Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe author presents the problem of a lack of emotional and spiritual well-being in pastors and Christian leaders who minister in the Metropolitan District and The Christian and Missionary Alliance. In this study, he evaluated the intervention: Leader Life (SDI) Training, first recruiting 100 participants who completed the training, then using the Leader Life Evaluation Survey to measure whether Leader Life increased the self-understanding, strengthened the soul identity, and improved the relational management of participants. He interviewed nine participants and searched for indicators of emotional and spiritual development. The author discovered Leader Life (SDI) Training is an effective tool to develop Christian leaders, and offered ministry recommendations.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis study examined the relationship between school leaders’ self-reported levels of emotional intelligence and teacher perceptions of school climate in K–12 Catholic schools in Indiana. This study built upon the findings of a mixed-method study by Juma (2013) that was limited in scope and generalizability, and examined the relationship between a principal’s perceived emotional intelligence and teacher perceptions of school climate. The current study used a quantitative methodological approach and a larger sample size to enhance understanding of the relationship between school leaders’ perceptions of emotional intelligence and teacher perceptions of school climate. The Emotional Intelligence Quotient 2.0 (EQ-i 2.0) and the Organizational Climate Questionnaire (OCQ) were completed by 200 teachers and 30 school leaders in 30 K–12 Catholic schools in Indiana. This study did not find a significant relationship between a school leader’s perceived level of emotional intelligence and teacher’s perceived school climate. Prior research on these variables has been inconclusive. This study adds to the body of research examining the possible connection between a school leader’s emotional intelligence and school climate.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis dissertation illuminates trust in new subordinate—leader relationships arising from mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in multicultural emerging economies. A large body of researchers has probed the notorious M&A failure rate of over 50%. Complexity and uncertainty characterize post-acquisition integration including for the personnel. Trust is a key success factor. Building on research into the cultural perspective of M&As, three related essays address a knowledge gap in trust and cultural dynamics when integrating firms with multicultural personnel. Essay 1 develops a theoretical framework of multicultural acquired-firm subordinate trust in foreign acquirer leaders, based on ethnic or religious similarity. The M&A concept of multiculturalism is combined with self-categorization and similarity-attraction theories to explicate how subordinates alleviate integration uncertainty to develop trust. Essay 2 tests religious (dis)similarity—trust hypotheses from this framework, moderated by three acquisition-specific factors. Policy-capturing data from 411 multifaith Malaysian personnel demonstrates the nuanced role of religion as a catalyst (constraint) of trust in cross-border M&As. Essay 3 examines the cultural and trust dynamics in two case studies, comparing a domestic Malaysian acquisition and a South African—Malaysian acquisition. Abductive analysis of 35 interviews of acquirer and acquired-firm personnel reveals that managerial boundary spanning facilitated subordinate—leader trust development. Paradoxically, integrating the domestic rather than cross-border acquisition was more complex when within-country religious diversity and linguistic diversity are considered

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleENGLISH ABSTRACT: Religion plays a significant role in the structuring of people's identities and perceptions and also has the potential to playa fundamental role to determine how communities respond to HIV/AIDS. Faith-based organisations are respected in their communities and have existing resources, structures and systems in place. People who are diagnosed with HIV often turn to the church where they receive emotional and spiritual support. The primary objective of this study was to determine the knowledge of religious leaders about HIV/AIDS and their attitudes towards people living with it. A non-experimental quantitative research design was used in this study and the data was gathered through a structured questionnaire. The respondents were not exceptionally informed about the transmission of the HI-virus, but their knowledge around the risk of specific sexual behaviour was high and their attitudes towards PLHA generally positive.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe dynamic discourse between religion and public life is illustrated in South Africa in both the pre- and post-apartheid eras. Specifically, this relationship is manifested in the lives of a number of individuals who straddled both facets of society. This thesis centres on a social analysis of the journeys undertaken by thirteen men and women who held Christian faith and political commitment in each hand as the New South Africa emerged from the Old. In-depth interviews were conducted with all subjects using qualitative research methods based on an oral history approach. Subjects were asked to consider their faith identities and the ways in which their faith directed their involvement in the public arena.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThis dissertation proposed a quantitative research design to determine if there was a relationship between Wesleyan ministerial education and ministerial effectiveness as measured by the Ministerial Effectiveness Inventory (MEI), an instrument validated in the Church of the Nazarene and United Methodist Church, and used in ministerial effectiveness studies throughout denominations in North America. A survey was sent to ordained senior/solo pastors in the North American Wesleyan Church who have been in service at their local church for at least three years. Participants were asked to take a self -rated MEI, and a sample of the members of their board completed the other-rated MEI. The Wesleyan Church has multiple programs of study that lead to ordination, including seminary, college/university, and adult education programs. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) found a statistically significant difference between the MEI scores of pastoral leaders who had completed adult education and those who completed college.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleTaiwan and Korea have been categorized in the same cluster of Confucian and hierarchical cultures. However, Korean missionary pastors in Taiwan experience significant cross-cultural differences that directly affect the effectiveness of their leadership among Taiwanese congregants.
This study discloses the four factors contributing to the effectiveness of select Korean missionary pastors: (a) personal traits, (b) interaction on cross-cultural issues, (c) trust, and (d) spirituality. Working as a whole, four key factors result in a four-fold transformation of leadership: (a) leaders responded to cross-cultural encounters with cognitive discernment, (b) which resulted in movement from authoritarian to servant leadership, (c) which fostered trust among followers, (d) which resulted in movement from servant to transformational leadership.
The theory in this study on the effectiveness of cross-cultural leaders in Taiwanese context is derived from the ground theory study using in-depth semi-structured interviews, and participant observation.

to analyze the association between self-reported voice disorder (VD), voice handicap and Burnout Syndrome in religious leaders and workers of a Pentecostal Christian church. Method: this is a cross-sectional, descriptive study that has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee at PUCSP and had the participation of 197 subjects of both genders, above 18 years of age. Data collection was conducted at the Assembleia de Deus Pentecostal Christian Church of the city of Sorocaba/SP, between the months of April and May, 2014. The following instruments were used: a questionnaire in order to survey socio-demographic data and the religious leaders work situation; the Screening Index for Voice Disorder (SIVD); Voice Handicap Index (VHI 10) and the Malasch Burnout Inventory (MBI).The latter is divided into the three following dimensions: Emotional Exhaustion (EE), Depersonalization (DP) and Personal Accomplishment (PA). The data were typed and analyzed (SPSS version 17.0 for Windows), according to their absolute and relative frequencies, central tendency and dispersion measurements. The chi-square test, as well as binary univariate and multivariate logistic models were used in order to verify the association between the independent variables (socio-demographic and work situation data, VHI and MBI) with the VD outcome (stratified into without VD < 4 and with VD ≥5 ). Results: of the 197 subjects, most are male (77.2%), with mean age of 43.4 years (sd=11.1), married (88.4%), with High School education (56.6%), with another professional activity besides ministry (73,1%), with a mean time in the job of 7.5 years (sd=7.6). Concerning the SIVD, 40.1% had a chance of developing VD (SIVD). The VHI 10 was divided into four quartiles, and the results were: 1st quartile (values 0) = 50 (25.4%); 2nd quartile (1 to 3) = 53 (26.9%); 3rd quartile (4 to 6) =46 (23.3%); and 4th quartile (≥ 7) = 48 (24.4%). Religious workers and leaders in the 3rd and 4th quartiles had chance of possibly having a VD when compared to the subjects in the 1st quartile of, respectively, OR=2.59 (p=0.041) and OR=5.82 (p<0.001). Regarding the MBI, for EE and DP dimensions, most religious subjects had low levels, respectively 69.5% and 54.3%, and 44.7% high degree for PA, although none was associated to the variable VD. Concerning age, the religious subjects who were 44 or older had a chance (OR = 1.99; p=0.041) of having VD when compared to younger religious subjects. Being single has also proved an independent factor for VD (OR=4.08; p=0.014), adjusted by the Burnout exhaustion variable. Conclusion: In this study conducted with 197 Christian religious individuals who work in different areas in the church, there was association between the presence of a possible voice disorder and self-reported voice handicap, where the increase in handicap was proportional to the chance of having a disorder. There was no association between the presence of a possible voice disorder and Burnout syndrome. In the logistic regression analysis the possible presence of voice disorder was more likely present among the eldest and single individuals

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of writing Catalyzing Soul Care Mentoring Among Young Leaders in France was to examine the effects of a soul care mentoring initiative on young adult French leaders to produce increased willingness to mentor others in soul care principles. The author recruited twenty-five participants. He used the Willingness to Mentor Measure (for quantitative data) and compared pre- and postintervention results in order to measure changes in willingness. In order to obtain qualitative data, he gave the participants a set of open-ended questions at the end of the intervention. He then searched their answers for indicators of God-confidence; self-confidence; a positive mentoring experience; a magnanimous vision; prioritization; enthusiasm; and, soul health. The author discovered all participants experienced a degree of increase in willingness to mentor others in soul care. Fourteen of the participants experienced a high level of increase. The researcher offered ministry recommendations.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleWith the rampant onslaught of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, concern from various sectors of South Africa has led to the disease receiving much publicity in more than one way. Despite the vast amount of exposure and availability of HIV/AIDS information, infection rates are still souring throughout communities. Therefore this study embarks on examining key individuals in communities that may be able to contribute to curtailing further infection rates. The study focuses specifically on 'examining the experiences and responses to HIV/AIDS, of religious leaders and traditional healers, in a modern community. The study acknowledges that these individuals are not only influential individuals, but are also educators in their respective communities and thus the study is situated within the education sector. The study is located in the qualitative paradigm because it seeks to achieve a deeper understanding of how religious leaders and traditional healers are positioned, how they interpret religious principles in relation to a disease that is primarily transmitted through sexual intercourse, and how they respond to, and deliberate about private issues such as sex and sexuality.

Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this quantitative study was to provide insight to the perspectives of leaders and individuals in authority within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles system of Catholic parochial schools regarding current models of governance, levels of authority, and decision-making processes. There is a lack of clearly-defined levels of decision-making authority from the bishops to the Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools down to the individual schools.
The pastors, principals, and Department of Catholic Schools personnel shared their perspectives of current governance structures and elements of three emerging alternative governance models. Data were analyzed through a factor analysis of the survey items to explore the strength of the three categories of the governance models represented by the three groups of questions. Next, the descriptive statistics of the specific questions relating to each of the three governance models and community voice were compiled. A Cronbach's alpha was calculated for each group of questions to measure internal consistency.
In order to explore relationships between perceptions among the three independent variable groups (pastors, principals, and Department of Catholic Schools personnel), a Chi-square analysis was run for each of the questions on an ordinal scale.
The study showed significant differences in participant responses between the three groups surveyed. However, there was agreement that community voice must be incorporated into governance, but only in a consultative manner. There was also agreement that a strong governing presence at the central office would be beneficial.

Thesis, Nyack College, Alliance Theological Seminary, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3707924.
Der volle Inhalt der QuelleThe purpose of this study is to analyze the sense of valuation that members of the younger Vietnamese generation receive from church leadership and the effect of this perception of valuation on the church’s retention of the younger generation. The motivation for this study arose out of an intergenerational conflict which has existed for some years between the first and second generations of Vietnamese church leaders and members. The researcher proposed that merging potential leaders of the younger Vietnamese generation into church leadership would increase retention of the younger generation in the Vietnamese churches. In order to test this hypothesis, a survey was created and filled out by three groups of second generation Vietnamese: Group A consisted of those who have remained in the Vietnamese Church; Group B included those who had once attended a Vietnamese Church, but have left and are now attending a non-Vietnamese Church; and Group C was comprised of those who once attended a Vietnamese Church, but now are not attending any church. Thus, the participant groups included one “retained” group and two “un-retained” groups. The seven-question survey was designed to evaluate seven possible issues related to retention, each touching in some way upon the Second Generation’s sense of valuation by the First Generation. The researcher tabulated and analyzed the differences in the responses between the three groups.
