The religiosity construction of the human body in Indonesian poemsThe body is an integral part of being human. It is physical as well as spiritual, not only natural but also supernatural. In this regards, proper treatment of the body may indicate the level of one’s religiosity. The purpose of this study was to find the religiosity of the human body in poems written by Indonesian poets. Adopting Küçükcan’s (2005) religiosity dimension framework, we examine the body's religiosity from the following dimensions: belief, practice, and spirituality. Our data were a collection of language units in lines and stanzas taken from poems written by Mashuri and Alek Subairi. They were analyzed using hermeneutic approach. The results show that within the dimension of belief reflected in the poems, the body is considered mortal and religious. Within the practical dimension, the body is used to fulfill economic necessity. It is also used as a means to meet God. Within the dimension of spirituality, the body channels God’s presence in various forms: love, caringness, and warmth. We conclude that these three religiosity dimensions support and complement each other.

Aspek religiositas yang universal itulah yang dijadikan inti pembahasan tulisan ini melalui kajian interteks dua karya EricEmmanuel Schmitt: Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran dan Oscar and the Lady in Pink. Abstract: The theme of religiosity is something that commonly appears in literature, given its proximity to the problems of philosophy. Being religious is essentially surrender to a greater power to achieve happiness which is private in nature. To speak about religiosity is not necessarily associated with any particular religion. But through the values that are taught in each religion, the values of humanity, that is universal love, compassion, and the mystery of life, will be reflected. It is the universal aspect of religiosity that will be the core of the discussion of this paper through intertextual study of two works of EricEmmanuel Schmitt: Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran and Oscar and the Lady in Pink. We modelled the effects of sociodemographic variables, anxiety, depressive symptoms, and religiosity measures, delusions on hallucinations severity and distress/impact in the past week, using structural equation modelling.ResultsDirect-effects models supported ENORG religiosity's protective role against experiencing distress or negative impact on daily function from hallucinations. Intrinsic religiosity had positive indirect-effects on hallucinations distress/impact through depression, anxiety, and through EORG but negative (suppression) indirect-effects on hallucinations distress/impact through ENORG. Younger and married from lower socio-economic class participants had comparatively more severe hallucinations and more distress from them.ConclusionWe present evidence of differential associations between the religiosity types, socioeconomic and cultural groups, and past week distress/impact of hallucinations. Our data support the importance of alignment between religious education and mental health and well-being education.

Abstract. Countries differ in their religiosity and these differences have been found to moderate numerous psychological effects. The burgeoning research in this area creates a demand for a country-level religiosity index that is comparable across a large number of countries. Here, we offer such an index, which covers 166 countries and rests on representative data from 1,619,300 participants of the Gallup World Poll. Moreover, we validate the novel index, use it to examine temporal change in worldwide religiosity over the last decade, and present a comprehensive analysis of country-level religiosity’s nomological network. The main results are as follows. First, the index was found to be a valid index of global religiosity. Second, country-level religiosity modestly increased between 2006 and 2011 and modestly decreased between 2011 and 2017 – demonstrating a curvilinear pattern. Finally, nomological network analysis revealed three things: it buttressed past evidence that religious countries are economically less developed; it clarified inconsistencies in the literature on the health status of inhabitants from religious countries, suggesting that their psychological and physical health tends to be particularly good once economic development is accounted for; and finally, it shed initial light on the associations between country-level religiosity and various psychological dimensions of culture (i.e., Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and country-level Big Five traits). These associations revealed that religious countries are primarily characterized by high levels of communion (i.e., collectivism and agreeableness). We are optimistic that the newly presented country-level religiosity index can satisfy the fast-growing demand for an accurate and comprehensive global religiosity index.

This study investigated the social dynamics that underlie the negative association between religiosity and cigarette use among U.S. adolescents. Using data from the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the authors used a theory-based conceptual model (vicarious learning networks [VLN]) to examine the role that key reference group norms play in the religiosity—smoking relationship. This relationship is partially mediated by parents’ and close friends’ perceived disapproval for smoking. However, religiosity maintains a strong negative association with smoking. Consistent with the VLN model, cigarette use varied substantively based on reference group normative configurations. To the extent that the protective effects of religiosity arise from its influence in structuring the social milieu, some of religiosity’s benefits could potentially be leveraged through interventions that promote healthy norms among reference groups within the social network. The VLN model may be a useful tool for conceptualizing the transmission of health behavior through social learning processes.

The current study compared two measures of religiosity and compared the relationship between religiosity and marital satisfaction. Religiosity was measured using two methods: monthly church attendance and The Shepherd Scale (Bassett et al., 1981). Participants consisted of at 158 married individuals selected from four Christian churches in Burlington County, New Jersey. Results confirm that a relationship exists between Christian religious beliefs and marital satisfaction: a person who has strong, conservative Christian beliefs also has high marital satisfaction. Results also show a correlation between a single-item subjective measure of marital satisfaction and the Marital Satisfaction Inventory-Revised Edition (Snyder, 1997). Beliefs and practices of the Christian faith did not better predict marital satisfaction than attendance at religious functions. Religious beliefs, religious behaviors, or number of times at church each month did not predict marital satisfaction when the Marital Satisfaction Inventory-Revised Edition (Snyder, 1997) was used to assess marital satisfaction but religious behavior predicted marital satisfaction when a single-item, subjective measure of marital satisfaction was used instead. A final finding revealed that personal prayer and time spent in joint prayer are able to predict marital satisfaction regardless of the method used to assess marital satisfaction.

This study examines single mothers compared to coupled mothers and the differences in their public and private practices of religiosity. Data come from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, 2007 U.S. Religious Landscape Survey. The study explores the influence of marital status between single and coupled mothers by using regression models to control for income, age, education, and race. Findings suggest that, while there are differences in single and coupled mothers in both their public and private practices of religiosity, the cause of these differences is being driven by other social factors rather than marital status alone. Income, age, education, and race account for most of the differences between single and coupled mother’s religious practices.

The study presented here uses data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health Wave I (Add Health) to examine the association between juvenile delinquency and religiosity. Juvenile delinquency is an area that has received increasing research interest over the last decade; however, much of this research has primarily focused on family, peers, and education as factors that may reduce delinquent involvement. While all of these are influential in the lives of youth, it is possible there are other factors as well. Religiosity has been shown to have influential effects throughout the life course; however, little research has focused specifically on the relationship between religiosity and juvenile delinquency and even less has centered on this relationship in terms of gender and race/ethnicity. The results of this study will contribute to the literature on juvenile delinquency by providing an in-depth look at the effects of religiosity in adolescence, gender and racial/ethnic trends, as well as possibly provide information valuable to prevention efforts.

An abundance of evidence supports that high stress levels often predict poor health, and high levels of religiosity, broadly defined, predict good health. It is possible that one mechanism by which religiosity positively impacts health is by preventing or reducing stress response. Studies measuring Surrender (Surrender to God from a Christian Religious Tradition) have shown that religiosity measured in this way is consistently negatively related to stress levels in college samples and community samples of pregnant women. The next step toward investigating a possible causal mechanism of religiosity on stress level is to experimentally manipulate religiosity. If it is found that it is possible to experimentally increase religiosity, the stage is then set to endeavor to change health and influences on health, such as stress, by such an increase. Specifically religiosity could be manipulated to determine whether changes in religiosity actually affect stress levels. Although this is the normal progression when investigating the efficacy of medical treatments, there has been significant opposition to the manipulation of religiosity. It is understandable that attempting to reduce religiosity would be unethical, but if there are potential health benefits to increasing religiosity, this field of research would seem to be worthy of investigation. The research community has been resistant to fund or even to approve such studies. Even more surprisingly, the medical community, while embracing the use of pharmacological substances to improve health or reduce disease (even for pregnant patients), remains reluctant to even investigate the efficacy of prescribed increases in religiosity, which would represent less physiological risk. Why is there this specific prejudice against religiosity as an intervention? Is it due to the lack of an observable mechanism? There are medications for which the true mechanism of effect is unclear, yet they are used because of the value of the effect. Is it because of the potentially reduced need for medical or pharmacologic intervention? Is it because it is poorly understood by many health care providers? If the ethics regarding human subjects research are embraced, a study should illustrate the potential benefits for both participants and others that outweighs any potential harm to the participants. It seems that on that basis, such experimental studies of the effects of increased religiosity on health should be considered.

Aim - This study aims to reveal the effect of religiosity and brand image on the behavioral intention with trust and satisfaction as mediating variables at the Larazeta halal restaurant. Design/Method/Approach - Data were collected through a questionnaire with a total sample of 100 customers of the Larazeta halal restaurant. The respondents were customers of the Larazeta halal restaurant who had visited the restaurant that has many branches in Indonesia at least once. The sampling technique used is convenience sampling. This study used a quantitative approach with the Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares Analysis. The exogenous variables in this study include religiosity and brand image, the mediating variables consisted of trust and satisfaction, while the endogenous variable was the behavioral intention. Results - The results indicate that the variables of religiosity and brand image had a significant effect on the behavioral intention, trust, and satisfaction variables of Larazeta halal restaurant customers. Practical Implications – This study provides an understanding of how religiosity, brand image, trust, and satisfaction can influence the behavioral intention of halal food consumers. Originality– There is a little research investigating the relationship between religiosity and marketing in Islam in Indonesia with unique demographic conditions. Research gaps are found in the previous studies, namely the broad scope of research so that they were not effective in explaining areas that have unique demographic characteristics. Therefore, for the first time, the present study aims to analyze specifically the relationship of religiosity and brand image on behavioral intention, with trust and satisfaction as mediating variables in discussing halal food as a healthy lifestyle in Indonesia. Keywords : Healthy Lifestyle, Religiosity, Brand Image, Trust, Satisfaction, Behavioral Intention, Halal Food
