Rice paper is a rice-based food product that is currently popular in various Asian countries. Brown rice has various advantages over white rice, it contains flavonoid (anthocyanins) as antioxidants and also brown rice has a high fiber. Porang flour is an alternative food that is low in fat and high in fiber. This research is a descriptive experimental research design that aims to analyze the organoleptic characteristics, acceptability, content of macronutrients and fiber of the innovative product of making red rice rice paper with porang flour substitution. This study uses 3 formulas, namely the addition of brown rice, (tapioca flour and porang flour with different levels). The experiment was repeated twice on the same 30 panelists. The three samples were tested proximately (carbohydrate, protein, fat, ash content, fiber content, and water content). The data were analyzed using the Friedman Test on the four indicators including color, aroma, taste, and texture the results is significance value (p = 0.0001) < (0.05) which can be interpreted as all indicators (color, aroma, texture, and taste) has a real difference. The conclusion of this study is that rice paper F3 has the highest average value (the most preferred formula for the general public panelists).

Abstract: In rice production industry as per the market demand, good quality rice evolution is very important in the present time. The factors for rice quality such as its whiteness, shape, milling degree, chalkiness, cracks and polish are the important factors for to evaluate the rice quality. Quality of rice becomes necessity nowadays for to defend the consumers from using sub standard products, the quality of rice is an important necessity. In the world population more than half people are the primary consumer of rice. It is one of the most important foods to provide energy, protein, essential vitamin and minerals, fiber grain, beneficial antioxidants, and carbohydrates. It is complicated by using the rice kernel manually for rice quality analysis because due to time consuming and having a chance for error with the bias of human perception. To overcome such issues and achieve the rice quality, the image processing technique has a wide scope. The main motive of this paper is to review different techniques that calculate the quality of rice using the image processing technique. The ricepaperplant pith is also known as Tetrapanax papyrine, Akebia, or tall gastrodia fruit, a kind of shrub or small tree of the Araliaceous. It is native to south China and Taiwan Prov., the raw material of rice paper. Extract its central tissue from the stem to make pith slices which could be made as the watercolor painting paper. It arose in Guangzhou in the 19th century, and the themes are mainly focused on reflecting the social life scenes as well as various characters in late Qing Dynasty, such as officials, soldiers, juggling, weaving, playing instrument, etc. The works are lively, vivid, and bright in colors. As the result of using western painting principles and reflecting Chinese local customs, rice paper watercolor paintings were admired by Westerners at that time. However, as pith paper is fragile, the size of painting was usually small and difficult to conserve, there are few works handed down in China. In recent years, the rice paper watercolor painting has attracted more and more concern, which is of great significance to the study of the development of early Western paintings in China.

Edible rice paper is used for making fresh summer rolls (salad rolls) or fried spring rolls in Vietnamese cuisine, where the rice paper is called bánh tráng or bánh đa nem. Ingredients of the food rice paper include white rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, and water. However, in this study, watermelon albedo pectin flour was added to the formulation. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of pectin flour and the effect of watermelon albedo pectin addition on the physicochemical characteristics of rice paper. The addition of pectin flour can produce a product that is elastic, not easily torn, and translucent. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with the research factor being the concentration of watermelon albedo pectin flour which consisted of 6 experimental levels and 4 replications. The concentrations of pectin used were 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1%, 1.25%, and 1.5%. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (analysis of variance) and continued with duncan multiple range test (DMRT) at the level of 5%. The variables tested were water content, water activity and rehydration power. Based on the results of this study the addition of watermelon albedo pectin flour on rice paper as much as 1.25% was the best treatment, this was because the water content produced about 11.38% and the rehydration power about 233.27%. There was an increase in water content and water activity, but a decrease in rehydration power, however, the water content test showed that the pectin concentration had no significant effect on the physicochemical characteristics of rice paper. So that the concentration of watermelon albedo pectin only affects the water activity and rehydration power of rice paper. Keywords: pectin, rice paper, watermelon albedo

Abstract Cellulose nanofibers isolated from unbleached pulp are characterized by different surface properties due to presence of lignin at their surface, in addition to lower cost than isolated from bleached pulp. In the current work, the effect of cellulose nanofibers isolated from unbleached neutral sulfite and bleached soda rice straw pulps (so called UBCNF and BCNF) on improving paper sheet properties of unbleached and bleached rice straw pulp (so called UBP and BP) was studied. The effect on mechanical properties (tensile strength, burst strength, and tearing resistance) and physical properties (porosity and water vapor permeability) was studied. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to assist in explaining the obtained results. The result showed that using BCNF and BP resulted in better improvement in mechanical properties and also more effective in reducing porosity of paper sheets than in case of using UBCNF and UBP. These results indicated stronger bonding between nanofibers and pulps’ fibers in case of using BCNF and BP (surfaces rich in cellulose hydroxyl groups) than in case of UBCNF and UBP (surfaces rich in lignin). Water vapor permeability of paper sheets made from unbleached or bleached pulps did not significantly affect by the addition the nanofibers.

Cooking oil was necessary of household to used when processed food ingridients. Waste cooking oil was contained free radicals can potentially oxidize organs. This problem overcome with rice straw and waste of pineapple which waste cooking oil was recycled by them. The utilization cellulose component on rice straw and waste of pineapple as natural active carbon can helped this problem. The absoption of subtances in waste cooking oil used paper from rice straw which heat together with Na2SO3 solvent while grinding processed with waste of pineapple to made pulp.

Rice is one of the most abundant food crops in the world and its straw stands as an important source of fibres both from an economic and an environmental point of view. Pulp characterization is of special relevance in works involving alternative raw materials, since pulp properties are closely linked to the quality of the final product. One of the analytical techniques that can be used in pulp characterization is near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The use of NIRS has economic and technical advantages over conventional techniques. This paper aims to discuss the convenience of using NIRS to predict Kappa number in rice straw pulps produced under different conditions. We found that the resulting Kappa number can be acceptably estimated by NIRS, as the errors obtained with that method are similar to those found for other techniques.

The rice production process produces a by-product called rice agricultural waste, namely rice straw. Rice straws in huge quantities can be used to manufacture various products such as paper, art paper, decor boards, and paintings. Processing rice straw waste can increase the value-selling of the product and reduce environmental pollution. Rice straw can be found in Padang City, especially around the location of the Padang State Development Agricultural Vocational High School. It causes the buildup of rice straw waste at several points around the school. This activity aimed to provide knowledge to the students regarding using rice straw waste as valuable products. The method was counselling and training the students. The results of this activity showed their high enthusiasm for producing paper products, decorative boards, and paintings from rice straw waste.

Rice production in Brazil in 2010 was approximately 12,2 million tons, and to reach that amount several planting techniques were used with different strains of rice in different rice-growing areas. Since Rice Husk Ash (RHA) is the pozzolan of vegetable origin most studied by researchers working in the area of pozzolanic materials, the present paper evaluates the influence that the form of planting, the climate, the soil, the strain of rice and the origin/amount of nitrogen-based fertilizers used in rice cultivation has on the chemical composition and crystallographic properties of RHA. The results obtained in this paper, confirm the importance of carrying out routine chemical analysis and X-Ray diffraction to maintain the quality control of the CCAs produced, because in situations of large-scale production, husks of different origins may be used.

Texture analysis plays an important role in image processing. In the field of texture analysis, the regular texture has been studied a lot, but the natural texture with complex backgrounds is less studied. This paper brings texture analysis into the study of rice paper's classification. First of all it shows the processing flow chart of rice paper classification. By comparing the different kinds of texture analysis methods it chooses the LAWS texture method and uncertainty texture spectrum method to achieve the rice paper classification. When it uses the two texture analysis methods separately, the classification accuracy of rice paper is lower, so it tries to combine the two texture analysis methods. The experimental results show that the classification result got with two combined texture analysis methods is better than that got with one single texture analysis method. The classification accuracy of rice paper has been distinctly improved after the combination of the two texture analysis methods.

The study aimed to describe the alkaline treatment advantage to remove ash component from natural rice straws. Most of the ash component in the rice straw is silica. High ash content is particularly harmful to cutting tools and to chemical to recovery systems in the pulp paper industry. In this study, the silica content has been removed simply through by immersion process in the 5% sodium hydroxide solution to obtain de-silicated rice straw. The study revealed the effectiveness of this alkaline process and the compatibility in commercial practice. The rice straw pulping is considered competitively to complement the global demand of raw material in paper production. Therefore, the treated rice straw plays an important role in providing raw material in the form of wood and rice straw blend feedstock for pulp and paper industry.

The purpose of this work was to detect carbendazim mixtures wrapped in paper. Unlike previous reports of THz-TDS for detecting pesticide residue, this work focused on detecting pesticide residue in packaged foods. Different weight ratios of carbendazim in polyethylene and in rice powder were detected qualitatively and quantitatively. Results show that pure carbendazim, polyethylene, and rice powder can be easily distinguished from each other. However, when the weight ratio was low, the absorbance of the mixture was similar with that of pure polyethylene and rice powder. With the help of SVM, carbendazim could be qualitatively detected in low weight ratio mixture successfully. Moreover, PLS and SVR were selected to quantitatively detect carbendazim mixtures. SVR has higher R and lower RMSECV, RMSEC, and RMSEP than PLS model. Lasty, the results also indicate that THz-TDS is a potential tool to detect pesticide residue in packaged foods qualitatively and quantitatively.

To improve the utilization rate of pineapple leaf and crop straw, and provide technical support for making biodegradable fiber mulch paper through organic cultivation, the process and properties of the degradable fiber mulch paper made from pineapple leaf and rice straw were studied. The degradable fiber mulch paper was prepared as a hybrid composite in which pineapple leaf fiber and rice straw fiber were used as raw materials, and environmentally friendly agents were added. A four-factor five-level quadratic orthogonal rotation central composite design of the response surface method was employed. The beating degree of pineapple leaf fiber, basis weight, addition ratio of pineapple leaf fiber, and wet strength agent content were process parameters; dry tension strength, wet tension strength, and bursting strength were objective functions. The optimal technology parameters of pineapple leaf and rice straw fiber mulch paper were 70 to 90 g/m2 basis weight of pineapple leaf fiber, 17% to 25% addition ratio of pineapple leaf fiber, 55 °SR beating degree, and 1.5% wet strength agent content. According to the tensile strength and bursting strength standards, the degradable fiber mulch paper made from pineapple leaf and rice straw was feasible. The results provide theoretical basis and technical support to use pineapple leaves and rice straw to make degradable mulch paper.

The impact of paper mill effluent irrigation along with soil amendments (FYM, composted coir waste, pressmud and lime + FYM) on the yield, nutrient content and their uptake in rice was studied in an acid and a neutral soil of Thambirabarani river tract. Effluent irrigation resulted in an increase in the Ca and Na contents and a decrease in the K content of rice grain and straw in both the soils. The N content of the grain and straw showed an increase for the effluent irrigation in neutral soils and a decrease in acid soil. A marked reduction in the total N and K uptake as well as the grain and straw yield of rice under the effluent irrigation treatments was recorded in both the soils. Effluent irrigation decreased the Ca uptake of rice in neutral soil and increased the Na uptake in acid soil. The soil amendments had a favourable effecton the P and K uptake of rice in acid soil. The use of 50% diluted clarified effluent was found superior to raw effluent irrigation more particularly in neutral soil. The adverse effect of raw effluent irrigation was more in neutral soil compared to acid soil. Application of composted coir waste improved the grain yield of rice when raw effluent was used for irrigation in neutral soil.
