The service of video rental is going through a transition moment due to the change in media and also the growing tendency of movies piracy. The conjunctures related to the segment impose to the video rental stores a new manner to see the relationship with customer, with employees and with suppliers. The transposition of this period of crisis can be accomplished by the implementation of the relationship marketing as a philosophy. Based on this presumption, the research analyzed comparatively the relationship marketing actions already implemented by the video rental stores, with emphasis in what is dimensioned for the consumer market, internal client market and suppliers market. The link of Peck et al (1999) perspectives with the relationships idealized by Gummesson (2005) composite a theorical model which shaped the structure of relationships regard as the market evaluated. Considering the customer s market, it was observed that a significant fraction of external clients judge themselves as loyal to video rental stores. However, they only attribute this to the concept of the first alternative and not necessarily in a comportment of exclusivity. Besides this posture, the majority of the rental customers would be willing to recommend the rental company to others. The managers of video rental companies implement more promotional actions directed to the immediate increase of the sales volume and do not preserve a longlasting relationship with the client. For these companies, the differentiated treatment given to the old clients is driven by an informal manner, result of a long term interaction that creates friendship links among public and employees. To the managers, the foundation for the differentiation of the rental company is the service. According to the movies representatives, the relationship between video rental companies and suppliers is characterized by the insufficient understanding of the managers regarding their clients. The relations between video rental companies and the employees were positively evaluated in a manner that even the internal clients, that consider themselves without autonomy, are satisfied with the position occupied. The conclusions of this study highlight that the other markets of Peck et al (1999) should be considered taking into account that it interfere directly in the level of competitiveness of the companies
O serviço de videolocação passa por um momento de transição em virtude da mudança de mídia e da crescente ameaça da pirataria de filmes. As conjunturas relativas ao segmento impõem às videolocadoras uma nova forma de encarar o relacionamento com o consumidor, com os funcionários e com os fornecedores. A transposição deste período de crise pode pautar-se pela implementação do marketing de relacionamento como uma filosofia e é a partir deste pressuposto que a pesquisa propôs-se a analisar comparativamente as ações de marketing de relacionamento já implementadas pelas videolocadoras, atribuindo ênfase ao que é dimensionado para o mercado de consumidores, para o mercado de clientes internos e para o mercado de fornecedores. A união das perspectivas de Peck et al (1999) com os relacionamentos vislumbrados por Gummesson (2005) compôs um modelo teórico que traçou patamares de relações conforme o mercado avaliado. No que se refere ao mercado de consumidores, observou-se que significativa parcela de clientes externos se intitulam fiéis à videolocadora, todavia apenas a atribuem o conceito da primeira alternativa e não necessariamente de exclusividade. Apesar deste posicionamento, a maioria dos locatários se apresenta disposto a recomendar a empresa de videolocação para terceiros. Os gestores das videolocadoras, por sua vez, implementam mais ações promocionais direcionadas ao aumento imediato do volume de vendas e não com o escopo da construção de um relacionamento duradouro com o cliente. Para estes, o tratamento diferenciado para os clientes antigos se dá de maneira informal, resultado da interação de longa data que acarreta vínculos de amizade entre público e funcionários. Para os gestores, os alicerce da diferenciação da videolocadora é o atendimento. Percepção esta reforçada pela classificação positiva dos consumidores acerca do atendimento dispensado pelos funcionários. O relacionamento entre a videolocadora e os fornecedores se pontua pelo insuficiente conhecimento do gestor acerca de sua clientelas, segundo os representantes de filmes. As relações entre a videolocadora e os funcionários foram avaliadas positivamente ao passo que mesmo os clientes internos que se consideram sem autonomia, entendem-se satisfeitos com a função que exercem. As conclusões do estudo ressaltam que os demais mercados de Peck et al (1999),devem ser considerados tendo em vista que interferem diretamente no nível de competitividade das empresas foco do trabalho

Finding a boot that fits comfortably in a ski rental shop can be a difficult and tedious task for many people. Having properly fitting boots is important to prevent injuries in the user and reduce the risk of accidents happening on the mountain. The goal of this master thesis was to develop a tool that could make it easier for the customers in a ski rental shop to find the right boot for them. This was done by first sending out surveys to students at LTU and Swedish rental stores and interviewing rental store staff. It was found that a lot of the students don’t want to take the time to properly test their boots in the shop and that the staff don’t feel like they have the time to properly measure and fit every customer with a proper set of boots. It was theorised that making the measuring of the foot easier, faster, and more thorough would increase the chances of customers finding the right set of boots. The measurements that need to be taken for a proper boot matching to be made were found to be foot length, foot width, instep height, and calf volume. Through a design process combining a convergent/divergent and an iterative phase a tool that can take these measurements was designed and developed. The tool is a sock with built in stretch sensors that align themselves on the user’s foot in the correct places as the user puts on the sock. With a microcontroller the sock takes the measurements and sends them wirelessly to a screen that is placed in the store making it easy for the user to read the measurements. On the screen the user can also see what boot they are recommended to rent based on the measurements and book them directly on the screen.

By investigating Yanjiao and Beijing sub-centre, on both sides of the Chaobai River, it reveals that today more than 40% of the population in Yanjiao travels to and from Beijing for work.  Because of the inequities of political and administrative systems, as well as massive and uncontrolled urbanization, Yanjiao is losing its identity gradually.  Comparing Yanjiao with Beijing Sub-centre on the urban configuration, building typology, topography, and hydrology, the conclusion is that there are: 1) traditional small-scale allays and buildings, 2) significant unidirectional commuter flow to Beijing, and 3) the Chaobai River is not only the administrative boundary but also the development boundary between the two cities. To optimize this situation, three different levels of planning and design have been made:1.Regional planning: To improve the sustainable development situation of Yanjiao through inter-regional synergistic development, while creating more equal urban spaces with a water-based landscape structure. 2.Urban Design: By extracting the traditional urban morphology, local lifestyles, three primary interventions have been created for the design part. Through these three interfaces, the site links the surrounding urban space with a good spatial transition.3.Detailed design: Intervention and feeling of spatial qualities are shown through the rendering of the three interfaces.

Introduction: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the standard stone treatment. Increased excretion of tubular enzymes and hypercalciuria has been reported after ESWL. We investigated the importance of renally induced hypercalciuria after ESWL. Material and Methods: 30 calcium oxalate stoneformers (23 men, 7 women), mean age 53.3 (range 30–71) years, were evaluated prospectively. Plasma calcium and creatinine concentrations and 8-hour overnight urine were measured before ESWL and on the 1st and 2nd days after ESWL. To estimate the changes of tubular reabsorption, the calcium/creatinine clearance ratios were calculated. Results: Hypercalciuria (>5 mmol/24 h) was seen in 5/30 (16.7%) before, in 12/30 (40.0%) on day 1 and in 13/30 (43.3%) on day 2 after ESWL. The mean plasma levels of calcium were significantly decreased from 2.36 mmol/l before to 2.28 mmol/l on day 2 after ESWL (p< 0.01). The mean calcium/creatinine clearance ratio was significantly increased from 0.012 before to 0.019 after ESWL (p< 0.01). Before and on day 2 after ESWL, the calcium/creatinine clearance ratio was significantly correlated with the age of the patients (r = 0.33, p< 0.04). Conclusion: Our data show an age-related significantly increased urine calcium excretion after ESWL possibly due to decreased tubular calcium reabsorption

Urolithiasis is a condition known to Man for centuries, which once established, frequently pursues a recurring course. This might suggest a chronic underlying abnormality yet often no definite predisposing cause is found. Abnormalities in the urine, serum or renal histology of stone-forming patients are claimed by some to be aetiologically important while others continue to dispute this. This thesis comprises a review of previous work, an account of a prospective study carried out by the author on a group of stone formers to address this problem and a discussion of the results obtained. Prior to the advent of an extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy service (ESWL) in Scotland in 1986, most kidney stones were treated by percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCN). This procedure provided an ideal opportunity to biopsy the kidney allowing renal histology and the degree of microscopic renal calcification to be assessed and compared with control material. The biopsy findings of individual patients were considered in relation to subsequent serum and urinary biochemical data. As the relative importance of various urinary risk factors pertaining to stone formation remains controversial, assessment of 24hr urine excretion of Calcium, Urate, Oxalate, Citrate and Creatinine, serum concentrations of Urea, Creatinine, Calcium and Urate and blood gas analyses were also undertaken in this group of stone formers. A group of non-stoneforming adult out-patients acted as controls. Statistical analysis of all data was performed comparing the study group results both with our own controls as well as with other series. This has allowed us to form conclusions about the process of stone formation and to develop a plan for the rational investigation and management of patients presenting with urinary tract calculi in this area.

Over the past century the study of gas exchange rates between the atmosphere and the ocean has received increased attention because of concern about the fate of greenhouse gases such as CO2 released into the atmosphere. Of interest is the oceanic uptake of CO2 in shallow water coastal regions as biological productivity in these regions is on average about three times larger than in the open ocean. It is well-known that in the absence of breaking surface waves, the water side turbulence controls gas transfer of sparingly soluble gases such as CO2 from the air to the water. The dependence of gas transfer on wind-driven shear turbulence and convection turbulence generated by surface cooling has been investigated previously by others. However, the effect of Langmuir turbulence generated by wave-current interaction has not been investigated before. More specifically, Langmuir turbulence is generated by the interaction of the wind-driven shear current with the Stokes drift velocity induced by surface gravity waves. In this dissertation, large-eddy simulations (LES) of wind-driven shallow water flows with Langmuir turbulence have been conducted and scalar transport and surface scalar transfer dynamics analyzed. The scalar represents the concentration of a dissolved gas such as CO2 in the water. In flows with Langmuir turbulence, the largest scales of the turbulence consist of full-depth Langmuir circulation (LC), parallel downwind-elongated, counter-rotating vortices acting as a secondary structure to the mean flow. LES guided by the full-depth LC field measurements of Gargett & Wells (2007) shows that Langmuir turbulence plays a major role in determining scalar transport throughout the entire water column and scalar transfer at the surface. Langmuir turbulence affects scalar transport and its surface transfer through 1. the full-depth homogenizing action of the large scale LC and 2. the near-surface vertical turbulence intensity induced by the Stokes drift velocity shear. Two key parameters controlling the extent of these two mechanisms are the dominant wavelength (λ) of the surface waves generating the turbulence and the turbulent Langmuir number, Lat , which is inversely proportional to wave forcing relative to wind forcing. Furthermore, LES representative of the field measurements of Gargett et al. (2004) shows that Langmuir turbulence increases transfer velocity (a measure of mass transfer efficiency across the air-water interface) dramatically with respect to shear-dominated turbulence. Finally, direct resolution of the surface mass transfer boundary layer allows for the LES to serve as a testing ground for bulk parameterizations of transfer velocity. Several wellestablished parameterizations are tested and a new parameterization based on Stokes drift velocity shear is proposed leading to encouraging results.

Novos formatos de loja surgem constantemente. Estimulados por diferentes aspectos de seu ambiente de negócios, os varejistas estão sempre inovando em seus formatos para atrair mais consumidores, atender melhor seu público, para superar a concorrência ou ainda aproveitar vantagens decorrentes do avanço da tecnologia. A estratégia traçada pelo varejista está diretamente relacionada com o formato da loja. Este formato, por sua vez, é resultado da oferta do composto mercadológico – características básicas deste varejista utilizadas para satisfazer as necessidades dos consumidores. A diversidade de formatos e de estratégias dos varejistas de confecção é grande. Apesar desta variedade, não foi encontrada na literatura uma classificação única, consensual e amplamente aceita, nem uma descrição destes formatos. Devido ao grande potencial do mercado de baixa renda aliado à importância econômica do varejo de vestuário, este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar como as empresas varejistas de confecção estão organizadas em relação ao seu formato, isto é, em relação às variáveis do seu composto mercadológico (produto, preço, apresentação, pessoal, promoção e localização). Assim, este trabalho pretende derivar empiricamente uma taxonomia dos formatos varejistas com base no composto mercadológico das lojas por meio de uma análise de agrupamentos. Os resultados apontam para a existência de quatro grupos atuando no segmento de confecção para baixa renda: Amadoras, Barateiras, Especializadas e Consolidadas. As principais características dos grupos são detalhadas neste trabalho. São apresentadas também as diferenças e semelhanças entre eles. Os grupos aparentam estágios distintos no seu desenvolvimento estratégico. De maneira especulativa é possível identificar um caminho evolutivo entre estes grupos de lojas.
New retail formats emerge constantly. Driven by different factors of their business environment, retailers are always evolving their formats to keep and attract costumers, to overcome the competitors or to benefit from the technology development. The strategy outlined by the retailer is directly related to the store format. This format, in turn, is the result of the retail mix offering – the retailer basic characteristics that are established to satisfy the consumers' needs. There are many different formats in the apparel retail segment. Despite that, it was not found in the literature one single, accepted and consensual classification for these formats. Given the great potential of the low income segment and the economic importance of the apparel retail business, the objective of this research is to investigate how apparel retailers develop their formats and organize their retail marketing mix (product, price, presentation, people, promotion and placement). This investigation is focused on a taxonomic analysis of retail formats based on the stores' retail mix, using a cluster analysis. The results indicate four store groups in the low income apparel retail segment: Non Professional, Cheap, Specialty and Professional. The main characteristics of the groups are detailed in this study. It is also presented the differences and similarities among the groups. These groups are apparently in different stages of strategic development. Speculations are raised about the way these groups of retail formats evolve.

Este trabalho tem como propósito contribuir com a literatura por meio de uma pesquisa voltada ao estudo das relações entre os mercados de renda fixa e renda variável no Brasil. Sob essa ótica, o objetivo dessa pesquisa é realizar uma análise por meio de modelos econométricos para explorar a relação entre investimento de renda fixa e renda variável, e como estes são alocados em determinados momentos da economia, seja em tempos de instabilidade econômica ou em tempos relativamente estáveis. Para isso será utilizado um banco de dados, contendo informações com índices, informações financeiras que contribuam na construção deste trabalho, bem como a utilização de modelagem econométrica para a construção de parâmetros que sirvam de apoio para evidenciar os principais resultados deste estudo que, por sua vez, visa afirmar que em tempos de crise os investidores tendem a ter comportamentos mais conservadores em comparação a períodos de certo equilíbrio econômico. Os principais resultados da pesquisa foi a transferência dos ativos de renda variável para renda fixa, demonstrando que em situação de tensão na economia os investidores de fato se tornam mais avesso ao risco.
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the literature through a research focused on the study of the relationships between fixed income and variable income markets in Brazil. From this perspective, the objective of this research is to perform an analysis through econometric models to explore the relationship between fixed income investment and variable income, and how these are allocated at certain moments of the economy, either in times of economic instability or in times relatively stable. For this purpose, a database will be used, containing information with indexes, financial information that contribute to the construction of this work, as well as the use of econometric modeling for the construction of parameters that serve as evidence to support the main results of this research that, due to its time, it aims to affirm that in times of crisis investors tend to have more conservative behavior compared to periods of certain economic equilibrium. The main results of the research were the transfer of assets from variable income to fixed income, demonstrating that in a situation of tension in the economy, investors do indeed become more risk averse.

Des cellules souches neurales (CSN) persistent dans le cerveau adulte et produisent des neurones et des cellules gliales tout au long de la vie de l’individu. Les CSN suscitent un intérêt considérable pour la médecine régénératrice mais leur utilisation thérapeutique potentielle nécessite au préalable d’approfondir les connaissances sur leurs mécanismes de régulation. Les glioblastomes, quant à eux, sont les tumeurs cérébrales les plus fréquentes chez l’adulte et les plus mortelles. Au sein de ces tumeurs, les cellules souches de glioblastomes (CSG) seraient issues de la transformation maligne des CSN et seraient responsable de l’initiation, de la propagation et de la résistance aux traitements des tumeurs. Des analyses transcriptomiques ont suggéré un rôle majeur de la signalisation calcique au sein des CSN et des CSG. Représentant une des voies principales d’entrée du calcium dans la cellule, les canaux calciques SOC (Store-Operated Channels) régulent de nombreux processus cellulaires, y compris la progression tumorale. L’objectif des travaux de cette thèse est d’évaluer le rôle des SOC dans les CSN et les CSG.Nous avons établi par des approches in vitro et in vivo, que les CSN de souris adulte expriment des SOC fonctionnels et que leur inhibition pharmacologique diminue la prolifération et l’autorenouvellement des CSN, propriété indispensable au maintien de la population souche. La deuxième partie de nos travaux montre que les CSG issues de cultures primaires de patients expriment des SOC dont l’inhibition altère la prolifération et l’autorenouvellement de ces cellules.Ainsi, les résultats obtenus lors de cette thèse mettent en évidence un rôle essentiel des SOC dans la régulation de l’autorenouvellement des CSN et des CSG. Les CSG étant responsables de la résistance aux traitements dans le glioblastome, ces travaux ouvrent des perspectives thérapeutiques ciblant les canaux calciques pour contrer cette pathologie au pronostic sombre
Neural stem cells (NSC) persist in the brain of adult mammals and fuel the brain with new neurons and glial cells all lifelong. Recruited by brain injuries, NSC are considered with great interest by regenerative medicine. However, the development of new therapeutic approaches based on the use of NSC requires an in-depth knowledge of the mechanism regulating these cells. Glioblastomas are the most frequent and deadliest form of adult brain tumors. Within the tumor, glioblastoma stem cells (GSC) form a subpopulation of cells that is considered as responsible of tumor initiation, propagation and relapse, as these cells are particularly resistant to anti-tumoral treatments. GSC and NSC share key characteristics and numerous studies suggest that GSC arise from transformed NSC. Transcriptomic analysis of NSC and of GSC revealed an enrichment of calcium signaling transcripts in these two cell populations. Representing a major way of calcium influx into cells, Store-Operated Channels (SOC) are mobilized in response to a wide range of extracellular factors. SOC regulate many cellular processes and are often hijacked in cancer to promote tumor progression.The aim of this thesis is to evaluate potential SOC involvement in NSC and GSC regulation.The first part of this work, relying on in vitro and in vivo studies, demonstrates that NSC from adult mice express functional SOC whose inhibition by pharmacological agents reduces NSC proliferation and self-renewal. In the second part of this thesis, we demonstrate that GSC from primary cultures derived from patients express SOC, as do NSC, and that SOC inhibition reduces GSC ability to proliferate and self-renew.Accordingly, the results of this thesis demonstrate that SOC regulate NSC and GSC self-renewal, a property that is essential to maintain stem cells pool. As GSC are responsible for glioblastomas treatment resistance, our studies point to a potential new therapeutic way, via calcium channels, against this deadly pathology

Alors que la démolition tend à s'imposer au sein de l'intervention publique sur le parc HLM des années 1950-1970, ce mode d'action commence aussi à être utilisé en réponse aux problèmes rencontrés par des tours et des barres en copropriété. On peut cependant se demander si les difficultés d'un grand ensemble en copropriété sont assimilables à celles d'un grand ensemble HLM et si la démolition ne prend pas un sens différent dans ce contexte particulier. Pour répondre à ces questions, cette thèse étudie l'une des premières copropriétés des trente glorieuses qui a fait l'objet d'une action publique et de démolitions : Les Bosquets à Clichy-sous-Bois/Montfermeil (93). En explorant l'histoire de cet ensemble immobilier, cette recherche montre que les problèmes qu'il a connus sont propres au statut juridique de la copropriété. Ils sont principalement dus à des difficultés de gestion, liées aux financements publics qui sont à l'origine de sa construction, à la conjoncture immobilière dans laquelle il a été livré et à des malfaçons juridiques. Or, cette dimension propre à la gestion n'a pas été prise en compte au sein de l'intervention publique déployée sur ce site depuis 1981. Celle-ci a transposé à la copropriété les schémas cognitifs et normatifs appliqués aux ensembles HLM de même typologie architecturale et urbaine. Privilégiant la démolition, les restructurations du bâti et la diversification du peuplement, l'action publique a aggravé les déséquilibres de gestion de la copropriété. Le relogement a constitué un nouveau facteur de fragilisation des trajectoires des ménages – en particulier des propriétaires occupants – déjà fortement pénalisés par les difficultés de la copropriété
While demolition of public rental housing projects from the 1960s and 1970s is an obvious public intervention nowadays, we are starting to witness a similar handling of condominium tower blocks. However, one may ask whether similar interventions for these two different housing types lead to different outcomes. To answer these questions, this thesis analyses one of the first condominium project from the Trente Glorieuses period (1945-1975) that was the target of such intervention : Les Bosquets located in Clichy sous Bois/Montfermeil (a Parisian suburb). Looking at the history of that housing complex, this research shows that the problems relate to the legal status of the joint ownership. These problems arose from management difficulties linked to the public financing that has permitted its construction, to the real estate circumstances of its delivery, and to juridical defects. It appears that this management dimension wasn't considered by the public intervention implemented at that site since 1981. Cognitive and normative patterns originally applied to moderate rental estates with similar architectural and urban typology were simply transferred to the condominium. Favouring demolition, redevelopments of the building, and diversification of residents, public interventions have aggravated imbalances in the management of the condominium. Rehousing has also participated in the weakening of the residential itineraries of the households (especially owner occupiers) already strongly penalised by the condominium's difficulties

Este trabalho estuda o diferencial de retorno entre fundos de ações com benchmark em índices de renda fixa e fundos de ações com benchmark em índices de renda variável. A escolha de um índice de renda fixa como benchmark para um FIA, em média tende a ser pior para o cotista, pois gera um potencial de ganho financeiro para o gestor não associado ao real valor por ele criado. Portanto, como a remuneração dos gestores através da taxa de performance depende em parte do benchmark escolhido, fundos com benchmark em renda fixa deveriam apresentar melhores desempenhos a fim de compensarem seus cotistas por este custo. Os resultados encontrados sugerem que os gestores de fundos com benchmark em renda fixa obtêm um retorno líquido de taxas de performance e administração superior para seus cotistas e também apresentam uma menor correlação com o Índice Bovespa.
This paper analyses the difference between returns of equities funds that have fixed-income index as benchmark and equities funds that have stocks index as benchmark. The choice of a fixed-income index as benchmark for an equities fund on average tends to be worst for the investor as it creates a potential financial recompense for the fund manager that is not associated with its performance. So, as fund managers performance-fee remuneration depends on the chosen benchmark, funds with fixed-income benchmark should feature better performances to compensate their investors for this cost. The results suggests that fixed-income benchmark funds managers shows better liquid of taxes returns and lower correlation with Bovespa Index.

With the continuous progress of science and technology, Taiwanese people's income is growing. People's standard of living is improving gradually and thus making the type of consuming to change gradually, with amusement and recreation becoming essential in their lives. The rental video chain stores will become a great business opportunity, and a lot of business men will obtain profit from it. Because of this, it is worth probing into what video rental chain store's key success factors are. Main focus in this study include specific aims listed as below, 1. To review and manipulate the literatures which chain stores and key successful factor. 2. To make use of analytical hierarchy process(AHP) to the analysis study in priority for the KSF. 3. The results can provide strategy and a resources allocation reference for rental video chain store's existing enterprises and for potential business ventures in the future. This research utilizes on analytic hierarchy process and finds out key success factors for rental video chain stores from literature review and expert's opinions, and by then using questionnaires to investigate current proprietors. According to the results of the study, “the ability of human resources management” is the most important factor which to manage rental video chain stores at present. This research also generalizes other priorities of key success factors of managing rental video chain stores: factor of economic prosperity, factor of integrity of law, factor of the ability of marketing management, factor of business model of chain system, and factor of degree of vertical integration.

Tainan City is the birthplace of Taiwanese culture. It also has the longest history among many cities in Taiwan. It has the most historical sties in Taiwan, and is also rich in natural tourist resources. Cycling is a popular activity in recent years. People start to accept bicycle tourism because bicycle lanes were set up in many cities, also because living in a style of the consideration of low-carbon consuming and environmental protection. Tainan City has established part of bike lanes. All the bicycle lanes will become a road network connecting city and beach. Furthermore, the product service system is one concept, which will transform the service into the product and increase the value of the product. Object of this research is a leisure bicycle rental shop, planning a series of visual recognition, and referring to the product service system analysis result, and creating unique value of the brand. The creation content includes: Basic system, administration application system and environment indicating system, as well as product service practical application. The research expects that the successful brand image will be established by unification CIS and the product service, and provide the city visitor better service.

Melamine, a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic triazine compound, is an important material in chemical engineering. Because of its high nitrogen content, it has been illegally added into milk and other protein products, thus resulting in food safety issues. A recent epidemic study of melamine contamination of baby formula milk powder in China has been associated with the development of urinary tract stones, though the clinical manifestations, disease mechanism, and predisposing factors are incompletely understood. The approval of this study was annually reviewed by the institutional review board (IRB) of National Yang-Ming University Hospital. We have screened 436 people (200 females and 236 males) from September to October in 2008. Total 388 people under 18 years old (162 girls and 226 boys) were enrolled in our investigation and under thorough history taking including feeding history, symptoms and signs of nephrolithiasis, urinalysis and ultrasonography of kidney. Though all were asymptomatic, some were screened by abnormal findings of ultrasonography. A total of 45 children with melamine exposure history were suspected with nephrolithiasis with prevalence of 11.6%. Boys are obviously dominant than girls. The patients were classified into one control group with negative findings and three groups with different ultrasonographic hyperechogenic findings and its size included: patch or stone (>7mm), nodule (4-7mm), and foci (<4mm). The abnormal ultrasonographic findings were essentially found on both kidneys (77.3%). Urinalysis results show that there was a significant difference in occult blood. Patch/stone/nodule (>4mm) group is correlated with high melamine exposure, while Foci (<4mm) group is correlated with low melamine exposure. 23 of the patients were called back for follow-up in 2011 and found that stones and urinalysis results from these patients are not improved. Furthermore, we used proteomic technologies to analyze urinary samples from 3 groups: patch or stone (>7mm), nodule (4-7mm), and foci (<4mm). Samples were analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and image analysis by Prodigy SameSpots software. Nine protein spots significantly altered (at least 2-fold change) were subjected to LC-ESI Q-TOF MS/MS analysis and were identified by Mascot program as mannan-binding lectin serine protease 2, beta-2-microglobulin, Ig kappa light chain C-region, basement membrane-specific heparin sulfate proteoglycan core protein and vesicular integral membrane protein VIP36. We thereby concluded that the melamine-induced renal stones and nephropathy may be attributed to damages in the basement membrane of renal tubules and glomeruli.

They analyzes customer’s behavior to find the key point of the factors of repurchase. So the study hope to find the factors of repurchase by Customer’s satisfaction, Change cost, Brand image and Competition attraction. The research is focus on the general customers on rental book store, but have two part sampling. One is random sample and another is non-random sample. Use Customer’s satisfaction, Change cost, Brand image and Competition attraction four aspect to set up the hypothesis, and by Lisrel to datum analysis and annotation the hypothesis. The conclusion is the quality of service isn’t positive with repurchase behavior, but the quality of product is positive with it and the Brand image is also positive with the repurchase behavior.

Urban renewal issues of Chinatown in West central district Tainan City area continue for over 10 years. 105 years Tainan City Government identify that use the segment levy development mode and combine canal area as the main development direction, but there are still a small number of residents opposing. The main reasons include that residents refuse to leave their original homes, expropriation compensation price is too low, you can't change land after the collection, you can't choose buildings, and so on. Therefore the study focuses on except segment levy development mode, whether urban renewal rights transformation way is feasible or not, and choose the financial plan for the main study content. The development land of urban renewal area is more complicated than the general land. It needs detail consideration for the cost of land, building construction costs, volume reward, building plan, development time, the amount of own funds, loan amount, sold price and so on, so that avoid investment losses by the misjudges. This study discusses the major implementation of urban renewal subject is private sector in this industry. The main principle seeks for the profit maximization, and analyzes the investment returns of the urban renewal for land owners and implementers. The study time focuses on the later stages of urban renewal, analyzes net profit, ROI, NPV in financial plan. Finally, analyze the investment returns by sensitivity analysis, whether recommends the present case study is feasible or not. Furthermore, the study doesn't research the development benefit of public sector.

Universities are no longer just an academic institution to the local area, the society and the nation in the advent of the era of knowledge based economy. They now play the role of social service as well and are expected to spearhead the development of local areas. The establishment of a university, however, does more than spark fast urbanization; it further affects the overall development in the local area. Roads and streets near it become major bands of commercial acitivities and give rise to massive crowd and business opportunity, where most of the stores exist in the types of the liking or needs of the students. In addition, as commercial activities begin rapidly in the areas surrounding a university, which brings them crowd and business opportunity, the development or declining of the neighboring business areas is hastened, forcing these business areas to face the dilemma of reconstruction. The Yule St. of Tainan City, which lies at the back of Tainan Railway Station, is both a commercially thriving area and a major business area near National Cheng Kung University. Considerable business potential and abundant resources of humanity landscape make it significant. However, its poor business environment cannot match the development of literary and educational facility any more. Hence, this study is hoped to investigate in the obstacles that await the reconstruction of Yule St. and propose ideas of reconstruction, to increase shopping environment for consumers and living quality for the local residents, to tackle the present problems like poor business facilities, troubled traffic, insufficient public facilities and too old buildings. The present research is a case study on the Yule St. using questionnaire survey to understand the intention of the businesses in the area under study to participate in business area reconstruction. This study also proposes ideas about organizational operation, spatial build, marketing and promotion, and management, as well as creates an executive mechanism and operational framework for the university and the neighboring business areas, which are hoped to serve as reference and ercommendations in business area reconstruction. Our conclusions and recommendations are as follows: 1. Holistic planning and strategies should be available for business area reconstruction. 2. Universities should be active in participating in their neighboring business area reconstruction. 3. Business area reconstruction should combine subsidies in urban renewal. 4. The corporate status should be given to and secured for each shopping district management board.

With the gradual improvement of medical standards and the improved living environment, Taiwan’s population structure has gradually headed towards the aging society or even ultra-aging, leading to the gradual infiltration of chronic diseases. Gallstones and kidney stones are both today’s common public health problems. Modern people lead a busy lifestyle, resulting in disrupted daily routine, lack of exercise, and failure to take meals regularly. In addition, the increasingly westernized diet pattern and excessive intake of high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar foods have resulted in a gradual rise in gallstone incidence rates. Gallstones and kidney stones both fall under the stone disease category and share common risk factors. However, researches exploring the connection between the two remain scarce.   In this study, patients with gallstones from the database of an anonymous medical institution were adopted as research participants. Through literature reviews and interviews with physicians, the important factors contributing to increased risk of gallstone disease were screened. Through the use of algorithm in artificial intelligence such as particle swarm optimization algorithm, genetic logistic regression algorithm, and cross entropy algorithm, the factor weights were calculated. The back propagation neural network and support vector machine were conjunctively employed to construct six prediction models and three case-based reasoning systems in order to evaluate whether patients with gallstones are at risk of future gallstones in the future.   Research results show that after the Friedman’s test, the six predictive models showed no significant differences and are all suitable as predictive models for research. The models all reached 89% average test accuracy, and the area under the ROC curve was above 0.85. For the three case-based reasoning system models, although the model of particle swarm optimization algorithm with 89.01% accuracy and 0.894 area under the ROC curve was better, the test results of the three models show no significant differences, making them suitable for calculating the weight of the case-based reasoning assessment system.

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes and safety of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) in the management of large renal stones (15-50 mm). Materials and methods: Data from patients with large renal stones (≥15 mm) who underwent RIRS was analyzed. Patients had pre-operative blood and urine analysis, urine cultures and imaging investigations. Post-operative stone-free state was defined as a complete absence of stones or stones ≤4 mm in imaging studies. Intra-operatory and post-operatory complications were registered and classified according to the Clavien-Dindo Classification. Results: 36 patients were included, 6 of which were operated twice resulting in 42 procedures analyzed. 57.1% of the procedures were done in men and 42.9% in women with a mean age of 56.5 years. Mean hospital stay duration was 1.27 days. Stone burden ranged from 15 to 50 mm (median 18.0). Overall stone-free rate was 54.8%. Overall complication rate was 9.3% with 1 intra-operative complication and 3 cases of post-operative mild febrile UTI. Conclusions: RIRS is an effective and safe procedure in the treatment of large renal stones (15-50mm) due to its good SFR with low complication rate, short hospital stay, virtually no bleeding and the possibility of further procedures without adding morbidity.
Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia e segurança da Cirurgia Intrarenal Retrograda no tratamento de grandes cálculos renais (15-50 mm). Materiais e métodos: Foram analisados dados de doentes com grandes cálculos renais (≥15 mm) submetidos a Cirurgia Intrarenal Retrograda. Análises de sangue e urina, uroculturas e estudos imagiológicos foram realizados no período pré-operatório. Stone-free foi definido como ausência de cálculos ou cálculos ≤4 mm em exames de imagem. Foram registadas as complicações intra e pós-operatórias, classificadas de acordo com a Classificação de Clavien-Dindo. Resultados: Foram incluídos 36 doentes, dos quais 6 foram intervencionados duas vezes resultando no estudo de 42 procedimentos. 57.1% dos procedimentos foram feitos em homens e 42.9% em mulheres, sendo a idade média de 56.5 anos. A duração de internamento teve uma média de 1.27 dias. A dimensão inicial dos cálculos variou entre 15 e 50 mm (mediana 18.0). A taxa de stone-free foi de 54.8% obtendo-se uma taxa de complicações de 9.3%. Foi registada 1 complicação intra-operatória e 3 casos de infeção do trato urinário. Conclusões: A Cirurgia Intrarenal Retrograda é uma opção eficaz e segura no tratamento de grandes cálculos renais (15-50 mm), dada a sua taxa de sucesso associada à baixa taxa de complicações, curta duração de internamento, virtualmente nula hemorragia e à possibilidade de intervenções subsequentes sem acrescentar morbilidade.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is frequently described as a chronic illness. It is also a life-threatening illness, although this is rarely discussed. When people with CKD face declining kidney function, they need technological assistance to extend life. Many people receiving treatment will also die within 5 years. The experience of living with CKD is often difficult to articulate, and little is known about the aspects of this illness that are often ineffable, difficult to discuss, or beyond words. The purpose of this dissertation is to present four papers in which I investigate the concept of the unsayable and illuminate how this concept may be helpful in exploring individuals’ stories of living with CKD. Located in social constructionism, this narrative research explores the unsayable aspects of experience for people living with CKD as portrayed through their stories and symbols. In the first paper, I present a concept analysis of the unsayable and I define the unsayable as that which is not expressed yet alluded to through language and may be conscious or unconscious. Although the unsayable is intertwined with language, it also transcends articulation. In the second paper, I offer a qualitative meta-synthesis and I show how people with kidney failure have experienced restricted freedom that brings about distant connection, dependent autonomy, abnormal normalcy, and uncertain hope. In the third paper, I present a narrative inquiry using secondary analysis of 46 interviews conducted over 3 years with 14 people living with CKD. Narrative expressions of the unsayable include the following: living with death, embodied experiences that were difficult to language, that which was unthinkable, unknowable mystery, and that which was untold / unheard. Lastly, I offer a narrative visual analysis of symbols that represent living with CKD for 13 participants. Descriptive themes of the symbols include hopes and inspirations, reflections on “who I am,” and confrontations of illness. Participants’ expressions through symbols are described through stories of memories, emotions, and poetic devices. Consideration of the unsayable may offer insights for nurses who work to support individuals and promote quality of life for those living with this chronic and life-threatening illness.

In recent years, a great number of cases of fire at the leased student studio and sublet room are learned to occur mostly at apartment buildings lower than 5-storey. The main purpose of this study is that we hope to click if the leased studio and sublet room at apartment building lower than 5-storey can be included in safety management check, and further increase the item of fire evacuation and safety performance verification manual for calculation. The Taipei City Government has stipulated “Safety Management Checklist for the Strengthening of Legitimate Buildings Partitioned into Several Studio and Sublet Room for Leasing in Taipei City.” To enhance the safety of living environment, landlord whose household that has been partitioned into 5 or more studios (sublet rooms) with flammable materials for lease must upgrade fire evacuation and facilities as well as fire-fighting equipment. In this study, the space of studio and sublet room is defined as the living room space, and the room of fire is designated at the living room, while the decoration material is reckoned to be of 2nd class fire-resistant materials. Then, the evacuation formula with the floor for evacuation is used to verify calculation, and the figures of calculation parameters are changed with space of rental studio and sublet room being input for computation so that we can have designed the sequence checklist of verification formula unique of rental studio and sublet room. Further, safety checklist is taken as the premise condition, using existing case to carry out analysis. Through verification analysis, we can then appreciate the factors of risk. This study will make use of rental studio and sublet room at apartment lower than 5-story to conduct results analysis of safety management and put forth the improvement plan that they are not cleared of the check, while the improvement plan should base on the existent layout of the apartment. Next, reasons that have easily failed the check are then filed after the cases have been verified. Finally, recommendations for safety management checklist are submitted for rental studio and sublet room in view of apartment buildings lower than 5-store. Actually, it is learned from the study that the main reason for case verification should fail easily is that the door-leaf in the room is not smoke-insulation door, or regular general building door not equipped with smoke-insulation bar, so that which it should cause the smoke to quickly flow from the fire to corridor. As for improvement measure, it is to replace the door-leaf with building door at least to withstand the fire door for 15 minutes and install a smoke-insulation bar to enhance smoke-blocking effect. This study has further eliminated factor of arson as the walkway is not public space and so no objects can be placed. Therefore, the walkway is designated as non-fire space, while every door from the living room to the walkway are reckoned as crucial factors. As such, the door-leaf should be kept closed from time to time so as to effectively isolate the smoke flow and help every to evacuate safely.

There Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is the most effective and common practice for the treatment of renal calculi. Even though this type of treatment has been available for many years, it is far away from an optimal state, because breathing induces movement onto the abdominal organs. For this reason shock waves hit not only the kidney stone but also other healthy tissue, resulting in damage on damaging the kidney and other organs. Moreover, the rate for recurrence of stone is increased since fragments remained in the kidney due to incomplete treatment. Previous research has presented an improved method that can follow the movement of the kidney and move the shock wave generator accordingly so that all shock waves hit the kidney stone. The disadvantage of this method is that the ultrasound imaging that was used for the tracking is two dimensional. Therefore the system does not have the ability to follow a three dimensional kidney stone path at all times. This fact makes the system difficult to be accepted by the majority of medical technicians. The research presented here uses registration of the ultrasound images with a three dimensional image acquired at the beginning of the treatment in order to overcome existing problems. Measurements with phantom are estimated for improving the effectiveness of the proposed method. This research is an attempt to produce a system that will be more acceptable for medical technicians.

The case is according to the convenient chain store Hi-Life “Hi Instant Photofinishing Service Project” to describe the executive processes about cross-industrial cooperation, strategic alliance among Hi-Life International Co., Ltd., Sony Taiwan Limited and UFIRST Tech Co., Ltd. three companies. How to practice “The Four Actions Framework (Eliminate, Reduce, Create, Raise) of Blue Ocean Strategy in their project planning to provide an new business model that integrated service, technology with sales channel, to get beyond the red ocean of intense competition among the digital photofinishing industry then going toward the blue ocean of value innovation. UFIRST Tech Co., Ltd. is a company for researching and developing about the image output devices as well as the image processing software. It is concentrating on how to provide an image printing service as the unmanned stores, self-service by a photo kiosk at the front line. And providing a value-added website “iMage” as the backstage for membership enjoying on-line image file access, editing and authorization function as well as remote photo printing service. Furthermore, it combined Sony digital photo printer with the state-of-the-art technology of dye sublimation printing, also drawn support from Sony’s brand image showing the slogan of “Print by Sony” for emphasizing the best quality. Then it went a step further to accomplish the strategic alliance with Hi-Life. Installed the photo kiosks at the convenient chain stores, started the business operation in a very short time. The sales channel of digital photo printing service could be expanded rapidly. Eventually it assembled three kinds of enterprise resource to achieve the service innovation of “Instant Photofinishing Service” in convenient chain store. The case is in accordance with the essences of Blue Ocean Strategy, the book published in 2005 and written by W. Chan Kim and Ren&;eacute;e Mauborgne. It is a case study about how enterprises consider and practice the Four Actions Framework to get beyond competition for creating and capturing blue oceans. The other topics for further discussing in management science are regarding strategic alliance, business model and service innovation.

Newark, New Jersey has endured large scale depopulation from 1930 through to 2000. Today the urban core of this city suffers from great social and cultural segregation between residents and daytime visiting populations who work in the city. To be reclaimed as a residential zone, the downtown core needs spaces that foster community interaction and growth. An opportunely sited, mixed-use community centre that encourages spontaneous encounters by cross-programming spaces and events could provide a safe place for residents to start reasserting neighbourhood ownership. By reclaiming the historically important, yet long empty, Hahne and Co. department store, the centre would acknowledge the homegrown success and decline of Newark’s past while turning the building into a supporting structure for the community to use in building a new future together. This thesis explores issues of adaptive re-use, programmatic diversity, community centre design and urban renewal.

In the last twenty years. The economic growth of Taiwan kept on prosperity that produced the mass demand of service industry. It promoted the success of the burgeoning type of retailing that established the good infrastructure for the Chain and Distribution Industry. In hence, the type of Chain Industry has been accepted by the Taiwan enterprises gradually. In 1996, the 3C(Computer, Communication, Consumer Electronics) Chain Mall had been established increasingly. Nevertheless, The 3C products’ life cycle is short and markdown pricing is great. This kind of characteristic causes the difficulty of understanding of Consumers’ behavior. That try to grasp the mall’s evaluation of consumers (store image) has become an important indicator for Malls’ managers. This study aims at two different types of Chain Malls (Wholly Owned 3C Chain Mall and Shop-rented 3C Chain Mall) that exist in Taiwan. Try to understand those differences of store image and the influence of population statistics variables and life style. This sampling study is based on the consumers of 3C Chain Malls in Great Taipei Area, including Taipei city and Taipei County. Then the data is analyzed by the statistical method to verify fourteen hypotheses. The result shows as followings: 1.Consumers from different types of Chain Malls have almost same importance of attributes of store image. But there are difference between importance and satisfaction of attributes of store image. 2.Consumers form different types of Chain Malls has difference population statistics variables and life style. 3.To plan the marketing strategy, marketers could focus on the specific life style to enhance the store image of 3C Chain Malls.

Along with the continuous innovation and development of chain convenience stores in the recent years, franchisees have a lot of doubts on whether the factors of the business performance at the franchise store, the relationship marketing of the franchising headquarters, and turnover of employees affect multi-franchising or contract renewal. The headquarters of the convenience store implement rapid business expansion to enhance the market share through chain franchising and multi-franchising in order to achieve the best economies of scale. The research believes the relationship marketing of convenience store headquarters, business performance of the retail store, and employee turnover at the retail store are the important factors affecting franchisees’ multi-franchising and intention of contract renewal. Based on this, the research uses three constructs to explore the impact on multi-franchising and intention of contract renewal. The method of questionnaire was used for the investigation of the research and 166 valid questionnaires were collected to explore the recognition and impact of headquarters relationship marketing, business performance at the retail store, and employee turnover at the retails on the research variables of franchisees’ multi-franchising and intention of contract renewal. In addition, descriptive statistics, reliability and validity analysis, variance analysis, and hypothesis verification were conducted on the samples collected. The main empirical results of the research reveal the headquarter relationship marketing has positive effect towards the business performance at the franchise store, franchisees’ multi-franchising intention and intention of contract renewal. The business performance at the retail store has positive effect on franchisees’ multi-franchising intention and intention of contract renewal. The franchisees’ multi-franchising intention has positive effect on the intention of contract renewal. The business performance at the retail store has mediating effect towards franchise headquarter relationship marketing, franchisees’ multi-franchising intention, and the intention of contract renewal. In the end, the research proposed conclusion and suggestions according to the results of the research as the reference in the relevant areas for the franchisees of the chain convenience stores, franchise headquarters, and future researchers.

Nesta tese de mestrado utilizamos um conjunto de dados relativos a estabelecimentos comerciais para analisar a complexidade económica de um grande Centro Comercial onde existem várias lojas que estão muito próximas entre si. Colocar um grande número de lojas num mesmo local permite ao consumidor economizar tempo e gera também uma rede complexa de externalidades e incentivos entre os lojistas e o mall developer. Os Centros Comerciais planificados têm geralmente vários tipos de lojas, nomeadamente as chamadas lojas-âncora, e vários retalhistas especializados que comercializam bens e serviços diversos e em geral substitutos. Os consumidores estão a par da qualidade e dos preços das lojas âncora e os Centros Comerciais não só lhes oferecem a possibilidade de conhecer produtos de outros retalhistas, como lhes permitem desta forma, economizar tempo e dinheiro. Nesta lógica, a colocação de ambos os tipos de estabelecimentos comerciais possuem benefícios mútuos. Este trabalho analisa o impacto das lojas-âncora no desempenho e resultados dos Centros Comerciais, e nos custos e desempenho das outras lojas. A análise empírica demonstra que uma maior presença de âncoras num centro comercial tem influência directa no aumento das vendas e, consequentemente, dos preços de arrendamento das outras lojas existentes no Centro Comercial em questão. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que as lojas-âncora aumentam o poder de atracção da clientela medido pelo número de pessoas que visita o Centro Comercial num dado momento, mas também que ultimamente, elas têm um menor impacto nas vendas por visitante.
This master thesis uses a unique data of mall store contracts in order to study the complex economic issue that arises when stores are placed together within a large shopping centre. Bringing a large number of stores together in a single location, economize on consumer search costs and create a complicated web of externalities and incentive issues between store owners and mall developer. Planned shopping centres usually have few department stores, as called anchor stores and multiple specialized retailers selling substitutable commodities in each commodity category. Consumers are aware of the quality and prices of the anchor’s commodities. Shopping centres give them the opportunity to learn about other retailer’s commodities, economizing their costly search and in this way collocation of both store types have mutual benefits. This thesis examines the impact of the anchor stores on the performance and results of the shopping centres and on the charges of the other stores. The empirical analysis shows that a greater presence of anchors in a mall directly increases the sales, and consequently the rents of non-anchor stores in a mall. We demonstrate that externalities are internalized by an efficient allocation of space and incentives across stores. We also show that they increase the customer drawing power measured as the number of people who visited the mall in a specific moment of time but lately they have a smaller impact on the sales per each person that visits the centre.

This particular telling and retelling from a living narrative inquiry (Clandinin & Connelly, 2000) into the early experiences of three high school science teachers – Beth, Joel, and Christina – explores the emergent inquiry landscapes constructed as we implemented a renewed, decolonizing, science curriculum in Saskatchewan founded on a philosophy of inquiry and on a broader, more holistic definition of scientific literacy, both Western and Indigenous. This inquiry draws on an ontology of lived experience (Dewey, 1938) and, more subtly, on the borderland of narrative inquiry and complexity science in order to illustrate the emergence and coming to knowing (Delandshire, 2002; Ermine, as cited in Aikenhead, 2002) of our identities in a way that avoids the reduction in complexity of our experiences. While my initial wonders persisted throughout the research as I lived alongside Beth, Joel, and Christina for two years, they diffracted into the contextualized wonder: how do we share a philosophy of inquiry with each other and with our students? As such, this inquiry is a sharing about our own identities, about our own agency, about identity work, and about which experiences we choose to (re)engage with as we attempt to (re)find the narrative diversity, both individual and collective, necessary to shift from enacted identities to 'wished-we-could-enact' identities. This exploration of our 'mo(u)rning stories', early experiences from our shifting identities after stepping through the liminal and onto emergent inquiry landscapes, or our 'stories to relive with' provides a language and context to our shifting identities and hence, to science education, as we move towards a more holistic and humanistic form of scientific literacy for all our students. What emerged through the enmeshing of our landscapes and through the construction of voids in existing practices, followed by deformalizations in assessment and planning, was the development of a way of sharing our philosophy of inquiry and hence, our shifting identities. The artifacting and sharing of our contextualized inquiry experiences highlighted the rich assessment making, and curriculum making experiences (Huber, Murphy & Clandinin, 2011) we shared with our students and highlighted a view of assessment as a relationship. As we told and retold our stories to relive with, our identities shifted towards those more akin to facilitator and anthropologist and away from sage and engineer/architect.
