratext of sixty novels as well as by the interviews we conducted with about fifteen authors. Finally, we offer an analysis of six novels representative of the last quarter of the Twentieth Century

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleIn absence of academic studies on social history of the intellectual field, this essay is meant to be a sociohistorical analysis of the literary Saudi field, precisely of the novelistic sub-field. Starting from the premise of a Saudi autonomous literary field within an Arabic cultural whole (though picking out some parallels with other Arab countries, notably Egypt), the study of the external dynamics to this field (first part) describes the links that bind it to the political institution (chapter I), to the social mediators (chapter II) as well as to the foreign fields (chapter III). Nevertheless, the delimitation of the borders of the literary field seems impossible. The analysis of internal dynamics (second part) of the specific sub-field permit to establish at least on which criteria are based the writers and literature names. Through the normative descriptions that the field recognize and attempt to recognize by the social field, this essay adopts a second observation site of the stakes that develop in the field. From two complementary points of views - the novelists one (chapter I), then the novel analysts one (chapter II) – the analysis of the novelistic text bring to light the pregnance of a realistic plan, as well as an identity project closely involved in the writing. Lastly woman occupy a place more and more preponderant in that project as she enters in the text at once as character and as author (chapter III). The combination of these dynamics as they were describe defines the standards and values conveid into the literary field that shape the “legitimate literature”

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleBolivia, which is geographically, economically but mostly socially isolated (due to its mainly indian racial population composition) was bound to produce a socially engaged type of novel, resulting from a reflection on the racial problem, early century bolivian intellectuals discovered at the same time their own country and the indian, who is the perfect victim of geographical constraints and of the exploitation and oppression system founded on racial distinction. The indian figure, appearing like a product of the environment, is a determining factor in bolivian novels; he's at the same time the main literary subject and the "depersonalized actor" stemming from a dramatic cycle whose components are defined in advance. Bolivian novel is tightly dependant upon the dialectical link which is established from the relationship between the characters and the notion of space, knowing that every individual existence and every social position is conditioned by the possession or non-possession of land. Thus the social orientation which characterizes bolivian novel is made at the expense of the textual space and of the characters' active function. As a result their active function arises from an archetypal behaviour which is representative of mass action and the oppression scheme denounced, bolivian novel comes to maturity when it starts denying this omnipresent space and privileging the textual one, the representation of imagination and individual action, bolivian "nouveau roman" denies certain racial frontiers, not to replace the indian seen as an outcast, but to integrate him into a novelistic process enhancing individuality, a new step towards this novelistic and national search of identity

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis project pursues previous geographical research on literature. After critically analyzing the principal geographical studies of space in the novel, the author explores the possibility of establishing a new relationship between geography and the novel. Noting that geographers have used literature to increase the scope of their usual concerns, the author suggests a dialogical approach which considers the novel as a subject and not merely an object under analysis. This dialogical approach enables one to be in contact with that which only the novel can communicate about human space and place, and this without "exploiting" it. The analysis of some particular examples (Suskind, Dos Passos, Tournier and Gracq), opening a wide range of geographical considerations, draws the attention on different ways to conceive and write about human places

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe present study consists of a detalied analysis of the beginning of novels in a corpus of 20th century Arabic authors. These were selected with regard to their technical and thematic diversity. The study aims to answer to the following questions : What is the beginning of a novel ? What are, in terms of enunciation, the “priorities” in the beginning ? How does the beginnig proceed as a part of the whole narrative structure ? Are the main parts of the story announced in the beginning ? And if so how ? and finally: Are there any specific aspects in the beginnings of Arabic novels that are related to the culture from which they come ? Our approach is both from a discursive and a narrative angle where the follwoing has been taken into consideration : The three elements (Space, Time and Character); The relation between the beginning and the narrative of the rest of the novel; The possible relation between the beginning and the end of the novel; and, The way in which the beginning announces the underlying ideologies of the novel. This approach allowed us to deduce at the same time some common points and some divergences in the studied novels as well as detect a certain chronological evolution
Marras, Margherita. „L'insularité dans la littérature narrative sarde du XXe siècle“. Toulouse 2, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996TOU20050.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleInsular vision profoundly impregnates sardinian literature : in novels the island appears as a place that the author needs to relate to and to research, like the epicentre of an imaginary world, at the horizon of all the author's quests and desires. The island is the place where heros live, heros who never determined their history but who have been wounded by it : men (whose beliefs, obsessions and desires we know) profoundly marked by their marginal condition and the uncertainties of their land. "sardity", "sardisme", "sarditude" are direct and specific expressions of sardinia's insularity. They bring the writers of this region to light and are the basis of a literature endowed with its own motivations and autonomous with regard to any system. The sardinian novel's realistic connotation is filtered through the author himself in novels conceived as instruments to perpetuate historical memory, as a way of putting forward the specificity and the problems of the island. The insular representation in this literature is, however, also a way for the novelist to annonce his existential worries, which are characteristic of the sardinian man, and to carry out his insular reconquest whilst perpetrating the values and hence fundamental reality of his land
